You grin as Yoongi walks towards the white door. The same one from the Amygdala video that he struggled with due to his trauma and his fears. He opens it, steps inside, turns to face the crowd with a massive smile, and closes the door. The title card comes on the big screen with your favorite phrase in the center.
Future’s Gonna Be Okay.
You’re pretty sure you’ve cried off most of your makeup at this point, but you’re still smiling, overwhelmed with pride and joy for your boyfriend. Twenty eight shows across the world and he did it. He put everything out there and he gave it his all.
Every show was perfect. Every show meant so much to him and probably even more so to ARMY. You can hear it in the way they sing back to him, the way they chant his name or the BTS chant. You can see it across their faces, in their eyes and the way they grin so happily just from him being on stage. It’s why you love being in the audience so much.
Is it a risk? A little bit. No one knows you exist. You work in the industry, but you’re not known by anyone. So it allows you to get by. Even at HYBE, you worked in the shadows, the credit for your work usually going to someone else. And you never really minded. That was until Yoongi met you and suddenly you wanted to be seen. But only by him.
You’re not the only one risking it by being in the crowd, Namjoon, Seokjin, and Hoseok are all in a group together a few rows over from you. They initially invited you to sit with them, but you like not being looked at. And knowing how important it is that Seokjin and Hoseok are on a personal day from the military to see Yoongi’s final show, being alone feels just fine.
You look over once the lights are on and see an empty group of seats where they were. They probably snuck out before everyone else to avoid getting stopped. Something you should’ve done as well, but you love watching Yoongi too much to think about stuff like that.
You turn, grabbing your stuff and getting ready to head back to the studio where you two had planned to meet when someone taps you on the arm.
“Y/n? Yoongi wanted to see you.” One of his managers whispers Yoongi’s name quietly and you quickly nod, following after him in an attempt to not have anyone notice.
You zig zag your way through the crowd, following closely behind the manager until you walk through two heavy doors and you’re suddenly backstage where the fans yelling is fading away thanks to the soundproofing in the room.
“Y/n!!” You turn to find Hoseok and his big beautiful smile and you want to cry again as he wraps you in a hug.
“Hobi!” You squeak as he spins you in the hug, “oh my god, I’ve missed you so much!!” You cry when he sets you down, taking a step back to fully admire him.
“You look so different, Hobi. You’ve been eating well? They’re taking care of you?”
“Yes yes yes. I’m fine, y/n.” He laughs, being slightly shoved to the side by Seokjin who has his arms out for a hug already.
“Excuse me, it’s my turn. Admire me.” He sasses, making you laugh as you get on your toes to wrap your arms around his broad shoulders.
“You look even more handsome than before, Jin.” You give him an extra squeeze in the hug before letting go, turning to Namjoon and biting back a smile as your gaze lands on his fresh buzz cut.
“Don’t.” He says with a straight face, making it even harder for you to suppress your grin. “Don’t even say it.”
“You look silly.” You give him an innocent smile as his adorable dimples poke through. “Your song was amazing, Joon. Can't wait for the rest.”
He pulls you into a hug and you feel a sigh of relief. You can’t tell if it’s from you or from him, but you’d be lying if you said Namjoon didn’t give the most comforting hugs.
You’ve told Yoongi before that if you were ever going through something, you think a Namjoon hug would solve whatever the problem was. Yoongi, of course, agreed.
“Thank you.” Is all he says before another door opens and Hoseok and Seokjin are whooping at your boyfriend. You step back, allowing his brothers to attack him with praise and love.
He steps through the door, fresh white shirt on, hair miraculously dried, and looking as if he didn’t just leave his heart and soul on stage. He has a beautiful gummy grin plastered to his face as Hoseok runs to him, pulling him into a tight hug. Seokjin and Namjoon stand off to the side singing praises. Or more like Namjoon praising and Seokjin teasing him about any flubs he had made.
You lean against the wall, letting them have their moment to talk, take photos, and just be together. The fact that Seokjin and Hoseok were able to get today off to come see your boyfriend is a miracle. Seeing them means so much to Yoongi, you know he won’t fully express it, but his eyes lit up so bright when he was told earlier this morning they were attending. So, who are you to interrupt this family moment?
You know what’s coming after today. You’ve been dreading it. After the first twenty shows, you started counting down the next five. How soon until that announcement is made? How many more days do you have him? Then the encore shows were announced and you felt like you could breathe just a little longer.
But then these shows got closer and you felt a jolt of sadness every time you looked at Yoongi. You’re not ready for him to go. But you hold that feeling inside instead, smiling and enjoying every moment you have with him. And, now that the tour is done, you have all the time in the world before that dreadful announcement.
“Jagiya! What are you doing?” His voice brings you out of your mental argument, eyes finding his immediately.
