his  father  is  the  proud  owner  of  a  yacht  company  that  goes  by  the  name  of  coia  inc.   because  of  this  &  because  of  the  vast  amount  of  kooks  living  in  the  outer  banks,  his  family  has  made  tons  of  money  off  of  it.

stephen  was  always  well - known  at  school,  being  one  of  the  most  popular  guys  at  his  high  school  &  continuing  on  to  be  a  golden  boy  of  the  outer  banks.   he  played  football  in  high  school  &  had  a  knack  for  learning  quickly  about  electronics,  so  he  dipped  his  feet  into  some  graphic  &  web  design.  he  made  websites  for  companies,  teachers,  other  people,  etc,  soon  making  his  own  profit  &  crowning  himself  the  perfect  son  to  his  parents.

he’s  an  only  child  ( now )  &  does  not  associate  himself  with  the  pogues  in  a  public  setting.   his  attitude  is,  in  fact,  quite  sour.   stephen  has  a  god  complex  at  times  because  of  the  praise  he’d  always  been  given.   people  feared  him  in  high  school  because  his  impulsive  need  for  revenge  always  got  the  worst  of  him  –––   trashing  houses,  slashing  tires,  handing  in  plagiarized  papers  for  other  students.   that  behavior  filtered  into  his  life  as  an  adult,  as  well.   he  doesn’t  do  well  with  keeping  a  calm  demeanor  &  has  a  bit  of  an  anger  problem.

when  he  was  twenty,  his  brother  died  in  a  car  accident.   a  lot  of  people  around  the  island  knew  about  it  because  of  the  fact  that  his  brother  was  the  one  drunk  driving.   his  brother,  tanner,  was  his  best  friend  because  they  were  only  a  year  apart.   anytime  someone  mentions  him,  stephen  gets  defensive  &  upset.   it  becomes  easy  for  him  to  lose  his  temper,  but  it’s  mostly  because  he’d  never  had  time  to  grieve  properly.

to  curb  the  anger,  he’d  recently  gotten  involved  with  street  fighting.   he  &  a  small  group  of  pogues  have  an  underground  fight  club  that  isn’t  exactly  legal  in  the  outer  banks,  so  they  all  keep  their  mouths  shut  about  it.   it  helps  relieve  a  lot  of  anger,  but  it  leaves  a  lot  of  people  wondering  how  he’s  always  managing  to  walk  around  with  bruises,  cuts,  and  sore  muscles.  

although  he  was  always  a  jock,  he  was  wicked  smart.  he  still  is.   all  of  his  actions  are  calculated  and  he’s  got  connections  all  over  the  island,  so  he’s  got  knowledge  everywhere.   you  know  how  people  can  be  one  step  ahead  of  you  ?   stephen  is  usually  about   five  steps  ahead  of  you,  if  he  ever  needs  to  be.

Growing up in a wealthy family, Zander knew he could get anything he wanted. He flew by in school and ended up getting into one of the best universities in the country. BORN ON MAY 14, 1998 & RAISED IN THE OUTER BANKS, astra beck knows this place like the back of her hand. although technically, she was born as alexandra marie beck, but no one hasn’t called her that in a long time. being the only daughter of a prostitute and a drug addict, astra was never destined for the “kook” life. she was fending for herself by the tender age of five, as her parents quite literally did not care to interact with her. with that being said, astra has quite the warped view of families and love - not having either for her entire childhood. to her, families are chosen, not born.

VICIOUS INSULTS LACED WITH POISON were frequently inflicted upon her by the two people who were supposed to love her the most - her parents. you see, the two were never married and had a very toxic relationship, so would often take their anger out on an innocent astra. the young girl retreated into her shell and refused to talk to any of the other kids at school - all because she believed the words her father said the most “ you’ll never amount to anything “. 

WITH NO FRIENDS OR FAMILY TO TURN TO astra sought comfort in her books. reading was a way for her to escape to an alternate reality, a place where young girls were brave and could fight off the most terrifying monsters. by the time she was 9, she spent most afternoons at the public library, staying there until the librarians forced her to head home. 

