Random ramblings about my Iife #10

I have an eye exam on Tuesday and honestly I'm terrified.

Sometimes I really do hate having keratoconus.

Mercredi 2 octobre 2024: Aujourd’hui j’ai eu mon rendez-vous de contrôle par rapport à mon Kératocône. J’avais rdv à 11h et le docteur a eu tellement de retard que je ne suis sortie que vers 13h de l’hôpital. Comme d’habitude: pour commencer une infirmière me fait passer sous différentes machines et ensuite je vois le docteur. Conclusion: mon Kératocône ne s’est pas empirer, c’est stable et ça s’est même un petit peu amélioré! Comme d’habitude j’ai des gouttes à mettre, pour hydrater j’en ai un nouveau (mais que j’avais déjà à l’époque), et une ordonnance au cas où je voudrais changer de lunettes (je l’ai fais récemment alors je ne pense pas le faire pour le moment). Et sinon j’ai récupéré le nouveau médicament pour mes intestins. Cette fois c’est une solution à boire 4 fois par jours. Le docteur me l’a prescrit à d’osés pédiatrique afin que mon corps le tolère. Je l’ai commencé aujourd’hui, en espérant vraiment que tout se passe bien avec. Si je tolère bien alors je dois continuer à le prendre pendant 1 mois, puis refaire des analyses de selles afin de voir si ça s’est amélioré. Bien évidemment je vous tiens informé de tout comme d’habitude.

I don’t know, trigger warning for eye pain things? Or eye injury, I guess.

My eye won’t stop burning for some reason. Just the one, the other is fine. I don’t think I hurt it or anything, it’s just burning and stinging for no reason when I blink. Not as bad as the keratoconus treatment, especially when they did both eyes. That was rough. 

Oh well. Just rambling about it because it’s making me really angry right now and nothing I try is getting rid of it. So, I cry about it instead.

Corneal Ulcers: In severe cases, DES can lead to the formation of corneal ulcers, which are open sores on the surface of the cornea. These ulcers can cause significant pain, vision loss, and even scarring.

Corneal Edema: When the cornea is dry, it can become swollen due to the accumulation of fluid. This condition, known as corneal edema, can cause blurred vision, halos around lights, and sensitivity to light.

Progression of Corneal Diseases: DES can exacerbate existing corneal conditions such as keratoconus (a progressive thinning of the cornea), Fuchs' dystrophy (a degenerative condition of the cornea), and pterygium (a fleshy growth that can extend onto the cornea).

Symptoms of Dry Eye and Corneal Involvement:

Symptoms of DES can vary in severity and may include:

Dry, gritty, or burning sensation in the eyes

Redness and irritation

Blurred vision

Foreign body sensation (feeling like something is in the eye)

Sensitivity to light

Eye fatigue

Difficulty wearing contact lenses

Stringy mucus in or around the eyes

Frequent blinking

Causes of Dry Eye Syndrome:

Age: Tear production naturally declines with age.

Medications: Certain medications, such as antihistamines, antidepressants, and decongestants, can reduce tear production.

Medical Conditions: Conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, and thyroid disease can contribute to DES.

Environmental Factors: Exposure to smoke, wind, dry air, and air conditioning can increase tear evaporation.

Contact Lens Wear: Prolonged contact lens wear, especially with certain types of lenses, can irritate the eyes and disrupt the tear film.

Computer Use: Staring at computer screens for extended periods can reduce blink rate, leading to tear film instability.

Treatment Options for Dry Eye Syndrome:

Treatment for DES aims to improve tear quality and quantity. Options may include:

Artificial Tears: Over-the-counter or prescription eye drops can help to supplement natural tears and provide lubrication.

Tear Stimulants: These medications help to increase tear production.

Punctual Plugs: Small plugs inserted into the tear ducts temporarily block tear drainage, allowing more tears to remain on the surface of the eye.

Warm Compresses: Applying warm compresses to the eyes can help to stimulate tear production and loosen any mucus.

Lid Hygiene: Gently cleaning the eyelids with a warm washcloth can remove debris and oil that can block the oil glands.

Lifestyle Modifications: Reducing screen time, increasing blink rate, and avoiding irritants such as smoke and wind can help to alleviate symptoms.

Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplements: Some studies suggest that omega-3 fatty acids may help to improve tear quality.

Preventing Dry Eye Syndrome:

Blink Regularly: Make a conscious effort to blink more frequently, especially when working at a computer.

Hobby Update

I recently got into the Mandrakes bandwagon and I've had 2 games with them so far. They are fun by which I mean they have a lot of options in battle. They are kinda fragile though, with only 8W they can easily fall just by probabilities.
