Man I forgot to post this. This is some fanart I made for the Naruto fanfic Kill Your Heroes by EvilIsARelativeTerm on ff.net AKA TheLightAtLastAndAlways on ao3.org. "It's time to stop waiting for other people to save you. A story about fear, resilience, and Sakura." I started this piece somewhere around 3 years ago, probably a bit longer than that. The left piece is Sakura in her KMPF uniform, in my best approximation to the Naruto style. The right piece is Sakura in a partial Sage Mode transformation and honestly I should've drawn her pupils blown out and shining, but I didn't plan out the lightning when I started like, AT ALL, so I didn't think of it. I actually couldn't work on it for ages, but a few days ago I popped out my tablet and did the shading and lighting, and well, now it's here! I'm mostly happy with it though.

Kill Your Heroes by AWOLNATION is an Avatar of the End
youtube
Well I met an old man dying on a train
No more destination, no more pain
Well he said one thing: "Before I graduate
Never let your fear decide your fate"
I say you kill your heroes and fly, fly, baby don't cry
No need to worry 'cause, everybody will die
Every day we just go, go, baby don't go

Have u heard about ohm? I feel like a lot of bl fans on here are ignoring what happened and what he has done the same for gulf
If it doesn't come across my dash, I have no idea what any of these people do in real life. None. But @gunsatthaphan has been writing about it.
I sit strictly in the Kill Your Heroes boat. Not literally, that's murder and messy, but figuratively I'm always cheering for us to kill our idols. I watched a beloved author embrace being a TERF and learned Gandhi and Mother Teresa were shitty people. Therefore, nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to people who are idolized. Hence why I thoroughly enjoy these little fictional worlds.
Celebrities don't pay my bills, and I don't know them in real life, so I'm also less bothered by their antics. Not in the sense that I excuse the behavior, but in the realm of I can only control what I can control, which is surprisingly... a lot. Ohm already issued a very PR-written apology, so focusing the conversation on him seems to miss the real issue - bullying, which is a societal problem that still persists. We could stop watching his series, but what would actually help is educating people about why what he did was upsetting and harmful, so others don't do the same - [resources] Anti-Bullying Centre (ABC); Sokantat et al. (2012, December). Thai Culture: The Foundation of School Bullying. International Journal of Criminal Justice Science, 16(2), 369-384.
Once again, don't think I'm dismissing his actions, but often I see people I love and care for get upset at celebrity behavior like a rapper saying homophobic quips, yet they are fine with their grandpappy sprinkling subtle homophobic comments at the dinner table every week because "that's just how he was raised."
Sometimes the call is coming from the inside the house!
I can't control what an actor did ten plus years ago and might even continue doing today, but I can guide the people I surround myself with and my community members in harm reduction and operating from a place of kindness and care rather than hurt or fear.
I'm trying to hold the people I know more accountable than people I have never met.
People make mistakes, but some of the people we know have a pattern we continue to dismiss because we love them. People can and should evolve, but sometimes we need a shove away from a problematic path to help us find the light. Maybe Ohm had someone in his life that gave him that shove. Maybe not. But know that I am more than open to being shoved by people I cause harm to (knowingly and unintentionally), so like the TSA announces every two seconds in the airport, "if you see something, say something."
Shove me.
Educate me.
#Shove Me#Kill Your Heroes#If you see something‚ say something#bullying is a societal problem#educate me

I'm sorry Billy…. When attempting sleep; I lay...unable. The sheets, their ropes. The loneliness you must've felt. I guess looking back, that would have been the first time...I let you down. Not only as a friend, but as a brother. Dumb and young, you could say.
None of us understood then....
I mean why wouldn't you want to be tied up by three older women? It's a teenage boy's perfect fantasy, right? Never realizing the nightmare, you went through.
Seeing the cuts on your abdomen... the blood on your face, washing away your Clark Kent-esque smile. You hoppled down the block restrained with jump rope, or some kind of bungees around your ankle. Purple and green with black splat patterns. We laughed.
Years later Billy…Your face got better, but those cuts... they resurfaced; unnoticed. Unattended for... so they became more frequent, self-inflicted.
I'm sorry, Billy. But none of us ever thought your pain would burn the world, and still rage.

Please stop worshipping this guy. Want to know what he said about Fahrenheit 451 in 1994?
“Political correctness is the real enemy these days. The black groups want to control our thinking and you can't say certain things. The homosexual groups don't want you to criticize them. It's thought control and freedom of speech control.”
That’s Ray Bradbury in his own words. A racist old homophobe.
watching the US ban more books and make robot police dogs

“You were clingy when we were teammates and now you’re vicious. Who’d be stupid enough to date you?” Sasuke asked, ignoring the way his teammates were about to engage in round three-hundred and forty-seven of the argument that seemed to never end.
“I have no complaints about Sakura’s personality,” was Itachi’s even reply, which brought the war between Suigetsu and Karen to a dead silence.

