Malignatas: Chapter V
Consider this my corpse being driven across the finish line in a hearse. Obviously I can't be trusted with multi-chapter fics...
Let's just pretend I posted this a year ago, yeah?
Malignatas, a KihyunxReader mini-series
Chapter 5: The Storm
WC: 2.2k
Summary: You and Kihyun thought you knew what you were getting into when you decided to make your relationship public. Neither of you were prepared for a curse from a spiteful fan, cast to keep you apart forever.
[Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] [Chapter 4]
It’s a lot to take in, hearing it second hand.
It’s not the shock floors that you, leaves you stupefied. It’s that you didn’t see it coming. And somehow, it seems like you should have.
The recording continues, but you don’t hear anything else. Kihyun’s frozen face, a mirror to your own, looks like he still can’t believe what he’s telling you. It would be funny in a different lifetime. Today, it’s lost on you.
An avalanche of thought drowns out the silence, and you don’t notice the others coming back, voices talking amongst themselves.
Does the board know? It seems unlikely. They're usually more concerned about keeping the company profitable, and cutting into Kihyun’s practice time is unlikely to get them the results they desire. Which means it's personal?
But why? And why Kihyun? He can’t have been the first idol to date someone; in fact, you know for fact that he’s not the first to have a relationship, let alone a longer one.
Were you the target? Did you do something to offend someone, other than dating an idol? Hard to see how, when you were no one of any import.
Should you even stay? Is it worth pushing back against Starship of all people, when Kihyun is still under contract; when the others are still under contract? Will fighting back now just bring everyone else down with you?
It’s a torrent of agony; yes, I want this over with and but what about everyone else, pitting you against your compassion, your friends. What if confronting them isn’t enough? How can you possibly stop someone at that level, prevent them from lashing out again later?
It takes more than one knock at the door to startle you out of your reverie. Changkyun eventually has to stick his head in, carefully looking anywhere but at you, and it’s his voice that grounds you.
“Noona? Are you…okay?” He bites his lip, and you choke down your panic. The answer is “obviously not”, but it’s hard to know what else to say besides "yes".
You can’t blame him. “We brought you fried chicken. You can’t eat in here, though.” He doesn’t say alone, but you hear it anyway.
You fake optimism until your cheeks hurt and you’re sure the mask is fading, impatience crinkling in your eyes. They do their best to distract you, to fill you in on the details of their plan – none of them seem to share your concerns, not thinking past having an end in sight. You wish it could be that easy for you, and you know you’re being ungrateful because they’ve had a long night, and they’ve clearly been thinking things through – Jooheon and Minhyuk fall asleep against each other on the couch before you’re free to sneak away, when Hyungwon and Changkyun, too calm to drown out your thoughts, can’t keep the anxiety at bay any longer.
It calls for another round of poorly scrawled messages for Kihyun, a personal diary cum deeply emotional penpal letter. You outline drawbacks, potential solutions, things he maybe hadn't quite thought of, yet.
It’s not that the plan is lacking; between what you gathered earlier and replaying the end of Kihyun’s video message, the whole thing is rather sound. It has padding built-in, enough to support the most pressing outstanding question – how much time does you have during the eclipse?
Packing the go-bag is harder than it looks, but it makes for a nice distraction. The outfit you feel strongest in, the most put-together – no reason to show up slovenly; you don’t want to give Kim Ha Jun the satisfaction of even a minute victory.
***
When the day finally comes, they leave Kihyun to fend for himself. The backpack goes with Minhyuk to one of the nearer practice rooms, close enough to barrel down the hall if needed; secure enough to wait a few hours if she changes at the beginning of the eclipse.
Kihyun eyes the door before him, the gold lettering glinting at him like a challenge, and grits his teeth. He would be CEO one day. He would make Starship a better place for all idols, for anyone in the entertainment industry. A refuge. At the helm of Starship, he’d take the K-pop industry to a future they’d hardly dared to believe in.
Eventually.
But first things first. A calming breath, straighten the sweater – a knock at the door.
The appointment was scheduled; he’d been expected. But Kim Ha Jun feigned surprise at his presence, anyway. A joyous, imagine-seeing-you-here response to his knock, gesturing him in like they hadn’t seen each other in years, offering refreshments.
Kihyun perches uncomfortably on the edge of the leather sofa and tries to ignore it, just like he’d always politely ignored the man’s terrible taste in cologne, secure in the knowledge that he’d always have warning before Kim Ha Jun showed up.
“Kihyun!” The man bellows. “Have you seen your charts for this month? Streaming is still high – better than we expected, don’t you think?” The man who was CEO of Starship wasn’t endowed with a fatherly aura, but it didn’t stop him from trying. The result was a discomfiting dissonance of corporate interest and the misplaced boundaries of an overly-friendly uncle. “You have great things ahead of you, my boy, great things!”
Kihyun suppresses a shudder and smiles instead. “Only with your vision and guidance, sir. None of us would be here without you.” Ha Jun smiles, pleased with the compliment, and Kihyun glances surreptitiously at his watch. He’d prepared conversational topics – questions, ideas – in the event that he has to stall for up to an hour.
Except right now, he can’t remember any of them, and it’s been less than ten minutes.
He falls back on the safest, most surefire way to keep oneself out of a conversation with a narcissist:
He asks for Kim Ha Jun’s opinion.
---
When you walk through the door nineteen minutes and thirty-six seconds later, Kihyun could nearly melt with relief, and not just because he’s seeing you in person for the first time in over a year. That part feels too surreal to even put a thought to, like an apparition he’d caught out of the corner of his eye, except it was standing in front of him.
You were standing in front of him. In front of both of them.
Kim Ha Jun, though, looks more surprised than anything. Eyebrows raised to the sky, he frowns. “You’re still around?”
The way he says it scares you, a free admission of guilt. Confronted with a problem he thought resolved ages ago. As if you were meant to have vanished entirely, a speck of lint flicked carelessly off his lapel.
A lapel you only barely restrain yourself from grabbing, from shaking until the last oily strands of hair fell from his head.
“I don’t believe we’ve met in person.” You say, rigid with anger at his dismissal. Kihyun moves to your side, lends you the protection of his presence. “But yes, I am still here. I’m here and I’m pissed off, in case you were wondering. You took away six months out of my life, out of Kihyun’s career, which for all intents and purposes should be a major detriment to the company and for what? Because you didn’t like me? Because I wasn’t good enough for your idol?” With no attempt at moderation, your tone rises, and you find yourself trying not to lose your breath by the end.
Kim Ha Jun still looks unaffected. He doesn’t disrespect you further by refilling his glass, but he inspects it as if it were tempting.
“It wasn’t meant to last. You were a distraction. You would become more of a distraction. Kihyun is in the prime of his career. I can’t afford to have him moping about over a heartbreak – let the other companies lose their fortunes over women and relationships.”
“How was this not a distraction?!” Kihyun bursts. “Do you know what we’ve been through? How agonizing it has been? I wouldn’t have thrown away my career over a break-up – I’d have been sad and gotten over it, like anyone else. That’s normal. That’s life.”
The glass slams onto the table, and you both startle. Ha Jun braces himself on the desk. “It wasn’t meant to be a continued distraction.” He says, eyes flashing. “I was…expediting the matter. Once she was over you, once she decided that ‘idols were too much effort’ – “ he says it mockingly, and suddenly it’s very, very clear that this is about more than you and Kihyun – “then *poof*. You’d be all back to normal Kihyun, and she’d be out of your life for good; all problems solved.”
“And what about her? What would have happened? You think we just…wouldn’t see each other again, that I wouldn’t wonder what had happened to her?” Kihyun is bristling, his face bright red.
Ha Jun smiles a slow, nasty smile. “You’d have a new, one of kind watch, my young flexer.”
The enormity of his implication makes the silence stretch around it. Diabolical enough to forcibly separate you, but setting it up to make you disappear, to punish you for choosing yourself over the farce your life had become? Rather than murdering you outright?
A cold shiver runs down your spine, and your hairs stand on end. In a different world, you might wonder who hurt you? Instead, you fight the gaping maw of terror that's opening, the rapid realization of how horrible a person you face.
"That was not your decision to make!” Kihyun is angry; you both are. But he's also scared, and you can feel his body quivering where it brushes yours. "She had every right to leave me. She had more right to leave me because of you. And she didn't, and I'm grateful. But I never would have blamed her. I would have wanted her to be happy, just like she would have wanted for me." His hand slips into yours, maybe for show, maybe for solidarity. Maybe just for strength.
Neither of you has to do it alone.
"Do you know what that's like? To want someone else to be happy? Whoever she was, she didn't belong to you, Kim Ha Jun." Quieter this time, you're not asking so much as wondering aloud. "She deserved every chance to make her life better, and if being with you didn't improve her life, she had every right to leave."
"She chose me; it's true." Kihyun says, and it's hard to tell who is gripping who harder; both of your knuckles are white, like a storm may come and blow one of you away. "But I also chose her." He glances at you, and you see sorrow in his eyes. "I wish I could have chosen her more often."
It's a confession, but not one you weren't aware of. He'd always worried more about you than himself, would have had you spend your time working your career, your passion, rather than chasing traces of myths and magic.
When you respond, it's to him, and not to Ha Jun. "I love you."
Not "I would do it again"- you'd really, truly rather not. And not "you're worth it", either, because no one could be worth that total loss of self agency. But knowing you could be better? Working together towards that improvement?
That's the partner you want.
Who knows how it may have turned out, without the misdirected vengeance of Kim Ha Jun? Would you be the same people? Would you have become the same strong couple?
In the end, there is no storm. There's no whipping winds or flashes of lightning; just light. Painfully, impossibly bright, it floods the room, blinds you until the only tangible sense you have left is the deathgrip that connects you to Kihyun.
When it fades, Kim Ha Jun is gone.
Standing in the middle of the room, finally free, you find yourself alone with Kihyun at last, both of you human and heaving, emotions still running high. A blanket of silence hovers between you as you lock eyes, and it might have lasted an eternity if not for the alarm on Kihyun’s phone marking the end of the eclipse.
All it takes is one ragged crook of the lips – it’s from one of your playlists, nothing he’d have ever picked for himself – and then you’re flinging yourself into his arms. You’re not sure who’s holding who, laughing and crying at once as you sink to the floor in a trembling heap.
Surely only a matter of minutes, it still feels like hours could have passed before the rest of the group bursts in, expecting the worst.
The ensuing chaos is a good excuse, but the reality is that neither of you was in any state to notice. It's not until Minhyuk starts to usher everyone back to the dorms for a proper celebration and privacy that someone finds Ha Jun's empty glass lying on the floor in front of the desk.
Next to it is a little analog clock, its little analog brain tick-ticking quietly away. It looks cheap for the room, black plastic and an acrylic cover, more at home in a garage sale from the 90's than in a CEO's office.
You're not sure what will become of it when the board appoints its new CEO, but you don't find it in yourself to care much, either. The door closes soundly behind you, and you don't spare it another thought.
You have the future to consider.

The airport was bustling with people from all over the world. People with hoods up, a neck pillows around their neck, sweatshirts on and power banks at hand. Your arms wrap around you, tightening around you as you walk alongside Changkyun and Kihyun. Changkyun rolls his suitcases along side him, his hood looming over his head and his airpods in his ears ready for his departure. The atmosphere was tense but you knew what you heart was feeling. Kihyun tried to initiate conversation and Changkyun tried to keep his composure too since his mind was hectic enough after what happened a month or so ago. He stood still and turned around ready to say goodbye to his two best friends. You coudnt be mad at him, he was following his dream, something you encouraged so you took a deep breath and gave him once last hug. Who knew when he’d come back, today was the last day. “Hey, I’ll message you and talk to you and we can still play you know?” his hand rests at the back of your head and you felt serenity when he did so. You nod your head, feeling your eyes pool with tears already; “I value our friendship and trust me, it will never change!” he forces a smile knowing how much it pained him to formulate what came out of his mouth. Kihyun gently patted your back as you stepped away from Changkyun, your cheeks wet from your tears. “Your hoodies wet, sorry.” You sniffle as Changkyun just smiles at you reassuringly. “It’s okay, don’t worry about it.” He looks down in despair. Changkyun hugs Kihyun however this time it felt apologetic and empathetic; “I’m sorry if I caused you any pain Kihyun, take care of her well, I’ll see you again sometime soon,” His lips stretch into a smile before he grabs his suitcase to make his journey to the States. Who knew when the trio would meet again.
“Hey, are you okay?” Kihyun asks you. He could tell from the empty stare that you were hurt but you turn to him smiling as you’d always do, “yeah, I’m okay just… wouldn’t have expected him to leave you know?” you shrug before linking your arm with Kihyun’s. Changkyun pondered in the aircraft, his head leaning against the interior of the plane, staring to the nothingness outside. He was off to the states with his parents to start a new life, to experience new things. You and Kihyun took the bus home but instead Kihyun stopped off at the mall. “why did you stop here?” you ask looking at yourself in your compact mirror. “Maybe get you something to eat since you didn’t eat anything?” He grabs your hand and looks back up at your again and stops for a moment. Maybe that wasn’t a good idea? He gently takes his hand away from yours and waits for you to get off before he followed. Kihyun tried his best on this occasion to make you happy, paying for food and also buying some ice cream. The sky was progressively getting darker as you both walked home together the sweetness of the ice cream setting on your tastebuds. “are you feeling slightly better now?” he asks you as he holds the empty ice cream cup in his left hand leaving his right hand unoccupied. “a little bit, I guess I just have to accept it right?” you smile at him, “besides I’m moving onto campus in a couple days so it’s just the matter of getting on with it.” You clear you throat before a downpour spewed from the darkened sky. Instinctively, you latch onto Kihyun’s arm but that was when he’d have an umbrella on him. “it didn’t say it’d rain today?” Kihyun looks over at you shivering from the rain. He takes his long bomber jacket off from his body and drapes it over your shoulders to keep you as warm as possible. “What are you doing Kihyun?” the exclamation in your voice startling him. “You’re cold and I gave you my jacket,” Kihyun’s head tilts, stating what he was doing. “I mean, thank you I do appreciate it,” you smile, “if you had other ideas in your head, don’t..” Kihyun panicked. You smiled at his light-hearted teasing but Kihyun looked ahead whilst walking. You approached your house first and gave Kihyun a hug; “thank you for walking me home and comforting me this evening,” You say as your head was leaning into his shoulder, his arms were around your waist respectively. “I’ll be here for you and Changkyun will be there for you to regardless of time zones,” he speaks softly as you part from the embrace, “I know, I hope we can still keep in touch when we move to university.” You say as you make eye contact with Kihyun’s . You remove the jacket from the shoulders and hand it to Kihyun; “please get home safely, message me when you’re home,” You smile at Kihyun. It was like old times, where you used to prove you cared for me…“I will, I promise,” Kihyun puts his hand on your shoulder before he turns around and leaves through the gates and disappears around the corner. My heart never skipped beats like this before, get a hold of yourself. He puts his jacket back on and makes the rest of the journey home with the bus.
“Are you home yet?” you type in then delete the message. Your phone rests in your hand and you think what to write. You didn’t want to sound obsessive or too protective but you wanted to sound protective enough. “hey, are you home safe and sound?”
Kihyun looks down at his phone, taking it out of his pocket as he takes his shoes off and hangs his wet jacket to dry. “Yeah, just walked in,” Kihyun types, it felt weird how you’d message him only when you didn’t have Changkyun’s attention but he shook his head to forget the absurd thoughts since his mind was making things up to mess with him. “you okay?” he messages back.
