Hello! I was wondering if you can do something with dex from zombieverse? I recently finished the show. Maybe like a zombie au version with fluff? Like how they protect each other and like little sweet simple cute actions if that makes sense like when she gets cold etc 😭 I feel like dex is being slept on since I haven't found anything like an x reader. He deserves some love 🙏
hi! hi! hi! thank you, thank you, thank you for requesting him!!!!! I've been wanting to write for him since I saw the show and how hot he was!! I really hope you enjoy this and feel free to request more of him in the future!
summary - the apocalypse strikes out of nowhere while you are shopping, thankfully there's a good-looking man that rescues you and makes you fall for him in a short amount of time.
warning - zombies.
I couldn’t find a gif, the picture isn’t mine:(, divider by @newlips (deactivated)
You thought going out and getting some essentials from the grocery store was going to be fine, what you didn’t expect to see was people being attacked or dragged into the back room with your hand still gripping your bag. “Hey! Hey! What’re you doing?!” You yell, slapping whoever’s hands are on you only to stare wide-eyed at a zombie coming in your direction, a small scream escaping you. “Okay! Keep dragging me! But quickly! We’re gonna die!”
You both make it into the room, door slamming and you turn to finally look at who it was. Your eyes widen and your jaw falls to the ground. “Holy shit, you’re hot!” If it was even possible, your eyes widened even more, slapping your hand over your mouth as the rest of the people in the room laugh. You quickly bow your head and move over to the table taking a seat.
Thirty minutes go by and everyone has come up with a plan. You can’t help, but sneak glances at the man in the green tracksuit only to turn away flushed when he continued to catch you. Someone snaps you out of your thoughts with a groan, complaining that they are hungry. “Oh!” You pull your bag up, waving it around as there’s some snacks and drinks packed inside. “I remember packing this in here so I didn’t have to grab a basket. Here.” You hand it over, watching them tip the contents out and go through them, sneakily you grab a bottle and some food before making your way over to the man that saved you. “Excuse me…”
He turns, staring down at you. “I thought that you might like some before it’s all gone.” You hand the food and drink over shyly. Dex smiles, taking them from you.
“Thank you… I am Dex, by the way.”
You grin, “Y/n. Thank you for saving me.” You continue to stare into each other’s eyes, only looking away when someone clears their throat. You both turn and pay attention, you feel a soft poke causing you to look over your shoulder and see that Dex is offering you some of his food. You didn’t know it was possible to fall in love so fast.
“Huh?”
Your eyes widen even more. “Huh?!” Your head whips around, seeing everyone is staring at you with their eyes wide and jaws dropped. “Did I say that outloud?!” The women begin to giggle, covering their mouths before they direct the attention back to their planning.
Dex taps you again, looking down at you with a gentle smile. Without any words, he offers his drink and you feel yourself become flushed when you realise he’s already taken a sip and it’s like you would be kissing him. You didn’t know what was wrong with you, you had only just met this man and you’ve already confessed your love and now your thinking about kissing him… He was very handsome though. “Thank you… I’m sorry about before…”
He waves you off and you swear your heart nearly leaps out of your chest as his eyes drift over you, checking you out. Time passes, you and the remaining survivors have made it into a truck, tucked away in the back as two members of the group sit in the front, driving. You shiver, you weren’t expecting to be out all night so you didn’t dress for when it got extremely cold, your head was also drooping to the side from how tired you were, but you didn’t dare sleep. You didn’t want to fall asleep incase something were to happen.
You don’t notice the recently nominated leader beside you, watching you or that he unzips his green and white jacket until he places it over your shoulders, giving you a smile. Dex pats his shoulder, pulling you closer gently as you rest your head against him. Slowly drifting off into a peaceful sleep, he smelt so good even though you’d been through so much. The group watched as you slept and Dex stared at you with a small smile on his face before looking out and watching for danger. Something inside him wanting to make sure you weren’t in danger.
You wake when the truck comes to a stop, squinting out you notice there is another truck and a car blocking the road. Everyone gets out and you pull Dex’s jacket closer to you, slipping your arms through the sleeves so that you aren’t so cold. “What’s happening?” You cover your mouth as you let out a small yawn, leaning your head against his arm, subconsciously.
“We can’t get through unless we move them, but we’ve noticed that this is a delivery truck so we’re going to check for essentials.” You nod, listening to him.
“Why don’t we just drive around? There is enough room?” You look at the road, wondering how you are in a group of not the brightest people. “But we take the delivery truck. We could either fit inside or find a secluded place to look through and find what we might need.” You look up at him, noticing he’s staring down at you with a look of admiration. “What?”
“Maybe you should be leader.” You shake your head with a small smile, “I mean it. We could lead together? I’m sure that the group would allow it.” He nods to himself and you stare at him, this is the most he’s talked this whole time together and you only just realise he talks the most when he’s around you and no one else.
Lee Si-young appears behind you. “I am happy to give up my position, I didn’t really want it in the first place and you two seem like a better team.” She smiles and before you can think about thanking her, she disappears.
“Zombies! Quick!” Dex wraps his arms around you, moving you away just in case. You whack him.
“You dumbarse, if you are protecting me, who’s protecting you?” Your cheeks puff out, glaring up at him.
“Shh, get back into the truck.” You comply, something in his tone makes you want to obey him and only him.
You guys manage to get both trucks and drive to somewhere where it looks safe and secluded before you all begin to search the delivery truck. Dex finds some chocolates and begins to make his way over to you, clearing his throat so you can turn your attention toward him.
“Yeah?”
“Here…” He hands them over, looking down at his feet and your face heats up, a soft smile appears as you gently take them from him and grab his hand, pulling him somewhere away from the group and you sit, pulling him down with you.
You open the packet and hand him one, your eyes connecting as you both take a bite of the chocolate. Neither of you notice that the group has hidden behind something, heads peaking out as they all watch you with giant smiles on their face.
thank you for reading!

“I’m going to marry you.”
The nine-year old Seokjin lost his concentration upon hearing your declaration. He blinked, and all of a sudden, the game signaled that he lost. His hold on the game controller slackened. It gently hit the carpeted floor. He hated losing. It was game over all because of you.
“I’m never gonna marry you,” he said so meanly that he was sure you would finally stop following him around. But the five year-old you merely grinned, several teeth missing and announced that he would marry you. You were sure of it.
“Will you stop following me?!” Jin seethed, glaring at your small form as you didn’t mind his anger and continued walking behind him eagerly. Jin was at the stage where all he wanted was to move, to burn the excess energy. He was into sports lately. And because he was fond of it, you were, too. Wherever he went, you’d follow. It was like he had another shadow besides his own.
It was annoying.
But it was also comforting.
On times when he’d fall, knees and hands bruised or bloodied, there you were, quietly telling him it was going to be fine, gently washing the blood off of him. You were always there to help him stand up again. You always carried around cute bandaids. He liked to think that you carried it for him.
He was twelve now, and you still followed him around. He even told his mother about you, but she merely giggled and told him that you were the cutest little girl she had ever seen. He should have known she wouldn’t side with him. After all, your father was his father’s best friend. This was why you were always around…and he was used to your presence that when you couldn’t attend some of his family’s event, he would sulked. But the young Seokjin couldn’t wrap his head around the reason why he hated when you were gone.
Yet, he was irritated by your presence.
He saw you as a nuisance, but you saw him as someone who was larger than life. In your young mind, he was the epitome of perfect. He looked like a prince, and his family treated him as such. You wanted nothing but to be his princess. And so, you spent your younger days following him around. You saw him through all the stages in his life, until he became that lanky, yet sporty teenager.
He was fifteen and you were eleven. You knew he was even more irritated with you than glad that you were with his family during their vacations. His mom treated you like her own daughter, saying that you were the daughter she never had, and you were only too glad to have a mother figure. On some vacations, Jin would be kind and played with you with the sand. On some vacations, he would watch out for you whenever you strayed too far on the sea.
On some days though, he scoffed at your presence.
Like right now.
You looked at the entrance of your school with mild confusion, your strides faltering as you realized it was Jin who was waiting for you outside the school premises. He was cooly leaning against their car, their driver sitting on the car, waving at you with a smile on his face. But Jin looked angry.
“Who’s that?” Your close friend and classmate, Chan, asked you. “Why does he look mad?”
Yes. Why was Jin mad?
Perhaps, Jin was too impatient to wait for you because not a moment later, his legs that you noticed were becoming longer as the years passed by brought him faster to you. He stood in front of you, towering over you and Chan. And was he glaring at him?
“Jin!” You gushed in excitement, your adoration to him apparent that you were sure your eyes were gleaming with unrestrained happiness. “Why are you here?”
He turned to you after scaring the poor boy, “Your father asked me to pick you up from school. Our families are going to have dinner together,” he replied in a tense voice. He didn’t even let you speak when he grabbed the backpack that you were wearing, and dragged it to the waiting car.
You didn’t get the chance to say your goodbye to your friend.
Inside the car, his eyes were trained on the window, watching the passing cars. He was pouting, his lips protruding adorably. And there you were, sitting beside him as you nonchalantly ate your candy whilst talking animatedly to their driver.
“Does your father know you have a boyfriend?”
You blinked owlishly, confused with what he suddenly said. The driver only shook his head lightly and smiled. He was watching the young sir sulked until Jin couldn’t keep his silence anymore.
“W-what boyfriend?”
“That boy you were walking with.”
“He’s a friend!”
Jin turned his head to look at you, his eyes appeared darker as he took you in. You were ridiculous in his eyes.
“Sure he is. I’m going to tell your father about this,” he promised in a monotonous voice. His jaw was clenched as he remembered clear as day how the two of you walked so near each other. He knew how other boys thought, especially on that age with their silly crushes.
But if he thought you would be mad, he could not be anymore mistaken. You instantaneously slid across the sit, almost plastering your side to his as you looked up at his eyes.
“Oppa, are you jealous?” You asked with a wide grin on your face, your lips the color of the sweet candy you were eating.
He blinked repeatedly. He could not believe he came across as that! He was just…looking for you. Right?! He was just somehow protective of you.
As gently as he could, he pushed you away. “Don’t be delusional! I’m just worried for uncle! He works so hard only for you to be with boys when you’re so young!” he explained in an annoyed voice, the volume of his voice rising like the way his ears reddened.
“So I should not be with another boy?”
“Yes.”
“So if I stay away from them, will you marry me when we grow up?”
“No.”
You only rolled your eyes at him, unbelieving that the two of you would not end up getting married. Your young self was sure that you would end up with him. A year later, your father transferred you to an all-girl’s school. You didn’t have to know that it was him who influenced your father to do so. At such a young age, Jin was starting to become darker, perhaps a little bit more manipulative. He had done it so underhanded by using his charms and well-placed words that no one would think of him as anything but a sweet, young man.
