I was never the “weird kid in school” growing up, because I was homeschooled. So I was then “the weird kid in the family” because other children I was blood related to were the only people I was allowed to spend time around. And they weren’t “allowed” to be mean to or bully me because obviously I was family and they’d get in trouble. So, I got that brand of bullying that specifically a lot of autistic kids gets where they were subtlety making fun of me and I never realized but I had vague notions something was wrong and they secretly didn’t like me and could never figure it out and when I tried confiding in adults over it I was told I was insane and being over dramatic. You know the drill
Specifically, there were two girl cousins I grew up with that were REALLY really bad about it. They thought I was a weirdo and a freak and annoying and one of them actually frequently made fun of me for being a lesbian before I was really even fully aware of what a lesbian even was (she was the only one of us who wasn’t homeschooled and so overly sheltered)
One of them, after high school when we coincidentally began working the same job when covid first happened, I eventually ended up being chill with. She apologized, and she never had a very easy life either (which I always knew), and we’re fine now. She’s actually one of the very few people on my mom’s side of the family I still talk with, and she doesn’t get along with most of them either. The other one…. We never even saw each other again after high school, and stopped speaking several years before that
Anyways, I was talking with the one I was chill with today, and apparently the other girl is getting married. She asked if I was coming to the wedding and I was like oh yeah no I didn’t even know that was happening and she was like. Oh. She said she sent you an invitation? Which is so funny to me because this girl DEFINITELY does not know where I live, meaning she either sent the invite to my mother’s, or she lied to the other girl and said she invited me and both are really amusing but also I’m like. Why would she even think about inviting me to her wedding we haven’t spoken in like 7-8 years and I know my other cousin didn’t ask if she invited me or not, the other girl had to have brought it up. It’s just odd lol
#I assumed most of my family outside of immediate forgot I existed#I graduated high school and immediately dropped off the face of the planet from their perspectives#it’s always wild to me when I get reminded that I still like. consciously exist to them#but like girl we don’t like each other and we know that…. why would you invite me to your wedding….#to flex? maybe. it might be that#but it’s still weird and she has to know that I don’t give a fuck cuz I never have about that kinda stuff lol#kaz rambles

Its like. SO surreal when you grow up "alongside" an artist- youre the same age, but they had a following bigger and better before you ever had social media to begin with, you two grow up, you follow their progress and they enjoy your support..
the clock strikes 19, and suddenly its like a ticking time bomb to see if they realized the responsability on their shoulders and that they need to grow up-their sudden power imbalance with younger friends, mutuals and fans. Do they know the damage they can cause? most of them dont.
Through a mix of self unawareness and selfishness, they hurt someone. they hurt a minor and now this person you watched develop before your very own eyes is the religated piece of shit of the week and shunned from the community.
Its even worse when thats your friend..
#i was kind of in such a situation but we spoke recently and i promised to stop talking about it. sort of. i guess i forgave them?#theres some leeway into forgiveness when the offense isnt extremely dire i suppose#what Synnibear did was..not good. and her refusal to self reflect and actually maintain her apology shows shes a bad person. theres no -#-forgiveness#and the guy i knew as a kid. they were just unaware frankly#i feel kind of violated by them but we made amends and moved on. i just kinda feel..gross for it still.#so thats kind of like. a reminder. to correct my posture and not be a freak weirdo around people in general#still a shame aint it#i can now name two artists who ive respected. followed and wanted to befriend turn out to be horrible people! wow#the other guy has a ally that im in personal kahoots with aswell#. ok i know his boyfriend is what im saying#and he says theres 'personal troubles' that the victim 'failed to mention'#i really. doubt anything can excuse talking to a 16 y.o weird when youre 18-19 bro#but am i being twofaced#i forgave Chris#but its not our place to forgive Kaz#does he realize he hurt someone for life#i was hurt for life#im still struggling with that weird shit that happened to me. theres effects im trying to hurdle over#that person probably had it way worse then i did right? imagine their struggle#how is Kaz any more superior or innocent enough to be 'forgiven' and 'permitted return'#even if somehow that kid turned around and forgave him. nobody will want him back#whats done is done. and if there was a way to 'justify' or 'explain' himself ... it doesnt matter#they dont forgive him#he hurt them#fuck this dude for real

Things we (me) are forgetting about Six of crows, not in order:
• There were rumours that Wylan was caught in an affair with his tutor
• Inej killed rinca moten (the desert lizard) that Matthias claimed he never seen being defeated before. She did it in few seconds too
• Jesper and Nina had chloropellets that they used to put other prisoners to sleep stitched under their skin. And had to cut them out to use them
• Matthias had a buzzcut for whole two books and half; also, half of SoC he had brown hair and brown eyes tailored
• Kaz had lockpicks and bloody explosives swallowed for the entirety of heist, and had to regurgitate them every other hour
• When Nina was young, she wanted to go to Fjerda as an avenging warrior or a spy (foreshadowing, I guess)
• Inej used Kaz's gloves to climb in the incenerator scene
• After learning Inej's real name, Kaz asked if that's what she preferred to be called
•Kaz's pov has shown that he probably had fracture or other injury from when he jumped while carrying Inej in his arms, and it was never mentioned him getting any medical attention. My boy been running this heist like this, AND without his cane for hours
• They blew up the nation's holy magical tree (somehow I keep forgetting this part)
• Matthias gave Kaz an agressive CPR until Nina took over. So his heart probably stopped during heist? (Somebody just give him a vacation or something)
•Nina flirts/ed with Kaz (as he had mentioned himself, she just loves flirting with everybody and everything)
•Inej seems to be the ONLY one in the Dregs without their tattoo
•Matthias labeled Inej as a demon in his head as well, not only Kaz
•Matthias' middle name is Benedik. I think only his and Jesper's second names were revealed (very likely that they are the only ones who have them)
•Kaz gave Matthias the "you wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me" talk (like, literally)
•“You can’t spend his money if you’re dead.”
“I’ll acquire expensive habits in the afterlife.”
•Inej thought that Kaz "at least owes me his best imitation of a human being".
•Wylan was standing up to Kaz several times, even at times when others wouldn't (like right after the Oomen incident)
•Matthias has the coolest nicknames for everybody in general
•Kaz kinda thinks more of Inej than others do? Has more faith in her and how strong she is, if you will
•Kaz went back for the Black Tips after Inej was injured and "there was enough blood to paint a barn red" (reminder that he still has a fracture after running with her in his hands and jumping off great heightswhile carrying her)
•Tolya was mentioned in SoC ("There’s a Heartrender at the Little Palace who can recite epic poetry for hours. Then you’d wish you had died.”)
•Matthias thanked Inej personally for being the reason they made it out of the harbor alive (that's right, everybody must respect Inej)
•Kaz wants reassurance that Inej believes in him once in a while
•Everybody feels kinda good about sharing secrets with Kaz cuz he's Dirtyhands and he wouldn't judge anything
•Kaz and Inej have a series of silent signals?
•Kaz said "You don't want a look at what's inside my head, Nina dear" while wearing fucking dumb goggles
•Inej is the only sacred thing in Kaz's life, and she made him feel like a boy still believing in existence of magic
#i had this in my drafts#for months apparently#since i reread soc this summer#six of crows#wylan van eck#inej ghafa#matthias helvar#jesper fahey#nina zenik#kaz brekker

This is so fucking real it’s insane the amount of just??? Weird misinterpretation of Oliver is so insane???? Like that boy is probably one of them damn homos too he would NOT be homophobic by any means 😭
I'm sorry but the idea that Oliver "We're a package deal" "Without Kaz, there's no me" "I'm always thinking 'what can I do for Kaz? How can I make him happy?'" "Only you and I could've [figured that out], that's why we're best friends" Nolastname would EVER be (seriously) homophobic to Kaz or stop being friends with him bc of his sexuality is laughable
#prev tags are also real#not to bash too much on EF but the writing objectively kinda butchered the MM characters#also reminds me a bit of a comment on an EF retrospective where someone said they think kaz and Oliver’s powers were probably like#activated by each other but Disney thought it was too gay 😒#anyway sorry for yapping op say it louder for the people in the back

CONFLICT = CHEMISTRY!
in which, you and sae got into a lil conflict outside a football stadium & the paparazzi’s made a false statement that the two of you are dating.
an itoshi sae smau series
act iii, ep 025 : argument | next part
argument between rin & you, short written + 1 attachment
wc : 490+
you felt terrible after you ghosted sae. you didn’t even see his notification cause you cleared it. and now he’s not answering.
rin’s team won the match, but before you could leave, rin called you to hang out last time. you were about to refuse but you just couldn’t cause he was your friend.
so while you and rin was just going around paris, you noticed whenever you want to remind rin that you gotta go so that you won’t be late for the date, rin always, always dismissed you and took you somewhere else.
he would take you places that he himself would call ‘mid’ but why is he taking you there? until you realize, he did not wanted you to go with sae at all.
cause when you told him that sae didn’t respond, he kinda just lets you go. but you, needed to find out why. you are now at the hotel room after he had just helped you pack.
