All four characters got their VAs announced! I'll post each full image next and then the VAs.

VAs in order, using their japanese names first, dub names second:

Some character notes and episode notes for HZ046, writing them down for future reference.

Start of the second year for Horizons~ New chapter means new opening and ending. Visuals were great for both. Things that stood out to me in the opening were Dot smiling and eating with her friends (which is cute), and Onyx looked especially cool there too (especially in his casual outfit with the jacket). But everything looked great in general.

The episode starts with Liko at her house and recalling the events of the first two chapters and her reunion with her parents. It was really cute how her dad hugged her (he was covered in paint in HZ009 so he didn't hug her because Liko stopped him), and Lucca got to meet Nyarote too. Lucca also pointed out that Liko seemed to have gotten taller. Liko got to catch up with her parents (we didn't get to see them talk though), as she had so much to tell them. It's nice seeing her being able to talk so easily to them.

In the morning, we get to see Liko come downstairs with her Pokemon to get breakfast with her parents. Puppymochi immediately ran up to Nyarote when she entered the room (very cute and important, especially since Nyahoja was jealous back in HZ009 but they eventually got close). Liko and Lucca both leave together to go to school and work respectively (Alex works at home). They go different ways at some point though. It seems like the school Lucca teaches at isn't Orange Academy then? It must be some other school.

Liko meets up with Roy and Dot and they all comment on each other's school uniforms. Dot seemed embarassed about wearing one, but Liko immediately complimented her and told her the uniform looked great on her (it was so cute, and Liko felt so earnest about it, maybe she could see that Dot felt self conscious about it and wanted to reassure her about it). Liko also explained that she kept Terapagos in a separate bag so he wouldn't stand out, so she is carrying two bags at all times now. Roy suggests taking a picture too. Dot initially thinks of it as a pain (she is embarassed by these kinds of things), but Liko wants to take one since they aren't often in uniforms and Dot accepts (she can't say no to Liko!). I like how Dot still has a difficult time with stuff like this, but she is slowly opening up more and more and goes along with her friends (and enjoys herself in the process too). Back in HZ013, Liko and Roy took a picture together when they were having a picnic and sent it to Dot, and now Dot is included in the picture too. Anyway, they all head to Orange Academy afterwards.

At school, they meet with the principal Clavel and the board chair Omodaka. There is lots of talk and information in this part, they talk about the school having a Terastal only curriculum, they give the trio Tera Orbs, they ask them about their motivations to seek Terastal, etc. Liko recognizes the Tera energy things (that are around Paldea) and says she's seen one around her house before (nice detail, really gives a feeling that Liko really grew up in this region and recognizes stuff like that). Nemo is the student council president and she is the one assigned to show the school to the trio. Liko and Roy are happy to see her again, and Dot meets her for the first time. She knew her name and Champion Rank and seemed a bit nervous to talk to her. Nemo wants to keep her promise to Roy and battle him but she is interrupted by Clavel who reminds her that she is there to show Liko and the others around. They meet some members of the Elite Four (Dot knows their names too, she seems knowledgeable about these things). Chili recognizes Liko's uniform and tells her that strong trainers come from Sekiei Academy and makes Liko realize that she is representing her school in a way.

Liko, Roy and Dot eventually have a class with Kihada, the battle studies teacher. She makes them do exercises outside and gives more information to them. The trio will have to take two tests administered by Gym Leaders (basics and implementation), and the Gym Leaders will judge if they are using Terastal correctly and if they are fit to wield a Terastal Orb. There is a rule that students must not Terastal battle others students during the course. They are only to gain experience by battling Gym Leaders (maybe a rule that will be broken by the Explorers?). Liko and Dot had some troubles with the exercises btw, they got tired by them.

They also meet Zinnia (biology teacher, same VA as Yuma from Zexal btw!), the biology teacher. He sends them an app with the curriculum info on it, and basically tells them they'll have homework since they are expected to do reports on wild Pokemon. They are all assigned to a different gym: Liko to Kaede in Cercle Town, Roy to Colza in Bowl Town, and Dot to Nanjamo in Hakkou City. (Just like how Liko's school assigned students their first Pokemon after interviews and judging compatibility in terms of personalities etc, I also like that this arc assigns Gym Leaders in terms of aptitude instead of just letting students do whatever. It means the Gym Leaders the trio will face will be relevant to their development and match them in specific ways.)

Ann also happened to be at school and spots Liko. She is taking the Terastal course too and meets Roy and Dot. She suggests a battle and Liko remembers her battle from HZ001 and feels much more confident about it now. Ann's Mijumaru also evolved, so the battle is Futachimaru vs Nyarote. Some interesting strategies were used (like Liko making use of the yoyo), and Liko eventually won. Ann was frustrated, but had fun and she looks forward to their next battle. Their battle attracted some people, like the Elite Four. Omodaka notes that connecting with other schools will help Orange Academy flourish, and Chili says it could help them find more people for the League too. Nemo showed up and was excited about a battle happening, but she was cut off by the bell and the assembly that had to happen.

