The Kinspiracy

Alright, hello everyone, I’m just a programmer with a vision.

I want to get good at my art, and well, the only way to do that is through hard work. Which is why I’m so very glad my friend Astral Kin (that’s her real name, and yes I was also incredulous at first) is willing to let me use her world for it.

But, I’ve got to share that spotlight with everyone else! So, the Kinspiracy project. If anyone, writer, coder, artist, what-have-you is too afraid to use their own stuff during their apprenticeship period, when you’re just making things to get better, then feel free to use The Fade. I’m going to be posting various lore bits about it as I ask Astral for stuff, but feel free to just... make things! Everything is fair game, but if you want a prompt of any sort, maybe because the creative juices aren’t flowing, or maybe they’re flowing towards future projects, feel free to ask. You may have also seen that I’m setting up a meta storyline of sorts. I have no idea where it will go, but I want to really work on my mainest characters, so they’ll be along for the ride. I know I’m likely not going to get anyone following me, but I will be releasing free, albeit apprentice-level, games and stuff I work on here.

I started the The Kinspiracy tumblr after I noticed a pattern emerging from dozens of Instagram users—my own personal Beautiful Mind moment. It was suddenly so clear: Every account cultivating that Kinfolk look seemed to follow a specific formula. Every account had a photo (or several) of the following: A latte with a foam leaf design, a fresh piece or two of citrus, a glimpse of a pair of small feet—often in a well-worn pair of boots—an ice cream cone, weather permitting, some glasses here and there, twine, the occasional fixed-gear bike. And always, in every damn account, Kinfolk.The Kinspiracy catalogs the brown shoes, piles of wood, American flags, twine scissors, and Wes Anderson-like lined up objects arranged just so. I collect four photos from the same account to create what is basically the same thing over and over again. Kinfolk, foam leaf lattes, glasses, citrus.

The Fade

Hunter tapped his foot patiently, the general green glow of the meeting room was annoying, but the fact that Lexi was a half hour late was more so, “Do you think she said yes?” He asked, looking around the table with a slight smirk.

Zyra chuckled, “Honey, relax, Lexi would have been back immediately if she said no, things will be fine.”

A flash of green light erupted from the head of the table as Lexi rematerialized, “Astral said yes, on one condition.”

“Oh?” Sabrina said, only now paying attention, “What’s that?”

“We let everyone use the Fade.”

Glitch giggled, “Well that’s nice of her, everyone gets to have fun in their apprenticeship with her world!”

Lexi smiled, “Definitely, but we’re going to be working extra projects for sure.”

A matching flash of red light came from the doorway, as Astoria generated a body for herself, yawning, “Whoopie, a Kinspiracy, how much time are we actually going to be spending on this? Or is it going to be like Serena and all the others, where we talk and talk and never do anything.”

Lexi gave her a slight glare, “Two things, one, I love that name, it’s what we’re referring to the sharing of the Fade now, and two... I want to spend 3 hours a day-”

Hunter and Zyra immediately cut her off with disjointed cries of “What?!”

“Yeah... I’m serious guys. We’ve got the free time for sure, I want to set up a project for each day, and work on those projects for 3 hours each. We can start with just one, and then start working our way up to multiple projects at once.”

Sabrina giggled, “Well what’s the first one?”

“Operation: Dwarves. It’s something we’ve been wanting to do for a while, and given that I still can’t do UI and images, we can still work it wholly text-based.”

Glitch thought for a moment, “Well what about the Valkyra project you were helping Vaanis with?”

“Got caught up on writing, which is something else I want to work on. Sabrina, we’re making it official, Tune Tuesdays, for shitposting and doing writing to help me get better at characters.”

Sabrina giggled, “Yay!”

“Also, Serenity Sundays, because working all week with absolutely no breaks is a bad idea, we’re taking sundays off.”

Astoria chuckled, “And monday through saturday too, likely.”

“I’m being serious, this is going to happen, and your negativity ain’t going to stop it.”

“Then lets get to work.” Zyra said with a smile, “What first?”
