Sonic Prime Finale

Anyway, overall? The season was pretty good, and I enjoyed it. I did binge it all in one sitting, so that was fun.

Also (me being an Amy Rose Stan) I LOVE TEAM ROSE 2.0!!!!!!!!

I felt like Shadow popping up everywhere in the first two seasons was annoying, but I really appreciated him this season. SPEAKING of people I appreciate, that first team Eggman fight? I was here for it.

So yeah! This season was pretty good, and I (obviously) enjoyed the Sonamy side of it.

Given what an absolutely shitheel Kyo's dad is it's not really a shocking plot twist that he was abusive to his wife, verbally at least, and that contributed to her suicide, but it also makes it all the more cruelly absurd that everyone blamed Kyo for it. Even as a child, he knew his mother was scared of his true form, and everyone at her funeral blamed him, so why wouldn't he think it was all his fault? Kids can be self-centred, too; not in a selfish way, really, just that kids are still getting to grips with how the world exists outside of themselves. It's why it's common for younger kids to think it's their fault that their parents divorced, because they don't fully understand their parents as individuals or a relationship outside of being parents. But Kyo's older now, able to grasp that not all of his father's vitriol is aimed at him, and it's kinda agonizing but also, good for Kyo at calling that old man out. Good for him, being at 17 far more mature than a grown ass man who's spent over a decade throwing tantrums and blaming a small child for the death of the wife that he insulted and belitted for something she had no control over, and let others do the same. Kyo's outcast status is comparable to a lot of things--a child with a disability that their parents can't cope with, a queer child, even just an unexpected/unplanned child who puts financial strain on the family. The father blames the mother, because she grew this child in her body, so whatever's wrong with them is her fault, right? Humans don't reproduce by parthenogenesis, my dude, and an ancient animal spirit curse is kiiiiiiiiiiinda out of anyone's control. Kyo didn't do anything but be born; you're the shitbag who could have chosen to support your wife and instead chose to do pretty much the exact opposite.

Odeline Backstory

CW for sexual abuse towards a minor

Odeline's parents were of the Qerel tribe, exiled for becoming "Taken," and wandered the land for a place they could continue their nomadic tradition, while also avoiding the Garlean Empire. They thus found themselves on the plains of Coerthas, alongside others such as Sidurgu's family...... They were, of course, slaughtered by Ishgardians believing them to be Dravanian, though Ser Ompagne saved Sid and Odeline. Sidurgu, then 11, decided to become Ompagne's disciple. Odeline, only 8, declined the knight's invitation, fearful of what walking the path of a Dark Knight might mean (also. she was 8. what the fuck.)

Ompagne found an orphanage on the outskirts of Coerthas that would take her in despite being Au Ra, though little did he know that her hell started then. Humiliated daily, forced to do hard manual labor, and neglected, this was Odeline's life at the orphanage. Many a time did she seek to run away, only to find herself unsuited to surviving the elements by her lonesome, only to return and be punished horrifically for her actions.

This changed one day when Odeline was 14, when a well off Ishgardian priest sought to adopt her. She was transported from a life of hardship and humiliation to a cushy life in Foundation. He veils her to protect her from unwanted eyes in Ishgard. Upon his recommendation, she begins to study at Saint Endalim's Scholasticate. Unbeknownst to her, in reality, her "savior" is a pervert with a hardon for "correcting" a "dravanian" to be moral and pure and then taking that "dravanian" to bed with him. As she, unfortunately, soon finds out.

She lives like this for 5 long years, taught that being good and obedient will save her from the pain she suffered in her past, all while praying every night for the Fury to punish her "father" for his transgressions........ and every day he is not punished, starting to believe that this is what she deserves as it is the Fury's apparent will. Until, one day, her "father" is persecuted for being a heretic. He and his wife (yes, that bitch was married - he sent her for schooling also as plausible deniability about his intentions for her) are executed as heretics by First Inquisitor Charibert........ though Odeline does not know this at the time. This accusation seemingly coming out of the blue make her believe that Halone really does have a plan. Her trial - not being blood related to the heretic in question - 1. outs her as an Au Ra to the society at large and 2. is a major ordeal for Ishgardian law because it's kind has never been seen before. It's like. A Whole Thing. It cumulates in a trial by combat with Odeline winning with her prodigious magics (also Hydaelyn's favorite child, warrior of light, etcetc)

However, her schooling at the Scholasticate is put into question as her recommendation was written by a heretic....... and besides, she has no money to continue her schooling. Haumeric, a friend of her "father's" as he knew him as a fellow clergyman, and believing his designation as heretic as well as his execution to be an unjustified act of violence by the malevolent Charibert, takes pity on his "daughter," Odeline, and offers to complete her schooling on his recommendation and his coin. She takes his offer and graduates to become an acolyte.

She showed significant potential as an astrologian in her schooling, and so puts up with Jannequard and practices "heretical" astrology alongside traditional Ishgardian astrology in order to "get in good" with one of House Durendaire, constantly fearing for her own persecution should she be anything less than the perfect church Sister.

