OC in 15: Kendis Crawford-Louel
rules: share 15 or fewer lines of dialogue from an OC, ideally lines that capture the character/personality/vibe of the OC. Bonus points for just using dialogue without other details about the scene, but you're free to include those as well!
I was tagged by @deepinifhell and am woefully delayed in getting on this.
Tagging: @thedeadthree @thee-morrigan @nat-seal-well @nightingalesighs @laufire @lusavors @cypresswrites @thelittlestspider @mt07131 @roxaro @quaxorascal @tuomniia @andthatisnotfake @sunshineandviolets @sapphic-story [tagged fifteen peeps! i think! and as always no pressure!]
Most of the dialogue from old rp stuff repurposed for this meme, some from unposted stuff, and a few I made up for this. (As warning: some cussing)
-----
1] However, strangeness of the situation proves that the metal gates aren’t fully down around the castle, because she bites out, bluntly, “No! No. I’m not okay.” Her breath hitches. “Don’t. D-don’t follow that up with another question. I thought we talked about this.”
By ‘we’ and ‘talked’, she meant the time she summarily shut down his last attempt to dig deeper. It should’ve been obvious by now that Kendis didn’t like accepting what they insisted on dishing out.
-
2] "Yook, Kenny, yook!"
"What'm I lookin' at, teeny tyke? --- Well, now. Look at that! Is that me? In fact, I know that's me. That's the second prettiest person in this entire art of prettiness. And is the one right next to me you? It's got to be 'cause that's definitely the prettiest person in this."
"You siwwy, Kenny. Boys not be pretty!"
"Am I? Well, if you're sayin' that's right then I'll consider it. But being silly doesn't mean I'm wrooooong~. Boys can be very pretty, kiddo. People can be whatever they wanna be so long as they're --- kind, yeah? And you're the kindest, prettiest, most talented teeny tyke, I've ever known. Oh, now you're laughin' at me, huh? Well, Ima show you 'bout that teeny brat."
-
3] "Who invented white allosexuals, like for real? Someone return this woman to sender."
-
4] "We're not even four days into a fucking New Year and this shit stain is stinkin' up the place."
-
5] "And I get that it's different things for different people. But I rather lose a place, than lose the people that matter with it."
-
6] "I know you've probs been lied to lately. But you're really not cute."
-
7] "He obvi picked bad pics on purpose, you Italian booger."
-
8] "I'm like Siri. Except better looking, smarter, much louder, and not an AI slave to a hegemonic hell-hole that stole the name of one of the best fruits. Like ever."
-
9] "Um, excuse you. I'm not reckless. What 'bout me screams the self sacrifice type?"
-
10] "Hey. Hey! Look at me! That's it ... slow breaths. I've got you. Do you -- you're okay, slowly ... Do you remember what I told you last week? Just nod. I've got you. I've got ya. You remember this? That's my pinky. We pinky promised -- the biggest and most bindable way to lock in a promise, yeah? And you may not know this about me, but I don't make promises that I can't see through. I said you're gonna be okay. And I mean that. I'm gonna make it happen, okay? I'll -- I'm here now and I'll be there at the end. Prommy, prommy, prommy, prommy, pro -- oh, a laugh, huh? Ha. That's what I like hearing. Leave the worryin' to me, dude."
-
11] "If this human version of a mutated ingrown armpit hair follicle don't get up off my face in the next 10, 9, 8, 7, …."
-
12] “Ow! Fudging snowcaps! That bitch hur –” They stopped mid-yelling but simply began complaining underneath their breath.
-
13] "I'm --," Kendis gestured sharply with their right hand as if orchestrating their feelings or encouraging Morgan to jump in. Not that they gave her much of a chance when they quickly added, "You know."
"You're?" Morgan smirked, "You know? I don't think I do."
"Yes. You do."
"Nah, nothing's ringing a bell."
"Well, that's probably all the brain damage you got from the last fight."
"Right. I remember that. The fight where I got stabbed instead of you."
Kendis' nostrils flare and their jaw clenches so tightly Morgan almost feels a sympathy twinge in her own teeth.
