DAY 7: THIS TOWN AIN’T BIG ENOUGH

(For @ygo5dsmonth2020. Yeehaw! Bring out your ponchos, set your guns to duel, and show us what all Satisfaction Town has to bring? Is it a character? The city itself? A duel? Satisfy us!)

I decided to give ya’ll some Kiryuu/Jack friendship, cause I imagine these two were very close. They definitely were in the manga, but it sort of shows through in the anime. With that said, a warning for this chapter: spoilers to season 2, especially revolving around the episodes of Crash Town. Otherwise, enjoy!

“So this was the graveyard you chose.”

Turning his head, Kiryuu regarded Jack as he stood on the cliffside beside him, staring down at the newly reformed Satisfaction Town, formerly known as Crash Town. The buildings were being updated now that the threat of working in an underground mine dispersed from the location.

Jack’s lips were held in a tight line, his violet irises glaring fiery at the town. He hadn’t been around when Kiryuu was on his war path of death, seeking a challenger that would end his misery. Who would have thought that his redemption needed to come from the very man he felt guilty for harming? Yusei had defeated him, sent him to the mines, and then followed after him to rescue him.

He didn’t deserve Yusei’s friendship.

“You’re an idiot.”

“I know.” Kiryuu smiled, looking at his knees from where he sat. He could hear Jack’s coat flapping around him as he stared out at the town. It had taken Yusei a lot to shake him out of his self-sacrificing mindset. Those antics had kept him from the brink of death.

“But you don’t have to worry about me anymore. I have purpose once again.” Kiryuu smiled, seeing two familiar little faces come out of one of the houses, their laughter dancing in the air. Nico and West, now under his care, made him feel more alive than he had even as leader of Team Satisfaction. They gave him a purpose: to guide them and help them grow. It was his fault that their father was gone, so now he took up that mantle to make sure they became well established adults. And they were already far better than he could have hoped for.

Kiryuu never thought he’d want to be a parent.

“Are you really satisfied? Living here? You won’t kill yourself again?” He could feel Jack’s gaze upon his shoulder. Blunt and to the point, just as Jack’s style. Asking if Kiryuu had any more suicidal tendencies. He couldn’t help but chuckle. When did he get such a good friend? And why didn’t he spend more time with him?

“I’m never satisfied. You know that.”

Jack laughed, loud and so full of mirth that Kiryuu had to look at him. When his fit ended, he grinned showing off his teeth in the setting sun. Those violet irises landed back on Kiryuu, electricity and fire swirling within them.

“Good. I’d have to beat some sense into you if you said otherwise.”

“With a duel?”

Jack chuckled. Kiryuu did as well.

“Are you subtly trying to challenge the king?”

“I heard Yusei was the new king. You were runner up.”

Kiryuu held back a laugh as Jack’s eyebrow twitched, his grin becoming a bit more agitated. His hands instantly went to his hips, those violet irises now holding a challenge.

“Grab your deck, Kyousuke. I’ll show you to mock me.”

He laughed, standing from the cliffside and following after the former king of Neo Domino City. Yes, his satisfaction could not be tamed. And yes, he found purpose once again through Nico and West. But here, challenging an old friend he thought would never forgive him, gave me one of the greatest satisfactions he could ever hope for.

The atmosphere in this episode was rather gloomy, much like how Kamen Rider Kabuto was presented back in 2006.

Tendou Souji used sun metaphor a lot. Woz literally became the sun.

Personally, I always thought that Kagami Arata was the true protagonist of Kamen Rider Kabuto. His use of Kabuto Zecter was unexpected, but perhaps, it was just a matter of time. Tendou held some respect toward Kagami. Kabuto Zecter was just a little bit more stubborn to admit it.

Tsukuyomi was surprisingly rather creepy as a child.

Shouichi’s personality was the same before and after he regained his memories. However, Sento and Takumi became two individuals inside one body. I wondered which route she was going to take.

The staircases on Tsukuyomi’s childhood house, I think I once saw it on Kamen Rider Ryuki, more precisely, in the flashback to Yui and Shirou’s childhood. I wondered if this deliberate.

Tsukasa still used professions gimmick to ‘blend’ in. I wondered, what kind of profession did he take when he was in Zi-O’s world?

