Art Blocks been kicking my aboslute ass lately so have some silly sketches of me trying to work out how i want different wof characters to look

Maybe it's just me, but I dont know how to feel about the WoF Fandom here. On one hand, everyone seems nice I guess, but at the same time it feels...toxic? I don't know if I'm using the right words or not. Like, not everyone's like this but I se so many people getting mad about someone liking a specific character and making them feel like shit for it. I'm going to be honest, I like Kestral. I understand that what she did was awful but she's also a character I really like. I don't even know why. Maybe I'm overreacting or whatever, but I just feel sad so many people here just come off passive agressive or rude. Maybe that's just Fandom for ya, or maybe I'm just being delusional. I don't even know anymore.

When Yuu first introduced the series, Malleus was intrigued to say the least

Let’s just say his favorite was Starflight

I mean- think about it..

Malleus entirely enjoyed the series and wished to know mores

He even asked if there was any gargoyles

“What are these…scavengers..Child of Man?”

“Oh! They’re humans, Tsunotarou!”

let’s say he was quite surprised by this choice of words, though he could see the reasonings behind the name

Yuu would absolutely ramble out theories while Malleus will add in with it

They will be in the library, giggling as they read the books

If Malleus was able to be in Yuu world to see the author, expect him to full on have all the merchandise

Malleus will absolutely be fascinated by Darkstalker: The Legend

Will definitely refer to Yuu as Clearsight at random times

Yuu would call Malleus Darkstalker in return

It would be funny and comical as everyone tried to figure why they call eachother such strange names

They will absolutely try to call the other students different names from the series

“Ah, it seems Sunny (Kalim) is bothering Glory (Leona) again Tsunatorou.”

“Indeed Clearsight, here comes Professor Kestral (Trein).”

Let’s say, everyone is confused at these strange nicknames

Even Floyd was tiny bit nervous as he was the one with the suspicious nicknames

“It is due to you being quite sadistic and slippery Whirlpool.”

Yuu snorted at Malleus random appearance and answer

Let’s say Malleus and Yuu ran quickly from a angry..slippery eel (if you know, you know)

Either way, you both will have fun

Lilia:

Lilia is amused by such silly concepts as he calls it (it be a silly concept when I-)

He enjoys it as mere fairytales, but that what he thought when he read the prophecy of the first arc

He would immediately latch onto the book series

As the cultures, history, and mystery of playing detective got him

Lilia will immediately stamp Queen Scarlet as point of interest

“Fufufu~! I’ve never thought that Queen Scarlet would be this enthusiastic about colosseum battles.”

His favorite would definitely be Blister. A wicked mastermind? Absolutely.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Lilia starts to be huffy over her death

He would list the reasons why she should be queen

He gonna be all over Queen Diamond and Queen Wasp

Yuu will be willing to share some theories as Lilia would just debunk each one

Definitely will create his own tribe at some point (I mean—we all done that at point)

Silver:

Silver will snooze it through

It’s confirmed that Malleus and Yuu will nickname him Coconut (I’m not even joking)

Silver won’t be interested much in the first arc, but he will definitely will be in the second arc

I mean, he gonna be interested there was a strange voice turning out to be Darkstalker, a magic scroll of animus magic, and even more knightly behavior from Qibli and Winter

His favorite gonna be Winter

Cold face (even though it’s their normal face), stiff, and somehow have a connections to animals (humans-), and a possibility of Silver being Auror-

Though our sleepy boi is always sleeping, he is vigilant

He definitely will be invested enough to put in little facts for theories with Yuu and the others

Expect him to snore at the boring parts of the books

Definitely will read the epilogue of each book for new details

He will not take kindly at Lilia idea of having sleeping darts made for research purposes (Sebek RUN)

Will have a hammock and whenever he naps, Malleus and Lilia will deem it Suntime

Most likely will have a RainWings persona from Lilia accordingly

Sebek you can’t just tell profanities at 4:35 a.m cause of some event happen in the books

No Sebek, you can’t throw the Dragonslayer book into the furnace

Sebek will definitely not be happy over the dragonslayer book at all

Sebek is now called Tsunami

He will absolutely hold the nickname dear to him as it was given by Malleus out of amusement

