Cataclysm Session 36: The Halfway Disaster

The write-up, as promised, of @dndhomebrewandart ‘s campaign.

The Session

We said our farewells to Milo and his devil parents/siblings and stepped back into the time stream to take a break, but it was not to be. Espy’s realm was in shambles, under attack by Talis and her ilk. Who had sold us out? None other than Rory’s little sister, Allegra. 

We sat there, motionless and unable to do anything thanks to Talis’s dominion powers, as Allegra sobbed and watched. Rory was released as part of the agreement Allegra had made, but Talis turned her eyes on the rest of us. She raised her hands to destroy us, starting with Elena, but Khalia disrupted the bolt of energy that would have killed her. And we were helpless to do nothing but watch as Khalia and Seth (disguised as Santigue) defied Khalia for the sake of Elena. Finally, her concentration was broken and we were able to run for the lake house.

Espy’s ghost ran alongside us, telling us that the others were there and Elena could activate the well with her leyline power. There wasn’t much time to do anything but run.

When we got to the lakehouse, the rebels that remained were facing Santigue, and Elena felt the pact she had with Seth forcibly, painfully, snap. Words were had with Santigue, between Elena and Nina, and despite Nina’s efforts to take him in the Soulcatcher, she was unable to do so. He let us go, for his daughter, Ophelia’s sake, saying he had never thought he would see her again.

We all clambered into the lakehouse after watching Persephone be smashed into Rory’s workshop by Demi. Elena, almost in a trance, drew out Seth’s key and stabbed herself with it, and as her blood spilled, the time well was activated. Everyone was enveloped in the light of Elena’s leyline, and then there was blackness.

Elena woke to the sound of Khalia’s voice. Rory woke to the sound of Sain’s. There was some hilarity and confusion as we tried to parse together how our dead mother’s were alive, and here, but eventually it came to light that we were in Melliore in the recent past - so recent, in fact, that Khalia was very pregnant with Elena.

We were able to find that the other rebels had been shunted into a pocket dimension that was now Elena’s (sort of like Espy’s realm or Seth’s plane), and we formulated a plan to anchor the well to the inverted pyramid we knew lay in the desert to the north. We set our sights on planning that, and trying to determine what to do with Allegra, whom Rory had dragged along.

Session end.

This marked the halfway point of the campaign!

So far, my POK characters have been:

Khalia, a Toreador who seems level-headed and sensible at all times until she goes off on a date with Qui and oops, turns out she's a bit of a thrill seeker when off the clock. Also tried to beat up a Lasombra and got her ass kicked, and chopped off an Archon's head because fuck you 💜

V, a Malkavian with an imaginary friend called Johnny who hung out with Jordan and her cult, and then said 'fuck you Johnny' to get their powers back. Except not really because I'm gonna do another run where she keeps Johnny to see the differences before I decide which one fits better.

Abigail, a Nosferatu with a rat called Reggie who she loves very dearly even as he wages war against her faithful servant for not feeding him cheese. Drove a fucking car at the Lasombra that kicked Khalia's ass and staked another one in a church with Lucca.

And Silas, a Toreador and Corliss Simp who will stop at nothing to see her as Prince, and destroy anyone who'd oppose her. Made a spectacle of Khashif's destruction, murdered multiple Kindred, and is down to murder a few more in Corliss' name. Complete fan behaviour.

if Silas and Khalia were siblings, they probably wouldn’t get along at all because Silas is the #1 Corliss stan and Khalia only bothers to disguise her disdain for Corliss because its practical to do so, and while Silas wants to help secure Corliss’ place at the top of the food chain, Khalia is actively working to find Prince Arundel and remove her from the board altogether. Silas would have front row seats to Corliss’ ascension only for Khalia to walk in with Arundel and oops now he’s trying to kill them both because HOW DARE YOU

I think I have my Parliament of Knives character :o

Her name is Khalia Lais, a Toreador; she was an artist in life and is a staunch loyalist of the Camarilla in death. Her ghoul, Gerard, was part of a crime syndicate before entering her service, and she really just wants to keep things from going to shit.

Okay, I think I'm gonna stick with Qui's romance as canon for Khalia, while still working in some aspects of Jordan's route because I love Khalia and Jordan being besties 😌

Cue post-game movie night at Jordan's. Khalia invites Qui along, and Jordan decides 'hey let's invite Lucca too!' Arundel finds out and invites himself and Ward. Meanwhile Lucca invites Kashif because 'you're friends with Khalia, it'll be fine, besides she owes you for saving her life' and so Kashif invites Ophelia. Gerard comes along too because Khalia insists that he deserves the night off after everything that's happened.

Khalia only pays attention to the horror movie, otherwise she and Qui are preoccupied with cuddling and pda. Unless it's an action/cop drama of some sort, in which case Qui will be criticising the shit out of it and saying 'that's not how that would play out in real life.' Gerard often agrees with him and criticises the movie criminals for being inefficient idiots. Suddenly everyone remembers that this man was a soldier in a criminal syndicate once upon a time.

Ophelia correctly predicts the plottwist everytime to the point that everyone knows she's spoiling it on purpose. Jordan spoils it on accident because he gets caught up in the input from his visions and doesn't realise that they've not reached that point in the movie. Only one of them is apologetic and its not Ophelia.

Lucca is either praising or dunking on every single film, from the cinematography to the costuming choices. She had a ten minute rant over how a particular style of dress straight up didn't exist for over a century after the period setting of the movie.

Kashif doesn't care for any film that defaults to Islamaphobia, and neither does Khalia. The moment it happens, they both lose all investment and everyone usually agrees to move on to the next movie. He has a lot more to say on the spy movies and that the assassins are stupid for letting themselves get spotted. They should have just gone for the kill instead of standing there like an idiot.

Arundel knows way too much about brains when the horror movies are on and everyone else silently agrees to never watch the Brain That Wouldn't Die with him. Lucca owes Ward ten bucks for shutting Arundel up with a makeout session.