“Yeah especially after this evening, thank you so much Kihyun,” you reply to him as you sit at your dining table with your family for dinner; “do you wanna maybe help out with me moving out?” you type then delete it again because he must be doing the same. “when will you be moving to your uni campus?” You ask him since you didn’t know where he was going but assumed it wasn’t to yours. “I’m packing on Thursday for Saturday.” Kihyun replies,
The blinking line in the text box blinks to the rhythm of your heart. You felt stupid for asking but you were curious. Your evening was spent with your family, enjoying and celebrating your acceptance to Seoul University; you wondered how these wondrous dorms looked like and if you were going to have a room mate, you thought about making new friends and going to university events and having unlimited access to the library that was radiating knowledge. It was all so new and it was exciting to you. You messaged Changkyun just so he knew you were thinking about him and you waited for his response although you knew he wouldn’t reply until tomorrow. You had to begin packing so you went to scavenge for some boxes which were in the attic. Your father helped bring the ladder down and you both went up to grab some boxes and to your surprise you found a few things that your forgot about. There were some photo albums and multiple boxes of trinkets and items which you went through. They were photos of you and Kihyun from your preschool days, some toys and presents that were made by Kihyun and a his glove that he left at your house when he was 6 years old. It brought a smile to you face. “hey, are these all you need?” your father asks holding up some flat boxes; “huh? Oh, yeah those are it!” you leave the stuff in the box and put it back into its place and going back down to pack your items. During the process, it felt nauseating to leave your family and voyage on this journey alone. How would you cope without your mother and father there to help you when you needed them, your mothers cooking, your puppy? It should be fine right? Your desk was almost all cleared away and you grabbed the final two things; the photo of you Changkyun and Kihyun and the stuffed bunny. You couldn’t leave them behind you had to take them with you.
Moving out day arrived shortly and you sat in the car with your father going to your campus to move in. “did you check your accommodation?” your father asks. “I did and it looked good!” you smile confidently. Little did you know photos and real life are two different things. You arrived to your accommodation; it was a tall building looming over on the street that had other accommodation complexes; the prices were astronomical and almost unaffordable so you stayed safe with the cheaper option. You fiddle with the keycard between your sweaty palms, why were you so nervous? You got to your dorm and you swiped the card to let you in although, despite the technology, the interior was cold and almost damp. “oh god, why is it like this in here?” your father asks as he takes a look around. The gas pipes trailed along the skirting of the walls, the paint was chipped and had minor stains on them which you didn’t want to question, not to mention the tattered curtains and dark carpets. “these carpets were supposed to be a light brown,” your father gulped “I have a carpet cleaner at home, we can clean this place up a bit before you settle?” he suggests and you just nod to him, not feeling very satisfied with what you have witnessed. You check the bathroom; the tiles were a rusty brown and there was limescale covering the shower head, taps and sink. God… you thought to yourself, you had a lot of cleaning to do. You didn’t have a private kitchen so the communal kitchen was something you had to get used to as well as sharing a fridge and cupboards. From this day on, you began to get your dorm into shape, cleaning and restoring the dorm as much as you could and investing in some slippers just to be extra clean! You set up your computer at your desk and brought in your items to move in peacefully. The windows were large and opened wide enough to let out the aroma of bleach and chemicals waft out as you spray some air freshener so you could respirate in your own living space. After your father left, you tried to get used to your dorm before there was a knock just as you sat down. You didn’t know if you should open the door so you just yelled: “ I didn’t order anything, I just moved in!”
“We’re not here for delivery!” one of the voices called out. It was a cheerful, higher pitched voice. She sounded cute and friendly so you stood up and took the risk to open the door. The girl had a blue hair that was looking seafoam green in the hallway lighting. He eyes were rounder and her dark almost like a puppy. “Hello floor mate, I’m Gowon!” she is the most beautiful person I have ever seen in my life – you thought to yourself. “ I moved in a couple weeks ago and I thought we could get to know each other!” She smiles, her pink tinted lips turn into a wholesome smile. You nervously chuckle, “ahah yeah! That’d be nice. I’m trying to get used to me dorm right now,” your hand rests on the back of your neck. “ you’ll get used to it in no time!” she smiles at you, “what are you going to major in?” she asks. God, I’m a Business and Management major, does that make me boring? “Business and Management..” your tone lowers, embarrassed at what you were saying. “Oh my god really! My friend does that, I’m super interested in fashion so fashion designing was quite interesting!” who was her friend? “do you have anyone from your school here?” Gowon asks and you shake your head. “what can you do,” you let your lips curl into a smile, “ one of my friends moved to the states because he wanted to go to university there and my other friend is staying here but I don’t know where he’s going, he hasn’t told me and I don’t wanna ask him because what if he did tell me and I wasn’t listening, I’d feel bad.” Your thoughts where going hectic. Gowon puts her hand on your shoulder, “hey! It’s okay if you keep in contact that’s all that matters and besides you can meet new people here!”
Gowon was so sweet and you could see yourself become really close friends with her. You text Kihyun; “hey! I moved in.” you type and add a smile emoticon to make it seem less dry than looked. You notice the bubble with the three dots appear – he was typing- and you sat on your bed waiting for his reply. “that’s cool! How is it?” he replied. He wanted to know what conditions you were living in hoping it was too bad. “it’s okay, there were a few problems but it’s okay, it’s all sorted out… kinda.”
You spoke to Kihyun for a few minutes before he had to go offline since he was busy. You first university day starts in a couple weeks so you had time to get used to your environment and make some friends while you were at it but it wasn’t easy since everyone was in their rooms most the time. Only Gowon was out on walks or getting some coffee or going for a small food shop. You thought it’d be a good opportunity to hang out with her for a while to get comfortable and become closer friends.
[a couple weeks later]
Your alarm buzzed at 6am. You haven’t heard that for a while and it was infuriating to hear the annoying sound at your ears when it was still dark outside. You grab your phone and sit up in your bed, tossing aside your phone which decided it would like it better on the floor. You groaned tiredly and slip on you slippers and grab a hoodie to make your way to the bathroom to freshen up. You look around for the toothbrush and toothpaste wondering where they were. Of course, you didn’t turn the light on, so your pushed the light switch to find them on your sink. Your tiredness was getting the best of you. You got dressed and decided today wasn’t the day for breakfast, grabbed your bad, phone, purse and key card to make your way to campus. It was cold but it was refreshing to walk in. Usually you’d walk with Kihyun but of course, he wasn’t here to walk with you every morning.
Gowon runs up behind you; “bOO!” she yells which startles you. “oh my-” you raise your voice only to realise it was Gowon. “did I scare you?” he nudged. Your connection to her felt familiar, like you knew her for a long time and it was comforting. You see behind her there was another person; His hair was blond and wavey, stopping just under is brows, lips tinted a light pink and his smooth, glass like skin illuminated by the winter sun. “This is Minhyuk, he helped me out when we both moved on the same day!” Gowon introduces and Minhyuk waves at you, smiling at you charmingly. You raise your hand and introduce yourself before you all go to campus. Who knew how easy it was to make new friends? Two already?
You think how Kihyun was doing but to your little knowledge, he was already in his first class getting to know everyone. He looked at his phone, swiping up to unlock it then pressing the green speech bubble to message you. “Hey, you in uni yet?” he asks you. “hey Kihyun, I am. Why are you messaging me?” you sounded a little passive aggressive you you send the ‘x’ kiss. “you do know I got to the same university as you but someonewas too excited to even ask me :/” you gasped and held the screen closer to your face. “have you seen a ghost?” Gowon asks “or did someone send you an early morning naughty photo” Minhyuk snickers behind her looking over her should just to see a series of texts. “boyfriend?” he asks. You shake your head; “no no, it’s just my best friend apparently he goes here too but-” you were interrupted by Gowon’s gas, “you didn’t ask him! Girl, were you dating someone and forgot about him?” you stood there silently biting your lip. “I take that as a yes, tell us about him, what does he do, where does he go, introduce us to him plea-” Gowon paused after seeing how dismal it made you feel talking about him. “he left to the states and I guess I have to move on,” you force a smile, “lets go shall we?”
Why did Kihyun make it hard for you. Now they think you’re in a love triangle, you hope they didn’t at least. Your introductory day went well and you met a lot of people who are doing the same degree as you. “Hey,” Kihyun waves with a smile whislt walking over to you. “Wow how have you not fallen for him?” Gowon asks you and you don’t respond. “what’s up man, your bestie here has said a lot about you!” Lies. Absolute lies. I don’t hate him but you don’t want people to get the wrong idea. “oh really? I must be the centre of your conversations then.” He looks down at you and ruffles your hair and you smile back. “well me and Kihyun have know each other since we were born pretty much,” you giggle before someone interrupted yet again, “hey, you four coming to the freshers party?” he asks. You all look at each other. “oh um, sure why not!” Minhyuk smiles from ear to ear. Freshers parties are for the new students to interact and get to know each other often organised by the senior students. “when is it?” Kihyun and Gowon ask simultaneously. “it’s actually going to be next month since the uni team are free then, it’ll be at a share house just a few minutes away from the campus, but I hope you guys can come!” the guy smiles and waves. “OI wait, what time?” Minhyuk hollers. “Probably 7pm and you can leave by the early hours of the morning, see ya!”
“damn so much freedom and responsibility, how does it feel to be so free?” Gowon asks. “My parents allowed me to do things reasonably, but this is a lot of responsibility,” you twiddled your thumbs, “she never got drunk, a good little bunny she is.” Kihyun smiles and chuckles teasing you. “you guys seem like a couple” Gowon giggles, “what a shame girly, I quite liked the look of your best friend Kihyun.” Gowon pouted. You felt a bit sick; “ew, this guy? Did you know he-” Kihyun’s hand covers your mouth, “now now, I am a man of many mysteries,” he raises a brow. You scoff.
Later that evening you hung out with the three friends you have, and you were invited to Minhyuk’s dorm. “Damn you have everything sorted here, your lights are cool!” Kihyun points out, “and a games console, alright turn it on let’s play!”
You and Gowon sit on Minhyuk’s bed and talk to each other. You glance at the boys and your heart does flips. No stop it don’t do that. You tell yourself, Gowon’s voice muffling until you were shaken out of it – quite literally. You try to divert the attention and soon after you decide to go back to your dorm. The trio seemed disheartened that you had to leave first but you just had to go.
You lay in your bed staring at the leak stain on your ceiling before turning away to the side, watching the screen of your phone glow blue. You gasped; “Hey, how are you?” it was Changkyun and he finally messaged you since he left. “I’m okay-” you think to type ‘I miss you’ but you didn’t want to sound .. well you know. “I’m okay, I made a couple friends!”
You and Changkyun spoke for a little bit until he stopped replying. It seems like he fell asleep; you knew he was enjoying his time there, Changkyun never turns down a party. You sigh loudly in your room before the heating stops and your room temperature drops rapidly. “no no no-“ you go to your heating dial trying to fix it. There was no hope; why is it your dorm room with all these problems? You let it be and tried to go to sleep with layers of blankets to keep you warm.

“Hey, are you excited for the party?” Gowon asks. “so excited,” you smile and look at Minhyuk and Kihyun talking about something, “how about you guys?” You ask. “awh yeah, I think it’d be so cool!” Minhyuk smiled; his soft puppy like features not matching up with his ‘rebellious bad boy’ vibes was something that entranced you, just how? “Yeah, It’s a new experience so that’s cool,” Kihyun added.
Throughout the day you and Gowon and Minhyuk became closer as did Kihyun. “yo, so where does your girlfriend go?” Minhyuk asks assuming Kihyun had one. Kihyub smiles and sighs, “I never dated anyone..” Gowon gasped at his remark. “I mean I tried to set him up with my friend Irene but he just refused,” you shrug “what a shame, she was a nice girl.” You say as you stand beside him. “she actually refused me, did she tell you otherwise?” he asks you, his voice low. What’s gotten in to him? “I mean, no I just assumed that-“ you were interrupted by him, “heres a life lesson, assuming things isn’t very safe it can lead to many problems,” He patted your head and smiled “she refused me politely so now you know.”
Gowon stared at him in disbelief. “have you ever had feeling for anyone?” she was interested to know. He shook his head; it was a blatant lie. “Woow…” she looked away in disbelief. Kihyun laughed already predicting their reactions but he brushed it off it was no big deal, sometimes it was best to move on, right? [later that evening] The room was cramped with students new and old dancing and drinking with their friends in the kitchen, standing in the hallways and sitting on stairs. The music was blaring out so loud that you could barely even hear your thoughts which was a good thing. You approached a small group of people who seemed to be a year older; “hey! You’re a new student here right, first year?” one of the guys spoke out to you from the other end of the room and he seemed to be approaching you at a quick pace with a drink in his hand. “want some help getting to know some people?” he seemed super friendly and draped an arm around you and escorted you around the place. You already lost the others, usually Kihyun would be beside you regardless but he left with Minhyuk somewhere. You took a sip of the liquid which gave your tongue a burning sensation; “new to drinking I see, you’ll get used to it,” he smiles at you his arm tightening around your shoulder. “so out here are all the kids who were a part of some drama and they’re quite daring too, I must say I am a part of that group,” he chuckles “no worries though because in the kitchen are the 2nd year business and management lot.. they’re a bit boring but there’s that,” he tuts and passes them as your heart sank since you saw Minhyuk and Kihyun together with Gowon and someone else they befriended whilst you were being taken around by some random student. You felt a little dizzy as he was showing you around until you asked to sit down to which you were sat down on a couch with that guy. Voices began to muffle slowly, your world a haze; what was that drink? Or what was IN that drink?
You open your eyes, gasping for air finding yourself still on the couch although your head was in someone’s lap. You look up to see it was Kihyun and you gulped, nervous to even ask what happened. He looked rather angry and out of character, Minhyuk sitting with his hands in his hands and Gowon sitting on the arm of the seat. “she’s up guys there really was no reason to act up like that was it?” She looked at the boys. What even happened?
– Minhyuk and Kihyun both saw you passed out on the couch with the older boys surrounding you with cameras out facing the ‘nice guy’ trying to do something that wasn’t right. They were both furious but they were confused as to why each other reacted the way they did. Charging in absolute anger, Minhyuk threw the guy off you and Kihyun lifted your head up to check up on you. “Leave her alone!” Minhyuk grunted as the guy held him by the collar throwing a punch and leaving him on the floor. Kihyun checked if you were hurt and luckily you weren’t but he thought why Minhyuk go so angry so quick. It reminded him of how protective Changkyun was of you and it made his stomach churn. –
“let’s take you home..” Kihyun sighs “ I don’t think right now is the best time to come to parties..” he knew something would happen if he left you alone. “taking advantage of people is so shit,” Minhyuk scoffs as Gowon pats his back. “Let’s all just go and make sure she’s okay,” Gowon picks up your stuff. Only 3 hours in and this is what happens, what a vibe killer.
Your dorm has a leaking ceiling so when you opened your door your bed was wet. “you must be joking..” you whisper. “are you okay?” Kihyun asks. “yeah I’m fine thanks, you can go now, sorry for the trouble,” you look down in disappointment. “no problem, I’m here for you whenever you need me okay, my apartment is a few minutes away from your dorm,” he writes down his address on a text message and sends it to you. You nod and thank him before shutting the door and looking at the leak and open your door heading out again. “oh hey, you alright?” Minhyuk comes back with a plastic bag of things he bought from the convenience store; “why are you outside?” he asks “leak in my ceiling again…” you respond. “ahh, wanna hang at mine before you decide what to do?” you think for a moment. Maybe going to Kihyun’s was a good idea. “I think I might visit Kihyun now,” you nod.
