Jurassic Park - Hailey Upton x Reader - Chicago PD
Request: Since your fics are amazing I will ask you, to do a Hailey Upton X reader, something like the reader (new detective) hangs out with Hailey at her apartment and the reader falls asleep on Hailey and then she teases the reader about it at work the next day
You weren’t sure whose idea it was to have an Intelligence bonding session, movie night and get to know the newbie detective event at Hailey’s apartment but you weren’t complaining.
You were currently sat on the couch talking to Kevin, Adam and Kim whilst Jay helped Jay and Vanessa in the kitchen.
“So, Y/n, where were you from before Intelligence?” Kim enquired as you sipped your drink.
“Oh, Major Crimes.” You replied, continuing to chat with the three as Vanessa walked in, sitting on the coffee table to also get involved.
“How was it undercover? I heard Intelligence does a lot of short-term undercover stuff, I don’t understand how you aren’t all recognised immediately to be honest.” You admitted, making Kevin chuckle.
“Yeah, let’s not jinx that...”
*Not my gif*
After an intense game of rock paper scissors between the members of Intelligence, it was Vanessa who eventually won, choosing Jurassic Park to watch on Netflix.
You were sat on the couch with Hailey on your right whilst Jay took the armchair, Kim and Adam were sat on the floor together and Kevin and Vanessa were sat together.
It was about halfway through the movie when you didn’t even realise how your eyes kept fluttering closed until you felt yourself learning at an uncomfortable angle.
You were only awake for a moment after a dinosaur noise from the TV stirred you, your eyes tired enough that you leaned your head back on the couch to stop your back getting sore.
///
Hailey tensed as she noticed how you were slowly leaning towards her, your body unnaturally sinking forwards too, leaving her to the realisation you were most definitely asleep.
She withheld her smirk as you jolted yourself awake after a loud noise from the TV, Hailey’s interest in the movie lost as she watched you lean back against the couch and shut your eyes.
Jay let out a snort that caught Adam’s attention, leading Adam to try kick Kevin in the shin gently but it went ignored. Adam let out a huff at this, leaving Kim to chuckle as she got out her phone, texting Kevin instead.
///
Vanessa frowned as she looked back at Hailey, spotting how you were asleep with your head now resting on Hailey’s shoulder instead of the couch. It was only when Vanessa noticed Hailey’s soft smile that she smirked, winking at Hailey before leaning back into Kevin.
It was only when your body started sinking forwards again that Hailey wrapped her arm around you to keep you on her shoulder. She didn’t need you waking up by crashing to the floor or hitting your head on the coffee table.
Kevin received a playful glare from Hailey as he took a photo of the couch situation, quickly sending it to Kim and Vanessa before he returned to watching the movie.
///
You knew that you had slept through the majority of Jurassic Park, but you didn’t know you’d fallen asleep using Hailey as a pillow until you were at work the next day.
“Hey, Y/n how did you find Jurassic Park?” Jay enquired, leaving you to puff your cheeks up as you couldn’t verbalise an answer.
“I, uh,”
“Jay, lay off, Y/n was too busy sleeping on my shoulder to watch the movie.” Hailey smirked, winking at you as she interrupted Jay.
Your eyes widened, leaving Hailey to smile as she watched you crumble into a stuttering mess before you turned around to rest your head on your desk.
“Not as comfy as my shoulder, is it?” Hailey teased, leaning on your desk as she received the middle finger from you.
“I wouldn’t know, but I do know I woke up with your arm around me.” You retorted, pulling your head up so your chin rested on your desk.
“It was that or you concussed yourself on the coffee table.” Hailey deadpanned, leaving you to stick your tongue out.
“I would have let me fall. Then I’d have been awake for the movie instead of needing to rewatch it because I only saw the start.” You shrugged, leaving Hailey to smirk.
“You’re not the only one who saw only the start... maybe you’d like to watch it with me? Maybe you’ll be awake for it too, but I don’t mind if you use my shoulder as a pillow again?” Hailey proposed, biting her lip as you sat up to rest your chin on your hand.
“Why, Detective Upton, are you asking me on a date?” You smirked, leaving Hailey to chew her lip for a moment, avoiding your eyes.
“Maybe...”
“Then, maybe I’d say yes,” you replied, getting up as Hailey was distracted by her phone buzzing.
One glance at her phone showed the photo Kevin had taken last night, her distracted state giving you the opportunity to kiss her cheek before you fled, leaving Hailey to stare at where you were standing with wide eyes.

Volomag and Vodka Part 6 Facetime
written by @anotheronechicagobog
warnings: swearing, mensions of xenophobia, COVID-19, quarantine
For Jay the worst part about quarantine wasn’t being locked up with Will, it was being away from Hailey. Intelligence had heard from her just as it was starting to get bad, that because New York was a hot spot, Hailey wasn’t going to be returning to Chicago for a while. This spiralled him into a mood, he was pouting all the time, looking at Hailey’s desk longingly, glaring at the temp. Jay had been staring out of the window, looking like a kicked puppy, and Kim was done. “Okay, that’s it!” Everyone in the bullpen turned to her, confused as she whipped out her phone and started facetime someone.
“Hi Kim, how’s-”
“Jay’s moping. Fix him.” Was all she said before tossing her phone to Jay. “Jay?”
He straightened his shoulders and his expression softened out the creases made by his constant frowning. “Don’t listen to Kim, I haven’t been-”
“Yes he has.” No one in Intelligence even had to look up, each and every one of them completely over his kicked puppy routine.
Hailey quirked her eyebrow at him in the teasing manner he loved so much. “Okay, so maybe I miss you a bit.”
He was met with a chorus of scoffs and eye rolls. “... Or a lot. It’s just not the same without you here, and you were supposed to come home a week ago. I know that it because of the pandemic and all...”
“Don’t worry, Jay I miss you a lot too.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Do you know a guy who goes by ‘OA’ from your Ranger days?”
“Yeah, we weren’t in the same regiment but we were in specialized training together. Why?”
“He’s the guy I’m partnered with. He’s nice, but he’s not you, so I didn’t really want to talk about him. But today we were talking at lunch, and I guess I’ve been pretty standoffish with him, so he thought that talking about himself first would help, and I guess it did. He told me that he was a Ranger and I asked if he knew you and he remembered you vaguely too.”
“What regiment was he in?”
“27th.”
“Zidan?”
“Yes!”
“Oh, yeah, I remember him, he was skilled, focused, but he got a lot of shit because his family’s middle eastern, I can’t remember the region or country, but I don’t know if I was ever told. I didn’t ask. He was there for the same reason we all were, and I had respect for him we just didn’t work together much. So he’s your new partner?”
“Temporary partner.” Jay took a relaxing breath. Knowing that she meant it, she was going to come back.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“So you talked to OA.” Jay felt a little guilty, but not much. He’d called some people, who called some people, who were able to give him OA’s contact info, and then he gave OA a call. It was nice to catch up but Jay was honest with the reason he called. OA had chuckled, “don’t worry Halstead, I’ve got your girl’s back.” Jay hadn’t corrected him, he was just relieved to put a face and name to who was working with Hailey. OA had teased him a bit, but overall just nodded at the worry in his voice and said “don’t worry, man. She’ll make it back to you safe and sound. She’s a great cop. She was a little rough around the edges when she got here, weighed down by something, but she’s evolved in such a short period of time. I’d vouch for her. I even heard my boss wanted to offer her a spot,” Jay sucked in a breath as his body went numb and started to sweat, “doubt she’ll take it though. She misses Chicago, her friends, and her family. She misses you.”
“Yeah, well, I needed to make sure that he knew what would happen if he didn’t keep you safe.”
“You didn’t have to do that for me.”
“I did have to do that, just not for you. For me. The world has gotten a heck of a lot more dangerous pretty damn fast, I needed him to know that you have to come home to me- us. That you’re needed here.”
“Okay.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Tell him to stop yelling at officer River.” Is the only greeting she gets from a visibly cross Voight before the phone is straight-up thrown at her partner. “Hey there troublemaker.”
“He’s exaggerating, Hails.”
“I’m sure he is.” The sarcasm dripping off her lips was practically visible. It took Jay a moment to realize that he’d been staring at them and wondering how they’d feel against his or if he brushed his thumb across them, he shook his head before looking into her concerned, soulful eyes.
“How are you doing?”
“Pretty good actually, I mean I still miss you and everyone else like crazy, but because of the pandemic we were able to get a lot more intel on some of the perps we were after and less resistance because so many people in their circles are getting sick. We’ve even been able to make a bunch of high-profile arrests.”
“That’s great, but, uh, you’re not having too much fun in NYC are you?”
“Not even remotely. I can’t wait to get home to you.” His heart skipped a beat and then began to ache for her more. “Seriously, as proud as I am with my accomplishments at the FBI while I’ve been here, I’m really starting to resent this city. I just want to be home. With you.”
“I feel exactly the same way, I promise.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Upton, something’s wrong with Jay.”
“What do you mean?” Hailey looked terrified, the last time something was wrong with him he ended up getting kidnapped and shot. “Someone facetimed him earlier, and at first we all thought it was you... But then his face just changed, it became cold, unreadable. He answered the call in the break room, but he shut the door and the blinds. Ever since he’s been walking around like a zombie.”
“Pass him the phone.”
“Hey Upton.”
*Okay, he called me Upton, not a good start.* “What’s up, Jay?”
“Did you know that Erin was working in the same building as you?”
“I haven’t seen her at all, but I’d have to imagine that she at least works in the vicinity of the headquarters.”
“Well, she’s seen you. And, uh, apparently, she was going to talk to you but then your phone rang, it was last week when Adam-”
“Bought the wrong kind of chocolate for Kim, yeah, that was actually pretty funny. Sorry, continue.”
“Well, she uh, she stuck around and just eavesdropped on the whole call. It didn’t sit well with her apparently, because she called me this morning. She was I don’t know- unhappy? Pissed? But it was all just really weird, because of how she and I left things, and she said that she’s going to be keeping an eye on you. And not in a ‘hey your friend is visiting my city? Yeah, I’ll keep an eye on ‘em, don’t worry’ way. It was in a ‘I don’t trust this girl around my boyfriend’ kinda way. And I know that she’s fluent in Voight, so she’ll figure out pretty damn quick why you’re there, if she hasn’t already, and I’m just really worried for you.”
“That’s not all you’re worried about. I can tell. Spill it, Jay. You know you can talk to me.”
“She was acting like I cheated on her. And she said she still loves me, and I’m just upset she thought it was okay to talk to me like that, about that. I know I made some pretty big mistakes in our relationship, and I know that at least half of the fault falls on me, but it just made me feel dirty, and angry.”
Hailey’s face had softened, and honestly, it just made Jay’s day a thousand times better. “I don’t know if this will make you feel any better, but my time at the FBI has come to an end, and I’ll be getting on a plane to Chicago tomorrow afternoon. I mean, I’ll still have to self-quarantine when I get back for fourteen days, but at least I’ll be home.”
“... So what you’re saying is I won’t be able to see you in person for another two weeks?”
“Sorry, Jay.”
“Damn, just when I think my luck has changed.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I feel bad.”
“Don’t. Vanessa is fine, she’s been a good buffer between Atwater and Jordan, and Vinessa likes having another girl around. Plus there’s the whole Vinessa, Vanessa thing. They’ve been having fun.”
“I still feel bad.”
“Do we need to call her and ask her if she’s mad at you?”
“... No, she’d just yell at me for feeling guilty over nothing.”
“See? Nothing to feel bad about. How are you holding up?”
“I am bored out of my miiiiiiiinnnnnnd.” She groaned and fell back against her couch, pouting at Jay. He smiled softly, giving her a sympathetic and sad look. He knew how bad she felt, he wanted to see her too. He wanted to wrap her in his arms and just hold her.
“I’ve been taking the time to learn how to cook. Mostly with my grandmother’s cookbook, but I found some recipes online, maybe I could drop off some food for you.”
“What does Will say about your cooking?” She was smiling, knowing Will’s opinion on Jay’s cooking.
“Hey, hey, hey now, this conversation isn’t about him.” Jay was laughing, Will’s rants about his previously shitty cooking were widely known among their social circle. “I have gotten much better, I promise. I, uh, I’ve been learning some recipes that I really think you’ll like.”
“I look forward to it Jay, I really do.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hailey’s quarantine was almost over, and Jay was buzzing on the edge of his seat. Before work he’d dropped by with a bag filled with numerous containers of food. Most of it was old traditional Irish food, but he’d tried his hand at a few Greek recipes, hoping to impress Hailey. So when her bubbly face popped up on his screen, he jumped up and took the video call to the breakroom. “Hi Hails-”
“I love you,” his heart actually skipped a beat and his nerve endings heated up “so much right now. This food is AMAZING. And you made Greek food. Keftethes, Souvlaki, Spanikopita, and Baklava. This was so sweet, you didn’t have to do this for me.”
“It, uh, it wasn’t anything special. Really.”
“Thank you Jay. And, I meant it. I love you, Jay.”
“I love you too, Hailey. More than you know.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BONUS
“Guys, guys-”
“What is it, Ruzek. I know that we’re all starved for something to do since the commissioner put us all on grunt work after our suspension, but you need to stop just running into the room like you have news, man.”
“Yeah, what is it this time, the vending machines got refilled?”
“Upstead has sailed, they’re a thing! I just heard them talking! Oh, come on, guys. Atwater, you believe me right? Rojas? Voight?” They shook their heads, wondering if Ruzek had finally snapped after all the pressure they’d been under because of their suspension and involvement in the Black Lives Matter movement.
“Hey, hey, everyone, I just heard Hailey and Jay talking about how they love each other over the phone!”
“Finally!”
“Hallelujah!”
“I’ll get their HR forms started.”
“Oh come on, you believe Kim and not me?”

Dance with me
Thank you to the anon who sent in this prompt! It was really fun to write and I hope you enjoy it!
Fandom: OneChicago
Pairing: multiple
Words: 1119 (so I went a little over. I couldn’t stop myself writing this one 😅)
It looked like every other CPD gala had done. Everything was gleaming with Chicago Pride, the blues and whites on proud display. Most had grumbled at the idea but Jay knew there were few who would be secretly thrilled at the idea of dressing up for the night.
And dress up they did. Jay wasn’t a big fan of the fancy suits and ties but he couldn’t help but notice Hailey eyeing him with approval when he had stepped out of their bedroom earlier. She however had all but knocked the good sense out of him and stole every rationale thought. She might not have been a big fan of dressing up either but oh how well she did. The dress she had chosen has her method of torture for that night was a stunning number, with a bare back and a high slit running up one leg.
“Man, if you stare any harder she might explode,” Adam teased from beside him.
Jay elbowed him as he took another sip of his drink. “At least, I know I’m going home with the only woman I want tonight.”
“What does that mean?”
Jay raised a brow but it was Kevin who answered, a good-natured chuckle mixing with his words. “C’mon man, you and Kim have been doing that thing you do for months now.”
“What thing? We don’t do a thing.”
“Yeah, you do, tell ‘im Jay,” Kevin replied.
“You do a thing.” Jay shrugged. Adam looked at him, waiting for him to explain, “You two have been dancing around each other for months. You act like you wanna be together, but you never … act on it.”
“Yeah, well it’s complicated,” Adam grumbled. But as he did so, he looked to the table where Kim sat with Hailey. He would be the stupidest man on earth to deny there was still something between them. He won’t even voice his silent hopes that things would eventually work out as he always prayed. “And what about you?” he asked looking at Kevin, “When are you gonna actually ask Vanessa out?”
“Nah, don’t try to detract from your own problems,” Kevin said shaking his head.
“Now wait, I think Adam’s got a point,” Jay said smiling cheekily at his friend. “How long are you going to make her wait?”
Kevin looked between his friends as Adam taking the reins continued, “I mean, a girl like that doesn’t wait around for … whatever excuse you’ve cooked up.”
“It’s not… there’s no …” Kevin stuttered before shaking his head.
“Just as her to dance before someone else does,” Adam said. “Or are you a little nervous?”
That had done it. Kevin threw back the last of his drink, before leaving his friends at their table. Jay and Adam looked at each other rather amused as they watched Kevin approach Vanessa. He said something that had her laughing before he was pulling her to the dance floor.
