Though she’s hardly in the film, I’m actually pretty fond of this cute, goofy, tentacled monstress! ^^

Classic Danger Mouse Brief Summaries.

So I’ve decided to binge watch the original series for the first time in years. Yes, I know I probably should have gone back to it sooner what with my love of the 2015 reboot, but anyway. I’m doing brief summaries of each episode as I go through them so I hope you don’t mind the sudden bombardment of these sort of posts. Got a favourite episode? Tell me :)

Pilot - The Mystery Of The Lost Chord

DM and Penfold go to Scotland where living bagpipes have been stolen by Greenback and 2 crows rather than just Stilleto. DM somehow apparently turned an entire hotel around so a mechanical Loch Ness Monster wouldn’t attack them. Colonel K wants a cup of tea. Penfold playing the trumpet helps save the day.

The pilot does not have what became the regular cast, and there’s no end credits so voice actors for it are unknown. Penfold has a bad Welsh accent.

S01E01 - Rogue Robots

We have our official regular cast of David Jason, Terry Scott, Edward Kelsey and Brian Trueman.

Greenback sends little bizarre robots to attack HQ and DM does some fancy footwork whilst fighting against Greenback’s big cat robot.

S01E02 - Who Stole The Bagpipes

A re-dub of the original pilot. Some plot elements are changed such as DM didn’t rotate the hotel and the monster was just confused on it’s own. Penfold no longer uses a trumpet to save them and DM’s singing can bend steel. I’d like to see him do that now.

S01E03 - The Trouble With Ghosts

Colonel K (being instructed by Greenback) tells DM and Penfold to go on holiday and that there happens to be a nice hotel in Transylvania. Greenback mechanical monster shenanigans ensue. Much better animation and a hint of what feels like Chuck Jones inspired jokes makes this also one of the most amusing episodes so far.

Penfold: “Aargh! Vampires! Help! Help!" *much screaming ensues*

DM (deadpan): “Well done, Penfold. Don’t let them see you’re frightened.”

S01E04 - Chicken Run

Introduction of the original Prof Squarkencluck. The Professor creates a serum to make things bigger which is stolen by Greenback. Cue giant chickens. First time actual humans (or at least their legs) are shown.

*DM and Penfold have a giant egg dropped on them*

DM: “Penfold, we have a problem.”

P: “What’s that, sir?”

DM: “Where can we get a rasher of bacon five yards long?”

S01E05 - The Martian Misfit

Greenback plans to steal the strongest diamond in the world and use it as a drill head. To distract DM and Penfold, he sends a mechanical martian to scare them into believing the Earth is being invaded. Some amusing re-use of animation from the opening title sequence.

P: “Crikey, DM! It’s attacking the Telecom tower!”

DM: “No accounting for taste; I would have picked Nelson’s column.”

S01E06 - The Dream Machine

In a mission to rescue the kidnapped Colonel K, DM and Penfold get trapped in Greenback’s ‘Dream Machine’ and must find their way back out. Visuals include brief homages to Scooby Doo, Yellow Submarine and Terry Gilliam.
