Vans Skate x Thrasher

You would be hard pressed to find a more ubiquitous brand than Thrasher these days. It seems like everybody from elementary schoolers to sorority girls are wearing the classic flame logo. It's gotten to the point that even Thrasher has made knockoff Tharsher tees. Getting back to skate roots (not that they have strayed), the 36 year old brand has teamed up with Vans Skate to produce a fiery collection.

The footwear collection consists of five pairs all in Pro silos: two Slip Ons, the new UltraRange, and two Sk8 His. Each will feature auede and canvas uppers with the UltraRange and one of the Sk8 His sporting black and gum outsoles. The classic flame branding adorns a Slip On and Sk8 Hi while the other Slip On boasts a checkered ankle collar and rubber baphomet logo stitched onto the vamp tongue. 

The apparel also hits hard with good use of the flames logo. I am a big fan of meshing of the classic Vans turtle logo with the flames. There is almost too much to list here, so be sure you check out the album to get a full idea of what's coming our way this weekend. 

the Vans Skate x Thrasher collection will release this Saturday, July 29th, at select Vans Skate stockists like Kinetic. Select pieces from the collection will also be available at Vans.com. Prices range from $39 to $169.

NO CHANCE FOR THE BAD WEATHER

_en We've reviewed quite a few sneakers suitable for this cold and wet weather over time, but the Vans x Gore-Tex collection is special nevertheless as it includes various iconic silhouettes.

Apart from the classic stuff, there is some newness included in the pack – two pairs of Vans Ultrarange sneakers. One comes in a decent black and white colorway with red and yellow details, the other (and arguably more outstanding one) sports the combination of indigo blue and white with yellow panels. For the ‘classic’ lovers, there are also Old Skools in indigo/red and a Sk8-Hi with a super nice forest green side panel that really distinguishes the sneaker. On every pair, you can also find a Gore-Tex signature texture which makes the branding clearly visible from the outside and indicates its abilities.

However, the best thing for me are the small design changes on all the silhouettes which make them look more rugged and outdoor-friendly. If you look closer, there are elements on both toes and heels of all the shoes that make them more durable and damage resistant, so that they can protect your feet in any terrain. The only thing missing for me personally is the reversed waffle sole which is traditionally used for Vans MTE shoes (Old Skool and Sk8-Hi). On the Ultrarange models however, this is not a problem. This way it remains a perfect fall/winter city shoe suitable for almost any weather conditions.

If you’re still looking for something with real water resistance and like these, don't hesitate because you probably won’t be able to get proper Gore-Tex sneakers anywhere near this price point. The full collection is still available at Footshop.

_cz Už jsme psali o řadě tenisek vhodných pro tohle mokré a studené počasí, ale kolekce Vans x Gore-Tex je i tak speciální, jelikož obsahuje několik ikonických siluet.

Kromě klasických věcí obsahuje tato řada také něco nového – dva páry Vans Ultrarange. Jeden přichází v nenápadném černobílém provedení s červenými a žlutými detaily. Ten druhý, výraznější, používá kombinaci indigo modré a bílé se žlutými panely. Pro milovníky klasiky jsou tu pak Old Skools v kombinaci indigo modré a červené nebo krásná verze Sk8-Hi se zeleným panelem, díky kterému naprosto vyniká. Na každém páru také najdete ikonický Gore-Tex materiál, který jednak dává najevo, kdo se na výrobě těchto tenisek podílel, ale také odhaluje jejich schopnosti.

Pro mě osobně jsou nejlepším detailem ty malé designové změny na všech siluetách, které jim dodávají drsný outdoor-friendly vzhled. Pokud se podíváte blíže, na špičkách i na patách najdete elementy, díky kterým jsou boty mnohem odolnější. Nebude pro ně tedy problém chránit vaše nohy v jakémkoliv terénu. Jediná věc, která mi osobně chybí, je obrácená waffle podrážka, která tradičně bývá na Vand MTE botách (Old Skool a Sk8-Hi). Na modelech Ultrarange toto ale není problém. To všechno z nich dělá ideální boty do podzimního/zimního města, které vydrží téměř jakékoliv počasí a podmínky.

Pokud stále hledáte něco skutečně voděodolného a tyhle vám padly do oka, moc neváhejte, protože nejspíš neseženete pořádné Gore-Tex boty za podobně nízkou cenu. Celá kolekce je ještě dostupná ve Footshopu.

For my part, Vans is really pushing the envelope when it comes to design here. The Vault iterations of the UltraRange were hits with some but the ArcAd editions have sold out in most shops. I was just talking with an employee who had a pair of these and he really likes them. It's worth noting that this seems to be the sentiment of everyone we have spoken to who has a pair so far. Sure, the silo isn't one of the classic ones we are used to, but sometimes change is good, especially if it brings more tech and protection to skaters. We suggest giving them a try.
