A Break from Toxicity for the Greater Good

It’s a little awkward watching Shereé Whitfield’s lunch with the OGs.

It feels incomplete without Nene Leakes. But we’re never seeing her again, so there will be no true reunion for the OGs of RHOA.

And how strange wasn’t it to hear Kim Zolciak-Biermann deny the rumours of loosing her house? Especially when she’s going through a messy divorce right now!

Her life is falling apart, and she acts like nothing is wrong. That’s so bizarre to me!

But this absurdness aside, this episode appeared to be the break from negativity this group sorely needed.

The division in this cast has forced the show to a standstill and we’re stuck in a hamster wheel with the same bullshit, and it has not been fun to watch.

Sanya Richards-Ross’ MommiNation event was refreshing to say the least.

We’ve gotten away from a lot of charity events on Real Housewives, and Sanya’s MommiNation event seemed like a positive, uplifting event to celebrate women.

She asked Kenya Moore to be the auctioneer at her event, and even if it was sprung on Kenya on short notice, she took the challenge and helped Sanya reaching an impressive result.

The money was going to homeless mothers, to help them with their rent. Sanya was hoping for $50,000, and they ended up with impressive $78,000.

In the after show the women were shading Drew Sidora’s reluctancy to donate to the charity however, which makes me think that the friendship between Sanya and Drew isn’t getting that much better.

Is Kenya a hypocritical primadonna? Absolutely. But her comment “better late than ugly” made me laugh.

We finally got to see Roi whom she has been seeing lately. He surprised her while she was filming a commercial for Kenya Moore Hair Care, and it seemed like a cute moment.

It seems like he’s being a gentleman with her, and she deserves love.

We leave this group on a happier note than most episodes lately, and this episode ended with the midseason trailer that was all about Drew.

Something tells me that this break from toxicity won’t last long.

You ever heard the phrase, it's so bad, it's good? Well, the theory goes there is a particular point at which the bad quality of a given subject (e.g.: a film, a song, a fashion trend from a particular decade) reaches a point of such specificity and intensity, that it moves beyond this point and is reborn as something not bad, in fact, but good. It is hard to explain, and this metamorphosis from something so poorly constructed it becomes something inexplicably brilliant is perhaps only quantifiable by an as-yet-undiscovered science. Films are an ideal example of the bad/good paradox: just take Battlefield Earth (2000), starring John Travolta, who has made quite a name in a range of such films. Then, just three years later, writer, director, producer, and actor Tommy Wiseau released The Room (2003), perhaps the most notorious yet celebrated example of the genre. There is another such example of so bad, so good phenomenon in popular culture: the #dad joke.

Indeed the real beauty of the dad joke is something altogether profound. Its joy stems not from its wry intellect, or capacity to surprise, but from its wholehearted embrace of the naff, the lame, of everything that is joyfully, carelessly bad. The dad joke is the antithesis of trying, a liberating acceptance of its own narrow limits, and of its own wince-inducing quality. The dad joke does not try; it simply is.

Does Bravo Need to Revamp RHOA?

This season of RHOA hasn’t started of in the best of ways. 

This week’s episode gained only 657 000 viewers, which is the lowest viewership for RHOA in years.

While a season can have poor ratings, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the show is boring. 

However, the few episodes we’ve gotten so far lacks drive and entertainment.

RHOA is not just struggling with their ratings, they’re struggling with the flow, chemistry, group dynamics and direction.

I know I sound like a film critic and RHOA is a reality show – but I argue that these are signs that this group isn’t working well together.

I had hopes after the last season as there was glimmer of sisterhood, redemptions, and new additions to the cast.

Sadly, it doesn’t seem to move in the right direction. So, what’s the problem with RHOA?

One of the biggest frustrations with the show is that the cast is heavily divided.

There are women who refuse to work together, meaning Kenya Moore and Marlo Hampton.

There are alliances on the show that hinders any truths to come out. 

One person can say whatever, and a group will flat out lie to protect the person on their team.

While I enjoy Shereé Whitfield’s delusions of grandeur and her funny confessionals, she’s very much guilty of defending Marlo no matter what the other women says.

I think Marlo is a huge problem for the show. She’s disruptive for the cast and the show. She creates division and a toxic energy nobody wants to associate with.

She’s throwing out damaging accusations about Kandi Burruss without a care in the world. She’s kicking hotel room doors, scaring Kenya’s daughter without a care in the world.

That’s reckless.

And why are we sticking to Marlo like glue when Eva Marcille and Kim Zolciak-Biermann’s marriages are falling apart, and Cynthia Bailey wants to come back to RHOA?

We’re going to see a scene between Shereé and Kim this season, and Cynthia is seen in a scene with “Kenya Moore Haircare!”.

But will it be enough to attract more interest from the show’s viewers?
