The bus breaks down so the team is stranded for the night. You are stressed. But someone is here to help.

You were blessed that Iwaizumi was Seijoh’s vice captain. He kept Oikawa under control, which helped your job more than the captain would ever admit, and it also saved you in times like this.

“Y/N-Chan! I made sure you get to room with me!”

You didn’t even try to reply as Iwa snapped at him, “Y/N doesn’t want to room with you, Shittykawa!”

“Wah- Iwa-Chan! You don’t know that!”

This was never supposed to be a part of the plan when you helped schedule the match. The bus wasn’t supposed to break down- even the third years couldn’t take the train home from the school sanctioned trip without supervision, and even though there were hours before it got actually dark no one’s parents could come get them. You weren’t supposed to be stuck in another prefecture for the night with a group of boys that needed a whole team of babysitters. You definitely were not supposed to be stuck overnight with your crush.

You could swear you felt a vein in you forehead about to burst as the two of them argued. Coach Irihata moved to step in, but you cut him off, “Okay, listen up! Yahaba, Iwa, I’m flipping a coin. One of you gets Oikawa, the other gets Kyotani. Iwa, call it.”

You flipped the coin as he shrugged, “Heads.”

“Tails, Yahaba gets choice. Watari, you get Makki. Mattsun, you’re with Kunimi. Kindaichi , you will be taking all of their phones from them at lights out and then rooming with me. Why all of their phones, I’m sure Watari at the very least wants to ask, and it’s because Kunimi needs sleep instead of doing whatever he does on his phone, Makki and Mattsun will spend all night looking at memes if we don’t stop them, and if you leave Watari’s phone he’ll cave and let Makki use it. Arguments??” Oikawa opened his mouth, but one look at your face as you heaved from the angry speech and his jaw was snapping closed faster than if Iwa had hit him with a ball. Coach Irihata nodded his head in satisfaction, not hiding his impressed expression at how quickly you resolved your own headache. Everyone seemed to acknowledge how thought out the plan was, except Kindaichi who looked like he was about to explode if his face got any redder- not that you noticed, too busy grabbing Oikawa by the ear after he tried to make his roommate carry his things for him.

It wasn’t until you managed to get all of them finally into the building, taking one last trip to the city bus that delivered your team to the hotel, that you realized your bag wasn’t there. “Son of a-“ You sighed, pressing your fingers in as you rubbed circles in your temples. You hadn’t even noticed it got left behind, too busy making sure none of the boys wandered off or trying to keep Iwa from killing Oikawa or Kyotani from attacking a pedestrian. You finally walked back inside, slumping into a lobby chair before heaving a sigh and digging into your manager bag and pulling out the training schedule, but that only lasted the two minutes it took before your already used up pen died. All your spares were stowed in the bag that still sat on the broken down bus. A silent growl escaped you as you threw it down, burying your face in your hands as the frustration bubbled. You were just a first year! There was only so much stress you could handle!

You were mentally making a pros and cons list of quitting- pros: more free time and less headaches, cons: possibly losing the friends you’d made and spending less time with- a presence taking the seat beside you cut the list off, and you blinked dazedly to see Kindaichi looking at you in concern, “You doing okay? You seem kind of…”

“Cranky?” You offered, a scowl covering your face- a person from any other team might’ve flinched back. But when you regularly spend time with an aggressive Kyotani, an angry Iwa, and a sleep deprived Kunimi, there’s probably not a lot that can startle you.

“I was going to say stressed,” he responded, his brows knitting together as he held up a hand.

“Keep it,” you grumbled, “It’s dead anyway.”

“Don’t you usually carry like seven?”

“Part six thousand of the stress. My bag was left on the bus.” You rubbed your hands over your face, having already accepted the fact that you would be without a change of clothes and your charger, but still annoyed with yourself for the oversight. You vaguely registered movement, looking to see him moving away from your seats to your mild- though elevated from your frustration- offense. Of course he walked away. He probably thought you were being stupid. It was kind of stupid. It had been your own fault after all.

Heaving a sigh, you force yourself back to your feet, determined to get some rest and reset your mood.