You were thirteen when girls started being mean to you. Why did kids have to be so mean? Why did kids have to find someone else’s weak spot and attacked it?
You were walking to an alley, a shortcut to your home, minding your own business when the mean girls from school saw you. You learned hate because of them. Your steps faltered when one of the mean girls noticed you.
“Look who’s here,” she sneered, looking at you up and down. Her other two friends paused their chats to look and you and laughed.
“What’s with your messy hair?” One of them asked in disbelief, circling you as she lifted some strands of your hair. You would admit you were bad at combing your hair. You were used to being one of the boys that you didn’t put special care to your appearance. “Do you look like that because you have no mother?”
“You looked like a rat that came from the sewage,” she mocked you. And then the three of them laughed in that annoying way of theirs.
It was not even funny.
You shook your head before attempting to walk past them. But apparently, they weren’t done with you. A scream erupted from your mouth when someone grabbed your hair, tugging it with enough force to bend your neck.
“Where are you going? You think we’re done with you?”
“Yes, freak. We’re done when we say we’re done!”
Even though you fought with all your might, you stood no chance. Three outnumbered one.
Until he came, like a hero you always thought he was.
Jin was in your house, his parents eating dinner with your father. He repeatedly looked at the clock, wondering where could you be. You should be home by now. His knee wouldn’t stop moving as he watched the clock. His parents were laughing with your father when he asked them where you were.
“Oh, she’s on her way home. She’s probably around the alley. You know that girl, she has no patience walking around the block.”
And that was when he left. He politely excused himself, telling them that he would just buy something from the convenience store. Yet, he found himself walking to the mentioned alley.
And he was glad he did.
You were so close to crying, something you didn’t like doing because it always took you forever to stop when someone roughly and carelessly pushed the mean girl away from you. She landed on the ground harshly and you heard her pained whimper. The other two went to their friend, pulling her away from the angry boy. You felt a gentle hand pulling you to stand. You felt Jin brushing the disheveled hair from your face. And then he flashed you a reassuring smile, yet his eyes remained angry.
You were limping as he walked with you. Up until now, he didn’t say anything. And you were all too glad he didn’t. That day, he pulled you to a convenience store, brought medical supplies, and cleaned your wounds quietly. He was bent down as he placed the final bandaid on your knee.
“What are their names?” He asked with an air of nonchalance, but what you didn’t know was his mind was brewing something unpleasant. He was going to unleash hell on those girls.
Without any thought, you told him.
And come morning, you never saw those girls again. Apparently, they were reported to the school and had to transfer.
He was seventeen when he saved you.
You were fourteen and he was eighteen. You were waiting for him outside the university he wanted to enter, in your hand was the placard you spent the whole night making. You were waiting to congratulate him on his entrance exam. There was a crowd outside the school, waiting for their sons or daughters to finish the exam. You were so sure that he was going to pass. Your Jin was the smartest man you knew.
You were grinning and waving wildly when you finally saw him. The years had only made him taller and more handsome. You sighed as his perfect face became more apparent as he neared you. You were so entranced by him that you didn’t notice his other friends and some girls trailing behind him. And they only teased him further when they saw your placard, snickering about how some young girl was pining over Jin.
As if he would be with you.
As if the Jin they knew would be with someone lower than him.
He was so embarrassed that he told you to go home.
“B-but-“
“Go home, Y/N.”
But you meant to ride home with him…
That day, it rained so hard and you were only too pitiful as you walked to the bus stop. You were shivering as you arrived home. And it didn’t come as a surprise that you caught a fever that night. For the first time, you ignored his text asking you if you arrived home safely. You had barely woken up when you noticed his form sitting beside your bed. Your father trusted him so much that he let him in your bedroom. He was silently watching you. On the bedside table was a basin of water and a cloth he used on your forehead. Jin might have appeared stoic in front of you, but inside he was dying from worry when he didn’t hear from you last night.
In fact, he was so worried that he came to your house, knocking on the door sheepishly when he woke up your father and asked if you were home.
He had been here for hours now.
“Are you mad at me?”
You smiled at him weakly. “Never, oppa,” you whispered.
“I’m sorry for leaving you. You should have not came alone, princess,” he lectured gently, still worried that you went on your own for more than an hour travel to cheer for him.
“I wanted to support you,” you pouting defended yourself.
“I know. But next time, don’t. I know you support me even without you going there.”
“W-were you worried for me?”
“Yes.”
“Then,” you said, sitting up slowly before flashing him your cheeky smile. “Will you marry me?”
Seokjin only shook his head.
He was eighteen when he didn’t outrightly said no. He was eighteen when he realized you meant the world to him.
Yet, he was nineteen when he hurt you the most.
It was Christmas. It was the first year he went to college, while you were still in high school. It was the first Christmas he looked forward to because your family and his were spending it together on a cabin near a frozen lake. He was the last one to arrive at the cabin, and he didn’t anticipate the traffic rush from people scrambling to enjoy their holidays that he arrived at a much later night. He didn’t know why, but he spent his first year away from home messaging you daily. He even went as far as demanded you to tell him when you would get home, or when you would go out with your friends, or when you needed someone to pick you up because he would. He would go to you regardless of how far he was. He would drive for hours for you.
Jin parked his car and entered the cabin. He knew you were probably sleeping already, but when he passed the dining room, he could hear conversations that turned something in his brain, something so horrible.
It planted something vile and poisonous in his twisted mind.
“Are you sure about this?” He heard his father’s voice resounding over the quietness of the night. He didn’t know why, but he stayed silent. He was always the polite one, always the one to greet his elders. But right now, he opted to forget his manners.
He opted to eavesdrop.
Your father sighed before putting the glass of whiskey on the table. “I am sure about this. I think it will be good for Y/N and I to move to America. I think it’s an offer I cannot refuse.”
Jin felt a stabbing pain in his heart. No. You would leave him. Your father would take you from him. He didn’t want you gone. He couldn’t have you gone. He would lose it if you weren’t around.
“When will you leave?” His mother asked gently. And Jin dreaded the answer.
“Next week.”
Not if Jin had anything to do with it. No one would take you from him.
“Oppa!”
He snapped out of his dark thoughts when he heard your angelic voice calling to him. You were running full speed to him, and before he knew it you were jumping in his arms. The blunt force of your body slamming to his brought him back to life, to his sanity that was slipping from his grasp.
“You’re here!” You grinned at him as you wrapped your arms around his neck. He was silent. He probably hated your embrace. He probably found you annoying, still.
You were about to step back when he wrapped his muscular arms around you.
“Y/N! Let Jin go. He’s tired from driving all night,” your father nudged you gently, his smile comforting as he greeted Jin. But to Jin, your father lost all his charm the moment he decided to take you away from him.
The lake was frozen.
It was the perfect time to skate. You were giddy as you and your father skated in the early morning of the Christmas eve. It had always been the two of you since you could remember. Your mother died when you were barely walking. To you, your father was your whole world. Your laughters resounded over the whole cabin, and Jin’s parents’ were happy just listening to you. Jin’s mother was preparing hot chocolate, and his father was putting gifts under the tree.
It smelled like Christmas.
“Jin! My boy, come join us!” Your father called when he noticed from a distance Jin who was standing statue like near the lake. His black coat was in perfect contrast of the whiteness of the snow. His cheeks and lips were almost red from the cold temperature.
You thought he looked like a prince.
You waved at him before twirling around the ice. You landed perfectly on your feet. Your father beckoned you to him, and you were only too eager to skate to him when you heard a cracking sound.
You threaded on the thin ice.
And before you knew it, you were falling in the deep, cold water. The unforgiving temperature of the water swallowed your screams. It swallowed your resistance. You managed to get your head above water only to see you own father fell down, the very ground he was skating on cracked under his weight.
It was merely a second but you saw the horror that flashed in his eyes, the despair of his situation, and the anxiety that he would not get to you on time.
The second time you managed to get your head above the freezing water, you saw Jin running to you, shedding his black coat on the ground.
“My father! Save him!” You screamed, even as your voice shook.
But Jin still ran to you. Without any thought for his own safety, he dove down to the harsh water. He dove down like an angel you thought he was as you sank further down, only the light from the cracked lake shone through. He thought he wouldn’t get to you, but by his strong, sheer will, he managed to grab your wrist.
Pulling you up was harder. But Jin was a determined man.
He swam up with one hand, while the other was secured around your body. He managed to drag you up, noticing how blue your lips were. His parents were screaming as they ran to the lake.
“Stay there!” He shouted, knowing how unstable the ice were.
“M-my father. S-save h-him,” you pleaded your hero, gripping his sleeve with weak hand as he wrapped his coat around your shivering body. It was a though he didn’t hear you, only focused on your well-being.
He could save him.
He still had the energy, the adrenaline rush still strong in his veins.
He could technically save him.
But your father was going to take you away from him.
“Jin, p-please save him,” you whispered frantically, looking up to his dark eyes with your pleading ones.
And so, Jin stood up slower, ran slower, and dove a little slower to save your father. No one would technically call him on his bullshit. After all, his parents saw him dove after their friend. You saw him with his own eyes how he dragged your unconscious, pale father from the pits of the cold lake.
You saw him.
“She’s so young to be an orphan. What a tragedy,” you heard them say as you stood stoically on the side. You had not said a word since your father was pronounced dead. They said you were in shocked. They said you were still processing what happened. They said you would be better in time.
But how would they know that?
You were grateful for the Kim family for taking care of everything; from the funeral to the papers, to taking you in. Even Seokjin filed a leave from the university to stay with you.
And he did stay with you. Right now, he was standing beside you, accepting condolences in behalf of you. He was a rock, just a rock that you didn’t want right now. A rock that you somehow selfishly associated with your father’s death.
He stayed with you even when you didn’t want him to.
You had not even looked at him since that tragedy. You knew it was wrong, you knew it was unfair for you to blame him. But were you wrong to blame him when you felt him hesitate? Had he moved a second sooner, would your father still be here? Would he be lying on the hospital bed instead of his coffin?
It was a month later and you still hadn’t said a word despite you going to therapy. It was a month of silence and of you acting like he wasn’t there, like he wasn’t waiting for you to look at him.
“Dear,” his mother called you one night, sitting you down on their living room. “We were thinking…we want to adopt you.”
If you were shocked, Jin was even more surprised. He didn’t know about this. How could his parents decided to do this? To do this to him?!
Your widened eyes looked up from your hands to them. Did they really mean that? Did that mean you weren’t going to be alone anymore? Were you going to have a family again?
