❛ ☾ ◟━ LOCATION: waterworks mall
❛ ☾ ◟━ TIME: noon
❛ ☾ ◟━ STATUS: closed for @nikhilxkohli
All Kimberly wanted to do was escape her past completely. However, she wasn't naive to the fact that anything could happen despite her move to Wilmington. Further to that, the probability of crossing paths with someone who knew her as Kimberly Soto would be slim, yet still considered a possibility. In this case she was at least blessed with a reunion of an old friend—Nikhil Kohli.
"Dyios ko, if I had known that you were going to be living here then I would have thrown you a whole ass welcome party!" exclaimed the heiress as she dragged Nik through the mall. Their mission today was to find some interior inspo for his upcoming move to Masonboro and if she's lucky, ideas for a house warming gift.
Pointing at some of the stores that displayed furniture, Kim then asked, "Any of those caught your eye?"

An overwhelming sense of gratitude and appreciation washed over Kimberly as she genuinely smiled and responded with a nod to Nikhil's supportive words. It was a nice reminder to know that despite leaving everything behind, she wasn't truly alone in the process. Therefore, it gave her a glimmer of hope that she'd be able to do this on her own and not have to fully fall back on the women she used to be. If she wanted to be here, then so be it. She'll deal with the repercussions later.
"Yeah...Yeah...It's getting a little sickening now that we're at that stage where of overly complimenting each other...Like eugh." Nudging Nik playfully, she then did a brief scan of the mall before pulling him into the direction she wanted. "Furniture can wait, l'm parched. Let's get some iced coffees and then we can resume the retail therapy. I actually want to get Asha something too, so please remind me about that later..."

“I would never walk out on you,” Nik told her with a reassuring smile because it was the truth. Every single thing Kimberly said was correct, not to mention he actually really adored her and letting her go would not be easy. “I am too nice but yeah they were just—not worth our time and attention anymore,” he chuckled with a grin and a nod, “you know me Kimmie, I’ve always got your back. Just like I know you’ve always got me.” He loved seeing that smile on her face because truly it made him feel like at least he’d done something right. Not to mention he loved knowing the way his friend was developing and bettering her life. It was important to her and so that made it important for him too.
“Okay I adore you, but Kimmie—stop calling me sweet, you’re ruining my reputation,” he chuckled with a teasing tone in his voice before nodding at her when she spoke about how much it would mean to him to have her there, supporting him and his team members at some of the various matches. “Okay good, no leaving and we’re going to be all fine,” he grinned before shaking his head at her again. “While I do enjoy inflating your ego from time to time, I genuinely meant this,” he told her before nodding at the stores around the mall, “now where should we go to next for this house furniture shopping?”