“rin,” you called his name and he glanced at you, “what?” he raised his eyebrow before you took a breath and asked him, “did you purposely held me here so that i don’t go out with sae?”
he froze, which just confirms your suspicious. “why?” and that’s when he told you, “cause i don’t want you to go out with sae.”
“that’s all.” he said, and you almost think that he likes you and is just jealous. but you dismissed that thought, only thinking about what will happen.
“rin, other than that you don’t have any other reasons?” you asked and he nodded, which you just sighed. “you do realize i have to do this so that-“
“so that we don’t get involved in your drama? [name] i don’t care about people bombing my comment section asking me about the two of you, it’s better than seeing you do this only for us.” he snapped, and you’re starting to get frustrated.
“maybe you don’t care, but i do.” you said, “rin, i feel terrible whenever i see the chat and you guys would say something about how they are bothering you guys.”
“but that doesn’t mean you have to fake date my bro-“ when he was about to continue, you had cut him off, “what more ideas do i have, rin?” you are now the one that snapped, “i tried to say it’s false, he tried to say it’s false and yet they still attacked you guys.”
“when we confirmed it, comments in your pages are no longer bothering you guys as much, i know about the hate comments, and how you dislike sae, but right now, his ideas is what’s working.” you said and he went quiet, “i.. booked the flight back to spain. it’s going in about an hour.”
“i’ll see you next time rin.” you said before taking your travel bag and leaving, rin is just there. defeated once more, this same argument reminded him of when his brother came back from spain.

HII! HOW ARE YOU? Okay so i have a kaz brekker x reader request but it's kinda meh but i just can't stop thinking about it. And it's kinda similar to your fic 'high' (my favorite piece of media EVER)
So fem!reader (or gn whichever is easier for you<3) drunk and makes fun of the way kaz talks and his hair and the way how he's really bossy. (I would so call him emo king) and he's just trying to get her to take a bath (be a fish) and rest.
Please please don't feel pressured you can just ignore this. Don't forget to drink water. Have a nice day or night love youu<3
Loverboy
♡ Summary: Kaz comes and fetches you after you have a bit too much to drink. Getting you to bathe and rest for the night is a little more difficult than he remembers.
♡ Pairing: Kaz Brekker x Reader
♡ Fandom: Six of Crows, Grishaverse
♡ Warning(s): Alcohol, Nudity (not smut)
♡ WC: 3.5k
Hello hello!!! Thank you for your request <3 I'm doing pretty alright thank you for asking. I hope you're doing okay!
I loved being prompted to expand on this and experiment with how it would go. To be honest that's also one of my fav pieces of work that I've done, and I'm glad someone else holds the same joy for it that I do!
Anyway, here it is!! Hope you enjoy it anon, ly <3
Please excuse any grammar and spelling mistakes
∘₊✧──────────────────✧₊∘
"Oh for Ghezen's sake just put one foot in front of the other." Kaz nipped, pushing just a bit harder on your back.
Your head was lolling back and to the side, unwillingly looking at the stars. Yet your eyes remain half closed, barely a fraction of your pupil visible in the moonlight. A smile is painted on your face the whole time, lips chapped and cracked from dehydration. "'M tryin' Kaz. But my head is just, so heavy and the stars 're so pretty."
"I know I know- hold on to the cane- the cane!"
He shouldn't have let you have those last few drinks, but unfortunately you batted your little lashes and made the same little promises you do after enough time has passed for his memories to become just a little bit muddled and forget how far from the truth your promises are.
You'll say you'll be fine. You'll say you'll get home safe. You'll say you'll see him soon.
But you can't really fulfill any of those. So he at least has the foresight to stay with you, or to have someone else stay with you and come get him when you down more than your promised two or three.
And he makes a big deal out of it, saying all these things and talking like he's annoyed with you, but really?
He's not.
Not as much as he thinks he should be anyway. If he had heard anybody else complaining as much as he does in his own head he'd stuff his own glove in their mouth and tell them to deal with their inadequate relationship elsewhere.
But it's him, and it's you, and it's different.
You're not like them. You're not violent or a verbal tyrant or negligent.
"Did I ever tell you..." You start, then chuckle to yourself when you straighten up and sway around. "Did I ever tell you that kin'a remind me of a cat with your hair slicked back like that?"
You're,,, silly. And he feels silly saying that but you are. It's the perfect word to describe you when you get like this. Light jabs at the things you like about him, your feet walking to a rhythm in your head that makes you stop and go and speed and slow at random, laughing at the most mundane things.
"I don't believe you have, no." You definitely have. But he allows you to repeat it.
The Slat is wonderfully empty as he opens the door. Only a few people occupy the tables off to the side, but they're just as drunk as you are, and he doubts they can see this far from their drooling.
"Come on." He leads you over to the stairs. "Up we go."
You lean on the rail, shaking your head, smile gone. "Mh-mhn. I can't." You continue to shake your head, eyes closed. "Your leg is bad."
Silly.
"Good observation. Your legs, however, are fine, if a bit wobbly. Up you come." He tries again to coax you up, to no avail. You lean on the rail more, even pushing into it.
He forgot how much you resemble an ox when it comes to getting you to do something. It's like you contain this ability to just plant yourself anywhere and stick no matter the force that's pulling or pushing you.
"Your leg is bad. I can't go up."
"My bad leg does not effect your ability to walk up the stairs." He says as gentle as possible.
"But it does."
He sighs. "Could you explain to me why that is?"
Your bottom lip pushes out just barely, eyes opening and looking at him through your lashes. It's a look that would have any man in Kerch on their knees, he's sure of it. "Need your help."
His heart sunk. "Just grab the railing and my cane, dove. I'll take my good leg up first."
You analyzed the stairs, scrutinizing them. "Promise?"
"You know I don't make-"
"Promise?" A hint of anger bubbled in your tone, the same firmness in your eyes when you snapped your head to look at him.
He takes a deep breath. "I promise."
And just like that you were ready to ascend the stairs. You grabbed the railing, clumsily reaching out for his cane which he gave readily.
Even in your drunken state, you knew exactly which stairs creaked and which ones were just this side of broken. You skipped a stair, glaring at it as Kaz ascended with his good leg first, then continued with your usual lax expression.
He tried to step with his bad leg, but you immediately backtracked and held his cane firmly, holding him back as well. "You promised." You bit out.
"I did." He switched back, good leg going up, slowly edging you along. "It just slipped my mind."
"Nothin' slips your mind." You pouted, begrudgingly ascending when the cane went too far to hold close.
"Important things," he corrected. "Important things don't slip my mind."
You yanked on the cane, making him look at you. "You're important."
And he... doesn't know what to do with that.
Of course in whatever realm you were occupying he'd be important. He's important for a lot of things. His businesses, his club, whatever constitutes as leader of the crows.
It's not that he thinks he's not important. He just forgets to take into account that with you, he's important in the little things too.
Pointing him where to massage on his leg when it's giving him trouble, bringing him fresh tea when he tries to drink the day old stuff pushed to the corner of his desk, at least reminding him to sleep when the clock reaches two bells in the dark hours.
And right now, when you force him to take the pressure off his poorly healed shin.
"You're right." He confirms, helping you to the top of the stairs. "I am. Now come on."
When he began to lead you to his room, you groaned and stood in place. "Noo. I don' wanna fish."
