Obijime (帯締め). The fuschia color braided cord that you can see tied around the obi belt is believed to have its roots in the Japanese era, Bunka (1804 – 1818) when a famous Kabuki actor used a cord over his obi belt so that his kimono would not become unraveled. It became popular among women and they began imitating it and because of its convenience it became a fixture among the common people as a "obi belt closure". Traditionally an obijime is not used for a yukata, however in recent years there has been an increase in using the obi jime even with a yukata.
