Blue Birthday - Episode 8
Tumblr media
I’m supposed to do chores outside, so why not instead getting back in the game with this blog? The last couple of times, I did some reviews of Eternal Love, but I feel for something a little shorter this time and I thought why not getting back on with this one? Plus, who doesn’t love a good mystery? We still have a few pictures to burn to save our boy. It’s been more than a year, so I have absolutely no memory of what are the protagonists’ names are, I’m too lazy to read my previous recaps, so hopefully... you’ll still bear with me and my ways :D
Sooooo missy here got caught using the camera to come back to the past. He knows because he used to do it all the time so she would never get hurt. That’s kind of sweet. However he tells that even though he gets killed, not to come back again. Ha Rin (that’s the girl’s name, I picked it up quickly hehehe) gets mad at Seo Jun (and that’s the booooy) for telling her not to come back, because it was so hard for her to live on with all those regrets. But when he tries to tell her that it’s for her own good, the ringing starts to bug her and she’s brought back to the present before they can even finish their discussion while she wonders if she hasn’t just been greedy all this time.
Present Ha Rin is feeling devastated and sad, because she feels her feelings are not reciprocated. She’s about to destroy the leftover pictures when she gets a call from Su Jin (I don’t remember who that is, but I figure it’s one of her friends, probably the best friend she almost lost, we’ll see). So her friend was with her boyfriend and she wonders if they should break up since they fight all the time. Ha Rin reasons with her and leads her friend to think she is meeting with someone. The topic moves to Ji Seojun and Ha Rin says she met with him and all, but Su Jin seems to think she had dream. Who bets that he’s still dead since her last past travel trip? Me. I do. Wow, so she tells Su Jin she traveled back to the past through pictures. At this point, the girl must think she’s completely wacko. Ha Rin says she really regrets what happened, so Su Jin tells her not to listen to Seojun and go back anyways, that she should do whatever she wants in her dream. Plus she never listens to anyone. So she gets up to the restroom and decides to burn another picture, so she won’t have anymore regrets.
While she sneaks around to get more infos on this potential murderer, she almost gets crushed by a broken bookshelf. Fortunately, Seojun saves her just in time. And he tells her that she shouldn’t come back because every time she does, she has to pay the price and the more she does, the higher the cost. She does her little I’m very stubborn speech and it seems to me like they reconcile and she asks him to help her. While they tidy the mess from the bookshelf, they notice that someone must have tampered with it on purpose, since one of the legs has been cut through. Meanwhile, other male friend who’s also in love with Ha Rin eavesdrops on them. And he also heard them last time when Seojin confronted Ha Rin and told her not to come back. There’s nothing to make out of it for now. Ha Rin and Seojun install a camera in the photo room and he promises to send an email to her as soon as he sees something. So first thing she does when she goes back - let’s not care about the friend that was ditched at the café right - is to go check her email. And now she thinks that the culprit is Kim Sinwu, some guy that doesn’t like Seojun. But we’re only eight episodes in, he’s definitely not the culprit. Anyways, so she calls Eunsong (lovestruck side boy) to ask about Sinwu. Turns he does deliveries. Even bigger of a coincidence, he delivers to her center. Exactly that day. How amazing! She confesses to Eunseong that Seojun was murdered and then runs into Sinwu. And... DUN DUN DUN DUN.
The rest is going to be in episode 9. At this point, I think Ha Rin is really annoying :D I think she’s pretty selfish and I don’t know. I want to see a little bit of growth in her and so far... meh. But we’ll see! See you next time!

Somehow has normal, alive parents: Lee Jun-ho (Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Has no backstory at all. We only meet his older sister and hear nothing about his childhood.) Shin Ha-ri (Business Proposal, her family is refreshingly normal, right down to her brother being sent out to find her when she's drunk) Oh Han-byeol (Sh**ting Stars, Again, we know almost nothing about her family, only that she has twin sisters. Park Yeon-woo (The Story of Park's Marriage Contract, her mom being annoyed at her for something that is a crime doesn't count as bad parenting) Lee Young-joon/Sung-hyun (What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, his trauma comes from a kidnapper, his parents faced a pretty impossible situation and did their best. They clearly love their kids) Baek Hyun-woo (Queen of Tears, nothing wrong with them out of the ordinary and they are in the drama a significant amount.) Ha Eun-gyeol (Twinkling Watermelon, very loving parents and the deafness and their reliance on him is not anyone's fault)
*Counting her as an orphan even though she gets her parents back after 20 years, she spent her childhood orphaned. ***This character is tricky because I understand why her mother wanted nothing to do with her, but her trying to manipulate the dad and also saying he didn't raise her properly made me so angry. Uncatagorized due to lack of clarity on parents: Soundtrack #1, Hospital Playlist, Happiness

THE HEAVENLY IDOL // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 6,8 Benim puanım: 6
Drama: The Heavenly Idol (English title) / Holy Idol (literal title)
Hangul: 성스러운 아이돌
Director: Park So-Yeon, Lee So-Yoon
Writer: Shin Hwa-Jin (web novel), Lee Cheon-Geum
Date: 2023
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Cast: Kim Min-Kyu, Go Bo-Gyeol, Ye Ji-Won
İlk izlediğim dizisi Cinderella and the Four Knights’dı.