You felt awful. You created such a scene yet Kihyun was still there for you. You get to his apartment and knock at the door and he opens knowing it was you. “welcome, good thing I’m making food” he smiles grabbing your hand to pull your inside “come here it’s cold out there”
“I’m sorry for what I did today,” you gulp and avoid eye contact. “sorry for what? Being an idiot and taking a drink from someone else? Yeah don’t worry you didn’t know but next time don’t get lost you have a phone for a reason,” he says laying a bowl of ramen in front of you, “anyway eat up,” he says going for it as soon as he sat down. “why are you here?” he asks. You stare at him, there was genuine concern in his eyes. “I have a leak in my dorm and my bed is wet,” Kihyun laughs, “what a lame excuse to hang out with me AND stay with me,” he jokes “I’m joking of course.” He hands you one of his hoodies since you seemed cold. “well you can stay here until someone fixes that leak in your dorm,” he smiles softly. I want to tell her right here right now… he opens his mouth then stops. “what were you going to say?”
“it doesn’t matter don’t worry…” he held back, no matter how hard it was. He tucked a bit of hair that dangled down the side of your face back. “don’t eat your hair too?” he jokes and laughs. “since when were you so cocky Kihyun?” you asked him since you noticed a shift in behaviour. I have no competition… “Oh I guess new school new me?” he shrugs. “right,” you nod.
You and Kihyun sit on his bed watching something on youtube, laughing at a show you both like until he drifted off leaning back on his headboard. You thought it was an uncomfortable position, so you moved his head to your shoulder and threw a blanket over him. This felt like the good old days. Your eyes also began to get heavy, so you thought to close your eyes for only a few seconds. Although, seconds turned to minutes and minutes to hours, by the time you knew it you were both asleep. Fast asleep.

Not Friends Anymore
Part 3
Pairing: KihyunXReader
Sunrays hitting your face made you jolt up from your bed. You wondered how come you ended up there though. As you were getting to leave your bed sudden pain striked your head, HANGOVER! You sat back holding your head in your hands "You shouldnt do that again you know you cant handle it" a familiar voice echoed in your room. You looked up as your heart raced and there he was standing in your bedroom's doorway arms crossed on his chest and a serious expression on his face still looking ethereal. "what are you doing here Kihyun? and where is Naeyon?" you asked glaing at him. "She said she has some work to do she'll be back in the evening, now freshen up your breakfast is ready" he turned around in order to leave your room. "wait, why are you here? why are you being nice? why are you acting as if nothing happened?" you looked at him with confusion to which he just smiled and said "can we talk about it later? please get up now" he pleaded. You listened to him and when you were done you went back to the kitchen to meet him. "here! sit down" he passed you your favourite waffles with maple syrup on it. "I bet you are very hungry just finish it up and then we'll talk" he said. you finished eating hurriedly just to talk with him. he watched you carefully while eating and was constantly smiling at you. "Now" you said "care to explain?" Kihyun blinked his eyes several times "Listen Y/N, I know that I've been avoiding you for few days" he said hesitantly "few days?" you back fired "its been months you arent talking with me properly you suddenly stopped meeting me and yesterday I saw you in the club-" you were holding back your tears "I know Y/N. I.. I am sorry. I shouldnt have treated you like that and about yesterday it was all a misunderstanding" "A misunderstanding?" "yeah. well the girl you saw with me was my distant cousin, you dont know her. she's here for her vacations and wanted to visit places, I wasnt even interested but she insisted. I had to listen to her" he sighed "well though I should have rejected it" "cousin? she was your cousin? but that doesnt explain why you were avoiding me before?" you asked "yeah about that it was a... I mean... How should I put it?" Kihyun said, fiddling with the hem of his shirt, obvious nervousness on his face. "What is it Ki?" you touched his hand reassuring him to say whatever was in his mind. Listening to his pet name from you reassured him "I know what I'm going to say is stupid but, I was afraid-"
"afraid of what?" you asked
"afraid of loosing you. Well I heard you talking with him and I thought you liked him and he liked you and I thought maybe it wouldnt be a good idea to stay, be friends with you-" "Kihyun what are you talking about?" you asked him with confusion
Flashback
It was your movie night ritual with your best buddies. As Naeyon was on her night shift she just cancelled the plan so it was just you and Kihyun today. "can we just watch beauty and the beast?" you pouted "But we've already watched it for like thousandth times?" he said mockingly "I hate horror movies" you muttered under your breathe "I can hear you" he laughed "you are a dumbass" you teased him "yah! how can you?" Your phone started ringing suddenly "Ki can you pass me my phone?" "yeah sure" he glanced at your mobile's screen it was Jaehyun's call. "I'll be back in a minute." you excused yourself and went inside your bedroom.
Kihyun's POV
'Why is she taking so much time? Should I check? no no that's not a good idea' he fighted with his own thoughts. After waiting for several minutes he decided to look for you. He headed towards your bedroom, was about to knock on your door when "Oppa~ you are asking me out for a date?" stopping in his tracks he listened to your voice confessing to Jaehyun "ofcourse I'd love too" you said. He felt wrong for eavesdropping but couldnt help he wanted to know what you were talking. Kihyun could imagine your smiling face while talking to Jaehyun, your voice said it all "yaa yaa I love you too baby~" the words which he didnt ever expected from you for someone else stabbed his heart like a knife and tears started welling up in his eyes "see you on our date night then" you hanged up the call, thats when Kihyun ran back to the living room and sat on the sofa as if nothing happened though all he wanted to do was cry out loud. The mere thought of the girl he loved, had a crush on for all these years has fallen for someone else broken him into pieces.

“If what you just said is true”
Hello lovely! Thank for your request and feel free to ask again! English is not my first language, I’m still learning and this helps a lot. Sorry for any mistakes! Love. ♥
Pairing: KihyunxReader Genre: Fluff Requested: By anon
Waiting hours to receive an answer from your best friend was normal, being an idol had its perks but also negative sides that those who didn't live in that world could scarcely understand.
Yet you had hoped that at least that day he would remember to be more present, but once again you couldn't expect the moon.
"He's surely busy" you hummed, the phone near to you on the desk without a sign of life, "we'll celebrate my birthday another day."
"How can you celebrate a birthday a different day? Besides, you, the most amazing person in the world, deserves to be celebrated. "
His voice was unmistakable and turning, being careful not to fall from the chair, you found him on the threshold of your room, perfect as always and with a paper hat well fixed on the head.
A huge smile stretched out on your lips, screaming happily you jumped down from the chair and in less than a few seconds, you already had your arms and legs tied around his body. His scent, a mixture of soap and deodorant, stroked your nostrils while his arms clasped gently around your waist.
"Aw, you're so cute," he whispered in your ear, obviously referring to your reaction and maybe to the fact that you were wearing Sailor moon's pajamas. What could you do if you were no longer a child but still loved cartoons?
"Don't Tease Me, dwarf."
"Because you're taller, aren't you?"
Grinning you sticked your tongue out and gently loosened the grip of your arms, though it didn't seem he was inclined to let you go. "I'm heavy, put me down."
The "Tzc" arrived shortly after, hiked between his teeth and stained by a nuisance that now you knew how to grasp immediately, while his gaze became more serious than ever. " You're not heavy and if I want to keep you in my arms, I'll keep you in my arms, okay? "
"I thought you were busy," you said changing the topic while with a few steps he sat on the bed, always keeping you firmly against his body. "I should understand it, do you know it?"
"You shouldn't always understand, Y/N. Bear so much and..." His voice faded and in his eyes, to you always so transparent and easy to read, there was an emotion unknown to you. "I am tired of you enduring my absences and never being able to be here with and for you"
"You are an Idol Kiki, you know I understand it and you're still doing your best," raising your hand you stroked his cheek, outlining the marked traits of the jaw and the cheekbone, "to me it's not a prob-"
"It is.. for me it's a big problem." He interrupted you and turning his face he grazed with his plumpy lips, your fingertips, provoking a shocking thrill all along your back. "You make me so happy and I know I'm not able to do the same. Perhaps because I would like to make you happy in a different way from that of a simple best friend."
His words brought down the total silence between the walls of your room and your breath stuck in your throat, your eyes widened and you knew that silence would allow him to feel the accelerated heartbeat of your heart. Never in six years "together" and two of hidden feelings - because it was impossible not to fall for him - you never would have thought that that moment would come.
Instead, it seemed to be there, in front of you and just waiting for you to grab it with both hands.
"Who says you can't do the same?" You whispered, tilting the face slowly towards his to the point that now the tips of your noses were barely touching.
Kihyun swallowed and a powerful shiver shook him from the inside, his head almost overloaded with too many thoughts, your breath to tickle his lips.
"Sensations."
"If what you just said is true, you just made me the happiest girl in the world, Kihyun."
"I'll correct you. If what you just said is true you mean you're my girlfriend and I'll make you the happiest in the world."

family | final
pairing: kihyunxreader length: 856 words genre: fluff summary: family
other parts
My tired eyes widened hearing the baby monitor go off for the sixth time tonight, shh, I thought… I just wanted to go back to sleep. Nothing mattered more than falling back to sleep at this moment. I moved my arm to rest it on the back of my forehead, I let out a loud sigh knowing the other one was going to wake up. As the wailing continued, I stretched my arm out across the empty bed. My hand caught on the loose bed sheet reminding me of the conversation we had a few days ago. I told him to go… I was the one to tell him I would be okay be myself with both kids. I still missed him... he would be back in 2 more days and those two days couldn't go any quicker. My mind was pulled back to him crying, I didn't want to get out of bed because I knew the heating in the apartment wouldn't be on for another half an hour but he was more important.
I was going to wait one more minute before getting up, I knew it was 5 AM without having to glimpse at the clock because I hadn’t managed to get back to sleep from the last disruption. I started to pull the covers off my body when I heard the muffled sounds on the baby monitor, I glanced to the side and reached out to pick it up. My arm being revealed to the cold, I instantly pulled it back in when I heard his voice. “Why are you crying? It is because you missed me?” Kihyun.
He was home…
A sleepy smile fell over my face after hearing his voice again, I had missed it. “Did you just want to be cuddled?” I wanted to hug him too… he had finally stopped crying as I knew Kihyun could be rocking him back to sleep it meant I could safely close my again and try to fall asleep before he came in. A few minutes maybe even hours must've gone by as when I next opened my eyes Kihyun was walking towards me.
“Why did you come back early? Did you miss us?” I whisper, Kihyun leaned over me to kiss me on the lips. I had missed this type of intimacy, I would have pulled him into bed with me then and there but I would have had to slide across to the cold side of the bed.
“Of course. The conference concluded earlier than planned but it meant I could catch an earlier flight home to you.” Kihyun smiles, I reached up to pull on his tie slightly pulling him in till our lips touched again. “I can see you missed me for other reasons.” Kihyun chuckles pulling away from me, he wasn’t lying by saying that but I generally missed him.
“I heard you on the baby monitor.”
“I missed him and Sumi but not as much as you.” I knew. Kihyun would always put me first, it didn’t matter if I didn’t like it or not because he was always going to be the one at the end of the day. He eventually made his way under the covers pulling me into his warm body, as we both leaned back against the pillows I could just rest my head against his chest. I felt his lips press against my head, it was finally peaceful… although the city itself was just starting to wake up, for me and Kihyun it was coming to a stop for maybe an hour, two if we were lucky. "How were they?"
"Sumi was her usual self as so was the baby, he was eating, sleeping and needing a diaper change all day. Hyungwon came over almost every night, it wasn't as bad as you're probably imagining it to be." I felt Kihyun chuckle as I smiled to myself, he was insistent on getting some help when we already had it with Hyungwon and Hoseok. We managed to prove him wrong, I thought to myself remembering Hyungwon washing the dishes while Hoseok played with Sumi and I dealt with a grumpy baby.
It was silent for a few more moments when Kihyun finally spoke again. “I have something I want to ask you.”
He had said those words so many times to me that I could freely let my mind wander and not pay too much attention to him knowing it would either be about work or the kids. I let out a small acknowledgement waiting for the question, “Shall we get married?” I smiled to myself as he had finally asked the question after I had been wondering when he would ask. I wondered what had suddenly made up his mind or whether it was just the right time.
“...It’s been a long time coming.” I mutter, Kihyun let out a chuckle as I moved my head up to kiss him before I fell back down onto his chest.
"Everything is finally right." Kihyun whispers. It was true, we were finally a complete family and I couldn't be happier in this moment.
A/N: You probably thought this should have been longer but to me, it felt right to end it like this. I will hopefully go ahead with the spin-off stories involving Minhyuk and Hoseok so you’ll see past/future Kihyun. I hope you can forgive me for how long it took to update each chapter but at the same time you enjoyed reading them when I did finally post. Life gets in the way as well as writer’s block and a little bit of procrastination but apart from everything else thank you so much for reading family and I will start working on those spin-offs.

i can’t imagine you with someone else
Yoo Kihyun (KihyunXReader) | FLUFF, a bit of swearing, he JELLY | because,,, of the song,, jealousy? (STREAM JEALOUSY!) | WC: 4.4k words
Summary: Kihyun absolutely hates the guy you were crushing on, because he thinks he has all the same things the other guy does, so why are you looking at someone else?
a/n: wanted to write a jealousy oneshot and since i’m writing fluff for all of the boys, i guess kihyun fit the image i had in my mind perfectly, so ENJOY! also, sorry i had to make wonho kinda weird in this BUT THIS IS ALL FICTION SO BYE
“Oh, come on now, Y/N, you can’t be fucking serious,” Kihyun bumps his shoulders with you at the counter of the bar, sighing audibly. He taps his fingers anxiously on the glass of his beer bottle.
You look at him, laughing, “I am serious!” You scan across the table, to a tall, dark and handsome figure talking casually to Minhyuk, “He’s hot, Kihyun!”
The boy next to you hung his head down, his own dark hair hanging over him. The guy you were ogling over was no one special, to Kihyun that is. He lets out another heavy sigh.
“And I can’t believe you have Minhyuk talking to him for you.”
Changkyun laughed by Kihyun’s side, massaging his shoulders. “He’s not that bad looking, hyung.”
But for Y/N? Kihyun thought to himself, being shaken by his younger friend’s hands. Not good enough for Y/N, he thought.
Okay, maybe he was a little over protective of you. And maybe a tad jealous.
Just a little bit, he thinks.
He peeked at you from the corner of his eyes and you were literally resting your head on your hands, sighing in admiration over the other guy. Kihyun made a face at you, and you laugh.
“See? Even Kyun agrees,” you tease Kihyun, poking his arm. You let your hand rest on his stiff forearm. Kihyun could feel the heat of your skin through his clothes.
“What’s so great about him?” he asks, his voice dripping in sarcasm as he takes a swig from his drink, a tad curious.
You turn away from the man, leaning with your back on the counter, facing the two male friends of yours. You peek back at him over your shoulder coyly, and start to list.
“Well, I think even if his hair isn’t natural, I love how it looks on him.”
Kihyun unconsciously runs his hands through his hair, ruffling up his naturally brown hair.
“And he has these intense, warm brown eyes…”
Kihyun exchanged a glance with Changkyun, opening his eyes wider. His dongsaeng nods, amused.
I have that, Kihyun thought to himself.
“Oh, and look at those arms though. Like he’s buff, but not too bulky. Ah!”
The boy looked down at himself, thinking he has what it takes. He flexed his arms, coolly, clenching his hands into fists, as he crossed his arms over his chest.
Kihyun exchanged glances with Changkyun again, waving his eyebrows. Changkyun smirks, whispering, “Can you not be that obvious, hyung?”
You put your hands over your chest, clasped together dreamily.
“And he’s soooo tall,” you pretend to swoon, spinning once in your spot.
And then, Changkyun bursts out laughing, slapping Kihyun on the back. Kihyun clenched his jaw, scoffing in defeat.
He couldn’t help it that all his friends were giants, he was still tall too. Taller than you, and from your perspective, that would be all that matters right?