His mouth struggled to stay in a line, corners quirking up. "You have to fish. You're sweaty and you smell like alcohol."
"I's a good smell."
"You gag in the morning when you smell it."
"Hogwash, you walking shadow."
He tugged you along, walking ahead of you and up the stairs to the attic. His help wasn't much needed here with how narrow and more secure the steps were, but you needed the extra hand to coax you up and towards your inevitable bath.
His office was dark, the only thing preventing the room from being cast in complete darkness was the street lights outside pushes a faint yellow glow through the window.
A lantern was stored in a bookcase next to the door for this reason. He clipped his cane onto his belt and hooked a finger under the handle, giving you little assurances that he wasn't going to let you fall while he navigated the room he knew by heart.
He parked you by his makeshift desk, guiding your hands to the desktop for some leverage while he rustled through a cabinet for the matches.
Immediately you were enthralled with the fire. Nina thinks you were an Inferni in your past life, and he finds the idea hard to not believe as he watches your once droopy eyes widen and follow the ball of fire in his hand as it lights the lantern.
He closes the shade, putting out the match and watching you smile as the whole room lights up.
"So bright." You whisper, as if it's your first time seeing fire.
He shrugs off his coat, throwing it over the back of his chair. "Very. Don't touch it."
You pout, taking your hand away. "I don't know what you're referring to."
He takes the lantern from where it rests on the desk, unhooking his cane and walking to the bathroom. "Come take your bath."
"'Come take your bath'." You mock him. "You're a bossy bossy man, you know that?"
He can't see you as he hangs the lantern on a hook, but he knows your hands are on your hips and your head cocked to the side. You always became so sassy when the initial fuzziness seems to wear off.
"It's what im paid for." He calls, swirling the basin of water he had filled up before he left. It was only expected that you should get a bath tonight, and he didn't want to wake anybody now of all times to come and fill it up.
"Youre not getting paid right now."
He didn't have any soap. He used up all of his last time and you usually keep yours tucked in your room, eager to hide its existence from greedy hands.
Just water will have to do, since he doesn't trust you to not fall asleep in the time it will take to go to your room and retrieve yours from your spare set of shoes.
He exits the bathroom, coming face to face with you. "I should be with how I'm ordering you around right now."
He waves you over, and it seems at this point you're becoming too tired to really fight back. You shrug off your outer layers, leaving them in a pile on the floor that you attempt to kick to the side. It's seems you think that you did away with them well enough, but really you just kind of spread them around.
That will have to come later, he thinks, and then puts a hand on your bare shoulder as you take off your shirt, throwing it over the side of the basin. Your pants come off and are thrown at its base, shoes somehow already off in the time span it took to check the tub and come retrieve you, socks following.
"You can keep your undergarments on if you'd like." He says, resting his cane against the wall.
"Oh don't get shy on me now, Kaz. You've seen me naked at least a dozen times." You look back at him, a shit eating smirk on your face.
He's thankful for the warm lantern light to obscure the warmth creeping up his neck and nipping at his ears. "Only because we end up in situations like these. It's more efficient to just get you clean now than have you complain in the morning and almost throw up in the tub."
You moan, the sound throaty and like gravel. "I don't wanna be a fish."
"You dont have to be one for long. Just a few minutes until you're clean."
"Can' be clean if there's no soap."
"We can at least get most of the grime off. Come on, one leg over the other."
Slowly, you climb into the tub, Kaz helping you get in with minimal sloshing.
And now comes the hard part.
His gloves are made of leather. He can't dunk and soak them in the water and expect them to be fine later.
They come off quicker than last time, but just as shakey. He puts on two pairs of cloth ones he's kept in here since the third time this happened, when it became apparent that this would happen again and several more times after.
Once they're on he flexes his hand, feeling the cold unforgiving waves slosh at his knees and lick up his thighs.
It's not the same. It's a bath. It's you.
"Can you get your body?" He asks, though. Because as much as he'd like to be of some help here he can't help but need to touch you the least amount as possible.
You think it over, stretching out as much as the tub allows before nodding. "M'yeah, I can do it."
He hands you a rag, watching it sink under the water and become several shades darker.
He turns around and allows you to do your thing, but knows your routine from when you, Nina, and Jesper had a heated debate about which order to wash your body in.
You'll wash your neck and chest first, digging into your collars bones and over your shoulders, then do you arms, followed by your torso and around your back. Then you'll scrub at your legs, moving to your face, then your waist, then your feet.
It'll take about ten minutes to go over every part, scrubbing in places you think have the most grime, and all the while having your shampoo already scrubbed into your hair so that you can rinse everything out all at once.
But you're tired and drunk, and he doesn't know how far you'll make it down your list until you eventually get frustrated or too exhausted or both.
He listens to the water in the tub move as your scrub yourself beneath its surface. A throaty hum emanates from your throat, a tune oddly familiar to the song that plays in the club filling the room.
Every once in a while you'll sigh, the water halting. He'll lean back and ask if you're alright, and you'll hum and get right back to scrubbing.
It's fifteen minutes before you say anything.
"You alright t' do my hair?"
His stomach churns, acid bubbling at its entrance.
"Ill be fine."
He turns, gesturing with his finger for you to lean your head into the water.
There's a pause before he reaches into the cold depths, wondering if he actually /will/ be fine.
When you look at him, eyes rimmed in red and glassy, he scrounges up whatever stability and modicum of the word "cope" he has and dunks them in.
Immediately he finds your hair, burying his fingers between the strands and finding your scalp.
It's hard to feel anything besides temperature with these gloves, and your head is practically burning against the cool water.
You're definitely cold. He can tell by your flushed cheeks and the way you curl your arms around your waist, goosebumps littering your arms. Yet you remain warm under his touch.
He watches the little hairs on your arm wave in the bath current as he scrubs, almost hypnotizing in their back and forth movement as you move to let them rest against your thighs.
But it's not enough.
He's scrubbing your hair, trying so hard to just focus on the grime under his fingers as his hands make the cold water slosh. The feeling is oddly familiar to the waves coating his hands as they dunk half under as he clings to blue flesh.
But you look at him, and your giggle is like little bells that keep him above water, just for the moment.
"You know what you look like?" You ask. "You look like- oh, what's that new style they got goin' on?"
He has no idea what you're talking about. Fashion trends are far beneath his radar unless necessary for a job.
You snap your fingers, pointing up at him. "Emo!"
That makes his eyebrows raise. Because he is familiar with Emo, because a bunch of kids called him that when they were out much past their bedtime. They found it necessary to shout it at him while he was passing by, laughing as they ran into an alleyway.
"I don't think that's accurate." He manages to get out, dunking your head a little further to cover your ears and get the wisps of hair in front of them.
"It's sooo accurate." You draw out your o's, blinking slowly and out of sync. "Emo king."
He sighs. "Whatever you say, little fish."
You pout, moving away from him and turning belly down, chin dipping into the water. "I thought I was your dove."
Again, thankful for that warm light. It makes his stomach feel all twisty the way you say "your". For just a moment, he let's himself smile, really smile, and puts his chin on his hands. "You are. But right now, you're a fish."
You huff, turning back and putting your head within reach. "Okay, mister emo cat."
He sighs, beginning to scrub at the parts of your scalp that he already got but feels he needs to do another once over for. "I am neither emo nor a cat."
"Tell that to your hair, loverboy."
Loverboy.
He scoffs, taking his hands from your hair. "Your hair's done. Get out so you can dry off."
You laugh at your accomplishment, sitting up and scrunching your hair as he discards his wet gloves on a towel rack and dries himself off.
Honestly, loverboy? He's not some lovesick puppy. Loverboy applies to those who are unfathomably whipped, wrapped around their partners finger and touching at all times. It has no place being in the same sentence that his likeness occupies except to say that he is not a 'loverboy'.
He hands you a towel as you get out of the tub, heading to his closet to fetch you some of his clothes.
"An old one, please?" You yell out to him.
"I know." He calls back.
If he can help it he replaces his button ups every few months. But you like the ones that are just around that area of wear and tear. In your words, they "ain't tight and smell like him. Win win."
He doesn't bother with pants, but grabs a pair of his underwear for you to change into instead that he knows you'll find more comfortable.
