Thinking about what level of misogyny existed in Lucis, from ancient times to modern, because it has to on some level.
Where The Rogue is listed in the Bestiary, it is directly stated:
“Having lost her father and older brother to daemons, the Rogue was left with no family and no choice but to ascend the throne and rule in their stead. At the time, however, the thought of a woman ruling the kingdom was preposterous to some”.
Predominantly, this indicates that Lucis was a patriarchal society, at least prior to Crepera’s reign (she may have changed laws from the firstborn male to the first born child as a whole, and we have no way of knowing how well the upper echelons of Lucian society took that at the time).
(In contrast, Tenebrae is very much a matriarchal society in my head, considering the lauded position of Oracle to the Gods, and that the three canon oracles we know of are female).
That…also makes me wonder about the different levels of education pertaining to one’s gender in Lucis, even an unknown number of decades/centuries down the line.

I got thinking. I don’t believe I ever told people about my headcanons concerning the inheritance for the Lucian throne, right? So I’m gonna ramble about it for a bit now.
It’s actually pretty straight forward: the Crystal decides who the next King is going to be. Which means the throne won’t automatically go to the eldest son. Which has the consequence of ever child being needed to be taught how to rule.
In my worldbuilding the Crystal is the last living piece of the Goddess Eos, so it is her who decides who her guardian is going to be, so to speak. The Crystal does not care about gender or in which order the prospective heirs were born.
Do when the King dies, everyone who is in direct blood relation to them, gatheres in front of the Crystal and it chooses one of them. (Or not)
It does not need to have the one it chooses present in front of it. Which can be very awkward, when a hidden child born out of wedlock gets chosen. Which has happened before.
Bahamut interfered into the process 14 times, to bind the 13 Lucii he needed to the prophecy. Since the Crystal is only a piece of Eos, it was not strong enough to stop him.

hello! a request! i’m curious as to how the bros would find someone they don’t know that may(but not) pose a threat to Citadel/Insomnia, like would they keep them in captivity to know their true motives, or do they execute immediately? Maybe set pre-ffxv, where things are much more calmer than the war. Thanks!
Hi Anon, thanks for the ask!
It’s time for my favorite thing–needless world-building!
What the Chocobros would do pre-game really doesn’t matter–not a single one of them has any authority to do anything, not even Noctis–and in wartime*, the fate of a possible traitor or endangerment to the country lies in the hands of the Crownsguard. Regis, of course, can yay or nay any of their actions as king.
As for the Crownsguard, I don’t think they’re too quick to pull the trigger on an execution. Potential threats are stripped, searched, given technological signal jammers and magical nullifiers, and then sent to interrogation. This isn’t to say that interrogation is calm…consider some of the tactics Ignis employs/suggests when bases are stormed in FFXV.
Anything broken can be magically healed afterwards, after all.
That all said, I think that if treason or something like an assassination plot is proven, the person would be put to death by the king or his Shield or Hand.
*Even pre-game, it’s wartime–Lucis has been involved in this war for 30+ years, it’s just been defensive since the Wall was put up. Immediately before the events of Kingsglaive, it’s a losing defensive war, with the only “safe” area being Insomnia and presumably the 30-50 mile stretch outside it…which really says things about the sheer might of the Empire’s forces. It’s rather hard to win a defensive war when you’re not the defender (see: American Revolution).
Something you want to see? Asks are open!