Kihyun rolled his eyes, as you fantasized about the other man, incomparable to him. He had all the traits you described, and much, much more to offer to you.
And, of course, he only wanted what was best for you, even though he felt like he had the potential to be a whole lot better than the other dude.
Suddenly, Minhyuk is motioning for you to come over and talk with them. You look nervously at the two boys beside you, smoothing down your hair, and fidgeting with the hem of your skirt.
“Go on then, to the man of your dreams,” Changkyun cheered, hanging an arm around Kihyun’s shoulder lazily.
Kihyun was visibly annoyed, his jaw clenched but he waved his hand, motioning for you to go greet them.
You walked over to them, Kihyun’s eyes trailing after your giddy steps. He watched as you tucked your hair behind your ear, and laugh at whatever stupid thing that guy was saying as you introduced yourselves.
“Ugh,” Kihyun grew pale, turning away from the scene, drinking his beer, dropping it back on the counter, empty with a loud clatter.
Changkyun looked at him amusedly. He smiled at his hyung knowingly, not speaking. He dared Kihyun to talk about it first, he knew the brown haired boy would break soon.
Kihyun had his own little fixation on you, Changkyun knew that. Kihyun would talk about the small things you did that day, or ask about you when he was away, or all those times where Changkyun has peaked a look at Kihyun’s screen and he was scrolling through your Instagram.
Kihyun had a crush on you.
A genuine, red-faced, stuttering and clumsy thing for you.
A check your social media thrice daily, and send a text a few minutes late just to be nonchalant, thing for you.
Changkyun sipped his drink, watching you flutter around Hoseok, or whatever the hell his name was. He couldn’t deny that he would rather you be fawning over his Kihyun instead.
You rest a hand on Hoseok’s arm, engaging with him in conversation. You give him your full attention, your eyes twinkling with delight over him.
The tall man flicked your hair over your shoulder, surprising you with his boldness.
Kihyun’s hand clenched around the bottle, his knuckles turning white.
Too close.
Minhyuk is walking back over to you guys, glancing back at the pair of you chatting at the corner of the bar. He’s raising her brows, and making a wide-eyed face. When he’s within earshot of the other men, he finally speaks.
“Sooo, what do you think?” He was just happy at the prospect of putting yourself out there, since he wanted you to start dating, “They look pretty good!”
“Great!”
“God awful.”
Changkyun and Kihyun chime in at the same time, followed by a deadpanned Kihyun, looking on with half lidded eyes, trying to look anywhere else. It was difficult, especially when you’re the brightest soul in the room.
“Terrible choice, Min, I mean, come on,” Kihyun gestures over towards you and the other guy. “He’s wearing white jeans, with holes!” He was trying to hold onto anything as an insult towards this guy, standing in his tall glory, “Pretentious, isn’t it?”
Kihyun huffed, leaning back on the counter, ruffling his hair in annoyance.
Minhyuk laughed, shaking his head, nearly wagging a finger at Kihyun, “Honey, but doesn’t he look good?”
Changkyun nodded in agreement between the two of them, shrugging.
“Hey, looks aren’t everything,” Kihyun contradicted himself, just making fun of his clothes seconds earlier, “Bet he sounds like a total ass hat.” He ordered a new can of beer, he needed a drink to keep his mind off you.
He squinted his eyes at the sight of Hoseok motioning at something with his hands, and you giggling at it, placing a hand on his chest.
Kihyun’s blood was boiling.
“Come on, Kihyun, she looks happy,” Minhyuk spoke, tracing a circle with his fingers on the wooden counter. If you were happy, he was too.
I mean, they all wanted that.
Kihyun rolled his neck in a small circle, annoyed, but he wasn’t going to do anything about it. What could he do about it? You were smiling brightly.
They spent the next hour chatting amongst themselves, sipping drinks and trying to be wingmen for you. You could feel their eyes looking over you through the night.
Kihyun had his back turned to you, trying desperately not to look. He didn’t really want to see that smile aimed at anyone else. He slouched against the counter of the bar, laughing and talking loudly so that maybe you would grow curious and come back.
He wanted you by his side. He would so rather have you giggling and cracking jokes and dancing beside him than some random guy you just met. Besides, Kihyun had all those qualities you so readily swooned over. Except the tall part though, and the blonde hair.
But whatever.
Changkyun and Minhyuk kept an eye on you while talking with Kihyun; checking over his shoulder to see you cozying up with Hoseok. They missed your presence too, at least wishing you would bring the guy over towards the group.
The night rolled on, long and dim.
Hoseok was talking to you about his job, and about some supposedly cool thing at the office. You weren’t too interested, but smiling pretty and nodding along with his story.
You were both leaning against the wall, enjoying the company. It was a little awkward, but meeting someone new was always a little like that, so you weren’t too worried.
He was drinking a whole lot though.
You ran your finger over the lip of your glass, drawing a small circle while you listened. You were growing fidgety just standing in one spot while he spoke. You shifted the weight on your legs, your feet silently killing you.
You glanced over to your group of friends, Changkyun telling a wild story while motioning with his arms. Minhyuk was laughing hard, throwing his head back. And you were sure that Kihyun was laughing too, his form was shaking, but you could only see his back.
He wasn’t facing you.
You could only see his brown hair bouncing, and hear his laugh faintly from the corner of the bar. You felt a little pang of loneliness; you wish you could at least see his face.
You turned back to Hoseok, who was still rambling away, bragging about himself again, and his hand touched your exposed arm, grazing you gently. The scent of alcohol was strong on his breath, and you were starting to wonder how much he had to drink.
He smiled at you, leaning in closer,
“Want to go somewhere cozier?”
You jumped a little, goosebumps forming and a chill running down your spine. You were a little cold and shocked at his touch with your passing thoughts
You stammer a little, caught off guard, “Uhm, no I’m still here with my friends but, “You were pulling out your phone, readying yourself to at least exchange numbers.
Hoseok shook his head, smiling sneakily, “Come on, let’s go out somewhere. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.” His hand was fully holding your arm now, rubbing up and down slowly.
You bit your lip, a little nervous at his forwardness. You shook your head back at him.
“N-no thanks, I’m fine.”
He was generally a nice guy, and you were content with just talking. His physical advances made you uncomfortable and the way he was leaning over you so suddenly scared you.
Hoseok stepped closer to you, invading your personal space, and touched your chin. His eyes were dark; you couldn’t read them.
You did not like this.
Kihyun was still facing away from you, softly humming to the music by himself. He was oblivious to the situation brewing behind him until Minhyuk shook his arm, worry written across his face.
He watched as Changkyun frowned, setting his drink down already walking over to you.
Kihyun raised a brow, “Wait, what’s going on–?”
He turned to see Hoseok holding your arm, and the back of your neck. He pulled you into an unwanted kiss, you were squirming underneath him and trying your best to push at his chest to break away from him.
You were gasping for air when Hoseok broke apart from you, and he was smiling lazily. He was obviously drunk and nearly falling over onto you. You stumble backwards, holding up his sloppy form.
He raised his head to speak, swaggering and pressing his full weight on you, but a familiar voice cut him off.
“What the fuck!”
You whipped your head around, pushing the drunk man off of you. Hoseok stumbled, leaning himself up against the wall, bumping into a nearby table.
It was Kihyun, walking angry towards you. Changkyun was following in suit, his eyes narrowed.
Kihyun stepped in closer to you, pulling you behind him to put himself between you and Hoseok. His back faced you still, you couldn’t see his face, but could imagine it based off his squared up posture.
“Kihyun!”
His hand was outstretched, signaling for you to stay behind him. You felt a small wave of relief fall over you, feeling protected but guilty. You wipe your lips with the back of your hand unconsciously as Changkyun stands next to you, backing up Kihyun. His arms were crossed tightly in front of him.
“What the fuck, man!” Kihyun growls, angled towards the drunk man.
Hoseok waved his hands, his light hair falling in front of his eyes, “What? She was into me!”
Changkyun stepped in front of you then, blocking most of you with his shoulder and retorted, “Well that’s not an excuse to forcefully kiss her, you fucking prick.” His voice sounded calm and level, but you knew better. His voice was only that level when he was angry.
“Well, she talked to me all night,” Hoseok spat, standing up tall, “She owes me that much.”
“You fucker,” You saw Kihyun’s fist shaking, his whole body vibrating in anger. His jaw was clenched tight, and he was giving the most murderous stare to the man before him. He was more than ready to beat this idiot down.
Minhyuk walked up behind you, clutching your shoulders and smoothing down your hair, asking if you were alright.
You nodded, “I’m just a little shaken… I’m fine though.”
Hoseok overheard that, jeering, “See? It’s fine, she liked it!” He motioned with his arms, “Just a little rougher than she’s used to, right boys?”
You watched Changkyun close his eyes and shake his head, silent in disbelief.
“What the fuck is wrong with you, you fucker?” Kihyun erupted, walking to the guy with heavy footsteps. He was ready to murder this man. He stood in front of him, coming up to Hoseok’s nose.
Hoseok looked at him apathetically, still speaking,
“What? I’m speaking the truth.”
Kihyun grabbed his collar, shaking him with a surprising strength, readying to deck him in his pretty face. His face was scrunched in rage as Hoseok cowered slightly.
“Stop!” you call, jogging up to them, you pushed past Changkyun.
Kihyun froze, but didn’t release him.
Hoseok looked at you, stupidly asking, “Coming back for more?” He was standing arrogantly, his weight on one leg.
“Fuck you.”
You scrunched your face and threw your red drink over him, spilling over his face, clothes, and white pants as Kihyun loosened his grip.
You pushed him hard with both hands, and he staggered backwards, bumping against the wall and then falling to the floor, making a large commotion.
Hoseok looked up at you, red liquid dripping down his face, and spat, “What the fuck!” He wiped his face on his arm roughly.
“Hey!” some employees called, coming closer to your group, the entire bar had their eyes on you. You heard a hush whisper fall over the crowd, cameras snapping all around.
Before you could respond, someone was holding your arm back, pulling you away. As you were taken away, you kicked his boot hard, while he was still struggling to get up off the floor.
The strong arm guided you out of the bar, and as you continued to look back you saw Minhyuk pour another drink over his head while shouting some profanities.
You cracked a small smile, finally looking forward to see who was pulling out of the bar into the cool air. You see Changkyun walking alongside you, his hand pressed hard on your back.
And then there was Kihyun.
He was pulling your arm, walking in front of you at a quick, and angry pace. His back was still turned to you, and you still couldn’t see what expression he held.
“You guys go ahead, I’ll wait for Minhyuk.” Changkyun said to you, dropping his hand and waiting at the corner. You nodded.
The both of you walk in silence, Kihyun with a strong grip on you. You could hear him huffing angrily, and you looked down at your feet, a little embarrassed, and a little ashamed.
The quiet air between you was unbearable.
“Kihyun?” you say, pulling yourself back to a halt. You needed to see his face.
He stops in front of you, dropping your arm, and crossing his. His shoulders looked so wide, and you saw the rise and drop of them as he sighed angrily.
“What were you thinking?” he scolds, his voice was low and sharp, cutting through the night’s cool breeze.
You turn to the side, ashamed, and rub the spot where he held you,
“I-I don’t know, he just forced himself on me… I wasn’t trying to…“ Tears welled up in your eyes, as you bit your lip to stop them from falling. The last thing you wanted was to cry while you were being scolded by a friend. You were more hurt that you made Kihyun and the others mad and worried, than the fact that you were kissed by some bar creep.
“I didn’t want to kiss him…”
Kihyun dropped his arms, his fists shaking a bit. He sighed again, trying to regain his composure.
From behind you saw him run his fingers through his ruffled hair, and then take off his jacket. He finally turned to face you.
Kihyun’s face was upturned a bit, his jaw sharp as he gritted his teeth. His eyebrows were knitted together tight, lines pressed hard in between him. You could see in his eyes that he was still furious.
You cowered away a little, not able to look him in the eye. You hung your head down, shutting your eyes.
Kihyun let out a small breath, trying to calm himself as he saw your glassy eyes. He dropped his arm roughly, slapping the sides of his legs with a resounding smack. He looked at your shivering form, and slid his jacket off.
“Sorry, Y/N.”
Kihyun threw his jacket over you, rubbing your shoulders softly. He smoothed down your hair, his touch was so gentle and kind now. You leaned into his hand, and he rubbed your head gingerly.
“I’m sorry, it wasn’t your fault at all, I just—I just lost my cool.”
You peek up at him, his brown eyes were softer as he wiped a stray tear off your cheek with his thumb. He blinked slowly, inhaling deeply to try to regain some composure,
“But I should have just fucking punched that guy.”
You hold his jacket close over your shoulders, thankful for the warmth, and smile a little. Kihyun cared about you so much.
“I should have punched him,” you argued, snuggling into his coat, warmed by his body. You begin to start walking, one of your hands holding his jacket closed over you.
Kihyun matched your pace, shaking his head at your fearlessness, “Are you alright though?”
You bit your lip, remembering the unsavory taste of an unwanted kiss. You blinked hard and shook the thoughts away, “Yeah, I’m fine.”
A warm hand grabbed your own then, surprising you. You looked down at them, and followed up the arm, landing on Kihyun.
He wasn’t looking at you, only facing forwards, but his ears were starting to glow red. You turn away, blushing yourself at the sudden contact. Your fingers easily intertwine with his.
It was comfortable.
“God, Y/N, please don’t scare us like that again,” he said breathily. He peeked over at you, his lips almost forming a smile as he tried to lighten the mood, “Would have had a better time if you stayed with us.”
You blushed and defended, “Hey! I didn’t know he was going to be an asshole!” You pretended to pull your hand back, tugging your arm up.
Kihyun held it back down, gripping it tighter, “Y/N, the white pants? At a bar? He’s definitely an asshole, babe.” He had an exasperated smirk spread on his face. He was still feeling the end tail of anger in his veins, but he wanted you to be smiling and light hearted. He didn’t want any tears from you tonight.
“Well, his white pants are ruined now, and he can’t prey on anyone else tonight,” you offer, a little proud of your counter attack, “Everyone saw too!” You huff defiantly.
Kihyun raised his brows at that, swaying his head at you, before looking forward. His tone turned serious again, less scolding, but more firm,
“Stay with me next time.” His brown eyes peered into yours, demanding your compliance.
“You?” you send him a small smile, your stomach doing a small flip at the insinuation. He’s never really inserted himself like that before.
“Us, I said ‘us’ right?” Kihyun bit his tongue at the little slip as he tried to recover.
God, your crush is showing, he thought to himself, throwing his head back a little.
You smiled at him, his cheeks were growing pink. You bumped his shoulder with yours as you walked, expecting him to give. But instead you bounced off of his firm frame, forcing you to stumble to the side a bit.
Kihyun looked at you, chuckling quietly at your antics, and swung your hand in his lightly in response. You giggle, understanding his sentiment but fidgeting at the implication.
He walks you back to your apartment, walking together in content chatter. He holds your hand the whole way, something uncommon but not unwelcomed. It made your heart race thinking about it, so you focused on the small conversation you made with him, admiring his facial expression as he spoke, and watching him smooth down his hair.
He walks you into your building and all the way to your door.
You separate hands then, needing to rummage through your purse to fetch your keys.
Kihyun looks down at his own, already missing your touch, and shoves his hands into his pockets.
You open the door, stepping in, expecting him to follow.
“Wanna come in for a bit?” you ask, turning to him as you slip your heels off. You voice was a little high from the excitement.
“Ahhh, no, I’m just going to head back to the dorm,” He tilted his head, leaning his body to the side, he wanted to run. His mind was flipping through what it meant when you hold hands with a friend, who you like more than a friend.
Fuck.
