Today was your and Gavi’s first year anniversary.

To celebrate such an important day, he had made a reservation at your favorite restaurant! It had been going beautifully. You guys ate, paid, and then left. Now, to end it off, the two of you walked the sidewalks of Barcelona, watching as the sunset slowly turned to dusk. Favorite pastime.

And of course, you knew that to even want to do such a thing, it’d have to have its cons. That being your boyfriend getting recognized. You look over at him before making your way to a nearby bench.

You never minded. Gavi had told you this would happen, even if it wasn’t exactly what he wanted.

Going on your phone, you’re startled at the sight of shoes entering your vision, making you furrow your eyebrows and lift your head. The crease in your brows only deepens when you see that it is not, in fact, Gavi, though you could already tell.

“Hi,” the man started with a smile. “I just wanted to tell you that you’re beautiful, and…” And. And?

You let out an awkward laugh. “Oh! Well, thank—”

“Could I get your number? If that’s fine with you.”

Gavi’s ears perked up at that. He was away from you, but not that far. His expression hardens, and as soon as he’s done taking the last photo, he bids them goodbye and makes his way to you.

Catching sight of him, you relax. “My boyfriend’s actually right there.” You motion behind the man.

The recognition that flickers across his features is unmistakable, and you wonder if you should have even said it. But what other choice did you have?

“Oh, wow,” he drawls, taking a step back and shooting Gavi a nod, making his eyes narrow. “It’s cool. Just wanted to, you know, ask. Well, bye.”

Once he leaves, you take the now extended man's hand and rise to your feet. An apology is already at the tip of your tongue; however, he beats you to it. “It looked like he was trying to flirt with you.”

With your hand still in his, you interlock your fingers together and hum. “Unfortunately. Listen, I didn’t mean to out us. He was asking for—”

Before you even have the chance to finish, he’s gently pulling you into him and placing a kiss on your crown. “I don’t want to hide it anymore.”

Your eyes widen at that alone. “Are you serious?”

“I’m serious. I just hate having to watch you walk alone while I sign stuff and take pictures. And that was just—it was unexpected, and I didn’t like it.”

“Me neither,” you mumbled with a growing smile. “You know, I didn’t take you for the jealous type.”

He scoffs. “I wasn’t jealous! I just found it weird.”

As a soft laugh leaves your lips, your boyfriend rolls his eyes in feigned annoyance. “I’m not really seeing what’s funny.” A short pause. “What do you think? We can take it slow, little by little.”

“Whatever you want. We can just let people see us. We’ll look our best, there’ll be pictures, and we can see if there are any good ones of us together that we can frame and hang in our house.”

Gavi chuckles at the recommendation. “Got it.”

While you begin to walk, your interlocked hands swing together as you excitedly list off more ideas on how to share the news with everyone. Unbeknownst to both of you, some of the people from earlier had snapped a few candid photos and posted them online. Neither of you really minded; in fact, it made things a whole lot easier.

Flashback: Love Lies - Khalid & Normani

17th April 2023.

Miley is still holding down the #1 spot, so we’ll flashback five years to 2018 when Lil Dicky held the top spot with ‘Freaky Friday’. I’ve sorta, kinda already covered that one (although not really since that song’s guest star is persona non grata around these parts). Instead we’ll look at the #2 spot which was held by Khalid and Normani.

‘Love Lies’ was written for the film Love Simon which I have not seen. From what I know of the movie though I don’t quite see how this song ‘fits’ it? It’s a very silky, sexy song, and the movie about a teen coming out seems like it isn’t the right match for this particular song... although, as mentioned I haven’t seen the movie, so what do I know.

I really like the song though and it’s a shame that it never made it to the #1 spot. In my opinion it’s certainly remembered much better than ‘Freaky Friday’ and still gets regular airplay here, so that’s a win, I guess.

Also, what’s going on with these comments on YouTube for the ‘Love Lies’ video?

Haha! This person apparently had a very eventful day when ‘Love Lies’ was released (quitting drugs, leaving an abusive relationship, and giving birth!!!). Guess I need to check out Crimson Clover’s ‘Learning to Love Myself’.