Sebek is gonna yell at Silver to wake up and not be a literal RainWings

NRC is now baffled and confused at these weird and outworldly remarks

wof designs from a little while ago! i wanted to draw tamarin and anemone as well as kestral and scarlet at totally different dates so i put them together. 

ill probably reblog these onto my wof account but they might not necessarily be 100% solidified if i do, this was just for fun <3

So, the one with the longest story hath been chosen. I will do my best to explain it in chronological order and also in a way that requires the least amount of exposition and the least knowledge of other characters. The universe containing my wof ocs is shared with about 10 other people and is not canon compliant with the books what so ever. So disregard canon content completely. Because it is shared I do not own majority of the characters in this(I don’t think any of them have tumblr but I don’t want to bother them anyways + I’m not in contact with most of them anymore) the characters I do own are the ones listed on the original post + the background characters here. To make things easier I won’t be giving the background characters of mine names so that way it’s easier to tell. Get ready for this convoluted mess!

So the icewing queen is dying of old age and has no heirs. The closest relatives to her are sisters, brothers, and nephews which she could technically put into power but she decides not to and instead, pick a random young icewing from a non-royal circle. Since the queen wasn’t animus, she thought of doing this as her “gift” to the tribe and dubbed it the “gift of perspective” as having a lower rank icewing in power would give lower circles more power and hopefully help bridge the gaps between rankings. Doing so would also help higher circles actually realise issues going on in lower ones and go fix it yada yada.

This is where Nieve comes in, pulled from 4th circle at the age of 8 where she surprise! Becomes queen when the original one ends up croaking, which she had known nothing about till the royal council came and nabbed her.

Nieve is very naive about royal life for obvious reasons and quickly becomes extremely overwhelmed by all of what is expected of her. She has a lot of ideas for the tribe, much of which are deemed “too radical” by the past queens relatives that make up her council and by the tribes animus, Snowflurry. For the first few years of her in office, she is basically a puppet queen, allowing the council to control everything.

During this period, Snowflurry attempts to befriend her, to some success, by offering to enchant her things and so on, which she rejects his offers for obvious reasons. He begins to stick up for her a bit over time and they do develop a warmer relationship. He ends up convincing her that to gain respect from her council, she has to have an heir which is costumery at her age. He offers to have one with her which she agrees too after some manipulation as she’s still very naive about things and being a closested ace lesbian she def had a “no no this is how things work I’m just weird” mindset. Snowflurry of course, did this as a power grab. Hoping that once she had her egg she would betroth him, making him king.

After having her egg, Nieve quickly realises this is NOT what she wanted and kind of “wakes up” from all the sheltering and brainwashing she’d endured over the last few years.

She demotes Snowflurry from being her chamberlain and begins to actually take charge in court. Throughout the next few years she is able to establish some change in the kingdom. Nothing too drastic but things like making food more accessible and building housing for lower circles. Her child Subzero also hatches during this time.

It’s also around this time that Timber commits arson and comes into play. After multiple infractions he is sent directly to Nieve who basically just gives him a therapy session and lets him back out. They then just meet weekly and this continues over the course of these two years until timber becomes stable. He was probably 5 at the time. -Not super important to Nieves plot line but Timber and Nieve respectively are the two who tie all the characters in this universe together and he will come in a couple more times so I figured I’d establish this relationship-

Because of everything Nieves been doing she is seen as foolish and controversial. The fact that she also is very poetic (Shakespearean up in this bitch) also doesn’t help.

Time passes, subzeros 7 by now and Nieve receives a message saying that there will be an emergency council of rulers held in Possibility as new info from Pantala has arrived. Nieve kind of drops everything and heads to possibility. Before she leaves though she makes it clear that if anything happens in the ice kingdom that a messenger needs to tell her and no decisions should be made while she’s gone.

Nine of the tribe rulers arrived at the council, the Hiveking being the only one missing. They get into this big war room and begin to discuss this large scroll that had been sent from the hivewings (who at this point occupied the entirety of Pantala, leaving the majority of silk and leaf wings to immigrate to Phyrria) . The document stated that the Hivewings would be moving to unite all of both continents under their rule. Those who agree and sign the document will be given a small state to govern under them, and those who refuse will be removed by force. After much discussion, the heads of the tribes choose what to do. Mudwings, Seawings, Nightwings, and skywings sign. (Skywings with much hesitation.) Nieve, despite believing that unity would be good, believes that one group ruling over the entire world would undoubtedly become corrupt. Therefore, she along with leafwings, rainwings, silkwings, and sandwings refuse. Those who agree become known as the hive-alliance, and those who refused become known as the rebellion.

