@photobyjnp and I went for a hike on Saturday to shoot this incredibly awe-inspiring place. If you've never heard of the Kinzua Bridge Collapse, here's a little background on it. The Kinzua Bridge was a railroad trestle that spanned Kinzua Creek in McKean County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The bridge was 301 feet (92 m) tall and 2,052 feet (625 m) long. Most of its structure collapsed during a tornado in July 2003. The bridge was originally built from wrought iron in 1882 and was billed as the "Eighth Wonder of the World", holding the record as the tallest railroad bridge in the world for two years. In 1900, the bridge was dismantled and simultaneously rebuilt out of steel to allow it to accommodate heavier trains. It stayed in commercial service until 1959 and was sold to the Government of Pennsylvania in 1963, becoming the centerpiece of a state park. Restoration of the bridge began in 2002, but before it was finished, a tornado struck the bridge in 2003, causing a large portion of the bridge to collapse. Corroded anchor bolts holding the bridge to its foundations failed, contributing to the collapse. Before its collapse, the Kinzua Bridge was ranked as the fourth-tallest railway bridge in the United States.[3] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1982. The ruins of the Kinzua Bridge are in Kinzua Bridge State Park off U.S. Route 6 near the borough of Mount Jewett, Pennsylvania. 2020 Best Nursing Homes - Pennsylvania
ElderPerfect a leading publisher on senior healthcare across the United States, today announced the recipients of the Best Nursing Homes in Pennsylvania for 2020. These awards are designed to recognize providers based on their ability to consistently deliver excellence in the areas of Health Inspections, Quality of Residence Care, Penalties and Staffing. We’ve evaluated over 695 facilities, of which 153 (22%) met our top rating. This report marks the Gold Standard in terms of care for seniors. 0 Ranked Best Facilities 5/5
US Standard vs. Best Facilities
Average Number of Beds: 106 vs 95 Average Occupancy: 81% vs 83% Average Health Inspection Rating: 2.82 / 5.00 vs. 3.90 / 5.00 Average Government Rating: 3.01 / 5.00 vs. 4.49 / 5.00
Rating Methodology
Health Inspections Every year, the government assigns inspectors to conduct a formal review of nursing homes for regulatory purposes to meet the mandates outlined for Medicare and Medicaid, this aims to measure and improve the safety of residents across providers. Facilities may also be inspected when complaints are submitted or based on a reported incident. When noncompliance is identified, the facility is served a citation that indicates which regulation that was identified, along with the severity of the incident. Nursing homes are subsequently required to execute a program of resolution in order to meet compliance. Some scenarios require enforcement actions to be applied, such as a civil monetary penalty or withholding of payment(s), to incentivize resolution in a timely manner. Penalties Facilities are applied 2 types of penalties due to non-compliance / accumulation of incidents. Civil penalties are monetary fines that may be applied to a facility based on citations / infractions identified during a review. The severity of a penalty is defined primarily by the size and frequency of the infraction. Quality of Residence Care There are 3 types of resident care ratings, but for this exercise, we primarily focused on the overall quality measure rating. The quality measures (QMs) include 17 data points that are derived from clinical information reported by the respective nursing home and also from Medicare claims data submitted for payment. Ratings are calculated for the QM domain using the 4 most recent quarters for which data are available. A nursing home receives points contingent on performance on each measure (weighting distribution is not equal). Staffing Staffing research is submitted regularly by the facility and is adjusted for the requirement of the facilities residents. For each of registered nurse staff and total staffing, a 1 - 5 rating is applied according to definitions established for each category. These ratings are subsequently combined to assign an overall staffing rating. As an example, to get an overall staffing rating of 5 stars, nursing homes must earn a rating of 5 stars for both registered nurses and total staffing. Nursing homes could also be assigned a 1 star rating should they not have a registered nurse on-site daily, and do not submit staffing data, or which the data cannot be verified.