-
14]
“Then why won’t you tell me you love me? Maybe a little reward so I can be brave?”
“‘Cause a face full of kisses wasn’t enough? Wow.”
“Sure,  it was nice but this is a big deal. I think I deserve a bigger reward.”
“Aren’t rewards for after you actually do the stuff?”
“You’re right. How about you say ‘I love you’ just because you do!”
“You look cute when you pout an’ you’re gonna be late.”
“Please, Kendis? We’ve been dating for a while now and … That is – Unless – You don’t.”
“I don’t what?”
“You know you are always avoiding it, saying how you feel about me, and you’ve never come close to saying the words .. and sometimes I’ve wondered … I’ve been very patient the last several months –”
“Then keep on with that.”
“Okay. Okay. Kendis. Do you love me?”
“Can we talk about this later? This ain’t as black an’ white as you’re making it look like.”
“But it is.  It is a very black and white question with a very black and white answer. Do you love me?”
“Austyn. Austyn? Stop that! What’re you doin’?  Don’t. You’re – fuckin’ –”
“These are the notes I wrote you. Look at them. Look how far they reach on your floor. Look!”
“No”
“You never even wrote it back. I kept saying it and writing it and you never gave anything back … B-because … because you don’t.”
“I never gave – We’re not doin’ this right now. Again. Why’re you doin’ this right now? We don’t even have the time to really get into -”
“What is there to get into?  It’s yes or no,  Kendis! If you say that, then it will be all settled.”
“Maybe stop cuttin’ me off an’ let me speak.”
“You cut me off first! And don’t you start raising your voice at me!”
“You started that shit first, yourself! What is with you?”
“Why are you acting like I am overreacting? I’m not! It isn’t wrong to want to know whether or not my best friend is in love with me. It isn’t wrong to know if you really see a future with us together or if you’ve been just tagging along because I’m one of the very few other out girls in school.”
“You called me your best friend.”
“What?”
“You should know how I feel. You say I don’t give you nothin’ back but that’s a damn lie an’ you know it.”
“Then why don’t you say it? I say it all the time!”
“But are you really meanin’ it?”
“Uh - Wha – EXCUSE ME!?!!”
“Are you? How can I say those words to someone that's not a sure thing? You talk a lot about a future that ain’t here but what you really got to say for the now.”
“Wow. Asshole.”
“Takes one.”
“Fine. Don’t love me. I think it’s best if we take some space right now and reconsider our priorities.”
“Austyn. I didn’t mean – Austyn this is silly.”’
“Is it?”
“Why're we even doin’ this right now? What about the formal?”
“Don’t call me unless I call you.”
“Austyn!”
“Don’t.”
“You know what? Fuck you.”
“Apparently not even in the next few months, asshole.”
-
15]
Kendis narrowed her eyes but forced herself to take a deep breath, “You. Bumped into. Me!” Honestly, that was a generous and kind assessment. If Kendis had been human, she doubted she would’ve been able to stand with only a headache and a bad mood to show for it.
“Yeah, because you slowed down when you weren’t supposed to! I was keeping pace with you, speeding by the way, and then allva sudden –”
“I know you’re not blaming me for any of this, let alone your speeding, you Stranger Things reject.”
“Excuse me?”
Kendis felt that anger again – no, they could almost taste it. It was just wafting off the air from the shifter in front of them. It was churning up their stomach like sick, this anger that wasn’t their rage.
It was restless, like her’s was, but was also too hard, too cold.
Not right, not right. The warning blared in Kendis’ gut. Something was off and they needed to leave.
“Don’t!” They warned when the person reached out to grab at them, clearly making Kendis ready to skedaddle. The sharp yell struck out like a roll of thunder, loud and final enough to make this person hesitate, before Kendis’ voice dropped into a growl, “Don’t. Touch. Me.” [x]

wip wornsday
@magebastard tagged me fifty eleven years ago to post a wip but at the time i didn't have anything i was working on. and now i do! sooooo, yeah lol. technically this is a cheat but technically it's not (as tho i posted the narrative, it is a part of a bigger thing. so still a wip, yes?) this is a flashback/backstory piece for a teenaged kendis and their first love for a rp i'm in.
tagging: @sustainably-du-mortain @griffin-wood @wayhavenots @ava-du-mortain @thedeadthree @aeruh @honeylemonbutte and whomst ever else!