ONE NIGHT IN PARTICULAR, astra had just gotten back to her family’s trailer when she felt something was off. it’s practically unexplainable, but she just knew that something was wrong. her father met her at the door, where he told her that her mother had taken her own life. astra didn’t say a word. but what was she supposed to do? she was barely 13 years old - she couldn’t process it. 

A WEEK LATER, AT THE FUNERAL, astra still hadn’t spoken a word to her father. in all honestly, she was terrified of him. his way of coping was violence, and astra was the target. this was when the physical abuse started. once her father was drunk, there was no going back. it didn’t happen too often, but some nights, astra’s father would come home, the smell of alcohol reeking off his body, and he’d hit her.

TOO SCARED TO GET HELP, astra simply let it all happen. soon, her father started disappearing more, sometimes being gone for a week at a time. astra was never told where he was going, but was given $50 and instructions on how to buy food for herself. she’d stay home alone sometimes, but she also stayed at friends houses.

WHEN IT CAME TO SCHOOL, astra was always the top of her classes. even though she was bullied for her tiny malnourished figure and the fact that she lived out of a trailer, she maintained a 4.0 average and never turned an assignment in late. she especially excelled in coding and math classes though - where she found her passion truly lies. to get extra cash, she often tutored student, even kooks, in those classes.

HER FRIENDS WERE HER ROCKS, they kept her sane and made sure she had a place to sleep at night. she loves them more than anything in the world. they were typical teens - spending late nights on the beach, getting drunk off their parents alcohol, fucking around...

WHEN SHE WAS 17 YEARS OLD, her father left and never returned. no note, no explanation, nothing. obviously, astra didn’t care too much - they had never been close. it was, however, concerning for the school when he didn’t show up for her parent-teacher conferences. so, astra worked up an elaborate lie and wrote down the address of a friend’s house for where she was living. if they knew the truth, astra would’ve been forced into a foster home, and there was no way in hell she was doing that. besides, she’d been self-sufficient for most of her life anyways.

NOW, astra has been working as a mechanic for the past four years. you name it, she can fix it, or at least get it looking pretty again. on the side, she’s a mild kleptomaniac, and enjoys stealing shit from kooks for fun. additionally, she’s an expert hacker, and can get you any information on anyone, can hack into security systems, and can access bank accounts. in terms of relationships, she’s pretty reserved and non-trusting. she’s just afraid of people leaving her like her parents did. lastly, she’s lowkey into drug dealing? but only when she needs the extra cash.

a tree fell on the restaurant, and severely damaged it. they couldn’t pay to repair it, which caused his dad to spiral. he became an alcoholic before eventually leaving the family without a word

his mom spiraled into a depression, so he had to take charge. he had to work to pay the bills, and take care of his siblings 

he was a smart kid, but he was working morning and night, so he didn’t have time to do his homework

gideon’s dream was always to go to college out-of-state, and just explore and travel the world, but he never even applied to college because he felt like he needed to stay home and care for his family

he moved to his own place, but he still gives a lot of money to his family. he is a fisherman and has even won a few fishing competitions. he’s a cook as well

he cares a lot about his family, but he is really resentful towards them for how his life turned out. gideon buries those feelings by really throwing himself into his work. he’s exhausted(tm) all the time. he lowkey still wants to travel the world, but doesn’t have any expectations that that will ever happen

Born November 28th, Lyla Nicole grew up in foster care for most of her life. From what she was told, her mother was young and didn’t have the resources to take care of a baby so she was put into the system. Jumping from home to home, Lyla didn’t really have a staple relationship with people. She had come and gone from homes, and no one in her life really stuck out to her. She became very independent from the time she was 11. She is very hot-headed, and most of the time has an attitude, therefore she didn’t really do well in her foster homes growing up.

About 8 foster homes later, when she was 14, she ended up at a foster home with Bill and Sherry in Outer Banks. She never really had the best relationship with them, but she stayed because she wanted the independency and didn’t want to move high schools again to be the new girl. trigger warning: during her time in her foster home, her foster father would drink heavily and physically abuse her. She usually seen with a lot of clothing on, just because of the bruises and cuts she gets. end trigger warning

High school was easy. Lyla was smart, and always excelled in academics, but she really took towards art. She was a big artist, and loved to sketch. That became her sole passion for most of high school. 

