"You Are Inside Your Heart" is a video portrait of Benny Urban.

Benny has been out shooting for this film alongside the Vans Snow Team across Europe during the last two and a half years.

Shot on location in Norway, Finland, Austria, Slovakia, and Germany.

For this film we united with director Alexander Tank who’s one of Benny’s best childhood friends who was a former Snowboard Pro himself and is now a successful movie director.

Benny: "It’s been such an incredible opportunity to have had so much creative freedom on creating a film with Vans. It’s probably been the craziest two years of my life since our daughter was born right in the middle of the project. It’s the best thing that has ever happened to me and throughout this whole filming process, I was learning so much about fatherhood and simultaneously trying to power through with this project and continuing my life as a professional snowboarder."

Seitsemän veljestä luettu, lopputunnelmat:

Mä tiedän että kirjallisuuden klassikot voi (yleensä aivan ansaitusti) olla tomuisia, pönöttäviä ja luotaantyöntäviä mutta ihmiset. Ihmiset. Seitsemän veljestä on oikeesti ihan sairaan hyvä, se on hauska ja edelleen moderni 150 vuotta myöhemmin ja henkilöhahmot on valloittavia ja kieli on rikasta!!!!111 SE ON MESTARITEOSSSSSSS

Enivei. Ensimmäiset kaksi kolmasosaa ovat varmaan ne teoksen mukaansatempaavimmat. Siellä on kaikki ikonisimmat kohtaukset lukkarin tuvasta hiidenkiveen saakka. Viimeinen sata sivua onkin sitten sellaista laskettelua rauhalliseen loppuelämän suvantoon.

Ikonisista kohtauksista puheen ollen: on hauskaa miten ne on yleisessä tietoisuudessa vähän jähmettyneet paikalleen, niiden syyt ja seuraukset on unohdettu tai niitä ei ole käyty läpi ollenkaan. Vain teoksen itse lukemalla pääsee käsiksi näihin herkempiin helmiin!!

Ei voi kuin ihastella sitä miten Kivi rakentaa veljesten persoonat. Totta kai heidän luonteenpiirteitään selitetään auki, mutta samaan aikaan ne välittyvät epäsuorasti jokaisesta repliikistä.

Aikanaan inhosin Juhania, joka oli mielestäni veljessarjan rasittavin itkupotkuraivareineen. Nyt olen tehnyt hahmon kanssa rauhan. Juhanin herkkänahkaisuus ja puolelta toiseen heilahteleva mielenlaatu ohjaa kaikkea mitä hän tekee, hänen käytöksensä on loogista—jos ei kenenkään muun mielestä, niin ainakin Juhanin.

Veljeksistä tulee yhteiskuntakelpoisia, mutta he eivät kuitenkaan kasva aivan tajuttomasti teoksen aikana. He säilyttävät hyvät ja huonot puolensa. Isäntä-Juhani menettää edelleen hermonsa, aviomies-Lauri karkailee edelleen metsään, peräkammarin poika-Simeoni on edelleen epävakaa. Aikuinen Eero on saanut kanavoitua terävän kielensä kirjallisiin harrastuksiin (btw, päteekö Eero kaikesta kaikille aikuisena siksi, että se ei veljessarjan nuorimpana saanut päättää mistään?). On jotenkin lohduttavaa, että veljeksistä ei muovata yli-ihmisiä, vaan he ainoastaan saavat (suurimmilta osin) elämänsä hallintaan.

Kirjan loppua kohden tulee aina melankolinen olo. Siinä vaiheessa kun viimeinen tappelu toukolaisten kanssa on käyty, leijuu ilmassa jo rauhoittumisen merkit. Kun Impivaaran ympäröivistä metsistä alkaa loppua riista ja veljekset alkavat viljellä maata, tietää arjen alkaneen. Teoksen lopussa on vaikea kuvitella veljesten enää pelaavan kiekkoa keskenään, tai syömässä kilokaupalla häränlihaa, tai vetämässä päivien mittaisia kännejä. Alussa elo Impivaarassa on melkein kuin kesäleirillä, joka ei koskaan pääty. Meno jatkuu pitkään samanlaisena—sitten on vuorossa suhteellisen nopea aikuistuminen ja sarja moraalisia oppitunteja, jotka säikäyttävät veljekset ruotuun. Kun veljekset nauttivat viimeisistä kesäilloista Impivaaralla, tulee lukijallekin surkea olo.

Finnish phrases

Since it is our independence day, I thought I'd give a funny af Finnish phrase for you non-Finns. (As a note, from Uusimaa, if I get the terminology wrong, please feel free to correct me.) Vastarannan Kiiski (lit. The Opposite shore Eurasian Ruffe)- Someone who always disagrees with everything. Now, the name itself is a pun, as kiiski sounds a lot like kiista (argument), so most likely the fish was put there to rhyme better. But the reason it is the Opposite Shore Ruffe, is the kicker. See, in Finland, there is a tradition of owning a summer cabin, regardless of your class. Since we like swimming, fishing, and the sauna, these cabins are often next to a lake. Now, since everyone wants to have lake access, there are others at a (respectable) distance from your cabin. As an aside, water is is a great sound amplifier. Essentially, people would argue with each other across the lake. Enough that it became a joke. Thus, the Opposite Shore Ruffe is the guy from another cabin yelling BACK at you. You don't see them, but by god you HEAR them.
