Arthurian Questions
Questions Made by @kieranhiggins
What is your favourite Arthurian book?
What is the worst Arthurian book you’ve ever read?
If gave you an unlimited budget to make an Arthurian book into a movie or TV series, which book would you choose? What would it look like?
Which of the characters is your favourite?
Which character is your least favourite?
Which Arthurian character do you wish writers would feature more?
Which Arthurian time period do you prefer? Sub-Roman Britain or medieval?
Past-Arthur, Arthur-in-the-present-day, or Arthur-in-space?
If you could re-write an Arthurian story, which one would it be? How would it be different?
What Arthurian location (Camelot, Avalon etc.) do you wish was real?
Have you read The Forgotten Sister? What did you think of it?
1. What is your favourite Arthurian book?
The Knightly Tales of Sir Gawain, it has some good enjoyable stories and a lot of notes I find fascinating, which adds so much to the tales.
2. What is the worst Arthurian book you’ve ever read?
The Penwyth Curse, A stereotypical rapy bad romance novel with the man turning out to be Merlin in the end? I think It was weird.. I haven’t read it in like years....
3. If gave you an unlimited budget to make an Arthurian book into a movie or TV series, which book would you choose? What would it look like?
I want Girart d'Amien's Escanor, because it’s an amazing romantic comedy starring Kay and I want to see it modernized a bit dang nabit.
4. Which of the characters is your favourite?
Kay. I like to think of him as the original guy too old for this shit. The first person to call you out and he last person to leave your side.
5. Which character is your least favourite?
Gareth, some times he can be redeemed like in Exciled from Camelot, but he really just seems to me to be someone who was super rude then got pissed off a the consequences to his actions.
6. Which Arthurian character do you wish writers would feature more?
I feel like the world is so ready for a Sir Tor Movie. Basically he is a noble raised by peasants who becomes one of the best jousters and honourable knights.
It seems to me like a lot of writers try to make Arthur, Tor but it doesn’t work so well it just kinda... yeah... make Tor, Tor don’t make Arthur, Tor.
7. Which Arthurian time period do you prefer? Sub-Roman Britain or medieval?
What ever works with the story best. I can be partial to Touries though...
8. Past-Arthur, Arthur-in-the-present-day, or Arthur-in-space?
Yes.
9. If you could re-write an Arthurian story, which one would it be? How would it be different?
The Morte de Arthur, Tristam and Iseult, it really seemed to me while going through Malory’s work that Iseult was originally in love with Palamedes, she tricks Tristam into stopping Palamedes from marrying her cousin, but then drinks the love position and falls for Tristam.
It’s why she goes with Palamedes and why she stops him from being killed, it’s her real love for Palamedes that is fighting with the love potion.
10. What Arthurian location (Camelot, Avalon etc.) do you wish was real?
Definitely Camelot, I would really like to sit a the Round Table.
11. Have you read The Forgotten Sister? What did you think of it?
I have read it and I thought it was wonderful and the writer’s second book was even better. For my further thoughts check out my review and interview with the writer on my podcast :)
I encourage others to fill this out and I will get Sir Blackwood to add his as well.

Arthurian Questions
Questions Made by @kieranhiggins (and @arthurian-mythia is telling everyone to do this, so...)
That is a very difficult question O_o. I don’t have one single favourite. Can I name three? Rosemary Sutcliff’s Sword at Sunset, Adolf Muschg’s Der Rote Ritter and T.H. White’s The Once and Future King. Yes, it’s cheating.
2. What is the worst Arthurian book you’ve ever read?
Rosalind Miles’s Guinevere, Queen of the Summer Country. It’s trite, absurd, extremely silly and *even worse* than Mists of Avalon. Worst spent 5 euros in a second-hand bookshop ever.
3. If I gave you an unlimited budget to make an Arthurian book into a movie or TV series, which book would you choose? What would it look like?
Heh. How about a TV series based on Bernard Cornwell’s Warlord Chronicles? In terms of visuals I guess it would look kind of like Starz’ Camelot. But the plot would be so much better!
4. Which of the characters is your favourite?
GAWAIN. (Surprise!)
5. Which character is your least favourite?
Gosh. Um. Sir Bors? Well, except in Kaamelott, but since that’s not a book... Except if you consider the comics... I also don’t like Pellinore and Lamorak - but I really enjoy writing Pellinore in my comic, so I am torn on the subject.
6. Which Arthurian character do you wish writers would feature more?
Lady Ragnell :). Also Orgueilleuse/Orgeluse (Kundrie in Wagner’s Parsifal).
