Another funny way to deviate from history in My Lady Jane is if Phillip not only is secretly Ethian but also the arm he sent her was of a normal Verity. It's not like they can tell the difference :P

The Troublesome Irish Refugees in Spain
This is the story of the troublesome Irish Refugees in Spain. Immigration and refugees are two interlinked concepts that seem unmistakably modern. Continue reading The Troublesome Irish Refugees in Spain

House of the Dragon's Historical Inspiration ╰─▸ The Portuguese Succession Crisis (1580) occurred after King Sebastian I of Portugal died in the Battle Alcácer Quibir in 1578 at the age of 24. Sebastian was unmarried with no heirs, so his great-uncle, Henry, who was the brother of the former King John III was appointed as King. Henry I was an Archbishop and already 66 years when he was coronated so the search for an heir began soon after he was crowned. Henry favored his niece, Duchess Catarina, as his successor. However, Portugal had never had a female ruler and her husband who would likely have to be named as her co-ruler was unliked by the public. Instead Catarina's cousin, Phillip II of Spain, used his military power to successfully manuever his way to the throne when Henry II died in 1580. His ascension to the throne united Spain and Portugal until the Restoration of Portugal in 1640 when Catarina's grandson, John IV, wrestled power away from Margaret of Savoy, Phillip II's grandaughter and created the line of the House of Braganza which lasted until 1910.

Hellooo I was wondering if we can get Nathan drake SFW and NSFW headcanons?
A/n: Thanks for the request! I'm sorry it took so long but I hope you enjoy it! Alo, this is my first time doing nsfw... (Requests Open!!!!)
☼☽⋆。°✧ SFW ✧⋆°。☾☼
He’s definitely a big cuddler. He’s always trying to keep you in bed in the morning.
He loves to give you hugs from behind. Whether on an adventure or just doing the dishes; he’ll walk up behind you, wrap his arms around your waist, rest his head on your shoulder, and just chit-chat.
He’s very protective. Let’s be honest, it can get pretty annoying at times, but you know he always means the best. When you get hurt, you never doubt that he’ll be by your side immediately.
He loves that you have a good relationship with Sam and Sully. He just loves all of you so much, so it means a lot that you guys get along.
He never misses the chance to tell you that he loves you. Every time you leave the room or hang up a phone call with him, he makes sure to tell you how much he loves you.
He’s just so in love with you. There isn’t a single thing about you that he doesn’t love. Sam and Sully are constantly catching him with a love-struck look on his face, and they make sure to make fun of him for it. Hell, they make fun of you too. They’re always making comments about how you have Nate wrapped around your finger. About how maybe you did some kind of magic and casted a spell on him.
As history nerds, the two of you love to randomly reference historical facts (”That’s more pathetic than King Phillip II of Spain’s fifth armada”).
One time, Nate went on a “top secret mission” that he refused to tell you the details of. Though you were initially against it, Nate begged you to trust him and eventually convinced you to let him go (it took a couple of different methods of persuasion). Turns out, he had gone on a risky mission— risky enough that you wouldn’t have agreed to him going— due to the large sum the award provided. With this money, he bought a custom engagement ring. It was the ring you always told him that you wanted if you guys ever became filthy rich. Not only did it have top-of-the-line metal, it had the most beautiful gems in it.
He’s a HUGE flirt. Even though you’re already together, he always makes sure to tell you how hot you look. You could be fighting mercenaries or even brushing your teeth and he’ll tell you that you’re gorgeous.
After an unsuccessful mission, he’ll always say something along the lines of, “It’s okay, I still have you and that’s all I’ll ever need.”
You guys met when he came to you regarding information on a certain treasure. You agreed to give him the information on one condition: you get to go find the treasure with him.
☼☽⋆。°✧ NSFW ✧⋆°。☾☼
He’s very jealous and that tends to translate into your sex life. After some guy tries to flirt with you, he’ll make sure to remind you why you don’t need anyone else.
He LOVES to eat you out. Part of it is that he just likes pussy. But most of it is that he loves to pleasure you. He doesn’t care if he gets off, as long as you do.
Once, when you guys were on a mission, the mercenaries had captured you. When Nate FINALLY got to you, you were tied up. He definitely waited a few minutes before letting you down so that he could stare at you. Everything about the way you looked with your hands tied above your head and how mean you were to the mercenaries turned him on. Ever since then, he has loved tying you up.
He’s tried roleplaying with you. One scenario was that he was a thief trying to seduce you into letting him take the Queen’s crowned jewels.
He likes to edge you. While he is all about your pleasure, he knows that you’re into it. It also gives him a sense of satisfaction, we all know how cocky he is. Occasionally, he’ll even add on overstimulation, going until you’re begging him to stop.
One time he had the terrible idea to try a lush on you. He made you wear it (you consented of course) on a very low-risk mission. While you were successful, it’s not something you would do again.
He’s often away, so he’s not opposed to sexting. He doesn’t care if it’s over text or on call, he’s down for it. He especially loves it when you send him unprompted nudes.