She has a hard time opening up, and usually ends up sounding snarky, but she is an extremely loyal girl who loves people. She doesn’t necessarily show her love, but she has a ton of muse and sketches people she ends up enjoying. During high school, she did open up to one person. Gabriel Morales. A boy she never would’ve seen herself falling for, but she ended up doing it anyway. He was the only person that she could truly take down her walls and be herself. She does has a girly side. She doesn’t show it much, but she is a true hopeless romantic. 

Lyla had decided she wanted to go to college. She was able to get a full ride to an art school, but it happened to be in California. Her and Gabriel decided to do long distance but it didn’t really work out. Now here she is, out of college, and deciding to come back to OBX because that was the first place that truly felt like home. 

Currently, Lyla is part of the security team at the country club. She takes her job seriously, and even has befriended some of the kooks, but really she’s loyal to the pogues. She lives in her own run down apartment, and probably has some roommates.

heyo folks it’s dolly back at it again with character #2! below is a bit about catherine!

catherine louise king is 21 years old and originally from baton rouge, louisiana

she’s the oldest of three children, having a younger brother, connor, who’s 18 and a younger sister, caroline, who’s 7

the house she grew up in was a plantation-style home with large trees lining the long driveway, along with a garden and flowing creek out back

even though she was a vibrant child who thrived being around other people, catherine was rarely allowed out of the house. she and her brother were kept inside, hidden away from the world unless it was to their parent’s benefit to have them come out. christopher and claire king were extremely religious, and they were convinced that the only way to keep their children safe from a world filled with sin was to keep them in the house, only allowing them to be around those who they deemed appropriate

catherine and connor were allowed to be around people twice a week - sunday mornings and wednesday evenings during church services, and they were expected to remain quiet during those times. if they were lucky, christopher and claire would be hosting a party at some point during the week, in which case they were allowed to mingle with the guests that filled their home, though they only spoke if they were spoken to first

they were home schooled and had a private tutor, but the education they got was far from decent. most of their lessons revolved around religion, leaving out the important things that most other children were learning in a classroom. catherine’s lucky to be able to do basic math, read, spell, and write. if her father had his way, she would’ve been kept in the dark about those things, wanting her to be dumbed down enough that a man from their church would want to marry her as soon as she was 18 and continue her confinement 

when she was 5, her parents allowed her to pick one thing she wanted to do. she’d seen so many recitals on tv, listened to so much classical music, that her immediate choice was ballet. each and every week they drove her into town for dance lessons, deciding that it was safe for her to attend them since her class was filled with other girls, no boys there to corrupt their innocent daughter. she kept up with her lessons for years, holding onto the activity because it was the only time she was allowed around other people her age

catherine and connor were allowed outside in their backyard for a few hours every day once their schooling was finished for the afternoon, giving them the freedom to run around in the garden and play down by the creek, moments that both of them cherished because the walls of the house made them feel too cramped, too closed in, despite the fact that the house itself was huge and there was plenty of room inside to run and play

when she was 14, caroline came into the picture. catherine was expected to take care of her during the day while her parents were away at work and, being a girl who never grew out of her baby dolls, she absolutely adored being able to take care of her little sister

the three children were kept hidden away inside that house for so many years, all of them pale and stick thin, almost always a little sick for one reason or another. but then something terrible - or wonderful, depending on how you look at it - happened. connor got an idea, one he kept to himself and will take to the grave. he was on the tail end of his 16th year and something in him had changed, he had the awfullest desire to get out of that house, and he was going to get his sisters out, too. one night in the dead of winter, a fire was started in the living room, originating from the fireplace. little did anyone know, connor was the one who started the fire, and had been planning it for months, just waiting for the perfect moment. he went quickly to wake catherine and caroline, getting them both outside before the house was completely engulfed in flames. their parents had been in bed sleeping soundly, neither of them suspecting a thing, and that’s where they passed away. catherine still has no idea what her brother did, and caroline is too young to understand it completely 