"Duh, who else would?" she rhetorically asked. "Besides, I'm irreplaceable. We've spent too much time together and had gone through the good and the bad that I can't risk you walking out on my life after everything we've been through." Not that it was going to happen. Their friendship was solid and coded in a way where they can go months without having to see each other and yet when they reunite, it's like things never change. "You're too nice, they were..." She stopped. "Actually never mind, I'll stick with what you said or else I'll get cancelled. But agreed, they were erratic...And it didn't help, that I was drunk and I kept laughing in front of their face. Your timing was on point when you pulled me out of that situation."
A gentle smile crept on her lips as her gaze softened, "It does make it easier." She thought she could live on her own, but as it turns out, she appreciated how she was able to be with those that knew her as Kimberly Soto and were respectful of her decision of coming to Wilmington on her own accord. "Yeah...Yeah...Let's manifest it into the universe.." Irza did have a positive rep with the people, so she wasn't too worried.
At the gesture of affection, the heiress leaned into Nik and chuckled at the praise, "You're too sweet, but I know how much it means to you and so it's a no brainer that I'd attend." Continuing their walk, she listened to her friend's response and felt relieved to know that he wasn't pushing on the matter. She wasn't sure if she'd be able to elaborate any further, no less in a crowded mall. Perhaps another time once she's able to actually reflect on it. "I don't plan on leaving any time soon." As she met Nik's gaze, Kimberly flashed him a laughed as she nudged him playfully and added, "Now you're just being silly and gassing me up."
Tumblr media
“That’s true,” he chuckled at her words about Asha missing out. He wondered if he’d ever thought of it that way? Truthfully Nikhil was always someone who liked to give everyone their space and that went for Asha too. Just because they’d gotten married didn't mean she had to tolerate him 24/7. He would never ask that of her. So to hear Kimberly saying it was her loss—had him smiling. “This is yet another reason why we get along so well, you see me in a much clearer way." And that came from her having spent a lot more time with him over the years. “That’s true,” he chuckled before looking back at her as she spoke about one of their old times together and ended up bursting into laughter at the memory. “Oh my god yes, I remember that! Those two were…peculiar at best,” he grinned at her before shaking his head. “I think the problem was with them though, not us.”
Nikhi listened as Kimmie told him how others felt about her actions and frowned wondering who these people are because they didn’t live her life. No one understand why she did what she did, better than she did. And Nikhil was always going to be supportive of it and have her back, even if others didn’t. “Exactly, you just need to keep reminding yourself why you did this and that’s all you need…and the support of the rest of us just makes it a little easier I bet,” he smiled at her as she spoke about lucking out with Irza as a boss. “You’re going to be fine, he’s going to win again and you’ll still have a job.”
Tumblr media
Nikhil told Kimberly about all the dates and watched her type it all out into her phone while he glanced at her and grinned at that resolute attitude. “You're the best,” he told her with an arm around her shoulders, drawing her in for a soft kiss to her temple. “Love having friends around who’ve actually seen me play before,” he murmured before they continued their walk. Her words had him looking at her, waiting for her to look back at him, only having him frown when she was clearly avoiding his gaze. But Nikhil didn’t say anything. He waited instead for her to speak her mind, hoping she knew that with him—she entered a judgement free zone. “It’s definitely a good sign,” he told her softly before nodding at her words. “I hope you end up staying here for a long time too because having you around Kimmie, honestly means the world to me.” She’d been another driving force for his decision to choose Wilmington and it wasn’t one he’d regret either any time soon.

Nikhil had a point, as they both contributed to each other's personal growth. Sure they had their moments where they were a bit much, but at the end of the day, they had good intentions and they brought out the best in each other. "You're welcome, once again." She then narrowed her gaze and said, "I will say at that point, she's missing out. But I also get that sometimes we're not everyone's favourite cup of tea." A core memory crossed her mind as she said, "Like remember that one time when we were in Bali? And those twin heirs from that family of known tech manufacturer were just not taking our compliments and were interpreting it as insults? Yeah, that speaks for itself."
Tumblr media
A blissful sigh escaped her lips as she nodded in agreement, "Unfortunately, true..." she joked at first. "I appreciate it though. Some do think that what I did was selfish and unforgiving, but it's the few of you that trumps their opinions as you do know and get where I'm coming from." Scoffing slightly, the heiress placed a hand on her chest as she faked an offended look, "I'll have you know that I'm quite the busy bee." She then regained her composure and said, "But true, I lucked out on being his employee and I hope it stays that way or else I'm fucked." Kimberly wasn't too sure if she'd be able to hold down her work visa with a different boss that was the complete opposite of Irza and she sure as hell wasn't going to take any chances on manifesting that at all.
Pulling out her phone, she began inserting the dates and nodding in understanding, "Sounds good, I'm determined to see you play regardless, so I'll figure it out." It was Nik's passion and career overall and so she wasn't going to miss it for the world. Ignoring his frown, Kimberly looked away and began leading them out the store as she was finding the air heavy with the way their conversation had pivoted. "I don't know." she replied with a shrug, still not meeting his gaze as she continued to walk aimlessly. "I'm here and I haven't left right? I feel like it's safe to say that it's a good sign...And if you're asking if I did regret my decision? Then no, because I'm certain that I wasn't happy when I was Director, let alone a walking-talking trophy for the Soto family."
“I’d honestly cease to exist normally if you weren’t in my life. I think we both know this,” he told her these words earnestly, not in the normal teasing manner that he would. It was the truth after all. His friendship with Kimberly had been very important to him before and it continued to be just as important even on this side of the world. “Wow thanks for cutting me some slack,” he grinned at her before nodding at her words. “She’ll be fine, and if she’s not—I’ll just hang out with you at your place.” Except that would spark more media interest so maybe they’d find some other general place to meet up that wouldn’t cause chaos in the media world for him or her.
Tumblr media
“You also keep me around because you know I’m one of the genuine ones,” he told her with a wink as they continued their walk. It was the same for him. He liked their growing friendship because they both just seemed to match in the best way possible and he adored her which helped it for sure. “You really want to walk around and play 20 questions? You have too much free time Kimmie,” he said with a smirk aimed her way before they began speaking about her boss some more. “Yeah that’s exactly the perception I got from him. I kept comparing him in my head to the politicians back in our side of the world and it’s a breath of fresh air, honestly.” Irza really was a good guy stuck in a world that was normally quite murky but he was sure it would keep him honest. A loud chuckle left him at her words before he nodded, “I’ll be sure to send that suggestion into the Webster’s people,” he grinned at her before nodding and rattling off the few dates he knew already. "But the games are all over the east coast. We have a few in Florida and a few upstate New York, so if you can’t make it—I get it.” He told her softly before asking her how she was actually doing, personally. The response he’d gotten was enough to make him frown as he sighed softly, “there are a lot of different definitions Kimmie, but I just want to know how you’re really doing. Don’t give me the rehearsed answer.”