Kendis’ breath caught in her throat as her heart thumped hard for a different reason. She rolled her eyes and bit the inside of her cheek to keep from smiling.
But Austyn saw. She saw everything about her. Even the things Kendis wasn’t ready to say out loud.
Thin, long fingers reached up to tuck her short curls and for a moment Kendis’ head leaned against the gentle touch, reveling in the feel of the soft fingers soothing the tension that seemed to always thrum through her.
The moment splintered like a snapped rubber band when Kendis caught the look in Austyn’s gaze.
Kendis could read Austyn too. She wished she could say that she didn’t like what she saw but she couldn’t. Smugness made Austyn's eyes twinkle. And Kendis waited for the sensation of feeling trapped, of feeling tricked and frustrated, because as angry as she might have been with Austyn at the moment - in this past week - there was no denying that she wanted to kiss the older girl again. Kendis wanted to press her into the bed and just … (her heart skipped and her cheeks warmed at the ridiculous thought …) inhale her.
Somehow she had ended up here. Except it was no mystery. No more of a mystery than how a fish ended up caught at the end of hooks since time immemorial. The thought suffocated her, but it also warmed her. They were teenagers — neither of them foolish or romantic, neither of them unaware of the intensity of their feelings or the consequences of being together, yet here they were. Willingly. Kendis almost wished she could feel badly about this. Even at sixteen there wasn't much that could make her bend.
The most she could say is that it rubbed her wrong, so she did:
“You’re a blister up my asshole sometimes, you know that, Aust?” Kendis swung off Austyn, stepped off the bed and let her long legs take her across the room. As if space from the other girl would grant her clarity of a purpose that was stronger than the desire to rub her nose against Austyn’s throat. To kiss her there and —
“You’re running away from me now?” The hurt in Austyn’s voice was genuine; as genuine as the purposeful choice of words. Ninth grade might have been when Kendis had fallen in love but tenth grade was when Austyn had taunted her - long story short - into whatever is the piss they have now.
Attending school mostly dressed in black or bold colors with a smart mouth as well as a bored look on her face, most people could read Kendis as someone who revealed in doing the opposite of what she was ordered. However, it was Austyn who truly figured how she couldn’t resist a challenge, no matter how detrimental. (Maybe she wasn’t as mature as she thought.)
[‘Yes, kids. Back then your mom and I weren’t dating. Yet we were dating. She wasn’t not my girlfriend, but she wasn’t not not my girlfriend. Does that make sense? At the end of the day, what matters is your mom was my best friend. Except when she pissed me off. And sometimes even then …’ A fish on a hook, indeed.]

tell us more about kendis pls. 👀👀👀
i need to know more about ur ocs bcs they're so interesting. you always develop them so well. 👁️👁️
I don't even know what to say? qwere roflmao. What do you want to know, anon? (THOUGH, thanks so much for the compliment :-D)
I've been writing Kendis since 2019. At least a version of her. The first concept of Kendis, the og of most ogs was never written, but she was a free-wheelin', hot mess. This was back in 2018. I THINK. I ended up tweaking her and creating Kendis Crawford-Gagne. The proto-Kendis. She was a bit sweeter, a lot more femme, more of the drunk girl you meet in the bathroom. A touch less chaotic. But very much selfish, stubborn, into science, and willing to go all out for a loved one.
This Kendis' mom died when she was young, she was raised by her older (half) brother -- and somewhat by her dad who loved her but was still grieving.
That Kendis was 18. KCL - Kendis Crawford-Louel - came about because I wanted an older Kendis. This Kendis was more queer -- I felt more comfortable in exploring her as a demi-girl (not right away, but eventually. Had to go through the crisis of 'can I as a cis person do this?'). I changed a lot of her backstory too so I think that changed a lot of how they presented themselves. And I think also that KCG was human and KCL was not also really changed their outlook in life, and thus behavior.