As he limps back to the bathroom, he halts as he analyzes his thoughts and actions.
Fuck. Maybe he /does/ deserve the name Loverboy.
The realization almost makes him groan and sit down on the floor right then and there.
Can't he just carve his heart out? Isn't that what the poets and song writers do?
Alas, he is neither a poet nor a musician. So he will instead take the long way out, and bring you his clothes and get you into into his bed before the third bell chimes.
He hands you the clothes, watching your face light up for a moment before he exits to his office to clean up the mess you made.
The beak of his cane hooks under your coat, dragging it up and into his hand which he then throws onto the chair. You hate getting it off the coat rack, half the time pulling it with you when you take your coat back. So he sets it here for now, and takes your shoulder bag and shoes and organizes them around the chair just as you usually do.
"I think I found my new look."
He turns around, seeing you trying to pose against the wall. It's supposed to be sultry and sexy, but it definitely does not read that way with your soaked hair, stiff back, and uncooperative limbs.
"If you think so." He nearly chuckles, taking his gloves from your hands and slipping them onto his own, and then retrieves the lantern from the bathroom. "Come to bed."
Thankfully, you seem to love the idea of the bed. It doesn't take much to lead you to the little nook he calls his bedroom. He hooks the lantern to the wall as your body slumps onto his partially eaten sheets.
"Mmm." You hum, smile hidden under your squashed cheek. "Warm."
"Doubtful." He jabs, unfolding a blanket at the foot of the bed and draping it over you.
"It really is. Should try it sometime." You poke at the space beneath your eye, tongue sticking out.
He assumes you're referencing the eye bags that have taken permanent residence on his face, to which he rolls his eyes and hikes up the blanket to cover your back. You hate the cold creeping in.
If you wake up cold in the morning, you will be cold for the rest of the day. And unfortunately for you, you have a job in about six hours.
The less you have to complain about, the better.
"Ill try it later." He promises. "For now, you need it more."
You mumble something, but with the way your eyes are drooping he figures you're not even aware you said anything at all.
As you doze off, he half sits on his nightstand, and watches your breathing begin to slow and even out. It's loud at first, but eventually you grow quieter and quieter, muscles relaxing as you sink into his hard mattress.
Your hair is thrown about everywhere, still wet from your bath, and you'll need Nina to remove a kink in your shoulder in the morning. But for now, you're calm, and safe, and that's enough.
He takes a deep breath, just the same as you do, and then sighs.
"Goodnight, little fish." He mumbles, and then stands, off to collect the ingredients for a hangover tonic and catch up on paperwork.

okay so. i challenged myself to try and draw some snakes and try to capture the features i want to stand out for them. i wanted to see if i could make them all look distinct but where its obvious they look extremely similar.
heres the main lineup but i want to get into design elements for them as well as some personal headcanons.
FIRST! bibo.
okay so. i'm going to toot my own horn here. i think his beard looks so fire and i did a good job. i imagine this design is around the portable ops era... not much else to say because most of the interesting stuff (at least to me) comes from the differences the others have from him.
V!!! I LOVE YOU V!!!!!!!!!!
for venom snake, i made him look like big boss but Something's Off. in the game people often (notably huey and the boss' ai) don't recognize him as big boss for a few seconds. an imperfect replica because you cannot get that close with plastic surgery. i made the fat distribution on his neck a bit different from bibo's because i imagine the way that the human body configures itself is hard to change. if you noticed the little snake-tongue-shaped-hair-doohickeys, he is the only one with a slightly different shape. it's a genetic thing, you wouldn't get it. just thought that was silly. his hair texture is different, too. can u tell i like him a lot. also, my favorite detail might be his different nose shape. they never got bibo's nose right i guess. in mgsv, he actually has a bit of a downturned nose, and i honestly don't think i captured that enough.
TIME FOR MY FAVORITE BOY. LOVE OF MY LIFE. HOLDER OF MY GENDER ENVY. solid snake :3
SNAVID! the most obvious difference here is his nose. he broke it as a kid lol. i love headcanons. there's not as much to say about him as with venom, but i can say that he is incredibly handsome and i like him. i think he is cute. was he free yesterday? if so i would like to have dinner yesterday with him yesterday. well... i will say that out of this specific lineup i think he looks the most like good old dad. which is awful and i feel bad for him.
FINALLY: LIQUID!!!!!!!
i gave him his canonical sharp nose and high cheekbones! i based a lot of his features off how he looked as a kid so he really has little shit vibes about him. he also has thinner eyebrows, and i headcanon that he does them himself lol. he has less sideburny sideburns than his brother. his eyelids are also smaller. he also does look kinda like kaz so its plausible that he tricked dave! yippee! i also like drawing his hair. its such a great hairstyle. it reminds me of a lion's mane.
N E WAYS... i hope you enjoyed me rambling about giving these goobers a more realistic design for future reference. i like talking about this kind of stuff. life is so much better without same face syndrome.

Ease your mind.
Kaz brekker x reader
!This is very short!
Warning: Nothings much, kaz being okay with a bit of touch and more from the reader, reader is geisha, heartrender, reader being shorter then kaz. Just short and fluffy.
(Kinda reminds me of the song “Ease my mind” by Ben platt.)
The sound of the wind blowing the grass around him, the tree and the leaves swaying made kaz feel a bit at easy. This was his favorite part of the day, or when he got the chance. He would come to the old tree you like to sit at and read your thoughts away, sometimes the world liked to get easily overwhelming and you needed a break. Mostly it was the noise of the bar, all the loud voices and sounds of the chips or cups hitting the table for hours, drives you slightly insane.
As kaz inched near he saw your body laying against the tree and your head hanging down to read the words of your book. He found you breathtaking. Kaz walked through the grass with his cane helping him walk, he noticed you never looked towards him.
“I could have killed you already, you need to work on your surroundings.” His voice made you smile but didn’t look up at him.
“I heard your heartbeat approach me, kaz.” It was slick in your tone, how you shot back a snarky remark. Kaz smirked and let out a small chuckle, to quiet for you to hear. He walked closer and was then right beside you and looked out into the forest.
“How long have I been gone?” You asked and finally looked up at him, talking in his sharp and handsome features. “Two hours, Nina sent me.” You nodded your head and closed the book. You knew if someone didn’t come to get you each time, then you wouldn’t come back until you noticed the light from the sun was gone.
“Could they handle it?” You pushed yourself up and grabbed the small knitted bag you brought and placed your book inside. “Nothing they couldn’t handle.” Kaz answered and kept his eyes straight into the woods.
You smiled and giggled at the sight of his expression being somewhat calm. “I like it when you come and get me kaz.” You appeared right by his side and looked towards where he was looking.
Though as soon as you got close he turned his attention fully to you, a much better view then the trees. “And why’s that?” He was curious to know your answer. His eyes trailed along the details of your face. From your eyes, to the outline of your nose, then to your lips.
Everything he knew by heart.
“Because it gives you some sort of peace. I can feel how your heartbeat softens. And the look on your face,” you turn your head to meet his eyes, he liked the soft smile you gave him. “I just like to know something can ease you.”
His heart did flutter a bit and you noticed, also knowing yours did the same as well. He looked so handsome just looking at you with the sun shining on his face, the place around you looked like a place in the books you read. These moments the two of you shared throughout the years was special, just for the two of you.
“I do like the occasional kruger to ease my mind.” Kaz charmed and smirked at you. You sighed but laughed as you shook your head at him, he was still kaz. “Then I shall head back to work to make you some.”
His body burnt as you softly placed your hand on his chest through his vest, reaching up on your toes and planted a gentle kiss on his cheek. This wasn’t new to him, you had giving him a few touches and cheek kisses before. But no matter how many times you did it, he still got butterflies. His demons didn’t scream as much when you were so gentle.
“Be on your way.” He shooed you away and pulled back to look away from you, his cheeks becoming pink. You giggled and hoped off to the path to make your way back to the bar, kaz watched with a feeling in his stomach. It was to late for him to stop himself from falling in love with you.
Because that happened years ago. He was all yours the day you calmed him down from the flashbacks of his pasted. When you hushed the voices in his head, and eases him through it. The real reason he was at peace when he came to get you was not the nature around the two of you.
It was just your presence.