Hi Bye, Mama! (2020)
Tumblr media
The premise of the show is that a mother has been haunting her family for 5 years after dying in a tragic accident. Then she is suddenly brought back to life which causes alot of drama. This is definitely a sad, crying type of tv show, though not for the reasons I expected.
The tragic accidental death of Yu-ri feels engineered to wring pathos out of the audience, but I don't feel like it is being manipulative. I think it is trying to make the grief the characters go through as relatable as possible so that you can examine and apply it to your own life. Because--if you live long enough--everyone will go through this kind of thing. You will find yourself down the bottom of a deep, dark hole, and need some way to help get yourself out of it. So the goal the writers are aiming for is good, even if the execution feels off in a few places.
The Performances: 1. The dynamic between the lead Cha Yu-ri (played by the charming Kim Tae-hee) and Yu-ri's mother Jeon Eun-sook (played by the amazingly talented Kim Mi-kyung) is what makes the show work for me. I've seen Kim Mi-kyung in three roles, and she's always one of the mothers, and she's always a standout. The bond between her and Yu-ri is completely believable and I never got tired of it.
2. The relationship between Yu-ri and her best friend Go Hyun-jung (played by Shin Dong-mi) is the other standout. It takes a few episodes for this to start to develop, but that's the other relationship that I never got tired of watching. The arc where the two friends basically "adopted" Oh Min-jung was probably my favorite of the series, and I wish they had given us more of that before pulling the rug out from under them.
3. The romantic relationships were not there, so it's hard to judge the performances of the male leads. Except for Yu-ri's father played by Park Soo-young, who was delightful. I'd say the chemistry was almost nil between the male leads and their spouses (especially Gang-hwa). Much of this is intentional, as playing up the romantic angles would cause awkward problems with the story the writers were trying to tell, but it did make their roles feel less interesting overall. The job of the two male leads was to stand there and take the bad news. To be relatable without seeming too pathetic and (in the case of Gye Geun-sang) to provide some lighter moments in the series. They did okay with that, but not amazing.
4. Oh Min-jung (played by Go Bo-gyeol) was probably the least interesting main character, and it's hard to say whether it was a casting problem, or a writing problem, or just the actress not being quite experienced enough for the role. The biggest problem from a writing angle was that they wanted to make her the "good step-mom", so they gave her alot of nice, bland traits without trying to make her relatable. When they finally gave her an arc where she could be active, she did well, but that was 2-3 episodes out of the 16. They had the same problem (to a lesser degree) with Gang-hwa. So the scenes where they were alone together were the least interesting because it was two bland, passive characters trying to carry a scene and failing.
TL;DR:
Watch this for the female relationships and the interesting look at grief. Do not watch this if you want a good romance, or want to feel happy at the end. I did enjoy it, but I don't think it's the kind of show you can rewatch unless you really want to feel sad for some reason. I felt calm, peaceful, and satisfied with the ending, but not happy.