“But only if you want to. There’s no rush, dear. Either way,” Mrs. Kim said gently, clasping your hands in hers, tears brimming in her eyes as she took in the pitiful you. “Either way, you’re already a daughter to me.”
“Thank you.” That was the first thing you said in a month. You were so happy. You were so thankful. You were about to hug her when Jin slammed his hand on the table.
“No!”
“Jin! Watch your tone-“
“No, father. I don’t want to be her brother! I don’t want her to be my sister!” He shouted, his voice extremely loud. And for the first time in a month, you looked at his eyes with your hurt ones. He couldn’t even bring himself to regret this. You didn’t know this now, you probably didn’t realize this right now but he was fighting for the future of the two of you. Why would you say thank you to his mother?! Weren’t you the one who kept on bugging him to marry him? Did you now change your mind? No. No, he wouldn’t let you. He didn’t do all of those things for you to change your mind now.
“I’ll never treat you like a sister, Y/N.”
You were turning sixteen when he let you go.
It was already way past your curfew when you arrived at Kim’s home. You were silently walking in the darkened room, certain that no one would catch you creeping in when all of a sudden, light from a lampshade flooded the room.
And there he was, sitting with his legs crossed, his face void of any emotion as he watched you.
“Princess,” he called you in a slurred voice. It was his voice that finally made you looked at him, to look at the boy you used to adore. It was apparent that he was drunk. His cheeks were tinted with redness, and his eyes were somehow unfocused.
You blinked as you took him in. “You’re drunk.”
“And you hate me. And it’s killing me,” he replied back softly, tears were quickly filling his eyes. He could not go on like this. You were killing him. He could not live another day with you being so close yet so far. At that point, he would do anything to get back the young girl who used to adore and support him. Jin stood up, shadows following his form as he neared you.
Had you not let him touched you that night, he would not agree with you leaving him.
But you did not step back when he caressed your face. You did not step back when he hugged you, his shoulders shaking as he sobbed.
“How can I make you love me again?”
“Let me go to America,” you replied calmly. You did want to go abroad, to leave all this mess behind. Had you father not died horribly, the two of you would have lived there by now. But Jin was preventing you from leaving with all his might. The influence he had in his parents was powerful, something that you did not consider. In your young mind, you knew leaving was the best course of action for you. South Korea was killing you. Living with him was killing you. Remembering that he saved you instead of your father despite your endless begging was killing you.
And you hating him because of that was killing him.
Jin towered over you as he leaned back to look at you, his eyes tired and sad. “And if I let you leave me, will you love me again?”
Your heart was beating fast. At that point, you would say anything to get away from him and the memories he represented.
“If I let you leave, my princess,” he whispered as he looked down at your lips. “If I let you leave me, do you promise to marry me when you get back?”
“Yes. I promise, Jin.”
It was your lie that cemented your future.
You were now twenty-five. Years passed by so fast. It was true was they said, time could heal wounds. The promise you made before was long gone from your mind. Your then young mind rationalized that Jin only acted that way because of guilt, that he only asked you to love him again because he was so used to you loving him that once you stopped, you shifted the orbit of his world. You hadn’t personally heard from him in almost nine years. As soon as you turned eighteen and no longer needed the Kim family as guardians, you cut off all communications from him. Yet, you couldn’t bring yourself to distance yourself from Mrs. Kim. She was the mother you never had. But every time you called, Jin would even be more desperate for you. Even his mother was worried for her son, claiming that ever since you stopped communicating with the young man, he started becoming closed off. Every time you called his mother, Jin would snatch the phone away from her, yearning to just hear your voice so badly.
Seokjin was miserable. But his misery was not without anger. He resented the fact that he let you go, that he believed you when you said you would come back to him…that you would marry him.
He regretted letting you leave him. He swore that once he got you back, he would tie you to him so fast you wouldn’t be able to leave him again.
It had been almost a decade.
You weren’t living under the rock, no. To him, it was as though you disappeared from the face of the earth. It was difficult to find you in a foreign country even with his wealth and power. He didn’t know how you were right now. He didn’t know what you look like. He missed the years he could have spent with you. He missed you.
To you though, you could not escape him. His face was everywhere you looked, his life out there for everyone to see. It didn’t come as a surprise to you that he made something more out of himself. After all, ever since you were younger you thought he was larger than life. You were scared to see him in person, though.
You thought seeing him would bring back the pain you so desperately wanted to forget. Your therapist encouraged you to face your fears slowly, saying that you could see him without him seeing you.
You saw him once during their concert in America. Seokjin looked like a prince when you were a child. But now, he was like a king. His persona screamed elegance. He looked happier too as he danced and sang with his bandmates. It was apparent that life had been kind to him. You thought you could finish the whole concert without panicking, but Jin looked a little too long at your direction. And that was when you ran away.
“Do I really have to?” You asked you boss sheepishly, borderline on begging him not to send you back to that place.
He looked at you with an exasperated face, “Do you want to keep your job or not?”
“Right now…” you trailed off, your utter aversion of going back to South Korea was somehow outweighing your desire to eat and afford a roof on your head. “I’m not sure I want to.”
You sighed as you stepped out of the airport. Your company prepared ahead of time, arranging hotel for the whole month you would be staying in this country. You crafted a well-planned schedule which would take you around the pertinent parts of South Korea. You promised yourselves that you would be smart with your time so you could leave as soon as possible with the finished project your company sent you for.
You were expecting a calm and quiet first day.
You really were.
You were praying for that, in fact.
“I apologize, but our system cannot find your name.”
You flashed the hotel receptionist a tight smile, breathing deeply in an attempt to calm yourself. “Can you try one last time?”
She nodded reluctantly, but the result was the same. No room was booked under your name. You thanked her for her time before you attempted to call your boss to no avail. You knew it was probably due to timezone difference, but you couldn’t help but curse him in your head. You would so demand a raise once you get back. You tried booking at another hotel but weirdly enough, all of the rooms were already booked. You even tried booking for an airbnb but the ending was the same.
It was eventually seven in the evening when you swallowed your pride and called her. Mrs. Kim was elated that you were finally back, her motherly warmth could be felt despite her being out of the country at the moment for their anniversary. She did instruct you to go to a house that was an hour away from Seoul. She gave you the passcode and said she would see you as soon as she arrived back to South Korea. By the time you arrived at the white, modern house, it was already almost midnight. The jet lag and the timezone difference were starting to get to you that you decided to shower then sleep rather than touring the house. You would do that tomorrow.
But tomorrow was different.
For the first time in years, you slept so deeply. You had never felt rested since the day of the accident. But today, you felt so serene, so rested. It must have been the wondrous bed that lured you to sleep, or it must have been the extreme weariness from your travel. And probably, it must have been the warmth beside you, your cheek resting on a beating heart.
Wait.
What?
You opened your eyes in sudden alertness, all traces of sleep now gone from your body. The first thing you saw was a plain, white shirt and a pair of black shorts of whomever you were sleeping on top of. The shirt stretched out over a muscular chest and your mind was hopelessly telling you that he smelled familiar…
Slowly, as to not alert whoever this strange man was, you pushed your body away from the man you unknowingly made your bed. You felt his hand resting on the small of your back fell on the bed. With wide eyes and shallow breaths, you looked up at the face of the man you never thought you’d see again- only to find him already looking at you with hooded eyes.
Seokjin gazed at you with warmth, his plump lips lifting on the sides.
“Miss me, princess?”

Love in the Big City Eps 7-8: Always Forward
Writing about the end of Love in the Big City is hard for me because it’s hard to seem to happy about a show going so dour for this long, but I mostly feel relieved that the show didn’t completely pull back on Yeong’s bleak existence after Gyu-ho. Overall, I really loved this adaptation, and especially enjoyed Sang Young Park’s opportunity to revisit this story after a few years away from it.
Starting with the way Gyu-ho haunted this section, I absolutely loved how they were able to flash back to the previous part and allow us to see how much closer Yeong got to Gyu-ho. I thought the looks at their trip to Thailand outside of the Yeong depressive haze of Part 3 played out really well here now that he’s mourning the relationship. It’s always so sad to me with Yeong how he will choose to isolate rather than subject his bullshit on others.
I find myself thinking a lot about the pills they got for Gyu-ho, how they were able to have one night of lovemaking without Kylie hanging over them, how the side effects of those drugs were pretty rough at the time, and how Yeong probably hated the idea of Gyu-ho taking pills forever because of him. It’s ironic that the idea that they could build a relationship around Kylie scared him more than anything because he knew it would be less than what he envisioned Gyu-ho could have for himself.
I wrote last week about how the apartment was too small, and I’m so glad that we got to see Yeong move out of that apartment in the finale. It felt so appropriate that he moved to a new place that literally looked like a blank slate for him to start over. I’m glad he took so little of the old apartment with him. He kept his mother’s nicest liquor cabinet and her trophies, a few personal items, and otherwise gave himself a new start. Like many of us, he had a big love in his 20s and it didn’t work out. He’s had some success as an author, and now can try to move forward. I like that the only things he takes with him to the new apartment beyond a few personal items are his friends. That feels like the right place to end a story like this.
Speaking of the T-aras, I really loved including them in this show. I hope that for SYP, there really was a group of friends like this for him during his 20s when he was experiencing the events that inspired some of this story. It feels like a not-so-quiet love letter to those friends that he made sure we saw how they grew and supported Yeong over the course of the story.
I loved that we saw Yeong grow closer to Eun Su in this section over the broken engagement. Gay relationships can be hard because we don’t have the structures of heteronormativity to help keep us together, like child rearing. So much of it comes down to whether we want to be with this person in and of itself, and for many of us marriage just isn’t the right solution to affirm that. I like that Eun Su realized this about himself before they committed to far, and it was Yeong who he knew would understand him on this.
I am so glad they went with different directors for each section. I think Hur Jin-ho might be my favorite with the way he used a lot of still shots to capture the stifling nature of Yeong’s time in the hospital and his broken relationship with Yeong Su. I loved the way Kim Se-in shot the follow up look at the trip to Thailand in Part 4, after the beautiful work Hong Ji-young gave us in the small details of the relationship with Gyu-ho that Hong Ji-young captured in Part 3. I would also like to applaud Song Tae-gyum for getting so much energy out of the cast and the shots in Part 1, because the long toll of events on Yeong does not land without coming down from the energy of Part 1. Absolutely phenomenal work from all four directors and the crews.
As a single story instead of four connected vignettes, I respect the choices the adaptation made to soften some of the heaviest parts of this story, and in particular give us a more hopeful look at Yeong’s future. I love that I feel like I can love the book and drama together and separately. It’s rare that I find a drama adaptation does a good job or elevates the original work, and I’m really glad that I can say that about this show. Everyone put they whole foot in this drama, and it shows.
