I'm watching through The Boys, and I find The Deep's storyline to be both dazzling and baffling. The "tone" of his story is incomprehensible to discern.

He's a complete and utter scumbag. He truly cares about animals. He's deeply incompetent. He is a champion of environmentalism. He's a sexual predator. He's a sexual victim. He's treated as a fundamentally stupid comic relief. He's undergoing an emotional arc that is coded as sympathetic and relatable. He's an irredeemable misogynist. Part of his character development includes examining and accepting the yonic attributes of his body.

Granted, I am only early in season 2. But I just cannot wrap my head around what they are trying to DO with this character. What is the writers' goal? And HOW am I supposed to feel as an audience member?? Am I supposed to laugh at him or care about him? I can't comfortably do either!