Kevin looked very happy and Vanessa was laughing again as he twirled her around. But Jay noticed that look in his eyes. He doubted anyone else might have seen it if they didn’t know what to look for.
It was the way he looked at Hailey. It was that look he got when he was holding in his arms. No matter what, it always made him feel complete, and breathless all in one go. He glanced back to the table and this time he was able to catch Hailey’s attention and he smiled.
She smiled too and then a moment later Kim and her were making their way over to them.
“Huh, just like that,” Adam mused, still watching Kevin.
“Maybe you should give it a try,” Jay suggested.
“After you,” Adam challenged.
“I don’t dance.”
“Not at all?” Kim asked as they finally came over.
Hailey slid easily into Jay’s side. “No, but then again, I’m not much of a dancer myself,” she said.
“Oh well that’s a shame. That’s kinda what I love most about these things,” Kim said looking out at the dance floor longingly. “Well that and the open bar.”
They all laughed as Jay looked over at Adam and then rolled his eyes, shoving his friend in the back as subtly as he could.
Adam cleared his throat as he turned to Kim, extending his hand. “Dance with me?”
Kim raised a brow, “You dance?”
“I might know a few moves,” Adam shrugged. “Come on,” he said looking at her with that smile he knew she loved.
Kim barely hesitated as she let him lead her onto the dance floor. Adam twirled her around before bringing her close, closer than she had been in months. He could barely remember the reason why they had agreed to such distance between them with her pressed close. He could smell her flowery perfume and hear her small intake of breath as his hand squeezed her hip.
“You think either of them will take the hint after tonight?” Hailey asked Jay softly. They both stood watching their friends with fond smiles on their faces.
“I hope so. There is only so much more of this weird dance they keep doing around each other,” Jay groaned.
Hailey turned to him, a smile playing on her lips. “Well, they’re finally all dancing to the same song so maybe that’s worth something.”
“I hope so,” Jay whispered. He pulled her closer. “Were we that clueless?”
Hailey laughed. “I think we were worse.” Jay looked like he wanted to object. “Jay, you got shot, I moved to another city and we still didn’t tell each other how we felt. We might not be great dancers, but we danced plenty around each other for a long time.”
Jay chuckled, knowing that much was true. His fingers teased delicately along her back, and Hailey drew in a slow heavy breath. His lips ghosted over hers and Hailey was glad Jay had had the good sense to keep to the shadows. Especially with the way his fingers danced up her leg, reaching the top of the slit.
“How about one more dance, detective?” Jay asked.
“I’m not much of a dancer.”
“Neither am I,” Jay whispered. “But you’re the only one I want to dance with.”
“Well, maybe one more dance,” Hailey agreed and then stepped closer, her lips hovering over his ear, “cause I can think of something we do a lot better than dancing.”
She smiled mischievously as Jay groaned. He kissed her, his hand slipping into her hair as the other grasped her thigh, with promise. She didn’t have to say and he didn’t have to ask as he led them towards their friends on the dance floor.

CPD PREFERENCE; Being Voight’s Daughter & Him Finding Out You’re Dating Someone From Intelligence.
❛❛ Love Count your blessing! inspired me to request this could I please get a cpd preference/headcanon of y/n being voights daughter and him finding out she is dating one of the team members! Maybe you could do a part 2 to Adams in this request🖤💙❤️❜❜-Anon
WARNINGS: Crockett trying to steal y/n away from jay, kissing, fluff, angry! Hank, hank in general, whumps, hospitals, fighting, errors I missed.
A/N: Got a Chicago P.D. request? Send it in! REQUESTS ARE OPEN!
Kevin Atwater:
Hank opened the door to a coffee shop. Walking into the shop. He stopped in his tracks as he saw Kevin and you sitting in a booth. Holding each other’s hands. Beaming at each other.
Hank let out a grunt. Walking over to Kevin and you. Standing in front of the table Kevin and you were sitting in.
“So, when were you going to tell me?” Hank spoke. Making you jump in fright. Kevin’s eyes widen slightly before he composed himself. He knew eventually Hank was going to find out that Kevin was dating you.
“Dad,” You gasped out, craning your head to look at him. Gulping as Hank looked at you then at Kevin, face void of expression. Kevin looked more composed than you were. Kevin still held onto your hand.
“Look, Voight…” Kevin started to say only for Hank to interrupt him.
“I’m not mad that you are dating my daughter, I’m just mad the two of you hide it from me,” Hank spoke.
“I was afraid of how you were going to react, and by react, I mean threaten Kevin, or have his job, you weren’t that nice to my previous boyfriend,” You stated. Making Hank look at you for a second, raising his eyebrows, then let out a grunt.
“Do you blame me your track record of boyfriends isn’t exactly perfect,” Hank grumbled out.
“He's right, I mean the last boyfriend you had turned out to be a drug lord,” Kevin spoke. Making Hank nod his head in agreement.
“Hey, you are meant to be on my side,” You huffed out.
“I’m just telling it how it is, don’t get me started on the boyfriend before the drug lord,” Kevin spoke. Shrugging his shoulders. Making you narrow your eyes at him.
“He was a prick,” Hank grumbled out. Kevin nodded his head in agreement, while you looked at your dad then at Kevin in annoyance.
“Okay, I’m going to go get coffees, before my father and you decided to bring up more of my ex’s that you think are complete assholes,” You grumbled, getting up, rolling your eyes as you walked to the counter.
Kevin smiled at you lovingly as he watched you walk away. Hank sat down in front of Kevin.
“I like you Kevin, but if you hurt her, I will hurt you,” Hank spoke. Making Kevin look away from you to look at Hank.
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” Kevin answered truthfully. Making Hank smile.
“Good,” Hank replied. Turning his head to look at you, feeling ecstatic that you were finally in a good relationship…
Kim Burgess:
Kim quickly grabbed your wrist before you could punch the locker door.
“It wasn’t your fault,” Kim told you. Giving you a sympathetic look.
“She’s dead because I shot her, so, yeah it’s my fault,” You snapped. As tears blurred your vision.
“It was a good shot, okay, she had a gun, she didn’t listen to your orders, you had to,” Kim reassured you.
“At the end of the day, I’m the one that shot her,” You gasped out. Running your fingers through your hair. Back pressed against the locker. You slid down to the floor.
“Y/n,” Kim sighed, sitting down next to you. She wrapped her arms around you. Pulling you closer to her side.
“You did what you had to do,” She cooed.
Making you crane your head to look up at her. Tears falling from your eyes. It broke her heart.
“Don’t ever doubt yourself,” Kim spoke, as she unwrapped her right arm from you. Grabbing the side of your face. Leaning her head down to yours. Eye’s fluttering closed as her lips hovered above yours. Kim’s eyes fluttered closed as her lips touched yours. Making you let out a soft gasp.
The kiss didn’t last long, because the sound of someone clearing their throat made Kim and you pull away from each other.
Both of you looked in the direction of where the sound came from. Eyes widening in horror. Kim quickly unwrapped her arm from you. Getting up she tried to talk but Hank let out a grunt before she could even utter a single word. Making Kim’s heart pound faster. You got up slowly. Looking just as frightened as Kim looked.
“Just don’t let it interfere with your work,” He grunted. Giving Kim and you a hard glare before turning around and walking out of the room.
“Well, that went better than we thought it would, right or do you think he is going to kill me in my sleep,” She gasped out. Eyes wide with fright.
You slightly smiled at her. Walking closer to her till you stood in front of her. Cupping the side of her face. Thumbs caressing her cheeks.
“Relax Kim, it could have gone much worse, and by worse, I mean a yelling match,” You spoke. Making her slightly calm down.
“Least we don’t have to hide it from him anymore,” She spoke.
“Just the rest of the team though,” You spoke. Making her smile. She leaned her forehead against yours.
“I love you,” She beamed.
“I love you more,” You replied.
“Impossible,” she giggled.
Before you could respond, she grabbed the side of your face. Pressing a soft kiss against your lips…
Antonio Dawson:
Antonio grabbed the doorknob of your front door. Turning it open. His other hand grabbing your side. While your hands grabbed the side of his face. Pressing your body against his, as he pressed his back on the door. Opening the door. Antonio walked backwards into your apartment. One of your hands let go of the side of his face. Reaching out and closing the door.
Antonio and you pulled away from each other. Eyes still locked onto each other, as he stripped his jacket off, you did the same stripping your jacket off.
His hands grabbed the side of your face. Roughly pulling you closer to his body. His lips roughly pressing against yours. Making you let out a moan. Gripping his sides.
Antonio pushed you up against the wall, hands trailing down to your waist. Hiking you up. Your legs immediately wrapped around his waist.
Antonio broke the kiss, his lips going straight to your neck. Your head tilted to the side, as a moan escaped your mouth.
“I had a feeling something was going on between Antonio and you,” Your father spoke. Making a scream came from your mouth. Antonio quickly put your feet back on the ground. Both of you looking at Hank in shock.
“Dad,” You gasped out. Feeling slightly exposed even though you still had your clothes on. The only thing you stripped off was your jumper.
“Hank,” Antonio gasped out. Standing next to you. Antonio slightly stood in front of you. Making Hank raise his eyebrow at Antonio.
“What are you doing here?” You asked, one of your hands grabbed the back of his shirt for comfort.
“I think the better question is what are you doing kissing Antonio?” Hank’s voice boomed across
You gulped. While Antonio tried to play it cool. His protective side taking over.
“Because we are dating,” Antonio answered for you. Making you glare at the back of his head. Heart racing. You didn’t want them to fight in your place or fight at all. But your secret relationship with Antonio just got discovered.
“Ow, he was going to find out,” Antonio grunted as you pinched his arm. He looked over his shoulder to look at you.
“I prefer the latter, the much later,” You grunted.
“How long?” Hank asked. Making you gulp.
“For a while now,” Antonio answered, as Hank gave him a cold hard stare. Making you feel nervous.
“Look dad it wasn’t a spur of a moment or a one-night stand that led us together, it has been bubbling up for a while,” You spoke. Voice quaking with worry.
“Oh, I know, the long glances you give each other, the touches, I’m not an idiot,” Hank grunted. His eyes still locked on Antonio’s
“I love her Hank, more than anything,” Antonio spoke, staring at Hank with a genuine expression.
Hank grunted in response to what Antonio said.
“Just don’t break her heart,” Hank spoke.
“I would never,” Antonio responded.
“We will see,” Hank grumbled, turning around, and walking to your kitchen.
Antonio wrapped his arm around you, pulling you closer to his side. Pressing a soft kiss against the top of your head….
Greg ‘Mouse’ Gerwitz:
Mouse checked around the ward before stepping inside your room, he poked his head into your room, looking around your room to see if Hank was in the room.
A giggle escaped your mouth as you saw Mouse stick his head in.
“He's not here,” You spoke, voice slightly slurring from the pain meds they gave you.
Mouse slightly smiled. Stepping into the room. He closed the door, then pulled the curtain across.
“Unless he is hiding under the bed,” You joked, winking at him. Mouse grabbed a chair. Pulling it over to your side. Mouse sat on the chair. Grabbing ahold of your hand.
“How much pain meds are you on?” Mouse asked.
“Mmm, I don’t know enough that I don’t feel that searing pain in my shoulder.” You replied. Smiling lovingly at him.
“You had me worried, I thought you were going to die,” Mouse spoke. Bringing your hand up to his lips.
“Here I am still surviving,” You slurred, arching your brow at him.
Mouse tried to contain his chuckle but failed.
“Your cute,” You beamed.
“Yeah,” Mouse spoke, his cheeks turning a light shade of pink.
“Totally,” You slurred, raising your other hand to pinch his cheek.
The sound of the door sliding opened, made Mouse drop your hand, quickly, but it was too late Hank already saw Mouse holding your hand before he pulled his hand away.
“Sargeant Voight, this isn’t what it looks like, I was just visiting y/n,” Mouse gasped out. Making Hank look at Mouse, raising his eyebrows.
“Hi Dad,” You cheerily greeted him.
“This exactly what it looks like,” You slurred.
“We’re in love,” You beamed, Mouse gave you a mortified look. Feeling like the walls were closing around him.
Mouse turned his head to Hank.
“I would never hurt her,” Mouse tried to reassure your father.
“True,” You backed him up. Nodding your head.
“I love her,” Mouse told your father.
“Also, true, and I love him,” You beamed. Reaching your hand out to hold his hand pouting at him when you couldn’t grab his hand.
Hank’s cold expression turned into a smile. Finding the situation slightly amusing. Mouse was nervous while you were calm as ever.
“Guess, the cats out of the bag,” You stated. Shrugging your shoulders like it wasn’t a big deal.
Hank looked at Mouse. Giving him a serious look, which made Mouse shake in fear even more.
“If you hurt my daughter or break her heart, I will hurt you in ways worse then what you witnessed or went through in the military,” Hank threatened. Making Mouse gulp, he nodded his head yes, too afraid to speak. Not that he could get anything out.
“He isn’t joking on that,” You commented. Making Hank let out a chuckle. While Mouses eyes widen…
Jay Halstead:
Crockett raised his hand, making you let out a giggle, as you high fived his hand.
“You impress me every minute,” Crockett praised you. As he and you walked to the parking lot.
“Well, I do my best,” You chuckled. Gripping the strap of your backpack tighter.
“Perfection is the world,” Crockett praised you. Making you stop walking. Turning around to face him. Crockett turned his body to face you. Giving you a charming smile.
He quickly leaned down. Pressing his lips against yours passionately, taking you by surprise. you quickly pushed him off you. Looking at him with a shocked expression.
“I have a boyfriend,” You gasped out.
“Oh,” Crockett added. Looking heartbroken.
“It’s not that I don’t find you attractive or that you are undatable, it’s just I have…” You spoke, but Crockett cut you off.
“You have a boyfriend, I get it, sorry I kissed you,” Crockett spoke.
“Well, he is a lucky guy to have an amazing woman like you in his life,” Crockett spoke again.
“Yeah, water under the bridge,” You spoke. Giving him a half-smile.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” Crockett spoke, turning around and walking away, making you let out a sigh. You turned around. The sound of a gun being fired sounded out through the car parking lot.
You let out a gasp as something ripped through your body. You looked down at your stomach, seeing a large pool of blood. You didn’t even notice the bright lights of the car's headlights or the sound of a car coming towards you. But Crockett did.
He turned around quickly rushing over to you, but it was too late.
“Y/n,” He shouted, as the car hit you, your body hitting the windshield of the car with so much force.
He quickly rushed over to you, as the car speed away.
Cupping your head. You looked up at him with a shocked expression. Blood dripping down from your head. Breathing swallow. Looking down your body to see a bullet wound, and a pool of blood staining your shirt.
“Y/n stay with me,” Crockett spoke. As he looked at your pupils.
“Tell J….” You gasped out, chocking on every word. Making Crockett panic.
“Tell J what? Y/n, you have to stay with me, okay,” Crockett spoke.
You opened your mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Your eyes rolled to the back of your head. Eyes fluttering closed.
“Y/n,” Crockett panicked. Picking you up. He quickly rushed into the hospital. Going straight to the ER.
Maggie looked up as she saw Crockett holding you.
“Baghdad,” Maggie instructed him. Crockett quickly rushed to Baghdad, placing you on the bed. Putting the pulse oximetry on your index finger. The machine immediately beeped loudly.
“Y/n,” Will gasped out. Rushing over to Crockett, Maggie. April quickly rushed into the room.
“What happened?” Will asked as he repositioned your head to put intubate you. Will intubated you while Crockett cut your shirt to see the gunshot wound.
“She got shot then a car run over her,” Crockett replied.
“Did it exit?” Will asked as he bagged you.
Crockett rolled, shaking his head. Maggie helped Crockett roll you to your side. Seeing no exit wound. Maggie and Will looked at Crockett with hopeful eyes. Crockett shook his head.
“I need an x-ray,” Crockett demanded. Maggie quickly got one of the techs to come in.
Crockett, Will, April, and Maggie looked at the screen. Feeling more anxious as they saw the results.
“She needs to go to the operating room,” Crockett spoke. They all nodded. Transferring you upstairs…

Hank held onto his vest as he stood outside the building intelligence raided. Watching the guys, they bust get put into the back seat of cop cars.
His phone ringing. Hank grabbed his phone, looking at the caller ID. He quickly pressed the green button. Raising the phone to his ear.