$30M Oregon Ranch With 40,000 Acres Is the Week’s Most Expensive New Listing
realtor.com
In need of some space? The historic Kinzua Ranch in Fossil, OR, just landed on the market for $30 million, making the 40,000-acre spread the week’s most expensive new listing on realtor.com®.
Vast and varied, the landscape features a ponderosa pine forest and extensive grazing lands. The abundant wildlife includes elk, deer, bear, quail, and wild turkey. Water sources on the vast tract include reservoirs, creeks, streams, and ponds.
The history of the picturesque property dates to the 1800s, when “the whole area was a fur-trading zone,” says listing agent Jacob Polvi. “The settlers moved in, and it became a logging area.”
In 1909, E.D. Wetmore came to the area and bought up tracts of land, naming them Kinzua, after a river in his home state of Pennsylvania.
In 1928, Kinzua became the site of the Kinzua Pine Mills Co., and the hub of Wetmore’s lumber business. A brisk industry led to a housing need for the growing number of workers. The “company town” grew to 125 homes, and added a post office, library, grocery, and nearby golf club (which still exists).
At the height of activity, the town housed 700 people. Eventually, the company changed hands, and the company town, one of Oregon’s last, shut down.
“The old mill site was on the ranch. It’s all been demolished,” Polvi says. In the place of the ghost town, 400,000 ponderosa pines were planted in 1982.
The site has since changed hands a few times, Polvi notes. The current owner is a “big cattle rancher” who purchased the place as an investment, and runs some 700 cows and 30 bulls on the land.

The land is rich with opportunity, for both timber and cattle, and “it’s probably one of the best spots for hunting in Oregon,” says Polvi.
This swath of eastern Oregon is also a recreational paradise. Winter sports include snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Warmer weather allows for horseback riding, four-wheeling, bike riding, and hiking.
And the acreage isn’t all trees and woods. It includes a hunting cabin, corrals, a couple of old trapper cabins, and cowboy camps. Plus, there’s a fire lookout tower, which could make a heck of a guest cabin with glorious views. The property also boasts perimeter and interior fencing and gates, with multiple entrances to the ranch.
Although set apart and secluded, the location is accessed by State Highway 19, and is just down the road from the town of Fossil. The getaway is just 1.5 hours from Bend, OR.
For someone who desires a family compound, there’s plenty of room to build a home or 10.
As investment income, the land could continue to be offered for cattle grazing. While the actual cows don’t come with the purchase, all the facilities for the cattle are included, Polvi notes. And, the scenic site has already been a filming location.
“For a real high net worth individual, it’s the ideal property,” Polvi says. He envisions “someone who wants to own their own recreational retreat and make it better.”

Relection can mean something as simple as seeing ones image reflected by a pool of water. Yet it can also be interpereted to mean a process of introspection. To unite ones physical refection with with ones internal reflection can be daunting. But it is a pastime in which i tend to indulge. Attempting to see my thoughts and feelings through my own eyes, training to see others through theirs. Reflection is a mystical thing.

License Fees – 2019 licenses and permits are valid December 1, 2018 through December 31, 2019 (except 1, 3 and 7-day licenses) and are available beginning Dec. 1, 2018 at issuing agents statewide and online through the The Outdoor Shop.
Multi-Year Licenses – 3-Year, 5-Year and 10-Year licenses. Visit The Outdoor Shop to purchase. Convenience—Savings—Rewards with each purchase.

2017 was a great year…
Looking back through my photos and sorting by dates I was trying to locate my actual favorite fish from 2017. I really couldn’t narrow it down to just one trip in particular and that is something to be thankful for. Each trip I get out, I really enjoy being on the water chasing fish no matter the type.
Looking back earlier in season I was doing a lot of fly fishing in WV to start the year until it was time for me to Yak. I invested into a depth finder on my yak thinking that would change the game for me. It did but I didn’t get to spend the time Yak fishing like I wanted to. I ended up getting back into the streams and river wader fishing a bunch. I finished the year off strong with a great trip to Erie before the deep freeze set in.
Looking a head to 2018 I hope to do more fly fishing, Musky Fishing and Yak fishing. The way this weather has been recently it looks like I will be doing some ice fishing which is something I don’t typically do. The weather hasn’t been good for it in PA and I usually find open water for trout. Sub Zero temps might change that…
Big trips are in the plans now. Kinzua Castle, Allegheny River Floats (long weekend cabin rental), OBX, Penns Creek Fly fishing week trip and so much more..
Here’s to 2017 but already looking forward to 2018 fish.
Rye
Peace Out 2017 - Looking back #fishPA 2017 was a great year... Looking back through my photos and sorting by dates I was trying to locate my actual favorite fish from 2017.