You pout your lips a little, disappointed, but nod. He was already turning on his heel to leave, when you call out to him, remembering you had his coat.
“Wait! Kihyun!”
Kihyun turns back, an eyebrow raised, jogging back to you.
“Your coat!” you say, as you looked down to slip it off your shoulders.
His hands shot forward, holding yours onto the jacket, pulling it back up. His voice was low and close to you as he spoke,
“Keep it for tonight.” He wanted to leave a piece of himself with you tonight, as if it could watch over you as a protective charm.
You laugh at little, looking up at him, “But you need it, you’re walking back, Kihyun! And it’s getting chilly—“
His large hands massaged the sides of your arms, and he smiled with his eyes crinkling,
“Keep it.”
Kihyun’s face was soft, his brown eyes reflected your confused form in front of him. He squeezed your shoulders softly, stepping closer to you, he couldn’t hold it in any longer.
“Y/N.”
“What?” you ask softly, taken by his sudden proximity. It felt warm, and intoxicating almost. He smelled nice, and you could count the freckles on his face as he drew in. Your eyes were bouncing all over his face, trying to read his expression.
His eyes looked like he was asking something of you.
You craned your neck up, tilting your head inquisitively, wondering what it would mean if you leaned in closer.
You watched Kihyun’s lips part open.
Yes.
Kihyun closed his eyes, closing the gap between you.
You were met with a tender kiss, his lips softly pressed against yours. You closed your eyes as the kiss deepened, your hands held gingerly against his chest, feeling his heart thump wildly.
The kiss lasted only moments, but a wave of passion washed over you. You felt weightless in his embrace, not wanting it to end.
Kihyun pulled away, pleased with his effort, as he saw you dazed and speechless.
He smiled coolly, and in a low voice spoke,
“Sorry, Y/N.”
Your mouth was hanging open as you stared back at him, blinking wildly.
“I couldn’t leave you with a bad taste in your mouth tonight.”
Kihyun dropped his arms after pinching your cheek playfully and scratching the back of his head. He chuckled, pursing his lips, but turning his eyes away from you,
“Well, I don’t want any drinks spilled over me tonight, so I’ll be taking my leave.”
Your hand went up to touch your lips, sanitized by your cheeky brown haired friend. A fiery red kissed your cheeks where his hand touched you.
Kihyun took your prolonged silence as his cue to leave, so he peeked one last glance at your blushing face, unsure of what it meant. He didn’t want to face this right now, so he turned to leave again, ready to scream profanities into the open street.
“Good night, Y/N.”
He walked away briskly, scrunching his face, wondering if he made the right choice. He was going to bring a hand up to wipe his face.
A small hand stopped him.
Upon seeing his form leave, and seeing his back face you again, you snapped back into reality. You were stricken, and anxious to see his face, and you wanted to ask him why he did that, and ask him how he felt, and what this all means…
You run into the hallway, chasing him down and grab his hand from behind. You were in such a rush you left your apartment door wide open, and ran out with bare feet, huffing.
Kihyun turned back to you, doing that thing where he quietly licks his lips. A victorious and relieved smile curled on his lips.
You look at him, eyes innocent and hopeful, and you quietly whisper.
“Stay.”

Thief
KihyunxReader drabble. I wanted to play with first person for funsies.
When you realize it’s not him throwing off the covers, it’s you stealing them. God, how does even still date you?
[Last dated entry, 1/3/2022]
Dearest, most-privatest diary;
Do you ever notice how when we watch movies, especially rom-coms, we’re always like gosh she’s such a pretty crier, I wish I wasn’t a sniveling snotty mess when I cry?
I always know somewhere in the back of my head that everyone wishes they weren’t ugly criers, and Hollywood is trying to sell me on UNREALISTIC EMOTIONAL STANDARDS.
Because everyone is ugly when they cry, and there’s no getting around it.
It’s a fact I’ve come to terms with.
But, diary, today I have a more important gripe. I want to talk about blushing.
You know what I’m talking about. The mythical ‘cute’ blush.
Are there people out there who ‘lightly blush?’ You know, just rosy cheeks and endearing minor embarrassment, where it looks like your make-up was super on point?
Or like you’re having a really good time, like when it’s a bit chilly out but you’ve just had a killer snowball fight and you’re all excited?
I’m not saying it’s impossible. I’m just saying, I’m not sure I’ve seen it. And it has nothing to do with the fact that I look like a satanic cherub when I blush. Not that I blush easily. Or often.
It’s just that…can you even fight a blush? Is there a way to squish it back down? Inquiring minds would like to know. Seriously. I’m going to look this up later. For...curiosity.
…actually, I lied. I looked it up just now. Allow me to enlighten you, diary. I know you’re desperately curious.
Google says “Ten tips to stop blushing”:
1) Breathe deeply and slowly. Taking slow, deep breaths …blah blah blah. Next.
2) Smile – I’m sorry, what? I don’t understand how this is supposed to help. Now I’m you’re beet red and smiling, big whoop. Everyone already can see your tomato-face, genius.
3) Cool off. Okay, we’re one for three so far. Stick your head in the freezer, that’s…not bad, actually. And since the number one solution is to run away and die in a hole, maybe I can add this as a less drastic back-up plan.
4. Make sure you’re hydrated. …I think you get the idea, diary. I don’t know why I expected anything useful.
(There’s no question in my mind which one it belongs to, in any case. I absolutely haven’t been avoiding Kihyun since we left dinner.)
If it makes you feel any better, this other article said it's part of the fight or flight response.
Personally, I think they’re mistaking cause and effect. It’s not that fight or flight causes the blush; it's the blush that causes the flight.
...I guess it’s time for me to get to the point, isn’t it? That whole 'this is a diary confess your sins shit'? God, I can feel myself getting red just thinking about it. Too bad Kihyun is in the kitchen. That freezer thing is sounding pretty good right about now...
Okay, deep breaths. Here we go.
The night started pretty normal, yeah? First you're just doing your own thing, trying to be a cool girlfriend to a cool dude and his cool ass friends who are basically his siblings, and he invited you to dinner with them for the first time and it's totally no big deal at all, right?
I'm lying, diary. I was maybe a little apprehensive.
But I was doing so well, really. Eating dinner, trading banter, and the next thing you know, I've gone from blending in (pretty damn well, if I do say so myself) to 'who let in this rabid weirdo?'
Seven. Heads. On a swivel.
Diary, you don't understand. It was like some grossly over-coordinated puppet show. I think that's the sort of shit nightmares are made of.
Nightmares, do you understand?
It's not like I wasn't a good sport about it, honest. I'm totally roastable. And look, I know it's going to help me in the long run. You can't be too stand-offish or uppity, otherwise people will think you're too aloof, too...unrelatable.
So no one in Monsta X is ever going to think I'm cool. At least maybe I'm the likeable idiot?
Let's be clear about this.
It's not that I said something silly that kills me. That's old news. I've been sticking my foot in my mouth since I was a kid.
But come. On.
Kihyun didn't tell me! We've been dating for almost four months. Sleeping together for literal weeks.
Bro ain't gonna tell me I'm a blanket thief???
He's just been over there, letting me think he's an oven warmer type of dude and not a lowkey freeze baby because he's too polite to steal the covers back?
No, no. That's wrong. This is not all Kihyun's fault. I never noticed that he's been sleeping in his sweats, either.
...I am an Only Child. That means I get a free pass, right? Right. Thank you, diary, for taking my side.
I didn't have anyone to share the bed with growing up, and it's not like I've had that many long term lovers!
But god, why didn't he just say something sooner? Why'd I have to find out in front of all of his friends?
Can you cure blanket theft? Is this what it feels like to find out you're a snorer? You're just sort stuck with it for life and you better hope your partner is deaf or something?
Hold on.
...do I snore, too?
I am ripping my hair out over here, diary. Yes, of course Kihyun snores, but it's kind of cute. It's like having a little dragon next to me.
Stealing the covers is not cute. Not when he apparently hates being cold.
Uh, diary. I think he's coming to bed...I'm going to go pretend to be asleep. Later.
[Continued from the previous entry. The pen and handwriting are both different.]
Hey, diary. Kihyun here.
Your owner actually fell asleep, but don't worry. She and I are going to talk in the morning.
I just wanted to let you know...if your owner is a satanic cherub, she's the cutest damn cherub I've ever seen.
Seriously. She's smart and funny and attractive, and most of the time she's super put together. And every now and again you tease her and it's like this whole other side comes out when you're least expecting it.
So the blush? Yeah, I'm about it.
And also, if you're reading this...I didn't tell you because I didn't actually want to embarass you. I was afraid you'd be worried about it.
But look. It is like snoring. Or, like my snoring, anyway.
Because snoring? Right up there with ugly crying. Fact of life. I figured whoever I was with would just have to learn to live with it. Thanks for thinking it's endearing, I guess.
(P.S. I promise you don't snore.)
I won't lie. You're a total blanket hog. But honestly, you can probably learn to share. And if not, we'll get more or something.
Sorry for hijacking your diary. I still love you, beet red and all. Kihyun out.
[Final entry. Original handwriting.]
So, uh. Oops?
Diary, I'm sorry. It's been a while. But Kihyun and I talked, like he said we would, and we're cool now. I don't even mind that he read my diary. I should probably learn to express my thoughts to him and not you, anyway.
(Don't worry, you and I will still be buddies. But he gets to hear the important stuff first.)
I just wanted to give you an update on the whole blushing thing.
Those tips? Totally didn't work. I'm probably going to be a tomato-for-lifer. But it's cool. I've come to accept it...most of the time.
It helps that Kihyun doesn't think I'm an idiot when it happens, though.
Before I go...
Since I know what you really wanted to hear diary, oh queen of the gossip-mongers, I'll tell you.
As it turns out, you may not be able to cure blushing, but you can cure blanket stealing tendencies. At least, it worked for us.
How, you ask?
Elementary, my dear diary. Elementary.
Save a blanket. Just cuddle a Kihyun.
[A crude drawing of a pair of sticks appears to be wrapped in a burrito, next to an illegible signature. There are no additional entries.]

Malignatas
Edited 1/5/21: new summary.
Me: Okay, I've done a couple of oneshots...let's try a mini-series!
Also me: let's write the contemporary ladyhawke!AU that no one asked for.
Malignatas, a KihyunxReader mini-series
Chapter 1: The Hotel
WC: 2.8k
Summary: You and Kihyun thought you knew what you were getting into when you decided to make your relationship public. Neither of you were prepared for a curse from a spiteful fan, cast to keep you apart forever.
He’s having the strangest dream. He’d even go so far as to call it a nightmare, because it feels like it’s been dragging on for hours. He just wants to finish cleaning before he goes to bed for the night, but he can see the crumbs. They’re barely even crumbs, honestly, how did no one see these and just pick them the hell up?
He needs to have another talk about common area etiquette with his roommates.
But he pushes and angles for approach after approach and he just can’t get to the offending particles – they’re under the couch and has it always sat this low?
He’s starting to think it might be the remnants of movie night – definitely going to have words with someone later – but no matter how hard he tries he can’t quite maneuver far enough, and when at last he reaches to stick his hand underneath, someone comes and pulls him away.
He doesn’t want to leave. He wants to finish sweeping.
Hyungwon, he wants to protest, don’t you see it? It’s right there! But no one answers and suddenly he realizes it’s not Hyungwon, and he remembers this isn’t a dream.
This is his life now.
His rescuer is moving, he can tell that much. He can’t actually hear, not like this, he’s limited to the sensors built into this stupid plastic body, but he can tell from the vibrations that whoever is carrying him is talking, maybe to him and maybe to someone else.
He hopes they put him down soon. They’re not being very gentle, and he’s starting to feel ill with the swaying and the blurring on the edges of his mechanical vision. Everything is unfocused and he can’t help but think this is probably what it feels like to be seasick.
Reprieve comes right as he feels like he can’t hold it down another second more, and he’s ready to be properly embarrassed, but he lands sideways in something soft. There’s still motion, but it’s like someone has cushioned all of his senses, like being wrapped in a comforter on a cold night, and he’s so relieved that he’s not getting anymore input he doesn’t bother to question where he’s going, too focused on trying to quell the roiling in his stomach.
---------------------------------------------------------
It's an hour before sunset when the group chat dings.
Can someone help Kihyun to the charging station? His battery has been low for a while now, and I think he might be stuck someplace. I’m leaving now, should be back soon.
Changkyun sees the message without really reading it. He’s in an item picking round in TFT, and he just wants to think about nothing. He processes it slowly, as he starts to lose, and suddenly he looks up.
“Hey, Honey. Have you seen Kihyun recently? His battery is low. Noona thinks he might be stuck someplace.”
Jooheon blinks blankly back at him. He’s been absorbed in a drama since they got back from dinner an hour ago, so the question is a bit ridiculous. He doesn’t notice anything when he’s catching up on his show.
“Ki. Hyun.” Changkyun says slowly, to make sure the words sink in. “Short, round? Likes rolling around on the floor? His battery is low and noona wants us to make sure he isn’t stuck.” He drops his phone on the couch – the game is a lost cause, anyway – and stands, cracking his back in a long stretch. “Although, come to think of it, I haven’t seen him for a while.”
Jooheon absently pauses the drama, realization dawning. “I don’t think I have, either. He’s going to be pissed if he wakes up all puffy because he didn’t get charged today.” The two stare at each other, self-preservation kicking in, and Changkyun drops to his knees to look underneath the couch while Jooheon runs to the bedroom.
It’s a hotel room, and a swanky one at that, so it’s mostly empty of clutter. It doesn’t take them long to realize that he’s not there, not under the couch or the bed or stuck on the little ledge that drops down into the tiny kitchenette. They meet back up by the entrance, flushed and starting to get anxious for reasons totally unrelated to their own wellbeing, but trying to contain it.
Only one of them is succeeding, because Jooheon is totally freaking out. He’s whispering under his breath “we lost Kihyun we lost Kihyun we lost Kihyun” like he’s about to start hyperventilating as if he isn’t already.
Changkyun reaches out to rest a hand on his friend’s shoulder, giving it a firm squeeze. “Maybe he’s with Minhyuk and Hyungwon. Let’s not panic.” The wide-eyed look he receives implies that suggestion is falling on deaf ears, and Changkyun hurriedly steers him out of their room and down the hall to the suite shared by the others.
“You – what?!” Minhyuk ends on a half screech, hair fluffed from the nap he’d been woken from. It would almost be funny if the situation weren’t so dire.
Changkyun takes another deep breath. He loves his hyungs, but sometimes they make being the mature one exceedingly easy. “We can’t find Kihyun. Is he here?” Minhyuk is still standing dumbfounded in the door way, and Jooheon dashes past him to tear frantically through the suite, leaving Changkyun to face Minhyuk.
Minhyuk doesn’t smack him, but it’s clear he’s hanging on by a thread. He was never meant to be the leader, never meant to deal with situations like this. How could Hyunwoo ever have thought it was a good idea to trust him with this responsibility in his absence? It had been nothing short of disaster thus far, and it was getting worse. He didn’t know it could get worse.
Changkyun’s urgency is in his voice and his eyes, and somehow his stability is enough to brace Minhyuk, to reel him back from the brink. Minhyuk pulls himself back together, because Hyunwoo had trusted him and dammit he could handle this.
They’d met before leaving for lunch, that was last time they’d seen Kihyun. He’d been fine, then, and no one had been back until after dinner. It’s not like he got up and walked away, and there weren’t any signs of a break in. Minhyuk nods his head, more to himself than to Changkyun.
Hyungwon, forever the voice of reason, must have caught enough of the explanation between Jooheon’s rampaging and the last of their conversation. He’s wet from the shower, wrapped only in a towel.