“I’m giving you a moment with your brothers.” You shrug, offering a small smile as you step forward, hand automatically reaching out for his own that he had silently put out for you.
“Nonsense.” He murmurs, pulling you to him. “Did you have fun?”
“Of course I did. I’ll remember this show for the rest of my life.” You sneak a kiss quickly before he has a chance to deepen it, feeling proud when his hand tightens around yours as you turn to Hoseok.
“I assume drinks and food?”
“Of course. Jimin, Tae, and Jungkook are meeting us at HYBE.”
“Excellent! I’m starving.”
“We’re gonna head over right now, we’ll see you two there, okay?” Namjoon offers a knowing smile to Yoongi who shares a small laugh before the three depart. You move to step away from Yoongi, but he tugs you back until your chests are almost touching.
When you question him, his eyes meet yours briefly before trailing down to your lips.
“I just need a moment with you.” His lips meet yours, his hand dropping yours in favor to cup your face in both hands, keeping you close. You grip his shirt, standing up straighter to press into him.
You love kissing him. You love his lips. You love his hands. You love his body. You love how caring he is with you. How he can switch from sweet and loving to pinning you down and controlling the entire moment. You love how easy it is to get lost in him. It’s so easy. Just one look, one touch, one kiss, and you’re gone. But the reminder of the impending announcement creeps back into your mind and you can feel the tears start to fall into his hands, causing him to pull away from you in confusion.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Liar.”
“I promise. I'm fine. I’ll be fine.” You choke out a laugh, eyes shutting in an attempt to squeeze out the remaining tears. “We should go, Yoongi. Or do you have more to do here?”
“Nah. Let’s go.” He whispers, wiping the leftover tears from your cheeks.
The ride back is quiet. No radio, no talking, just you, Yoongi, and a manager in the back seats while a driver and security are in the front. Yoongi’s fingers are gently intertwined with yours, resting on his lap while his head leans against the headrest, eyes shut while he tries to get some of the rest he’s been deserving of for months now.
You can’t help but watch while he rests, desperately saving the view to your memory. You’ve only known him a few years, dating a little less of that time, but you can see the difference between Yoongi then and Yoongi now.
The Yoongi filled with so much trauma and anxiety and fear is no longer in that beautiful face. He no longer hides behind those beautiful brown eyes. He doesn’t shut himself off from the world anymore. He’s happy, he’s laughing more, his eyes shine bright, he embraces challenges, he conquers his fears, he loves with everything in him, and he’s not afraid to say it.
You wonder who he’ll be after. If he’ll still be your Yoongi, or if he’ll be someone else to fall in love with all over again. Because there is no other option. You two are forever. You know it, he knows it, the members know it, his family knows it.
“Hajima.” His whisper brings you out of your thought spiral again.
“What?” You whisper back, his eyes stay shut.
“You’re staring.”
You both smile at the same time, his thumb brushing over the back of your hand.
“Nah, your giant head’s in the way of the window. I’m trying to look at the beautiful city passing by.”
“Bullshit.” You snicker at his response, leaning down to kiss his shoulder before resting your head there.
“Mmm. Maybe I just wanna remember this night.”
“By watching me sleep?” His cheek nuzzles against your head, allowing you both to get more comfortable.
“Yes.”
“That’s weird.”
“Could say the same about you.” His eyes open, brows furrowing at the statement.
“I’m perfect.” He states with confidence.
“You are.” You quietly concede, bringing your joined hands to your lips to kiss the back of his hand before settling it back on his lap. You both remain quiet for the rest of the drive back to HYBE.
When you return to the studio, you part from Yoongi, slipping a hat and mask on and trailing behind as you pass through the fans and security. After solidifying your relationship with Yoongi, you found a remote job elsewhere, helping to boost your confidence in a working environment. So it feels both strange and comforting walking into this building without your badge, but instead as Yoongi’s girlfriend.
He steps into the elevator, grabbing your hand and pulling you to his side once the doors close. “I have to do a quick live and then I’ll meet you with the others downstairs, okay?” He murmurs against your temple and you nod, following him out of the elevator. He brings you to a familiar door, giving you another kiss on the cheek before knocking.
“SUGGAAAA!” Jungkook’s voice echoes from the room inside as Jimin opens the door.
“Hyung!” Jimin grins wide, opening the door more for both of you. You step inside to Jimin’s crushing hug as Yoongi stays in the doorway.
“I have to do a live. Ten minutes tops. Did you order food yet?”
“Our Jungkookie reserved your favorite restaurant for just us.” Seokjin laughs.
“Using that CK money well.” You jokingly whisper to Jimin who had already brought you to the couch with Taehyung and Hoseok. Seokjin and Jungkook are sitting with Namjoon at his desk, Namjoon scrolling through his computer to bring up song files.