This all sounds very boring and tl;dr. LMAO. I'm sorry anon, I don't have anything intriguing to share. Hrm, I guess I could say:
og KCL is the youngest of four -- there is their half-brother Ben and two sisters from Ben's dad, that they consider their own sisters. And I tend to carry Ben over in their canons if they don't have siblings as a cousin or someone who used to baby sit her. Kendis changes a lot of they don't have youngest child syndrome lmao.
Kendis is almost always a creature. The only acception is TWC Kendis, but they have the speshul blud~~. og KCL is a three-beast (a creature of my making). kotsam Kendis is a draka. Exile Kendis is a mythosi (wolf). twc au Kendis is a werewolf.
And sometimes they're a creechur with elemental powers bc I'm extra like that
Kendis is usually demi-romantic bisexual. KCG was demi-sexual, bi-romantic. Kendis will always be on the ace spectrum and bi.
KCG and KCL were sickly as kids. KCG lost her mom. KCL lost their first (and only) love. It was ... a mess. LMAO. Austyn Blanchard. I still keep Austyn in most Kendis' backstories. Austyn is replaced by Syfyn in the Exile.
Kendis loves fashion. Money. Independence. Their people. Nature. Animals. Kids. They love trying new activies and hobbies, I usually go with hiking and pottery for them. I'm not sure why on the pottery.
Kendis (most of them) abhors violence against living beings (which ofc is a thing I've explored with them, because terrible) but isn't against fucking up privite and public property.
I've written Kendis as a parent before and I love. Of course, they were a single parent. Kendis and romance is --- roflmao. (I don't usually do romance with my characters. But Kendis. lmao. Ahhh, Kendis.)
Kendis isn't touch averse (they've had sex) but Kendis is very big about being the one to initiate touch and having people check in with them always before touching them. Touch can make them feel clausterphobic at times -- or not exactly touch but people pressing into their boundaries/personal space. I once took a love language quiz and they scored 0% for touch. Even Andy didn't score that low. LMAO.
Kendis is probs one of my characters with the most sympathy, but they're also probs one of my most frustrated. And selfish. It leads to fun times.
This was actually fun, so thanks <3

Did I miss a chapter in kendis lore? Who's austyn? 👁️👁️🫣🫣
I also had another question where do u find such gorgeous face claims? And how do u come up with such great oc designs? 👀👀
you're so cute. Kendis lore 233we q<3
Well, since you asked [and I don't get to talk about austyn a lot] Okay, so TL;DR TIME.
Og, OG Kendis - Kendis Crawford Gagne - lost her mom. Rather young from cancer [if I recall right]. It definitely impacted her a lot. However, when I ended up playing Kendis in another RP game, I really liked the backstory we [me and her older Ben's wrietr] had for the mom [we ended up getting her played too for a bit which was FUN!] i was like what if she lived~~ But I also wanted the impact of lost in Kendis' history [bc im unimaginative and couldn't think of another trauma point --- though I ended up doiing so, but that's another story], I came up with Austyn.
Austyn Blanchard basically - or actually - was Kendis' first love. But she died when Kendis was eighteen thanks to drunk driving [I can't remembebr if I said Austyn's or the other driver's. probably both]. Austyn was very much teen Kendis' opposite? In a sense that her family was wealthy - where as Kendis' had been lower middle class and was moving toward middle middle by the time Kendis came around/grew older - and popular ... where as Kendis' mother was seen as an outsider and that weird witch woman. Because she was bi and Kendis' parents were polyam.
Anyway they weren't in each other's circle but came to know each other bc Kendis babysat Austyn's younger sibs. They fell in love but it was hard for Kendis to say the L world and Austyn could never publicly date a woman because her parents were super christian, and a face of that community. [They had plans of being together after HS!!] But then Austyn died. LMAO.
It's in part why Kendis ended up going through to medical school, because that had been their dream. Austyn as a lawyer and Kendis as a doctor [for KCG it had been bc her mom's death. Death leading to healing and ambitions etc etc]
Anyway, it DEVASTATED Kendis. And if it wasn't for her brother Ben -- yikes. Anyway, they moved past it but they also ... kinda didn't lmao.