sweet nothing (k.b.)
to you, i can admit that i'm just too soft for all of it.
Summary: reader tries to surprise kaz, but he foils her plan out of concern for her safety.
Pairing(s): kaz x fem!reader (established relationship)
Word Count: ~2.5k
Warnings: one brief mention of liquor but in a good way (you'll see), mention of prostitution, mentions of gambling, reader being in danger (kinda in the background for right now), mention of touch aversion
Genre: pretty fluffy but a lil argument happens
Author's Note: we are back to the present for kaz and reader :)) i had a hard time writing this one so shoutout to @b3kk3r-by-br3kk3r for helping me through my writer's block. ALSO, requests are coming, so if the next part of this takes a minute, that's why! happy reading loves!
You kept your head ducked as you hurried down the East Stave. Cold air gusted off the canal, chilling passersby and making you pull your collar higher up around your neck. You had your head covered by one of Kaz's hats and wore one of Inej's coats. It didn't fit properly, and you felt horrible asking to borrow it in this weather when you had your own perfectly suitable coat to wear. But it served your purposes for this errand, which required passing the Kaelish Prince and the Emerald Palace on your way to the Lid.
The heady cloud of dusk descended over the city, and the Barrel began to stir as daylight faded. You slipped through the beginning bustle of the main avenue along the East Stave, for once grateful for the crowds. It was easier to go unnoticed at night; Kaz would have preferred for you to make this trip during the day for fear of someone mistaking you for someone lost in the Barrel and trying their hand at harming you, but that was precisely the mistake you were hoping the Dime Lions would make as you passed right through the heart of their territory.
You held your breath as you moved past the shouter that beckoned men toward the Emerald Palace to try their luck with the cards and the prostitutes waiting inside. His gaze passed right over you, moving to someone else who looked more likely to hand over their kruge. Perfect.
Once the Emerald Palace was a few blocks behind you, concealed by the tangle of Ketterdam's streets, you allowed yourself to catch your breath. It had been three months since the Dime Lions learned of your relationship with Kaz, and you were still on high alert. No attempts had been made to steal you from your bed or ambush you on a job, and that made you uneasy. Pekka Rollins didn't wait aimlessly. He had to be planning something, but Inej had been unable to find any indication of what it was.
You were relatively at ease as you made the rest of the trek to the Lid and arrived at your destination just minutes before a bell across the Barrel rang seven times.
You slipped into the cramped shop. The scent of sugar and honey greeted you, followed by the tang of freshly-cut fruits. You inhaled deeply, reminded of when your mother would bake for birthdays when your family could afford it. It was a comforting smell, settling over you like a warm blanket on a crisp winter evening. You remembered why you were here and let yourself smile as you moved to the counter.
Five minutes later, you stepped back out onto the grimy streets. This time, you felt a set of eyes on you. As you slipped the packet of goods into the inner pocket of your coat, your eyes swept the street until they settled on a familiar figure standing under a streetlamp. With no hat and the collar of his overcoat pulled up around his neck to combat the cold, Kaz looked significantly unhappy to be there.
Unbelievable.
You moved over to him and crossed your arms. Normally, you wouldn't mind him following you; he was Kaz, after all, but you were hoping he would refrain from being Kaz just for today. "Shouldn't you be at the Club?" you said, accusation in your voice. "Not following me across the Barrel?"
"I could ask you the same," Kaz said, shifting his cane into his left hand and examining you. Once he decided you appeared unharmed, he raised a brow. "Decided to go on a nighttime stroll, did you?" He seemed less than impressed with your trip across the city. You knew he wouldn't be. However, you had planned for him to find out later once you'd surprised him with the pastries in your pocket, and he was too busy enjoying them to be angry.
"I'm not unarmed." You lifted your chin and met his gaze. "And I had an errand that couldn't wait." You turned and started to walk back in the direction you'd come. Kaz huffed behind you and followed. With his stupid long legs, he caught up quickly and infuriated you more. First, he ruined your surprise. Then, he dared to try and lecture you on the street.
"For sweets?" Kaz pressed. He limped alongside you and gave you a look of clear annoyance. "Someone could have seen you."
"Hence the disguise." You gestured to the hat on your head and Inej's jacket. It wasn't as if you'd been particularly reckless. You'd taken necessary precautions, and if it weren't for him, you'd have been able to get to the shop and back undetected. Kaz was practically a neon sign with how he attracted attention from gangsters and non-gangsters alike, and you could predict the turning of heads as you tried to walk back down the East Stave with him next to you.
You made a frustrated noise and took a sharp right onto the first street off the East Stave, long before Dime Lions' territory came into view.
"It's not a very good one," Kaz said under his breath as he followed you.
You stopped in the middle of the street and whirled to face him. "It was until you decided to show up and give me away," you hissed. "Didn't we agree to avoid being seen together? That's why we take turns going on jobs." It was an agreement you despised but one Kaz thought necessary to make it harder for the Dime Lions to strike.
Kaz's jaw clenched, and he leaned heavily on his cane. His leg ached after trailing you across the Barrel, and you almost softened when you noticed his discomfort. Almost. Instead, you forced yourself to temporarily ignore your concern until you had sufficiently vented your frustration.
"You weren't at the Slat, and nobody had seen you. You understand how that looks," Kaz said. A look of worry crossed his face, an expression he would let only you see, and your irritation wavered.
He had a point, and you hated it.
You took a deep breath and then gradually let it out. Once you felt calmer (and guiltier) than you had five seconds ago, you spoke. "I would have left a note," you said slowly. "But that would've defeated the purpose." You couldn't hide your surprise for him anymore, and the guilt of worrying him was eating at you.
Kaz's eyes narrowed. "What purpose?"
You sighed and produced the packet of pastries from your pocket. Two round apple tarts were carefully wrapped in crinkly paper and slipped into a pouch for safe travel. You stepped closer, so your words would be just between the two of you rather than shared with the people walking to get to the East Stave. "I got you these," you said softly. "Because it's your birthday, and I wanted to surprise you with something nice. I didn't mean to worry you."
Kaz's brows furrowed like he was thinking about how best to pull off an outlandish plan. It was a look you recognized well, but it seemed out of place right then.
"What is it?" you asked, looking up at him as your own brows came together. You didn't think you said anything confusing, but Kaz's mind worked in mysterious ways.
"It's my birthday," Kaz muttered, almost in disbelief. "I forgot."
"You forgot your birthday?"
Strangely, you weren't surprised. Kaz had a lot to deal with, from managing the Crow Club to planning the next elaborate heist to make you all rich.
Sadness twisted in your stomach. Kaz deserved to celebrate his birthday. Everyone did. But in this city that birthed and forged new people and then rendered most poor and hopeless, you knew birthdays meant nothing. Even though your parents had saved money for the ingredients to make you a birthday treat some years, that didn't mean everyone's parents had. You were one of the lucky ones.
Kaz looked down at his gloved hands with the ghost of a frown on his face. "Let's get back to the Slat," he said, not confirming or denying your question. A typical Kaz response when he was lost in thought.
He started to walk, and you let him lead the way, sliding the pastries back into the inner pocket of your borrowed coat. You knew he'd appreciate the peace of mind of knowing that you weren't crossing directly through Dime Lions' territory again, not that you had planned to do so on your way back. Pressing your luck a second time wasn't a good idea. Ketterdam was only so generous with her residents.
Kaz led you back to the Slat and then beckoned for you to follow him to his room. You did as he asked, trailing after him and removing your hat and coat so that you could return them to their respective owners. Once within the safe confines of his room, you blew a warm breath into your freezing hands and set the pastries you'd gotten for him on the tiny, leaning table shoved next to his bed.
"You went across the Barrel to get pastries for my birthday that I didn't remember?" Kaz asked as he shed his coat and gloves. He unbuttoned his vest and rolled up his sleeves before settling on the edge of his bed and looking up at you. He watched you fumble with the wrapping on the tarts before giving up with a dramatic sigh.
"Yes. And I'm sorry for worrying you, too. I wanted to surprise you, but I didn't realize," you flicked Kaz's ear, making him swat your hand away, "that you were following me. You ruined your own gift." You'd saved up a couple of months' wages for it, too. It was near impossible to get baked goods in Kerch during the winter when thick ice in the harbor made it difficult for cargo ships to dock, so the shops hiked up their prices even more than usual in response.