“Okay. I’ll be quick.” Yoongi hums, closing the door to Namjoon’s studio.
“Did you have fun tonight, Y/n?” Taehyung asks, eyes on his phone.
“Yeah. He was really stellar tonight, wasn’t he?”
“He’s stellar every night.” Jimin offers you a grin and you return one, if only half heartedly. Seokjin forces Taehyung to switch with him so he can sit next to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulder.
“Wanna talk about it?” He quietly asks as the others at the desk talk animatedly about Namjoon’s new music. You shake your head silently, letting out a sigh.
“Do you know when?” You weakly ask.
“That’s a question for him, Y/n.”
“I figured…” Your voice trails off. You know it’s soon. You wouldn’t be shocked if it was the next morning. But not knowing is so much worse, and him not telling you is more painful. You know he’s been busy, and it’s also on you for avoiding the subject every time it’s brought up.
You want to know, but you want to avoid that moment at all costs.
The next ten minutes are spent with your head on Seokjin’s shoulder, Jimin’s hand in yours and watching your new family giggling and making jokes until there’s another knock on the door and it’s Yoongi.
Your Yoongi.
You quickly get up to hug him, tucking your head into his neck.
“Whoa, what happened?”
“I just missed you.”
“I ended it in nine minutes, though?”
“Too long.” You mumble into his neck. The others smile sadly, two of them already having experienced this interaction from a partner.
“Okay, lovers. Let’s go. I’m hungry.” Namjoon stands up, turning off his computer and ushering everyone out the door. You hold Yoongi’s hand like your life depends on it, and Yoongi holds on just as tight.
The dinner was delicious. The drinks hit differently. Seokjin and Hoseok’s boisterous laughter brought you back to happier memories and Jungkook teaching Namjoon the dance to Seven made you and Yoongi giggle endlessly.
Seokjin and Hoseok eventually had to part ways first, heading back to their respective bases first thing in the morning, but both excited to sleep in their own beds for a night. Jungkook had a shoot in the morning for Calvin Klein and Jimin had a meeting in the afternoon. Taehyung only stuck around for the first hour and a half, leaving early out of exhaustion from being in the studio all day.
Namjoon rode back to the studio with you both, needing to finish up his next song while Yoongi just didn’t want to go home yet.
“Your voice must be exhausted, Yoon. We should go home so we can rest.” You whine, following him into his studio regardless.
“Not yet. I don’t want tonight to be over.”
Your heart cracks at that, watching him from the center of his studio as he loads up a playlist, playing it softly in the background and adjusting the lights to dim. He turns to you, head tilting to the side, and reaches out both hands. You shakingly offer him yours, letting out a sigh when he takes them, turning you to move to the couch and lay down with him.
You curl up on his right side, always avoiding the left shoulder so he doesn’t feel any pain, and tuck your face back into his neck, your right hand sliding up his torso to tangle in his hair as your legs tangle up. His hands are rubbing your back and your arm, trying to relax you, getting himself lost in the softness of you.
It’s quiet. Just both of your breathing and two heartbeats in perfect sync.
But you remember Seokjin and Hoseok and suddenly the perfect rhythm is off.
“When?” You whisper against his skin. You feel his chest raise as he takes a deep breath, and lower on the longer exhale.
“They’ll announce it tomorrow afternoon.”
You feel your world shatter. Less than twelve hours from now? That soon?
“But it’ll be like a month until I start.”
“So September?” You try to raise your voice, but you know you sound like a hurt mouse.
“Yeah.” He hums. “But it’ll go by quickly, I promise. You’ll have Namjoon to hang out with, you can sleep at my place with Holly and the cat…”
“If you think I’m not already moving into your place and spending every minute with those two animals, you’ve got me all wrong.” You laugh, tears quietly falling.
“You’ll have to fight my brother for sole custody of Holly.”
“I’ll win. Holly loves me.”
“Like father, like son.” He mutters
“I love you, too.” You smile, reaching up to kiss his jaw. His gummy grin shines through the tears he’s been silently shedding as he pulls you on top of him, bringing your lips to his.
It’s a slow, lazy, exhausted kiss, but it’s deep and it’s desperate to convey a message of love and devotion. Even though I’ll be gone for a while, I will always love you and only you. You hear it in your mind over and over and over with each kiss and with each passing of his hands on your sides. You try to convey your message back in the same manner.
I’ll wait for you. I love you and only you.
You both lose track of how long you lay there for, just kissing. It never intensifies, neither of you even feel like doing more. Just kisses and holding one another for as long as possible.
It’s when you picture the last moments of his tour that you reluctantly pull away from his lips, eyes meeting his with a smile.
“Future’s gonna be okay?” You ask, a small huff of a laugh from both of you.