Aziraphale and Crowley Timeline
I made a timeline of the Aziraphale and Crowley relationship based on the TV show, book, stage directions, and Neil Gaiman’s blog. It was designed to track negative space and off-screen interactions for the purposes of fic writing, so maybe other fic writers would enjoy it. Please add anything I missed. I’ll edit as necessary.
Before the Beginning — Nebula rollout
Aziraphale shares his name with a heavy implication that they have not met before.
Crowley tells Nina and Maggie, “We’ve been talking for millions of years,” implying some sort of relationship before Crowley’s fall.
Sunday, October 21, 4004 B.C. at 9:13 a.m. — The creation of the universe
4004 B.C., "just after the beginning" — The Garden of Eden
Crowley (Crawly) tells Aziraphale his new name, which implies minimal interaction since Crowley’s fall. They were aware of each other’s presence in the garden as evidenced by Crowley having noticed the flaming sword.
3004 B.C., Mesopotamia — Noah’s Ark
Crowley follows up on the flaming sword, which implies but does not confirm that they haven’t interacted since Eden.
[3004 BC - 2500 BC: NO INTERACTION as evidenced by Aziraphale’s comment, “I haven’t seen you since the flood.”
2500 B.C., Land of Uz — Job
2000 B.C., Sodom and Gomorrah
It’s confirmed from the TV show that Aziraphale was present (as evidenced by their comment about Sandalphon’s participation)
It’s confirmed from the book that Crowley was not present and did not visit afterwards.
[800 BC - 200 BC: Deleted scene from TV show, Arabian Nights-inspired]
33 A.D., Golgotha — The crucifixion
41 A.D., Rome — Aziraphale runs into Crowley
537 A.D., Kingdom of West Essex — Crowley suggests they stop working just to cancel each other out
[1020 A.D. (BOOK CANON) — Arrangement (non-interference) is established. Then, they extend the arrangement to “hold the fort” for one another.]
[1023 A.D. (BOOK CANON) — Crowley comes back to argue that you need to start people off equal in order to let them choose between good and evil, equivalent of The Resurrectionists in the TV series.]
[1400s: “Papal” scene, cut from TV show]
[1567 A.D. — Mary Queen of Scots dies, this scene was cut and converted to The Resurrectionists]
[1556 AD - 1598 AD (BOOK CANON): Crowley is in Spain when he receives a commendation for the Spanish Inquisition. He checks it out then comes back and gets drunk for a week. Time range is evidenced by the line, “That Hieronymus Bosch,” who is a painter who inspired King Phillip II.]
1601, Globe Theatre, London — Hamlet
CONFIRMED: Multiple interactions between Wessex (537 AD) and now as evidenced by Crowley’s statement that they’ve covered for each other “dozens of times now.”
1650, Unknown — First “I Was Wrong” dance (performed by Aziraphale)
[1600 - 1800, United States: A scene set during the Wild West, cut from TV show]
1793, Paris — The French Revolution
A recent interaction is implied by Crowley saying, “I thought you were opening a bookshop.”
1800, London — The bookshop opens (confirmed that it opened “a couple years” after Mr. Hatchard in Piccadilly, founded 1797)
[Book — Crowley is asleep through most of the 19th century, gets up in 1832 for bathroom]
1820s, U.K. — Aziraphale’s diary excerpt, in which he mentions that he told Crowley the story “afterwards” (although “afterwards” can be a very long time for two immortal beings so it doesn’t confirm much)
1827, Edinburgh — The Resurrectionists
[Confirmed: “It was the last I was to see of Crowley for quite some time.”]
1862, St. James Park, London — Crowley requests holy water
Their understanding of the agreement is, “Stay out of each other’s way. Lend a hand when needed.”
[1862 - 1941: NO INTERACTION as evidenced by the stage directions that Aziraphale has not seen Crowley in a hundred years.]
1941, London
[1960s: cut scene set in America, note: both female-presenting]
1967, Soho — Aziraphale gets holy water for Crowley
2008, U.K. — Antichrist is born
2013, U.S. — Crowley and Aziraphale both begin work for the Dowlings
[“The story starts, as it will end, in a garden” — although technically garden is no longer where it started]