“Hello, Hank, your daughter had an accident, we believe it was an attempted murder,” Sharon spoke. Hank’s face went pale, as he heard that. His heart thumping in his ears.
Hank didn’t hear the rest of what Sharon was saying. He slowly lowered his phone from his hand. Pressing the end button.
Hank looked like he was going to be sick.
“You okay boss?” Adam asked, noticing Hanks pale expression.
“I have to go to the hospital, it’s y/n, someone tried to murder her,” Hank spoke in a rush. Rushing to his car.
The whole teams face dropped into a look of concern. As they heard the news. Jay looked the most distraught out of all of them. Heart hurting. Eyes filling up with tears.
Jay quickly took off his vest, rushing to his truck.
“Jay where are you going?” Hailey asked. Following him.
“To the hospital,” Jay responded, as he got into the vehicle. Slamming the door on her and speeding off. The rest of the team giving each other looks. Hailey turned around to face them. Giving them a look of defeat.
“We should investigate,” Hailey spoke. Making the rest of the team agree. Getting into their cars and driving to the hospital…

Jay rushed into the ER. Heart racing.
“Will,” Jay gasped out as he saw his brother at the nurse’s station. Jay rushed over to Will. Clinging onto Will’s arm. As he cried.
“Jay,” Will spoke, pulling Jay into a private area. Away from nurses or anyone who was listening in.
“Is she okay? What room is she in? What floor?” Jay asked. Looking at his brother with tear-filled eyes.
“Jay, she’s hanging in there, she’s in recovery, you should go before Hank finds out you are here or at least calm your emotions before you enter her room,” Will spoke. Giving his brother a concerned look. Jay shook his head.
“I don’t care about that, she’s in a hospital bed fighting for her life,” Jay snapped. Making Will pinch the bridge of his nose in frustration.
“Jay, you’re not thinking rationally,” Will huffed out.
“Yes, I am, my girlfriend is lying there and I’m talking to you about keeping my emotions in cheek,” Jay shouted.
“Girlfriend,” Hailey gasped out. Making Jay turn around to look at her. He gave her an annoyed expression for eavesdropping. It wasn’t any of her business, and as much as he valued her as a partner and friend now wasn’t the time for her to act shocked about finding out he was in a secret relationship, he would deal with it later.
“I don’t have time for this, yes my girlfriend, I’m going to see her,” Jay grumbled, walking off. Hailey looked at him with a hurt expression.
Will gave Hailey a reassuring smile.
“He didn’t mean it, y/n’s in recovery if you want to see her or hank, can’t miss her,” Will spoke, as he left Hailey to do his rounds.
Jay stood outside of your room. Finding the courage to tell your dad he as in a relationship with you, and they were hiding it from him.
Jay inhaled deeply then exhaled. Grabbing the door handle and sliding the door open. Feeling like he got his breath knocked out of him as he saw you lying on the hospital bed. A deep gash on your hairline. Cuts along the top of your eyebrows thought there were butterfly band-aids on them. A cut on your lip.
“Hank, there is something I need to tell you,” Jay gasped out. Heart racing.
“Did you find the guy who did this to her?” Hank asked. As he kept his eyes locked on you. Holding onto your hand. Jay’s heart ached to hold your hand. But he had to tell Hank he was dating you.
“Y/n and I have been in a relationship for a few months now, we just didn’t know how to tell you,” Jay confessed. Hank clenched his jaw. Making Jay nervous. Hank let go of your hand. Carefully put your hand down on the bed.
He stood up, the chair scraping on the ground. Making Jay slightly flinch. Hank lunged himself at Jay. Punching him in the face.
“This is all your fault that she is laying in a hospital bed, one of your enemies or someone who hates you did this to her, maybe it was Angela,” Ha growled with venom in his voice.
“It’s just as much my fault as yours, you have made more enemies than me,” Jay snapped out. Pushing Hank off him.
“Hey,” Crockett yelled pulling Hank off Jay. While Hailey rushed to Jay’s side, Hailey pushed away from Hailey. Hank and Jay glared at each other…
Vanessa Rojas:
Vanessa held the side of your face as she deepened the kiss. Your hands grabbing the lapels of her jacket. Pushing her back against the locker.
The sound of someone clearing their throat made Vanessa and you pull away from each other. Looking at where the sound came from.
Eyes widening in fear as Vanessa saw your dad standing in the middle of the room with a displeased look on his face. Scowling at Vanessa. Vanessa gulped before speaking. Feeling slightly intimated.
“I’m not using your daughter as a steppingstone,” She spoke up. Making Hanks gaze intensified. Almost like he was glaring daggers at her.
“I love your daughter, and I would never use her to get ahead in intelligence,” She spoke again. Trying to sound confident but she was scared.
Hank gave Vanessa one last cold hard glare, before walking off.
“Do you think he hates me?” She asked as she turned around to face you.
“He’ll get over it,” You replied nonchalantly. Making Vanessa give you a look of surprise at how calm you were acting.
“Trust me, if he wanted to kill you he would have done it by now,” You replied. Making her give you a dumbfounded look.
“So, you love me huh?” You spoke. Smirking at her. Her heart fluttering.
“Too soon, isn’t it, I know it’s too early to say I love you’s but…” She spoke. Only for you to cut her off by grabbing the side of her face and pressing your lips against hers passionately.
“It’s never too soon,” You spoke into the kiss….
Adam Ruzek: {this is a part two of Count Your Blessing}
Adam let out a groan, as he ran his hand threw his hair. Looking at the piles of paperwork he had to do. Ever since Hank found him in bed with you, he has been hard on him. Snapping at him.
“Dude, what did you do to Voight?” Kevin asked.
“Dated his daughter,” Adam responded. Letting out another groan.
“Y/n and you? Damn, I always thought y/n and I had a thing,” Kevin responded.
“Unless you value your job, it’s probably best to stay away from her,” Adam responded, making Kevin let out a chuckle. Adam turned to look at Voight in his office to see Voight on the phone. Looking distressed.
Voight quickly hanged up the phone. Grabbing his jacket and walking out of his office.
“Voight, you okay?” Kevin asked.
“It’s y/n, she’s been in a car accident,” Hank answered, tears pricking his eyes. Adam felt his heart tightening.
Hank quickly walked off.
“You okay?” Kevin asked, noticing Adam’s reaction. Adam gulped.
“Yeah,” Adam replied. Looking at the pc screen.
Kevin let out a sigh.
“Go, see her,” Kevin spoke.
“We aren’t together anymore,” Adam spoke. Making Kevin let out a small chuckle.
“But you still feel something for her, go see her, I’ll cover for you,” Kevin spoke again, making Adam sigh. He got up in a rush. Grabbing his jacket and putting it on.
“I owe you,” Adam spoke.
“Sure do,” Kevin replied. As Adam rushed down the stairs and out of the station…
°。°。°。°。°。°。°。゜。°。°。°。
“Dad, can you stop babying me, I’m honestly fine,” You sighed, trying to sit up but he stopped you.
“You’re not fine, you have two broken ribs, a concussion, a deep gash on your forehead not to mention a dislocated knee,” Hank responded. You tried to suppress an eye roll.
“But I’m alive,” You sighed.
“Barely, when I came in you were barely holding on to life, I thought you were dead, that guy t boned you, your car rolled, you are lucky you are even awake right now, ” Hank shouted, tears coming from his eyes. Making your eyes well up with tears.
“Hey, sh,” Hank cooed, hugging you as carefully as he could.
“You just scared me,” Hank sniffled. Pulling away. Grabbing the side of your face.
“I didn’t see him coming, dad, he just came out of nowhere, and the light was green, so I went through it,” You sobbed. Hank wiped your fallen tears away. Anger bubbling up inside of him at the other driver.
“I promise you, that guy who hit you won’t be ever getting his license he will be hit with charges,” Hank spoke. Making you frown.
“Dad,” You gasped out, looking at him with slightly wide eyes. Your heart rate picking up.
“I’ll be back, I have to take care of something,” Hank spoke. Leaning down and pressing a soft kiss on your forehead.
“Dad, please don’t do anything stupid.” You spoke, as he pulled away and walked out of your room.
You slightly sat up. Cringing in pain. Your eyes widen in shock as you saw Adam.
“Adam, what are you doing here?” You gasped out.
“I had to see you,” He gasped out. Rushing over to your side. Grabbing ahold of your hand.
“You should go, before my dad gets back,” You gasped out, trying to pull your hand away from his but failing.
“Your hurt,” Adam gasped out. Inspecting your wounds.
“Adam now is not a good time,” You panicked. Looking over his shoulder.
“I just had to make sure you were okay,” Adam spoke. His thumb caressing the back of his hand.
“I’ll just text you when he leaves the hospital, go before he murders you,” You spoke. Trying to push him away again but failed.
“I can’t keep hiding this from him,” He spoke. Making your heart rate speed up more. The machine beeping.
“No, he will murder you, Adam, you can’t,” You gasped out. Giving him a pleading look.
“I can’t keep our relationship a secret any longer,” Adam gasped out.
“You bastard,” Hank gasped out. Pulling Adam away from you and throwing him on the ground.
“Dad, no,” You shouted, gaining the attention of nurses.
“I told you to break up with her and you didn’t, you snuck behind my back,” Hank yelled. Pinning Adam to the ground by his shoulders. Nostrils flared, eyes narrowing into slits. Mouth set in a thin line.
“Sir, you need to step back,” Security commanded, pulling Hank off of Adam, another security guard helping the other guard out.
Hank glared at Adam, then looked at you shaking his head in disapproval, making you cry…
Hailey Upton:
Hailey’s jaw tightened. Jealousy spiking inside of her as she watched some scumbag run his hands up your legs, getting a little bit closer to you, as you twirled your straw around in the glass.
“What a pig,” She grumbled, venom in her voice. Making Jay look up from the monitor. Arching an eyebrow at her.
“Y/n can handle herself, plus she would say the safe word if she was uncomfortable,” Jay spoke, looking back at the monitor, this only seemed to irritate Hailey more.
Hailey clenched her fists into balls. Feeling disgusted at the guy for putting his hands on you.
“I’m going to go in,” Hailey announced. Taking her headphones off. She got up, but Jay stopped her.
“Woah, she’s doing fine,” Jay spoke, grabbing her forearm. Hailey shook her head, shaking off Jay’s grip. She turned around to look back at him. Glaring at him.
“She needs me,” Hailey spoke.
“Hailey, if you go in there you will blow her cover,” Jay argued with her.
“Then I’ll go in as her backup,” Hailey snapped.
“Hailey,” Jay snapped.
“You can’t stop me,” Hailey growled. Getting out of the van. Walking into the bar making you slightly sit up.
“What’s wrong?” The guy spoke, looking behind him.
“It’s nothing, I just really need my fix,” You spoke.
“Doesn’t look like nothing, I think your one of those undercover cops,” He spoke. Looking at you suspiciously. This made Hailey nervous. She was close enough to hear and see what was happening. Hailey grabbed her gun, drawing it out.
“What’s going on why is Hailey in there?” Hank spoke, through the walkie talkie. Jay inhaled then exhaled, grabbing the walkie talkie.
“Hailey thought y/n was made, so she came in,” Jay lied, covering for his partner. Hank let out a grunt.
“It’s just the withdrawals, I really need a fix,” You begged.
“Maybe, you should get help,” He spoke, making you slightly panic.
“Well, if I get help then you wouldn’t have any business, not to mention I can get you, potential customers,” You spoke. Giving him a sly smile.
“As well as please you,” You seductively spoke, running your index up his arm. Making Hailey get jealous.
The guy smirked at you. Hailey glared at him.
“Not here, out the back,” The guy spoke. Standing up.
“drugs first before I go down on you,” You demanded. Grabbing his forearm.
The guy let out a sigh, grabbing a packet out from his back pocket. Handing it over to you.
“Thanks,” You beamed. Smirking at him. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Hailey came towards the guy. Grabbing his arm roughly and pushing him against the counter with excessive force.
“CPD, you’re under arrest, ” Hailey yelled. Pressing him harder.
“You bitch,” He growled looking at you.
“Don’t talk to her like that asshole,” Hailey snapped, grabbing his head, and turning it roughly to face her.
“You’re going along for a long time,” She snarled out. Pulling him up and walking him out of the bar.
Hank gave the guy a cold hard stare, as Jay helped Hailey out.
His cold stare turned into a look of worry as you came out of the door.
“You okay?” Hank asked you.
“Yeah,” You replied, handing him the bag. Hank took the small bag from you, letting out a grunt. Handing it to another cop who walked by him.
“Y/n, what’s going on between Hailey and you?” Hank asked.
“Nothing,” You replied. Giving him a convincing smile. But he knew better.
“Hmm, by her reaction it seemed personal,” Hank spoke. Holding onto his vest.
“She’s just worried about me,” You replied.
“So, was I but I didn’t go and rush in there,” Hank responded.
“Look, Dad, I really have to get to my job, you know as a firefighter,” You huffed out. Leaning up and kissing his cheek.
“Be careful,” Hank spoke. Making you smile.
“Always am,” You responded, walking off.
“I’ll get a statement from you after your shift ends,” Hank spoke loudly.
“Looking forward to it,” You yelled. Getting into your car.
Hank looked back at Hailey to see her watching you.
“Doesn’t seem like nothing,” Hank muttered to himself….