7. Which Arthurian time period do you prefer? Sub-Roman Britain or medieval?
I dearly love the medieval style and settings, but... I think I prefer post-Roman Britain because there, Arthur is actually *possible*. We know very well he wasn’t a medieval ruler, because we know who the medieval kings of England were :/.
8. Past-Arthur, Arthur-in-the-present-day, or Arthur-in-space?
ALL of the above. I suppose my favourite is actually Past Arthur (because I am a history geek), but one of the things that makes Arthur special to me is that he fits just fine in all the other contexts too. King of Space and Time. Absolutely.
9. If you could re-write an Arthurian story, which one would it be? How would it be different?
Easy peasy: I’d have a more Gawain-friendly version of Malory’s Morte Darthur. Seriously, the damage for which that man is responsible... Also, does anyone really believe Arthur would drown a ship full of babies?! Sheesh Tom, stop fawning over those French sources.
10. What Arthurian location (Camelot, Avalon etc.) do you wish was real?
Camelot. Naturally.
11. Have you read The Forgotten Sister? What did you think of it?
No, sorry. I confess to being a little put off by “fans of Mists of Avalon will love this book”, but maybe that’s unjustified?

11 Questions Tag
Tagged by @anassarhenisch because my name starts with K now so thanks :)
Rules: always post the rules, answer the questions given to you, write 11 questions of your own, tag 11 people
1. If you could learn any language fluently, which would you choose? Why?
Either French or German because I had lessons in both at different times in my life. Probably French if I’d have to choose since there’s so many different places in the world that speak it.
2. What’s your favourite type of setting? (Gothic castle, medieval city, floating islands, dystopian future, etc.)
I like fantasies that take place on islands or ships.
3. What’s your favourite extinct animal?
Hmmm: Parapuzosia seppenradensis - it was a massive ammonite. RIP you were a badass.
4. You wake up with a magical talent. What is it?
The ability to finish what I start and to do the opposite of multitasking. :P
5. What’s the last book(s) you bought?
The Good House by Tananarive Due
6. How many books are on your floor right now?
Um... One stack of books - the bottom one being Les Dîners de Gala by Salvador Dali it’s a kind of surrealist cookbook, Another stack has the Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu at the bottom and... The Girl with all the Gifts by M.R. Carey is under my bed somewhere for about a month and I haven’t bothered to fish it out because I don’t know why. So three!
7. If you could redesign a book cover, which would you choose?
I’m going to go with Wolfwinter - I don’t know what it’s about but I feel really sorry for the naked woman wandering around a snowy field. I’d put clothes on her so she doesn’t freeze to death. Maybe give the satyr a scarf and woolly sweater too.
8. What book should be illustrated but isn’t?
The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle
9. How many books do you read a week, on average?
I wanna say like 3 or 4?
10. What are you listening to right now?
A torrential downpour of rain and my neighbor’s dog.
11. What’s your favourite fictional weapon?
I don’t know about fictional, but my favorite weapon would have to be Chakram... so lets go with magical chakrams.
My Questions:
1. What genre/type of book do you typically avoid? What would change your mind about it?
2. How often do you use public libraries?
3. Would you rather read a completed series or one that’s currently ongoing?
4. Pretend you were starting a Little Free Library (or something similar) and you have duplicates of all the books you own, which four books would you choose for your community?
5. What book would you recommend to one of your favorite authors?
6. If you had to write an essay about any book, which would you choose and why?
7. What is/was your parent or guardian’s favorite book? Have you read it? Do you like it too?
8. If you’re bored and have a pen in hand do you write, doodle, or something else?
9. Do you prefer slow or fast paced books?
10. If two of your favorite authors were forced to co-write a book or series what would it look like?
11. What if you were given the opportunity to rewrite a book (that you liked or didn’t like) and ‘fix it’ how would your version differ from the original? And what book would you choose to fix up?
People who are tagged (obligatory if you don’t want to/already did it don’t do it): @psychosynchrony, @screamingatanemptyroom, @everlyreads, @readingthegenjiinkolkata, @c-foley, @caffeinewitchcraft, @kieranhiggins @blackgirlslit @mybookishwandering @baldursgatekeeper and you!

Arthurian Questions
1. What is your favourite Arthurian book?
This is such an unfair question - have you seen how many Arthurian books there are? There’s also millions of non-fiction ones too. I can barely do a top ten, but I think may favourites are The Bernard Cornwell Warlord Chronicles, Idylls of a Queen by Phyllis Ann Karr and Once and Future King by T.H.White and for fun I’ll throw in King Arthur’s Enchantresses: Morgan and her sisters in Arthurian Tradition by Carolyne Larrington (a non-fiction)
2. What is the worst Arthurian book you’ve ever read?
Until recently it was M.K. Hume’s King Arthur trilogy, but that has now been completely blown out of the water by a book called Ambrosius Aureliania (Arthurian Tales) by Leon Mintz. There is nothing to recommend in this book, poorly put together plot, non-existent characterisation, my kids can write better dialogue. And I can’t forget - cantaloupe breasts
3. If gave you an unlimited budget to make an Arthurian book into a movie or TV series, which book would you choose? What would it look like?