And once again, I repeat: This is the year to kill all your heroes. It is now your turn to step up & become the only one you count on, the only one you depend on, the only one you look up to.
There will be many people that will ‘carry’ you throughout life- - But at a certain point, they will drop you, like the majority of humans tend to do. And it’s your job to pick up where they left off, and to learn from their actions.
What would you do differently? What would you have not done that they did? How will you embody the continued spiritual evolution?
Don’t be a slave to your desires, or you will break countless hearts.
I am forever grateful & thankful for you- - Because if it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be the man that I am today. But somewhere along the line, you lost sight of what mattered- - family…And now here I am, fighting the overwhelming temptation of ‘bitterness’. But I’m going to win this fight, you’ll see. You raised a fighter after all.

Plus, it's like just bad writing if you cannot clearly and skillfully foreshadow the ending.
Idk when we lost sight of how important or vital foreshadowing is to writing but you're actually a terrible fucking writer if you believe the best endings come out of nowhere and are out of the character's control.
Within reason, of course, endings are usually a result of every decision the character has made up until that point- for better or worse. A good writer knows how to communicate the consequences of those decisions in a way that is neutral and non-judgmental and that allows the audience to come to their own conclusions about the people you are portraying in your work.
That's why glass onion works because most of the audience will go into it thinking that the main characters are worth empathizing with based on the inherent promises that are baked into storytelling right? BUT the techniques used in each scene show us the reality of the situation while still being tainted with the main cast' perspective/bias.
Like, objectively, none of those people were shown to be good people. They were all doing stupid shit at the beginning of the movie but because the story is told from their perspective, you're empathizing more than you would be if you were any other character in that scene- like the assistant for example.
That's what good writing does, it gives you all the facts of a situation but presented through the character's filter that is their subjective mentality or worldview so that ultimately, you're left uncomfortable by how similar you are to people who you probably wouldn't like if you met them yourself in real life or even in their own worlds.
The point of writing is to point out the universal truth that we are all heros in our own story, but reality means that we are all villains in other people's stories as well. You might have all the facts of a situation but you are limited by your own worldview and perspective because you believe you are always well-intentioned.
i think one of the reasons glass onion is so fun is that it just... loves the audience back.
so many popular movies and shows these days thrive on a sort of bitter engagement with their fans - where the fans are dismissed as being stupid, annoying, and needlessly angry. we are constantly positioned as being less intelligent as the writers.
so much of "spoiler-free" movie-making relies on writers getting away with one twist in their work, regardless of if that twist was earned. the work doesn't actually have any rewatch value or interesting writing - because they think "good writing" is about "pulling one over" on the audience. they don't focus on making interesting characters or storylines or good endings - they focus on fooling you. glass onion, meanwhile, has faith that the audience has figured the ending out, and that we'll watch anyway, because we love the characters.
so many adaptions of older works... kind of seem to hate the original work. they're done without passion. they're done almost as if checking off a box. so many of them openly mock the audience for enjoying the original, almost directly telling us that we are fools for ever having loved something.
but glass onion. loves the audience. it knows that many of the people watching are mystery-lovers. it is an homage that feels love towards the original works it references. it knows we also love those works; and instead of trying to disparage those works, it allows us to celebrate them.
one of my favorite things about it - and maybe why i found it so satisfying - is that this movie isn't trying to tell you it's the smartest, bestest, most-clever detective story. instead, it asks itself what is satisfying and exciting for the audience? and actually gives us that payoff. it's bright, colorful, and fucking fun.
just... more of this please. i'm very bored of nihilism and grittiness and "shock value" writing. put the love back in. let us love unironically. have your work say i love you too. thank you for sharing this story.
#in other words i truly hate the classic hero v villain set up most writers use nowadays#kill your heroes#dirty them up#show me consequences#show me unreliable narration#show me some goddamn craft people

Flower Empowered.
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#lan wangji#wei wuxian#lan wunian#The absolute chaos that ensued when Lan Wangji showed up...those girls went wild.#We have to give kudos to narration that takes the form of a bunch of suitor seeking ladies.#They were so loud about being here for the hotties and whispering gossip. You go girls.#Wei Wuxian most likely just picked up a already tossed flower to throw. Second hand flowers...are still flowers I suppose.#Can you imagine if LWJ had allergies? Poor lad.#Okay it's time for the real gritty discussion point. The one everyone is waiting for me to talk about:#So...from where we are in the timeline...what the hell is WWX supposed to be wearing?#I'm serious. Put all the fanart out of your brain for a moment.#We are post burial grounds and sunshot campaign so he's had his little goth moment reveal.#*BUT* he is still with the Jiang sect. And by proxy of this flashback talking about his disrespect - they never bring up his attire.#meaning he is likely in some kind of Jiang Purple.#Continuity wise it really feels like this scene should have been *before* the burial mounds.#I understand why it's post - we need to build up on the mystery of how he became the YLLZ.#But also his personality feels way more 'pre-burial mounds WWX'. I think this was probably a 'I don't want to kill my darling' scene.#(The Phoenix mountain flashback is a lot of people's 'darling'. I am knowingly putting myself in the line of fire here).#I'm willingly putting him in Wen Qing's borrowed cloak and assuming people take him wearing it as like...a war trophy.#Historians will revise this moment later on but for now he *is* a hero of that war.