Hailey hadn't gone to many weddings in her life. It wasn't entirely surprising, given her childhood. Her mother would have to furiously cover up her bruises, as would her brothers. Then there was the chance of her father exhibiting questionable behaviour in public after he'd hit the open bar, and they couldn't have that. So, instead, the Upton family always marked the 'politely decline' option and sent the RSVP with a cheque instead. But now that Hailey was an adult and old enough to have friends who were getting married, weddings were becoming the new normal. The months of May to September are the classic wedding months, and Hailey knew that better than ever. She had attended three weddings within the past few months and truth be told, she was exhausted of attending them solo. She thought about finding a date, but it honestly seemed more trouble than it was worth. However, this time, things were slightly different. Her childhood friend, Raquel Sousa, was getting married this weekend. Hailey and Raquel had grown up on the same street, gone to all the same schools, and even attended the academy together. When they were assigned to different precincts, they hastily grew apart, and when Hailey went undercover, they weren't able to contact each other for months on end. They tried to keep in touch with random little messages every once in a while to alert the other that they were thinking about them, but it wasn't the same. But when Hailey received Raquel's wedding invitation in her mail a few months back, her blue eyes teared up instantly in blinding happiness. She was incredibly happy for her friend; so much so, that she took out her phone to message her, and hadn't stopped since. It was how she knew Raquel was incredibly stressed about planning, especially about the seating arrangements. "You need to bring a plus one!" Raquel had said to her two weeks earlier when they met up for coffee. It had been a long day and Hailey was utterly exhausted, but coffee with one of her oldest friends seemed to help. Hailey took a sip of her coffee, narrowing her blue eyes. "Uh — why is that?" "Because my tables aren't even! Specifically your table isn't even, and it would be if you brought a plus one!" Hailey was still confused. "Your argument seems flawed. Why don't you just add someone to the table?" "Because then it would just unbalance another table!" Raquel explained with a dramatic huff. "And I don't want you sitting alone at the table, Hails. There aren't going to be a lot of people you know there, and I'm going to be a little busy." "I won't be alone. I have the rest of the table," Hailey replied, enjoying the way her friend's eye twitched in frustration. Raquel took a bite out of her croissant. "What about that guy you're seeing?" "What guy?" Hailey snorted. "Do you mean the guy I just arrested a few hours ago? Because that's about the only action I'm getting lately." Raquel rolled her eyes, but there was a hint of an amused smile. "No! The one that's all over your instagram. He's cute! Why don't you bring him?" It took Hailey a moment, but she finally figured out who she was talking about. "Oh — oh, Jay? No, I'm not seeing him. He's just my parter." "Well, whoever he is, you should bring him. Or someone, I don't care who, just do me this one favour and bring someone." Hailey stared at her for a moment, before breaking into a small grin. "Fine. I'll bring a plus one." "Yes!" Raquel cheered excitedly. "Just let me know their name by this weekend so I can include it in my display!" She took another bite from her croissant, before raising her devious eyes back up to Hailey's face. "Tell me more about this Jay though..." 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛 The next day following her coffee date, she was receiving hourly messages from Raquel to make sure she actually found a date. Honestly, her friend's confidence in her dating skills astounded her. She spent the day with Jay, but couldn't bring herself to ask him; she just found it so embarrassing. So, instead, she found discreet opportunities within the day to ask her fellow Intelligence members. Kim apologized but said she had already devoted the entire day to her niece and she couldn't back out, not that Hailey would let her anyway. And Vanessa had a date, and no matter how much she loved Hailey, this was a very special date that she couldn't miss. Kevin looked frustrated when he informed her it was his little sister's birthday and he couldn't miss it, but assured her in any other circumstance, he would absolutely love to be her date. Hailey's second last option was Adam and unfortunately for her, he was as subtle as a car alarm. "You want me to be your date to a wedding?" He echoed her question, in a loud voice that travelled from the break room into the bullpen. Hailey noticed from the corner of her eye as Jay's head peeked up from where he was sitting at his desk, working on paperwork; of course his desk was closest to the break room. Hailey instantly slapped Adam's bicep. "Shh!" She admonished, but didn't really have an excuse to share with him when he glared at her in confusion. "Yes, I do. If you're available. Please tell me you're available." "I'm always available for you, Hailey," he replied with flirtatious lilt, but Hailey could see in his eyes it was all just fun and games. They had their fun little run together, but it was clear to both of them, more than ever, that they were better off as friends. Flirty friends, maybe, but nothing more. For a moment, Hailey was hopeful her begging journey could end here; but then Adam frowned. "But I can't," he replied, "I'm helping my sister move this weekend. She'll kill me if I try to bail." Hailey's shoulders sagged and she took a long, deep sip from her coffee mug. "Oh," she responded sadly, "That's okay. Thank you anyway." "Sorry, Hails," he nudged the top of her head, as he waited for her to catch up. "If it wasn't for that, I totally would. Any place with an open-bar and a dance floor, you know I'm there." At this point, they were passing Jay's desk and Hailey was positive he could hear their entire conversation, but she couldn't be bothered anymore. Hailey took a seat in her chair, while Adam took his seat behind her. Before devoting his time to his paperwork, he leaned back and whispered to Hailey, "You ask Halstead already?" "No," Hailey hissed back. "You should," he replied, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Hailey whipped her head around, completely nailing Adam in the face with her blonde locks; he disgustingly removed her curls from his mouth. "Stop talking about this before I stab you in the carotid with my pen!" Adam's eyes flashed dangerously. "You really know the way to a man's heart, Upton." Hailey rolled her eyes, but she couldn't help but smirk at his words. As she turned back around in her seat, she noticed Jay peering at her from behind his computer screen. Hailey avoided his captivating eyes. 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛 Hailey was walking to her SUV in the district parking lot, debating whether she should turn around and beg Jay to accompany her to the wedding, when she was stopped by Jay himself. "Hey," he greeted her gruffly. He was wearing his puffer jacket over his dark blue Henley (one of Hailey's favourite shirts on him) and his eyes were darting around her face, almost as if he was nervous about something. "Sorry, I just have to ask you something." Hailey looked on expectantly. "Yeah, sure. What is it?" Jay's eyes danced around her, before finally settling on her blue ones. "Were you going to ask me?" He blurted. "What?" "To the wedding," he added, meeting her eyes assertively. "You asked everyone else to be your date, but you didn't ask me. I just want to know why." Hailey's brain was starting to short-circuit. "Uh — well, I thought about it. I definitely thought about it, but I wasn't sure if it was your thing." "We face bullets everyday, Hailey," he smirked. "It's just a date to a wedding. If you want me to go, I'll go." He was clearly leaving her an opening, and Hailey wasn't stupid. He obviously wanted her to say it out loud; say that she wanted him to go. "I want you to go," she said definitively, meeting his eyes. It wasn't often they did things outside of work, except go get a drink, so this was new territory for both of them. But they've been partners for years, and if there was anyone Hailey trusted to accompany her to such an event, it was Jay. An excited smile broke out over Jay's features. "Great! Text me all the details. I'm excited." "Yeah," Hailey answered with a soft smile, "Me too." Jay nodded his head, stuffing his hands into his front pockets. "Okay, well that's all I really wanted to say," he replied, his excited smile fading into a sheepish grin. "I'll see you tomorrow then. Drive safe, Hailey." Hailey could feel her insides melting and it was merely over the fact that he said 'drive safe'. She wanted to hit herself, but that would just make her look crazy. "Yeah, you too. Night Jay." She watched him walk away, completely aware of the butterflies trying to escape under her ribcage. God, he was going to be the death of her. 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛 Raquel was delighted when Hailey informed her she was bringing a date. She was even more ecstatic when she found out it was Jay; Hailey ignored the "I told you so!" Instead, she busied herself with finding the perfect dress for the occasion. She wasn't one for fancy dresses or fancy events (usually she had her blues to wear to fancy events), so choosing a dress proved to be challenging. She could only assume that Jay was going to blow them all away with his suit, because he was already naturally breathtaking. That man in a suit? Lord help them all. Hailey ended up choosing a burgundy dress she hadn't worn in ages. It was tucked in the back of her closet, but when she pulled it out, she knew it was perfect. It was a floor length gown, with cutouts above the hips and a long slit up the side, and if she was being completely honest, she knew it would look amazing on her. Plus, she had to compete with Jay somehow. Hailey already looked fancy enough with her dress. And she wasn't one for hair and makeup, so she kept her curls natural and applied a decent layer of mascara. She was attempting to distract herself from the unsettling feeling in the pit of her stomach; it was almost time for Jay to meet at her house, and she was unbelievably nervous. It seemed to work because as she was pulling on one of her block heels, the doorbell rang. Swearing, Hailey hobbled to the front door, attempting to not step on her dress. She hastily opened the door and headed straight for the stairs so she could sit and put on her other heel. "Hey!" She yelled out when her back was to him. "Shit, sorry," she mumbled as she stepped on her dress and nearly fell up the stairs. "I just need to put on my shoe and I'll be ready, I promise!" When she didn't hear an immediate reply for him, she glanced up. Jay had one foot through the threshold of the door, but his gaze was solely focused on her. His jaw was slightly open, and his green eyes were wider than usual. He seemed as if he was staring off into space, but he was staring at her. In any other circumstance, Hailey would have averted her gaze nervously. However, once she caught sight of how he looked in his black suit, she couldn't look anywhere else. He looked captivating in every way possible; she could see his white dress shirt peeking out from under the lapels of his jacket, and her gaze travelled down his body all the way down to his dress shoes. God, he looked gorgeous. "Hailey," her name dropped from his lips in a ghost of a breath; Jay didn't realize he had even said it until her eyes snapped up to meet his. "You look amazing." She knew she was blushing before she could even feel the heat in her cheeks. So, she looked back down at her hands where they were fastening the claps on her heel. "Thanks," she mumbled. "You look great too. You clean up nice." "Thanks!" When she looked up, he was smiling proudly. "You ready to go?" Hailey nodded her head, standing back up and grabbing her clutch. "I am ready!" She followed him through the door and locked it. Turning back to face him, she stopped and said fondly, "By the way, thank you for doing this. I don't know if I've thanked you already, but I really appreciate this." The bright smile that formed on Jay's lips brought butterflies into her stomach. "Of course, Hailey. The thought of an open bar is nice, but just getting to look at you in that dress all night is reward enough." Out of all the things she was expecting him to say, that was definitely not one of them. She was so thrown off her game, that she managed to trip over her own feet. He easily grabbed her arm because he was smooth as hell, and Hailey truly hated he was using that to his advantage and to her demise. "You alright?" Hailey pulled away from him to make her way to the passenger side of his truck before he did something ridiculous like open her door. “Yeah, of course,” she brushed off his concern. “It’s been a while since I wore heels.” “Well, you look great in them.” Hailey huffed, observing him as he started the drive over to the venue. “Okay, you have to stop.” “What? Stop what?” “You have to stop complimenting me.” She was expecting him to look sheepish or mildly apologetic, but when she spared a glance in his direction, he was smirking wildly. She didn't have to explain; Jay knew. The venue was close by. It was an outdoor wedding; Hailey peered over to the side where there was a rustic looking arch, complete with delicate flowers, placed at the end of a bed of flowers. There were elegant white chairs spread out amongst the ground, and Hailey could see a number of guests had already taken their seats. Over to the other side, was a multitude of tables decorated beautifully in white and silver aesthetic colours. There was also a dance floor in between all the tables, and a stage where instruments were neatly laid out. "This place looks fantastic," Jay commented in awe, "Your friend did an amazing job planning." Hailey nodded in agreement. “She really did.” Before Hailey got the chance to do anything else, she was stopped by a hand on her elbow. “Hailey? Hailey Upton?” She turned to see Jake Patterson; he also attended the academy at the same time Hailey and Raquel, and god, she couldn't remember the last time she saw him. They had run in different circles, mostly because Hailey liked to keep to herself, whereas Jake was more of an entertainer type. She remembered him as energetic and slightly chaotic, and looking at him now, she could see why. "Holy shit! It's been a minute!" Jake greeted her, pulling her in for a hug before Hailey even knew what was happening. "How have you been? Where are you working now? What's new with you? Tell me everything!" Hailey merely blinked, overwhelmed by all the questions. To her left, Jay snickered and earned Jake's attention. "Shit, man. I'm so sorry. I'm Jake, Hailey and I went to the academy together!" Jay extended his hand to meet Jake's in a firm handshake. "It's no problem. I'm Jay, Hailey's partner." "Oh!" Jake's eyebrows reached nearly up into his hairline. "That's awesome! How long have you two been together?” Hailey’s brows furrowed and she glanced at Jay quickly. It took her a moment, but she understood what Jake was getting at. “Oh — no, Jake, that’s not—” Jake’s attention was pulled elsewhere when someone came up behind him and clapped him on the shoulder. They promised to get him a drink from the bar and Jake’s eyes lit up. “It was nice to see you again, Hailey!” He nodded at Jay before he hurried off. “Did he—” Jay nodded. “I think so.” Hailey couldn't help but stifle a laugh as she met Jay's eyes with a shake of the head. Neither of them addressed the issue any further as they went on about their night, quickly finding their table after catching up with a few other friends. Being the first to arrive at their table bought a flock of others to follow their lead as the seats slowly began filling up, including the ones around them. "Bride or groom?" Both Hailey and Jay's heads snapped up at the sound of another woman speaking in their general direction. "Bride," Hailey smiled in response as she shook the hand of the woman before her. "I was in the academy with Raquel, actually. What about you?" "My husband is the groom's cousin — speaking of my damn, husband — where is he?" The woman craned her neck around in search for the man who clearly, was nowhere to be found as she settled down in her seat. "Well, at least you can keep tabs on your husband, right?" "Well actually —" "Oh! Richard! There you are! Sorry, dear — talk later? It was lovely meeting you!" For the second time that night, Hailey and Jay turned to look at each other, this time stifling a laugh at the apparent ridiculousness of the concept that they could be in any way romantically involved. Many thoughts were bouncing around in Hailey’s head but she pushed them all aside when the organ started playing and the flower girl and ring bearer started making their way down the aisle. Hailey wasn’t usually an emotional person, and she really had no idea how to react at a wedding, considering she hadn’t been to many, but she couldn’t held the proud smile accompanied by the tears that filled her blue eyes. She watched Raquel walk down the aisle with an almost bursting sense of awe, and she couldn’t be any happier for her friend. When she sat back down, she hastily wiped away the tear that escaped. She wasn’t expecting Jay to notice, but he was an observant detective, so of course he did. He hesitantly grabbed her hand and laid them in her lap. He gave her the opportunity to pull away if she wanted to, but when she looked up at him with a grateful smile, he relaxed in her grip. The ceremony was short and sweet; the reception to follow was the real party. Hailey and Jay were sat at a table with numerous other young couples, most of whom Hailey didn’t recognize. She saw the odd familiar face from back in the day but for the most part, Raquel was right; she hardly knew anyone there. Which is why she was more grateful than ever that Raquel forced her to bring someone, and that Jay was more than willing to accompany her. “So, how long have you two been together?” Hailey turned her head to meet the gaze of the friendly looking blonde to her left. The majority of her table had left to the dance floor or to mingle, but the blonde stayed in her seat while her partner chatted with another man who stopped by their table. “Oh,” Jay chuckled, deciding to intervene. “We actually—”
But frankly, Hailey found it hilarious that somehow, they’d been mistaken for a couple three times that night. So, what was the harm in having a little fun with it? Hailey turned to intertwine her arm with Jay’s and she stared up at him with fluttering eyelashes. Her actions seemed to cut him off mid sentence, and he looked down at her as if she’d gone insane. “Two years,” Hailey replied, leaning her cheek against Jay’s bicep and returning the blonde’s perky smile. She hadn’t gone undercover in a long time, and this gave her a little taste of what she’d been missing. “I’m Hailey, this is Jay.” Jay still looked bewildered, but he plastered on a smile to hide his confusion. “I’m Spencer, nice to meet you both!” She replied cheerily. “Sorry if I sound nosy, but you two are just so adorable! How did you meet?” Hailey glanced up at Jay, throwing him a tiny smile that only he could see. “You want to answer that, babe?” Jay’s eyes widened for a fraction of a second before he composed himself. “Uh, no babe, this is all you.” “Okay,” Hailey giggled, pulling away from him and facing Spencer. She stayed close to his side and even went as far as to grab his hand as she spoke. “I used to be a detective in robbery-homicide. I found him messing with my crime scene so naturally, I had to rip him a new one.” Spencer’s blue eyes were sparkling in excitement. “Feisty! So, not love at first sight?” “Actually, it was my crime scene,” Jay interjected, finally feeling comfortable enough to step into his character. He shot a smirk at Hailey, who raised her eyebrows. “Plus, you were late. Finders keepers.” Hailey scoffed. “That’s definitely not how it works. And like I said before, it was a robbery and there was a homicide; therefore, my scene.” “But it was a highly important case, so the commissioner wanted Chicago’s most elite unit to take over the case,” Jay shot back, eyes twinkling in amusement. Spencer’s gaze was jumping from Hailey to Jay, giggling at their banter. “And that meant me. Sorry, babe.” Hailey’s jaw dropped. She started this as a game, but Jay was here to win. Hailey turned back to Spencer with pursed lips. "Joke's on him because his boss recruited me a day later." "So, you two work together?" "We're partners," Jay explained, "She always had my six, and now she has my heart." Hailey choked on her glass of champagne, and one look at Jay's smirk, she knew he was just trying to mess with her now. He really drove it home when he stretched his arm along the back of her chair, fingers lingering on her bare shoulders. "That is absolutely adorable," Spencer cooed. Her eyes flickered up behind Jay. "Raquel! Caden! Congratulations, I'm so happy for you two!" Hailey turned to look behind her, spotting Raquel and her new husband. Immediately, Raquel's eyes dropped to Jay and Hailey's intertwined hands and an instant smirk made it's way to her lips. "Thanks, Spencer! I see you've met my friend Hailey." "And her boyfriend Jay!" Spencer tacked on with an excited smile; Hailey wanted to die at Raquel's amused expression. "They're the sweetest."