Some would be really hard, but I’d like to see the Warlord Chronicles, and it would probably look a lot like The Last Kingdom series!
4. Which of the characters is your favourite?
*weeps* This is so hard!
Probably Morgana, or Viviane, maybe Merlin, but yeah - Mischievous Morgan
5. Which character is your least favourite?
Lancelot - he reminds me of the kind of guy who wants all the cake and eats it too.
6. Which Arthurian character do you wish writers would feature more?
I wish the writers would look at some of the older stuff - like the love story between Viviane and Merlin in the Vulgate (where he’s not a creeper or she’s not portrayed as evil) its a weird relationship but it does work for them. So Viviane, but not where she’s either malevolent or without agency (same goes for Morgan)
7. Which Arthurian time period do you prefer? Sub-Roman Britain or medieval?
Probably medieval - but not fussed
8. Past-Arthur, Arthur-in-the-present-day, or Arthur-in-space?
either - can I take the opportunity to rec Airships in Camelot (excellent steampunk??)
9. If you could re-write an Arthurian story, which one would it be? How would it be different?
Mists of Avalon, but I’d make it less rapey, less incesty, less christian v’s pagan, give Guinevere some agency and backbone - less everything problematic and more feminist basically (most of the female relationships are awful in this book!)
10. What Arthurian location (Camelot, Avalon etc.) do you wish was real?
Maybe Morgan’s Valley of no Return for cheating men? Or just the forests where all the “marvels” happen! Be nice to go visit Camelot though
11. Have you read The Forgotten Sister? What did you think of it?
I have! and I really enjoyed it!

arthurian questions
I was tagged by @kieranhiggins! Merci bcp, friend! <3
What is your favourite Arthurian book?
oh, dear... I’ve read hundreds of arthurian books and it’s hard to name a favourite, but I personally love Winter Prince (Elizabeth Wein) and The Pendragon (Catherine Christian). The Pendragon is narrated by Bedivere and it’s well paced and beautifully written. It’s different and fresh (more historical than magical), but I love how faithfully arthurian its core remains.
I also adore The Mists of Avalon...I know a lot of people don’t like it, especially because of how MZB portrays Guinevere (and the ‘victimization’ of Morgaine), but I love many aspects of it; the religion, the richness and the texture of its vocabulary, the dialogue...We see the legends from an entirely untraditional perspective. Magic, history, religion, desire and Orphic stories all swirl into a massive, rich narrative steeped in violence and romance, and I love it. I love Morgaine and I love Arthur, and many scenes touch me deeply no matter how many times I read it.
Also, T.H White’s The Once and Future King (classic), and the Road to Avalon; I love the Arthur/Morgan aspect of it, and, strangely, the lack of magic appeals to me. Wolf provides readers with an enthralling and imaginative piece of literature, saturated by the love between Morgan and Arthur and the difficulties they face, all built upon the core legends of King Arthur, and I love every page of it. Okay, there are some things that I don’t like about it, but you know...
What is the worst Arthurian book you’ve ever read?
Nancy Mckenzie’s Queen of Camelot. I ! hate ! this ! book! It’s shallow and silly, lacking in both imagination and narrative thrust.
If gave you an unlimited budget to make an Arthurian book into a movie or TV series, which book would you choose? What would it look like?
well, I would be the happiest girl in the world because no arthurian film or series has ever completely satisfied me...
First of all, I would choose to make a tv series and not a film because when you are making a movie, time’s limited, and I firmly believe that to be able to properly and throroughly explore and present the legend(s) of King Arthur, you need more than an hour and half (or two. or even three.)
I wouldn’t choose just one book. I would mix various aspects of the legend and attempt to delve deeply into their core to make a faithfully arthurian series. I loathe the beautification and simplification of the legend (and the lack of most elements of it) in Merlin BBC. I dislike how rushed and simple Camelot’s (STARZ) retelling feels. I think I would want to make a compelling, deeply arthurian series, with a strong, interesting narrative and multidimensional characters, illustrating the many themes, characters and events of the legends.
They were dark, brutal, violent times, and my show would reflect that while also respecting key arthuriana elements. There would also be incest because I’m Arthur/Morgan trash...(I like Morgause, but I’d have Morgan be Mordred’s mother. Isn’t it the modern trend, anyway?) My ideal show would be brimming with magic, blood, violence, mythic characters and epic scenes.