Batman: You need a new costume. That one provides no protection.
Danny: oh I cant.
Batman: You won’t owe me for it.
Danny: no I literally cant. Like if i remove it it just returns.
Batman:………. Explain.
Danny: look *takes off glove and explodes it into pieces*
*glove reforms on his hand*
Danny: see? Can’t get rid of it. It’ll just heal itself.

You and Tomura meet right after the USJ attack. You don’t know who he is.
You treat him like a person. You’re kind to him and want nothing from him in return.
He’s completely fallen for you, but is taking his time with it, wanting to build up a friendship first. It’s been a long time since he’s had a friend, but fuck he wants more.
After hanging out, the two of you are standing on the sidewalk. He offers to walk you home, but you say your uncle is coming to pick you up. He offers to wait with you and you tell him you’ll be fine.
As you say your goodbyes, you surprise him with a hug. Such a simple act, yet his whole body is warm and tingling as the feeling of your body against his lingers. It’s a feeling he isn’t used to at all, but wants— no— needs to feel again.
Tomura stands on a nearby rooftop, wanting to keep an eye on you anyway. After all, he couldn’t allow anything to ever happen to you— the love of his life.
When the car pulls up, everything seems fine until the door opens and Tomura sees him.
Your uncle.

Man, it's cool and all if you see a metaphor for marginalisation in the monstrous, and if you want the power fantasy of 'what if you could just eat anybody who threatened you/pissed you off'. Me too.
However, as soon as you start saying 'no, these monsters are a 1:1 on Specific Marginalised Group, and you have to treat them in the fiction like they are directly representative of real human members of the marginalised group', BUT you also, in the fiction, make them hurt/kill/eat humans? And then try to shame me, your audience, for noticing or engaging with the bit where they kill people, because you made them directly representative of a real-world marginalised group? You have lost me, and also, I think, the plot.
#hear yourself. for the love of whatever you cherish.#'but they only kill bigots so ACTUALLY they're the GOOD GUYS -' your metaphor of monstrosity is entirely premised on the question of#'what if what you went around righteously killing; believing your actions to be justified;#were actually people and it was not in fact righteous or justified to just kill them'#'what if the world isn't neatly split into 'good guys' and 'bad guys'#who gets to decide who or what is 'bad'? because that's the original problem of monstrosity-as-metaphor-for-marginalisation#(if as a creator you say 'oh my intention with this was X' cool!#if instead you go with something like. well.#'well in this setting monsters are so rare it doesn't matter that they kill people and you'd have to be a homicidal sadistic psychopath >#< to hunt them; but sure I guess if you want to play a Bad Person' well I might have#but if you're going to explicitly judge me for wanting to engage with the moral question of 'how justified is this and who would do it#versus how justified are these monsters if they do have to harm or kill people to continue to exist'#then maybe I just don't want to play your game at all)#anyway I'm sick to death of poor uwu cozy vampires who are SO marginalised so I'm not Allowed to care about all the people they murder#it being fucked up is what's fun about it! do all the other shit but let me take the murders seriously!#and inb4 someone accuses me of being a bigot for saying 'actually I don't think you get a free pass to kill and eat people if you're gay'#remember when the CW's famously reactionary and conservative Supernatural tried to just gloss over the part where every time its heroes >#< killed a demon with a magic knife it also killed the person the demon was possessing#and say 'oh no it's fine we don't care about those killings; they don't matter; don't bother caring about them either'#but they were doing it to glorify exactly the kind of people that these 'monster as metaphor' stories are trying to cast as expendable?#I have other examples that are like. real dramas. but That Paranormal Show is the one that's in the same niche that I'm talking about here#it feels more insidious when it comes through a fantasy show where there are monsters involved#so you can say 'no it's not real so it doesn't matter'#but then ALL of it is equally not real. and vampires are not actually an oppressed group. because they don't exist.#you can say 'these vampires are a metaphor for an oppressed group so this fiction matters in real life'#or you can say 'don't care about the murders because they weren't actually real'#but you can't say both and then get mad at ME for treating the murders as seriously as the vampires#let me engage with your premise and don't waste my fucking time#or just set your fluff in the Sesame Street universe where vampires drink cherry Kool-Aid and help kids learn to count