the three of them grieved as children will do for their parents, but catherine felt as though a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. at 19 years old, she was finally free to walk outside in the sunshine, no time limitations and no one yelling at her to get back in the house. after the funeral, it came to light that they were set to inherit quite a large chunk of change. between the house insurance and their parent’s life insurance, along with the savings in the bank, the king children came out of the ordeal with more than they bargained for. sure, they lost their parents, but they came out on top with how much money they inherited - and they were free, no longer being held prisoner in a house that never felt like home

catherine went through the process of getting legal custody of her two siblings, not wanting them to be separated, and that was settled with ease. once the court case was settled and the money was safe in a bank account, catherine moved her siblings to north carolina, settling them down in the outer banks

they’ve lived there for the last year, still settling and adjusting to life in the outside world, and it’s extremely weird for them. catherine still struggles with talking to people, hardly ever initiating a conversation and instead waiting for others to talk to her first, but she’s doing her best to adjust and make the best of the situation

she currently works as a ballet instructor at the local dance studio, taking her passion for what she loves and turning it into a job even though she has enough money to live on without holding a steady job

catherine is far too innocent for her own good, and extremely socially inept, so she needs some friends to help her come out of her shell a little bit, as well as teach her some life lessons that she should’ve been learning as a teenager

HE WAS DESTINED TO BE THE GOLDEN BOY OF OUTER BANKS FROM THE START. born on october 8th as the eldest son of the daniels family, wesley has had a lot of pressure on him to be great from the start. his father was an affluent lawyer and his mother ran a hotel on the figure eight, meaning that everyone knew who they were. it was hard to miss them anyways, their large white mansion could be recognized from anywhere.

AT LEAST ON THE OUTSIDE, THINGS WERE PERFECT. the daniels family seemed to have everything put together, but it was all a lie. truthfully, the family was falling apart. his parents marriage was failing, and wesley wasn’t performing well in school. being born with dyslexia meant that he was not a fast learner, and his grades represented that. his parents were very hard on him, and it made him super self-conscious. he really did try his hardest, but it was never good enough. 

PERSONALITY-WISE, wesley was, and still is, super outgoing. he loves making friends, but only on the kook side. his parents had drilled into him the idea that pogues were nothing but trash, and that they don’t deserve his respect. it was harsh, but it was what he grew up believing. from elementary school all the way to high school, wesley was a bully. he was anything but nice to the pogues, and has had his fair share of physical fights with them as well. 

THE STAR SOCCER PLAYER. wesley has been playing soccer since he was six, and he’s really really good. like, was given offers to play for ivy leagues good. those offers feel through, however, when the colleges found out about the fact that he was practically failing every single class. too prideful to accept tutoring, wesley let his grades fall, and eventually had to settle for the local college team. 

EVEN AFTER YEARS OF BEING UNDER EXTREME PRESSURE, he’s still an asshole. like...he just is. maybe it’s all just a cover-up for his hidden insecurities, but he’s cocky and a bit rude, and will go to great lengths to get what he wants - most of the time being girls. he’s a total player, and honestly takes a different girl home each night. essentially, he’s still in his frat-boy phase.

HIS BIG SECRET. he’s bi. but only two people know that: his parents. he wasn’t planning on telling anyone, but when his parents walked in on his making out with a boy, the topic was a bit unavoidable. there was screaming and crying on both sides, and now his relationship with his parents is even more strained than before. but he hides his attraction to men well, and is determined to keep it hidden.

A TOTAL DRUGGIE. honestly, i don’t know when the last time wesley was sober for more than a week. being the total party-boy he is, he’s frequently getting drunk and or high to “ escape the pain of the real world “. he gets involved with some bad people because of it too. he often times gets in fights with the people he owes money to or vice versa. additionally, he doesn’t really do relationships. he’ll manipulate people to get them to sleep with him, and then never respond to their texts.

he and his dad never got along, since his dad is always getting married and divorcing for messing up, like he did with logan's mom; who died when he was 3 and logan didn't know her much

because of the complicated relationship he had with his family, logan is not used to having relationships that last, resulting in several dating and friendships destroyed by the boy's own destructive behavior

his major in college is business, and he hates it, but it stops his dad from bothering him, even if he barely attends his classes; considering that his father is super rich, he doesn't care much