Now, if i had to choose just one book to base my show on, then I’d choose The Mists of Avalon. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dramatized in my head the scene where Morgaine steals the scabbard and Arthur hunts her down while she flees, especially the part where she is hiding in the woods with the little people and Arthur is yelling her name. It would be epic.
Which of the characters is your favourite?
If I have to only name ONE, then Morgan. But I adore Arthur, Mordred, Gawain and Viviane.
Which character is your least favourite?
Sir Lancelot du Lac...
Which Arthurian character do you wish writers would feature more?
Kay, Bedivere and Elaine of Astolat.
Which Arthurian time period do you prefer? Sub-Roman Britain or medieval?
Definitely medieval! I don’t even care if it’s not historically correct, I love the darkness and brutality of those times. I love the violence, the magic, the fairies and creatures. But, to be honest, I also love sub-Roman Britain; I don’t really mind the setting. I can be quite partial to the Dark Ages though...
Past-Arthur, Arthur-in-the-present-day, or Arthur-in-space?
Past-Arthur, hands down... Arthur in space sounds terrible.
If you could re-write an Arthurian story, which one would it be? How would it be different?
The Road To Avalon. As much as I love it, its ending feels abrupt and rushed. I would probably have Morgan take a lover or two for extra drama; probably Kay...(Don’t judge me, I love him.) I would make it longer, and tone down the melodrama in certain scenes.
What Arthurian location (Camelot, Avalon etc.) do you wish was real?
Avalon.
Have you read The Forgotten Sister? What did you think of it?
I haven’t yet, but I am certainly going to!
my questions:
What is your favourite arthurian film and/or series and why?
least favorite arthurian film and tv show?
favorite pre-raphaelite painting?
if you could have any writer in the world (both alive and dead) pen an arthurian book, who would it be?
has arthuriana affected your life in any way? (work, studies, spending a lot of money on books etc. For example, I am currently working on my MA thesis which is about Arthuriana in theatre)
by the way; have you ever read or seen any arthurian play? do you have any recommendations?
State an unpopular opinion
What’s the most obscure arthurian book you’ve ever read?
What are your favorite events and/or aspects of the legends? (pulling sword from stone, Badon, Camlann etc)
your favorite Knight?

Sentence Tag Thingy
Tagged into this by @kieranhiggins
THE RULE: Post the last sentence you wrote from anything and tag as many people as there are words in the sentence.
The Hyoid bone is not a sesamoid bone but the patella and pisiform are.
Which is not really anything particularly entertaining... so maybe a line from a review I’m doing for The Moon is a Harsh Mistress might be more apt and bookish:
The AI was one of the more charming bits of this book.
And that’s twelve people sooo if you want me to tag you, just say you were tagged by me. If you like this post, you’re tagged. :P

This is my Tutorial for the Quests just to try and help the players see their Options.
Here is a quick Summary of the Fight Card the Card you will use for 90% of Quest and tasks.
There are Black Cards which get in the way of each quest, I am not going into too much detail about them here they will pop up.
There are Group Quests and Single Knight Quests, Group Quests you can leave and come back to, Single Knight Quest you cannot.
@kieranhiggins @vkmspouge @lucrezianoin @snarkytroodon @libris46 @queeringcamelot
Please let me know if anyone has any questions.
Here is the Book of Quests if you want to know more.
This is a Quest for a Single Knight. You need 4 Fight Cards for this Quest. You need 2 Pairs but not 4 of a kind.
You can see the Numbers at the top of the card. You can place a card each turn.
The Black Knight fills up his attack with black cards, when you or the black knight get to 4 you turn your cards over and the highest amount wins.
This is a Quest for a Single Knight, You need fight cards, 3 of one Kind and two of another, but not 5 of a kind.
Number is at the top of the card so you know what you are playing. Lancelot gets black cards.
As soon as either the Knight fighting Lancelot or Lancelot reaches 5 cards on the board both sides are turned over and counted. Highest Wins.
After That Lancelot’s Quest goes away and you can then fight the dragon.
This is a Group Quest so a bunch of Knights can work at it together. Basically go discard white cards face down until you get the sword from the Lady of the Lake.
Group Quest, a Bunch of Knights can work together, get 7 Grail cards on the board and you get the grail and you win.
This is a Group Quest. Basically lay down cards 1 to 5 in order, if you do so before black cards fill up the spaces on the board for the enemy warriors you are fighting, you win.
There are 4 places for each War.
This Group Quest is Fighting Siege Engines, Basically put down as many fight cards as you like, I will roll an 8 sided dice, if the number on the dice is lower than the card, a siege engine goes away.
If the number on the dice is higher than the cards you play, you loose a life point.
