Vans Launches New Vans Pro Skate ArcAd by Collaborating with Quasi Skateboards

The world's most popular skateboarding brand is launching a new, very limited selection of Pro Skate footwear they have dubbed the Vans Pro Skate ArcAd line. For the first release, Vans teamed up with Quasi Skateboards and chose the much-favored by skaters Gilbert Crockett Pro 2. Here's what Vans has to say about the whole deal:

via Vans: Representing the pinnacle offering from the Vans Pro Skate collection, Vans introduces ArcAd, a select, limited-distribution Pro Skate classification created to elevate skateboarding performance standards while preserving Vans’ commitment to the upper echelon of core skate shops around the world.

For its inaugural season, Vans Pro Skate ArcAd presents a special-edition of the Gilbert Crockett Pro 2 in partnership with Quasi Skateboards. Available only to select core skate accounts worldwide and in exceptionally limited quantities, the Gilbert Crockett Pro 2 ArcAd is built on the comfort and cushioning of the Vans’ Ultracush HD insole, cradled by the durability and support of Vans’ revolutionary Wafflecup outsole.

Gilbert’s signature pro model has been simplified into a custom one-piece woven jacquard based on Quasi’s boom pattern, and re-engineered with translucent Rapidweld layers to provide lightweight reinforcement and proven skate durability in the places you need it. The Gilbert Crockett Pro 2 ArcAd is also accompanied by a Slip-On Lite, complete with a custom labeled satin-lined cinch backpack/tote bag, and a unique double drawer box.

That's quite the mouthful, but it sounds like this may be a quasi-resurrection of the Syndicate line. For those who don't remember, the Syndicate line was an interior off-shoot of the Pro Skate brand at Vans. It was run by a small, core group of of people who pushed for collaborations that would never have happened otherwise. Either way, these are packed with tech and are definitely geared towards skaters. 

The Vans Pro Skate ArcAd x Quasi Skateboards Gilbert Crockett Pro 2 ArcAd and Slip On Lite Package will release in very limited numbers at 16 shops globally. Vans Pro Skate ArcAd UltraRange Pro

Vans is really pulling off one heck of a campaign for the release of the new UltraRange line. They have begun an all-out, full frontal assault. We spoke about the Vault campaign (more to come on that soon) the other day, but now we get details on an even more limited version. This is only the second ArcAd pack and it looks like the Pro Skate line is continuing the tech-heavy trend we saw in the first collection.

So, what's our take? I was very skeptical of the new model when it was first announced. After talking to some people who have been wear-testing pairs for a couple weeks, it seems like they have nothing but praise for the UltraRange. It's definitely not your normal Vans silo. And this ArcAd pair is more reminiscent of the tech-heavy skate models that companies like DC, ES, and Etnies put out in the 2000's, but that might not be a bad thing. Vans has tapped into a new market and we are interested in seeing where this takes them.

The Vans Pro Skate ArcAd UltraRange Pro will be available at 40 select Vans Pro Skate retailers around the world this Saturday, May 20th. Each pair is individually numbered out of 600, so this one is even more limited that the first ArcAd. These are likely to be in-store only initially, but check the shop list below to determine how each will be handling the release.