[I also played around with the idea that Austyn might've been the reincarnated love of Kendis' past life*. But I never settled on it because I'm not a big fan of soulmates.]
If you want to be sad, here is their playlist. And their tag.
[I shall answer your question in another post bc this shit is long.]

It's so nervewracking sending random numbers out into the dark when I don't know what songs they correlate to but aldskfjlsadjf 24 and 44?
I'm coming back for 24, @watertribegirl. 44 just got long, and I dislike all my thoughts and ideas for 24.
who: austyn and joshua.
what: “Girls love each other like animals. There is something ferocious and unself-conscious about it. We don't guard ourselves like we do with boys. No one trains us to shield our hearts from each other. With girls, it's total vulnerability from the beginning. Our skin is bare and soft. We love with claws and teeth and the blood is just proof of how much. It's feral.
And it's relentless.” ― Leah Raeder, Black Iris
when: how it really all started.
44. Teeth
He started it.
It was the only way Austyn could justify herself: he started it.
Joshua might not have realized that he had started, what he had begun, it at the time — goodness knows Kendis didn’t still get it, goodness knows that Kendis still didn’t know what he’d done (.... at least she didn’t think; it’d taken Austyn quite a while to see his game, and she was on the outside looking in. For now) — after all, getting your locker moved near someone else’s was a simple enough act.
People did it all the time for various ridiculous reasons. This was high school. The rationael didn’t need good reason as long as the act got you what you wanted.
And that move had clearly gotten Joshua what he’d desired.
Austyn took a slow deep breath as she unclenched her fingers around the scissors.
Unfortunately, for Joshua that was what she wanted too.
Proximity to Kendis.
It started simply enough. Kendis turning down baby-sitting opportunities to watch the Blanchard’s youngests - time Austyn previously spent lolly-gagging by the stairs before cheerleading practice waiting just for the minute the other girl arrived to descend in her short uniform - to work on her project with Joshua.
But one project turned into another. Then after-school time became the two of them sitting together during lunch. Austyn could no longer have a second of free time teasing Kendis at the library without Joshua being there.
He was always there!
Her entire body tightened in frustration. It was a wonder that the lockers in the basketball team’s locker room didn’t bend under the force of her concentration. Austyn wasn’t a violent person but she itched to slam the blunt of the scissors against the shiny burgundy metal.
As she had with the scissor handle she forced herself to unclench. She only had a limited amount of time for it before someone caught her but she counted down from forty. (The way Kendis had once shown her.)
It was as if her crush had gained an unwelcome and unwanted growth. One who knew exactly what he was.
One who –
“It’ll be a lot easier to destroy my jersey if you don’t break your fingers with those scissors.”
Even during a meet, Austyn had never wanted to jump so high — she was biting down on her tongue to keep from showing how badly he startled her.
“Here.” Except she didn’t turn to face him. Instead, she watched through the mirror, bewildered, as he tried to hand her his jersey.
“Did you change your –”
“What are you doing?”
He stared at her silently with that disdainful way that gained most everyone’s admiration but managed to annoy her almost as much as it annoyed Kendis. He was like a cat.
A spiteful, petty little cat. Austyn felt she would’ve liked him if not for …
She kept her shoulders straight underneath his withering yet impassive gaze. Sometimes she felt like —
No. She doubted there was really a person who truly understood Joshua. But sometimes Austyn felt his movements, though opposite from hers, were familiar.
“Isn’t this what you wanted?”
“How - Who -”
This is the first time Austyn’s ever seen him smile so widely outside of Kendis’ presence. It almost reaches his eyes.
Austyn lets out a shaky breath and places down the scissors.
“I’m not your competition.” He seems unbothered – and she wonders if she’s tricking herself into thinking that he isn’t, or if she’s really learned to read him as unfortunately clearly as he’s learned to read her. “She’s not interested in me”
Austyn blinks. And blinks. And then blinks again.
Not for the first time, she wondered how someone so smart could be so stupid.