"You're welcome." she stated in a matter of fact tone. "Like at this rate what would you do without me?" Two can play that game and they were both confident in their own right, especially when they came from a background where failure wasn't an option. "Shocking, yet interesting. I'll cut you some slack seeing as we're in a whole other country and the odds are stacked against us." Waving Nik off, Kimberly shook her head and explained, "I know...I know...It's simply a courtesy since she's helping you out..." Plus putting both her and Nik in a room can be a bit much since they match each other's energies well. "...And she'll have to deal with us more which is a whole other ball park."
"I know you would, it's one of the reasons I keep you around." she teased. Kimberly naturally gravitated towards those who can not only handle her, but tell her like it is without having to beat around the bush. It was why she kept her circle mostly exclusive to her liking and now that she had moved to Wilmington it was more secured than ever.
Tumblr media
Continuing their walk, she still had a skeptical gaze and shrugged, "I need to hear it to believe it, but we can def rain check that thought. As for my boss, he is decent, chill and all around good man who values the community and people. Honestly, he isn't like those..." Looking around, she definitely didn't want to yap away when she could run into someone from work. As such, she leaned in and whispered, "Old and narrow minded politicians who can't get a grip that it's fucking 2024 and not 1904." Readjusting her posture, she crossed her arms and glanced up at Nikhil as she continued listening to his response. "True, at this rate they should update the dictionary and define it with your name. With that being said, let me know when you have a game coming up, mmkays?" The heiress was always down to support him as she knew how important this sport was to his career. Pressing her lips together, she immediately looked away and laughed, "Okay...Wow...Well..." It's been two years and she should already have an idea of how to answer such a heavy loaded question, but for some reason she was stuck and quick to retreat. "Can I plead the fifth on that? I..." Her voice trailed off as she was evidently struggling with a response, "Like define happy? Cause that's sooo subjective, no?"
“Damn Kimmie, already praising me the way you know I like,” he grinned at her before chuckling and frowning when she pretended to check if he was ill or something. “Yeah yeah I know—I’m a completely changed man,” he told her with a wink as she spoke about how they really had planned everything perfectly. It was true, the whole relationship with Asha had just perfectly been cultivated in this way and he couldn’t be more thankful for it. It had been the whole process of adjusting to life with his wife easier as well seeing as they were both friends long before anything like this came along. “Of course I’ll tell her and please—she knows how important you are to me, you don’t need any brownie points.” Truly Kimberly had been someone he’d adored since the first time he met her. There was just a vibe she came with that he resonated with as well and it just had them click.
“Hey—you’re allowed to indulge in these ways with me around. I’ll keep you honest,” he grinned as he asked her about her life and continued their walk. “I mean, I can think of 20 questions, don’t test me,” he chuckled softly before nodding as she began speaking. It was good for her to get out from under her father’s thumb and he’d told her that as well when she’d first expressed her plans to him. He knew it hadn’t been easy but he was just glad she was working towards a life for herself now. “That’s good, I’ve met the guy, he’s been pretty chill. Hopefully he’s a decent boss to you as well?” He asked with a smile before chuckling at her words and shrugging. “It comes with the territory Kim, how can I not be a lover of the game that gave me everything in life?” He grinned at her before asking yet another question that was on his mind. “But—asides from all that, are you happy Kimmie? You know that’s most important thing to me as your friend.”