“다 괜찮아질 거야.” He nods, tucking your hair behind your ear before bringing you down for another kiss.

"thought of calling ya, but you won't pick up. another fortnight lost in america." - taylor swift, 'fortnight'
isn't it ironic that careers can really separate you from what truly made you, you? being a popstar, touring for months on end, surrounding yourself with new people, new opportunities, made it hard for you to reconnect with the people that helped you from day one.
it wasn't like you cut them off, or stopped talking to them. you tried. you really tried, but sometimes life goes on and people forgive and forget. your old life before you started your career was slowly being etched away and replaced with new pieces.
and maybe that was a bad thing.
"on stage in 2 minutes," a voice snapped you out of your trance, you looked up. you looked amazing in your sparkly dress, it was the last leg of your tour and you were touring in europe.
you had been offered to attend a formula one race this weekend after all of your shows had been concluded, you've been thinking about it, but you're not sure you want to go. one of the people from said past was in attendance and you're not sure if you wanted to immerse yourself in that again.
you didn't think about it for long though, you were due for a show and a show was what you're going to give.
it wasn't long until the weekend, friday to be exact and you had accepted the offer of being on the formula one paddock, you knew that a certain ex-boyfriend was going to be there, racing on the track and you were invited personally by him, which was why you were so skeptical to go.
POPSTAR Y/N BREAKS UP WITH F1 DRIVER MAX VERSTAPPEN.
you remembered the headlines, you remembered what you let go of but seeing someone you still loved after your break up almost four years ago stung a little bit.
you couldn't blame him though, you were the one to break things off all those years ago. it wasn't because you had a terrible relationship with him, but it was more because you both didn't have time for eachother and you could see it in his face everytime you came home to monaco after a long show.
"i miss you, when can you finally stay and actually stay awhile?" max's face looked pitiful and you could only look down at your feet, you felt guilty. you wanted this career, he pushed you for this career but sometimes you wished that you could split yourself in two to cater to both his needs and yours.
you look back up at him, locking eyes with his stormy blue eyes, "i don't know maxie, maybe next month? i don't really have a schedule for next month, i can stay in monaco with you for awhile—"
"you said that last month, when are you actually going to be free schatje?"
"max, i can't give you a definite timeline—"
"what's the point of me being in a relationship with you when i can barely see you?"
it hurt to hear those words come out of his mouth.
maybe that's when you finally realized that he deserved someone normal, someone who wasn't a famous singer and could actually spend time and be there for him.
but here you were, amidst the paddock with a singular security guard because you didn't think you needed more than one, considering security around the paddock was tight in of itself.
the red bull's garage had been nice to you, offering you anything you possibly could need while being on a grand prix, you had politely declined any type of special treatment though, wanting to feel like a person for once in your life.
you wouldn't say your job is the hardest in the world, never. doing what you loved while meeting all of your fans was going to be the highlight of your day, but sometimes the job came with crazy fans that would invade your privacy for selfish reasons, and it made you a tiny bit stressed.
you remember starting out from the netherlands, starring in small gigs before getting signed to a mega corporation in america, which was when you moved. you slowly lost contact with your friends, but you were sure they were proud of you although you weren't proud that you lost contact with them.
you knew that if you contacted them that it would be awkward, there was just no way they would even remember you, right?
you were walking about aimlessly around the paddock, it was free practice day which meant that after the allotted time of the free practice, drivers were free to roam around the paddock however they wanted. you were scared on what you had to face today.
you told yourself to just keep calm, take whatever you got this weekend and just react like a sane person.
saturday came and went, you attended the paddock to watch the qualifying session, of course, max came out on top. was it even a surprise to you? you knew he was the best of the best, you never expected less of him, even after all these years.
sunday was here and maybe it was the anxiety, but you felt like throwing up when you saw max approach you.
"y/n, it's good to see you."
god, those eye-smiles. you could never get tired of them.
"hi max, congrats on starting out pole for this weekend," you told him as you shook hands with him, he was all smiles.
it felt good to see him happy.
"how has the paddock been treating you?" max asked, gesturing all around him, "have you tried the food? it's really good."
you nod as you let go of his hand, clasping it with your other hand, a nervous habit, "yeah, the food's good. how have you been? i haven't talked to you in awhile," a nervous laugh bubbled up from your throat, you were nervous to see him, maybe it was those damn butterflies in your stomach that you couldn't get rid of when he looked at you with those blue eyes of his.
