GO MAKE AN AWARD RECOMMENDATION.
This is your reminder that their Majesties (current and future) rely on the eyes and voices of the populace to recognize the exceptional members of your Kingdom. They cannot see every act of service or skill, and they need your help to ensure that those who shine brightly are celebrated.
Do you know someone who deserves recognition? Whether it’s for service, arts, combat prowess, simply being a lovely person who makes events or activities that much better, or any other outstanding contribution, please take a moment to submit your award recommendations.
Don't be afraid to recommend yourself. You are allowed to be proud of your own contributions and request that you be recognized for them. If you are hesitant to do it, then ask someone in your Kingdom to do it for you. Everyone should be appreciated for their contribution of living the dream, because without each of you there isn't one.
And for those who don't feel the need for awards or even like they don't deserve one - then please accept my sincere gratitude for being who you are and being that person well. You're awesome, and I appreciate you.
Sincerely, Your SCA Mom (or Aunt)

Painted boxes I made as a gift for the Baron and Baroness of Oldenfeld in Trimaris at their stepping down court. I also made a box for the barony but didn't snap a shot of it finished. If you're interested in getting a box with your heraldry painted on it, let me know! I'd be happy to work something out with you! (:

Gulf Wars XXVI Recap
Long text post, again still working on photos to post later.
Sunday:  Went shopping and got some Persian coats. Ran into @gotyourtowel and his Knight and had a good time bumming around merchants row.
Monday: Rainy, cold and about to get colder. Spent some time drawing heraldry at Herald’s point and chilling with my herald buddies. Bought a fantastic hat from the Amber Lady that definitely saved me from freezing this war. Had some extremely disagreeable venison chili with my campmates that nearly ruined my night but managed to be able to enjoy the company of my new Lochac friends including a bardic circle.  Tuesday:  Opening ceremonies and procession! Watched the Kingdom declare alliances and ultimately war between Ansteorra and Trimaris. Worked more with the heralds too. Went to see what was what at Al Mahala that night and was surprised to find Wolgemut had showed up! Very fun show. Then I proceeded to be awkward on the way back to my camp and wanted to bury myself in six feet of dirt from my social ineptitude. It turned out to be outrageously cold that night and I didn’t have a tent heater, just blankets and my body fat. Wednesday: More heraldry. Watched the chivalric roses tournament in the afternoon, relishing the bit of warmth we had before it got cold again in the evening. Had some considerably less disagreeable chili at Ansteorra chili night. Still frustrated with myself for my awkwardness, I watched the War Bard competition, which was fun. Tried to enjoy midnight madness at merchants but it was cold, I was in a lot of pain, and I was still kicking myself for being dumb the previous night. I skulked back to camp and just, decompressed. Tearfully so. Amazing what happens when you’re tired and entering an emotional spiral. After a sobbing catharsis over 6 months of unresolved emotions from lots of crap that happened. I felt so much better after. It was still horrifically cold.
Thursday: Ate Gode Bakery croissants, devoured three of them and felt a million times better. Then watched Ravine battle! It was insane as it usually is. Hung out with the Lochac duchess and took photos. Did some more volunteering with heralds before Ansteorran court. Court took two hours. We had a Pelican made and two Laurels elevated. Watched (or tried to) Don Mateo play at the Green Dragon. People were extremely rude and talked over his playing. They even managed to do the same to Wolgemut which is a feat. I was very grumpy about it but still managed to enjoy the show. The night was thankfully a little less cold.  Friday:  The week has caught up with me and I’m completely exhausted and starting to feel sick. Bought some amazing local honey from a merchant and settled into a day of heraldry. Watched the tail end of a squire’s tournament before returning to camp for dinner. I was determined to participate in a bardic circle after all the music I’d enjoyed all week. I sang Chris Thile’s melody to the Robert Burns poem, Sweet Afton. A Laurel from Northshield was so impressed, she gave me a token to reward and encourage me to do more bardic. Honestly, I think I will just because that was incredible. On the way back to camp, I saw a meteor streak through Corvus. A complete and utter coincidence that punctuated my entire war experience: Magical.  Saturday:  Said goodbyes to camp. Said goodbyes to my Lochac friends. Felt like complete burning garbage as the cold I fought to stave off all week took me. Stayed in a hotel to get off the road, as planned.  And now I’m home. I’m still really sick and am going to take a day off tomorrow to recover. Overall, amazing war and I now have new goals, new friends and hope for the future.

Damn it. I had smelled whiffs of that "history supports my smug yet cowardly prick attitudes and never mind the clear visual and textual evidence otherwise" crap, but been insulated from it because the core of my old Shire was (still is) 50 percent Definitely Not White. And the Fannish Fallacies are built right into the SCA because it was supposed to be a refuge from bullies and pricks...Damn.
Yeah. It’s an issue.
With that said, I have played in other kingdoms as well. Trimaris is... uh... a special case (to put it as PC as possible). From the first moment I stepped up to a fighter practice, I was made to feel an outsider. No matter what any previous kingdom thought, nothing was ever enough to “make it” here.
The other kingdoms I played in were not nearly as bad with racism, either. It has been some 10 years or so, and I’m sure things have changed, but there was a fair sized faction of people who played Middle Eastern personas, people who were not white, etc. and they were all treated with the respect they individually deserved. (Which is to say - some more than others, depending on individual behavior.)

Hobbies--and a recipe!
Hobbies–and a recipe!
I have a lot of different hobbies. I like to crochet, cook, bake, color, participate in the SCA in the kingdom of Trimaris (aka the one I’m very far from right now), read, write…I do a lot of things. I’ve also made soaps and candles, used fimo clay to make beads and jewelry, made jewelry with semiprecious stones, and done something called kumihimo, which is Japanese braiding. In short, I’ve got…

This is the latest scroll I worked on, and I think the best I've worked on so far. Who says a non armgerious award can't be all out? Based on the Winchester Bible.
Calligraphy by me, Illumination by mouzas.