"Aren't they?" Raquel replied, trying but failing to hide the slight sarcasm in her tone. "I'm Raquel, it's nice to officially meet you, Jay." Jay happily shook her hand, moving onto her husband next. "I've heard so much about you! And congratulations on getting married, it's a beautiful wedding." "Thanks, man," Caden responded, holding onto Raquel's hand. "We need to finish the rounds. But thank you both so much for coming!" "Thanks, babe," Raquel said, leaning down to press a kiss to Hailey's cheek. "You owe me a conversation later!" She whispered. As they walked away, Jay looked at Hailey with soft eyes. "I think it's time for a drink. What do you think?" "I think it's time for a bottle," Hailey muttered, but turned to Spencer with a small smile. "We'll be back soon. Nice to meet you!" As they walked to the bar, Jay placed a low hand on the small of Hailey's back. "You want to tell me what that was all about?" Hailey ignored him until she successfully asked the bartender for a gin and tonic for her and a rum and coke for Jay. "I thought it was funny we kept getting mistaken for a couple, and I thought we could mess around with it for a bit. I wasn't expecting Raquel to show up." At his questioning expression, she continued. "Now she's going to be all I told you so and I'm going to have to hear about it for ages." "Why is she going to say 'I told you so'?" "Because she originally wanted me to bring the guy I was seeing as my date. She thought it was you because you're all over my Instagram," Hailey admitted. Jay nodded his head quizzically, a slow smile spreading across his face. "You always did like to post beautiful things." Hailey's eyes narrowed and without a second thought, she punched him in the shoulder. "That was gross, please stop." Their attention was brought back to the front when the MC announced it was time for all the single ladies to gather on the dance floor to catch the bouquet. Jay and Hailey watched as a swarm of ladies took up the entirety of the dance floor, and when Hailey didn't move, Jay shot her a curious glance. "Go on, Hails. It's your time to shine." Hailey turned to him with an incredulous expression. "I'm sorry, but do I look like the bouquet-catching type? No, thank you." Jay held his hands up in defence and turned back to the crowd. The ladies had backed up so much, they were only a few feet from where Jay and Hailey stood at the bar. The MC counted it down, and Raquel threw her bouquet on three. At the last second, Jay placed his hand on Hailey's back and shoved her forward, straight into the group of ladies who savagely fought each other for the bouquet. But as luck would have it, it landed perfectly in Hailey's unsuspecting arms. Hailey whirled around to glare angrily at Jay, but was distracted by all the congratulations from the other ladies. Raquel smirked wildly in Hailey's direction and held up her glass in cheers. Hailey really wanted to die now. A nudge from Jay's right tore his gaze away from Hailey's blushing figure. "Guess that's as bold of a hint as any, isn't it?" An older man, cradling a glass of whiskey, commented while glancing at Hailey. "You thinking of popping the question?" Jay instantly paled. "Oh, no. It's — it's too early for that." As he looked on at Hailey speaking to Raquel, he realized it wouldn't actually be the worst thing in the world for this relationship to be completely authentic, because honestly, it felt much too real to argue against it any longer. "Maybe one day." "That was ballsy, Halstead," Hailey hissed when she finally made her way back. "I have half a mind to shove this bouque—" "Dance with me." Hailey stopped, blinking in surprised. "What?" "Dance with me," Jay repeated, shrugging like it was nothing. He placed his now empty glass back on the bar and took Hailey's hand to guide her to the dance floor. His hand settled on her waist while hers hung onto his shoulder, while simultaneously holding onto her bouquet. "I was just thinking." "Yeah?" Hailey hummed. "About what?" Jay pulled her closer so he could look over her shoulder as he spoke his next few words. "Someone asked me if I was planning on proposing soon, after you caught the bouquet." He almost laughed when Hailey stumbled and accidentally stepped on his foot. "But the idea didn't totally horrify me." "Jay, what are you saying?" Hailey pulled away to look at Jay; his words were only confusing her even more. "I think you're beautiful and I always have. I think I've known for a while but I couldn't bring myself to mess up another partnership. I like you, Hailey. And to be honest, I was really glad Adam wasn't available to come with you tonight, because I don't think I would've been able to keep my cool. I like you, Hailey, and I'd really like to take you out on a date. A real date." Hailey expected many things from tonight, but a full-blown confession from Jay I-Don't-Talk-About-My-Feelings-Ever Halstead, was definitely not one of them.
"I — I would love that." A wide smile spread across Jay's features. "By the way, it was totally my crime scene." "Oh, shut up, Halstead."

26 Kisses - Upstead
Summary: Twenty-Six times Jay and Hailey kissed for the first time. (Ft. lots of characters finding them in compromising positions...)
Warnings: fluff, angst, several declarations of love…(it’s also like 10,000 words, sorry lol)
Requested: No
…
A - Accident
Jay sat next to Hailey on a barstool at Molly’s, they were near the back with his brother and Kevin, who were engrossed in their own conversation. Every so often Hailey would laugh at something one of them said and completely capture Jay’s attention.
Hailey snuck glances at her partner as she sipped her beer, he looked more handsome than normal and Hailey was convinced that it was his carefree attitude. And the fact that he was in a situation to constantly harass his brother.
“Right Hailey?” Kevin asked from across the table, pulling her out of her trance.
Hailey’s head snapped from Jay to him, “Hmm?”
Kevin laughed, “I told Will that Jay never sits at his own desk, he’s always at yours. I was asking for confirmation.”
Hailey smirked as Will laughed, “Oh yeah, always.”
Jay rolled his eyes, leaning down to whisper something along the lines of “you like it” to Hailey, but at the exact same time, she turned her head to look at him, causing their lips to meet for just a moment. Both jumped back in surprise. Will and Kevin looked at each other and then at the pretty much couple, fighting the urge to burst out laughing.
Jay searched Hailey’s face for any look or regret, finding none, he leaned down and captured her lips with his. “Woah,” Kevin said, dragging out the middle while Will covered his mouth in surprise. Hailey wrapped her arms around his neck, completely forgetting that their friends were sitting right next to them.
When the two finally pulled away, Hailey blushed, seeing several peoples eyes on her. Jay hopped off his stool, pulling Hailey with him. “We’re getting out of here.” He said, throwing a twenty on the table.
Will smirked and waved at the pair, “Bye bye, baby brother.”
B - Bears
“Wooooooo!” Adam screamed, jumping out of his chair. The Bears had just scored another touchdown against the Saints and were ahead by 6. The whole unit was there, Intelligence had worked a case involving one of the owner’s families and had been given endzone tickets for the upcoming game.
That’s how Hailey ended up sandwiched between Jay and Vanessa in the second quarter of the game. Now, Hailey loved Chicago and their sports teams just as much as the next girl, but her partner was some sort of psycho. Everytime one of their players was holding the ball, Jay would look over at her, grinning wide. Inversely, if the referee was anywhere close to defending the other team, the strew of curse words was never ending.
Before she knew it, it was halftime and the screens were playing those corny Dr. Pepper commercials. Hailey pulled out her phone, checking her email and then scrolling through facebook. Suddenly there was a scream beside her and the crowd erupted, Hailey jumped out of her skin, looking at Vanessa. “What’s wrong.” Hailey was surprised to find her best friend grinning ear to ear.
“Look.” She said, gesturing to the jumbo-trons. Hailey raised to gaze to the massive screams and felt her heart stop. There was a giant heart around her and Jay, with the words Kiss Cam above it. The yelling around her got louder, meaning the rest of the unit was now aware of her predicament.
Jay cleared his throat beside her, smirking as she looked at him with wide eyes. He pointed to the screens, “Come on Hailey, the fans want it.”
“Jay-” Before she could say no, his lips were on hers. Hailey’s brain literally stopped working and all the screaming fans around them just faded away. Jay’s hand was resting on her cheek and she grabbed his shoulder to pull him closer. The hoots and hollers started and Hailey blushed, only then remembering that they were in an arena with a hundred thousand other people, including their unit…
Everyone around them was laughing, along with Jay whose eyes never left hers, “I think it’s safe to say that we all want to be invited to that wedding.” The announcer says and Jay smirks, ignoring all of the screaming around him and attaching his lips to Hailey’s again.
C - Coffee
Hailey rubbed her eyes as she leaned over the pot of black liquid, she was on her fifth, maybe sixth cup of the day and at this point she was wondering if it was even doing anything. She absentmindedly poured it into a large mug, not even bothering to add any cream or sugar, it was going to taste terrible either way. She turned around to head back to her desk, but instead she collided with a wall.
“Woah.” Just kidding, it was Jay. He jumped back as the mug hit the floor, the contents of it all over Jay’s shirt. The glass shattered and flew everywhere, causing tears to well up in Hailey’s eyes. She was exhausted and every time she moved she made more work for herself.
Hailey sniffled, “I’m so sorry Jay.” She said, grabbing a paper towel off the counter behind her, she pressed it to his stomach, attempting to ignore his rock hard abdomen under the thin material of the shirt.
Jay fought the urge to chuckle, as sweet as it was for Hailey to try and clean him up, he was drenched and her one paper towel was doing nothing. “Hailey, it’s fine.” He said smiling.
Hailey looked up at him and smiled, “Really?” She was a mess, she hadn’t slept for more for a few hours in days and it was getting to her. Her brain felt like absolute mush.
“Yeah, of course…” Jay said cautiously, eyeing his partner. She looked like a zombie, a beautiful zombie, but a zombie nonetheless. “Hailey, maybe you should go home.” He said, they were the only two left besides Voight, who had been locked in his office for hours.
“I can’t, I haven’t had time to do any paperwork in days.” She sighed, leaning against the counter. “I’m so behind.”
Jay took a step forward, placing his hand on her shoulder. “Leave your files on my desk and I will finish up your paperwork.”
Hailey felt her eyes well up again, “Jay, no, you hate paperwork.”
Jay just shrugged and gave her a small smile, “You need sleep Hailey, I’d have to redo it anyway.” Hailey rolled her eyes at his comment, of course Jay could make fun of her at any moment.
“Thank you.” Hailey said, reaching up and wrapping her arms around his neck. At first, Jay was shocked, tensing under her touch, but eventually he relaxed, reveling in how it felt to have Hailey’s face buried in his neck. Hailey breathed in heavily, she didn’t want to move, but she knew if she didn’t there was a very high chance she would fall asleep right then and there.
Hailey pulled away, stopping to look up at him. Jay’s gaze dropped to her lips before finding her eyes again, he leaned end slowly, gently capturing her lips with his. It was slow and sweet and completely innocent, but it was perfect. Hailey pulled away, letting her eyes linger closed. She bit her lip, feeling her cheeks heat up. Jay reached out and brushed a stray strand of blonde hair behind her ear, “Call me when you get home, okay?”
Hailey nodded, walking towards the door. She turned to face him with a bright smile on her face. “Goodnight Jay.”
“Goodnight Hailey.”
D - Drunk
Hailey leaned against her kitchen counter, she was pretty gone and wasn’t stopping anytime soon. It had been a tough few days, the case involving way too many dead kids. She was so upset that when she got home she didn’t even bother to wait for Jay and the six pack he promised. She went straight for the whiskey.
The doorbell rang and Hailey shuffled to it, revealing a very sexy man on the other side. Hailey leaned against the door, smiling a lot more flirty than usual. “Hey.”
“Hi,” Jay said cautiously, he had never seen Hailey like this before, she was usually able to hold her liquor. He dropped the six pack on the counter and slipped onto one of the stools underneath the island. “You been drinking without me?”
Hailey smirked, bringing her hand up to show a tiny amount, “A little bit.”
“Sure,” Jay said, laughing.
Hailey sat on the stool next to him, her inhibitions nowhere to be found. All she could think about was the man standing in front of her, whose biceps were practically bursting out of his grey v-neck. Hailey reached out and traced the end of the sleeve, not noticing the goosebumps that appeared on his skin. “You should wear these more often.” Hailey said.
This time it was Jay’s turn to smirk, “Really?” He asked, “You like?” Hailey nodded confidently and Jay chuckled, “Good to know.”
Hailey sighed, setting her head on her hand on the counter. “I like you, Jay.” She said.
Jay sucked in a breath, staring at his very intoxicated partner. He couldn’t believe the words he was hearing. “I like you too, Hailey.” Hailey wasted no time launching herself into his arms, pressing her lips to his. Much to her dismay, Jay pulled away. He reached out and brushed a strand of blonde hair behind her ear. “Not right now, Hailes. I want you to remember this.” Hailey nodded, sighing as he pressed his lips to her forehead. “Let’s get you to bed.”
E - Everyday
“Hailey!” Jay shouted, following his partner into the locker room.
Hailey spun around, glaring at her partner. “What?” She spit.
“What is wrong with you?” He asked.
Hailey laughed dryly. “What is wrong with me? What is wrong with you?” Jay stood there dumbfounded and it only made Hailey more angry. Hailey’s jaw dropped, she couldn’t find the words to express how she felt. “Jay! You literally just jumped in front of a moving car!”
“You were the one standing in front of a moving car!” Jay yelled back.
Hailey huffed, “This isn’t about me!”
“This is all about you, I shoved you out of the way.” Jay snapped, “And you are the one making a big deal of it!”
“I never asked you to save me, Jay!” Hailey growled, running her hands through her hair. “You put yourself in harm's way everyday, do not put that on me!”
Jay scoffed, “You didn’t have to ask me, Hailey, I will always save you.” He said, rushing forward.
Hailey took a step forward, leaving very little space between them, “Well stop.”
“No.” Jay said, standing his ground. Hailey wants to be furious, she has to watch him be reckless with his own life everyday, but the thought that it was all for her was making her knees weak. Jay stared her down, his nostrils flaring. “I’m gonna kiss you.”
“Good.” That was all it took to send his lips crashing into hers, Jay’s arms wrapped around Hailey’s waist to keep her standing, the force of him knocking her off her balance. Hailey wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him even closer. She was going into overdrive, the feeling of his lips on hers was all consuming. Hailey leans back, catching her breath as Jay presses his forehead against hers. “I think we should do that again.”
“Oh definitely.”
F - Flannel
Their thing that works always works. That’s why it works. Each of them can wake up the next morning and be able to do their job, leaving the baggage in the trash with the bottle. But today, the thing that works was not working in Hailey’s favor.
Hailey woke up with a groan, immediately blinded by the light shining from the window. It was disorienting to say the least, she had blackout curtains in her bedroom, so there shouldn’t be light. It took her until she was sitting up to notice that she wasn’t in her bedroom, she was in a living room. And not just anyone’s living room, he was in Jay Halstead’s living room. She looked around, getting a grip on her surroundings when her eyes fell on a passed out Jay at the other end of the couch. She smiled to herself, he looked peaceful to say the least, mouth slightly open and his usual worried face was relaxed.
She picked her phone up off the table, almost dropping it when she saw the time. “No, no.” She said frantically, hitting Jay’s leg. “Jay get up, we’re late.” She ran around the small apartment gathering her things.
“What?” Jay asked, waking with a start.
Hailey turned to him, “It’s 7:30, we are so late.”
“Shit.” Jay said jumping up. He ran to his room throwing on new clothes and brushing his teeth. He tosses a flannel at Hailey when he enters the room, she gives him a look. “Hailey, you can’t show up late in yesterday’s clothes.”
Hailey nods at him, “Yeah, thanks,” before speed walking past him and into his bedroom to change. The button up shirt was way too big, but Hailey tucked in the bottom and rolled up the sleeves, hoping that it wouldn’t be too obvious that it was Jay’s.
Jay waited patiently by the door with two cups of coffee, but he almost dropped them when he saw her. Hailey always looked breathtaking, but even more so in his clothes. “Ready?” He asked, and with a silent nod the two bid goodbye and headed to the district in separate cars.
Twenty minutes later, Kim sat at her desk watching the clock. It was almost eight and Jay and Hailey were still MIA, which wasn’t normal for either of them. She was just about to call Jay when he came bounding up the stairs to the bullpen. He went straight for his desk. Not five minutes later, Hailey walked up the steps, giving Kim a kind smile as she walked by.
Kim returned it, obviously, but she couldn’t help but notice that Hailey’s shirt was way too big for her and that she had definitely seen it before...on a certain detective in their uit. A lightbulb went off in her brain and she had to hide her expression. Jay and Hailey were late together. It finally happened.
Kim jumped up, “Jay, can I borrow you for a second?”
“Yeah,” Jay replied, following her into an interrogation room. “What’s up?”
“Hailey Upton is wearing your shirt.” She said.
“Ki-”
“Finally! My God, what took you so long? We’ve been watching the two of you make puppy dog eyes at each other for years? I’m so happy for you guys, Jay you are so lucky, she is so into you.” Kim rushed out, a big smile on her face.
Jay stood there in shock, “Kim, nothing happened.”
Kim scoffed, “Sure.”
“No. Nothing happened, she fell asleep on my couch last night.” The smile on Kim’s face fell and she turned read.
“Shit.” She mumbled, “Forget all of this.”
Jay made his way back to his desk, but the only thing he could think about was Kim’s words. Could Hailey really be into him? After a whole day of not being able to focus, Jay followed Hailey into the locker room, he couldn’t take it anymore.
“Do you have a different shirt?” He asked, as soon as they were out of sight.
