I love this quote. It’s exactly how I feel when I am trying to get into ketosis. I just want to be alone with no outside disturbances. Little patience. I’m super sensitive, and feel moody and sick! Everyone experienced ketosis differently. I get the worst case of the Keto flu with night sweats, headache, exhaustion. My husband Shawn suffers from nothing. While happy to be home, I do miss Vancouver. We have been home for 2 week now. Wow! Time flies. I miss being in that lifestyle, watching cyclists, avid walkers, and runners of every age down by the ocean and downtown. It’s inspiring to be amongst the majority of people in shape at all ages! I love this quote. I think Keto concepts sometimes get confused with those of the Atkins diet. A ketogenic diet comprises high fats, moderate proteins, and low carbohydrates. The macronutrients consist of approximately 55% to 60% fat, 30% to 35% protein, and 5% to 10% carbohydrates. But this doesn’t mean just animal fat, although many people assume this or focus on this. In living this lifestyle I still remove the skin from my chicken. I give it to the kids (dogs and cat). Every morning I have a tablespoon of quality pumpkin seed oil, a tablespoon of avocado oil, and a tablespoon of MCT oil. I’m feeding my body, heart, and brain with super food healthy fats. I believe it is the eating of these fats and the elimination of sugar (or refined sugars) that keeps me pain free approaching age 60. I had pain throughout my 40’ and 50’s. In my 20’s I taught 5 high impact aerobic classes per day for years. I did these classes not on wooden sprung floors like today but on cold cement. Slow warm ups were unheard of. We did ballistic stretching to the beat! I wore flimsy Reebok shoes that were pretty but lacked support. In my 20’s it took a half hour to warm up my knees and feet. I hobbled around until my feet and ankles and knees would work. My knees ached more in my 30’s and 40’s than they do now. Healthy fat are our little miracles. Fats from avocado, salmon, nuts and seeds, and coconuts (MCT). Incorporating monounsaturated and polyunsaturated and “healthy saturated fat” like MCT is so important in doing the Keto and Paleo diets. My husband Shawn has been doing a niche of the Keto diet called the Carnivore Diet. While dairy is allowed on this diet he has been orthodox, sticking to only proteins like beef, chicken, tuna, salmon, pork and eggs. Zero carbs for 40 days straight. He was already fit. But he has now lost 26 pounds of intramuscular fat, getting into a runner’s mode. So inspiring! He has literally not consumed ONE carb! Inspiring! I tried this route for a couple of days but it didn’t work for me. I started to feel nauseous when I smelled the meat cooking. Actually was sick to stomach. My body needs veggies. So I stick to what I call water veggies like cucumber, mixed greens, radishes, celery. Every person is unique and your body has its own unique needs. There’s more to put Keto Paleo lifestyle than just our meals. My husband and I love to take long walks through our city. We live in a small cottage country city that’s more like a town with a gorgeous small lake in downtown. Walking around the lake and through the cemetery is one of our favourite routes. We average 6 miles per day minimum. Walking around the city was one of the gifts we discovered from COVID. Normally we jump in the car and head right to the gym. We exercise indoors at the gym on the treadmill and doing weights. Shawn also plays basketball. We have discovered this little joy in our lives. Walking. Walking and talking to folks sitting on their porches or gardening in their front yards. Spent a week in Vancouver with my husband Shawn. Cannot believe we have been home for a week. We enjoyed all the restaurants and grocery store goods that are Keto and Paleo friendly. We walked an average of 10 miles a day visiting all the tourist sites like Granville Island, Capilano Suspension Bridge (the pic), Grouse Mountain, and more. We were pleasantly surprised that fitness and well being are important here. Almost every road has a bicycle path. We saw countless people of all ages jogging and walking. A fit city!