"How was I supposed to know it was for me? You didn't leave a note." He flicked you back, and the corners of his lips quirked up in amusement. The exasperation on your face made him want to laugh, an urge he hadn't felt in a long time. But the feeling disappeared as quickly as it had arrived when he noticed the nervous twitch of your hands. "I know you can handle yourself," he said quietly. A lump formed in his throat so suddenly that he nearly choked on it, as it did every time he tried to admit anything he was feeling to you. He shoved it away like he'd practiced. "I got worried."
"They've been too quiet," you said softly. "I understand. I'm sorry for worrying you." You settled next to him and pulled one of his hands into both of yours, clasping it tightly to keep your own still. Your unease mirrored his own, an ever-present cloak that had embraced you both since the Dime Lions learned of your relationship.
You looked up at him and saw regret flickering deep in his blue eyes. The amusement there just moments ago was gone, replaced by the doubt that you knew haunted him, even if he would never admit it to you.
You shook your head. "Don't do that. Don't doubt this now."
He nodded slowly, pondering your words. Every day, he feared you would wake up and decide he wasn't worth the risk. When you chose to join the Dregs, you didn't choose a life of hiding and running from the Dime Lions. Kaz had promised you relative security, money, and vengeance, as long as you joined the Dregs. Now, all he could definitively offer was the last.
"Kaz." You tightened your grip on his hand as his mind started to go elsewhere. What you would give to have insight into what he was thinking, where his thoughts pulled him that was so far from you. "I'm not going anywhere," you said firmly as his icy blue gaze focused on you again. "You remember what I told you?
You loved him, whole, bruised and scarred. Of course, he remembered that. He thought about it every single day. It lingered around him, muddling his psyche like a liquor he wished to drink forever. Sometimes, the same words would linger on his tongue, begging to be returned to you. As he lay in bed at night, unable to sleep, he would imagine how you would light up if he said them. You would smile so brightly that his heart would ache, and maybe you would kiss him if you were any other couple.
But you weren't any other couple. Kaz was certainly scarred, and he fought to heal those wounds every day. You had been through your own share, though perhaps your scars were less visible. Or maybe you were simply better at hiding him than he was, masking them with smiles and easing their pain with revenge. The two of you would never be able to be effortlessly affectionate like Wylan and Jesper, so Kaz relished in the touches he could allow.
"I remember," Kaz finally said, realizing he'd drifted back into his thoughts for too long again. You were looking at him, your brow creased with worry, and he turned his hand to lace his fingers with yours. "I remember," he said again, softer this time. Another meaning laced his words so faintly that you almost didn't catch it. So close to those three words you'd murmured to him, that assurance and a promise wrapped into a gift Kaz never thought he would get. He only wished he could return the same sentiment, exactly how you had offered it to him. Unconditionally and truthfully.
But not yet.
You smiled at him as if he had said those three words, and your face heated with a blush. You looked down at your intertwined hands and gave his a soft squeeze as if to tell him you understood what he wanted to say. "Happy birthday, Kaz," you said softly. You took the pouch of tarts and offered it to him. "Shall we?"
Kaz's lips turned up at one corner as he took the pastries from you. "Thank you," he said. He opened the pouch of pastries and handed one to you before taking one for himself.
In the cool, comfortable darkness of Kaz's room, safe from prying eyes and a plotting gang leader that threatened you both, you wished you could freeze time and remain there forever. With the taste of apple on your tongue, you allowed yourself to imagine that half the city wasn't after you and that you and Kaz were nothing more than two teenagers celebrating a birthday. There were no Dime Lions, no Dregs, no gambling halls or crumbling city buildings.
Nothing else existed but the peace of that moment and the feeling of Kaz's arm hesitantly slipping around your shoulders and pulling you into him in a gesture of thanks that made your heart beat a million times faster.
There was nothing but the two of you, and you wanted nothing more for that to be true.

What do you think was Kaz's reasoning for getting the "R" tattoo? Was he really worried that he would forget Jordie and being a Rietveld after becoming Brekker when Jordie was his whole motivation for so long? Or was it more in memory of his brother? Or like a memorial to his old self? I also wonder a lot when he got it, right away or later? Sorry if this is random, just it's been on my mind lately and you have good takes on SoC so I thought I'd ask.
Hey, thanks for the ask! Aw, you flatter me lol.
I have to admit I never really thought too hard about it, so if someone has a more nuanced take, feel free to sound off. At the end of the day, it's never really explored, so it's all up to speculation.
I think a reminder of his motivation would be a Very Kaz reason for getting the tattoo, but idk if that's my preferred answer. I would also accept a memorial to his old self and old life, but I'd definitely think of it as a more of a memorial in a "grave marker for the boy who died, as I am the creature who stole his corpse," kinda way, rather than with the sentimentality one usually thinks of when they hear the word "memorial."
Although, one could argue that it was done with more sentimentality than Kaz would like to admit, and that is one of the reasons why Kaz never really goes into it in his POV, as he doesn't like to acknowledge anything good or soft about himself, even in his own mind. I for one, find it interesting that Kaz talks so much about destroying the Rietveld boy and snuffing out his traces, but has decided to keep a part of him on his skin, forever.

The Phoenix and the Crow
part twenty-three
pairing: kaz brekker x fem!reader
genre: neutral, kinda sorta fluff
el's thoughts: finally some one on one interaction with kaz and y/n! and a lil surprise at the end hehe
series masterlist
It took two days after she emerged from the surgeon’s cabin for Kaz to make himself approach Y/N. She was sitting by herself, legs crossed, back to the hull of the ship, sipping a cup of tea. The view before him reminded him of their last conversation on a ship.
Y/N turned to look up at him as he leaned on the railing beside her. The silence that settled over them wasn’t heavy as Kaz wracked his mind for something to say.
“The Darkling. That’s who I saw.” Her voice almost startled him as he realized what she was sharing. “Reminding me of everything I could never have despite my childish wishes and dreams.”
“From where we stood it looked like he reminded you just how powerful you are as well,” said Kaz.
She shook her head, “He reminded me of the monster he made me.”
“The Phoenix is hardly viewed as a monster. From what I’ve heard you’re just as much a Saint as the sun summoner. The most powerful inferni to walk the earth.” Kaz couldn’t brign h imsefl to look at her as he spoke, only kept his eyes trained on the sea below them.
“Yeah, but I don’t want to be known as powerful because of my gift or- or because of the Darkling, or because of fear. I… I want to be powerful because I moved forward despite the odds. If people were to fear me, I want them to fear the name I built for myself.” She squeezed the rail under her hand. “I envy you for that reason… if I were to speak honestly.”
It still confused him how anyone could be jealous of the life he built himself. Yet alone how Y/N L/N ex-Lieutenant General of the second army. She lived in a palace with full meals everyday and nice clothes on her back. How could she be jealous of a barrel rat who was a scavanger of food most of his youth.
Kaz tilted his head as if to dump his thoughts out as he limped over to her. “I want to show you something.”
“I’m well, thank you for asking,” she said, looking up at him. “How are you?”
He felt his lips twist. “Splendid.” Awkwardly, he lowered himself down beside her and set aside his cane.
“Is your leg bad?”
“It’s fine. Here.” He spread Wylan’s drawing of the prison sctor between tem. Most of Wylan’s plans showed the Ice Court from above, but the prison elevation was a side view, a cross section showing the building’s floors stacked on top of one another.
“I’ve seen it.” Y/N said. She ran her finger from the basement up to the roof in a straight line. Six stories up a chimney.”
“Can you do it?”
“I’m a heavy footed soldier, not your Wraith. Is there another option?”
“No.”
“So if I say I can’t make the climb, will you tell Spect to turn the boat around and take us back to Ketterdam?”
“I’ll find another option,” said Kaz. “I don’t know what, but I’m not giving up on that haul.”
“You know I’ll at least try it, Kaz, and you know I’m not going to refuse. I’ll find a way to get us out of there. So why ask?”
‘Because I’ve been looking for an excuse to talk to you for two days.’
“I want to make sure you know what you’ll be dealing with and that you’re studying the plans.”