The next episode, Sakurai Yuuto would make an appearance; will someone lampshade the same face he shared with Kiriya Kyousuke?

[notes: I’m working on the FORT info files now, so I’ve gone back and fixed some of the map descriptions, and I’ve determined that 如月学園高等科 is best translated as “Kisaragi Academy for Advanced Study”, so I’m going back now to fix that in the profiles. There’s still a distinction between advanced studies and schooling that doesn’t take you on to college, but it’s the more formal name of the entire school, not a division made within the school.]

And even if REG is a pun on its pronunciation, that doesn’t account for Arthur.... Maze??

Note after some trial and error if you’re doing this yourself: Use Tinke to ‘Open as...’ a Palette first. THEN open the same file as a Tile (set as 4bpp or 2bpp) and increase the height until you can see the whole thing. That gives you something much easier to interpret. Viewing as a Map will also give you a decent picture of the file, but again, view it as a Palette first. Also, this method is only working for me in the English version of the game.

DAY 25: DEAD GUY WALKING

(for @ygo5dsmonth2020​: Former Dark Signer, leader of Team Satisfaction/The Enforcers, and a brooding man looking for some satisfaction. Today’s day is all about Kalin Kessler/Kyosuke Kiryu!)

Due to the collide of AU-gust 2020 and this wonderful monthly challenge, today’s post will be a confessional style. The rest of my posts will either be confessional or mix into a chapter of the AU-gust 2020 fic I’m working on. Might as well kill two birds with one stone, eh? Work smarter, not harder ;)

Kiryuu is one of my favorite side characters of 5Ds, and I absolutely love his friendship with Jack and Yusei. In the anime, his friendship with Yusei is deep and bold, and I loved the arc where Kiryuu was known as the Grim Reaper. In the manga, I love how that deep and bold friendship was given to Jack instead. Both growing up in a facility to be Godwin’s guinea pigs, I loved that building of having friends and Jack only accepting Kiryuu as his.

With that being said, I often write Kiryuu as a good and close friend to both of these characters. And since I write a lot of Kingcrabshipping, often you could think of Kiryuu as their ‘best man.’ 

I love how Kiryuu is this dark and chaotic mess when we meet him in the Dark Signers Arc, and then becomes this dark, mysterious, and yet wise character later on. They are nearly polar opposites of each other, and I love that growth he went through. The latter version of Kiryuu is my favorite to write, and I’ll always have Kiryuu be the one who broods yet is the one who can save them all.

“Will you go home with me?” Kyousuke just smiled. Deep in his heart, he felt some happiness when the man he once has been loved asked that to him. “You asked that 5 years ago and I’ve said no. You know it yourself. This is my place, where there are people who need me. Why must I come back these many people need me?” Yuusei looked down to the tea-filled cup in his hands. As he thought, Kyousuke wouldn’t leave Satisfaction Town, the town where two sibling needed Kyousuke as their big brother, the town where there were people who wanted Kiryuu Kyousuke to lead them. Yuusei smiled a little–and of course Kyousuke knew it’s not sincere. Kyousuke knew everything about Yuusei. “I understand …. Sorry for asking stupid thing ….” “Nah, it’s okay. I know you didn’t have bad purpose by asking me to go back.” Yes, of course Kyousuke knew. Yuusei was his best friend and always be. Kyousuke smiled, then they laughed. Yes, it was right decision. Yuusei didn’t deserve a friend like him. Kyousuke couldn’t go back and ruin Satellite’s Shooting Star’s relation with his friends. Kyousuke was once their enemy and he understood he has done a big sin. Kyousuke has once loved Yuusei when they still big best friends and ruined his chance by gone crazy. Kyousuke knew he didn’t deserve chances anymore–the chance to become Yuusei’s best friend again … or just a chance to simply stay by Yuusei’s side …. After all, he knew that he didn’t deserve The World Saver just because he have saved one town in despair … even if he loved Yuusei … again ….

Kyousuke once loved Yuusei when they were still nothing–just parts of a powerful duel gang in one dumped town–and he loved Yuusei again when he himself has done may unforgivable sins and Yuusei has already had world’s attention on him. It’s obvious why Kyousuke wouldn’t fight for his love, right?

After all, World’s Savior deserved the best, right?