Life Lessons from Hi, Bye Mama
Hi, Bye Mama is one of those kdramas that having one box of tissue isn’t enough. It’s the type of drama that moves you and hits you in the heart. It makes you feel guilty if you take life and the people around you for granted. It makes you want to live life to the fullest. It makes living one of the greatest gift that one gets. Every episode of Hi, Bye Mama gives you so many life lessons that you just want to live life at its fullest. With that being said, here are 5 life lessons from Hi, Bye Mama
Life lessons learned in Hi, Bye Mama. 1. Don't take life for granted. As generic and cliche as it sounds, you never know what the future holds. Live life to the fullest and always appreciate the people around you.
Tumblr media
2. If your family loves you dearly, they will never abandon you. Yu-Ri may have been a ghost for 5 years but she has never abandoned Seo-Woo. Although it was unfortunate that she got into an accident, she was able to get a second chance to be with her daughter.
Tumblr media
Yu-ri’s mom also got the chance to spend time with her before she had to go again. It was so sweet to see how their relationship as mother and daughter grew even in a short span of time. No matter how old you are, your mom will always embrace you with open arms.
3. When life gives you second chances, consider it as a gift. Whether your consider yourself lucky or not, it is a gift for you to cherish and to appreciate. It gives you the opportunity to process and reflect on the things you weren't able to do on your first chance, hence given a second chance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Not all stepmoms are evil. It's sad how children's books or fairytales depict stepmoms as evil like the one in Cinderella. Min-jung, Seo-woo's mom was so kind that I actually felt bad for her character. She loved Seo-Woo as her own.
Tumblr media
It was so hard to hate Min-jung. As much as i wanted Yu-Ri to have her husband back, the fact that Min-jung sacrificed her own career to take care of Seo-Woo was something that shouldn’t be overlooked.  A stepmom that willingly took the role as a mom right away was so beautiful that her character deserved more credit. Obviously it was difficult for her because she wasn’t Seo-Woo’s biological mom, but she was able to show her maternal love for her. It was evident in how she was Seo-Woo’s favorite person in the whole world.   It was also so nice to see how her friendship with Yu-Ri and Hyun-Jung developed throughout the drama, kicking the other mom’s asses when they couldn’t stop backbiting them.
Tumblr media
When Min-Jung wrote her goodbye letter to Yu-Ri, I cried so hard. Even though Yu-Ri lied to her, she still forgave her because she was still treated nicely.
Tumblr media
5. Letting go isn't bad at all. Although it takes time and courage to accept this reality, it gives you a peace of mind. Gang-hwa lost Yu-Ri once Seo-Woo was born. It was so difficult for him to let go of Yu-ri that it compromised his career. Letting go of what hurt you gives you an avenue to soar higher and reach greater heights. Once he got the closure from Yu-Ri before she left (for the second time), he was able to fix his fear and relationship with his second wife, Min-Jung.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, I felt so bad for Gang-Hwa’s character. He was so broken even though he got remarried. Losing a loved one abruptly was so hard that it takes so long to move on. Salute to all those people who were able to recover from losing a loved one. From his character, one can realize that moving on from a loss can take awhile. One shouldn’t rush this process but should remember that it will get better. There will be light at the end of the tunnel.
Tumblr media
This show was so good that i wish there were more shows that didn’t have antagonists in them. So many life lessons to learn from here. 10/10 recommend

Blue Birthday - Episode 1
Tumblr media
As I was wandering on Viki, checking on my ongoing projects and stuff, I stumbled upon this drama and reading the sypnosis - yes I did read it for once - I kind of figured I needed to watch this. Watching something on going is always a bad idea, but oh well. I don’t want to go to bed just yet and it’s short episodes. So let’s get into it.
Oh Harin is going to confess her feelings to her friend and crush, Seojun on her 18 birthday. However, when she gets to the photography club room where they agreed to meet, being all excited about the surprise he might have prepared for her, she actually finds his dead body as he committed suicide. Pretty harsh if you ask me. The scene wasn’t too graphic, thankfully, because that’s a good thing. The acting paried with the kind of joyful music didn’t cut it out for me though.
Then we jump ten years in time later. Harin works in an animal rescue center. She ends up going back to her highschool for work and obviously she isn’t too happy about it, since it’s also the memorial day. Her colleagues argue about first love and she’s definitely uncomfortable.
While looking for the lost dog, she’s having a flashback of her and Seojun arguing about some film, for a camera. She trips and he catches her, they obviously have feelings for each other. And they bicker at each other when their friends tease them.
As she’s about to catch the puppy they came looking for, Harin keeps hallucinating Seojun. She remembers a time she told him another guy is better than him and when he asks her what she thinks of him, she friendzones him, too afraid that he would reject her if she confessed her feelings. So he doesn’t let her stay to help developing the pictures. And then of course, flashback of his death. And she catches the little dog.
She finds back Seojun’s old camera on her way to a cafe to meet with a friend and she could get 9 pictures taken by the camera too, the others couldn’t be printed since it’s been too long. The old man seems to know who she is, he wants to tell about a letter but she leaves without listening.
She celebrates her birthday with her friends but then they talk about Seojun and when one of them asks why he did that, she takes the blame all on herself. It’s obvious that the guy following her has a crush on her, but she seems pretty oblivious about it. She’s wondering if she could have done something to stop him from dying.
She reads his confession letter after throwing into the flames a picture he took of her and she wishes to see him one more time. When she opens her eyes, she wakes up back in the past.
And to finish the episode, they show us a short flashback of how the picture was taken. She was begging that he took her picture, but he wouldn’t. So the other guy, Eunsong I guess then, said he would lend her his camera instead. So because they obviously rivals, he takes a picture of her, so she doesn’t need Eunsong’s camera.
This drama reminds me a lot of Under the Miracle Cherry Tree which I enjoyed very much. So I am enjoying this one too and expect a lot of mysteries now. she probably won’t be able to save him though, so I’m already getting the tissues ready for the heartbreak to come.