Finally, I would like to give a huge thanks to Nam Yoon Su, Jim Ho Eun, Lee So Kyung, Kown Hyuk, Na Hyun Woo, Lee Hyun So, Byun Jun Seo, Jung Chan Yeong, and Oh Hyun Kyung, and the rest of the cast for all their work on this show. This feels like a once-in-a-generation show, not unlike Moonlight (2016), where we may never see the direct impacts of it. Someday, I hope we see the spiritual successor to this show, and can point back at it and thank it for getting us to that future. It’s rare that we get this much experienced talent in dramas playing queer life this frankly, and I will carry Go Young with me for the rest of my life, and will reflect on him and myself in his relationships with his mom, the T-aras, Gyu-ho, Yeong Su, Mi Ae, Nam Gyu, and even Habibi. What I am thankful for with the drama is that we leave Yeong looking forward and not back.
It has been an honor reacting to this show with all of you in the Love in the Big City Book Club. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts, gifs, and creations with us for this past month. I am so thankful that we got to do this experience together twice. I look forward to our next big outing.

Pair: Kim Seokjin x fm!reader (Doctor who AU)
words count: 1449
A.N. : Jin is finally back! TT and while rewatching his MVs to celebrate, i pictured him as the Doctor in the MV of 'The Astronaut' so..yeah, here's the first part of a one-shot I wrote yesterday! Hope you'll enjoy!
The noises of car horns and people chatting filled the bustling streets. Strangely, the sky was clear, and the sun was shining over the British city. Suddenly, a strange wheezing sound echoed in the air, and a little blue box appeared in the sky, wobbling uncontrollably. After hitting a few walls, the box finally landed in a narrow alley, the impact forcing the door to slightly open, white smoke escaping from the entrance.
Right then, a young woman sneaked into the alley, her heart pounding. She glanced over her shoulder, scanning the busy street she had just left. She seemed to be in a hurry, her eyes wide with agitation. As soon as she spotted the box, she rushed inside without thinking twice.
"Phew," she sighed in relief, her eyes closed as she leaned against the wooden door. But once she opened her eyes, they widened in surprise. That wasn't the interior of a police box! It was bigger on the inside! Full of stairs and railings, with a big smoky control panel with colorful flashing buttons and levers, placed at the center of the room.
The girl rubbed her eyes, shocked. "It can't be," she told herself, skeptical. She stepped outside again, observing the box with more attention. She circled it several times, it was so small, yet, entering again, she found herself in that huge room.
"Oi!" a voice called. The girl jumped in surprise, looking for the owner of the voice. A young man appeared from behind the panel; he was wearing a wrinkled white shirt, dark blue pants, and no shoes. He looked lost.
"Help!" the girl panicked, exiting the cabin. She rushed outside the alley, but after spotting something—her pursuer, still searching—she returned inside, slamming the door behind her.
"You look unsettled," the man commented while randomly handling some buttons and levers.
"Who are you? What's this place? Why is this box bigger on the inside?"
"Exactly!" The man pointed his index finger towards the girl. "All good questions! I keep asking myself quite the same! Especially the first one," he added, chuckling.
The girl frowned. "Don't you know who you are?"
"Indeed!" The man pulled a lever, starting an alarm and a flashing red light. "Oh...not good. Let's get out!" The young man ran towards the girl, and together they got out of the cabin before explosions started inside it. The man rushed to close the blue door before sliding down to sit on the asphalt.
The girl looked at him with a mixture of confusion and pity. She supposed he had lost his memory somehow, yet she couldn't find an explanation for that strange blue box.
"What's your name?" the man asked.
"Y/N," the girl answered, hesitant.
"Well, Y/N—AH!" The man grabbed his head, while a sort of shiny goldish fog escaped from his mouth, dissolving in the air.
The girl took a step back, scared. "Okay—now I gotta go..."
"You can't go, you're hiding from something," the brunette said, sighing and resting his head against the wooden blue door.
"How—"
"You saw a blue police box, bigger on the inside, you got scared and escaped, then you returned, you saw me and escaped again, then before fully exiting the alley, you rereturned. Wait, can I say rereturned'?" He rubbed his chin, thoughtful. "Wait a moment." He trailed his fingers along his face, studying every feature. "This is new." The man jumped to his feet, approaching Y/N who, still astonished, held her breath.
"Describe me, Y/N, please," he grabbed her shoulders, staring into her eyes.
The girl, giving up on finding a logical reason for whatever was happening that day, started to describe him mechanically. "Almond-shaped dark eyes, pale skin, no imperfections, long hair, slightly wavy, straight nose, full lips..." She cleared her throat.
"I've never had almond eyes till now!" The man stepped back, smiling and giggling, excited.
"You're crazy," Y/N stated, slightly scared.
"By the way, I think I know my name," the man turned to face her. "I'm the Doctor, and this is my new face!" He exclaimed, grinning.
The girl raised a brow. "Doctor? Doctor who?"
"Ah! I don't know why, but I feel like I’ve already heard that! Probably because I've in fact already heard that. But, you know, I can't remember everything I've been told in almost 2000 years of life, and—"
"Here you are," another voice was heard at the entrance of the alley. It was another man, he looked sinister, with dark purple circles under his eyes and an unkempt beard.
"Oh no, no," Y/N rushed to hide behind the Doctor, holding his arm. The latter looked back at her, confused, before turning again to face the other man.
"And you are…?" the brunette wondered.
"Y/N’s friend. And you? Who should you be?" the man answered, clearly annoyed.
"I'm—"
Y/N interrupted him. "—my boyfriend! His name is…” She hesitated. “Jin. Yeah." She cleared her throat, embarrassed. The Doctor looked back at her again, raising a brow.
"Really?" he murmured. "That’s not how it works," he added. The girl shrugged. "That man has been stalking me since this morning. Maybe knowing I’m dating you, he will leave me alone," she muttered.
"I was talking about the name!" he complained back.
"You're complaining about a name when there's a creep in front of you!" she retorted.
"Uh..." The Doctor looked back at the man. "That's not a creep, he's probably not even human," he murmured.
Y/N nodded. "Yeah, those kinds of people are inhuman," she agreed.
"No, no, I mean, he’s literally not human. Watch." He cleared his throat. "Uh...she is busy, helping me to..." He looked around, his eyes falling on a trash bin. "Rummage through the garbage!" The Doctor said, grinning confidently.
"Yeah, she will help you later," the creep replied with a chilling tone.
"See?" the Doctor spoke to Y/N. "He didn’t even react to what I said." He winked at the girl, who was getting even more confused. "Well, maybe it’s normal for him doing that..? I hope..." She started to shiver at the thought she was being protected from a creep by a madman.
The Doctor scoffed, shaking his head and turning towards the other man once again. "No," he answered.
"I said bring her here!" The latter shouted, stepping closer, a strange bluish light creeping through his skin.
"Ah-ah! There it is!" The Doctor pulled out a little object from his pocket and pointed it towards the 'creature'.
"What's that!?" Y/N asked, scared and disgusted at the same time.
"This? This is a sonic screwdriver! Very handy! Except when it comes to using it against wood... in that case, it's totally useless—"
"I meant that thing coming towards us!! Oh my, please tell me this is all a prank!" Y/N complained, in frustration, unconsciously tightening her grip on the Doctor’s arm.
The screwdriver made a strange sound, and the tip glowed purple. The creature started to whine, changing its form. It became shorter, with big eyes and black skin with glowing light blue veins pulsing through it.
"Taxot!" the Doctor exclaimed, approaching the little being, which looked paralyzed and harmless.
"What?" Y/N observed the scene from afar.
"This little dude here is a Taxot! Sulabu Planet, not so far from this solar system. They’re usually harmless, they just like to make pranks! Like those gnomes from human tales," the Doctor explained, as he studied the Taxot in front of him. "So why did you travel so much? Just for fun, huh?"
"We need the Earth," the little one replied, giggling before suddenly running away. The Doctor quickly chased it.
"Wait!" Y/N did the same.
"You shouldn’t come. Go back home!" the Doctor suggested.
"That thing was trying to get me! Why? And I want to know who you really are—"
The Doctor stopped running, something clicking in his mind, like an epiphany. He turned towards the girl, who bumped into him. She looked up at him, before stepping back, a glint of awe in her eyes.
"You know my name, I am the Doctor. I am a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, now lost. I am 1992 years old and I’ve changed my face 16 times. I’ve saved the Earth and the whole universe more times than you can imagine, and I’m about to do it again. If you come with me, get ready to run."
An explosion rumbled in the air as soon as the man finished his introduction. A flash appeared in the sky, which was darkening. The young woman stared at it with a mix of terror and wonder, adrenaline running in her veins.
"You’re mad, you’re probably bonkers. But," she took a breath, "let’s run."

It kind of breaks me a little bit to know that in the moment of absolute white-hot anger Sgt Kim Yeong-hu had when he hit and shot at Lee Jae-jin, the first name off his lips was Seok-chan's. As if it was the only thing on his mind that mattered. The thing that hurt the most. Jae-jin had committed a cardinal sin in Yeong-hu's eyes and he was so mad he was ready to die while killing Jae-jin. If it hadn't been for Chan-young pulling him away, he would've died then and there.
And later when he reported back to MS Tak In-hwan he said Seok-chan's name last. Like he had to draw it out before he said it out loud again because it became so real. It was a different setting, it had this air of regret and grieving with just the two of them in that small room.
Yes, I know it was kind of the reverse sequence last to first who got killed/died in the moment of anger and then the sequence in which they actually died as a professional recap to his superior. But I think that last one was something Yeong-hu was used to. The cold hard facts that didn't allow emotion. Emotion that was currently not required or wanted, because I think he knew he couldn't pull through if he gave in to the true grief he felt when they really needed him to be a hero instead. He hadn't been able to save the rescue team or the person they had been there for, but he could hold his promise to Seok-chan by taking Lee Eun-hyuk with him and by helping the people at the Stadium and elsewhere.
Personally, I don't think no matter how many people Yeong-hu would save, he never would feel like it was enough, because those people aren't the ones he truly wanted to have at his side. Which is valid tbh, as bad as it sounds, but having your friends and family, the person you love at your side is just so different from random strangers.
Anyway, thinking about that breaks my heart.

