Because I'm trying to do more writing things on the writing blog--you didn't get me kind of noodling on the parallels and mirroring going on in BNHA with Shouto and in Avatar: the Last Airbender with Zuko.

Nope... def wasn't getting all those vibes... at all.

So what if Shouto is the reincarnation of Zuko?

Shouto is said to be a child of fire and ice, but in his dreams, all he sees is fire.  In his dreams, there is fire and battleships, metal, and war. There is training. Even though he’s small, Shouto somehow knows that this training in his dreams, it’s different from the training his father puts him through.  Though another father looms over him. Angry. Demanding. Disappointed.  But burning black eyes, not fire-bright blue. When he wakes up, Shouto looks in the mirror and wonders if the dark eye he sees is from the him in his dreams, not his mom.

Doing this in little 100-word snippets ('cause I do not want this to end up being a really long fic), but here's the first one.

So I spammed all that amazing GriffGuts fanart that is so fluffy and it made my writer wheels start turning.

Now I want to write a reincarnation AU where memories of their previous lives start to come back when they start dating, because the angst and horror and guilt would be delicious.

Brutally is Complete!

Time for a new DabiShou longfic to get added to the docket.

So I have two potential DabiShou longfics (though these should be of the 40-50k variety not the 85k variety) in the wings and because keeping myself posting weekly seems to have been good for me, I'm going to leave it to my lovely readers to help me decide which one to pull up next. Both of these are endgame DabiShou.

Our Contenders:

I Didn't Know Where Else to Go: Escaped villain Dabi, Medic Shouto, found family (Shouto is adopting a little girl, so kidfic), slow burn falling in love. The smut will get in there sooner or later, but it will be down the road.

Tundra: Hero Dabi, Vigilante Shouto, identity porn. Genderbending Shouto (his civilian idenity is a female). They start sleeping together before realizing they're brothers. Shouto's vigilante name is Tundra. This is more porn with plot.

Tundra. Your last report said you talked to him?" Not sure where this is going, Dabi nods. "Why?" Sighing, Fatgum says, "So far, his track record with capturing villains with minimal muss and fuss and nearly no property damage has made him... potentially more valuable as a hero than as an object lesson." Dabi's no idiot. "You mean he's powerful enough that they don't want a showdown with him they may lose." Shaking his head, more as if he can't believe he's saying it than because he disagrees with Dabi's assessment, he says, "I mean they think he should be a top hero, and since he's yet to make a public scene or do anything that isn't otherwise by the books, they want to see if they can salvage him." Salvage is an interesting way to frame it. "And if they can't?" Dabi asks. It earns him a flat stare. "Talk to him. Try to make friends with him. If there's any chance we can make him a hero... we could certainly use him."

When I have to work on the next chapter of Tundra, and what I *really* want is to have Dabi and Shouto have car sex...

...only it makes absolutely zero sense for Dabi and Shouto to have car sex, especially because Dabi knows they're brothers (even if Shouto doesn't).

*sigh*

I think I just want more porn in my plot in general, but the plot is just not lining up in a way to allow that.

100 BNHA Fics Post to GEO

So I will admit to both being a little bit of a stats watcher (and cruncher on occasion) and someone who especially enjoys those little milestones. So I feel... so stupid for missing kind of a big one.

I posted a new fic tonight, and it's the 101st BNHA fic on GEO. How did I not notice that Decisions Not Mistakes was my 100th BNHA fic? How did I not notice that upcoming milestone?

At least it's fitting that it's a DabiShou fic. That feels on-brand. 😂

Anyway--throw me some prompts in the comments here. I'll pick a few and write a couple 666-word fics.

Sure, I'll play:

It's Rei's worst nightmare--Shouto cries and cries and cries, and can only be soothed by Touya. Touya, who wants nothing to do with his baby brother.