This causes a lot of arguments and they all basically come to terms that this will mean war. The rulers all return to their tribes to gather up troops in order to fight.

The rebellion becomes stationed in the sand kingdom, as it is a large open area that not much will be destroyed if a battle occurs. While waiting for the upcoming fight Nieve goes about socialising with the other tribes. Unlike with her own, the other tribes take a liking to Nieves eccentricity and see her as a benign and strong figure. (Nieve is a larger dragon who also had a graceful and noble vibe which also probably added to people seeing her as a figure they could look to) and her continuously showing empathy and help for the lower ranking dragons just solidified that. She becomes close with the sandwing queen, Caracal, specifically as they have similar opinions and morals.

Subzero ends up sneaking over to the Warzone, causing Nieve to be extremely angry at her. She wants to fight but Nieve disallows her, wanting to protect her. Nieve was always more of an absent mother to subzero who rarely showed affection though, and this results in her believing that Nieve just was sheltering her and didn’t believe she could actually handle herself or fight. The whole interaction leaving a big rift in their relationship.

The hive wings and their alliance arrive and battles break out. Over time the hivealliance seperate the rebels out, dividing their tribes up and constraining them to their respective territories. Now that they didn’t have safety in numbers, the rebels began to be hit hard, causing the rebellion to fall apart.

While briefly back in her kingdom, Nieve calls upon Snowflurry to enchant items for her. She collects five narwhal tusks- one of which being previously enchanted to cure frostbreath burns- and she has him enchant/ amend them to cure almost any wound. He does so, and she has her messengers send one to every rebel queen.

A massive attack on the sand kingdom occurs and the leafwings and icewings run to their aid, barely fending off the alliance. With most soldiers dead or gravely injured, and lack of supplies, the sand kingdom didn’t look so good. Realising they needed a solution and fast, and that the alliance the sand and ice tribes had wasn’t doing much help, Nieve decided to pull a pro gamer move.

She proposes to Caracal, thinking they would be much stronger if their two kingdoms united-pretty sure she went on this whole poetic monologue about it while proposing- Caracal accepts because dumb bisexual fall for dumb lesbian.

This creates more controversy among the two tribes since it’s unheard of for a queen to marry the queen of another tribe. It also adds a lot of questions to political stuff like transfer of power.

Subzero is introduced to Caracals daughter, Viper and they pretty quickly become friends. Viper has a similar relationship with her mother and decides that she wants to kill Caracal because she would be a better ruler. Subzero backs her on this.

Nieve finds out and is furious threatening Viper that if she killed Caracal, Nieve would technically become queen of the sandwings since she’s already co-ruling and Viper would have to kill her too. Viper eventually figures she won’t be able to kill both of them and gets over it. Caracal feels betrayed about the whole situation.

The battles continue and the icewings and sandwings come back stronger than ever. They are able to unite the other parts of the rebellion and end up winning the war, chasing the hivewings back to Pantala where they rule once more. Things were at peace but tension between the tribes was extremely high and soldiers continued to be stationed around integrated towns in the continent which caused many issues.

Nieve tries to re-establish allegiances with the the tribes they warred with, and successfully allies with the seawings again. (Important to timbers plot) upon trying to ally with the skywings, the sky queen denies her, claiming she’s the reason her daughter left. Nieve of course is like “wtf I don’t even know your kids” and so on. (Important to Taita’s plot).

She says good bye to Caracal and Viper in possibility, hoping they will be able to write to each other frequently since they rule their own kingdoms and probably won’t be able to see each other often, and Nieve goes back to the iceKingdom.

When she arrives it is utter chaos. Snowflurry had taken over as King in her absence, denying any input from her via messengers and Sub Zero. Things are running amok and Nieve is furious, causing her to move Snowflurry down to seventh circle. He is escorted out by guards.

The next few weeks everything is back up and running and Nieve finishes doing damage control. Everything’s going fine until Nieves crown is stolen from the treasury.