“It must have been room service. They’re the only other people who have a key, and they did make the beds while we were gone.” He’s oblivious to his dripping on the floor, even if he must be cold, and Changkyun’s not sure he’s ever been so grateful to have another rational human being around.
Changkyun glances at his watch and swears. It’s almost sundown and things are going to get very difficult to explain very quickly if they don’t find Kihyun soon. “Hyungwon, wait with Jooheon for noona. She’s on her way back, but make sure she stays here. One of them missing is bad enough. Minhyuk, let’s go to the front desk. We need to find housekeeping.”
---------------------------------------------------------
The new floor is cold and so, so, dirty. He can’t stand to think about what all he’s picked up since he’s been released. He’s actually full this time, too, so he can’t even carry anything more. It’s just aimless wandering now, vacuum off, and he can’t help but feel like something is terribly wrong.
Surely it’s been hours by now, surely she should have come for him?
There’s so much stuff here, things he can’t help but knock into when it’s this dark, but he can feel himself slowing down, feels the slow whine of his motors losing strength. Where is she? Maybe she didn’t get the notification, and he tries to send another string of errors, I’m full. Battery low. Help, I’m stuck on a cliff!
He hopes she was only busy before, and this time she’ll get his messages and do that thing where she reads his mind and understands that he’s in trouble and he’s all alone and it’s really dark here. Despite all they’ve been through, he can’t help but feel afraid this time, and he doesn’t like being afraid.
The quiet mayday signal saps the last of his latent power. He chugs to a slow stop, huddling in the dark. The only sign of life is the steady pulsing of his heartbeat in time with a lone red LED piercing the darkness, and everything is still.
---------------------------------------------------------
There’s a minor flaw with their whole ‘don’t tell Noona’ plan, in that you still get push notifications. When you see the barrage of errors come flying in on your phone and no response from anyone else to your earlier message, you know immediately something is wrong.
By all rights, you should be furious. But you can’t find it in yourself to be too angry with them, because it’s not their fault, not really. It’s not the way this stupid curse was supposed to work in the first place.
He was supposed to be safe. He was supposed to be protected and secure, spending his days at home and his nights on stage. You were the one who was supposed to be at risk, the one who was meant to be fragile and easily lost.
And even if you don’t know exactly what happened today, you’re certain no one else in Monsta X would do anything to hurt Kihyun. They may not take care of him quite as well as you would, on the days when you’re out doing research and chasing down leads, but they love him nonetheless and he knows that. You know that.
It doesn’t take you long, when you speed into the hotel lobby, to put the pieces together. Changkyun is having an agitated conversation with the concierge, Minhyuk as witness, struggling to follow along in English at that speed.
Changkyun looks intense, but not angry, not yet, and it seems like maybe he’s getting somewhere.
You cut through the line to join them at the desk, laptop bag over your shoulder and fresh cup of Starbucks in hand for Kihyun, when you hear the woman behind Minhyuk mutter to her husband in something that was absolutely not a whisper “Who in their right mind brings a Roomba to a hotel?” And it takes everything in you to suppress the urge to accidentally dump Kihyun’s coffee all over the woman’s outrageously expensive white feather coat.
But you don’t, because that would mean making a scene that you don’t have time for, because it’ll be sunset soon and they still don’t know where Kihyun is.
When the concierge at last hangs up the phone, after a ten minute wait and three and a half minute exchange in Spanish, not that you were counting, he looks uncomfortably guilty, and the tension radiating off the three of you is almost palpable. “I’m sorry, sirs….ma’am. It seems as though one of the maids thought the Roomba had been placed in your room by mistake, as part of a pilot program we’re launching soon.”
He shifts nervously on his feet, tugging at the pressed red and gold of his uniform. He’s used to dealing with over-the-top guests, though usually it’s not his fault, and this time it is. “But, ah…they left it in the basement and it seems to have wandered off. I have housekeeping looking for it, now.”
That last was enough for Minhyuk to understand, and it looks like he wants to crawl over the desk to throttle to the concierge, so you put one hand on his arm, not holding him back but grounding him, and he rethinks his initial course of action. “Can we help look for it? It’s very important that we get it back.”
The concierge – you lean in to read his nametag, it’s Zak – looks like he’s about to shoot them down, and you decide it’s time to intervene. Squaring off your shoulders and giving him your best I’m so sorry my friends have inconvenienced you and not the other way around look, you push past Changkyun to the desk.
“Hi, Zak.” Your voice is too kind for the occasion, and you wonder where you find it in yourself to be this patient when all you want to do is run to the basement with Changkyun and Minhyuk and find Kihyun. “I’m sorry, but it’s their prototype. They’re really attached to it, they built it themselves from scratch and it’s practically part of the family.”
You lean in even closer, mock whispering to Zak, who seems to be caught in the charm you're spinning, “You know these tech types, right? They’re a little strange, but they mean well enough.” And the forced smile you give him must be enough because he shrugs weakly as at last he relents.
“I’ll…call someone to escort you right away. I’m sorry for the trouble.”
And he does, while you move to the side with Changkyun and Minhyuk who are just as impatient. There are chairs nearby, too, but no one wants to sit.
“I want to help,” your voice is strained as your façade cracks. “But I should probably go...” The whipped cream on Kihyun’s drink has long since deflated, and it manages to hide the shaking of your hand, if barely.
They exchange a look – you’re being more reasonable than expected, all things considered, but they probably should have known that. You were level headed before, and while the curse has been stressful for everyone, you haven’t given them any cause to doubt you.
And you trust them, so as much as you’d like to strip the basement to the studs with your bare hands to find Kihyun, you don’t.
“We’ve got him,” Changkyun reassures you. Lip between your teeth, you nod. You hate waiting, but right now, it’s the best thing you can do. For everyone. The elevator ride to the 16th floor feels like the longest of your entire life, but when you get back, at least Hyungwon and Jooheon are there with you.
They try to keep you distracted, busying you with helping ready everyone’s things for the evening. Because of course they have a performance tonight, and, of course, the show must go on.
Or else.
---------------------------------------------------------
When the maid turns the lights on, their hearts sink. There’s so much junk piled in this hotel basement they hardly know where to start. Broken chairs and torn couches are shoved up against the walls, and laundry baskets overflowing with linens create makeshift walkways…plenty of places for a Roomba to get stuck.
They split up without having to ask, and while the maid who came with them searches, too, she doesn’t have the same sense of frenzy. In fact, she seems downright concerned by the level of enthusiasm these two seemingly normal, attractive men are showing, with total disregard for their clothing and hair as they crawl along the ground with their phone flashlights on.
They’re hoping to catch a glimpse of curved black plastic and trying not to think about how much longer they have, and shutting that out helps them shut out the concerning quantity of dead roaches on the floor.
At least they’re dead, though.
On a whim, Minhyuk crosses the open space in the center of the basement, skipping a section where he’s pretty sure Kihyun wouldn’t even fit, and finally he finds him, tucked just out of sight underneath a draping bedsheet, and he yells in triumph.
Minhyuk flashes the maid a smile, an attempt to maintain some semblance of long-lost dignity, and they hurry back to the service elevator. She’s chagrined enough about having walked off with their Roomba that she lets them take the service lift back to their floor, instead of cutting through the lobby, and this time the gratitude is genuine.
Minhyuk is crushing the Roomba to his chest like it’s a stuffed toy and not 14” inches of rigid plastic disk. He keeps looking between the Roomba and the floor numbers like he’s afraid if he looks away it will disappear again. The silence is chokingly oppressive, and Changkyun spends the whole time glaring down at the seconds ticking by on his watch, willing them to move slower, because it’s less than two minutes until sundown, and the only thing they have going for them is that at least they’ve found Kihyun.
The elevator doors open slowly, too slowly, and it takes them a moment to get their bearings, because this is not where they’re used to getting out, but then they catch sight of the numbers and it’s a left down the hall and the last door on the right.
Changkyun sprints ahead to open the suite door, Minhyuk shortly behind, and between one breath and the next, they’re in and the Roomba is gone and Minhyuk is left supporting a naked, retching Kihyun.
“So…did you have a fun day?”

Malignatas: Chapter II
I got stranded in an airport and I haven't slept since yesterday, so it sounds like a great time to post chapter II.
Malignatas, a KihyunxReader mini-series
Chapter 2: The Aftermath
WC: 3k
Warnings: Pining/mild angst; swearing
Summary: You and Kihyun thought you knew what you were getting into when you decided to make your relationship public. Neither of you were prepared for a curse from a spiteful fan, cast to keep you apart forever.
Chapter 1
He can’t help but wonder, sometimes, if after all this she even still wants him.
She’s lost more than he can imagine, and he knows it’s mostly his fault. If it weren’t for the curse – the stupid, godsforsaken curse – he could do better. He could feel like he was contributing, like he was worth something. But on nights like this, when he’s feeling sorry for himself even as he still loves her, he wonders just how much has changed.
He’d tried, once. In the beginning, when the curse was still new and they were rebellious and ignorant, heedless of the warnings, he’d skipped an event. He was supposed to host on an evening program and he’d called out sick, wanting to do his part to find a cure.
They told him she hadn’t turned back, the next day.
He’d thought his heart would stop, but then it seemed as if he was being given a second chance, because he went to his performance the next evening and she came back again. Human again, and breathing, with the slimmest shot at a chance of having her life back one day.
It’s not a line he was willing to cross twice.
Now he goes to all of his performances, whether he wants to or not, sick or not. He’s lucky, he recognizes, to have the loving support of his friends, who know, and his fans, who don’t. He wouldn’t have – hadn’t – flaunted his relationship, anyway, but sometimes Monbebe still notices when he’s sad, and they’re quick to assure things will eventually get better.
It doesn’t take her place, but it helps.
He wonders if she wouldn’t be better off with someone else, someone who can love her, hold her, when he can’t. Someone who can be there to support her as she bears the brunt of the curse on her own. It’s not that he doesn’t help, when he can. It’s that he still has his job and his friends, and she has…almost nothing. No career, no home.
He even considers leaving a note to that effect, has considered it before. He knows his friends are there for her, wouldn’t blame her if she found solace with one of them.
It would still hurt. But he wouldn’t blame her.
The old her would probably be angry with him for even thinking of it, but it’s been so long, he doesn’t know if the old her is still there anymore.
He’s being ridiculous. He knows that. They still have video messages and texts and good old fashioned notes, but it’s not the same as being there in person. It’s more like being in a long distance relationship, except she’s always right there, right around the corner, and he can never touch her.
He’s wallowing and he can’t help it. What else is he supposed to do, trapped in the back of the van for two more hours, wearing the oversized sweatshirt that smells like her? There’s not even anything to see out the window, nothing but endless cornfields and darkness.
His fingers flutter around his apple watch, finding comfort in the smooth edges and unnatural warmth, and she must be able to tell something’s wrong, must be able to feel the anxiety quickening his heartrate, because his music stops mid-song and his ears are filled with the sound of her voice. He knows it’s a recording, but he’s relieved in a way he doesn’t know how to express.
Hey, Kihyunie. Her voice is soft, nostalgic. When did she record it? He’d looked in their folder, but there wasn’t anything from today. At least, nothing he could find. I’ve been saving this for a rainy day. I don’t know if it’s actually raining or not, but if it’s not, go ahead and pretend. He didn’t have to close his eyes, it was dark enough without it, but like this he could imagine she was in the seat next to him, whispering into his ear.
I didn’t want to record this. I didn’t want you to know how miserable I was today, but Changkyun said it’s important to share with you when I’m sad, too.
I hate it when he’s right.
Honestly…there’s a sigh, and she pauses. He can almost see her, ruffling her hair. She’s done it since they met, when she’s uncomfortable, or embarrassed. I hate telling you about days like today. It feels like you’ll blame yourself for not being here, even though it’s not your choice.
I went surfing yesterday. We were in San Diego, and it was cold. I went by myself. Did you know no one else likes to go surfing at dawn? You would have loved it. I found three sand dollars on my way back to the hotel.
I looked it up. The Americans say they symbolize hope. I left them, but I shouldn’t have. I could have used them today.
I think I thought too much yesterday. I didn’t want to go surfing this morning. I didn’t want to do much of anything at all. You must have gone to bed early, because your spot was still warm, so instead I stayed under the blankets, pretending you had just left for work. It was cloudy. I told them I was staying in because of the rain, not because I was lonely.
I was lying.
She’s right about one thing. He’s definitely hating himself right now, even though they left California two weeks ago and the moment has long since passed. He pulls his hood up further on his head, cinches it down. He wants to pull something closer, even if it’s just her scent.
It didn’t rain, but Hyungwon brought me breakfast, anyway. He didn’t make me talk to him. I think he’s my new favorite.
Sorry I ate in our bed. I tried not to make a mess. Hope you didn’t notice.
He can’t hold back a watery smile. She’s been almost preternaturally clean since the incident, since they’ve discovered the side effects he has from the curse. She still sheds, her hair caught in the rollers, but she’s always careful to cut them out before nightfall.
She really hasn’t noticed?
I think Changkyun is more stressed about this than we are. He’s definitely a quality time kind of guy, and I don’t think he understands how we’re coping. He’s worried about us. He caught me snooping through your photoshoot pictures earlier and called me out. He’s nosy, but his heart is in the right place. And he wasn’t wrong. I was moping.
I guess if you’re hearing this, we probably owe him a thank you.
I still like your selfies better, by the way. Don’t take it the wrong way, I just have a hard time believing it’s you sometimes.
He can tell she’s striving for something light, trying to tease him, but her heart isn’t in it and it comes out flat. He’s grateful the others are asleep, but he covers his face to hide the tears, anyway.
He really does miss her.
I probably haven’t told you yet, but I started a new project. I’ve been thinking – all that research we’ve been doing on how to break the curse? I think I want to write a drama. It’s weird – it’s not something I ever saw myself doing, but Kihyun, I’m excited. Well, not today. But maybe tomorrow.
And don’t laugh at me. You’re going to sing my OST one day, just you wait and see.
Anyway, I guess I should go. I’m going to save this until you need it, but this is a hug from me to you, on a day when I need one, too.
…I love you.
The message ends. The song picks back up where he left off, only he can’t find it in himself to listen anymore. He doesn’t want to hear anything that’s not her voice.
He doesn’t even know where she stored it to replay it.
I’m sorry, he wants to say. I love you, too, but she has no way of hearing him. Instead, he pulls up the playlist that he hasn’t synced yet, the one that says everything he wishes he could right now, and he spends the rest of the ride listening to it, rubbing his thumb idly across the face of the watch, wishing it were her hand instead.
He’s cycling through the pages uselessly, but he thinks she’ll understand the gesture.
---------------------------------------------------------
You’re still a little antsy after the last hotel, and even though the Do Not Disturb sign is hung on the door this time, you don’t feel comfortable leaving Kihyun alone quite yet.
You’re not really sure how he manages, having to leave you defenseless in the dressing room while he performs, but at least Starship and Epic have good security.
So even though you’d rather get up and go do something, you stay in today. It’s quiet except for Kihyun and the music you’ve put on in the background. The others are excited – they’re finally in Canada – and you have the suite to yourself, not much different than any of the cafes you would have gone to, really. You won’t begrudge them their fun, and you know you’re easing a burden on them, too, by keeping an eye on Kihyun.
Besides, they’d promised to bring back food, and they’d delivered with gusto. You had more cheese covered gravy fries than you knew what to do with. Although, some of that might have more to do with the fact that you’ve been glued to your laptop for the last four hours, reviewing emails and crossing off your list of references.
It feels like you’ve been to a thousand fortune tellers by now, and even the good ones weren’t that helpful. You have more than one notebook filled with dubious advice and somewhat sketchy rituals.