Ep 11 : Doing rehabilitation for his hand — He might not be able to perform surgeries as well as before (doesn’t know yet), concern for him — Frustrated
Ep 12 : Still doing rehabilitation for his hand
Ep 13 : Still doing rehabilitation for his hand — Feeling left out — Practicing, getting frustrated seeing that his hand is not recovered — Tying two of his fingers to be able to perform surgery, visibly in pain when holding a tool in surgery, doing CPR with hi hand not fully recovered
Ep 14 : Frustrated to still not be able to operate
Ep 15-16 : None
Park Eun Tak
Ep 7 : Angry, almost punches someone, stopped, upset — Scar shown on his back
Ep 8 : Beaten, kicked to the ground, blackmailed, threatened — Face bruised, concern for him
Ep 9 : Decides to go inside a building that might collapse further (to save people) — Building collapses further — Trapped under the collapsed building, coughing, struggling to sit up, blood at his temple, out of breath, concerned for Woojin
Ep 10 : Everyone is extremely worried about him (they don’t know if he’s alive or dead) — Blood on his head (minor injury)
Jang Dong Hwa
Ep 2 : Taken hostage, knife at his throat, scared, saved
Ep 3 : Has a nightmare even though he is awake (probably too tired)
Ep 8 : Threatened with a gun and told to leave, chose to stay to protect the patient, scared, shaking, puts himself between the patient and the shooter, at gunpoint — Very scared, shaky breathing

Because my choice has always been you (AO3)
In which Bu-yeon remembered that she's Naksu and Jang Uk has to pick up his wife from Jinyowon.
Continuation of previous one shots "I would choose you in every lifetime" and "You are spring to my winter heart" Preview:
“We can't break off, we are having a baby.” He crossed his arms.
We are what? The words were so out of touch with reality that made her pause in all her agony.
“No, we are not.”
“How can you be so sure? We sure tried a lot.” He cocked his head in arrogance. “A consume marriage can’t be undone, anyway.”
“So you rather trapped me in?” She inquired in a dangerous tone, Naksu could at very least intimidate him.
“Don’t be so dramatic, dear, the one who came back to her prison cell was you.” She opened her mouth to argue, but it was truth, that room had been her prison for years. “I’m not letting you g…” He paused for a moment staring at her.
The Ice Stone user’s strange silence lasting for three heartbeats, she narrowed her eyes in puzzlement.
“What?”
“You have beautiful eyes.” He babbled stunned, Naksu looked away sheepishly, her cheeky burn embarrassed.
“Don’t change the subject!”
“You should come back home.” Her husband announced.
“Of course not! I don’t… What are you doing? Put me down!” She shouted outrage as he simply threw her over his shoulder. “UK! YOU’RE STUPID BASTARD, LET ME GO! GUARDS!”
Jang Uk ignored it all as he opened a portal to their home, and only let her go when they reach her bedchamber, where he dropped like a potato sack on the bed. Naksu leapt to her feet, snarling at the arrogant little shit, chasing him out of the door with slaps and curses. Her husband easily deflect her attacks opening the door.
“Keep in mind if you ran away, I’ll pick you up again.” The mage warned as she closed the door on his handsome face.
“What’s going on?” She heard Maidservant Kim through the door.
“Maidservant Kim, don’t let her leave the house for now.”
“What? Why, Young Master?”
“She wants to dissolve our marriage and let our child be fatherless.”
“C-child? Young Master? Wait!” Maidservant Kim shout behind the door.
Naksu stared at the door speechless to what she had just heard.
What had just happened?
Her hand went to her stomach on pure instinct, before she jumped in fear. She wasn't pregnant, she was going to die!
With the knowledge of true identity it didn’t only came back her despair and pain. Hate, revenge, fury, violence. Naksu turned to these familiar feelings, and let them consume her to distract herself from the pain, she was used to them. A lifetime of it actually.
And who made me like this? She didn’t need to think much about it, the answer came as easy as breath. Danju.
She didn’t have much time though, for the assassin knew now, her soul would fade away with the wind. The real Bu-yeon explained after pulling Naksu out of the storm of emotions inside her heart after remembering. Soon the priestess would gain back her divine powers and Naksu’s soul would be gone. With that warning came a vision, of the world’s fate.
A world of ashes. The fire bird shall awake very soon.
A world that Naksu once dream of while blind by her fury. But that was before him, when she had only been a child, trained to be an assassin, now she had lived through many lifetimes. The world shouldn’t be destroyed, it should be protected, and the one who was going to do it was Jang Uk.
“You lost enough to understand.” Bu-yeon observed her with the face of Mu-deok with a blindfold.
“I’ll help.” Naksu promised.
Naksu went to Jinyowon to plan, to make them all pay for their sins. It was much more than a just petty vengeance. It was justice. To right the wrong. For the people she failed to protect.
And now here she was again in the household Jang.
After a few moments thinking, she called Maidservent Kim and send word to Lady Jin, so that the woman would not come demanding her daughter back. That was no used to avoid Jang Uk by running. Hurting him didn’t work either.
Why I’m so charming? Why did I seduce him? She blame her face, although her body was different from her original one, her beauty was back.
Not that Mu-deok was ugly or anything, after all she belong to the Jin family of Jinyowon, but Naksu was aware that her original face carried a distinct beauty.
Wait, does that mean that Uk fell for a beautiful woman? The bastard resisted her for how long? Definitively it was less than a month. Perhaps he recognized her just like she recognized him as her husband…
“I did it first this time.” She murmured going to get a bath, it was an awfully long day, after all.
After that she went to sleep, a peaceful dreamless sleep. It was already dark when something woke her up, Naksu tense up for a moment, confused about her surrounding, until she recognized the cool breeze around the room. The invader gently lifted the blanket to join her on the bed.
“Get out.” She said quietly as Uk snuggled against her body, it took a moment to realized he was naked. Not an unusual thing for him, they usually slept like that. Naksu cursed yet again their marriage. “Get out, Uk.” She urged him.
“Shut up.” He cut her off holding her hand, she fought him. “You are the only one who can get rid of the wraiths, let me have one peaceful sleep, wife.”
“You can do that in your own room, husband.” He turned his back to Naksu, ignoring her, and forcefully pulled her arm to wrap around his middle. “Stop it!”
“You were the one who got me used to this warm, dear, doesn’t matter if we are fighting. Now, go to sleep.”
“You are too cold.” She complained.
“You said you like it.”
“I lied.” Her husband had the nerve to chuckle quietly.
“What else did you lie about?” He whisperer to the dark, she felt a vicious urge to bite him.
“Well, every single time I came for starts…”
“I’ll kiss that insolent mouth of yours until you begged me to take you, if you don’t stop.” He threatened her who scoffed against his neck. “I’m tired, wife, I just came back from the Dark Forest.”
Silence fell upon them, in the last months that became a sort of code for them. Dark Forest meant that the wraiths were fighting him after using the Ice Stone power to kill soul shifter. Her arm slowly tighter around him, this usually were the worst days, where even thought she send the wraiths away, the ice magic took a toll on him.
He sighed in contentment as she cuddled against him, giving a softy kiss in her hand before intertwine their fingers. Seeing him so fulfill with her presence alone made her want to cry in despair, at same time it made her want to giggle in joy.
It was hysterical.

"The Smile Has Left Your Eyes" rant.
*Spoilers below*
Gotta get it off my chest. Mostly bc I hurt for Kim Moo Young .
I read the series summary and I was like, "Mmm okaaay there's gonna be trauma here." To be honest I didn't think grandly of him during the first episodes. Actually I didn't know what to think of Kim Moo Young. A very goodlooking mf who's a loner. He grew in an orphanage after the incident and well he seemed to care for the nuns there but that was it. He didn't let anyone close or felt anything for anyone (the closest thing before things developed was that coworker of his but even they didn't appear too close to be called friends? idk).
Until he overheard that conversation between Seung Ah and Jang Woo Sang, he didn't seem to do stuff that would make him go out of his way. He seemed to be looking to entertain himself even at the cost of other people's well being. That was because he normally was numb minded. He didn't understand people's behaviour, like for example, why people "had" to do things they didn't really want to do. So when he taunted Seung Ah (even though it must've been uncomfortable. I felt like that watching it), I thought, "He's being quite an asshole, but maybe that's his way to try and help her step up for herself?". Think about it, things are never as easy as just saying it. She thought she couldn't get herself out of that situation but Moo Young didn't see things like that. He saw things differently. And so he was like, "If you don't wanna do it then don't." Simple as that.
Seung Ah fell for Moo Young because of that. And I don't think she really loved him either. She was clinging to him to escape her own life, one that was mostly decided for her and that she didn't want. (Plus they've "known" each other for like 2 months. C'mon.)
Still at this point, Moo Youngs motivations regarding Seung Ah were obviously messed up. "I wanted to know what drives a rich girl.", the whole bunch of lies, working up people for the fun of it. I wasn't a fan. He really gave an uneasy feeling (and with that face too. I was like, "Damn he's so fine but something's really wrong with him. Can't say I like him but I don't unlike him" lmao). And all that game got two people killed (which of course he didn't plan on it to end like that, and it was her fiancé, speeding and being drunk off his ass that didn't even bother to press the breaks before they crashed. ). But feeling nothing over it? Something's up up there in his head.
Same with Lim Yu Ri. He keeps her from ending her life and she catches feelings (he collects broken girls and broken girls love him 💀). He learns she's on a tough spot with another girl who's extorting her. And he intervenes again and helps someone who's also clearly not in her right mind to commit murder. Moo Young stands and watches. And then goes and cleans it up. ( 🚩❗)
Seung-Ah's and Jeong Mi Yeon's death were not his doing. Directly. But he did stuff that lead to that end. And still, no remorse, no guilt. Nothing. Again, technically he didn't do it so why would he feel those? But well, any other person would, wouldn’t they?
It's understandable and logical for Jin Gook to be a worried brother and not want Jin Kang near him. Oh but wait! Jin Gook might know the guy! From way back when he was a little boy! He's aware of the great possibility that Moo Young might be actually the son of a criminal he accidentally shot to death more than twenty years ago. And that Jin Kang and Moo Young's pasts are linked. But Jin Gook is scared for Jin Kang and more scared for himself to face the past and burst the bubble he's been trying to keep for so long (though it's still eating him alive).
Unfortunately for him, Jin Kang falls in love with Moo Young and for her, Moo Young decides to try an be a good person and stop acting as he had been until then. With her help.
"Promise me you'll be a good person." "Then teach me."
And he starts getting curious again about the past he'd forgotten about thanks to (funny, huh) the car crash he was in with Seung Ah and Jang Woo Sang. And what does Jin Gook decides to do? Stab. the. guy. A police officer. Oh and after calling Moo Young a murderer, a devil and everything he could come up with. Talking big when he had also killed someone (be it an accident, that the person was a murderer and that he might've ended up sentenced with death anyway, it doesn't take away that he killed someone).
