one of those tropes/plotlines in paranormal shows i hate with all my heart is when there’s a succubus/incubus/lure-you-to-your-death-with-seduction type things and suddenly everyone is heterosexual. why aren’t any women going crazy for strangely compelling and overwhelmingly beautiful woman 🤨 where are my girls completely uninterested in the i guess sort of attractive man all these other girls are killing each other for 😐 and why aren’t any men on their hands and knees begging for him. i don’t get it

you asked for something hopeful or cathartic, so i am going to share some snips from the slightly angsty but mostly soft fic that i wrote after backreading the Murderbot has a Murdercat thread on discord. this wip was inspired by the excellent fic a hero to me by kiore ( @temporalreplicsimile ) and it's really not that far from being finished, but i stalled out on looking thru the books to find some quotes to tie the various snips i wrote into canon scenes.....i should go do that so i can post this!

these snips are scenes from ASR (starting immediately after the rogue discovery scene), but if Murderbot had a cat. because it deserves one.

A small, furry fauna streaked out of the corner and attacked my feet with its tiny claws. I was so relieved to see it that I didn’t even think before I bent down and lifted it off the floor. It shoved its head into the crook of my elbow and I had to pull my arms close to my body to keep from dropping it. It burrowed its face into my shirt and started to vibrate softly. I realized that all the humans were staring at me. Ratthi said, “Oh, is it yours?” I just stood there, trying frantically to think of a lie or an excuse that would explain why this small fauna had attached itself to me. Anything that wouldn’t lead to it being taken away. Arada said, “It came running out of the cubicle when we opened it, and wouldn’t come back. We weren’t sure how a cat got in with us, but if you brought it with you, that explains that.” Volescu said, “Is that…allowed? For SecUnits to have pets?” I tensed, and clutched the fauna a little closer to myself. Gurathin was frowning at the fauna in my arms. “It can’t possibly be allowed. It must have been hiding the cat, too. I suppose if it was rogue, it could have managed to sneak it in.” He put a little too much emphasis on the word rogue, and Mensah shot him a look. “SecUnit, I would like you to remain part of our group, at least until we get off this planet and back to a place of safety. At that point, we can discuss what you’d like to do. But I swear to you, I won’t tell the company, or anyone outside this room, anything about you or the broken module.” She considered the fauna, and added, “Or the cat.”

When we left for the rendezvous site, I left the fauna with the big hopper. I didn’t like it, but it wasn’t like bringing a fauna to a hostile negotiation was going to help anyone. It tried to follow me to the little hopper with Mensah. I picked it up and carried it back. “Stay here.” It knew to stay when I told it to stay. If it hadn’t figured that out quickly, it wouldn’t have lasted very long. It was a smart fauna. It tucked itself underneath one of the big hopper’s seats, almost out of sight, and stayed quiet. “Good fauna,” I told it. If everything went to shit, I hoped it would find a way to survive.

I was hovering on the edge of a system failure. I had flashes, off and on. The inside of the little hopper, my humans talking, something soft pushing against my hand. I felt the scrabble of tiny claws. It was my fauna. It was bumping my hand with its head and making tiny whimpering sounds. I didn’t want it to be scared, but my hand wouldn’t move to stroke it. Then being in the big hopper, as it was lifting up. I could tell from the drive noise, the flashes of the feed, that the pick-up transport was bringing it on board. The fauna licked my fingers. That meant the humans hadn’t left it behind.

the fremblem post you reblogged from me with Ike and Oliver is from Radiant Dawn, the second Tellius game (the first being Path of Radiance). Unfortunately Oliver is just Like That. He starts as a map boss for a chapter, but if you talk to him with a specific character he immediately joins your side to 'protect beauty'.

The character you talk to him with, Reyson, is actually a shapeshifter (called laguz in the games) that turns into a heron. He's one of 4 surviving herons, the rest were killed for reasons I won't get into here. What's important about this is that Oliver actually straight up bought Reyson from traffickers to keep as a prized beauty in the previous game, and it's a plot point in PoR. Reyson escaped and Oliver was supposedly killed, but and then he shows up in the second game and this can happen.

YASSSS, I love a longfic appreciation post! I see such mixed reviews about the entire 3rd POV/narration style and, I won’t lie, the significantly lesser degree of engagement it gets compared to the wider-used x reader style can be disheartening for a writer has actively spent months (nice try, Holly, years) world/lore building.