Hailey turned slowly, “Um, I can ask Kim for one. I’m sorry, I promise I’ll give it back-”
“No. Shit. Hailes, I’m sorry.” He said, rubbing his forehead. “I just, I just haven’t been able to think straight all day.” Hailey felt her breath catch in her throat at his confession, he took a step forward, watching her closely. “You, in my shirt, my mind is mush.”
Hailey thought her mind was mush, Jay had never been so direct with her before and she had to admit, she liked it. “Jay-”
“Can I please, please kiss you?”
“You better.” That was all it took for Jay to pounce, Hailey’s back hitting the locker behind her as his mouth molded into hers. Her hands found his hair as he began to drag his lips across her jawline, finding the spot right behind her ear. Hailey fought the urge to moan, trying to remember that their teammates were just down the hall. Hailey grabbed his face and guided his lips back to hers, kissing him passionately.
They broke apart when they heard a shriek behind them, “Dammit Halstead, I knew you were full of shit!” Kim yelled, pointing at them, causing both of them to laugh. Kim backed away angrily before throwing a wink over her shoulder at Hailey. Hailey smirked, before attaching her lips to Jay’s once again.
G - Girl’s Night
Hailey sat on her couch with Vanessa and Kim, it had been a long week and the girls decided that they needed a night of wine and romcoms. They were two bottles deep and a movie and a half in, and as soon as the sad music starts, Hailey regrets choosing A Walk to Remember. 10 minutes ago she thought she needed a good cry and a break from happy endings, she changed her mind.
“What?” Vanessa screams, standing up. “No.” She chucks a piece of pizza at the screen as Hailey and Kim laugh, they forgot that Vanessa had never seen this movie. Vanessa collapses back down on the couch and looks to Hailey, eyes filled with tears. “She has cancer?”
Hailey frowns, wiping tears of her own, “Aww sweetie, come here.” Vanessa tucks herself into Hailey’s side as a blubury Kim joins them. The three (normally very intimidating women) turned their direction back to the TV and watch Jamie run away from Landon.
As the movie goes on, Vanessa only cries harder, along with Hailey and Kim, who are surprised to find that no matter how many times they watch the movie, they will still sob the entire time. They make it to the part when Landon is about to propose, but before he can get the words out, the doorbell rings. Hailey jumps up and pauses the TV, wiping under her eyes and grabbing the third empty bottle. “I’ll get it.”
The door swings open to reveal Jay. “Hailey I-Holy shit, what's wrong?” He asks, taking in her appearance. He places his hands on her shoulders, searching for any sign of injury.
Hailey shakes her head and sniffles, “Nothing. Just a really sad movie.” She says, dragging out the y. “What are you doing here?” Hailey asks, looking over his shoulder to see Adam and Kevin standing by a car she doesn’t recognize.
“Um, well. I lost a bet and now I have to do something.” Jay explained, shifting nervously.
Hailey gave him a bored look, “Do what?” Before she could ask again, he leaned down and pressed his lips to hers, she could taste the alcohol on him and she knew that her nose was probably running, but she didn’t care. As soon as it happens, it’s over and Jay backs away slowly.
“I-I’ll see you tomorrow Hailes.” He says, tripping over her front step in his attempt to look all cool and stoic. Hailey giggles, touching her fingers to her still tingling lips.
As soon as she shuts the door she turns back to Vanessa and Kim who were most definitely watching them from the couch. Hailey grins and all three girls begin to scream, jumping up and down together in her kitchen. Out of breath, Hailey talks over the excitement, “Okay, I’m done with this depressing movie. We’re watching Say Yes to the Dress.”
H - Halloween
Jay sat on a barstool at Molly’s, it was packed with first responders, all of them dressed in various costumes. It was October 31st and Jay was dressed as a baseball player, against his will he might add, Adam and Kevin had convinced him to do a group costume. Kevin was a football player and Adam was wearing a way too detailed hockey uniform.
He was one beer down and waiting for a certain blonde to have any more, when Hailey was around he had to pace himself. The ringing of the bell above the door captured Jay’s attention, when he saw who walked in, his jaw dropped to the floor. It was Kim, Vanessa and Hailey, but he missed the first two girls completely. All he could see was Hailey.
She was wearing a tight, black skirt and a long sleeve, black crop top. Her blonde hair was falling over her shoulders in perfect waves and Jay was pretty sure there was glitter on her face, something that he never thought he would see. He fought hard to keep his eyes in a strictly professional place, but they wandered down her frame and were glued to the thigh holster on her right leg. Damn. He shifted in his seat, regretting how tight his pants were.
Hailey’s gaze met his and she smiled, immediately making her way to him. “Hey.” She said as she reached the bar.
Jay grinned, choking out a, “Hi.”
Hailey laughed, looking him up and down. “Nice costume.”
“You don’t look so bad yourself.” Jay smirked, causing Hailey to blush.
Hailey felt her cheeks heat up, she looked down at her skimpy skirt and then over to her friends who she was matching, her smile returning. “It was V and Kim’s idea, Charlie’s Angels.” Hailey posed against the bar, then did a quick spin. She was beginning to enjoy the nervous look on her partners face.
Jay swallowed hard as Hailey spun in front of him, she looked drop dead gorgeous and he was very thankful that he had only had one beer. Tipsy Jay would not be able to hold his tongue right now. He looked her up and down once again, this time making it way more obvious. “I like it.”
The next few hours went by impossibly slow, and Jay spent the majority of the time watching Hailey from across the room. He had a few more beers and it was safe to say that his flirt game was strong. He was making Hailey laugh that he never had before and if he had a dollar for everytime she had playfully touched his arm, he could get them a hotel room at the Ritz Carlton for the night.
It was almost midnight when Jay made his way across the crowded bar to where Haily was sitting with Kevin and Vanessa. He stood behind her, earning a few smirks and some wiggling eyebrows from their friends. He placed his hand on her waist and she sucked in a breath. He lowered his lips to her ear, “You wanna get out of here?”
Hailey’s head swung around, nodding before jumping off the barstool, grabbing his hand and practically running out of Molly’s. Jay laughed as they were met with the crisp air, before he could even register what was happening, his back hit the cold brick wall and Hailey’s lips were on his. He grabbed onto her waist, pulling her impossibly closer. Hailey pressed her hands against his chest as she pushed further into him. Jay lowered his hands to rest on her hips “Jump.” He whispered before Hailey obliged. He wasted no time before spinning them around and pinning her to the wall. Jay trailed kisses down her neck, causing Hailey to throw her head against the wall.
The bell rang and Adam came waltzing out along with Kim, the two of them screaming at the sight just outside the bar. “Holy shit guys, get a room.” Kim said, covering her eyes.
Hailey and Jay untangled themselves to face their friends, “Took you long enough Halstead.” Adam winked, before pulling Kim away.
The two laughed before Jay pushed Hailey against the wall once again, smirking. “Where were we?”
I - I’d Follow You
Hailey moved around tirelessly, huffing at yet another failure to break free. “Hailey, breathe.” Jay said from beside her. Hailey rolled her eyes, struggling against the restraints once again. The irony was unreal, the two of them were chained up by their own handcuffs.
“Jay, don’t.” Hailey said, finally giving up and slumping into the cold ground. The two sat in silence for a while, listening for anything to give them a clue of where they were. Hailey thought back to how they even got into this situation. She was following a lead, following her gut more than anything and she had dragged Jay along. Now they were trapped in a basement, perfect. “I’m sorry.” Hailey said softly, they weren’t sure how much danger they were actually in, but if something happened to him, she would never forgive herself.
Jay sighed, smiling softly at his partner, “You have nothing to be sorry for, we’ll be fine. I’m sure the team is already looking for us.”
Hailey nodded, his words doing little to comfort her. She blinked back the tears in her eyes, she had been in this situation with Kim before and it almost ended badly, she couldn’t bear to lose Jay. “I shouldn’t have brought you.” She said.
“Hailey.” He said, wishing he could reach out and touch her. “You know I’d follow you anywhere. Stop blaming yourself.” Jay searched Hailey’s face for any sense of understanding, but she looked just as guilty as she did before.
“I know, we just have to get out of here.” She said, she was still recovering from his earlier statement. He had used her own words against her and she would be lying if she said it wasn’t working.
Jay nodded, “We will.” He stared into her eyes, slowly leaning in. Hailey didn’t know what possessed her, but she met him in the middle and pressed her lips to his. They scooted closer to each other, both very aware that their hands were out of play. Hailey leaned into his chest for balance, deepening the kiss.
Suddenly the door popped open, causing the two to break away from each other, but they stayed touching chests. “You guys good?” Adam called out.
Kevin approached from behind him, shining a flashlight on the two. He smirked, “Yeah, I think they’re good.”
J - Jealous
Jay knew it was irrational, he knew it was stupid. So much had changed but still, the sight of Hailey and Adam made him want to vomit. She was laughing in her loud and beautiful, belly laugh. Hand on his shoulder, hunched over into his bubble. Adam wasn’t much better, he was grinning at her as they continued on in their apparently hilarious conversation.
Jay took an angry sip of his beer, if he held the bottle any tighter it would probably break. He hated feeling like this, after all, he had no claim to Hailey. She was free to do whatever, or whoever, she wanted. Besides, his pouting was a mute point. Hailey had assured him that she and Adam were through, not to mention Kim was pregnant with his baby. He was just being psychotic, but it didn’t make it hurt any less.
He felt like his brain had transported itself back to the year before, to the night that Adam showed up at Hailey’s and he was so worried that he would think something of it. Really, he should have been worried that he didn’t. It was like the universe was against him and it was using Adam as a weapon.
Hailey looked up from her conversation and noticed a sollem looking Jay across the bar, she bid goodbye to Adam and booked it to her partner. He had moody Jay written all over him. “Hey, what’s up?” She asked, sliding onto the stool next to him.
“Nothing.” He said in a biting tone, glancing at her. He immediately softened when he saw a wave of hurt wash over her face. “I-I’m sorry. I’m just in a mood. I shouldn’t have snapped at you.”
Hailey nodded cautiously, Jay never intentionally hurt her feelings, but even if he did, he wasn’t great at apologies. “You okay?”
He took another swig of his beer, setting it down loudly. “I don’t know.” He said. Jay was pretty shocked at his own words, he was about as open as a bank vault, but tonight he didn’t have the energy to play tough guy. Honestly, he was feeling a little defeated (and sorry for himself).
“You wanna talk? My ‘reserved for Jay’ glass is clean.” She joked, offering him a small smile. They walked out together, Jay opting to ride with Hailey. Which happened once in a blue moon. Hailey fought the urge to check and see if he had a fever, not only was he letting her drive, but he was leaving his truck, his baby, in Molly's parking lot.
The drive was short and the pair raced up Hailey’s steps to escape the winter chill. Vanessa was undercover, so they had the place to themselves. Hailey immediately pulled out a bottle of whiskey, her partner looked like he needed it. She poured them each a glass and then leaned on the counter across from him. Before she can say anything, Jay word vomits across the counter. “Is there something going on between you and Adam?”
Hailey almost chokes on her whiskey. “Jay, are you serious? You know-”
“I need you to say it Hailey.” He says, standing and looking her in the eye. “I need you to say it.”
“There is absolutely nothing going on with me and Ruzek, we are just good friends.” Jay visibly relaxes and his reaction is not lost on Hailey.
Jay moves around the island to her. “I’m sorry,” there he goes again, “That wasn’t my place. It’s just, I don’t want you to be with him. I can’t stand the thought of you ever being with him.”
“Jay-”
“I’m not good at this Hailes, I know. I’m making a complete ass out of myself-” Hailey launches herself forward and cuts him off with a kiss, Jay catching her easily despite the shock. His eyebrows furrow as he runs his hands down her figure, only to wrap his arms around her waist to pull her closer to him. Soon they both come up for air and Jay beams. “I’m better than Ruzek, aren’t I?” He asks, wiggling his eyebrows.
Hailey smacks his chest before tucking herself into it, “Shut up.”
K - Kiss Me Slowly
Jay stared at Hailey across the patio, it was open mic night at Molly’s and the world had cursed him the guitarist after guitarist playing love song after love song. Of course, every stupid song made him think of her.
The next guy was up and a familiar parachute song started playing, Jay wanted the groan. His heart was racing as he watched Hailey make her way towards him, her blonde hair bouncing as she walked. “Hey stranger.” She said as she approached him.
“Hey.” He smiled.
Hailey motioned to the makeshift stage, “Some of these guys are pretty good.”
“Yeah.”
I can see you there in the city lights.
Jay watched how the glow from the fairy lights hit her face, making her shine brighter than normal.
14th floor, pale blue eyes, I can breathe you in.
He really could, it was like she was her oxygen and he was suffocating without her.
Two shadows standing by the bedroom door, no I could not want you more than I did right then.
He wanted her so bad, in every way possible. “Hailey?”
“Hmm?” She hummed, turning her attention back to him.
“Dance with me.” He said, standing and almost surprising himself. Hailey watched him cautiously, thinking that it was some cruel joke, but took his hand when his stature didn’t falter. He led them to a space near the fence, placing his hands on her waist and pulling her close as she gently rested her arms on his shoulders.
If this is something that you want, darling you don’t have to run. You don’t have to go.
They swayed back and forth, Hailey wrapping her arms around his neck and pressing her head to his chest, she could almost swear that his heart was beating faster.
Just stay with me.
She peaked up at him, only to find him smiling down at her.
Baby, stay with me.
They locked eyes, each searching the other for any possible misunderstanding.
Well I’m not sure what this is gonna be, but with my eyes clenched all I see, is the skyline, through the window. The moon above you and the streets below.
Jay reached out and ran the pad of his thumb over Hailey’s cheek, eyes darting all over her seemingly perfect face. She looked absolutely beautiful, she was the only girl he ever noticed.
Hold my breath as we’re moving in.
Hailey swore her heart stopped, the way he was looking at her made her feel like the only girl in the world. He dipped his head and if only she could bring herself to lean in…
Taste your lips and feel your skin.
Hailey placed her hand on his cheek.
When the time comes, baby don’t run.
Jay grinned and slowly leaned down, pressing his lips gently against hers.
Just kiss me slowly.
L - Love
“What were you going to say?”
Hailey stood there frozen, her momentum was lost. Everything that told her to pour her heart out had disappeared and all she wanted to do now was get as far away from him as possible. After all, that was easier, so much easier.
“Never mind, I’m going to pull the car around.” She said.
Jay felt his heart clench, he knew exactly what she was going to say and he felt it too. He was sick of tiptoeing around it. “What were you going to say, Hailey?”
Hailey stopped dead in her tracks, she had barely even made it to the doorway. “It’s not important Jay, really. It’s nothing.”
“It’s not nothing.” He groans, “Dammit Hailey, you don’t get to make me fall in love with you and then change your mind.”
“What?” Hailey asked quietly, she couldn’t believe what she was hearing, and by the look on his face, she wasn’t sure Jay knew what he was saying.
Jay feigned confidence, and maybe the pain meds were to blame, but there was no going back now. “I love you Hailey and I think you love me too, and if you don’t ten you should consider going undercover full time or getting an acting job because you are one hell of an actress-”
Hailey launched herself into his arms, careful not to hit his injured arm. She kissed him urgently, desperate for his touch. Jay held her close with his good arm, never wanting to let go. “I love you too.”
M - My Girlfriend
Jay held the roses tight in his hand as he made his way towards his truck, where his partner was waiting. He thought back to his statement just a few minutes earlier, “my girlfriend.” He wished.
He climbed in the truck and turned to Hailey who smirked at him. He handed her the flowers with a sigh and she grinned. “What a guy.” She teases. Jay chuckled under his breath, freezing when he felt warmth against his cheek, which he soon realized was from Hailey’s lips. Jay tensed, watching her blush in the rear view mirror.
That was the most intimate they had ever been, not that he was complaining. As surprised as he was at her actions, he shouldn’t have been. Hailey was a total badass, a badass with really soft lips. Jay turned to face her, eyes glancing from her lips to her eyes, attempting to read the room (or truck). After being confident that this was what she wanted too, Jay leaned in and captured her lips with his, arching completely over the seat.
Hailey placed her hand on the nape of his neck and played with the short hairs, pulling him even closer. Jay smiled into the kiss, pecking her one last time before pulling away. Hailey scrunched her nose and laughed, “Told you we were good together.”
