Kino’s journey | Kino no tabi (2003)

There’s no mind-blowing action or super detailed art/backgrounds, but to me personally it’s one of the most iconic animes ever. I just love non-linear storytelling. This show makes me feel peaceful, ruminative and.. Anxious? We get plenty of mysteries, plot twists and outright fucked up situations and characters. At some point I got so tense that I constantly expected shit to go south. But it’s absolutely not so bad and I should’ve relaxed. :P It’s a good show that makes you think and reflect.

I saw your nb kino no tabi icons and they're So cool. Can you tell me what kino no tabi is about? And/or where to watch it? Bc you made it look really cool, even if the character isnt actually canonically nb

of course, anon! kino no tabi (kinos journey) is about kino going out and exploring different parts of the world. kino and hermes (their bike :] he talks hes kinda funny. he reminds me a bit of alphonse elric from fma) are the main characters, and the whole anime’s kind of. more based on world building? i dont know how to describe it on a way that gives it justice, but it’s really worth the watch. you can find both the 2009 and 2017 versions on gogoanime (where i watched it) but i heavily recommend the 2009 version over the 2017 version. theres also light novels that you may be able to find online, but i haven’t read them myself. 

kino being canonically nonbinary is heavily debatable, but they’re heavily gender non conforming at the very least. they’re referred to by he/she/they canonically, and they’re called both masculine and feminine terms throughout the show. they were born female but they dont like being called a boy or a girl (there’s one specific episode where they openly reject being called a girl and a boy) so in the 2009 adaptation at the very least i would consider them to be nonbinary canonically.

the 2017 anime sadly does not handle them the same and stresses them being assigned female at birth which made it really hard for me to watch personally.