And then everyone at the station being normal about it?? "Oh there was no report." Nobody investigated shit. Tak So Jung saw the footage and still did shit about it. But that also lead to Moo Young seeking the doctor (the doctor who let go an amnesic 7 year old boy from a hospital alone to who knows where with nobody to take care of him. Just relying on chance, "Maybe it'll be better". Like some sort of study subject.).
More questions were brought to Moo Young. The only thing the doctor could tell him was that his father fell to his death. But he knew that wasn't it because every time that the memory came he saw and heard a gun fired. So he goes to where they say his father died, finds his house (that scene when he's inside the house and the memories come back full force that he falls to the ground. Ok, kill me now that was so intense.) And he finds out that his girlfriend's brother is his father's killer. Now, how can he tell her that?
He goes back, he's angry, he has to know the rest. He breaks into Jin Gook and Jin Kang's house. Finds an old missing child poster with his picture in it. Then he reaches out for help with Jang Woo Sang's older sister (from the people he got tangled with in the beginning and that Jin Kang had stopped him from getting involved with again. And Jin Kang had told him that those people were capable of anything. Honestly didn't get that woman's deal. She was really a bitch who loved nobody and loved toying with people. Girl, get a life won't you. Mind your business.) He asks for a gun and breaks in again into their house. When Jin Gook arrives he sees Moo Young's shoes in the entryway. And he admits that he shot his father. Moo Young asks why and tells him he ruined his childhood and family. But was he really going to shoot him? I don't know. I really want to believe he wouldn’t shoot him. Because Jin Gook is important to Jin Kang. And I know he said a couple of times "You're just you to me." Which basically I translate to "The hell with your brother." (plus he stabbed him. I have resentment over that lol. Like, what was the reason?).
But I'm glad we didn't see that happen (for Moo Young. The grudge again 💀). Later he finds out that the story he had made around his drawing, the sole clue he was left with for a long time was actually not true. His dad, who he thought had in a moment searched for him, was not a police officer (that was Jin Gook, in fact), it was a murderer. A murderer who killed his mom and two others (when I heard about the other two people that's when I realized, "Ok those are Jin Kang's parents" and the idea that popped into my head when Tak So Jung told Jin Gook "If that's the boy you were searching they can't be together.", that Jin Kang and Moo Young were siblings, was wrong. But they scared me for a sec. with that. I was like, "Hell nah I love SIG but what's up with his dramas always having smthn (the age gaps in Café Minamdang and High School King of Savvy? Mostly the Minamdang one. Don't get me wrong I still loved the shows but there was that fact that eek! Aand now incest? Pls no. And thank GOD it wasn't. Phew 😬😅😂)
Continuing, Moo Young feels disgusted (for someone who barely felt anything now he feels this great love for Jin Kang and is so troubled with all the things he's found out, and the things still left for him to know) and that it now makes sense his way of being. The Dr. tells him his past and his father's doing have nothing to do with him and that he's an example of that.
"You're just you."
The "I love you" text. She knew he was in pain.
"Are you really ok with who I am?" "I want to be born again." 🥺💔
"To be born again you have to live in a warm house. A warm house smells like warm rice."
And when she got burnt and he was so worried and it brought another piece of the puzzle of his memory. He and Jin Kang had been together all along.
(Also that scene of them comparing their scars? I was not okay.💔) "They look like a map. And we followed that map to get here."
But he got it wrong and believed they were siblings (also bc of that lying bitch of Jang Woo Sang's sister. Honestly I didn't think he'd believe her. He always was so "Don't trust people, people are nothing." So clever, used to lie and play around like that that I thought he'll ask for proof or something. But that was how he remembered it and well the bitch hadn't lied to him until that point so oh well) and couldn't tell Jin Kang because he loved her. But not the way a brother loves a sister. And how could he tell her that yes, your dad is the same as mine, a murderer who killed our mom and two more people. And even when he found out that thankfully they were not siblings he still didn't want Jin Gook to tell her anything because still the truth wasn't much better. His father killed her parents.
And then Kim Moo Young commited murder trying to protect Jin Kang when he didn't have to.
"I killed someone when I felt human the most."
Jin Kang unable to believe it and breaking down saying he couldn’t have done it, that he couldn’t even stand seeing a bird or a fish hurt. Because she knew him better than anyone. He truly was sensitive.
How Moo Young hugged Jin Gook (See that? No need for hurting him more, man.) Left him a note. Signed with his real name. 💔
"When I met Jin Kang I was able to breathe again." 😭
And when she pointed a gun to her forehead his façade vanished.
"Go back."
"To where? You've been there from the start."
The fucking ending. She made him admit that he wanted to live right before that mf came in and shot her first, that being the last thing he saw, breaking his heart one last time before he was shot and died too.
How she didn't get to say "I love you" back. He only got to say it while he was dying and she just texted it to him. And it was probably the first time he remembered ever saying it to someone. Like when Jin Kang asked him if he had ever really liked someone and he said, "you."
How in the beginning he was the one who looked over and treasured Jing Kang but no one looked over him for so long until she came around again years later without remembering him and finally showed him love.
(And how it was her voice now that woke him up from the nightmare/memory.)
I hated that they always kept Jin Kang in the dark. Like, tell her something pls. Enlighten the woman too. She died and never got to know the mess that made Moo Young break up with her. She missed so much. Trying to protect her that much ended bad.
How different would've been things maybe if Moo Young also had had someone like Jin Kang did. (?)
If Jin Gook had told them everything!!! Instead of being so against them. Moo Young made mistakes but he then tried (and it really showed in his eyes how he instantly regretted it when Jin Gook treated him like that. Because he wasn't doing it for him, he was doing it for Jin Kang.). And Jin Gook was always like, "You can start afresh" (even though he always carried his grief and regret but still, he tried to believe that but apparently that didn't apply to Moo Young or wtf).
Loved, loved, loved the scene when they first slept together, how full of love and how they couldn't help their laughter because of how happy they were at that momemt. All the times she squished his face. So cute hahah. And when he carried her inside his house. How she helped him make his house a home. He didn't even have a single glass because, what was the need for those things? He's the only one who's ever there.
And that scene when he's looking at the night sky and cries and Jin Kang appears there. "How didn't I know? There are so many beautiful things in the world." And then the shot shows him lying there alone. I don't have a heart anymore, this show stepped on it and shattered it. 💔 It was so sad but such a beautiful scene.
When she told her smthn like, I hope you always have things like plants to water and food you have to eat before it spoils and that those stuff cling to you and all that. For him to keep living and enjoying the simple things. Things that in the end they didn't have the chance to live for. 🥺🥲
Other stuff that ended me:
"You planted love in her heart". "I don't believe it but I hope it's true."
"You protected her with your tiny body." "Now I feel proud of my big, ugly scar." (And this got me thinking how he protected her back then and then she did the same and took the bullet for him. But in the end both got burned and both were shot 💔💔💔)
And the songs "Lost", "Star". Loved them. And "Hidden Memory" (again, that whole scene).
Anyways, great name. I have puffy eyes thanks to this drama. The smile left me eyes.
I'll edit this if something else comes up in my head later but I had to write all these so I can process what I just finished watching yesterday evening.

2022 Year in Review: My Korean drama recommendations
2022 went by so quickly, and I think that's partly because almost every week I had new episodes of shows to look forward to. I'm a bit of a contradiction: I don't have the patience to wait for a new show to be completed so I could binge it, but I (maybe not-so) patiently wait for episodes every week, haha. TBH, I find I'm more invested in a show and its characters when I watch a drama weekly. And there were so many characters worth the investment in 2022: Woo Young Woo, Queen Im Hwa Ryeong, the Oh sisters, Kim Yumi, Jin Do Jun and Jang Uk, to name a few.
I just want to make clear that, as in previous years, this is by no means a list of the best Korean dramas of 2022. These are merely my favorites among the ones I watched that premiered in 2022 (or ended in 2022).