N - Never
“Oh, come on Hailey!” Jay snapped, throwing the ping pong paddle on the table.
Hailey through her hands up in the air in surrender. “What?”
“You can’t let me win one game?” He groaned, “You can’t feed my ego even just a little bit?”
“Never.” Hailey smirked, leaning against the table.
Jay swallowed hard, she looked amazing and his self control was dwindling by the minute. Hailey felt the energy shift in the room and she pulled her bottom lip between her teeth. “Shit.” Jay mutters before stalking towards her and kissing her passionately. “Jump.” He whispered, before picking her jump. He turned so that Hailey was sitting on the ping pong table, trailing kisses down her neck. Hailey moaned, wrapping arms around his neck.
“Woah guys, other people play on that table.” Adam yelled from the doorway, putting a hand over his eyes.
Hailey laughed, pulling away and calling after him. “Yeah, but no one else wins!”
“Oh, I definitely just did.” Jay said, smiling down at her.
Hailey shook her head, “Nice try.”
O - Only Us
Jay pushed half the stuff off his desk, and then set Hailey down on it, never removing his lips from hers. Things had gotten heated quick and before he knew it he was unbuttoning Hailey’s dark green flannel and she was tugging at his own shirt. Jay pulled her hair slightly and Hailey gasped, causing him to stick his tongue in her mouth, tem fighting for dominance.
Before she knew it, Hailey’s shirt was somewhere else and her hair was pulled out of it’s normal ponytail. She was about to pull his shirt over his head when a door swung open next to them. Jay quickly pulled Hailey to his chest to cover her and the two were mortified to find Voight standing at the threshold of his door, they thought he had left.
He walked to the desk, dropped two sheets of paper down and then walked out of the bullpen. Hailey looked over her shoulder and saw that they were HR forms.
The two of them laughed hysterically, Hailey leaning her head against Jay’s chest. “Only us.”
P - Pizza
Jay let down the tailgate of the truck and jumped up on it, motioning for Hailey to follow. She did, but not quite as gracefully. Jay smirked at her once she landed next to him. “Short.” Hailey’s only response was smacking his arm and glaring at him.
Jay reached behind him and grabbed a pizza box, it was a pretty night and the two partners had decided that takeout from Bartoli’s and the night sky were the perfect combination. Hailey leaned back on her hands, looking up. “It’s pretty tonight.” She said.
“You know, this is the part in the movies where the guy unloads an unrealistic amount of knowledge about constellations.” Jay said before taking a bite out of a cheesy slice.
Hailey smirked, reaching to grab her own, “I’m listening.”
Jay shook his head as he swallowed. “Oh no, I’ve got nothing.” He said laughing, causing Hailey to roll her eyes.
“Damn, I was ready for you to go all Rom-Com on me.” Hailey took a bite, moaning. “God, this man makes the best pizza in the city. No, the country.”
Jay laughed to cover his choking, he was not ready for Hailey to moan like that, even if it was over pizza. “Y-yeah. The best.”
Hailey eyed her partner, “You good?”
“Great,” Jay said, giving her a genuine smile. He leaned against the side of the bed, just enjoying the view (of the stars, of course…).
They had been there a while, and somehow the two of them ended up sitting across from each other in the bed. Hailey had her leg leaning against Jay’s while they talked. It was anything too important, more just swapping stories and light hearted teasing. It was all very...comfortable.
Jay said something to make Hailey laugh, and he took note of the way her face lit up in the moonlight. He couldn’t look away. “Hailey.” He said, getting her attention.
“Hmm?”
“You look really pretty right now.” Jay said, crossing a line that neither had ever crossed.
Hailey laughed off her shock, attempting to hide her blush. She sat up straighter, “Nice try Halstead, but flattery will get you nowhere. The last slice is mine.” It her hurry to get out of the slightly uncomfortable situation, she tripped over his foot, catching herself on the side of the truck right above him.
Jay’s eyes bored into her as she stood hovered over him. Jay reached up and grabbed her face, bringing it down. The lips crashed together, it was fast and intense and all consuming. Hailey let herself fall into his lap, so that she was straddling him. She rested her hands on the nape of his neck, leaning into him. Jay gripped her thighs, pulling her impossibly closer.
A long while later, Hailey pulled away and whispered against his lips, “I’m still getting the last slice.”
Q - Quarantined...almost?
“Are you serious?”
“Positive.”
“Jay, that’s not funny.” Hailey said into the phone, Jay could almost hear her eye roll. “Just to clarify..your test was negative?”
“Yes Hailey.” He chuckled.
Hailey bit her lip, “Be there in ten.”
“I’ll be waiting.” And with that, the call ended.
Hailey practically ran out of her house, it had been a rough week and she was so excited to see her partner. The past month had been full of catching glances and flirty comments, Hailey felt like they were finally going somewhere, but of course, the shoe dropped. Jay was exposed to someone who tested positive for the virus and he was self quarantining until he got his results back, which after three days, was now.
Hailey had already decided that when she got to see him again, she was jumping him. No more excuses, she was making a move, but she never expected it to be so fast. She had prepared herself for him to be positive, and to not see him for at least two weeks. Let’s be real, that reality sucked.
The elevator ride upwas painfully slow and the controlled brisk walk to his door was even slower. By the time she reached his apartment it felt like time had stopped altogether. She knocked on the door and not five second later it swung open. Hailey took a deep breath and before Jay could even say hello, she kissed him. It was fast and urgent and very, very hot (according to Jay).
“Woah.” He said, smiling wide as the two finally came up for air. “What was that for?”
“Celebrating a negative covid test?”
Jay grabbed her hand and pulled her inside, shutting the door and pushing her up against it. “Looks like I need to get covid tested more often.”
R - Rollercoaster
“We drove all the way to Ohio for an amusement park?” Adam asked as the unit (minus Voight of course) stood in front of the gates of King’s Island.
Kim grinned, “Yes we did, this was one of my favorite places growing up and it is my birthday, so indulge me.”
“Yes ma’am.” Adam scoffed, following her and the rest of the team through security.
Hailey fell in step next to Jay as the two walked behind Vanessa and Kevin, who were trying to decipher the map. She had to admit, Hailey loved amusement parks: the thrill, the food, the extremely overpriced ponchos. She couldn’t hide her smile. “Your chipper today.” Jay said, glancing down at her
Hailey shrugged, “What can I say? I love a good roller coaster.”
“Then let’s go find one.”
About fifteen minutes later, the six of them were standing in line for the Beast, one of the most famous wooden coasters in the United States. “Just warning you guys, this thing beats you up worse than a bar fight.” Kim said as they wandered through the endless maze of turnstalls, finally catching up with all the other people in line.
“Good to know,” Kevin said, swallowing hard.
After waiting for almost an hour, they finally found themselves at the front of the line. Kim was practically jumping up and down as they boarded the train. Jay found himself next to Hailey and behind Vanessa and Kevin, who were behind Adam and Kim. “Excited?” Hailey asked.
Jay nodded, “Very.”
“Hey Ruz, what do I do if I don't fit in the seat?” Kevin asked, showing them all how his shoulders were too broad to fit between the indents.
“Kev, man, shut up.” Adam said and they all laughed as the car started to roll forward and around a sharp bend.
Hailey looked over to Jay as they were climbing the first hill, his face went from happy to not so rather quickly. “Jay, you good?”
Jay looked at Hailey with a panicked look in his eye, “You know how I have an irrational fear of needles?” He asked, breathing harder.
“Yeah…”
“Well add rollercoasters, also known as wooden death traps, to the list.” He rushed out, his grip tight on his lap bar.
Hailey stifled a laugh as they neared the top, “Jay, it’s going to be fine.” She said, placing a calm hand over his shaky one.
“We’re going to die Hailey.” He said and Hailey watching her partners’ face fill with fear as they toppled over the first hill. She grabbed his jaw and brought his lips to hers as their stomached bottomed out, they were both so lost in the moment that they completely missed the flash.
After the ride, they all walked down the twistly exit path and to the booth. Hailey was in the middle of a staring match with Jay when Vanessa screamed, “What the hell?” She pointed at the picture of Jay and Hailey locking lips on the screen.
“Finally!” Adam yelled, giving Kevin a high five.
KIm looked around at her friends, who were now berating their teammates. “You gotta love KIngs Island.”
S - Stakeout
“Truth or dare?” Hailey askes, leaning back in her seat.
Jay rolls his eyes, “What are we, 12?”
Hailey grins, “Yes.” Jay scoffs fidgeting in his seat. “Please. It’s been five hours, I need entertainment.” Jay looks at his exasperated partner, who is now pouting. Normally he would say no, but she looks so damn adorable.
“Fine.”
“Awesome,” She says, shifting her body to face him. “Truth or dare?”
“Truth.” He says quickly.
Hailey groans, “Lame.” Jay fakes a hurt expression. “Tell me a secret.”
Jay feigns interest, looking through the camera lens at the building they were keeping an eye on. “I’m afraid of needles.
“No shit.” Hailey deadpans. “Fine, I’ll give you another one...ideal first date?”
Jay laughs, “So we’re running with this whole twelve year old thing?”
“Just answer the question!”
“Bartoli’s,” Jay says, staring straight at her. “Some beer, a good ass pizza and a beautiful girl sitting across from me.”
Hailey stops breathing for a second, because for that second, and only that second, she let herself think that he was talking about her. “Cute.” She jokes.
Jay holds up his hands in surrender, “What can I say? I’m a hopeless romantic.” Hailey rolls her eyes, “Hey, you asked.”
“It’s your turn.”
“Truth or dare?”
“Dare.”
“I dare you to kiss me.” He says, not missing a beat.
Hailey swears her heart jumped out of her chest, “What?”
“I, dare you, to kiss, me.” He says, breaking it down.
“No.”
Jay chuckles nervously, “What do you mean, no?”
“I mean that you have to kiss me.” She smirks confidently and boy does he deliver. Jay wastes no time swooping down and planting one on her. Hailey squeaks, taken by surprise, but recovers quickly. She presses into him, letting her fingers trace his jawline. The two are forced apart by the sound of a car alarm.
Before jumping out of the car Jay winks at her, “I just found a much better way to pass the time.”
T - Truck
Jay pressed his lips to Hailey’s, gently at first, but then with more pressure. He found himself thanking God for her hair being down ( a rare occurrence) so he could tangle his hands in it. Hailey moaned against his mouth, leaning further into him and causing him to tug her over the center console and into his lap.
Hailey straddled him, fitting perfectly in between him and the steering wheel. She settled her hands at the base of his neck, kissing him passionately.
It wasn’t lost on either of them how perfect the moment was and how it was so fitting that their first kiss be in his truck. Their partnership lived in it, they built their incredible friendship in it and now their relationship was starting in it.
It was totally them and it was exactly how it was supposed to be.
U - Undercover
Hailey pulled the skirt of her tight dress down, she didn’t mind going undercover, but she minded anything that left her not wearing pants. Not only that, but she had Jay’s body heat radiating through her. He was standing so close to her that it was distracting. Hailey shifted uncomfortably, she was hot and falling out of her top, and the sexy piece of meat hovering over her was not helping.
Jay felt Hailey’s fidgeting and leaned down. “Hey, you okay?”
Hailey sucked in a breath, “Yeah, all good.” She said, very aware that her partner’s face was just centimeters from her’s. She searched the room, she was on a mission. “Look, there’s Jacobs.” She said, grabbing Jay’s hand and pulling him through the crowded party.
They followed him down a hallway, Jay letting Hailey take the lead. That was, until their suspect looked over his shoulder a few too many times. “I’m sorry.” Jay muttered quietly and before Hailey could even think to respond, she was pushed against the wall and Jay’s lips were on hers.
She melted into immediately, bringing her hands to grip his short hair as his hands ran up and down her figure. Hailey took a deep breath in, reveling in his scent. Jay pushed Hailey further into the wall, slipping his tongue in her mouth as she gasped. They fought for dominance, Jay ultimately winning.
Jay’s hand found her thigh, hitching it over his hip. Things got heated really fast and finally Jay forced himself away from her, “Um, I think he bought it.” Jay said.
Hailey nodded, avoiding his gaze. Both of them were on the verge of laughing. “Definitely.”
V - Very
Jay was sitting next to Hailey on a barstool at Molly’s, taking in the gorgeous view. He couldn’t look away. He was also slightly intoxicated, meaning he was feeling pretty confident.
His relationship with Hailey would have it’s own evolution movie, and he swore something else had changed in the past few weeks. They were flirting, like really flirting and honestly he was done tiptoeing around his feelings for her. Which was a very new feeling, he never liked talking about emotions, especially confessing them.
But right now, looking at her, he wanted to scream them from a rooftop. “Hailey.”
“Hmm?”
“Have I ever told you that I think you are very pretty?” He asked.
Hailey laughed, attempting to hide her blush. “No Jay, you haven’t. But thank you, I think you are very pretty too.”
“No Hailey.” Jay said, reaching out to grab her hand that was resting on the bar. “You are so beautiful. Like out of this world gorgeous and sometimes I look at you and wonder if you are even human, that’s how pretty you are.”
Hailey was speechless, but she was grinning ear to ear, and Jay took that as a good sign. He leaned in, pressing his lips to hers, steadying himself on her thigh. Hailey leaned into him, deepening the kiss, but pulling away before it went too far. They were still around all of their colleagues.
Hailey turned her head and whispered in his ear, “I think now is a good time to tell you that you are a very good kisser.”
W - Wedding
Six years after the fact, Adam and Kim were finally getting married. It was safe to say it was one of the most anticipated events of the decade, especially for the men and women of the 21st district.
Hailey stood in the parlor with Kim helping her eat a granola bar, very careful not to drop anything on their dresses. She looked beautiful, the white gown was very Kim. It was fitted at the top with cap sleeves and no back, and the train was so long that it drug feet behind her on the floor.
The wedding planner walked in a few minutes later to announce that they were ready, Hailey looked to Kim, “You ready?”
Kim nodded confidently, beaming. “Let’s do this thing.”
Jay held the door open for Adam and the officiant to walk down the aisle, knowing he would be next. He didn’t hesitate to say yes when Adam asked him to be a groomsmen, he had been in their corner since the beginning, and he felt honored to stand by Adam’s side.
He turned around to find Hailey standing in front of him, in a gorgeous blush pink dress that matched the rest of the girls. Her hair was curled and pinned back, and for the first time ever, Jay could tell she was wearing makeup (honestly, it was strange to see). She approached him slowly, “You look very handsome.” She said.
Jay blushed (manlike, of course), “You-you look amazing.” He sighed out, watching her cheeks turn the shade of her dress.
“Thank you.” She said and then they were ushered into a line. They entered the sanctuary by pair, Kim’s niece Zoe (who was now 16) going first with one of Adam’s cousins. Then Jay and Hailey went, followed by Kevin and Nicole, Kim’s sister. Once everyone was in place, Canon in D major began to play and the doors swung open revealing Kim and her father.
Jay watched Adam smile and then his gaze drifted to Hailey, who was directly across from him. They locked eyes and she smiled at him, causing his heart to go crazy. After that, his eyes never strayed from her for too long.
After minutes of standing and smiling, Adam was finally allowed to kiss his bride. The cheering started and everyone clapped their hands for the happy couple. Kim and Adam ran back down the aisle and the wedding party followed.
When Jay met Hailey in the middle, Jay made a split second decision. He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her flush against him, covering her lips with his. Hailey squeaked in surprise, but let herself melt into him. It was like he read her mind, this was all she could think of during the ceremony, and now she was kissing Jay Halstead.
It would go down as the happiest day of all of their lives.
X - XRay
“Hailey, everything is going to be fine.” Jay said, his hand finding a familiar place on her shoulder. They were sitting in the hospital waiting room, a not so fun place for both of them.
It had been a routine day, until a foot pursuit sent Hailey to the ground. She was only scratched up a bit, which was remarkable considering she was hit by a car. Sure, it was going about five miles per hour, but the sight of her hitting the pavement was enough to send Jay into a frenzy.
They had come in to get checked out, even though Hailey insisted she was fine. And she was, almost. Will examined her and cleared her for any on duty injury, but near the end he noticed that her thyroid was swollen and after further exploration he found there was a tiny lump. Hailey then sheepishly confessed that she had been having some pain and Will excused himself.