Even though the time has long since passed for Ishgardians to slaughter Au Ra indiscriminately, her heritage means that Ishgard kiiiiiiiiiiinda wants her dead, frequently ordering her into dangerous places to "chart the stars" hoping she will not come back.

Charibert also wants to persecute her soooooooooooooooooooo badly. She's "the one that got away." His white whale so to speak.

Anyway basically the tl;dr is:

birth-8 traveling with her parents to find a place where they won't be killed

8-14 living in hell orphanage

14-19 hell existence living a "cushy" life but sexually and emotionally (and sometimes physically, if she acted out) abused by her "father"

19-23 finally able to live a "free" life though she's shackled by the trauma of her past and hellbent on 1. being the goodest good church girl she can be bc surely that will ensure her continued survival and 2. if 1. does not work, getting in the good graces of whatever clergy/noble she can will surely save her in that event

Bethany is so effing interesting tbh, as to me, she is the only "ordinary mage" companion we get in the series.

Everyone else is sort of involved in something Grand, more so than themselves to a degree. Nobles, Ancient magics and politics. Bethany?

Bethany is just an ordinary girl. She wants a normal, steady life that's quiet with her family. But she's a mage. She's doesn't get to HAVE that. She feels her family is always on the run because of her, always hiding because of her.

So she looks at her magic and hates it, and I LOVE her arc about it if you play it tbh. (Fenris also likes Bethany, which is interesting)

You'd love Bethany a lot. I feel it in my bones.

Hi! Sorry for the late response😅😅 BUT UHH, WOW! I will admit, I know next to nothing about Bethany outside of reading her banter with a few characters while I was looking at their wikis for writing refs. I always thought she sounded sweet, but I don't think I ever got a good idea of what her personality and story was actually like. But this??? I must say, I am very intrigued 👀 I am so very fond of mages who are just regular people, but thus far I've pretty much only experienced that through OCs. I would LOVE to see how that could play out in a game 🥺 I like Carver quite a bit but the vibes seem veeeery different, of course.😅 Though I had Carver become a templar by accident in my first playthrough and I'll have him become one on purpose in my current one so I'm not completely sure what his personality is like as a warden... I assume still very different lol Perhaps when I'm done with my fic for the Big Bang and have more tune I'll boot up a new playthrough :D I am on my second mage playthrough atm but I kiiiiiiiiiiinda wanna add a little rogue playthrough on the side just so I can see her and get to know her!! I think she seems fun.

what are some endings you hope the characters will be getting? Rey as a Jedi or Poe as a fleet commander or whatever. just pls rant about how you'd want these character arcs to end 💖💖

under a cut for obvious reasons (in case of potential spoilers)

So, for each of the mains, here are some general ideas. I’m open to multiple different endings, so I’ll try to encapsulate most of my common ideas or themes.

1. Rey: I want Rey to be free and independent. I don’t think she necessarily has to re-institute the Jedi order, since we know that the original Jedi order had... problems. For an order dedicated to peace and balance, there sure was a lot of manipulation and lying and violence, and I think Rey now has to understand that it’s time for the Jedi to be over and a new world to grow: a world of freer people, and an understanding that anyone can use the Force and they don’t have to be afraid or trapped or forced into something they don’t want to be. I feel like Rey should be allowed to travel and see the galaxy, since she was never allowed to. I don’t really want a romantic ending for her-- I think it would be deeply out of character and VERY sexist to limit her into a romance-- and I feel like either she, Poe, or Lando deserve to keep the Falcon. Rey taking the Falcon and traveling all over the Galaxy to help spread freedom and help teach young Force-users how to control their powers? That would be so cool. Mostly, I just want Rey to have a chance to be a person, not a pawn, and not trapped. She deserves to be free. I also really want to see her kick Kylo’s ass SO hard. 

Poe: I think that the Resistance will probably always be part of his life, but I also believe that, in some capacity or another, Poe will become a leader outside of military ranks. While he’s always been a military man, I think the Resistance will inevitably be re-joined with the Republic if the Republic becomes the major galactic governance. But I don’t know if Poe can go back to being a government worker. He’s a free spirit, too, and very adventurous, so I can see him also embarking on a life of exploration. Maybe he and the trio of Finn, Rey, and maybe Rose become an adventuring team? I’d love to see him be promoted or rise in the ranks, of course, but I also want to see him become a fuller, rounder person outside of the military, and to have a personal life finally free to be happy. Also, he and BB-8 HAVE to stick together. I’ll be devastated if they part ways! I think I’d like to see Poe get promoted, and help save the galaxy and free planets from the rule of the First Order, and once that’s done, finally have a life of his own. I don’t necessarily need (or want) a canonical romance for him, but I think it’d be nice to imagine him finally being able to give that ring to someone he loves.