Seeing the theft occur, Nieve sets off after the dragon and catches her in the open tundra not far from the castle. The dragon tosses the crown back to Nieve and seems very nervous and unstable as she reveals she was just luring Nieve out to assassinate her. Nieve told the dragon they could both walk away unharmed as she never attacks first, but if she is attacked she will defend herself. The assassin slashes at her anyways, and leaps onto Nieves back to bite into the back of her neck. Nieve ruffles up the spines on her back, impaling the dragons underbelly and incapacitating her.

She slides off her spines and onto the ground and Nieve feels real bad about it so she scoops her up and brings her to the castle. She spends the next hour healing her with her narwhal tusk. The wound is healed but it leaves massive scars.

She finds out her name is Celsius They bond during this and become close after. Nieve kind of unintentionally and unofficially adopts her.

Like a week later they wake up to screaming and go outside and shit hit the fan! Everything is utter chaos. Snowflurry and the soldiers who were still loyal to him are out massacring civilians. Anyone they can get their talons on. Although, the main targets are the royalty.

A guard informs her that they tried to shut the gates between each circle to contain the violence but the guards in each one had been compromised therefore this is an almost a full kingdom event.

Nieve is in the brunt of it, fighting dragons off, all the while looking for her daughters. She finds Celsius collapsed on the ground, wounded with stomach torn open and Nieve drops everything to get her to safety. She takes her to the treasury, where they lock themselves inside and Nieve heals her. While this is happening, Subzero is out fighting and ends up killing Snowflurry. The situation calms down and she rushes to find Nieve but when she does she feels extremely betrayed since Nieve was holed away helping Celsius who’s not even her real kid instead of her. She tells Nieve what she did, hoping she’ll be praised. Nieve instead goes on this speech about how you should never be proud about killing someone, no matter how evil they may have been. Added drama points for the fact that Snowflurry was Subzeros dad, although subzero never knows this.

This event becomes known as the icewing massacre. Nieve begins to focus on rebuilding and helping the injured while Subzero on the other hand, decides to throw a party for moral purposes. Nieve is appalled by this since it’s not super serious plus she feels like it’s insensitive to throw a party after a bunch of people just died but it happens anyways.

Mostly higher ranking dragons show up and the lower the rank the less people from it arrive. Nieve pops in briefly since it’s being held in the castle and she had to walk through anyways. Timber spots her and they briefly interact, mostly him just making sure she’s okay.

Nieve leaves the scene and is shocked to find out the next day that timber had reportedly committed homicide, which is super shocking to her. She has no choice but to mark him as wanted and remove him from the wall, as to not make people panic and think she doesn’t care. Her daughter subzero fled after the murder for reasons unknown to nieve, as did timber but they fled separately. The dragon who was killed was a fifth circle (like timber) named Permafrost, and the only other witness was another fifth-circle named Stag, who was assumed to be a second victim as he was gravely injured. Stag refuses to testify or give any information on what happened though, so Nieve never finds out what really happened that night.

Nieve is panicked though after realizing Subzero was missing and sets out to find her, bringing Celsius with her cause of separation anxiety. They eventually find their way to the sand kingdom, scorpion den to be exact, and they could tell she wasn’t far from the town. They ask around for where she might be and find a mud-sand hybrid named Acacia who’s being harassed by shop keepers. Nieve steps in and acacia decides to stay with them and help look.

They come upon a sandwing named Xercole during their search and when questioned, he denied seeing subzero. He’s a shit liar tho and nieve sees through it, threatening him. He explains he’s friends with her and last he knew she went into the rainforest via the sand tunnel.

They look around the rainforest, eventually finding subzero tangled up in some vines. They free her and Nieve gets all emotional which shocks subzero since Nieve never really treated her well in the past.

All the commotion scares Acacia off and they can’t find her so they leave the rainforest without her. Negl kind of a dick move.

On the way back they pass through the sandkingdom and Subzero introduces Xercole to Nieve which doesn’t go well. Subzero threatens Nieve and Nieve settles on letting her stay in the sandkingdom.

They get back to the icekingdom and everything’s going good again for about a month. Then things get a little weird.

Both Nieve and Celsius develop extreme bad luck and it progressively gets worse and more dangerous by the day.

