like I'm almost halfway through killing stalking and I feel that the stuff sangwoo does to bum is really half-measured and shallow so it's hard to be invested in their relationship or their dynamic. it's difficult to explain unless you've read it, but it feels like it's just leaving crumbs of kink on the table and not committing to any of it unless it can be used for shock value, and even though the chapter before this one finally gave some much needed backstory for bum sangwoo still feels pretty empty and bland at this point since the only thing we know is that he killed his parents because his dad was abusive. and his hot and cold touch with bum is getting tiring so I'm glad he actually cared when he thought bum died from slitting his wrists. anyway we arguably know even less about this cop character who's trying to trail sangwoo but I'm already way more interesting in the potential of a character who tries to be morally good but he ends up becoming sexually involved in this disastrous person whose past and ongoing trauma creates a very dangerous cocktail of bpd and dissociative tendencies and how far bum might push his ethics if they were to become involved with one another. also the cop hasn't called bum a retard yet so there's that #critique #medialiteracy #killingstalking

In this interview, Koogi never says it should not be considered a BL: what she means is that as an author, she didn't want to trivialize the relationship between victim and abuser as it happens in many stories! And she perfectly managed to do so, since it's not the usual cliché with Stockholm syndrome used as an excuse for the captive to fall for their captor, Sangwoo and Bum have complex and multifaceted reasons to do what they do, connected to their past and personalities! Also as a story, KS is not a romance per se, this is very clear, but there is a romance! A dark, unhealthy, toxic romance but still a romance! This doesn't mean Koogi romanticises abuse: KS is targeted to an adult audience, readers that have the tools to tell fiction and reality apart and that can understand the depth of the story. KS never glorifies abuse, that's a fact. It's also interesting to notice this interview actually heavily implies KS is a BL.

For the author to emphasize this within a personal interview goes to show how powerful the fanbase for this comic turns out to be, and the internet's perception toward the narrative as a whole. As if Koogi is teasing the audience for their portrayal of abuser and victim because the complexities of their identities and relationship are a foundation point for the theme that they want to orchestrate; They kind of play into the audience's delusions, which is very comical. It is heavily implied that this piece is a BL due to the many questions formed by the interviewer, and the atmosphere where this question was answered–at a comic event–surrounded by potentially thousands of fans who know it for this reason. Yes, Sangwoo loved Bum, but that came with days of harm and manipulation on his part.

What was my first opinion on ‘Killing Stalking’ ?

When I first read killing stalking… I couldn’t take in what I just read. I was confused on what I should feel about the main characters and their situations.

I didn’t hate Sangwoo as much as I thought I did after learning about his past. I rather felt sorry for him and cried for hours. That’s what makes up a good story in my opinion: if you can get the reader to “feel” the characters pain.

I enjoyed the story line. Way too much that I’m reading the manhwa every day.

I felt really sorry for both of them that they had to be broken like that & seeking each other for their own certain comfort.

I got chills and had nightmares over this masterpiece.