"i know, you've been quite busy right?" max laughed at you, he felt silly conversing with his ex-girlfriend like this, like they didn't have a past.
you could only nod and smile back at him, shoulders tense, "yeah, touring's been eventful. it's the last leg of the tour so i decided to come, thank you for the invite by the way, i really appreciate—"
"max, who's this?" a voice came from behind you, quite condescending if you did say so yourself, cutting you off, you turned your head around to see his girlfriend and his girlfriend's child coming into view, walking towards max and wrapping max with her arm as a possessive embrace.
max kissed her cheek, and that hurt. you didn't want to know why, but you knew. he spoke up afterwards, "this is y/n, she's a singer. i wanted her to come because she had a show here, thought the timing was quite convenient for her. y/n, this is my girlfriend, kelly piquet. she's a model."
you extended your hand as a form of hello before introducing yourself, "hello, i'm y/n—"
"yeah, i know who you are," kelly cut you off again, you were quite taken aback by the hostility, your hand left hanging but then again, max was talking to one of his ex-girlfriends. you thought you would react the same way, so you didn't take it too much to heart. her face was something you'd describe as an angry, possessive tiger, brows furrowed, frown on full display.
"i didn't mean to take time away from your boyfriend. i was just having a little chat pre-race," you tried to give her a smile while returning your hand back to your side, but kelly was adamant about standing her ground.
little penelope was looking at you like she had stars in her eyes, you smiled at her. as if it was a sign of whether she should speak up, she starting speaking to you directly, "hi, i really love your songs. do you think you can stay in the red bull garage and we can take pictures together?"
you giggle and bend down to her level and pat her head, "hi little p, of course we can take pictures together— that's if your mother lets me," you acknowledged that this little girl was no ordinary little girl and was your ex-boyfriend's girlfriend's child.
"can we all talk in private please?" kelly excused the three of them away before you could even give her a response but you understood her. standing back up before walking off deeper into the paddock.
Tumblr media
MAX'S POV
"i don't understand why you would invite her!" kelly was pacing around the motorhome, here we were fifteen minutes before race start and here my girlfriend was still yelling over something that happened two hours ago.
"kelly, i just thought it was a good idea. i wanted to invite her because i know p was such a big fan of hers—"
"she's your ex for god's sake, max!" kelly yelled out yet again, "why would i ever approve of her coming to one of your races? let alone be near to p??" her pacing was more feverish now, like she was scared.
i could only sigh, honestly i wasn't too worried about this problem at the moment. the only thing on my mind was the race and only the race.
"look, can we talk about this when i've finished with my race? i really need to focus and you keeping me locked up in here isn't going to help with it," i stood up from my seat, i didn't want to hear anything else come out of her mouth other than a 'okay' and letting me walk out of here.
"don't you think our relationship is at stake here—?"
"if you don't let me go out into the garage, then we're nothing kelly," i say with finality, i wasn't going to let her ruin a race, "i told you, we will solve and talk about this issue later, but you chose to lock me up in here. there will be nothing to salvage if you don't let me do my job."
kelly wordlessly stepped out of the way of the door and let me go, thankfully just with enough time where i could run down and get into the garage, getting me in racing gear.
thankfully the red bull mechanics and officials were understanding enough to let me rush and get inside of my car, getting into the chasis just at the right moment where we would need to drive out.
it was going to be a fine race for me. i knew it. i had enough confidence in myself to know whether i could win a race, and this was one of them.
"and that's p1 max, great race," gp was in my ear, i was proud of myself for winning, but kelly was gnawing the back of my mind. although, the first face i saw when i got out of the car was y/n's.
it felt like my heart stopped beating, i thought i got rid of those stupid butterflies ages ago, but nothing ever beat seeing her smile after i finished a race. she looked so beautiful, so ethereal but i washed those thoughts out of my head.
i had a girlfriend.
i can't run up and hug her because she's my ex. i have a loving relationship in front of me. what was i thinking?
kelly was nowhere to be found in the celebratory pit, i thought that maybe she was still too angry to face me at the moment. it stung a little bit, but she'll get over it. i'm sure.
the night moves on fast, and somehow i found myself still in the garage fixing a few things with the sim, most of the mechanics and staff were long gone. with kelly nowhere to be found. sometimes i felt bad, for still harboring feelings for an ex that left me four years ago.
my relationship with her felt so different with kelly's...
she was like fresh air you would breathe after exiting a club in the middle of the night, the smoke that clouded the air dissipating almost instantly after that fresh air hit your lungs. somehow, even four years later i still find her in little things i do everyday.
against my better judgement, i picked up my phone and i gave her a call.
"hello?"
i breathed out a sigh of relief when i realized she hadn't changed her phone number yet.
"it's me," were the words that left my lips, "you wanna come celebrate with me tonight?" i was picking on my jeans, i didn't want her to say no. i just wanted to spend a little time with her.
"what about your girlfriend? isn't she going to be even more upset with you—"
"can we not talk about her right now?" i closed my eyes and leaned back against the chair i was sitting on, hearing her voice again after a long time just... it felt right.