Libraries Around the World: San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Spain
The Library of El Escorial
Image courtesy of Jose Maria Cuellar's Flickr stream.
This library is located in the Royal Seat of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, the historical residence of the king of Spain. Phillip II was responsible for adding the library and most of the books originally held within. The vaulted ceilings were painted with gorgeous frescoes, each representing one of the seven liberal arts: rhetoric, dialectic, music, grammar, arithmetic, geometry and astronomy. These days, the library is a World Heritage Site, and it holds more than 40,000 volumes.

ides of march
well, its tumblr's favorite holiday and who can blame us? The assassination of Julius Caesar is probably one of the only group projects that ever went down the way it was supposed to with, well, not complete group participation (there were said to be upward of 60 people involved but only 23 stab wounds - obviously someone was not carrying their weight) but at least a good effort was made at it. But lets take a moment, between our jokes about salad and Animal Crossing butterfly nets to look at what else has happened in history on the Ides of March. For instance, did you know, on March 15th:
1493 - Columbus returned to Spain after 'discovering' the new world.
1580 - Phillip II of Spain put a bounty on the head of Prince William I of Orange for 25,000 gold coins for leading the Dutch revolt against the Spanish Hamburgs
1744 - King Louis XV of France declares war on Britain
1767 - Andrew Jackson, who would go on to be the seventh president of the US, was born.
1820 - Maine became the 23rd state in the US
1864 - the Red River Campaign, called 'One damn blunder from beginning to end' started for the Union Forces in the American Civil War
1889 - a typhoon in Apia Harbor, Samoa sinks 6 US and German warships, killing 200
1917 - Czar Nicholas II abdicated the Russian throne, bringing an end to the Romanov dynasty
1955 - the first self-guided missile is introduced by the US Air Force
1965 - TGI Friday's opens its first restaurant in New York City
1991 - in LA, four police officers are brought up on charges for the beating of Rodney King
2018 - Toys R Us announces it will be closing all its stores
2019 - a terrorist attacks two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, killing 51, and wounding 50 others
Oof! Pretty bleak, isn't it? It would almost make you think that the day is just bad luck, start to finish and its probably just as well, we're all focusing on assassination instead of other horrors. But wait - its not all bad news! The Ides of March has some tricks up its sleeve yet (joke intended). I'd be telling you only half the story if I didn't add:
1854 - Emil von Behring is born and will eventually become the first to receive the Nobel Prize in medicine for his discovery of a diphtheria antitoxin, being called 'the children's savoir' for the lives it saves
1867 - Michigan is the first state to use property tax to support a university
1868 - the Cincinnati Red Stockings have ten salaried players, making them the first professional baseball team in the US
1887 - Michigan has the first salaried fish and game warden
1892 - the first automatic ballot voting machine is unveiled in New York City
1907 - Finland gives women the right to vote, becoming the first to do so in Europe
1933 - Ruth Bader Ginsberg is born and will go on to become a US Supreme Court justice
1934 - the 5$ a day wage was introduced by Henry Ford, forcing other companies to raise their wages as well or lose their workers
1937 - the first state sponsored contraceptive clinic in the US opens in Raleigh, North Carolina
1946 - the British Prime minister recognizes India's independence
1947 - the US Navy has its first black commissioned officer, John Lee
1949 - clothes rationing ends in Britain, four years after the end of WWII
1960 - ten nations meet in Geneva for disarmament talks
1968 - the Dioceses of Rome says it will not ban 'rock and roll' from being played during mass but that it deplores the practice - also in 1968, LIFE magazine titles Jimi Hendrix 'the most spectacular guitarist in the world'
1971 - ARPANET, the precursor of the modern day internet, sees its first forum
1984 - Tanzanian adopts a constitution
1985 - symbolics.com, the first internet domain name, is registered
The Ides of March turns out to just be a day, like any other day in history.
Unless you're us. In which case -
#ides of march#happy ides of march#julius caesar#today in history#please take some of my 'bad' dates as tongue in cheek#we love you maine#and a few of my dates fit both the good and bad side of the things so I just went with whichever I was on at the time#feel free to wiggle them around to a more appropriate column