Nikhil made a good point, it would be more intimate, meaningful and truly a good time if they invited people they knew in their inner circle. "You're a genius." she praised with yet another eye roll cause she knew for a fact he'd feed on her compliments. "Oh wow, to think I'd ever hear you say that." She then lifted the back of her head and placed it gently on his forehead to see if he was sick, "Nope, you really meant it. Crazy..." Kimberly understood that he now had responsibilities that not only involves him, but his supposed wife. "You both really planned this out. It seems full proof as fuck." Nodding in agreement, she then gave a thumbs up before dropping her arms to her side and said, "Sounds good and tell her I said hi by the way. I want some brownie points and be in her good graces."
Tumblr media
"Yeah, yeah...You got me there." She couldn't argue with Nik even if she tried. He'd seen the good and the bad of Kimberly Soto and the rest was history. It was easy and a relief for her to be able to drop her guard and be herself. "You know I'm a slut for the aesthetics...Throw in the retail therapy and it suddenly becomes my downfall." Following his lead, she sighed and decided to bring Nik up to speed with what she'd been up to, "Do you really have 20 questions lined up?" she asked in a skeptical tone. "...Last we spoke I did tell you I was moving to America to start a new life. Apparently, my father had a potential heir lined up before I left, so I felt like I dodged a bullet. So far, I've just been staying under the radar..." Faking a smile, she glanced up at Nik and added, "I work for the Mayor's Office as an exec assistant and just been keeping myself busy for the past two years." She didn't want to worry him, but it's been one big question mark from here when it came to Kimberly' end goal. "I see you're still a lover of cricket. Are you continuing to uphold your star player status?"
“A welcome party would be too much, I rather we do a fun get together type of party, with friends and people we know…rather than one of those events where we hardly know anyone,” he chuckled before giving her a knowing smile. “While those were also fun, I feel like I’ve kind of grown out of that vibe.” Maybe if he wasn’t ‘married’ he’d have been quite eager for a party like that but he was trying to be good for now. “Oh she’ll be cool. The house is big enough that if she’s not having fun she can retreat and relax for the whole night and not hear a sound. I’m not too stressed. But just to be safe, I’ll definitely clear it with her tonight and let you know?”
Tumblr media
“Well you know what—admit it or not Kimmie, I already know the truth quite well.” It was one of the reasons he’d been one of the few that she’d told her truth to. If she didn't adore him, there was no way in hell she’d have told him her truth and he’d have done the same. But Kimmie and Nik had built a good friendship despite the type of lifestyle they had lived when they’d first met. “Yes—in a manner of speaking,” he chuckled softly before nodding at her words before grinning when she mentioned having some good ideas for that space and willing to collaborate with him. “This is why you’re such a great friend…I knew you’d come through for me.” He looped an arm around her shoulders as they continued moving around the furniture store. “So—you going to tell me what’s new and been happening in your life, or should I just play 20 questions with you?”