"max..."
"don't... just don't. i know what you're gonna say and i know it's wrong but i just... i can't do this today. i just won today and the first face i saw was yours, she didn't bother to show up. you can't tell me how to feel, y/n," i rubbed my temples, "meet me in the lobby of my hotel tonight. i just wanna see you."
"if i say okay, will this be a one-time thing?" y/n asked, i could hear the soft rustles of her moving things around, she was probably already in her hotel, resting from her tour when i had called.
"better yet, just drop the address of where you're staying. i'll come to you."
Tumblr media
the first thing max did when he saw you was crash his lips into yours, you wanted to push him away, be the better person and tell him that he has a girlfriend but your arms couldn't do it.
your lips disconnected after awhile, he was breathing heavy, face flushed, hands all over you, "i've missed you."
you hum a response, you could barely get out a response when you feel his lips on yours again, this was wrong. all the alarms in your body were telling you to push him off, to yell at him, to reprimand him for basically cheating on his girlfriend.
but you didn't.
and maybe that made you a bad person, but at the moment you didn't care. you just wanted to feel him once more.
you woke up the next morning, cuddled up against max, both of you bare and indecent. he hadn't left yet, maybe he didn't want to leave.
the reality of last night crashed down onto you as you realized what you've done.
"max?"
"yes, schatje?"
the little nickname he gave you never went away. he used to call you that all the time but the feelings that came with it was no longer endearment but horror.
"you need to get back to your girlfriend, i don't think i can do this," you unwrap yourself from his grasps and sit up, back facing him, tears filling your eyes.
"woah, woah. schatje—"
"please, max. i feel like shit. you have a girlfriend and i just slept with you. last night was a mistake," you breathed out and hugged your knees close to your chest. you felt his hand on your back.
"y/n, what are you saying—" you cut him off before he could say anything else.
"i can't give you what you want max. we can't be together anymore. our story ended four years ago, please don't make this mistake. you're going to regret it," you quickly got up and away from his close proximity and got dressed.
you didn't know how to face him anymore.
"can we please talk about it at least? you can't lie and say that you don't feel the same way i do," max's voice came from behind you, you were pacing around the room, you were stressed. he was sitting there, shirtless with his pants on now.
"i do max! and that's the worst part because i knew you're in a relationship but i still let this happen. i am a horrible person. i love you and it's slowly ruining my life. i should've known better!" you turn around to face him, your face red, tears streaming down your face.
max could only sigh and raked a hand through his hair, "schatje..."
"we can't be together max, you know it. i can never give you what she gives you. she can be with you almost all the time max, you threw that all away for me? for someone who can't give you time of day?!" you sob into your hands.
you felt arms wrapping around you as you sob into his embrace.

MAX VERSTAPPEN BREAKS UP WITH GIRLFRIEND KELLY PIQUET ONLY AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF BEING TOGETHER.
you scroll past that headline as you got ready for your appearance to promote your new album, it came out two days ago and you were to debut the new songs on jimmy kimmel.
the tortured poets department.
you hadn't talked to max ever since that night, ever since he tenderly kissed your forehead and told you it was going to be okay and that he would figure it out. he had been blowing up your phone, asking to meet but you didn't have it in your heart to meet him after destroying his relationship like that.
that was two months ago.
you were due on stage in around an hour and that's where you would sing your heart out, leaving whatever pieces of your old self behind when you slept with max for the final time.
"i love you, it's ruining my life. i touched you for only a fortnight."

Only if it’s You | F.W.
Tumblr media
Title: Only if it’s You (x hermione’ssister!reader)
Requested: Yes/No
Summary: After a successful prank, Fred asks his girlfriend to read to him,
A/N: This is for @anchoeritic’s writing challenge, with the scenario: “character A getting character B’s favourite book just to read it with them.” Though I might have changed it a bit :)
“Hey sis, have you seen where Harry and Ron are?” My younger sibling, Hermione, asked.
I looked up from the Transfiguration essay I was writing, “I think their heading to the courtyard.”
She gave a grateful smile, ‘Thanks sis!” She said before running out of the common room.
As soon as I jotted down the closing sentence of the essay, I heard the familiar loud laughter that belonged to my boyfriend and my best friend.
Fred made a beeline towards me the moment he spotted me on the couch.
“Hello baby girl.” He said, pressing a small kiss on my cheek, before plopping down on the space next to me while George sat opposite of us.
“So, what are my favorite pranksters up to today?” I asked, putting away the essay.
Fred hummed, “Well, we were planning on pulling a prank on that git who was flirting with you last week.”
“Wanna come?” George asked, finishing his twin’s sentence as usual.
I smiled, jumping up from my seat, “I thought you’d never ask.”
