Prince and the Frog KiinCuzz!

One of the prompts I selected was to write a retelling of the classic fairytale of the Prince(ss) and the Frog, so I did exactly that. Honestly, I'm quite proud of it! I love writing fantasy + royalty AUs, and Prince Cuzz alongside Prince Bdd was so much fun to write.

Hi ao3oner! I really enjoyed reading your works (especially WKFA, specifically MSI) and wanted to ask if you have any ship/hc for Kiin? Just curious if there was anything more behind (the very delicious bondage) KiHends or if you envision Kiin with anyone else. Or if you don't, that's fine too!

Thank you so much for reading and for the ask! Sorry that it took me forever to get back to you - to tell the truth, I'm currently working on a Kiin-centric WIP that I was hoping to finish and post before replying because it's so relevant, but I think I still need a few more days on it and I felt bad about leaving this unanswered for so long. So, here we go! Let's talk about Kiin and his relationship with Lehends, intimacy, etc.!

See, I consider myself to be a huge fan of a certain specific flavor of KiiHends. Unfortunately, that happens to be a different flavor than most other enjoyers of the ship whom I've spoken to, on account of the fact that I strongly believe that Kiin is not romantically attracted to Lehends. Like, not in the slightest. Now, does that necessarily mean that Kiin isn't sexually intimate with Siwoo? Of course not! That's where the fun part comes in:

The part I like most about developing this ship is exploring the why. Why does Kiin sleep with Siwoo, even when he very clearly Does Not Want That Man? There are a couple of reasons I've played around with. In my WKFA universe, as implied in the Siwoo Explosion scene, Kiin feels almost obligated to have sex with Lehends. That's not to say that he doesn't enjoy the sex - clearly, he does - but the reason that he does it is less because he enjoys it and more because he thinks it's important for Lehends to have an outlet to let off steam, and WKFA Lehends finds that outlet in the form juggling his many FWB-esque relationships. I think one thing that is very important to Kiin across all universes is performance: he wants to do well in the competitive scene (obviously), but he also wants to be sure that he's doing everything in his power to secure his team's success. If that includes sleeping with a certain promiscuous support so that he can focus up in game, so be it.

An adjacent/additional reason that I think Kiin might sleep with Lehends is to get him off his back for once. Anyone who's seen Kiin and Lehends interact in vods, backstage content, etc. is well aware of the fact that Lehends flirts with Kiin very heavily and messes with him almost non-stop. This angle is more of the hate-sex variety, which is also quite spicy, despite being obviously problematic (I do NOT agree with the message that pestering repeatedly and ignoring the word "no" is a good way to get someone to have sex with you). Tbh, I don't think there's a single version of KiiHends that's not at least a bit problematic, though.

That kind of feeds into a third KiiHends hook up reason that I'm a big fan of: the rebound angle. I am of the opinion that a major reason that Lehends flings himself so heavily at Kiin is because he's trying to fill the void that Ruler left in his heart (and between his legs), and I think in turn part of the reason that Kiin rejects him so adamantly at first is because he knows. Kiin knows that Siwoo doesn't actually love him for him - he's just trying to find someone to warm his bed until he can either get back together with or get over Jaehyuk. But what if Kiin also had someone like that? Not so much an ex, but someone who he was too afraid to ever start a proper relationship with, someone he had feelings for, but he refused to ever act on them for fear of ending up with a broken heart? That's another avenue that I absolutely love for them - that Kiin knows that Siwoo is just using him sexually, but it's fine because he gets to use Siwoo right back. And they both pretend they're fine. *chef's kiss* I've strongly considered writing a short fic about them having this type of relationship.

Now, you might also be wondering if I have any alternative, healthier relationship prospects for our beloved Kiin, to which I will reply by honestly saying that I have never seen Kiin happier than when he is looking at Moon Woochan. I think Cuzz is cute, sweet, and overall a very good match for Kiin's more walled-in personality. I know there are only a handful of fellow KiinCuzz fans out there, but they just so happen to be some of the coolest people I've ever met - that explains why every single one of the KiinCuzz fics on AO3 is an absolute banger. No leaks or spoilers, but a new one might join their roster in the next week or so...

a ranking of your favorite ships and what you like most about them

Hi, and thanks so much for the ask! Really tough question - I feel like the rankings definitely shift around a lot depending on what I'm writing at the moment, but for LoL RPF ships, if I had to provide a top 3, it'd be:

CanMaker - Kim "Canyon" Geonbu x Heo "ShowMaker" Su

If you asked me a year ago what my favorite LoL RPF ship was, I would not have said CanMaker, despite the fact that they were my first-ever ship for the fandom. Writing for them has really increased my fondness for the pairing, though, because - I think I've said this on here before - I find CanMaker the easiest ship to write since their dialogue and interactions come so naturally. They are a very cozy, comfortable ship, with the crux of their relationship being how well they've come to understand each other through years of working alongside one another. Even if they're a bit unclear on where they stand with each other, they will always anticipate each other's wants and needs. They aren't quite a childhood friends-to-lovers ship (which reminds me: read 'so-called "friend"'), but it almost feels that way since they debuted at roughly the same time and grew up as players together. That's not to mention that they also fit the big x small and quiet x loud tropes very well - they really are a gentle giant x small gremlin pairing, and I love that for them. Overall, I like them because they're fun to write and have a very sweet dynamic, and they have the type of relationship that I one day hope to have.

2. RuLehends - Park "Ruler" Jaehyuk x Son "Lehends" Siwoo

Ruler and Lehends, on the other hand, have a type of relationship that I hope I never have, yet they are so, so fun to read and write because of it. Their relationship is all about give-and-take and banter, it's all tension and build up and eventual explosion in some destructive way or another. The other thing about their relationship is that they both clearly have so much fun with it, like they treat their interactions like a game - watching their old streaming highlights, you definitely get that vibe. Moreover, they just can't leave each other alone - at this point, it's been years since they were together and yet Lehends is still waxing poetic about Ruler's ass and Ruler is still criticizing and teasing Lehends. This relationship is always high, tasty drama, which makes them especially fun to get invested in.

3. One2eus - Moon "Oner" Hyunjoon x Choi "Zeus" Wooje

Talking about One2eus now, for the first time since Zeus's transfer, is kind of bittersweet, but I'm sure the two of them will stay close despite the newfound distance between them. Oner and Zeus have kind of the best of both worlds from the above ships: they have the same foundation of trust and friendship from working alongside each other for years - since Academy - as CanMaker, but they also have the banter and tension of RuLehends, with Zeus acting all bratty and Oner scolding, yet indulging him. I think the moment that I first started shipping them was when I read an interview translation in which Oner called Zeus his "best friend", and I found something very sweet about a decently-social, taekwondo blackbelted, Calvin Klein model of a man saying that his best friend was the fuzzy-haired shut-in maknae with three Challengers League accounts at age 15. I guess this is true of all my top pairings, but it feels especially true here: I also just love Oner and Zeus as characters/people! So, so much. They are both so cute/sweet/funny, and I will miss seeing them interact with each other on a regular basis.

Those three ships comprise my personal S+ tier of LoL RPF ships, but also notable, in the S-tier, we have GumaKeria, KiinCuzz, Zegen, KanMi, and UmMo. I'm more than happy to talk about any of those, if so desired.

Below that, in A-tier, there are a number of other ships that I like, but am significantly less invested in, such as bddker, fakenut, mapo duo, maolan, doper, pernut, vihends, etc. Then, there are the B-tier ships, which I only like in a very specific context/flavor, such as choker, lushow, and kiihends. C-tier is for the ships that I personally don't vibe with for whatever reason, and F-tier is only for ships with uncomfortable age gaps and/or pedophiles involved. If you're ever curious about my personal ranking of any LoL RPF ship, don't hesitate to ask! I will gladly vent about my opinions upon request lmao.

can you talk more about some of your S-tier ships(KiinCuzz, Zegen, Kanmi, and Ummo)? i really really enjoy your characterization of your main ships(CM RL OZ GK) and i want to hear more about the ships that you havent written a lot about yet!

Of course I'm happy to talk about them, thank you for asking! I'm so glad that you like my characterizations of my main ships, and I'd love to share my reads on/what I like about some of my less common ones :)

