#JackedKirby - The Boy Commandos meet Batman!!! 💥💥💥 Back in the early 40s Jack and his partner Joe Simon were making a name for themselves over at DC Comics. They had the Newsboy Legion and the Guardian, The Sandman and the Boy Commandos in full swing as the country inched closer to war... a war that Jack and Joe would both be fighting in a bit later on. 💥💥💥 The Boy Commandos were quite popular around this time, so the DC brass decided to put them into one of their lead books, Detective Comics. Detective Comics has become synonymous with Batman over the years... but originally it had more of an Anthology Style. So the powers that be enlisted Simon/Kirby to include a Boy Commando story.... and even gave them some cover space to strut their stuff!!! 💥💥💥 The cover image is credited to Kirby, Simon and Jerry Robinson. If I had to guess I’d say the Kirby/Simon drew the Boys and Robinson drew Bats for the sake of artistic continuity. Then the title placards and blurbs would be added. 💥💥💥 Inside the issue the Batman story (a great one called the “ The Cop who hated Batman) appeared first, with the Commando story (Nostradamus Predicts...) coming up second. I’ve also included the opening splash of the Commando’s story to show off Kirby/Simon’s pre WWII art style... Really love the way they did these war era stories, and the art is killer!!!
