Lamps! Lamps!
Today we have two lamps edited for my Victorian Sims: a table lamp by @xsavannahx987, from their "Regal Living" set; and a floor lamp from @kerriganhouse's "Antique" set!
When I first started playing The Sims 4, I found it hard to find Off The Grid lighting, and I generally only found candles - and even then, most of these still required electricity to function. Once I learned how to make lights Off The Grid, I was off running!
Once the kerosene lamp was invented, most families bought one - or several: they were able to be used for a long period of time, and didn't drop wax anywhere.
I was very happy when I discovered these lamps, and I had the vision in my mind as to what they would have looked like. The globe was decorative, and softened the light of the flame, but the flue/chimney was the functional part: it ensured the flame was steady and used most efficiently. Without the flue, the flame wavers more, burning more of the wick - then it doesn't last as long (and produced unsightly smoke!).
SO, I have opened up the globes of these lamps, added a flue and a flame, and made them Off The Grid.
The table lamp has three swatches:

The floor lamp has five swatches:

The lamps are Off-The-Grid; however, you must have the Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack.
Please download the original lamps here: xsavannahx987's "Regal Living" set, Kerrigan House Designs' "Antique" set.
I hope you enjoy using these lamps, as I have!!!

ATCs from November. The first one was a 5"×7" that I chopped up into 4 pieces. All three are acrylic paint on cardstock. The scarecrow was based on a kitsch ceramic piece my aunt has, and the kerosene lamp was based on the one I remember from my childhood when my family and I lived out in the country. We had a lot of rolling blackouts and kept all kinds of light sources around for after dark, including a few of the vintage glass ones. Also it's been foggy and overcast a lot lately so the trees were inspired by the weather.

does anyone here know what oil to use with my oil lamp? the reservoir is ceramic, with an adjustable tubular cotton wick and open top glass chimney. Right now I have crown brand clear lamp oil but a lot of sources online say not to use that because it will ruin my wick. A few sources say to use either aladdin brand or firefly brand lamp oil, but theyre a bit more expensive than what I currently have

The fact that you can get hurricane lanterns off of temu is concerning to me. Those things can NOT be durable, OR work properly

Seaweed
The future costs more in some places. Before the light of day could wash its face and admire its reflection, Lito was already up, toes feeling the coarseness of still cold sand along with other dead things: sea shells, seaweed, and hope that washed ashore. There is no other way but through the mangroves where the water has been kind enough not to claim the lives of the children who tread there.…

"The Gesner" - Oil Lamp
In 1854 Abraham Gesner invented kerosene (or "paraffin"), considered a much "cleaner" fuel, in comparison to previous liquid fuels at the time. It is a clear liquid that has a low scent when burned - and with a proper wick, there should be no smoke.
I have a couple Victorian oil lamps in my own home: one has a globe over a chimney, the other just the chimney (or "flue"); so, I have desperately wanted similar oil lamps for my Victorian Sims.
Using the main base from @vampireloreskill's Keroseeing lamp, I have fabricated my first oil lamp: The Gesner.
There are two versions, Transparent, and Opaque; each of these has an etched globe (very similar to the one I own), as well as two different flower decorations. Each design comes in a golden brass, silver, and wooden base; and the transparent version also features frosted variations.

The lamp is Off-The-Grid; however, you must have the Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack.
I also recommend you take advantage of the light dimmer/intensity tool in Live Mode, to adjust the brightness of the globe to your desire.
Transparent: 15 swatches - three etched transparent, six with flowers; six translucent/frosted with flowers. Opaque: 9 swatches - three etched, six flowers, all opaque/translucent with glow.
The flame inside flickers, just like a real lamp!

Bon Simming! Au revoir!

The absolute otherworldly experience that would be sex at Henry’s place. His strict use of kerosene lamps would pave way to such an enchanting setting. Like just imagine the radiant glow and the little shadows contouring every dip of his body. Tehehehe kicking my feet rn. Also he would absolutely revel in it too, with his affinity for aesthetics and whatnot.

mouse, my dear — you, as always, are so incredibly precise and creative with your submissions, i am stunned anew. admittedly, i've completely banished the detail of him exclusively using kerosene lamps in his home out of my mind! i just dramatically clicked open my digital copy of tsh and browsed it via the find tool, and yup, there it is: I had been told by the twins that Henry disliked electric lights, and here and there I saw kerosene lamps in the windowsills. how painfully, achingly pretentious, and yet so in-character. awe-inducing.
and, well, concerning the notion of having sex in a setting such as this one... god, yes. you've almost drawn it all out for me. that warm, luminous, rich glow; prancing shadows upon the walls, especially when you get to it; light folding neatly into each curve of his body, thereby emphasizing them; the dimmed, scorching, hauntingly ominous atmosphere; the vintage feel of it all... ahhh. god.
try to imagine all the types of sex to be had in this setting and i'm sure you're bound to drop unconscious: rough and merciless as an outlet for tension or punishment; gentle and passionate in the dead of night; breathy and desperate after not having seen each other in a long time; vocal and unwound as a distraction from your studies; drunk and blurry as a celebration of a successful exam. anything — in that deep, brassy golden light, so scorching and yet cooling at once, in a way it is both welcoming and alien.
and yes, he would enjoy it just as much — like you said, for the aesthetic of it above all else. his pretentious vein would throb with excitement, wherefore he would only be motivated to please and appeal to you all the more. the antique air of indulging in the generous delicacies that are your bodies while bathed in kerosene lamp glow... yep, that would scratch an itch or two of his that he never deemed reachable. he would lose himself in the appeal of it; he would only want to have sex at his place from then on, or at the very least enjoy it lots more that way. he'd offer more intimacy to you in this setting as well — letting his lips linger and drift upon your skin longer, with a much more scorching effect, and smearing worshiping remarks in latin and greek into your flesh while he's at it. he would be so lenient, so giving, so good to you; authentically falling in love with him would never seem so appealing.
what a wonderful, mind-numbing thought. thank you. i need a cold shower.