Enji refuses to tell the pediatrician that Shouto will calm for Touya. As if just refusing to acknowledge it will change anything, will change what has happened. But they don't tell anyone, Enji keeps Shouto separated from his siblings, and they all pretend what they know to be true isn't so.

Rei wishes she were surprised when she finds a five-year-old Shouto has climbed into his big brother's futon in the middle of the night. In sleep, with his guard down, Touya curls around Shouto with ease. Rei isn't sure she's seen either of them look so at peace.

It's a lie, however, and she wakes Shouto as she tugs him away from his brother. He cries as he wakes up without his brother there. Her heart breaks for them.

Not long after that, Shouto stops crying, but he doesn't stop wanting Touya. He frames it as if he just wants all of his siblings. Rei is not fooled.

Neither is Enji.

She lies and tells herself over and over and over that it's normal for siblings to be attached to one another.

Not like this.

Enji gets more brutal in his training, less forgiving than ever before. He yells and he fights with the children, and he hits them all when he's angry.

By the time Shouto is eight, she can't stand to look at him without seeing his father. When he is eight, she burns him. Not on purpose--she's immediately horrified-- but the damage is done. She and Shouto are both rushed to the hospital, and Shouto sobs for Touya.

And there, for the first time, they get the diagnosis from a nurse who sees Shouto begging for his brother.

"Why are you keeping him from his mate when he's so distressed?" she asks, obviously upset on Shouto's behalf.

Enji insists Shouto has no mate. Eight-year-olds don't have mates.

The nurse goes quiet as she understands.

"I see," she says softly. "I'll let the doctor know it's littermate syndrome."

Hearing the words spoken for the first time, put out into the world, her deepest, darkest fear.

Her most terribly held secret.

Something inside shatters.

Anyway--I guess I'm writing Tundra because I'm *itching* to keep working on rando side project, and I need to prioritize.

Thank god deadlines work well for me.

Year End Stats

Kinda.

So, I'm a brat and want to know when notifs go out, so I'm subscribed to myself. Since Ao3's stats are... uh, not great for the yearly breakdown they supposedly have (if you post a longfic across multiple years, the stats are counted in full for both years), so I can't see how many words I wrote easily...

But I could go back through all my notification emails, add up all the words, and find out 1) how many words I posted* for each account in 2023 and 2) how many times I posted. AngelSelene_Archived is not counted in this.

Uh, disclaimer: it's a lot. Also it's "how many words I posted" and not "how many I wrote" both because I had 3 longfics I posted this year that I have had written in significant part before this year (Surviving the Fire, Wildness in His Bones, and Brutally combined had well over 100k pre-written before I started posting). Anyway, that means it's not a true "how much did I write in 2023" but it's... uh, still impressive.

Stats beneath the cut:

So... GEO readers feasted this year (not a surprise since I finished Iron and Ichor). I may not have done Nano this year--my dayjob is retail adjacent, so November's always an iffy proposition anyway--but I did have 7 (SEVEN) months where I posted over 50k, and an eighth (Feb) where I just missed it.

Dramatic drop-off in Nov-Dec, which... look, IRL was not kind from Halloween on this year. Probably 20k of what was posted in those two months were pre-written.

What was the total word count? 611,305 words posted in 2023. AngelSelene got 208k, while GEO got a whopping 403k.

So... that's a lot.

And because that's a lot, I got curious about how often I posted.

Uh, spoiler alert: it's also a lot.

In case anyone's curious, final tallies were 73 times for AS, and 118 times for GEO, for a grand total of 191 times.

Guys, statistically speaking, I posted every other day last year between the two accounts. I had no idea I had posted that much. I also have no idea why so many of my wonderful readers don't unsubscribe when they realize how much I post. 😂

The actual numbers if anyone's curious:

I do not expect this year to be this nuts (not the least of which because I don't have over 100k of longfic drafts), but I'm def still recovering from the insanity of the end of the year, and it is absolutely impacting my desire to write.