KiinCuzz - Kim "Kiin" Giin x Moon "Cuzz" Woochan

There was a post on here before where someone asked if I had a preferred ship for Kiin, and I replied that I've never seen him happier than when he's looking at Moon Woochan. That's still true: there are so many good pics of him giving Cuzz a wide, fond, gummy smile. I think the main thing I like about KiinCuzz is that, because Kiin is someone who struggles a lot with affection - receiving it, giving it - if he's ever going to be in a healthy relationship, it needs to be with someone who is very caring, very patient, and understands boundaries. Fortunately, Cuzz has all three of those qualities. There's this one clip of them after a match where Woochan wants a hug, so he smiles and holds out his arms for one, but he doesn't force anything - he just asks and waits. Kiin takes a moment, then tosses his heat pack to the side and goes straight in for the hug, pulling Cuzz close, and my heart bursts just about every time I watch that. There are a million other small moments of them that I love - Cuzz getting caught on camera whispering "Kiinie's cute" to himself, the two of them locking eyes during Lehends's antics and sharing a laugh, them sneaking off to a Discord call with just the two of them during team practice - but that hug is always the moment that sticks with me most. It makes me feel like Cuzz is exactly the type of lover that Kiin needs, and fortunately for Kiin, Cuzz seems to be positively smitten with him in return.

As you may know, I have already written one fic for them - a prince and the frog AU titled "See This Heart (It Leaps for You)" - so if you haven't read that yet, def check it out! I also ghostwrote (shadowwrote? Idk if there's a better term for it) a KiinCuzz fic for my friend BebeScorpio - she came up with the plot and details and I just wrote it out for her - so that's also on my AO3 account if you're interested! Also, check out the KiinCuzz works by oathsworn if you haven't had the chance - she's the leading authority on the ship imho.

Zegen - Kim "Zeka" Geonwoo x Hwang "Kingen" Seonghoon

2022 ships my beloveds... The thing about writing zegen for me is that I'm always afraid that I'll himbo-fy them too much, but then I watch the old vods of them massaging each other's backs or play-punching each other's pecs and I'm like... no... they really are just like that. This ship is the LoL RPF version of the "slowly taking the b out of our bromance" trope, typical beefcake 4 beefcake pairing with the added bonus of Zeka being the cute maknae top while Kingen is the more mature, older bottom... Very fun pairing, a good balance of sweet and hot, and you know what they say: ships that win Worlds together stay together :)

KanMi - Seo "Kanavi" Jinhyuk x Lou "MISSING" Yunfeng

KanMi, as you may have noticed, is the only LPL pairing I listed in my previous post, which is honestly a bit of a mistake - I have a handful of other LPL ships that I enjoy that should have gone in A or B-tier (BinElkOn shenanigans, recently JackeyLove x Meiko.... MeikLove? Is that their ship name??), but KanMi was my first and favorite LPL ship, probably because I actually know next to nothing about the LPL and only briefly indulged while Ruler was there. Which brings me to JDG dynamics: Kanavi, who I've written a couple times across a few of my fics, is someone who I love to death, but I also love writing him as a complete asshole. He's arrogant, he's bossy, he's blunt, and whenever he deigns to show affection, it's always in an indirect way, with actions rather than words. Missing, on the other hand, is a very interesting character to me in the way that he's simultaneously fragile and not. He's small and dainty, but he stands his ground. He swears, he teases, he's not a pushover, and yet he's always very accommodating to his teammates' desires and places a very heavy burden on himself to perform at a high level, taking his failings personally whenever he falls short of expectations. With that in mind, KanMi as a ship has the potential to be a very spicy pairing, with Kanavi taking whatever he wants from a Missing who will gladly give it to him, but will internally question whether he'll ever be enough for JDG's demanding emperor. Meanwhile, Kanavi is smitten with Missing, but refuses to acknowledge it in any way because that could be seen as weakness. Overall, that's the premise of the ship, which you can get some of in my smut one-shot Typing "Jungle Diff" in All-Chat, if you're interested!

UmMo - Um "UmTi" Sunghyun x Park "Morgan" Ruhan

Finally, we have the happy ldr (and another 2022 ship!) in UmMo. These two are honestly so sweet, with all the constant skinship they shared back when they were together on BRO, how they still keep in touch (albeit not literally) despite the region gap between them, and UmTi's insistence that Morgan's "not cute" being firmly contrasted by the fond smile he gets every time he sees Morgan's face. I think another fan said this first, but I'll echo the thought: all LoL RPF ships should aim to be more like UmMo: open, affectionate, and supportive of each other's success.

So those are my S-tier ships! While I would not be too shocked if I wrote a fic or two for any of these pairings, for the most part I imagine they'll be relegated to references and background pairings, simply because I love all my S+ ships so much and have a mile-long list of ideas to get through for them. If anyone else writes for any of these ships, though, know that I'll love them forever and will be reading and enjoying every word!