Finn: GIVE HIM A NAME. A FULL NAME. And while I do feel that FinnRose was a little shoehorned and forced (probably to combat any FinnPoe shipping, tbh), I do want to see that relationship fleshed out, explored, and brought to fruition. I also feel that Finn deserves to be brought into the Rebellion and made a leader, but also deserves freedom. He’s always been part of someone’s military, someone’s game, and he clearly is tired of that. Hell, he tried to run away from the Rebellion to get to Rey! He cares about his friends more than the organizations he’s serving, so while I’d like to see him form some allegiances, I know that his closest allegiances will always be personal and not organizational. I’m personally a big fan of FinnRey, but I know that’s not likely to get canonized, so I’m perfectly happy with them just being best friends and, hopefully, still seeing one another. I don’t want their journey to be over. They deserve to stay close. I’d love to see him sort of take on the Solo mantle; he’s clearly the closest in relation to Han’s legacy, and I think he deserves to have that same kind of freedom. Finn rights! Also, let HIM get revenge on the First Order. If Hux dies or something, I want it to be Finn who knocks him out of the picture. Finn had the most taken from him by the First Order, and he, out of all of them, deserve to topple it.

Kylo: Dead. LMAO. But, like, seriously, his arc has four ways it can go, in my opinion. 1) A shoehorned redemption. We know they’ve been pushing that ‘there’s more to him!’ and ‘he can change!’, so, eh, we’ll probably see something like that, but if he does a full 180 and becomes a good guy... hm. I won’t buy it, but I’ll abide it. Whatever. 2) Something of a redemption arc, but he sacrifices himself. Kylo may die a hero for some reason. That’d be nice. Dead Kylo AND a redemption arc. Two birds, one stone. 3) He dies a villain. I have this scene in my head of him, like, dangling from a cliff, and Rey offers him her hand, but with his pride and stubbornness and evil, he doesn’t take it, but rather lets go and dies. Bastard. 4) He is killed by Rey. I don’t feel like this one is gonna happen, but, like, it’d be pretty damn sick. The end of his villain plight. I’m really over Kylo and I’d rather the series just move the hell on. Bye, boy.

Leia: I feel really torn about this one. Since Carrie passed, it’d be hard to properly wrap up Leia’s narrative, but I think seeing her at peace would be enough for me. If they have her pass away in this film, I’ll bawl my eyes out, but I’ll understand. Leia means a lot to me in ways I cannot express, but I think you all understand. She’s important to me, and I hope, at the very least, that she is treated with love and respect, and that her narrative leaves us remembering the powerful and beautiful person she was and continues to be.

Luke: I’m sure we’ll see his Force ghost. I’m absolutely certain. I’d like for him, too, to pass calmly on and with peace in his heart. Maybe, if Leia passes, to see their Force Ghosts together-- or, better yet, the whole Trio’s ghosts-- would be really powerful and special to me. I felt like Luke should not have died in TLJ, and it was a bad move, but it would be good to see the Trio together again. I miss them. And I miss Luke. But to see him hopeful and peaceful and to have him know that the galaxy will continue to grow and change and that the Light lives on? I think that would be really, really good.

I have more thoughts, but then this post would get way too long. What do you guys think? What would you want to see for the characters?

hm, I think I'll go a little bit against the grain and imagine a hornblower one here? I think I'd like to see him truly snap more, just absolutely go off the rails, and this seems like the sort of title to imply such a story behind it.

now, I've seen stuff slightly of this nature done before, but I think I'd like to go in a different direction, if only because Creatures and Poeticisms are much more in my wheelhouse in a way that the logistical issues of a naval officer suddenly going rogue are not.

lack of control would have to be at the heart here -- some situation where he's trapped just far enough outside of his usual discomfort zone (it's hornblower after all, I really can't call it a comfort zone...) that his usual systems of operation can't carry him. so I'm thinking this is late-series, when he's already struggling under the weight of many an issue as it is.

whether it's rage or grief or even a major injury that forces him into this situation, it's something he's continuing to struggle with even as he has to navigate polite society on land, perhaps having to hid this sort of werewolfery of emotion from Bush and/or Barbara even as his internal structures start to crumble. maybe he's trying to adapt to a new role of some kind, and is trying as best he can to make all the constructions in his head serve him again even as he starts to realize they're built on a foundation of sand.

now, I can't quite figure out just yet precisely whether that werewolfery is a literal one or not, but either way this one is imagery-heavy, putting as much weight to the meat of the transformation and the feeling, perhaps, of being trapped in a body you're becoming less and less suited to as much as to his emotional struggles here. big claws, big teeth, spilt blood, hot breath, the works. decorous decorated war hero by day, rampaging shambling thing by night.

it shall not come to pass

well, that sounds like some kind of foretelling, so we're talking fates and prophecies and such, so this sounds like a good fit for something flight of the heron!

now, I'm not as up on my folklore as I used to be, and unfortunately, most of the knowledge that I've picked up on divination stuff that might match to that area and time period is pretty much all related to foretelling the identity of one's future husband. (although. I'm sure there is a different fic to be had in that idea. hm hm there's an idea to be played with at some other time.)

this is completely conjecture about how this might actually work, but I think someone who's the son of a seer and, out of all the characters, seems to know his way the best around the superstitious side of things, might go about trying to break a prophecy at the root, if he was given a situation where he had enough time to do so.

now, I've got no idea so far exactly how Lachlan goes about doing that, or how much success it'd be possible to have with such a goal, but one thing I'm sure of -- meddling with fate in such a way is almost certain to come with a body count.