You can find my previous roundups here:
2021: Year in Review 2020: Year in Review
YUMI'S CELLS 2
New season means new love for Kim Yumi (Kim Go Eun) as she begins a romance with co-worker Yoo Babi following her breakup with video game designer Goo Woong. TBH, I wasn't quite sure how I'd feel about the new pairing — I have a soft spot for Ahn Bo Hyun — but Jinyoung charmed me even before the series started. He and Go Eun have a sweet and natural chemistry that made me root for Yumi and Babi, even knowing how the relationship ended in the webtoon. Another thing I love about the series is its portrayal of Yumi's pursuit of her dream to be a writer — from the frustrations of earlier rejections to keeping it positive while faced with criticisms and the satisfaction of another job (book) well done. That shot of her jumping on the bed toward the end of the series was cathartic and the perfect cap to Yumi's growth. (Viki)
LITTLE WOMEN
This is NOT Louisa May Alcott's famous novel though it does share some themes and puts sisters at the forefront of the story. The Oh sisters — In Joo, In Kyung and In Hye — just want to live a life not steeped in poverty. So when 2 billion won falls on In Joo's lap, their problems are over, right? Nope. A multitude of troubles arrive as the sisters get entangled with a rich, powerful and corrupt family with a lot of unscrupulous allies. This series got me on the edge of my seat from the very first episode and the thrills and tension never let up until the end. I absolutely love how messy and chaotic the sisters and their relationships with each other are. They love but they also fight, annoy and block each other, LOL! Now please cast Kim Go Eun and Wi Ha Joon in an action comedy series or film and give them the ending on the sunny beaches of Greece that their characters deserve. (Netflix)
BULGASAL: IMMORTAL SOULS
This is the first drama that caught my attention last year, a fantasy with monsters, past lives, immortal love and families. It's the story of how the lives of a man (Lee Jin Wook) who was turned into an immortal monster 600 years ago and a woman (Kwon Na Ra) who has been dying and reincarnating for centuries have been intertwined. The world building is quite interesting and the central mystery keeps you guessing until the very end. Keep an eye out for familiar faces as people from the past emerge in the present. (Netflix)
A BUSINESS PROPOSAL
This romcom is adorable with a capital A. Shin Ha Ri (Kim Se Jeong) shows up to a blind date pretending to be her best friend and does her best to turn off a potential match by behaving outrageously. It's a schtick she and her chaebol best friend had cooked up a long time ago to discourage suitors. Unfortunately, the blind date turns out to be Kang Tae Moo (Ahn Hyo Seop), the young president of the food company where she works. And even more unfortunately, he's interested and now wants to marry her! Hilarious chaos ensues, abetted by the couple's adorable best friends (the second couple), her zany family and his kdrama-loving grandfather. You'll never look at an archaeopteryx (bird-like dinosaur) the same way again. (Netflix)
TOMORROW
This is a lovely, heartbreaking, oftentimes cathartic drama about people desperate enough to consider taking their own lives and the team of resolute grim reapers who work very hard to prevent their deaths. Comatose Choi Jun Woong (Rowoon) is the newbie in the Risk/Crisis Management Team led by Koo Ryeon (Kim Hee Sun). Lim Ryung Gyu rounds up the team. Head of the Soul Collection Team Park Joong Gil, despite being a fellow grim reaper, is a thorn on the team's side — he has a special animosity for Ryeon that may have something to do with the past. Fortunately, the team has a stalwart supporter in the Jade Emperor (Kim Hae Sook). (Netflix)
MILITARY PROSECUTOR DOBERMAN
Legal action drama with a touch of comedy is probably the best way to describe this series and it's the perfect leading man vehicle for Ahn Bo Hyun. Do Bae Man passes the bar with basically just a GED and so finds himself unable to find a spot in a decent law firm until he gets an "offer he can't refuse" from corrupt lawyer Yong Moon Go: Serve in the military for five years as a prosecutor and then join his prestigious firm after. The plan is going swimmingly until he crosses paths with another military prosecutor, Cha Woo In (Jo Bo Ah), who is targeting some members of the military brass for revenge after her beloved father's suspicious death. After long-buried secrets begin to emerge, Do Bae Man finds himself reevaluating what it is he really wants to do with his life. (Viki)
EXTRAORDINARY ATTORNEY WOO
Woo to the Young to the Woo! The series follows Woo Young Woo, a young lawyer on the autism spectrum. She's got a brilliant legal mind, able to see different angles of a case but struggles with day-to-day interactions. Fortunately, she has the people looking out for her, like her dad, her boss/mentor, her law school friend and, of course, the handsome support team member who might just have more than friendship in mind. Park Eun Bin is brilliant as Woo Young Woo, she truly gets you invested in her challenges and triumphs. The legal maneuverings are fairly interesting, especially when they involve a rival law firm and somebody from WYW's past. (Netflix)
ALCHEMY OF SOULS
In the land of Daeho, an assassin trapped in a blind woman's weak body encounters a young lord from a powerful family who needs help to unlock his powers. Interesting lead and supporting characters, solid world-building, fantastic sword and sorcery action? I was sold from the very beginning. At the end of the second ep, I was absolutely in love with the feisty Mudeok and her rather bratty young master/pupil Jang Uk who just wants his gate of energy opened so he can do what everybody can — cast spells and use a sword. There's a twist at the end of the 20-episode first season, and I guess your enjoyment of the second season would largely depend on how much you accept the change. But in both seasons, the crown prince remains quite the scene stealer and he's possibly my most favorite character of all. (Netflix)
UNDER THE QUEEN'S UMBRELLA
A truly female-driven drama — from the queen and the queen dowager down to the concubines and, yes, even the court ladies. The series begins with Queen Hwa Ryeong's biggest problem being the four grand princes' rather relaxed approach to their education, lagging behind the other sons of the king via his numerous scheming concubines. But tragedy strikes and the queen and her sons suddenly find themselves fighting to make sure they don't lose not just their positions but their very lives. Kim Hye Soo makes it so easy to root for the embattled queen who wields her position and her eyebrows skillfully to thwart ministers, concubines and her mother-in-law, the queen dowager. I also love that her sons, the four grand princes, are unlike other royal brothers in sageuks — they are close, affectionate and loyal, leaving the dirty tricks to their half-brothers. This series probably has the most satisfying ending among the ones I watched last year. (Netflix)
REBORN RICH
Yoon Hyun Woo is a hard-working, loyal, no-questions-asked employee of the powerful Jin Family, which controls the Soonyang Group. One day, on an overseas errand to retrieve some secret money, he is betrayed by someone in the family and murdered — but promptly finds himself "waking up" in the body of the youngest grandson of the Jins, back in 1987. How, you ask? I finished the series but that part is still unclear. What's clear is how charismatic and believable Song Joong Ki is as the twentysomething investment whiz Do Jun. And what an amazing actor Lee Sung Min, as Soonyang chairman and patriarch Jin Yang Cheol is. The push-pull in their relationship is what made the series work for 15 episodes. Not that the supporting cast members are slackers. This is one of the best ensembles I've ever seen, the actors really working to make these characters ones you'd love to hate. Some of the business stuff might put off viewers but I found the whole thing fascinating and easily understood. I cheered when Do Jun/Hyun Woo used his knowledge of the future as well as his relatives' greed to take pieces of Soonyang. I'm recommending this series but with a caveat: I found the ending a bit of a mess and rather unsatisfactory. BUT the previous 15 episodes are fantastic and definitely worth a watch. (Viki)
Bonus recommendations
I recently started dipping my toes into Chinese dramas, even though I'm still intimidated by the episode count. "Love Between Fairy and Devil" is sweet and hilarious and has fantastic special effects. (Netflix and Viki)
But my heart truly belongs to Li Wei and the sixth young prince of Xin State as they figure out family, politics and love as their "New Life Begins." (Viki)
Last but certainly not the least, "Pachinko," which even though it stars some of the biggest names in Korean entertainment is not considered K-Drama by its creators. Based on Min Jin Lee's critically acclaimed novel, the series — Youn Yuh Jung, Lee Min Ho and Kim Min Ha are key parts of the ensemble — follows the trial and tribulations of a Korean family over four generations. The story begins in Korea, moves to Japan and eventually spreads to the United States. The story is rich and emotional, the direction precise and the acting superb. It has been recognized in a lot of year-end lists and recently won the Critics Choice Award for best foreign language series. (Apple TV +)

Airball
noun. a shot attempt that was off the mark and didn't touch the basket or the backboard
The gooey and oozy mozzarella cheese dribbled down on the side of your bestfriend’s mouth as she widened her eyes in shock, the other half of the deep-fried goodness caught in the air between her greasy fingers. “What!?” Bree exclaimed. “Wait, wait, wait… so you’re telling me that you and the class of 2008 basketball captain Kim Seokjin– whom you’ve been crushing on since high school, work at the same school?”
“Yep…” you winced at the bad taste that the sangria left in your mouth. You’re not really a wine person, but since Bree, your self-proclaimed wine connoisseur of a bestfriend moved in, you’ve been consuming it quite a lot lately. “We were both summoned into the Principal’s office a few days ago because one of my best students has not been best-student-ing right lately because of his basketball practice. Unscheduled, that is.”
“Ooh, did he get all hot and bothered?” she winked.
“No, I did,” you guffawed, smacking your bestfriend and roommate a little bit too hard on the arm. Oh, you think you’re so funny.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you’re working with him!”
“I didn’t because he’s technically not working with us, or for us,” you sighed. “He’s some minor league hotshot and he’s assigned,” you made quotation marks with your fingers in the air, “... in our school this year, because well, apparently he’s besties with the principal. They’re so tight, they’re on a first name basis, and the principal uses honorifics with him.”
“Oh…” Bree ran her fingers on her chin, pouting in the process as curiosity fell on her face. “What does he look like now? Is he still a cutie?” She batted her eyelashes at you.
You reached out for the empty bottle of Masseto you used for the sangria and placed it in front of Bree. “You see this?” You paused for dramatic effect, before you sighed dreamily.
“Kim Seokjin ages like fine wine.”
—
“Finally! Now you don’t need me to ask my teacher to watch the game, you already met her!” Soobin grinned and ran across the court with the ball, bent his knees and took a shot. Missed.
It was Monday afternoon, and Soobin decided to drop by the gymnasium after his classes. Bag strewn messily on the bleachers, he wasted no time in grabbing a ball and attempting to show off to his coach.
“Hey, that’s traveling! You gotta always dribble!” Seokjin called out. “Do you know the reason why we were called at the principal’s office, huh, young man?”
“Are you both in trouble?”
Seokjin burst out in his infectious squeaky laugh, grabbing the ball from Soobin. “We’re not in trouble, Soobinnie… you are.”
“Me?!” The boy’s eyes widened like saucers. “What did I do? Were my parents there?”
“At that time, no. But Miss ______ will surely have a meeting with them about your grades.” Seokjin dribbled the ball a few times before attempting to shoot a three-point shot. Missed. He signaled for Soobin to retrieve the ball with a cock of his head. “What’s going on, kid? Why have you missed your homeworks and failed your quizzes?”
“They’re getting harder these days, coach,” Soobin whined. “Math was fun until Mr. Park introduced shapes and letters. How are we supposed to calculate them?”
Seokjin scoffed. “You sound like my ex-girlfriend. She can do math, she’s excellent in language, just don’t mix up the two!”
“I agree! She must be fun. Maybe that’s why she broke up with you.”
“Yah…” Seokjin passed the ball to Soobin almost aggressively. “You’re bombing your Science quizzes too.”
“Mr. Jeon wanted us to label a blank skeleton!” Soobin marched towards the bleachers and sat down in frustration.
Seokjin retrieved two bottles of ice-cold water from his cooler and gave one to Soobin. “Have you tried talking to your parents or your teachers that you’re having a hard time?” His heart goes out to the child. He probably feels like he’s gonna get scolded if he admits he’s having a hard time.
“I might get scolded if I ask a lot or say I don’t get it.” Soobin pouted. Bingo. Seokjin was right.
“Hey, don’t think that way, okay?” Seokjin ruffled the kid’s hair. “That’s what your teachers are here for– to help.”
“Can you help me, coach?” Soobin looked up at him with hopeful puppy eyes.
Seokjin threw his head back in laughter. “I helped you get better so we can show off to Miss ______, but it bit me back in the butt because you actually got in trouble. Missed shot, dude. Airball.”
“You thought my teacher was pretty though, so you can’t back out, coach!”
Seokjin contemplated for a bit. He’s pretty sure he’s seen some early 2000 movies (or at least one) where the protagonist used basketball to teach geometry to a struggling kid. Maybe he should do that then. He quickly pulled up his phone and googled the different kinds of angles, just in case you know, he gets confused between an acute angle and an isosceles triangle. Which one makes up the other one again? Anyway, it’s no secret that he also wants to get the teacher’s attention too. He thought you’re very pretty and he overheard one of the senior teachers teasing you about being single a few weeks ago, so he knows it’s okay to crush on you. Crush? Pfft. Why he even thought of such an immature word is beyond him, but maybe because he’s surrounded by tiny humans below 15 years old all the time.
However, what he thought of paled in comparison to what you really looked like up close when he met you at Yoongi’s office. Your almond-shaped eyes are deep set and expressive, your well-groomed eyebrows rise and fall with every emotion mirroring your words, your cheeks are full, and your refined nose compliments your full pouty lips. Your make-up was barely there that he had to stop himself from staring, in case you caught him and you got weirded out.