You’re still not sure how a straightforward question like “how do we break the curse” can be difficult to answer, but you’ve tried just about everything except changing your first names at this point, and while you could probably get away with it, you know for a fact that Kihyun could not.
On the other hand, you’ve decided not to sweat too much over that particular one. If anyone was a charlatan, it was that creep. You’re pretty sure he was evaluating you for marriage with his eldest son, a man twice your age who ran the booking agency. That is, if the extra ‘helping hands’ were anything to go by.
You left that one out of your reports to Kihyun. There were some things he just didn’t need to know about, and you’d handled it just fine. But you were a little more cautious about visiting the self-proclaimed fortune tellers in the States, references or no.
The list is running low – there are a few you’ll have to visit when you get back from tour, experts in South Korea who only do in person visitations, and one or two others that haven’t responded to your request for appointments – and you dread having to expand your list again.
You’re already trying to keep a low profile, and asking all of your and Kihyun’s acquaintances for fortune teller references just makes it sound like you’re trying to get married – which you’re not, at the moment. Which isn’t to say that it’s out of the picture, but rather that you have bigger fish to fry; other hurdles to overcome before then.
You’ve got one more email you want to send. Well, actually you have several, but this is one you’re excited about, someone you’ve been trying to track down who seems promising, someone who might be able to make sense out of the rats’ nest of advice you have. And as an added bonus, he takes credit card and he does Zoom readings. That is, if you can get a hold of him. You’ve been trying for a few weeks and have come to the conclusion that he’s either booked solid or is straight up ghosting you, but you're not ready to give in just yet.
A thud pulls you out of your thoughts, and you look down to see Kihyun trying to swerve his way underneath the desk. It looks like he might have misjudged his path, but from what you’ve come to learn his peripheral sensors aren’t that great.
You lean around the desk so you can look at him properly. You’re not really sure what he’s up to, since he’s normally content, or relatively so, to roam around the hotel room. “There’s nothing down there, Kihyun.”
But Kihyun makes his intent clear soon enough, and you can only assume this is your last missive for now, because he’s finally made his way around the leg of the desk to knock straight into your legs, and there’s no way he doesn’t know you’re there.
“Kihyun, I think you missed your calling.” It’s a little endearing, you have to admit. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t understand, because it’s more about the semblance of company than about his ability to respond. “You’re not a cat.”
Although, maybe he doesn’t even need to know what you’re saying, because obviously he’s feeling petulant today, and just like a cat you understand each other, anyway.
---------------------------------------------------------
Never before has he been so intimately acquainted with someone’s feet. Including his own.
It's not like he could even see them, not really. It was more like sonar, an outline rendering the gentle roll of tarsals and ankles.
He'd learned something new since this whole thing started, in any case. He'd never known she'd broken her foot once, but the slight protrusion of extra growth that had gone unnoticed by his human eyes was suddenly the easiest way to tell her apart from anyone else.
Well. That and her feet were almost half the size of anyone else’s he might come across.
Kind of cute, if you were into that sort of thing.
But the point is, he knew exactly what he was doing. And she’s been sitting there forever and he knows she must be working double time after his little almost-getting-stolen fiasco, but she should probably take a break.
Also, he’s really fucking bored. Do you know how much it fucking sucks to be a robot vacuum?
He can’t help it. He’s having one of those days.
He rolls back into her shins.
---------------------------------------------------------
You give in with a groan, scooting back from the desk. The carpet is surprisingly plush underfoot, and you’re impressed with how well Kihyun has been getting around. “Okay, okay, I’m up. What do you want?”
He probably didn’t want to hit both table legs again, if you had to guess, but you can’t help feel a little vindicated. It’s not like you were doing this because it was fun, but the second the thought crosses your mind you wish it hadn’t. He has to know you’re doing this for the both of you, and he’s worried anyway.
You glance at the clock – when did it get so late? You still haven’t eaten the poutine from earlier, and suddenly you’re starving. The bowl is on the table, and it’s probably microwave-safe-ish, so you step over Kihyun to the kitchen, and by the time you’re back he’s managed to work his way free.
You stand in front of him, one hand propped on your hip as you stare down at the Roomba. He’s finally stopped moving, like he was waiting for you. “You have my attention, sir. What are we going to do?” Before you’ve even finished speaking, he’s wheeled back around, making a beeline for the couch and the oversized television.
Of course.
You flip through the channels, trying to find something – anything – worth watching, but your choices are limited. Half of them are in French, and the others are trashy American reality television. You settle on something Canadian, because at least it’s different, and retrieve your food from the microwave.
It doesn’t take long before you’re finished, because you were hungry and cheese covered gravy fries are surprisingly good, but Kihyun has been spinning in place for more than a few minutes now.
You feel better, with food in your stomach. You make yourself comfortable, stretched out on the couch under a blanket, before you pick him up, settling him over the blanket and across your chest.
It’s…a little weird, you can’t lie, but it’s not like he was doing anything important, anyways, and no one is around to see you cuddling with a robot. He’s not even remotely plush like this, but you don’t care. It’s been a long week, and you’ve both earned some quality time, in whatever form it manifests.
You had full intentions to continue being productive after your break, but it’s a significantly better end to a day than you had yesterday. Before you know it, you’ve fallen asleep, lulled by a show you weren’t even watching.
---------------------------------------------------------
It’s not what he had in mind when he set out to distract her, but it worked well enough. He didn't even hate waking up on couch, the warmth from where she'd been still in the blankets, although he has some regrets about having to fish her out of the cushions afterwards.
Mostly, this time he's grateful he has a chance to get dressed, and to pick up her clothes. He likes to take his dignity where he can find it these days.
He’s not sure whether or not it was deliberate on the others’ part, and later on he doesn’t ask. He assumes they decided if no one was hitting the panic button everything was fine, and that he could maybe use some time alone after yesterday, but regardless they don’t come home until a few hours after dark.
Her recording last night had inspired him. He’s still optimistic that they’ll find a way to free themselves, but he also doesn’t know how long this is going to continue, and they’ve been saying ‘soon’, ‘soon’, ‘soon’ for months now, with no end in sight.
It's good for optimism, but not so great for communications, or for either of their mental healths. He thinks he can do something about that.
He left her extra messages before for special occasions, but right now he’s got time to himself and he can be prepared for other scenarios, like she was yesterday. He can’t cover everything, even he can’t outthink fate, but he can certainly start.

Malignatas: Chapter III
A/N: Psh, rushing the storyline whaaat? I haven't been sitting on the end of this one for two weeks or anything.
Malignatas, a KihyunxReader mini-series
Chapter 3: The Hermit
WC: 2.5k
Warnings: mild angst, destruction of personal property
Summary: You and Kihyun thought you knew what you were getting into when you decided to make your relationship public. Neither of you were prepared for a curse from a spiteful fan, cast to keep you apart forever.
[Chapter 1] [Chapter 2]
You’d been dating for more than two years, now, but you were still learning.
In this topsy-turvy, bass-ackwards trainwreck of a long distance relationship of yours, that should have been encouraging. Gratifying, even, that the relationship was still progressing, hadn’t stagnated under inhibited communication and lack of physical touch.
You explored new facets of your personalities. New ways to communicate your feelings and values and needs, new ways to grow as a couple and as individuals. And every day, there was something new to learn.
For example, today you were learning the uppermost most limits of your sanity.
Nine thousand, two hundred thirty-seven.
Nine thousand, two hundred thirty-eight.
Nine thousand, two hundred thirty-nine.
Kihyun was upset.
It was understandable. Relatable, even, because you shared his frustrations.
But the crushing sound of his pulse as his heartrate skyrocketed towards the aerobic zone was giving you second-hand anxiety.
And while in any other context you would have blithely ignored his chosen methods of stress relief, waiting patiently to be able to say ‘I told you so’ when he collapsed from overexertion, equally patient as you supported his recovery, that wasn’t an option here.
Because if you had to count one more step, calculate one more calorie burned, you were going to scream.
Or, at the very least, cut off his music.
---------------------------------------------------------
Lovers. Hierophant. Emperor. Death. Devil.
Each step forward followed by another, pounding the words into the treadmill to the staccato beat in his brain, trying to outrun his thoughts.
Ten months ago. He was supposed to find a girl he’d only seen once. Almost a year, a fleeting confrontation during a date with his girlfriend. His partner.
She’d called the girl a sasaeng. A stalker. Obsessed. He couldn’t quite bring himself to disagree, not after the chaos she’d wrought on their lives, but he knew the girl must be sick, suffering. He couldn’t help but feel the smallest smidgen of empathy.
She’d still been his fan, after all. She had probably been lonely and broken-hearted. She’d acted out of desperation. It was an old argument, one long since put to rest, because they thought it wouldn’t matter.
They never thought they’d see her again.
He can’t remember, not quite, what he’d had for lunch that day. Can’t even really remember what she’d said, that stranger, the girl who’d approached their table in tears, make up ruined, had recalled it in impressions afterwards, when it was clear that her words had held real weight, had held power.
But he remembered her face. It had burned its way into his memory, the way one remembers their own phone number, could bring it to life without thought. He was sure that he could recognize her, but finding her was another story. And finding her in time for the eclipse, scarcely more than a month away? The one day in the next five years there would be a solar eclipse in Seoul?
Kihyun ran faster. Harder. Ran until he couldn’t run anymore.
The towel that came after was welcome. The hand that passed it to him, attached as it was to Minhyuk, was not. But the feeling was mutual, and the reproving glare from Minhyuk, who continued to hover ominously, made it clear his panic-party for one was over.
…Maybe his presence was welcome, after all.
“The comeback show starts this weekend. Why don’t you do everyone a favor and work yourself to death then, hm?” Minhyuk crouched next to him, watching the puddle of ooze that was his bandmate as it attempted to move. “You didn’t even notice you called me. I had to listen to you pocket dial me three times. If it wasn’t for caller ID, I’d have thought I was being stalked.”
He's no good at hiding his amusement, has never been good at it. How Minhyuk manages to find levity in any situation is astonishing, even now.
Kihyun groaned, fumbled at the watch on his wrist, passing it ungraciously over to Minhyuk, who accepted it with a knowing smirk. “It wasn’t me.”
“You guys are so cute when you fight.” Kihyun wanted to protest – we’re not fighting…not yet – and he struggled to sit up, to make his glower less pathetic. It didn’t help.
Minhyuk hauling him to his feet did, arm around his shoulders steadying him, steering him towards the showers, and suddenly the teasing is gone. “Stop thinking about it, we’ll find her. Figure out what you’re going to do when you can see daylight again, instead.”
---------------------------------------------------------
So maybe you were going to be in for a reckoning later. Then again, maybe you’d get lucky and Kihyun would remember that coping with stress wasn’t his strong suit, and he’d forgive you your mild intervention.
Either way, you weren’t very repentant.
Normally it was unnerving to be on your own like this, waiting in oppressive silence, no bearings, no sense of your surroundings at all. Sure, the GPS let you know physically where you were, but not really, didn’t let you know if you were on the counter or between the couch cushions, or if you were stuffed into Minhyuk’s pocket because you deserved it.
Though you could guess, today.
It was Kihyun’s regular heartbeat that grounded you, a soothing sound you’d liked hearing even before the curse, back when you could lay your head against his chest and unwind together.
But today, you wanted the time to think, because Minhyuk had asked you the same question he’d just asked Kihyun, and it was an answer you were afraid to even consider, terrified that the next time could be the last time.
It had taken you months to track down the hermit of a wiseman, the tarot reader who was supposedly available via the internet, but it wasn’t until after Monsta X returned from tour that you were able to pound on his front door, ignoring the small sign posting business hours that were not even remotely close to the timing of your visit.
He was older than you’d expected. And he didn’t know how to work a computer.
The website had been setup by his granddaughter, but she’d left and he was afraid to call and ask her, because of the cards and you had almost strangled him on the spot, but the cards were what you were there for, and he had done nothing to deserve your ire.
You even helped him fix his computer, showed him how to accept credit card payments.
And he’d read your success spread, both yours and Kihyun’s, two separate visits just to be sure, and the cards were the same, the reading identical, and it was almost too much to believe.
You’d tried a lot of different ways to change each other back. Kihyun had reset your time zones more than once, but all it did was confuse you when you were human, and nothing you could do with any holy water or prayer scripts had ever had any effect on him.
It’s not worth mentioning the thing with the chicken, but suffice to say, having your humanity handed to you by something as simple as a celestial alignment sounded too good to be true.
A day without a night. A night without a day.
A solar eclipse. Both of you, human at the same time, if only for a few hours.
And you had to confront her, confront the fan who had cursed you both – If I can’t have him, no one can – that’s what she had said, the words that had stuck ringing in your head for weeks, for months.
But you were going to do it together, and that was supposed to break the curse. Confront the source, break the taboo, and then…get on with your lives.
It was a lot of future to consider, for someone who’d all but given up.
Things could be better. But they could also be worse.
You’d submitted your script, your drama, the one you’d written based off of your research, and you and Kihyun almost had a better relationship now than when you’d been dating in person, forced to communicate more deliberately and thoughtfully, more aware of both yourselves and each other.
You’d made new friends, good friends, travelled the world with Monsta X in a way you’d never thought possible. You’d surfed in California, eaten tacos in Mexico, seen New York and Tokyo and Germany.
In some ways, things were better than before. In a lot of ways, it had liberated you from a life you’d fallen into, given you the chance to truly choose, to explore your passions and desires.
Not that you weren’t looking forward to a return to your normal life, not that you didn’t fantasize about living in your apartment again, or seeing the lights of Seoul at night, or catching sunrise on your way to the beach and eating street food in the wee hours of the morning.
No. It was a lot of future to consider because there was no guarantee you’d find this girl, no guarantee that you wouldn’t waste the eclipse searching in vain and spend the rest of your lives chasing a ghost, hoping for a miracle.
And you couldn’t help thinking about whether or not this would be the last chance you had to be in Kihyun’s arms, to kiss each other like it was the first time, for the last time, even if you knew it was wrong, knew you had to prioritize fixing this, prioritize breaking the curse, so you could spend the rest of your lives to make up for lost time.
You’re certain Kihyun feels the same.
---------------------------------------------------------
Comeback season is a blur.
It always is, a steady stream of performances and appearances and practices, fueled by caffeine and tears and the desire to achieve. It’s enough to take his mind off the curse, off of finding the girl, and he leans on his friends and their resources, because they have more time than he does, and he finally finds the relief he was looking for that day on the treadmill, too exhausted to do anything at the end of the night except shower and collapse, showering optional.
Maybe he should have seen it coming, should have been more prepared.
He wasn’t.
When their eyes lock across a sea of people on the last night of the promotions, when their eyes lock in spite of the stage lighting, in spite of the fact that he’s half blind, squinting into the glare, he knows, and the jolt of recognition freezes his insides.
It’s a struggle to maintain a professional face, to smile and wave at the audience, because they still have another song to sing but he can’t look away, not when she’s right in front of him.
“It’s her.” He whispers, and he doesn’t know if Changkyun hears him or if he just notices something is off, notices that he’s too stiff, because there’s a reassuring pat on his back and he has to say it again for Changkyun to follow his gaze, to see the girl at the edge of the stage, smiling a too-wide smile.
“I see her.” It’s a murmur, too quiet for the mics to pick up, and he does, marks her as a target and spreads the word to the others. The atmosphere onstage shifts, almost imperceptibly, from a relaxed confidence, the comfort of knowing their choreography and their lines, to an elevated intensity easily mistaken as competitive drive.
The eclipse is two weeks away.
They need to be able to find her then, to track her down, and if they have to give her a VIP backstage pass mid-performance to get her name and number, they were willing to do it.
But they don’t get the chance, because she disappears, gone between one verse and the next, and it takes every ounce of self-control Kihyun has to focus on the song, to finish what he came to do and not pelt down the halls in search of her. He knows she’ll be long gone by the time the performance is over.