“Will there be a test?”
“Yes,” said Kaz. “If you fail, we’ll all end up stuck inside a Fjerdan prison.”
“Mmm,” she said and took a sip of her tea. “And I’ll end up dead one way or another.” She closed her eyes and leaned her head back against the hull. “I’m worried about the escape route to the harbor. I don’t like that there’s only one way out.”
Kaz settled back against the hull, too. “Me neither,” he conceded, stretching out his bad leg. “But that’s why the Fjerdan’s built it that way.”
“Do you trust Specht?
Kaz cast her a sideways glance. “Is there a reason I shouldn’t?”
“I’m not one in a place to judge your crew, Brekker, but if the Ferolind isn’t waiting for us in the harbor…”
“I trust him enough.” He could feel her staring at the side of his face. He didn’t turn to look at her while he willed himself to keep his breathing even and his face to heat up.
“He owes you then?”
Kaz nodded. He glanced around then said, “The navy threw him out for insubordinstion and refused him his pension. He has a sister to support near Belendt. I got him his money.”
“That was good of you.”
Kaz felt his eyes narrow. “I’m not some character out of a children’s story who plays harmless pranks and steals from teh rich to give to the poor. There was money to be made and information to be had. Specht knows the navy’s routes like the back of his hand.”
“Never something for nothing, Kaz,” she said, her gaze steady. “I know. Still, if the Ferolind is intercepted, we’ll have no way out of Djerholm.”
“I’ll get us out. You know that.”
‘Tell me you know that.’ He needed her to say it. This job wasn’t like anything he’d attempted before. Every doubt she’d raised was a legitimate one, and only echoed the fears in his own head. He’d snapped at her before they’d left Ketterdam, told her he’d be able to replace her is she didn’t think he could pull it off. He needed to know that she believed he could do this, that he could take them into the Ice Court and bring them out feeling whole and righteous the way he’d done with the other crews on jobs. He needed to know she believed in him.
“I trust you, Kaz,” she said as she ran her finger over the rim of her cup. “I hear Pekka Rollins was the one gunning for us in the harbor.”
“So?”
“Don’t think I’ve forgotten your personal tiff with him.”
“He’s just another boss, one more Barrel thug.”
“Kaz Brekker, don’t you start lying to me now.”
Later, he wasn’t sure why he’d said it. He’d never told anyone, never spoken the words aloud. But now Kaz kept his eyes on the sails above them and said, “Pekka Rollins killed my brother.”
He didn’t have to see Y/N’s face to sense her shock. “You had a brother?”
“I had a lot of things,” he muttered.
“I’m sorry.” He saw her stretch her hand out to him then quickly pull it back. “I know what it’s like to lose a brother. I can promise you that Pekka will get the suffering he deserves.”
Had he wanted her sympathy? Was that why he’d told her?
“I’ll pray for him,” Y/N said. “For peace in the next world if not in this one.”
He turned his head. They were sitting close together, their shoulders were touching. He stared into the deep y/e/c of her eyes and noticed that once again her hair was down. She typically wore it tied back in a messy coil. Even the idea of being this near to someone should have set his skin crawling. Instead he thought, ‘What happens if I move closer?’
“I don’t want your prayers.”
Y/N swallowed hard before speaking, “I know this won’t mean much to you… but I pray for him. For the person who you once were. And you.”
“I don’t want your prayers.”
“What do you want then?”
The old answers came easily back to mind. Money. Vengeance. Jordie’s voice in my head silenced forever. But a different reply roared to life inside him, loud, insistent, and unwelcome. ‘You, Y/N. You.’
He shrugged and turned away. “To die buried under the weight of my own gold.”
“Again,” Y/N sighed. “Then I’ll pray you get all you ask for.”
“More prayers?” he asked. “And what do you want, L/N?”
He could almost hear her mind racing and he couldn’t help but hope the same thoughts were running through her head as it did his.
“To turn my back on Ketterdam and never hear that name again. It’s only brought me troubles.”
‘Good.’ He’d finally be rid of this distraction.
“Your four million kruge can grant that wish.” He pushed to his feet. “Save your prayers for good weather and stupid guards. Just leave me out of it.”
He could hear her faint call of his name but ignored it and continued to walk belowdeck. He needed to get away from the overwhelming feeling of her.
~
By the time they bid their goodbyes to the ship’s crew, the sky had turned from pink to gold.
“See you in Djerholm harbor,” called Specht. “No mouners.”
“No funerals.” Y/N suprised herself when she called the reply back. She really had spent too much time with these people.
The group began their hike from the rocky shore up the cliff side, but Y/N waited behind with her eyes trained on the horizon. No one else had picked up on her absence yet and she was grateful.
She only had to stay a few minutes longer before the familiar sails of the Volkvolny came into view. A warm wave of relief and hope washed over her as she saw the familiar figure of her leading hope.
Inej Ghafa walked off the ship and quickly made her way to the inferni’s side, wrapping the pair wrapping their arms around each other.
“Saint’s, Inej.” Y/N chuckled. “Thank you.”
“Always.” The Suli girl smiled kindly. “Now, catch me up.”
Y/N and Inej spent their hike catching each other up on all their affairs, but the majority was talking about the plans for this heist.
“Climbing six floors up a chimney?”
“Yeah… You think you can do it?”
“Of course I can.”
The two girls saw the group of five up ahead and sped up their pace. Once they caught up Nina and Jesper rushed to embrace Inej in a suffocating hug. Y/N felt Kaz’s eyes burning holes in the side of her face but chose to ignore him.
“How did you make it here?” asked Jesper.
“I sent a letter back home,” Y/N spoke up. “And just to my luck, Stumhound and his crew had docked back at the palace.”
Kaz stepped forward. “You didn’t think to tell me this?”
“You didn’t think to tell me about Van Eck?” She challenged. “I thought it through, Inej would make the climb. I told you I had it handled.”
“You just added one extra member to our crew. That changes everything.”
“Don’t make it bigger than it is, Kaz. It only changes the part of us getting in. Once we get past that, everything else will fall into place.”
“You undermined me.”
“You hid the truth from me.”
The rest of the group backed away slowly, giving the two a bit more space and none of them wanted to get involved.
Y/N took a deep breath, the cold air stinging her lungs and throat. “Kaz, I brought more help. Take it or leave it.”
Kaz stared at her for a long moment, multiple emotions fluttering through his eyes. He hummed to himself and turned around to keep walking.
“Saints,” said Inej. “We’re actually doing this.”
“I’ve spent every minute of every miserable day wishing to be off that ship,” said Jesper. “So why do I suddenly miss it?
Wylan stamped his boots. “Maybe because it already feels like our feet are going to freeze off.”
“When we get out money, you can burn kruge to keep you warm,” said Kaz. “Let’s go.” He’d left his crow’s head cane aboard the Ferolind and substituted a less conspicuous walking stick. Jesper had mournfully left behind his prized pearl-handled revolvers in favor of a pair of unor-namented guns.
Jesper consulted his compass, and they turned south, seeking a path that would lead them to the main trading road. “I’m going to pay someone to burn my kruge for me.”
Kaz fell into step beside him. “Why don’t you pay someone else to pay someone to burn your kurge for you? That’s what the big players do.”
“You know what the really big bosses do? They pay someone to pay someone to…”
Their voices trailed off as they tramped ahead, and Y/N and the others followed after.

hold on. You read books!? Sorry that was worded stupid. But i have some book recommendations for you! If you havent already, i recomend readding Six of Crows and its sequel Crooked Kingdom! You kinda remind me of a mix of two characters, the two being Kaz and Jesper!
Surprise kid: I'm literate!
And thanks for the rec. I'll check it out. You aren't the first person to say I'm like kaz actually. This is due to my hatred of touching other people with my hands and the fact that wash my hands a lot.
Hygiene is cool, kids.

Imagine Kaz' father never died.
Him and Jordie grew up on the farm, and when he's old enough (15 because at that age Jesper was sent there), Jordie was sent to Ketterdam to study, but he lost his money due to a con. So he needs to go back not even a year later. They work on the farm and get the lost money back very slowly. 12 year-old Kaz is angry at Ketterdam for what happened to his brother, but he's like "from what Jordie told me, it could have been worse" (gang life, gambling addiction, plague...).