It was a hard call to make, the line between playing it safe and overreacting. However, there was doubt about it that Will had to make Hailey face the facts, for her and his brother’s sake.
Returning to the room a few minutes later, Will sat down in front of Hailey and explained what he was seeing. “I hate to say this Hailey, but the lump on your thyroid is alarming. You are past the age of normal diagnosis, but I’ve seen it several times later in life-”
“Diagnosis of what?” Hailey snapped, cutting him off.
Will sighed, “Thyroid cancer.”
So, here the two partners were about two hours later. After explaining the situation there had been a lot of tears and paperwork, and now they were waiting for Hailey’s appointment for an X-Ray and possible MRI.
Hailey was terrified, there was no history of cancer in her family, but she knew enough to know that thyroid cancer was common and deadly. She wasn’t ready to die, she wasn’t ready to stop living her life the way she was. She wasn’t ready to give up on being a wife, or a mom, or even a grandma. She had so much left she wanted to do.
The tears started again and Jay wrapped a protective arm around her shoulders and pulled her lean against him. “I don’t want to die, Jay.”
Jay stiffened, hugging her tighter. “You aren’t going to die.”
“I might.”
“No.” Jay said, turning to face her. “You will beat this, whatever it is. You are too stubborn to go down without a massive fight.” He reached and brushed his thumb across his cheek, “And we will fight whatever this is together.”
His eyes locked with hers, and he leant in, pressing a tender kiss to her lips. Hailey let herself linger there for a moment before pulling away and whispering against his lips. “Together.”
Y - Yes
“Yes.”
“Yes?”
“Yes, Jay.” Hailey said, laughing.
“Yes, you will go on a date with me?”
Hailey rolled her eyes, “What else would yes mean?”
Jay shrugged, “I don’t know, you could have meant it sarcastically or maybe it’s opposite day-”
Hailey cut him off by kissing him gently, when she pulled away she grinned at the sight in front of her. Jay’s eyes still closed and his eyebrows furrowed, he was so freaking cute. “How’s that for a yes?”
Jay smirked, “I don’t know, I think we are going to have to try again.”
Hailey was beaming right along with him. “Yes…”
Z - Zzzzzzz
Jay was out like a light on the break room couch, and Hailey smiled to herself as she laid the crappy blanket they kept in the locker room over him. It was just them left and as much as she wanted to leave, she couldn’t bring herself to leave him there alone or wake him up. He looked so peaceful, which was rare.
Hailey’s eyes wandered over his face, he was so attractive. Probably the most beautiful man she had ever met or even seen. And he was so kind, and determined and passionate. Sometimes she wondered how he was even real, or how she got so lucky as to be his partner. “I love you.” She whispered, sighing out. It was nice to say it outloud, even if he was unconscious.
She walked slowly towards him, leaning down to press a kiss to his forehead, she took one more glance and then made her way towards the door.
However she didn’t get very far before a hand grabbed her wrist, spinning her around. It was Jay, almost like he was back from the dead and he was grinning like a fool. Hailey felt her heart stop in her chest, he had sacred the shit out of her. “Say it again.”
Jay had woken up when she put the blanket on him, he was a really light sleeper, but he had decided to stay “asleep” so she wouldn’t feel guilty. He was so glad he did.
“What?” Hailey asked, breathing heavy. Her hands began to shake and it felt like his next words were a million miles away.
He looked her dead in the eye, “Say it again.”
“I love you.” She breathed out.
Jay wasted no time closing the gap between them and pushing her against the doorframe. He connected their lips and cupped her face in his hands. Hailey gripped the wall for support, her head was spinning and her knees felt weak. When Jay finally pulled away, they were both smiling even bigger than before. “I love you too.”
…

Christmas Lights
Pairing: Vanessa Rojas x Kevin Atwater
Warnings: fluff
Request: contribution to the @chicagopd-secretsanta event
for @gilbxrt-blythe
Prompt: a fic for Rowater where Kevin spends the Christmas break with Vanessa and her family as her fake boyfriend
Word count: 1.5k
A/N: Happy Holidays!✨🎄🎁 I hope you like it! It was my first time writing character x character, so I really hope it’s not too bad. Gif is mine.
Vanessa put down the phone with a somber look. She didn’t know why she had to lie to her family earlier, that she had a boyfriend. She felt like they wouldn’t worry about her that much if she wasn’t alone. Here was Christmas approaching and she couldn’t escape spending the holiday at her family, and of course they wanted to meet her boyfriend. She had to figure out a solution and fast, or things would tumble out of her hand.
Vanessa slowly set down her phone on the desk, the file of her last case before the holiday in front of her. With a loud sigh Vanessa closed the file and got up from her desk. She was about to put on her coat when Kevin appeared at the top of the stairs.
“Hey, you still here?” he asked, heading for his desk, grabbing his wallet, he must have left here.
“Yeah, just wrapping up my last case. But I am going now.”
“Cool. Wanna come to Molly’s? There is a Christmas party going on today.” he offered, looking at Vanessa with a hopeful gaze, which of course she didn’t notice, because she was too lost in her thoughts. An idea came to her mind, a smile lighting up her face as she looked up at Kevin.
“Sure” she agreed, her new plan of solving her problem starting to take a form in her head. “Wait” she called after him before he could go down the stairs. “I need you to pretend we’re dating” she blurted it out, before she could really think it through. Kevin froze in his place, his jaws dropping.
“What!?” he asked, confounded.
“Please” Vanessa pleaded with him “My family thinks I have a boyfriend and they want to meet him over the holidays, and I just don’t know what to do” she stepped closer, desperate for a solution. Tears gathered in her eyes, her family can’t know how she lied to them.
Kevin collected himself upon seeing her distress and didn’t hesitate to agree. She was his friend, his college, he would do anything for her.
“When are we leaving?” he asked, a smile gracing his lips, as he looked down at Vanessa. Relief spread in her as she matched his smile.
“Tomorrow” she grinned, thankful for his friend to do this for her. Her brand new plan to get a fake boyfriend for the holidays came into motion more quickly than she could hope.
***
The day of their trip to her parents Vanessa anxiously waited for Kevin to show up in front of her house, she started to question her plan and their acting skills in front of her family. Will they be able to convince them?
Her thought process was cut short when Kevin arrived at her place, Vanessa quickly picked up her pack and headed for his car. She wanted to get over with this as soon as possible. Vanessa felt awkward about the whole situation as they drove out of Chicago and by the look of it Kevin wasn’t feeling more comfortable than here either. She started to regret her rushed decision to ask him to be his fake boyfriend for the holiday. They were good friends and now she fears their relationship will be tainted after this little acting.
Vanessa turned up the music in the car to close out the deafening silence the whole trip was spent in. Kevin reached out and turned down the music, and glanced at Vanessa, with a sigh he started to ask “What is our story? How did we start dating?”
Vanessa looked at him, as she quickly gathered her thoughts. “Uhm… I didn’t really tell them anything about ‘my boyfriend’, so we could stick to the truth as much we can? We work together and went out a few times and here we are?” she cluelessly shrugged her shoulder.
“Alright” he nodded, glancing at her every few minutes in the remainder of their trip. Vanessa did the same, she felt awkward, but couldn’t help to look at him every now and then.
As they neared her home, she started to remember all the memories she gained in the countryside. When she was young she was changing foster homes every few months, but this place right here, became her real family, this was the last place she got to and Vanessa spent here the most time. This was the first place where she really felt loved and found a home she could get back to no matter what. Her foster family became her real family and she didn’t want to fail them.
A farmhouse came into sight and Vanessa could feel the warmth inside her, she already felt carefree and a smile spread on her lips. She didn’t notice, but Kevin looked at him right in that moment and couldn’t help himself, but to copy her grin. He loved to see her happy and he decided he will do everything he can to see her like this more often.
Kevin parked the car in front of the house, as a woman barged through the door, Vanessa quickly got out of the car to meet the woman half way.
“Vanessa” called the woman with joy in her voice “I am so happy you two made it!” the woman looked expectantly at Kevin, almost getting out of her skin in her excitement.
“Mom, this is Kevin, my boyfriend” Vanessa introduced him hesitantly, all her lies weighing her down. “Kev, this is my mother, Sarah” Sarah immediately went for a hug, not caring about Kevin’s reached out hand.
“It’s so nice to finally meet you! We started to think Vanessa just made you up!” laughed Sarah, but Vanessa and Kevin couldn’t feel any more embarrassed, they faked a laugh, not too convincing, but Sarah didn’t notice it. “Come on in, it’s cold outside” her mother beckoned them in.
Stepping into the house left Kevin in awe. The house was full of warmth and twinkling Christmas lights. The living room was full of people and all eyes turned to them as they stepped in. Sarah pushed them forward, then announced their arrival.
“Vanessa is finally here with her boyfriend, Kevin!” Murmuring spread through the whole room, everybody was curious of Vanessa’s mysterious boyfriend. Vanessa felt embarrassed from all the eyes looking at them, all her foster siblings and aunts and uncles stared them down. She wasn’t sure how to act, so she just smiled and hooked her hand into Kevin’s pulling him closer. The tension disappeared from the room and everybody started to act more carefree, they turned back to their previous conversations and Vanessa felt like she could breath again.
Kevin must have thought the same, because she heard a relieved sigh leaving his lips. He looked down at Vanessa and they shared a knowing smile, so far their plan was working.
***
At the end of the day a tired Vanessa wandered outside to the porch to get a breath of fresh air. Pretending was tiring, but she couldn’t be more grateful for Kevin to do all of this for her.
The weather was freezing outside, but she enjoyed the cooling effect of it. She needed to clear her head out. She took a deep breath, the cold air sobering her up. The door opened behind her and a voice disturbed her thoughts.
“You left me inside with them, they won’t stop asking me questions” came Kevin’s playful complaint. Vanessa chuckled slightly as she turned to look at him.
“Sorry, I needed some fresh air” Vanessa apologized with a smile. Kevin grinned back as he stepped next to her.
“You know after this, you owe me big time” teased Kevin, bumping his shoulder into hers.
“Oh yeah I was sure, I won’t get away that easily after this” smirked Vanessa, as she looked into his eyes. The time seemed to stop as they gazed into each other’s eyes. They both gravitated towards each other, their lips only a breath away.
Vanessa came to her senses and slightly pulled back, searching his eyes for some kind of reassure. Was it really almost them kissing? Maybe this fake dating could turn into more? Kevin looked just as flustered as her. Maybe it was cold outside or the eggnog they drank earlier, but Vanessa just wanted to act on her feelings. So without a second thought, she closed the distance between them as her lips found his.
Kevin didn’t hesitate much to kiss her back. They got lost in each other, outside on the porch, under the twinkling Christmas lights as the snow soundlessly fell around them, covering the countryside with a white blanket.

Volomag and Vodka
Part 1
A/N: Volomag is a painkiller similar to aspirin, please do not take them both at the same time, your liver may not be able to process them at the same time resulting in death.
This story is also posted on Wattpad under the username chantalis
Written by @anotheronechicagobog
The title comes from what I think Voight would say once he realized how all his subordinates were looking at each other :D
Living with one of your coworkers was... Interesting to say the least. Hailey was just happy that Rojas wasn’t also her partner otherwise they would see way too much of each other and wouldn’t have the sister bond they’re working so hard on forming. When Hailey left earlier, to go have breakfast with Jay, Vanessa didn’t think anything of it. It was becoming more and more common for her to wake up to a note on the fridge saying that Hailey was somewhere doing something with Jay. They were partners, had survived a lot together, were totally in love with each other, and they refused to acknowledge their own feelings. So Vanessa found it odd in no way at all. It was one fateful Friday morning that something was different. A short but precise note was left on the fridge in Hailey’s swirly writing, but something was, not out of place, somewhere it was not supposed to be. In direct sight line from the coffee maker, in the little nook that herald the washer and dryer, was a basket that held Hailey’s dry load from last night that hadn’t been folded yet on top of said dryer. Even with the distance between Vanessa and the article of clothing, the fact that it still slightly crumpled up, and only pieces of it were visible from the voids between the white plastic, she could clearly recognize the shirt. The faded dark green cotton t-shirt with grey lettering stood out like a sore thumb amongst Hailey’s red, blue, and black clothes. The same t-shirt Halstead wore the first time Vanessa went to watch the blackhawks game at Ruzek’s place for the first team game night. His army rangers t-shirt.
It happened more and more over the next couple of months, Jay staying over and sleeping with Hailey, in her bed, and at least him but usually both being gone by the time Vanessa got up. She’d woken up or come back late and peeked in Hailey’s room enough times to see them dead asleep, wrapped in each other, and fully clothed. She started listening out for them, to see if they were doing anything... Eventful. But nope. She heard them, but they never had sex. Or did anything even remotely steamy. There was only a thin wall between Vanessa and Hailey’s rooms, she could hear everything but the specifics. She could hear talking, murmuring, laughing, and oddly enough, singing. From both of them. She didn’t know what was going on, but she had never seen either of them so well rested. And apparently, she wasn’t the only one. Kim was asking her if she had a boyfriend, “no, no boyfriend. Just a new pillow.” Jay, who’d been pretending not to listen raised and amused eyebrow at Hailey, and action that was only noticed by Hailey and Vanessa. And the guys ribbed Jay about finally getting laid. “She must be real special if she’s making you smile.”
“Huh?”
“Ruz is right, you’ve been smiling more, you’re definitely seeing someone.”
“And getting laid.”
“RUZ.”
“Guys,” Jay interrupted the beginning of an argument, “I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I’m not seeing someone. Or getting any.”
“What? No way man, I don’t buy it. You definitely have a ‘I just had mind-blowing sex’ vibe about you.”
“You know I don’t get the chance to say this often, but Ruzek is right.”
“HEY!”
“Seriously guys. I’m not hooking up with anybody, haven’t for a while actually, I’m just sleeping better.”
“Really?”
“How?”
“I got a different bed.” That last line made Hailey inhale her coffee.
Around New Years, Jay went to spend his vacation time with the other Halstead in New York. Leaving Hailey without her bedtime companion. This resulted in the blonde woman falling asleep everywhere that wasn’t her bed. Seriously, she fell asleep in Vanessa’s bed once. This time Vanessa found her asleep on the couch, the TV still playing Wonder Woman. There had been a new addition to Hailey’s regular wardrobe. A chain, the pendant or whatever was on it, was tucked underneath her shirt. The chain wasn’t one you’d usually find with a necklace, one of those bumpy ones that were usually reserved for dog tags. When Vanessa found Hailey sleeping on the couch on January second, she found that she was right. The metal had fallen out from under her shirt due to her position, and when Vanessa pulled a blanket around her she got a good look at them.

Hailey Upton was wearing a set of Jay’s dog tags. She was shocked, so shocked it left her trembling. She was shaking as she took out her phone to snap a picture. She quickly retreated, to move the photo into a locked folder. If whatever they were got out, it wasn’t going to be through her. Once she calmed herself down fury started to cocoon her. Hailey was fucking awesome, had a fucking terrible childhood, and Vanessa was going to be damned if that fucker didn’t know what he had. So she called him. “Listen up you adicto al gel para el cabelo-“
“Rojas?”
“Don’t you dare interrupt me Halstead o juro por Dios que volare a Nuevo York y te amenazare en persona.”
“I’m sure that you have a very good reason to be threatening me- are you threatening me? It feels like you’re threatening me- in Spanish but it’s three am.”
“I don’t know what you and Hailey are doing but if you hurt her I’ll rip of your balls and turn them into a pair of earrings and give the to Hailey on her birthday. Are we clear?”
“... Yes.”
“Bueno.”
“We- we’re not...”
“Hm?”
“We’re not sleeping together- well, okay, we’re sleeping together- but it’s JUST sleep. Not sex. Just sleep. Cuddling. And eating together... and stuff. Just, uh, not sex. I’m telling the truth. Promise.”
“I know.”
“How did you find out?”
“Lot’s of little hints. What really solidified it was seeing you dog tags around her neck.”
“Oh. Yeah. Those were part of her Christmas gift. Just... I wanted her to know that she’s important to me.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
“Don’t hurt her, she doesn’t deserve that.”
“I know. I won’t.” Then she hung up, he got the message, and Vanessa really didn’t want to hear him stutter in her ear anymore.