“Okay, kiddo…” Seokjin stood up and dribbled his way to the center of the court. “You and I will have a one on one geometry lesson starting today, so…” He passed the ball to Soobin which the latter fumbled on catching. “Get into position and let’s show Ms. _________ what we got.”
Coach Seokjin’s goal? Impress you.

Jun & Jun Ep 5 Stray Thoughts
Last week, we continued from the lap sitting moment. Lee Jun ended up confused about how often Choi Jun gets around, which led to a misunderstanding with Hyun Jae later who was hinting at his own queerness perhaps. Choi Jun terminated a contract with a manager of models for being rude and a grifter. Yet another hot guy, an active idol, has appeared to flirt with Lee Jun.
I was wondering if we'd see Lee Jun's time as an idol. Seems like Hyun Jae worked with him even back then and also worked with Simeon.
Han Se Jin is here!! I missed you!!!!
I just knew the other members of this group were gonna be gay if they cast Han Se Jin.
Episode 5: Someone who keeps distance.
I'm glad it's the men who are gossiping the most. This is my professional experience.
Okay, Simeon has been pursuing Lee Jun for a while, too. Who isn't at this point?
Notable that Lee Jun uses honorifics for gus secondary suitors.
Interesting that work seems to be the primary way anyone has a regular conversation with Lee Jun.
Kim Young is here to confuse Lee Jun again.
We should clear up this fiancée thing sooner rather than later.
Of course Hyun Jae has been waiting for his chance again.
Good Lord, all of these boys are so determined to be near Lee Jun. We have seen all three of them in the last two minutes.
I love when we blame all rudeness for growing up in the US. I'm with Lee Jun on rejecting.
Everyone shoot your shots next Thursday!
It's so funny to me that Choi Jun got rejected first because Lee Jun thinks he's trying to turn him into a side piece. I'm invested in Lee Jun's sense of self worth. His comments that he's always an old newcomer is probably one of the most relatable feelings anyone trying to make it in the current professional landscape can appreciate.

Space Sweepers
This was a really sweet and surprisingly touching movie. I blame it on Song Joong Ki shit-talking Taeho every opportunity he can that I had such a bad impression of the character going in, but to be honest I think Taeho is the most human character he's played since his military service (I haven't yet watched Battleship Island but his role is smaller there and sounds like a tokenistic soldier role).
The plot is fairly straightforward and predictable, but there is something about the comfort of a predictable story in a dystopic setting. It's part Wall-E meets Guardians of the Galaxy - a group of antisocial misfits is thrown together and by the end becomes a found family. Korean shows pick their villains well, and the main villain is an eugenicist capitalist who's planning to destroy Earth and "get rid of all the genetic defects". The only pity is that there was so much story to be explored between James Sullivan and Taeho ("the first adoptee you carried into UTS in your arms") and Captain Jang.
Taeho was the emotional core of the movie. I mean, yes, Kotnim was the core of the film but Taeho carried most of the emotional scenes. Adopted into UTS at a young age and trained as a soldier from childhood, he killed a lot of people until he spotted a baby amongst the dead bodies and something in him just...glitched. It brought humanity back to him, but it also brought...unending guilt. Guilt that he was the one who took her parents' lives, that his shot had caused her deafness, that he couldn't save them from poverty, that he was too caught up with getting money that she wandered into danger.
Sullivan gloated at his failing, that he chose to trade Kotnim's life for 4 million dollars. But it was a terribly cruel choice - the life of a child who had just lost her father, or your last chance of knowing the whereabouts of your own child. As Taeho said earlier to Tiger Park, his only reason for living was to find his daughter. No father should ever have to face that choice.
The crew's choice in the end was redemption - for Taeho, for drug gang leader Tiger Park, for murder bot Bubs, and I'm assuming also for Captain Jang, but sadly we never got her story about why she changed her mind about Sullivan.
Vincenzo and Jin Dojun and Yoo Shijin are all mesmerisingly idealised characters. Taeho is painfully human, who is living with the consequences of a series of terrible mistakes. I guess I'm also just soft for people who are (unwillingly) conditioned to live as a cog in the wheel, and when they get the chance to leave...they inevitably struggle with living like a normal person because they don't know what normal society is like, they don't have any normal survival skills, and they don't have anyone to turn to for help. Vincenzo and Dojun and Yoo Shijin don’t feel real, and they are best admired from behind a glass case, but Taeho I just want to wrap in blankets and tell him he’s done the best he could.
Kim Taeri was amazing as Captain Jang. I know she had a lot of negative publicity recently but she owned the scenes and managed to come across as threatening without raising her voice. I thought it was cute that Bubs, who had a male voice, actually always wanted to be a girl. I really liked how multinational the movie felt too - there were so many languages and accents that communicated so naturally with each other - and the international actors were fantastic (sometimes Asian franchises hire foreigners who can't act but that's definitely not the case here). I had no idea it was Richard Armitage but his line delivery was riveting.
Definitely a recommend. I liked it more than GotG, but your mileage may vary.

The Witch and the Beast #3 - The Witch's Pastime: Final Act
Screenplay: Yuuichirou Momose Storyboard: Motohiro Abe Episode Direction: Hae-Jeong Gim, Shinya Kawabe Chief Episode Direction: Makoto Tamagawa Chief Animation Direction: Hiroya Iijima Animation Direction: Chang-Hee Won, Hui-Yeong Yun, Ju-Hyeong Eom, O-Sik Kwon Key Animation: Sun-Yeong Seong, Su-Jin Oh, Seo-Gi Kang, Hae-Jeong Gim, Young-Chan Kim The conclusion to The Witch's Pastime arc comes with its own visual ups and downs. The episode, for the most part, was a lot more on model than the previous one, but the storyboarding is arguably quite a bit worse. There were several sequences in this episode that I felt were severely hindered by the boarding, not just the animation. For example, check out the clip below.
I wanted to post more than just this one, but Tumblr limits me to just one video per post. This is a short one, so it's easy to explain. This is more minor than the fight scene later on in this episode, but it's the same concept in terms of the issue I have with it. Abe's boards don't really even allow for animation; the way he sets up his shots to hide animation doesn't flow well together, and it feels abrupt and just kind of weird. There are much better ways to board this with about the same amount of animation planned, and it would have been a lot smoother. A simple angle change to the back of Guideau, for example, would hide the lack of any movement in general a lot better. Even if you get the best key animator for this scene, with this style of boarding, there's just not much to do with it in the first place. However, that is not to say Abe's boards were all bad. There were still some good shots in this episode. I do like that every storyboarder in this show so far seems to understand the strengths in the art direction of the show and really leans into it. Abe also interestingly changes a lot of shots which obscure the face from the manga, such as Ashaf's face being visible when the dummy is revealed or one of the brothers no longer being obscured by shadows unlike the manga, when he's sneak attacking Guideau. Abe's boards were fine, but I do think out of all the storyboarders, he definitely seems to be the most subtle with his own stylistic choices. I still enjoyed the episode. This arc has never been one of my favorites, even in the manga, and the anime adaptation of it has some hiccups here and there. However, I would still say it has been a pretty decent adaptation so far.
Also, if you're interested, the prop designer for The Witch and the Beast, Miki Matsuda, posted the gun designs used in this episode on his Twitter. Please take a look and consider following him!
His work on this show has been consistently great so far. This sentiment extends to my overall opinion on the visual aspects of the series. From the character designer to the art director and prop designer, everyone is excelling. The Witch and the Beast is a series that heavily relies on its style, and I believe they've truly understood the assignment when working on it. While there might be some production shortcomings in this particular arc, who knows how future ones will unfold. Plus, any off-model issues can likely be addressed through Blu-ray corrections. I don't find the action sequences too bad, and the anime maintains a strong sense of style that I still enjoy.
Spoiler alert, since I'm a bit late in writing this: Episode 4 has been out for a week now, and episode 5 is on the horizon. The production quality in episode 4 stands out as one of the best in the series, giving me hope that this second arc was just a resting point, and that they have bigger plans for future arcs. I'll save my discussion on episode 4 more for when I write about it.

Here me out: gunshot, cast bts as movie tropes?
come join my autumn celebration!
ꨄ — gunshot one shot, two shot, three shot, four, 더 견뎌낼 수 없어 나를 위해서라도 너의 gunshot
namjoon as opening a film with a poem (if you know what i mean it makes sense and if you don't it feel self explanatory nonetheless. either narration or text across a screen, if you're opening a film with ~related aesthetic poetry~ those are the vibes. think the opening to wind river. or even just a poetry reading in film in general. that's kim namjoon inspired, bby. if he were to direct a film, he'd start out with a related poem, you cannot convince me otherwise.)
jin as breaking the fourth wall (imo this works better when it's a tv trope and it's paired alongside confessional type humor, or the existence of the camera is baked into the plot so characters know they're being filmed and thus occasionally play to the camera, but i love a silly little self aware moment.)
yoongi as someone playing an instrument matched alongside Intense Plot and Intrigue (you know what i mean!!!!!!!!!!!! when there's something Intense and Plot Heavy happening, and we keep seeing short shots of the High Stakes right alongside a character absolutely pouring their heart and stress into playing the piano or violin (or usually some other string instrument) and the tension crescendos in the most beautiful and delectable batshit insane way, only for our character to abruptly end the song and we hear their laboured breathing and Oh Shit, The Tables Have Turned.)
j-hope as Intentional VHS quality film (sometimes utilized in flashbacks or ~indie films~, you know how sometimes movies will specifically use different quality of film to give something a nostalgic feeling? it doesn't always have to be VHS quality, lol, though i see that one used more, but they specifically go for a more grainy and subdued look for ~vibes~.)
jimin as prophetic dreams (different from a simply psychic character, it's when a character dreams of something vague that actually happens later in the plot and it carries more deja vu vibes than it does "oh, i saw this before and now i am #prepared'. do you get me?)
taehyung as nostalgic memory montage of someone now gone (a classic version is 'dead wife laughing while in bed or at the sea,' lol, but it can literally be anyone either dead or ambiguously gone. bonus points if it's because our main character is visiting home after having left at a young age, or because they're specifically Traveling™)
jungkook as funny one liners (listen,,,,,,,,,,, marvel studios abused this kind of humor, it is true, but occasionally a sarcastic and silly one liner is precisely what the situation calls for. timing is everything, and confidence is the other half of the equation.)
#autumncelebration2k23#☀ bts#asks#you asked for movie tropes and everything logical left my mind i'm so sorry#what is a trope? idk really but these are vibes#ANYWAY I LOVE YOU FOR ASKING FOR BTS