The twins exchanged identical grins, “Let’s go then.” They said in unison as the three of us walked out of the common room to set up the prank.
--
“How’s that knot going on there?” George asked as Fred struggled to tie the knot tight enough.
“Not good.” He said, “I can’t get it right. It either becomes too tight or too loose.”
I stepped forward, gently prying his hands away from the rope, “Let me try.”
After tying the rope, I stood up, “How’s that?”
George gave the rope a slight tug, “Perfect.” He said with a satisfied smile, “How did you do it?”
I shrugged, “Devil’s knot.”
Fred chuckled, wrapping his arms around my waist, trapping me in his embrace, “I knew you were on our team for a reason.”
“Because I’m the brains of the operation?” I said.
“Maybe.” Fred teased.
I playfully scoffed, “Maybe? Well, then, I guess I’ll just head back to the common room.”
I then turned on my heel, but before I could goes as far as make a step, Fred’s hand grabbed my arm and pulled me into his chest.
“Nope.” He said with a small smirk, “You’re not going anywhere.”
George laughed, “Are you two sure that you’re just dating. Because you two argue like an old married couple.”
My boyfriend rolled his eyes at his twin, “Like you and Angelina aren’t all lovey dovey.”
“Not as much as you two.” George retorted as Fred stuck his tongue out at him.
I laughed at the exchange, “You two can be so childish at times.”
We then heard footsteps approaching the place we were standing.
The three of us shared a wide-eyed glance before hiding behind the nearest column and watching the prank unfold.
Just as we had planned and expected, as soon as the poor guy stepped under that certain spot, he was doused from the head to toe in slimy green goop and his black hair had turned a shade of hot pink.
The three of us snickered from our hiding place, watching the guy walk off with a pissed look on his face.
Once he was out of earshot, the three of us started having fits of laughter, George was basically sitting on the floor from laughing so hard.
While we were walking back to the common room, Fred kept his arm around my waist. We passed by the poor guy, most of the goop was cleaned off of him but his hair was still pink.
George, Fred and I glanced at each other, biting our inner cheek as it was taking all our willpower not to burst out into another fit of laughter.
The moment we arrived at our destination, Fred and I plopped down on the couch while George headed up to his dorm, muttering something about, “leaving the lovebirds to their business.”
“Are you seriously going to prank every single person that flirts with me?” I asked in a teasing tone, leaning my head against his chest.
He chuckled, “I’m just showing them what happens when they mess with what’s mine.”
“Ya know, it’s hard to believe that you’re Hermione’s sister.” He said, threading his fingers through my hair.
I looked up at him, “Why is that?”
“Well, Hermione’s this stickler to the rules and uses her every waking moment to study kind of girl. But you, you study hard and still manages to be the top of the class. But you know how to relax, how to take a break. You’re able to find some sort of balance between the two.”
I chuckled, “Well, that is her problem sometimes. Even as a kid, it took a lot of bribing from our parents to convince her to play out in the sun instead of staying in her room with her nose in a book.”
“I think Hermione got her love of reading from you.” He said.
“Of course, she did.”
We sat in silence for a few minutes before Fred said, “Can you read to me?”
I looked at him in surprise, “I thought you didn’t like reading.”
“Yeah, but I rather enjoy it when you’re reading to me. Only if it’s you.” He explained with a sheepish grin.
I smiled, “Okay then, what story do you want?”
He shrugged, “How about one of the stories you read before you found out that you were a witch. Just surprise me love.”
“Okay then. Don’t go anywhere.” I said with a grin as I bounded up the stairs to my dorm but taking a little detour to Ginny’s.
“Hey Ginny! Hey Hermione!” I said as I saw the two of them sitting on Ginny’s bed, chatting.
“Hey Y/N!” Ginny greeted.
“What’s up?” Hermione continued.
“Did you happen to feed Fred anything unusual today?” I asked the youngest Weasley.
She furrowed her brows, “No, why?”
“That’s because he’s asking me to read to him.”
“What?!” The two girls said in awe.
“But how-“
“I have no idea.”
Ginny chuckled, “You’re really one of a kind Y/N. If anyone could tame the great Fred Weasley, that’s you.”
After sharing a small laugh, I headed up to my dorm and grabbed my favorite book.
--
“What story have you got there?” Fred asked, resting his head on my lap as I settled back on the couch.
“My favorite story.” I said, “Romeo and Juliet.”
I read to him the whole story, he listened attentively the whole, chiding in every once in a while.
“And that is the end of the story of Romeo and Juliet.” I said as I closed the book.
“Wait a minute.” Fred said, “So, that’s it. They died?”
I shrugged, “Well yeah, that’s basically how the story goes.”
A small frown appeared on his face, “But aren’t stories supposed to have a happy ending?”