My fic is very much unfinished and ongoing, and will be for a while because 1. I’m very slow, and 2. It’s long.

If anyone is interested in checking out The Only Exception, it’s a story about a surgeon on Coruscant named June Kiore. After living the majority of her teenage/young adult years with the “I don’t need a man” attitude, she inexplicably falls in love with a teal-painted Captain named Howzer.

The story is tumultuous… euphoric at times and depressing at others, takes us through her journey of love and learning to accept it in all its many forms, and touches on some heavier topics that many of us carry around in our trauma backpacks 🎒

You’ll find lots of our clone wars favourites with a heavy emphasis on Howzer (obv), Kix, Jesse, Echo, and Fives, with a smattering of Rex, Tup, Cody, Keeli, and others.

There is also an entire Battalion of clone OC’s: the 742nd is the brigade that Howzer leads all the way up until his deployment to Ryloth, and they’re an… interesting bunch 😆

ooo please talk about the catching crows modern au shenanigans

So, this one is inspired by this post about annoying Lucanis with bad cooking videos.

I got thinking about Kiore having curated playlists of videos for when Lucanis is stressed out or otherwise annoyed (either because of Veilguard people sending him heinous cooking videos or Crow Business). And then I was struck by the idea of her having multiple playlists for him AND Illario.

So, one is for Lucanis when he's stressed and needs to decompress alone. One is for when Illario is there and hanging out with him. And another for the rare times it's just Illario that wants to veg out.

It's specifically in a room next to the kitchen, a kind of parlor/sitting room converted into a chill, cozy gaming and tv den. So that if Lucanis has downtime between checking on stuff in the kitchen, he has a comfy space to hang out in.

The main snippet I have right now is this one:

Illario and Lucanis are lounging on a sumptuous couch, practically spellbound by a video playing on the flat-screen on the wall. It's of a man (though only his hands are visible most of the time) building a beautiful, scenic aquaterrarium while soothing, barely there music plays behind the footage.  Illario is stretched out on one end of the couch, feet up on a leather ottoman. He's in all black today. Shirt unbuttoned to his sternum and sleeves rolled up to his elbows. His toes, snug in smooth black socks, twitch at times to some thought or other as he watches the man's hands work moistened clay and plant fiber into the shape of a miniature cliff face. Lucanis is half asleep on the other end of the couch, half-curled up, his head resting sideways on the back pillow. He's much more dressed down today in comfy athletic wear, his bare feet tucked partly underneath him.

Kiore is making snacks for them and checking on them at times, from the kitchen. She's talking to someone on the phone -- probably her cousin Nera, who is on her way back to the Villa after several weeks away. Kiore is pretty sure that Illario is as nicely dressed today as he his because he's anxious to see her again, though he'd never admit that to either Kiore or Lucanis. Not publicly, anyway.

Alrighty. I FINALLY got time to do this. I have at least three nonbinary Rooks. I say at least 'cause I made a bunch of Rooks and some aren't past the prologue and I can't remember if some of them are or aren't. I think I have at least one more.

My canon Rook is Kiore Aldwir. Kiore is actually more of a gender-apathetic agender person and uses both she/her and they/them pronouns. Mostly, they're ambivalent about that. So, when I write about Kiore, I kind of flipflop between pronouns on the regular. This is Kiore:

And then I went a little nuts on photomode in a particular area with firelight lighting so here are some of those, followed by regular screenshots:

I just really love their features. They're probably my favorite character I've made in a long while and they were the first one I landed on when Veilguard came out! No real tinkering after setting on them in the character creator.

My other nonbinary characters are identical twins, separated when they were very young.

One raised as Lucius Mercar, the other as Vitali de Riva.

In my "Rookery" timeline, where all the Rooks are present and participate in the story in some way, Lucius meets Vitali when they accompany Kiore to attend the meeting with the Talons that lead to recruiting Lucanis. They were both too young to really remember their family or the events that lead to their separation but it's very obvious that they are freakishly similar.

As for Vitali, they're visually basically the same, except their scars and tattoos are different. So showing Vitali would be nearly the same as Lucius. If I decide that Vitali has different hair or something later, I may share screenshots of them but I haven't done that yet. Also, I haven't played their playthrough yet so I only have character creator screenshots of them. XD
