This is why proper localization is important.
(For those who don't know, the PAL model SNES had the same multi-colored buttons as the Japanese Super Famicom, so when they slapped the US localization into the PAL version of Kirby Super Star - or Kirby's Fun Pak as it was called in PAL regions - it... well, it looks silly.)

My Thoughts On: Kirby Super Star Ultra
Why has this been sitting in my drafts for so long?
Hi there, its Alex! I love Kirby. Who doesn't? First you draw a circle, then you dot the eyes, dah dah-dah dah-dah-dah, and presto! It's Kirby! I purchased Kirby Super Star Ultra for the Nintendo DS a while ago and loved every second of it, so here I am to finally share my thoughts!
Kirby Super Star Ultra is a remake/port/expansion of the SNES game Kirby Super Star (or Kirby's Fun Pak in PAL regions, what?) and adds ton of new games and features! I won't go into deep detail for each of the games because this post would be longer than my wishlist, so I'll just hit some highlights and low-lights!
The DS controls feels absolutely amazing, like Kirby was made for it! The game progresses like the SNES original for a while, but pretty soon opens up all the new stuff! There's a bunch of bite-sized Kirby adventures, some mixing up the classic Kirby formula; a whole game played as Meta Knight (which is awesome!); and even two boss rush modes called The Arena!
About The Arena... The first one was also in the original game, a classic boss rush featuring all the bosses from Super Star. Cool and good. In Super Star Ultra, there's another one, The TRUE Arena, which features all the new bosses added in the remake! This is fine in theory, and actually is a lot of fun and a good challenge for most of it! But then you get to the end... SPOILERS: mentions the final boss of the Meta Knight segment of the game! The final boss of The TRUE Arena is Galacta Knight from Meta Knightmare Ultra. A necessary inclusion as a new boss, but Galacta Knight still manages to single-handedly ruin The TRUE Arena for me. That fight was not built for Kirby; it was built for Meta Knight, who has the ability to HEAL himself by using some of his charged move meter. Kirby... can't. This means the fight is not only at the end of a boss rush that's probably worn down your health and your copy abilities, it's also 10x more difficult for a ridiculous reason! It's not impossible, obviously, but it's definitely a detriment to the game as whole. Because of that, I have yet to beat The TRUE Arena and 100% the game. End spoilers!
All in all, it's a fantastic Kirby title, and great fun on your own or playing minigames with friends! It also allows you to play the first game, Spring Breeze, with a friend via Download Play! If you have a DS and enjoy Kirby, I cannot recommend this game more! There's plenty of different copies circulating on eBay, take your time and you can find a good one!
Thanks for reading, and be sure to ask questions and suggest new post ideas in my ask box! Stay safe, stay hydrated, and God bless! Happy gaming to ya!
~ Alex

while i do get why, it's so weird that Marx is seen as THE final boss of KSS(U), right?
like. yes, in a literal sense, he absolutely is. he's the final boss of the final "main" mode in KSS, Milky Way Wishes, and of the Arena(s). HOWEVER. in KSSU, you unlock Revenge of the King after beating Milky Way Wishes, and Meta Knightmare Ultra after beating that. if not for Marx Soul's existence, would Galacta Knight have taken over Marx's role as "the" final boss of KSSU?
but also, with the way KSS is structured, it feels wrong to say it has one final boss? at least to me. like... PAL regions were right to name it "Kirby's Fun Pak". it's very much a collection of smaller games- so why should Marx be considered more of a final boss than say, Dyna Blade? hell, Dedede is the final foe (or only foe, in Gourmet Race's case) more segments than Marx is, if we're concerned with the numbers.
then again, maybe i'm just thinking too hard about it. final bosses are meant to be final, after all.

"Buffins, winner of the title of 'cat with the most appealing expression' in 1958."
I really doubt that cat could win right now. It has the exact same expression as Galactic Nova and Star Dream from Kirby, and not very few people would have nightmares about them upon seeing this cat's face.

#4 Favorite Console Nintendo Game Boy
The Game Boy was the first video game console I ever had, but I might not remember it quite so fondly if not for Pokemon. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the Super Mario Land games, probably the most underrated of all Mario games, but most of the other games I had for the Game Boy were random games relatives bought me for Christmas. Tetris was ok, Kirby’s Dream Land was fun, and Contra: the Alien Wars was good, but it was Pokemon that did it for me.
It’s hard to really explain what it was like to be on the ground floor for Pokemania back in the day. At a time when you couldn’t just order shirts and hoodies online for your favorite nerd thing of choice, Pokemon permeated all things at all times. I actually completed my Gen 1 Pokedex without cheats or glitches because we didn’t know about them yet. Years later, I would return to Gens 1 and 2 when I started hosting Pokemon Stadium tournaments, which would actually flip my original opinions and make Gen 2 my favorite generation. Battling on Stadium 2 is still something that absolutely must happen whenever I visit a few of my oldest friends, Transfer Paks, GSC cartridges and all.