Kaz grew up to be smart and hard working but feels kinda lost because the farm life doesn't promote him mentally. One day, when he's about 14, he's got an accident whilst working and breaks his leg, which doesn't heal properly, so he needs a cane as a walking aid. He gets bullied for being a kripple, but he doesn't take shit and that leads to fights, so Kaz learns how to defend himself and even use his cane as a weapon. Soon the boys of Lij avoid him because they know they don't stand a chance against him, especially if Jordie (who is about 18 now) helps him.
Kaz obviously can't do lots of the heavy farm work now because of his (miror) disability but still does as much as he can bear and does more of the indoors work like taxes and stuff. They find out he's talented with numbers and finances and so on and the people in Lij say he's smart and that he could make it in the city and now that the Rietveld family has saved enough money they sent 15 year-old Kaz to Ketterdam where he studies economics and law.
Kaz is ambitious and prepared for what could happen, like cons and gang violence, and informs himself about how the city works before he really steps outside his student dorm. He knows all the important gangs, politicians and merchants. Kaz tries to find out how the schemes and cons work to avoid them. He basically memorises a map of Ketterdam so he knows the routes. He is aware that the Barrel isn't shut down because of it's economical benefit.
When he gets out of his dorm, he makes a friend, a fellow student named Jesper Fahey, who's a bit annoying and has a bit of a crush on Kaz and is a bad student. They bonded because they got attacked by criminals who wanted to mug them, but Kaz and Jes fought them off and saved each others asses. The cane breaks but they get him a new one that's a lot fancier and better suited for Barrel fights. Kaz learns how to play the games and how to count cards (but never uses this ability because he knows what would happen if he'd ever get caught) when he accompanies Jesper to watch that he doesn't loose all of his money. They keep each other safe. Kaz also made it a challenge for himself to find out the tricks of the street magicians.
Kaz is the best student of his economics class. He is the kind of guy who dresses for the job he wants so he wears lots of black and other dark colours to imitate the merchants but not to come off as mocking them. He is able to make an internship at a big merchers company. Kaz gets that the system is corrupt but he also gets that he can make that work in his favour. He pulls a few strings from the background (so you can't trace it back to him) which sets a chain reaction in motion that leads to the merchant being arrested for human trafficing and Kaz earning money because he made some very smart investments knowing what's coming. But without knowing, this actions lead to certain slavers lying low for a bit, long enough that the Suli wagons of a 14 year-old girl and her family no longer camp at the coast and said girl never gets abducted.
One time, when they're about 17, Jesper escapes Kaz' watching eye and goes to a club on the outskirts of the Barrel but while he tries to hide from Kaz who already searches for him, Jesper bumps into a 16 year-old boy, looking like a lost prince if he weren't soaking wet. When Kaz sees them talk he's like "wait you remind me of someone" because he studied all the merchants and because of his internship he got a glance at Van Eck, so he recognizes Wylan as his son. He knows somethings not right and desides to take him in, one of the reasons being him knowing that no one did Jordie that favour.
The years of abuse made Wylan a good liar so he makes some story up about how he wanted independece and was mugged while he was trying to get out of Ketterdam. Jesper believes him but Kaz has some doubts, like why not go back? Kaz former roommate, who studied maths and chemistry, forgot a book and that's how he finds out that Wylan is a scientific genius when he sees a mistake in one of the equations.
They hire a gambling acquaintance of Jesper to fake some papers for Wylan Hendricks and make him able study music, chemistry and physics in Ketterdam. They afford all that with the money Kaz had put aside from his previous investment. Kaz now says that he invested in Wylans potential and that he owes him a certain percentage of what he'll earn after he's got his degree and that Kaz will get exclusive rights to use some of his future patents. Wylan had to admit that he can't read so Jesper (who also wants to be a part of the deal Kaz made with Wylan because Jes knows that Kaz has a superior buisness sense) is hired to read stuff for Wylan and help him graduate, that's where they start to fall in love.
But Wylan gets all of those letters and Kaz knows that Van Eck won't leave his son alone and that Wylan is still in danger unless he signs a contract which states that he doesn't want Van Ecks money or name or position at the council or even being associated with him and that he won't talk about the attempted murder. Kaz as a law student drafts the contract but obviously he hid some kind of loophole and Van Eck and his son sign. Van Eck is impressed by how smart Kaz is and even offers him an internship but Kaz doesn't trust Van Eck so he doesn't take it.
Jordie, their dad and Colm visit the three of them from time to time. One time, Jordie proposes that his little brother and him could go visit Ravka during the semester vacation since the fold has been destroyed for a few years now. He has a hard time convincing Kaz but when he said that this could be a good chance to do some networking with people in East-Ravka to which there was hardly any connection because of the fold, Kaz is all in.
One summer evening in Ravka, they go to a Suli acrobats show and Kaz sees this tiderope walker named Inej, who is just the most beautiful girl he's ever seen. He meets her after the show and because he is an idiot who doesn't know what to say to her, he says dead serious in a buisness tone and heavy Kerch accent: "It's smart to let them think you're about to fall, keeps them engaged in what happens." She just laughs and answers "You noticed?" and Kaz doesn't know what to do next, so he just nods and stands there. Jordie makes fun of him for having a crush on her and teases him about how easily she made him forget all those numbers. Kaz goes on to meet the Suli girl again and shows her some of the magic tricks he learned. They talk and they decide to be pen pals.
That's what I have for now, don't know if I'm ever going to write more of this alternate timeline.

World Building Pt 2: Timeline
So I've done some calculations based on characters B-days and the shows dates and this is the timeline for the fic I've come up with. The years represent when these things take place in the world as I believe each season takes up roughly a year. Reminder I accept any feedback and ideas offered <3.
We are gonna start off with the first of the series which is: Lab Rats S1. The first season takes place in 2012, and it is quickly followed by LR S2 and The Thundermans S1 in 2013.
Mighty Med S1, Thundermans S2, Henry Danger S1 and LR S3 take place in 2014. This is also when Bionics are revealed to the world(if you read World Building pt1 you'll remember that Bionics are completely different than superpowers, but the general populations reaction to the Bionics sets up for the Supers reveal).
2015 is when shit starts heating up. Not only do we have Lab Rats S4 and Mighty Med S2(Mighty Med vs Lab Rats), but we also have Thundermans S3 and Henry Danger S2(Danger vs Thunder). 2015 is also when Supers are revealed to the world(chaos ensues).
In 2016 we deal with the fallout of the reveal with MM S3, Thundermans S4 and Henry Danger S3(theres a lot less drama for them because I firmly believe that the citizens of Swellview are kinda funky and already knew. It was kinda an open secret for them). I have some ideas on MM S3 but more suggestions are welcome. My current ideas are:
Kaz and Oliver discover their powers and try to adapt to them
The world panics over the existence of Supers and the Supers PR team was NOT prepped for this
Rodissius, got heavily injured during a battle and was evacuated to the Mighty Med Hospital. Oliver and Kaz managed to keep him alive, but they had to extract his powers, making him powerless.
Bridget/Mr. Terror gets imprisoned and her empire dismantled
Mighty Med Hospital gets destroyed :(
2017 is HD S4 and Lab Rats: Elite Force S1(don't worry I will fix it)
2018 brings us HD S5 and LR:EF S2. My current ideas for this are(not in any order):
Citywide war between Bionics/Supers and Shifters. This also includes outside conflict with the EF team and the rest of the Super community
Rodissius and his children eventually get defeated and imprisoned
Power Vacuum and Crimewave ensue due to the citywide war
The Island Crew(Adam, Leo, Marcus(yes he's alive and got a redemption arc), and Daniel) show up every now and again as the training has slowed down.
In 2019 we have Elite Force S3(I don't have solid plans for this yet I just know I want it to happen), Henry Danger S6(Team Danger adapting to life in Dystopia), and The Thundermans Return(yes its the movie but better).
2020-2024 is mostly the New Gen of Supers with Danger Force and Villains of Valley View taking center stage. We will obviously still be getting cameos and content on what the rest are up to but the Kiddos need their time to shine.
Let me know what y'all think and if you have any ideas to add on to this!