The suggestion had Kimberly thinking as the idea didn't sound too bad. She was itching for a good event, dressed to the nines, dope music and quality bottle service. Factor these in along with the both of them and you're guaranteed a good time. "Good point." She then playfully nudged Nikhil and replied in a matter of fact tone, "Hence why I should have done a welcome party! Fuck it we ball out for your house warming." So much for low key, but honestly it wouldn't sound so bad if they were planning it, they're practically responsible, grown ass adults...right? "Consider it, but only if Asha allows it!!! I'm not here to get you homeless and wifeless in one day."
Narrowing her gaze, she tried not to break the seriousness of it, but soon enough she eventually caved. He was right, as much as he was full of himself, he was still a great friend through and through. "This is the only time I'll admit it out loud." she warned as she pointed a finger at him. "Riiiiiiiiight, she could have chosen anyone and she was lucky enough to end up with you, yeah?...Got it." With a teasing smile, she then went back to business and scanned the other furniture while hearing Nik respond to her inquiry. "You're welcome. Anyways, based on that you are def giving 'the hostest with the mostest'. Mmkays, I've jotted down a couple of ideas and I'll send it over to you once I have it ready."
Tumblr media
“This is correct also—but I’m telling you we need to host a proper party, the way we used to do it back then,” he grinned at her, almost wondering if he could persuade Asha to let him host it at their home and make it a house-warming type of event. “That’s true…but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t get to enjoy ourselves, you know?”
“You’re teasing me Kimmie, we both know you’ve missed me too much to actually be annoyed with me.” Nikhil could be a lot to take but he was also one of the most protective and caring friends around, something Kimberly had been lucky enough to know since the very beginning of their friendship. “Why do you feel bad for her? She’s the one who—got into this arrangement,” he said with a quick glance around to make sure no one was listening to them. “I am a whole different status, I like that terminology, well done.” He thought about her question and nodded, “absolutely—I’m planning on having it like a games room with a large television as well to have people over for different games and such.”

They both were, but this was the choice they made in order to get further in a life they wanted. Nodding in agreement, she knew it was best to continue to maintain her cover if she didn't want word to spread. "That's true, so unfortunate they don't know what they're missing." Pausing, she had a distasteful look and added, "But maybe it's for the best seeing as some don't deserve it."
Groaning at Nik's response, she then pulled out her phone and started making a list, as well as taking inspo pics for his place. "Ugh, I can't with you." There's only so much eye rolls she could do, but at some point Kimberly caved and laughed. "I feel so bad for her and I knew you'd choose a headboard. Probably, but you're far from frat to begin with Nik. You're at a whole different status...And with that being said, do you plan on having people over in your man cave or?"
Tumblr media
“I’m definitely better than this American way of living,” he confessed before smiling at her over dramatic response which he’d frankly missed a lot in the last little while. He was glad to have been able to reconnect this way with her and get up to their antics whenever they were able to. He was glad she’d hugged him back as he nodded at her words, “I miss your Kimmie moments far too much, but I think we can always make them happen—just got to do it out of the public eye so neither of our reps get tainted.” Even if they were both worried about it in completely different ways.
A grin was on his face as he nodded at her words, not really expecting the thank you for respecting her decision. He knew she had her reasons and honestly Nik believed in the age old philosophy of ‘live and let live’ and that was precisely how he tried to live his life. “It wasn’t cringe at all, it was a smooth statement Kimmie, you have to appreciate it.” He grinned at his friend even if they both knew he was pushing his luck at this point. “She did—you might even say, she scored a ‘sixer’.” He grinned at her, hoping she’d pick up on his cricket terminology before looking around the store with her and taking a second to think about her question even if everything she’d said before that had him very confused. “Oh headboard for sure. Don’t people say you’re like a frat guy if you don't even have a proper headboard?”

