Still peaking in the smoldering afterglow of @chrisbenchetler ‘s new film, “Fire On The Mountain” which had it’s world premiere exhibition happening here in NYC @worldofmcintosh. I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with Chris & @rob_machado for this zeitgeist, a ripple effect powered by love. Chris & Rob each resonate with the subculture to which they are continually breaking the boundaries of. The shared ethos of which runs deep within counterculture beliefs & my own work. These compositions were created within a soundtrack that speaks to the spirit of reactionary movement, widespread genericide, free of mainstream noise. Fire On The Mountain is Benchetler’s vision in film that brings a dream landscape to reality, a ballet for the afterlife in all of Mother Nature’s splendour, with the merry characters who toy with her laws....drowned in laughter & Dead to the core. . Great Minds Think Alike :: 35mm . #getoutoftownvibe . I’ve been fortunate enough to have a few aha moments in my life... here’s one of them. . My last shift at @baldfacelodge was with the @burtonsnowboards team in April. The conditions were great, but that’s not the point. . My crew in the cat this day was a living, breathing representation of multiple generations of women in snowboarding, from inception to now. The lineup that day... @donnacarpenter and @oliviaa.kelly, who shared stories of Jake and Craig from early days pioneering the sport and the people along the way who believed this snowboard thing could really work. @thekellyclark (a girl boosting so high out of the pipe in the 2000s it was impossible to not notice) and @kimmyfasani (a woman beyond snowboarding, setting the bar then AND now for what it means to be strong, resilient, and courageous). Strapping in, we also had the next generation scoping the slope, @zoisynnott, @tessamaud_, @yukikadono, and @annagassersnow. The progression and creativity they’ve brought to this sport is beyond genders. . I was waiting to drop into lines with the full generational suite of females within snowboarding who I’ve admired since I started strapping in. It clicked this trip. With snowboarding, I feel a part of something; a belonging I never imagined... and I am humbled to be here. . Snowboarding isn’t all that old, which can feel surprising at times given the cultural impact it has. A sport, sure, but an identity and connective thread, more importantly. I didn’t know how much snowboarding would impact and direct my life when I started standing sideways in 1998... but I’m so glad it did. . Thank you, Snowboarding. It’s a pleasure to be here. . . Svalbard in PRINT . #getoutoftownvibe . This past May a crew of us spent a week together aboard a sailboat in the northern fjords of Svalbard with @burtonsnowboards. Being a part of this adventure was wild in itself, even before they asked me to write about the journey with this insanely stacked crew. Continuing the mouth agape feeling - seeing the story come together showcased in @whitelines_snowboarding_mag issue 121 with the photos @deanblottogray captured has me feeling all the feelings. Thank you for encouraging me to put down the paintbrush and pick up a pen for this story! . This was an adventure I’ll never put to bed. Thank you to @zacharynigro for manifesting the mission, @tahoetodd and @steinretzlaff for showing us the ropes, @albertmarroi and @hallanpuravida for keeping us smooth sailing (plus the bonus week aboard the Valiente!), @jbuffery for the mentorship, @myshellparker @kimmyfasani @chrisbenchetler and @travelindan for the laughs around the galley and laps around couloir land, @deanblottogray, @justineeles, and @tylerjhamlet for capturing the memories and keeping the vibe high, and baby Koa for being the cutest little human north of 78 degrees and not minding having to sleep in the bathroom.