Liko, Roy and Dot are given camping equipment for their course (I actually like that they are given material and tools by the school instead of being left on their own). Given that Cercle Town is the closest to Orange Academy, the trio decides that Liko will be the first to take her test. Liko was a bit nervous about the idea of going first but immediately shakes it off and is determined to pass her test. Clavel wishes the students to have a safe travel, when Sango and Onyx make an entrance. They are wearing the uniforms too (and they look really good on them, Sango especially rocks the style). Onyx apologizes for being late and mentions someone sleeping in (which is so funny... I like that we're given more insight in how the Explorers are with these lines), but he realizes he shouldn't be making excuses. Clavel asks their names. Onyx was about to give his real name but comes off with a fake one on the spot ("Onigiri" and "Sandwich"). Dude can't lie and it's so cute and funny. The principal can't find their names on the database, but Sango tells him to look again. Onyx also says that donning the uniform shows his determination to train, and Sango remarks that he is too serious. They argue before being cut off by the principal who tells them to be courteous, or else they'll fail their course. Agate shows up (she is dressed as a teacher, and looks very pretty), and tells Clavel she'll take care of these students and asks them to follow her.

As they leave the school, Liko and the others wonder what the Explorers were doing there (because they recognized them). They mention that they are doing the same thing as them (training for Terastal) and decide to observe for now. I wonder if we'll get to see them interact with Onyx and Sango this arc. Would like for them to become somewhat friends. (I wanna know their stories too and see them reformed by the end.)

We get to see Orio working on the Brave Asagi. Friede shows up too and asks her how long it's going to take. Orio thinks it'll take a while. Everyone gets a message from Liko which says they're leaving for the course (they'll probably keep in touch that way during this arc if they are separated). For now, they're all focused on different things. Murdock seems to be working as a cook (they need money after all), Mollie and Landau are together and watch over the ship's Pokemon, Orio will work on the Brave Asagi and Friede keeps Lucius's belt and the ancient Pokeballs (Oliva, Galar Fire, Lapras). Logical choice since it'd be unpractical for Liko to travel with them and she can't exactly willingly call them out for now (last time they appeared was in HZ032). And Friede probably wants to study things too.

Orio asked Friede if he had something on his mind and he confirmed that he had a lead he wanted to follow (I wonder what??). He leaves the Brave Asagi to Orio. I really like Friede and Orio's interactions and how familiar they are with each other and how much they feel at ease together... Orio really knows Friede and could guess he had something planned, and Friede leaves the ship to her. We know how much the Brave Asagi means to Friede since it allows him to chase his dream, so to think that Orio is part of what makes his dream come true is just Good. They both motivate each other and I love it. Also, I have a feeling that maybe Orio will update the Brage Asagi a bit?? It might not look like the way it did before once she is done repairing it? We'll see once this arc ends, I guess.

Anyway, this episode was written by Dai Sato (the one who handles the series composition and head writer). This was his first episode since HZ033 (the one where Amethio faces Rayquaza and Terapagos transforms in a different form). Lots of exposition and talk setting up info for the arc. Liko was much more confident this episode compared to HZ001 when she was in Sekiei Academy. It's great to see how much she's grown. Dot is also pushing herself to do things out of her comfort zone (she is not thrilled about camping, but she'll try!). I am curious about whatever Friede will be up to that connects to Lucius and the Six Heroes and I hope we get to know soon.

I also wonder which Gym Leaders the trio will face after their initial tests. There are eight Gym Leaders so if Liko, Roy and Dot get to face two of them, that makes six so there'll be two left. I wonder how that'll be handled. (I have initial reservations about the competitive aspect of the arc because that's not my favorite part and I'm not necessarily into game characters, but I'll wait to see how it's handled. I like the idea that Gym Leaders aren't just there to give out badges, but also to test opponents and help them master Terastal etc.)

Jacq's actual name is ZINIA[ジニア]: as in Zinnia. Funny enough the Zinnia in English was name Higana, another name for the Red Spider Lily, which features prominently in the Victory Road of Omega/Alpha Hoenn.

Tyme I mentioned... TAIMU[タイム] as in Thyme.

Raifort's name is REHOORU[レホール] which is a pretty rough Japanese approximation of the French Raifort. It's the French word for horseradish.

Dendra's name is KIHADA[キハダ] from Kihada[黄蘗] the Amur cork tree (Phellodendron amurense), known for its bright yellow coloration. that extends not only to the flowers and leaves but the interior of the bark.

Hassel I've covered before too. His name in Japanese is HASSAKU[ハッサク] from hassaku[八朔], a type of large orange cultivated in Japan.

Salvatore's name is just SEIJI[セイジ] as in the herb, Sage.

Oh wow i thought fore sure Saguaro would've been an English localization choice, but no. His name actually was SAWARO[サワロ] as in the Saguaro cactus.

Miriam's name is MIMOSA[ミモザ ] as in the plant Mimosa, not necessarily the drink. Notable in the genus of mimosa flowers is the touch-me-not.