It gives him hope, at least, that he saw her. That she was still here, in Seoul, hadn’t vanished off the face of the earth, and that’s what sustains him until he and the rest of Monsta X trudge off the stage, awards the furthest thing from their minds.
It’s a tense, uncomfortable silence. Everyone knows she was here, knows she’s gone now, slipped from their grasp when they were at their most incapable. Knows she’s close, that freedom may be just around the corner. It weighs on their minds, presses on their spirits, dampens the adrenaline high.
They can be forgiven for overlooking the door to their dressing room, cracked when it should have been locked. They can be forgiven, because it doesn’t take them long to catch up.
There’s someone in the dressing room who shouldn’t be.
And he almost wishes she really had gone, because she’s here. She’s here, in front of him, in front of all of them, no running mascara this time, maybe shy a few pounds, but still her.
He does wish she had gone, wishes she had really disappeared earlier, because he doesn’t know how she got in but she’s here, and she looks so normal but she’s here, she’s here and she’s holding a hammer, and she has his watch.
His heart drops into his stomach, the slow motion bolt of terror when you drop your phone, but infinitely, painstakingly worse, because it’s not just a watch and he’s lunging for her, trying to stop the girl, the sasaeng– that twisted, heartless bitch who’d turned their lives upside down a year and a half ago – but he can’t, because his friends are holding him fast.
They’d have a hard time explaining aggravated assault over a smart watch, and even if he hates them she’d never forgive them for letting him ruin himself – and he can do nothing but watch as she smiles at him, smiles, like she doesn’t know very well she’s about to commit murder, and then brings the hammer down –
down,
down,
down,
and his life shatters.
He’s ashamed to admit he doesn’t remember much of what happens next. The girl tries to come after him, he knows that much, but he can’t see her, doesn’t have eyes for anything other than the watch that used to be the love of his life. There’s yelling – is that him? There’s so much noise, and it’s still just a watch, so no one will ever know.
Someone – Minhyuk? A painter’s steady hands keep his trembling fingers from dropping the watch, from doing any more damage, if there was even any left to be done. He can’t see, can’t see, there’s nothing on the screen and then Minhyuk does something and even if he can’t read it, there’s a light.
Under the shattered screen, the backlight is glowing.
She’s alive.

Not Friends Anymore
Part 1
Pairing : kihyunXReader
You missed him. you missed your bestfriend alot. His jokes, teasing, healthy flirting, his constant support everything was gone. To forget this sadness you started looking for distractions, making yourself busy in work, hanging out with your best girl friend Naeyon almost every night. you hated clubs but you needed distractions.
you've been friends with him for 7 years now. A strong bond filled with lots of happy moments, laughter and pure joy. Kihyun was the best friend you could ever ask for. Everything was going fine until one day everything changed. He started acting weird, you thought. Meeting everyday turned into meeting few days then after few months, calls and texts almost seemed to have stopped. He started giving you excuses of being busy with work. huh never in his life before he was too busy for you but you had to give him his space.
One night you had too much drinks and couldn't compose yourself
"yah! Y/N you shouldn't be drinking this much, you can't handle it" naeyon said "I'm fine Naeyon. Its just I'm missing him alot today" she scoffed "as if he cared, why do you even mi-" she stopped talking abruptly looking at me with wide eyes until I noticed she wasn't looking at me but behind my back. I turned around to see kihyun with a girl with him dancing together and enjoying the party. 'so this is where he was busy all these days' you thought to yourself.

Not Friends Anymore
Part 2
Pairing : KihyunXReader
Whether it was your anger or the alcohol in your system that kicked in, you stood up from your place and without thinking started heading towards him. Before Naeyon could stop you, there you were reaching for Kihyun's collar and abruptly turning him around towards you with force enough to make him stumble a little bit. His eyes widened at the stranger that pulled him suddenly. "what the-" you cut short his words with a slap that reddened his cheeks immediately. "who the hell are you?" the long forgotten girl scolded you with an angry expression. "who the hell am I? who the heck are you?" you retorted. The patreons ignored your little scene maybe due to their drunken state or the loud music. "woah there. we gotta stop this argument right here, Lets go Y/N" Nayeon pulled you away. Kihyun was so shocked to even talk about what have just happened. "Stop" he muttered, which made you turn and look at him "I want to talk with you " which made him earn a scoff from Naeyon "lets not make a scene bummer, you've hurted my friend alot already. There's nothing to talk about". She took you by hand and you both exited the club without sparing a glance towards the duo.
"what was that oppa?" Irene asked "nothing you should worry about" Kihyun snapped at her.
"Oh my gawwd Y/N. I've never seen you getting that much violent" Naeyon laughed. "I dont want to talk about it, can we just go home Nae Nae" you told her disheartenedly. She shook her head and rest of the ride home was silent, finally you reached your destination. Nayeon parked her car and you two went into your apartment, after freshening up you decided to watch a movie instead of reminiscing the incident that have happened today. But soon you both fell asleep on the sofa.
Kihyun's POV
why did she slapped me out of nowhere. was she drunk? he thought to himself. "what happened oppa?" Irene asked. Snapping out of his thoughts he looked at her while his hand still on steering "It's nothing. can we just drop the topic about what happened back then? I knew this wasnt a good idea" he tsked.
Irene was Kihyun's distant cousin who came here for vacations and she understood how much sad Kihyun was being these days, to distract him she forced him to take her to a club, unbeknownst to her that the little plan of making her cousin happy was going to fail.

family | part six
pairing: kihyunxreader length: 2.2k words genre: fluff summary: Kihyun’s first day alone with his daughter comments: kind of a boring chapter, but they have to occur for the good ones to take place.
other parts
Kihyun
The first rule of playgroup don’t reveal too much about yourself otherwise you won’t hear the last of it. Just remember you’re there for Sumi and if anyone asks you’re married. Kihyun replayed the words in his head, the ones you had told him last night before going to sleep. He could make it through being alone with his daughter for an hour, it’s exactly what he wanted, bonding time with her. “Where should we sit?” Kihyun asks being dragged slightly by his daughter, all the mothers had at least sneaked a glance at him more than once.
“Here.” Sumi sits herself down in between two boys, Kihyun turned his head to the side slightly a little jealous by her actions.
“You must be Sumi’s father, Y/N told me you were coming.” Kihyun quickly turned around to greet the teacher, he hadn’t even realised she was there.
“Ah yes. I’m her husband, Kihyun.” He smiles at the teacher. He was already in the role of playing your husband and you weren’t even here to watch it take place.
“Yes. Your wife doesn’t speak much about you, she usually is focused on helping Sumi learn. Today we’re making music, last week we did sensory skills.” Kihyun nodded his head, it was certainly going to be noisy for the next hour but he didn’t mind. Although things like this usually would, he was doing this to spend time with his daughter.
“We like to keep our lives private.” Otherwise in the years to come if someone knew your personality, they could use it to ruin your whole career.
“That’s fine, we’re about to get started.” The teacher left as Kihyun turned the ring on his finger slightly. The one he had put on just to make this marriage all the more convincing. He had also forced you to do the same, besides it gave him coverage for when he got offered marriage proposals from other companies now. Just mentioning that he had a daughter would make people leave him alone.
Kihyun sat behind Sumi kissing her on the head, she turned around to smile at him brightly. “Your daughter looks like you.” Kihyun looked to his right, smiling at the mother who had given him the compliment. “Y/N never talks about you. Now I know why… she must have wanted to keep her handsome husband hidden away.”
“Ah, thank you.” He smiled warmly at the woman. “What’s your son’s name?” He asks curiously of the boy that Sumi was friends with. It wasn’t like Kihyun could do anything about it.
“Minjoon. Sumi and Minjoon get along well, they usually sit next to each other in playgroup.” Did they now… His daughter couldn’t possibly leave him already for another boy. Jealously was flaring up in Kihyun after years of it not appearing.
“Everyone. Shall we get started? Today we are going to make some music, who would like to choose an instrument first?” The teacher started the lesson and Kihyun’s attention turned to Sumi.
X
“Mr Yoo. You have Y/N waiting on line 2 for you.” Kihyun put his finger to his lips as he carried Sumi in his arms asleep. His secretary quietened down straight away, she quickly moved around her desk to open the door to his office for Kihyun.
“Could you bring in some blankets. It was colder than usual outside.” He didn’t want Sumi to catch a cold on his watch otherwise you would think he was incapable of looking after his daughter. This was a test, Kihyun was sure of it. Whether the client was set up or not.
He carefully placed Sumi down on the sofa and took off his jacket to place over her, Kihyun smiled since Sumi took up only a small part of his jacket. Afterward, he made his way over to the phone to pick up your call. “We’re safely at the company.”
“Thank you.” He heard you sigh on the other end of the line, did you really not put that much faith in him? He was slightly offended then again Kihyun wasn’t sure how he managed the last few hours by himself. “Could you look after her until you finish work. I have a lot of work to do if we’re going to go to Shanghai. I’m also catching up from when she was sick as well.”
“It’s not a problem, what can I do to distract her when she wakes up?” He wasn’t exactly sure how to entertain a 2-year-old or any child for that matter.
“Toys. Books. Only use cartoons as a last resort though. What did you give her for lunch?” Any specific type of toy or book? Or should Kihyun just buy the whole toy store?
“She had pasta, strawberries and blueberries. Does she have a snack usually?” He should really be writing all of this down, but he would remember once he got into the habit of this. Maybe having a newborn baby would be easier, that way he could start from the beginning and raise the baby.
“She likes to drink water, you can give it to her through a straw. Just make sure you’re the one holding the bottle otherwise you’ll have a spillage. For her snack give it to her from mid to late afternoon, it can be fruit or a rice cake or jelly but only give her a few…” You had started to talk too much, which made Kihyun smile silently on the other end. This is what he had missed.
“I got it. We’ll see you later.” Kihyun hangs up and places the phone on his desk. He pressed the button on his phone linking to his secretary’s. “I have a task for the interns. Bring them in here in the next five minutes.” How many interns did the company have? Was it 4? After the presentations had been done? Since the applications were circulating at the moment. “Sumi, sorry. It may get a little noisy in here for a few minutes.” Should he admit to his employee’s that he had a daughter? Or to keep it a secret for now?
“Where have you been?” Hoseok strides into the room a little louder than Kihyun would have liked. He immediately shushed Hoseok as Kihyun pointed to Sumi on the sofa. Kihyun didn’t want Hoseok to meet her but some things you were never able to prevent. “Is this her?” His eyes softened looking down at the toddler.
Kihyun nodded as he sat down behind his desk, “Did you need me for something?” Kihyun asks logging into his computer. His eyes glancing from his screen to Hoseok and Sumi.
“Not particularly. I just didn’t like the idea of sitting alone in my office.” Kihyun nodded as he looked at his emails, narrowing his eyes at a couple of them. He never liked the contents of some of the emails he received, some of them were just spam, other times people had found out his email and were sending complaints or hate. “Who does she look like more?”
“Both of us equally,” Kihyun mutters, he had only thought of that in certain moments. He thought Sumi sometimes looked like him and other times she looked like you. His mind hadn’t completely been made up yet.
A knock on the window made Kihyun lift his head, his eyes immediately setting a glare on to the interns. He stood up from the chair, adjusting his jacket and moved to lean on the front of his desk. Hoseok looked strangely over to him, Kihyun would never talk to the interns unless he was forced to. “I need the four of you to find toys to entertain a 2-year-old. If you do well, it will impact your evaluation in a good way. You each have the limit of spending 500 on the company card. You have 2 hours. You can go now.”
“I’m impressed, you never talk to the interns like that.” Hoseok mutters, he wondered whether Kihyun had changed or he was forced to do that. Kihyun walked back around to his desk, settling down to do some work before Sumi woke up. He knew that you should never stop looking at a child because if you did, they would end up doing something bad.
“Did you bring any work with you? Or have you finished it? Maybe Minhyuk is available to be more company than I am.” Kihyun smiles a little, there was always a hint of Kihyun’s smile being fake. The only times Kihyun had a genuine smile was when he was with you. Now he had Sumi to add to that list.
“I’ll just look at your daughter since this is the only time you’ll probably let me see her.” Kihyun didn’t reply, what he said was true. Hoseok, although he wanted a family, he still acted immaturely in some situations. Kihyun would also like to avoid bringing his daughter to work, she may one day get in the way and annoy him. He hoped he would never get angry to point he could injure Sumi, if that day ever came, he would risk losing you and Sumi. As he looked back on the past, he never wanted to you to leave him again.
A few hours later
“Time to go.” Kihyun picks up Sumi taking her away from Hoseok, she had become attached to him in a matter of two hours. It baffled him really, so he was glad to go home to see you. “Shall we go see eomma? She’ll be waiting for us.”
“Eomma.” Sumi mutters in Kihyun arms, she stares into space holding tightly to a stuffed animal. With a small nudge from Kihyun, Sumi waved goodbye to Hoseok as he left the office. Hoseok smiled and almost looked slightly sad to be leaving her as he got onto the elevator.
“The car is waiting downstairs. The car will also pick you up at 8 in the morning to go to the airport, I will meet you at the airport. Would you like me to go over the schedule for tomorrow?” The secretary holds up her book, with a detailed schedule of the events taking place tomorrow. Kihyun was impressed with her skills, it was everything he wanted out of an assistant. She was well organised, tidy and knew not to disturb him.
“It’s okay, we can go over it on the flight. You’ve worked hard today, we’ll see you tomorrow.” Kihyun smiles at her, Sumi waved a little before she put her focus on Kihyun’s face. “Why are you looking at my face? Is there something wrong?” Sumi moved her fingers to touch Kihyun’s cheek, making him chuckle as the elevator opened up for them.
“Eomma.” Sumi repeated in the next few moments to herself quietly, it looked like she had missed you a lot Kihyun thought to himself. She must have had fun today, right? He didn’t want all of this to be for nothing. Kihyun wanted a permanent role in his daughter’s life even if you started dating someone else. However, there was some part of him hoping you would come back to him.
The elevator opened revealing you waiting there with a smile on your face, Kihyun’s face lightened up, “Sumi, look.” He pointed to you as brought the two of them together. Sumi’s smile came back as soon as she saw you, you took her out of Kihyun’s arms and into yours. It was a relief that couldn’t be explained when you could finally rest peacefully for the rest of the day. For an introvert, it can be explained in terms of when you arrive home after a long day. Or taking a bath to relieve stress.
“Did you miss me?” You ask kissing her on the forehead. Kihyun smiled at the two of you, your eyes move sideways to meet Kihyun’s gaze. “How was playgroup?” The foreboding question that you were reluctant to ask in case it had gone wrong.
“It was fine, everyone believes we’re married. We played with some musical instruments. There should be no rumours going around except for why you’ve kept me hidden for so long.” He smiles a little at his statement but when he looked at you, your eyes were wary of him. It was as if you didn’t want to trust him. He saw it now. Your reluctance towards him. You were stopping yourself from developing feelings again.
“That’s a relief.” You let out a small smile. Not allowing your emotions to fully take over you. “Shall we go home?” Kihyun watches you closely as you whispered those words to Sumi, you kissed her on the forehead and turned around to walk out of the building.
“You don’t look close at all,” Hoseok mutters beside Kihyun, almost jumping a mile, he shuddered.
“What are you doing?! I thought you left.”
“I was leaving until I saw a beautiful woman waiting in the lobby. But now I know who she is…” Hoseok was saddened by finding out your true identity then again he would have just used you for a night or two. “You don’t look close at all.” He says again this time hoping for a response.
“Things are going to change. I know she is still in love with me.” You couldn’t hide your feelings for Kihyun forever.