Nieve wakes up and Celsius is missing and she literally fucking can’t take it anymore so she abdicates from the throne, giving it to one of the original queen’s sisters.

She sets back out to find Celsius, her trail leading her BACK to the rainforest. Celsius has been harassing the border of a rainforest and a small sand city adjacent to it. Nieve finds and confronts her but oh uh! It’s not really celsius. It is a very emaciated celsius who’s also very injured but also it’s Snowflurry. Sis be possessed.

He tries to kill Nieve using celsius for revenge but he can’t manage to because of the size difference between the two dragons. Nieve does get injured a lot by the attack but she doesn’t fight back, taking the pain and not wanting to hurt celsius. She isn’t injured gravely at least so she can handle it.

She then basically mouths off at Snowflurry, calling him weak and stuff for coming back as a ghost and taking advantage of a child. Basically says he has no balls cause he won’t possess her instead. Which leads him to leaving Celsius body and coming for her which she just continues to go off on him and scares him away, especially when he discovers her mind isn’t easy to get into.

They stay in the rainforest for like a week, allowing Celsius to get better without having to travel. Celsius improves but she never really goes back to her normal self. Nieve confesses to her that she would’ve wanted Celsius to become the next ice queen had she remained in power.

The two have some major bonding time and decide to go to the sand kingdom, that way Nieve can she Caracal and Viper again and so that they’ll be able to just settle down somewhere safe around people who care about them.

They arrive at Caracals palace, showing up without warning and guards attempt to stop them from entering. Viper sees them and lets them in, scolding the guards for not recognizing her.

Caracal is called into the throne room and is ecstatic when she sees Nieve. Although, she quickly goes from excited to concerned when she sees her state. Nieve who’s usually super conscious about her appearance and regal and held together is dirty, unkempt, looks aged and sad and Caracal is freaking out. Nieve basically gives her the low down on everything that happened in the last few years since the war and why they are seeking refuge there as long as she’s okay with it.

They settle in well, celsius immediately bonding with both Caracal and viper despite having not met them before. The hardest part is probably the two icewings trying to acclimate to desert heat. They gotta carry parasols around and stay inside most of the time which is annoying but worth it.

Of course shit has to get ruined again when this massive sandwing mafia dude named Anubis shows up with an entourage of a few very mentally ill dragons. He turns out to be one of Snowflurrys old friends and also caracals ex/vipers dad. He’s had Nieve on his hit list for a while for a multitude of obvious reasons and now that she’s out of the icekingdom he can kill her.

But wait! One of the dragons in his little possy just happens to be timber. How he got into this situation and why, Nieve has no idea. Anubis orders timber to kill her, Nieve has the kids leave and Caracal decides to stay despite her protests. Anubis didn’t know of timber and Nieves relationship so it’s complete coincidence but Nieve also doesn’t know this.

She gets really sad, not wanting to fight timber cause she mentored him for majority of his life and timber very obviously doesn’t want to kill her either. He’s ready too, and he looks awful and Ill and injured which causes Nieve to be more concerned than anything. Timber realizes that Nieve isn’t angry or scared just sad and concerned and it strikes a chord with him. Causing him to turn around and attempt to kill Anubis instead (which is a MASSIVE deal when it comes to timber’s plot line). Anubis reflexes kick just before timber lands the blow, and he impales timber with his tail barb. Timber dies via mix of venom and blood loss and Anubis and the rest of his gang are very put off by this. Anubis promises he’ll be back yada yada yada and they flee.

And that’s the end of the plot! I just assume nieve and Celsius get to live happily ever after in the sand kingdom with the other ladies.

When I first read WOF it was when the second book had just come out so I was pretty young. I didn’t know how to pronounce??? Any of the names??? For some reason??? (another reason why I love audiobooks because they are so good and pronouncing weird things no one EVER says aloud)

Hey, so, sorry for disappearing for a while again,I have a habit of setting expectations for myself and then just not doing them immediately after I say I will. I had a few things happening in my personal life, I got fucking covid so that kinda stopped me from even wanting to do anything for a good 2 weeks. But, I’ve finally gotten out of my rut of just sitting in bed and doing nothing to finally draw and I’m back, hopefully for a good amount of time. Here’s the sketch for tomorrow’s comic page, it’s going to be the first one with the new designs.