But first you have to check on your boys.

“Y/N-Chan, is there a gym nearby? I figure if we’re stuck we could still practice.”

“Absolutely not, Oikawa,” you rub at your head again, trying to fight off your growing headache, “None of you are to leave the hotel. Coach is grabbing food for dinner, everyone should head up to their rooms, start getting settled in. The replacement bus will be here early in the morning.”

“But Y/N-chaaaaan-“

“I said no!” You snapped quickly, “Go find Yahaba or Iwa- whichever one got stuck with you- and go to your damn room!”

Feeling a tap on your shoulder, you were ready to snap again, but stopped short when you saw Kindaichi, “What?”

He held up a bundle of clothes, looking as anxious as he always did around you, “I went to ask around since I didn’t have the stuff you needed. Some of the guys packed extra clothes, I think the shirt is Kyotani’s and the shorts are Kunimi’s. Watari said you could use his charger since you’ll have his phone tonight anyway, and Iwa and Yahaba both had some spares pens in their bags if you wanted to keep working.”

You felt like a weight had been lifted off of you, with such a simple gesture as Kindaichi asking around just to help you, you let out a sigh of relief, “I could honestly kiss you right now.” You both froze at your words, and unfortunately for you a certain setter happened to hear them.

“Oh~, is that why you always turn me down, Y/N-Chan?”

Without missing a beat, you turned back to Oikawa’s smirking face, “Yes. Now go to bed or I swear to god you will not be playing in the next match. I’ll convince Coach you need to rest your knee and tell him I heard you say the doctor ordered that you needed a break.”

You waited until he fled before glancing back at your fellow first year, “Look- I can swap with Kunimi tonight if you want? I know it’s weird that I put you with me, especially when I like you, and I don’t want you to think-“

“I’d like to room with you. I… well, I like you, too.” Kindaichi looked like his face could set him aflame any second, but you just nodded.

“Oh. Cool. Um. Should we go then?”

The next morning, getting up before the sun to get on the bus, it was clear Oikawa hadn’t kept the conversation to himself. Not when every member of the team was smirking at the two of you.

But you supposed you could ignore it. Especially as Kindaichi took the seat next to you and entwined your hands.

now the problem laid with Kyotani

when he first joined, you could already tell he was going to be the toughest to work with

you did your best to get him to work better with the team but no matter how much hard work you put in, nothing seemed to work

you felt so unmotivated the next day. the dark energy around you brought down the team's mood too and they got worried

the team thought you were so shattered to the point of quitting when you didn't show up the next day, and caused Oikawa to commence pandemonium and wide spread panic before you showed up an hour later with a smile

you promised Kyotani to not exposed that he was doing self training elsewhere, so that secret was safe all the way until he came back

he was a little grateful for that, but it didn't mean he was happy to see you were still around when he finally came back

"what's this? the third years' still around? i figured they'd be gone by now after losing in the interhigh prelims."

spring high was approaching in just a few weeks time so the team was putting in extra effort in their spikes and block for today's training

as usual, you were off to the side with your notebook, jotting down what else needs to be improved but because you were so lost in your own world, the stray canon spike that Kyotani executed slammed into your head

looked like you got stabbed, if they had to be honest about how messed up you looked

the coaches quelled the fuss and scolded every one for acting like it was the end of the world - they didn't want you to get stressed out by looking at this unneeded chaos

you were mildly shocked, of course, since in your entire career managing the volleyball team, not even one ball flew your direction. the team always made sure to stop when you were close by

you assured the team that you were fine because it wasn't the first time you had nose bleed, not realising you had actually hit your head against the wall

By the time their timers ran out, you were back with Kindaichi, Makki and Matsukawa in a little hidden area.

“Iwaizumi looked pretty pissed when I saw him!” Kindaichi exclaimed, making Matsukawa hum.

“Not surprised, I’d be a little pissed myself if my teammate didn’t shoot,” he mumbled before adjusting the vest he had on. “Wait, sh. Someone’s here..”

Oikawa suddenly jumped out from the shadows, “I am here to get my reve-“ he was then shot once again..
