Hello Camp Kindle 😍 The kids are so excited to go to camp this summer. Last year was their first experience at Camp Kindle and they both absolutely loved it. ⠀ ⠀ This camp is so special and so unique. All of the kids that attend either have been diagnosed with cancer or have a parent diagnosed. These kids can set aside their worries for a week of fun and laughter with children in similar circumstances. They experience swimming, ropes courses, arts and crafts, climbing wall, games, campfires and so much more! There is such a sense of community and the comfort of a place to belong.. and my favourite part for the kids is the new friendships and developing of their self-confidence.⠀ ⠀ Biggest hugs and thank you to those that donate and contribute to keeping this amazing camp alive!! ⠀ #seeyaonfriday #mybabies #missthemalready #theyaresoexcited #campkindle #bestcampever #ovariancancer #ovariancancercanada @kidscancercare (at Camp Kindle) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0yveBBAmxQ/?igshid=1jlz5qx6oc55l

That ready stance. Mercury Retrograde is here . Captured by @GeorgePimentel1 at a Cancer fundraiser and auction, in support of @kidscancercare . Several folks were caught off guard with wet eyes during speeches and presentations, in particular - by a young girl's tenacity and sweet hearted view of life, after light heartedly telling how she lost her leg to Cancer, while now still pursuing her loves in dance and gymnastics. She even threw in a couple handstands on stage with her younger Sister, leaving many of us inspired and moved. Things rounded off as I overheard someone say “I’m tired, I’m a Mother...Watching that girl though...I have no excuse.” . Thank you to @pogopjparty @hendrixroe @rachel_olsonn @facesbymicah @amaleaa_xo @donnadolphyhair @sindysuntan @marklashjewelry for pulling this together (at Church on Berkley)

Bike wheels and angel wings..
Hi all!
It has been quite sometime since my last post at the end of the 2013 Sears National Kids Cancer Ride and wow now we are in the midst of training again my dad and I.
So since riding in 2013 there has been some amazing things and some not so amazing things on my journey that have lead me to be so content with my life right now.  Not long after returning from the ride in September 2013, Little Tay, my best friend and pseudo sister was given a terminal diagnosis; “her transplant didn’t work” the docs said and they gave her 6 months, well that turned into 6 weeks and she passed away on December 23rd, 2013, two days shy of her favorite holiday.  That brought a whole new meaning to my life as Tay told me in one of our last conversations “always love what you do, and please fall head over heels in love one day okay?”- those words came out of a very wise 20 year olds mouth.
I would say I had a bit of a downward spiral after this; I didn’t want to ride my bike and I didn’t want to participate in this beautiful thing called “life”. I just missed her too much.  It wasn’t until that summer on the 2014 Tour For Kids Alberta on this beastly decent into Sask River Crossing zipping by the smokey burning forest that I remembered what Little Tay had told me on the 22nd of December (one day before she passed), and then I decided I needed to get my head out of my ass.  From them on I made a commitment to myself; to live my life fully.  To me this meant finding a job I adored (not that I didn’t love working at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre but it wasn't “it” for me), to commit to a lifelong love for fitness, and to find who Taylor Wheatley really is so maybe on day I can fall in love like she asked (still working on this one).  This was when I really started working hard with my trainer Chris (he is one amazing person and friend) to get into really good shape, started watching what I was eating and FINALLY taking some time for me.
In finding the calm in my chaos, I found Unit 57.  Now let me tell you a little something, this came not long after Taylor’s 1 year anniversary and for those of you who don’t know why this is of no coincidence, this is where Little Tay had her bone marrow transplant.  Yes, I am now a nurse taking care of people like her. Taking care of these amazing patients who have no choice but to trust us with their lives, and to my patients, I say THANK YOU! You have helped me fulfill Taylor’s wish, to always love what I do.  I was given a position on this unit one day when I was standing in the doorway of room 88- this is the room where Tay spent her last days.  It was all the kick in the butt I needed from my little guardian angel, and thank goodness for her!
** with permission from Doug I tell the following story**
This leads us to today’s training ride.  I was clipping along with mum and we passed this man on a hill, and we were turning off the highway onto a less busy street when I see this man hammering to catch us.  I thought “oh Taylor you have lost something” which would not be a surprise as I lose everything.  Anyways, me being me, I introduce myself and he says “oh you know me, I’m Doug”.  I am pedaling and wracking my brain  because I know this man, I know that kind face, and my heart swelled, he said “Bird, I am Karen Bird’s husband”. Karen was one of my patients when I was still at the Tom Baker, and then was one of my first inpatient when I started working on the ward, and her and Doug are just one spectacular couple.  We of course instantly bonded over cycling! These two were the first people to donate too my ride for the 2015 Sears National Kids Cancer Ride.  Doug told me that Karen passed away three weeks ago on July 3rd.
I cannot tell you how many tears came down my face then and now as I sit here wighting this.  She was SUCH a cycling enthusiast and SUCH an amazingly kind hearted woman whos laughter would always make me laugh along.  And a woman who always seemed to captivate me with her stories of cycling around the world.  Well today Karen, all I can say is thank you for making mom and I take a different rout today so we would run into Doug!

Words of wisdom from my favorite author
“I’ve learned that everything happens for a reason,” the yogi Krishnan told him. “Every event has a why and all adversity teaches us a lesson... Never regret your past. Accept it as the teacher that it is.” ― Robin S. Sharma, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari

The Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta (KCCFA) is a non-profit community-based charity. We are parents of kids with cancer, kids with cancer, survivors of childhood cancer, bereaved families, volunteers, health-care professionals and supporters dedicated to improving the lives of children with cancer. We support their psychosocial and medical treatment and fund research that will increase survival rates.
so I know there are thousands of posts like this on tumblr but i may as well give it a shot anyways.
My friend Sophie and I are raising money for Shave A Lid For A Kid at our school, and it would be absolutely amazing if you could donate anything at all.  Even a dollar would support the cause and would be greatly appreciated.
Info is all on the website, so if you're curious, check it out, but basically what the KCC does is raises money that goes towards summer camps, research, hospital and scholarship programs for kids and teenagers who are battling cancer.
