I gotta hand it to The Heirs.

I've never watched a show where I went from instantly hating so many characters in the first episode to fully loving them in the last. Choi Young-do, Han Ki-ae, and Lee Bo-na were flawed, obviously, but watching them was more enjoyable than the romance bits sometimes.

The Heirs was the first ever kdrama that I have watched. And for some reasons, it struck me big time. I don't know, I just love it so dearly. It is literally that show that started it all for me. It was like an avenue that brought me into the kdrama and kpop world.

The Heirs was also the reason that I got to read a lot of fanfics. It really had me yearning for more of the story as I was looking for justice for the small yet mighty ship – YoungSang. And I must say it's amazing to have found out that there are lots of awesome fanfic writers here and there. I've also discovered AO3, AFF, and huh would you believe that it was also the reason why I decided to create a Tumblr account!

Through The Heirs, I also got to know my favorite squad: Lee Minho, Park Shinhye, Kim Woobin, Kang Minhyuk, Krystal, Kang Haneul, Kim Jiwon, and Park Hyungsik. Back in those days, the rest of this squad were not as popular as Minho and Shinhye in terms of acting career. But you see, they're all soaring high now – being the lead actors and actresses in their own individual projects. And when I look back and realize that I've literally been there with them as their names became bigger and bigger, I feel like a proud friend. It makes me emotional.

I guess it really is safe to say that The Heirs really became a huge chunk of who I am today.

Earlier, I've witnessed one person from my favorite squad getting married.

It feels surreal.

Hearing Lee Hongki sing one of The Heirs OST amplified all these emotions.

Look at that, Kim Tan-nim attending our Eunsang's wedding. I would have gone crazy if Choi Youngdo was there too.

As I was scrolling through more photos from the wedding, I came across old photos from The Heirs and for some reasons, there were tears in my eyes.

It's been 8 years now, but the squad and that show still holds a very special place in my heart.

And I don't think that would ever change. So I am here to see all of them reach their individual milestones in life.

Today all our ships might have completely sunk, but our heroine has finally found her real anchor. It's not a midsummer night's dream anymore, our Eunsang, as it was not the Prince on a white horse nor the Black Knight that was holding your hand. Be happy always.

“that was impressive”

It was cold and a little bit cruel. Eun-Sang let her disgust for Kim Tan show after the noble assembly meeting. She did her best not to get caught alone with him but had failed today. Her former fiancé always made her stomach turn.

“You made them forget what a huge slut you are. I guess your peasant trash can’t complain about your history either. How did you get them not to talk about it?”

Eun-Sang rolled her eyes. She had no interest in where this conversation was going. She wanted to get out of her hanbok and into her car. The sooner she did that, the sooner she could see Young-Do. 

But Tan always rubbed her the wrong way and she had to brag.

“I was always going to break our engagement. I just needed to make sure the best women weren’t available for you to slither after. Rachel, Bo-Na, Ji-Sun, and Ye-Sol were all on your list. They’re all married or engaged now.” 

She wasn’t surprised that he raised a hand to hit her. It wouldn’t be the first time he lost his temper. She knew the rumors. Unfortunately, her security detail wasn’t close enough to stop him, and she wasn’t going to be able to scream in time.

So, she was a bit shocked when Tan suddenly wasn’t in front of her anyway. There was a crack, a shout of pain, and he just wasn’t there. In his place was Young-Do. He grinned down at her and kissed her gaping lips.

“What are you doing here?”

“You look cute. I didn’t realize you had to wear hanbok for official meetings.”

“Rachel made it for me.” There was a stir happening around them but she just tugged him down to kiss her. “You might be stuck here tonight.”

I wish you would write a fic where Youngsang is in the Joseon era and the rich-poor dynamics are reversed? Eun Sang is a daughter of a general and hates her engagement to Prince / Lord Kim Tan? And Young Do is a Soldier with an Attitude.

Aaaaaaaaaaah, that would be a lot of fun. asdfjkl; Especially if I wanted to go for full-on evil!Tan route. There’s all sorts of interesting possibilities there, including general noble politics, plus Tan could officially be acknowledged as a concubine’s son instead of that fake legitimate plot line we had in the modern day. AND the stakes between him and Won could be literal life-and-death instead of vague our-feelings-are-hurt-cuz-our-dad-is-terrible.

I adore the idea of Eun-sang being a minor noble’s daughter (maybe her dad was a military official? I need to have a better attention span, you already said that, oops). With her dad recently dead, and her mom is trying to secure her future by getting her married into a respectable family before their prospects can crumble entirely. Maybe Tan’s the highest-ranking/best they can hope for.

While Young-do is an unacknowledged bastard who went to the army because relying on his father’s fickle favor wasn’t worth the headache. He was a relatively low officer, but he was part of the group who brought Eun-sang’s father’s body home from the battlefront...

“I’ve kind of grown to like this place,” Young Do admits as he cast his eyes around the open room apartment.

“Can’t love it much longer,” she sighed. At Young Do’s confused expression she begins to explain, “this place was only ever meant to be a temporary lease. I only came back to Korea for a few months to help with the publication of some indie authors. I stayed a bit longer to see Bo Na and Chan Young get married and then I just… didn’t want to leave.”

“Sounds like you found yourself a reason to stay,” Young Do murmured as he pressed his lips to her forehead in an absent-minded gesture.

“You were a big part of it,” she admitted as she nuzzled her face deeper into his clothed chest. “I didn’t think I’d ever be able to come back to this country without thinking about everything that happened...” she paused for a moment thinking about her words. Kim Tan was something neither herself or Young Do ever really talked about. In the past, both had admitted that they thought about him every day, but talking about the past was too painful.  

“It’s okay to talk about him,” Young Do broke the silence, “I miss him too. I love him, despite everything that happened between us… I do love him. he was my only real friend and it hurts knowing that perhaps other people think I hated him. He wasn’t perfect, but neither am I. Eun Sang, you have such a bad taste in men,” he joked trying make the atmosphere less serious.

“It’s probably true,” she giggled, “both you and Tan have caused me so much trouble. Both of you still do, but I regret nothing.”

They sat in silence for a while after that. The only sounds came from the busy apartment block. The ajumma from upstairs was shouting at her husband again about leaving a mess, while the newlyweds downstairs were attempting to quieten their baby back to sleep.

“Why don’t you move in with me?” Young Do asked. Eun Sang lifted her face to peer into her boyfriend’s eyes to gauge if he was serious or not. She shouldn’t have doubted it. Young Do was frank and didn’t say things without meaning them. In his eyes she saw the truth of the question.

“Tomorrow is a Saturday so they won’t need me at the office. Stay and help me pack. I’ll move in tomorrow and then we can spend Sunday in bed.” She pulled away from his chest gazing up at him, winking. 

With that it was decided. Perhaps if she was thinking rationally she would have refused him at least once and pretended like she didn’t want to wake up to him every morning, but she had spent too much of her life like that. She didn’t see happiness without Young Do anymore. Even her inherently pragmatic self knew that losing control was worth it with him.

do I or don't I

Hello! I'm thinking if I should write some fic and accept requests because I miss writing. I miss having the passion in imagining and making stories of my ships in my mind and having the urge to publish it. So hey if you think that I should, let me know!