A laugh escaped the heiress' lips as she shook her head in disappointment, "You passed the vibe check in their eyes, but deep down we know that you're better than that. I'll let it slide though, I know this is a sacrifice you need to make in order to reach your end goal." Now she was just being dramatic at this point and as she wrapped her arms around him to lean into the hug, Kim pouted and said, "That's so true, it's like a little less lonely around here. Plus trying to be as modest as possible made me realize that I do miss my 'Kimmie Moments'...but that's only sometimes though." It wasn't like she was spoiled or stuck up, instead the Soto heiress simply missed her luxury lifestyle and being able to just be out and about to do whatever she wanted.
"Oh don't thank me Nik, if anything I should be thanking you for respecting my decision and at least you understand m—" After hearing the cricketer tease her, she faked an offended gasp and slapped his arm playfully while she pulled away, "You wish....Only a little...Erks...Cringe..." She's still amazed at the fact that he was married, even if it was a lie, commitment was something she hadn't seen in a while with Nikhil. "Okay...Okay...We get it, she scored big! Good for her." replied Kimberly in a sarcastic tone. Dark hues scanned the store while she listened on his preference and that got her creative gears going as she was figuring out what kind of furniture to get. "Mmm, yeah it's like it'll eat you up once you sit on it. If you want minimalist, we'll keep the interior items with monochromatic tones as a start. In terms of furnishing, how do you feel about that bed frame? Headboard or no headboard?"
Tumblr media
The nice thing about having Kimberly in Wilmington was that he felt like a part of his old life had moved here with him. Not only was it great to reconnect with her but she brought out a side of him that was very different than who he was in certain situations. “I really don’t think so either,” he said with a chuckle before nodding and leading her into the store, glad that she was indulging him for now.
“I know, I know—I’m becoming a bore. It’s the American vibe,” he chuckled before smiling at Kimmie and giving her another hug from the side and pretty much towering over her as he brought her closer into his side. “I missed you too…and I'm glad we both managed to be in the same place, it’ll make this whole thing a lot easier.” He did know about her truth and what brought her here and while he understood it, he was always going to support whatever she did because that was just the type of friend he was. “But thanks for keeping me current with the happenings in your life, it definitely is nice to know you think I’m important enough in your life,” he said with a grin, clearly teasing her.
“She has great taste, don’t you worry…I mean, she did agree to marry me after all, right?” These words were said with a chuckle seeing as they both knew how exactly Asha agreed to marry him and for what reasons but it was still good to joke around like this. “Hmmm I think minimalist just suits me most, don’t you think? So maybe that…with cozy enough furniture, but no heavy recliners, I think they’re ugly and too bulky, you know?”

"Liar." she retorted back with her usual attitude that Nik knows well. "You know what? Fine. I'll pass this time. I don't think Wilmington is ready for the type of parties we throw." Their time in Southeast Asia was a testament of not only their friendship, but the lifestyle they had. "True, we can check it out." Kimberly then followed his lead and began doing a scan of the store to see if anything caught their eye.
"First the party and now you're gonna deny me of the gift? Wow, you've changed!" However, she understood Nik's intention, especially when their lives were slightly different now. "Ugh alright, I'll just say it on behalf of the both of us: I missed you too. I know I made the choice of coming here, but sometimes I do miss the people who mattered." He knew the truth of why she was in Wilmington and although she's currently in hiding or somewhat on the run, Kimberly trusted Nikhil and knew that he wouldn't dare to mouth off to the Soto family of her business.
"Your 'wife' better have good taste...Also, side note I knew it was too good to be true to hear you settle down." It was a judgement free zone on Kim's end after learning about Nik's situation. The cricketer had to what he had to do and she respected that despite her being in the same boat but taking the more honest legal route. "Alright, I'm good with the compromise. What aesthetic do you want this manly cave to have?"
Tumblr media
“I appreciate the thought Kimmie,” he grinned at the other woman as she continued dragging him through the mall. “But really…I don’t need a party,” he grinned as she stopped them both in front of a few furniture stores while he glanced at the display and looked back at her. “I mean—the window display is alright but maybe there’s something inside the store?”
He led her inside before glancing back at her, “you know you don’t need to get me anything right? I know you enjoy showering people with presents but really, I’m just glad to have your company.” The two had met when he was touring some of the South East Asia counties during a couple series he was playing and they had hit it off quite well. Their friendship began organically and despite their constant conflicting schedules it had remained intact.
“But I’m mostly letting the ‘wife’ handle the interiors of the new place. It’s the least I can do, you know?” Kimberly was one of the few people who knew the truth from his side because of how close they were and so he didn’t feel weird mentioning it to her in this way. “But maybe you and I can shop for my ‘man cave’.” That had been how the realtor had described the downstairs family room, hadn’t she?

Tumblr media

Tumblr media

Tumblr media
