Hi Ray! Using the opportunity, I want to say that i adore your performance and love you as an actor. Thank you for your work. As a Ukrainian, Misha means a lot to me, but due to the musical being originally written in 2008, a lot of nuances about Ukraine were written extremely wrong and those are very important to me and all Ukrainian fans I've met. His name is wrong. He is not Mischa Bachinski, but Misha (full name Mykhailo) Bachynskyi.Although spelling may not seem like a big deal, it does matter, especially with his surname. Mischa is incorrect spelling, but not harmful, but Bachinski is a russian spelling and similiar to Kiev, Odessa Chernobyl and "The Ukraine" (as opposed to correct spellings, Kyiv, Odesa, Chornobyl and Ukraine) which are still (for some reason) used in official Broadway script, is a remnant of russification and using russian spellings is very harmful, especially in context of a full-scale invasion happening right now. It's very important to me that you, as one of my favorite Misha actors, know that. Happy late birthday Misha Bachynskyi!💙💛

as a ukrainian-canadian waking up this morning was difficult. i went to sleep knowing we were at an un-rest, and awoke to the news that bombs were falling.

i’ve never been to ukraine, and at this rate, it’s looking like i never will. it’s a plan i’ve had since i was a child, to walk the streets of kiev and lviv and get a taste of who i am beyond a bloody and painful history. beyond rememberance of the holodomor, beyond the canadian internment camps, beyond the ongoing fall-out of the euromaidan. who am i but a living remembrance of a tortured past?

i love ukrainian culture. the food, the dancing, the songs. beautiful embroidery and the touch of a kistka across delicate eggshells to create pysanky, although i never quite had a knack for either. my language is fading, but i hope to take classes in the following years to reunite with it.

i love all these things, but i’ve always believed that visiting ukraine might show me more. that it might give me a taste of what runs in my blood beyond the horrors i’ve been taught since i was a child.

now i may never see my homeland. and i am one of the lucky ones.

i’m not going to pretend this struggle even comes close to those whose homes are being destroyed. who are losing their lives, and suffering the losses of their loved ones. who have to either wait horrified and helpless at home, or with a gun in their hand as russia advances.

it is a pain majority of us will never know, cannot even fathom. and i had to be told today by others around me that “lending help and money was a waste of time and effort, and that ukraine is basically russia anyway.”

i am not russian. i will never be russian. even if ukrainian soil falls into russian hands, it will never truly be theirs. not in our eyes, and not in the world’s.

Because these two days I am busy cleaning just everywhere, every little corner of the house and yard before my dad's birthday.

And today is a very important date not only for me, but for all of us Ukrainians 30 years of our independent country Ukraine.

I have visited few places in this wonderful country, but even those places that I saw take your breath away and you do not believe that this is here in your homeland!

The beautiful Carpathians, the old streets of the city of Lviv, the night beach and Potemkin stairs in Odessa, the famous Gogol's "Evenings near the Dikanka" in Poltava, the terrible disaster on Chornobyl, the chic night Kiev.

I will never cease to be proud of our athletes who almost always take first places at the Olympiads. Great musicians who give concerts outside the borders of our country in a million people, mukants who every year at Eurovision show our country from a new side.

I LOVE YOU UKRAINE 💙💛
