Just rewatched Astro Boy 09 & man I think the art style choice was good for the times but hoooo I forgot especially after rewatching 03 Astro in Japanese coming straight from that episode 50 into that mess how disappointed English speaking fans would be. I think the writing & some line deliveries weren’t the greatest which is what made the movie weak. More like some dudes fanfiction than an AB movie. But also idk if that’s fair bc I’ve read some rlly top notch AB fic soooo yeah 🤷🏻‍♂️ but also lemme just rant for a min there’s parts of this movie that rlly rlly work & I love I think some of the subtle quick ways were shown Astro’s powers like when he first learns he can fly & then directly afterwards starts digging thru the side of the mountain is great. Also unpopular take prob but I think the president Stone guy kinda works as a surface level AB villain. Def 🤮🤮🤮 @ Tenma’s design ever since I saw the movie in 2010 I’ve always hated bros design but like who doesn’t at this point this is rehashing old news. Also I get that Nic Cage knew the source material & is good on screen but idk if it was his delivery or just his lines written that poorly or if I’m relooking at this post round 2 of 03 anime for me but his char was so off. Also DEF AFTER 03 anime the war between robots/humans getting boiled down to the goofy RRF bots bruh I’d be so pissed if I worked for the companies involved in making this movie. YOU HAD GOOD SOURCE MATERIAL IF U CANT FIT IT ALL IN THE MOVIE DONT INCLUDE IT!!! Also alsoooo again prob reiterating old news but the Amerification & dumbing down of the source material to be more palatable for kids is just sad. Like the movie would’ve functioned exactly the same without a few of those goofy scenes it just stalled the story honestly. You could’ve added more of the other stuff in if that was taken out. Also weird using Tenmas Japanese last name but Ochans English name was always kinda huhhh?? to me. I get it’s for the ease of being able to say their names for everyone outside Japan but if we’re going English names why not just stick with whatever Tenma’s name was in English in the animes since people already knew it?? I kinda prefer Tenma tho & ik not everyone can say Ochanomizu but yeah. The surface kids I used to think in my kid brain were waaaay more fleshed out than they rlly are which is kinda funny since they literally just show up & are there a handful of scenes, handful of lines & then that’s it. I’m torn too bc idk if it was necessary to have the new kids or work in Tamao, Kenichi, & Shibugaki somehow & I liked the new kids too. But man this movies a hot mess. I prob have more thoughts but this posts getting way too long already. This movie was my intro to the franchise when I was a kid & legit did not know what anime was or that a whole thing existed outside of this movie xD I literally always used to wish there was & then like 10 yrs ago at this point after being deep into anime I found out about Astro Boy anime/manga & straight went:

So in conclusion Astro Boy movie ok, has deep place in my heart, animes waaay better & manga: god tier.

I just finished re watching History's Strongest Desciplle for the millionth time and I am full of feelings.

There is an undercurrent theme in many martial arts Shonen anime.

Effort will always beat out talent.

You have to work at what you love. Work and work and work. And someday, your work will pay off. Its all about effort.

In Kenichi, thats certainly one of the messages, but its full if so many others.

Believe in yourself.

Trust yourself. And trust others.

Friendship and love will always be more important than power.

And love, whether its for a friend a lover or even a stranger, love is the only reason any of this is worth it.

Its why we write epic bllads, songs, stories and myths around the subject. Love is at the root of it all.

When we start the show, we see a weak lonely kid, full of self doubt and fear.

By the end of it, we have a young man surrounded by loved one whom he would fight and die for and who would do the same for him. Full of courage and fear, because one cannot exist without the other. And strong. Not in his build. In this show those abs are a dime a dozen. No. Strong of will, of conviction. Of justice. He is loved, not for his powerful arms, but his strong and unweilding heart.

"Yanmar Family Hour Fly! Son Goku " (Yanmar Family Hour Tobe Songoku) will air from October 11, 1977 to March 27, 1979 every Tuesday from 19:00 to 19:30 ( JST ) on TBS and other channels . Broadcasted TV puppet show and Yanmar Diesel (currently Yanmar Holdings ) provided by one company and the company's crown sponsor program . All 74 episodes.

Outside the affiliates, Akita Broadcasting , Yamagata Broadcasting , Kitanihon Broadcasting ( Nippon Television affiliated ) was broadcast on Sundays 12:15-12:45 (JST) until April 1, 1979.

The members of Drift, which has a motif of "Journey to the West", are compared to the characters of the main family, and dolls that look just like the members appear. Each member gave a voice. Because there were 5 drifters compared to the 4 people in the original Sanzo party, Only Katocha plays the role of "Kato", a drunken bald father who is his representative character ("Kato" in the opening telop, Or "Kato"). Additionally, the characteristic high-pitched cry of the horse accompanying the party, "Hihihahahaha," It was by Shinji Suwa, who was an associate member of Drif at the time. There are also dialogues such as dialogue with Sanzo, His line is also included in the insert song. Other than this, former member Chu Arai also makes a guest appearance.

The story follows the main line of Journey to the West, Like "8 o'clock! All members gathering" broadcasted on the same TBS, Many popular singers, actors, and comedians of the time appeared as guests in the characters and original characters of Journey to the West.  The slapstick gag that unfolds with this guest was the feature and charm of this puppet show.

Pink Lady appeared in live action as a Kyogen mawashi role in the program, He also sang the theme song "Super Monkey Son Goku" at the show's opening. When changing cuts, Pink Lady and Candies Jr. (later renamed "Triangle") Along with the scene change, a bridge was inserted that sang a short song explaining the situation of the story. In front of the commercial, there is a corner entitled "Let's play with pink!" There was also a scene where a child dressed as Son Goku, who was apparently solicited from the viewers with the Pink Lady and made a match. 

At that time, manga adaptations of TV works for children were popular, This work was also made into a manga by Ao Yamane, It was serialized in "TV Magazine" (Kodansha). Talk to Kenichi. He's the busiest guy in town. He has been doing Bocelli concerts. Bocelli had to cancel a couple of times. Came out on the stage to assure audiences that their tickets were good for a performance at some point in the future. These are big Christmas shows, with a local chorus and all the trimmings. Kenichi said Bocelli entertained by playing the piano a bit and sending the crowd home happy.

How old is Bocelli? Such a strange stories Bocelli lovers promote.

A call from AB. He has contracted Covid and wants me to teach for him tomorrow. A number of percussion students, starting at 7:45 in the morning, ending 4:30ish. This will help with that exorbitant dental bill. (I've already paid it...but still have much excavation...)

Head off to the dentist. Much work follows. I leave with a gaping hole in my mouth, where a molar existed. I am given a page of instruction.

Boarding the bus for the East Side I find out that my Senoir Metro Card has expired. A bad omen. Arrive at the school (Allen Stevenson, where I taught decades ago) and the kids, one at at time, begin showing up. This kind of thing has its inevitable ups and downs.. Some kids are prepared, with others you're just babysitting. My long day somewhat brightened when the final kid, a beginner, shows great promise.

Another glimmer of light: I get an email telling me that I must take a payout from my small investment fund with the bank. (It's called a RMD.) It doesn't state the amount, but this too will go towards dental work.

At home I nurse a sore jaw and, following instructions, do not smoke my pipe. (I miss it.)