I smiled, “Yeah, unless you’re reading Shakespeare. He rarely gives his stories a happy ending.”
“Can you read me another one?” He asked, giving me puppy dog eyes.
I giggled, placing a brief kiss on his lips before running up to my dorm to get another book.

Dating a superhero meant there was a lot of restrictions; cuddles and movie dates with them are fleeting moments since you never know when they would get a call about a grape-headed alien terrorizing the planet and you couldn’t flaunt them as much as you wanted to because your safety would be greatly affected if their arch nemesis finds out about your existence.
But regardless of it all, you were thankful because Sam never made you feel less of what you really are to him. A lot of your friends who know about your relationship with The Falcon were envious about how mature the both of you are, managing to balance both of your work lives and your personal ones at home; none of them really knowing how immature the both of you are behind closed doors.
Making this another reason why you loved the privacy being hidden from the public eye; you felt like you were in your own coming-of-age, rom-com movie with Sam with all the hidden rendezvous at The Washington Mall at midnight and drive around the empty streets of the city just until the crack of dawn or just stay at home and cook countless of meals, teaching each other recipes from both sides of your families
It was the relationship anyone could have ever dreamed of.
---
“You’re not making this any easier for me, baby girl.” Sam said, sighing inwardly as he stuffed his duffel. He was going over to New York for a few days, probably on another mission with the Avengers (or training with them) and you weren’t having any of it; wanting nothing more than to have him home and with you for a few more days一 possibly forever if that was even possible.
You groaned softly at his response, sitting on the bed with your knees hugged to your chest as you watch him ready his things for yet another mission. “Then don’t go” You simply told him, face holding the same sad expression as your lower lip was jutted out in a small pout as you looked away, not waiting to tear up once again; him leaving for missions was always the hardest.
A chuckle left his lips, setting the suitcase down on the carpeted floor of your shared room before claiming his spot next to you; the dip of the bed from his weight caused you to look at him. “You know I wouldn’t dare to leave if I had the chance to, right?” He asked, his scooting closer to you and pressed a kiss to your shoulder. “But I always come back, right? Because you’re my home.”
You relaxed under his touch, stretching your legs unto the bed and wrapped your arms around his muscular frame, hugging him close to you in fear that he might disappear all of a sudden. “I know, but do you really have to go?” You murmur, hiding your face against his neck, the way your breath falls on his skin causes goosebumps to rise on his own.
“I have to, they need me, sweets.” He explains, wrapping his arms around your own frame and squeezes gently, enough to convey that he’ll be fine; that he’ll be safe and unharmed after all of the fighting he has due.
“I’ll be back in no time.” His reassurance made you sigh inwardly, knowing that you can’t convince him otherwise. Sam was always just like that, once something is set on his mind on something, he won’t stop until he gets it done. He rarely second guesses what he wants and he does, you’re the person he talks to.
You didn’t speak anymore, opting to let the warmth from his body consume you and lull you into sleep, his hand tracing small shapes into your back as he pressed a kiss to your forehead. “Go to sleep, baby. I love you.”
---
The sunlight that peeked in through the sheer fabric of the curtains was enough to wake you up, reaching over to Sam’s side, expecting to feel him there but instead you were greeted with the sound of paper crumpling from the side of your hand. Stirring awake, you sat up and grabbed the note that was folded neatly.
“I’ll be back soon, baby girl. Don’t miss me too much, I love you.” You read outloud, adoring how neat his handwriting was, hugging the paper to your chest before whispering, “I love you too” before placing the note by your bedside table, rolling out of bed to get on with your day when your phone dinged. Looking at the lit up screen, you smiled at the message from Sam.
[ from: birdman lover ]
- It hasn’t even been a day and I already miss you.
- This’ll be a long week.
- Have a great day though.
- I love you.
---
- Steve’s still clueless on how phones work but he’s getting there. He “greets you a hello”.
The rest of the week was your normal routine, aside from the occasional texts and calls you would get from Sam whenever he had the chance to check his phone; telling you how much he missed you and sharing stories of what’s going on inside the compound. It was like he never left, the only difference being he wasn’t physically there to give you the affection.
Saturday morning soon rolled around and you were bouncing off the walls excited that you had to wait just one more day before Sam could come back home; come back to you. You practically bounced off the walls as you did all your errands一 mainly you getting your car cleaned and your weekly Target run一 and your day was all rainbows and sunshines.
Until it wasn’t. You were scrolling through your Instagram when you saw a picture that made your blood boil immensely. It was a photo of an actress (who was extremely good looking) in the arms of The Falcon. You had to take a few moments in to fully register the fact that the woman had managed to snag a photo with him, “He’s even hotter in person.” You read the caption out loud, eyes rolling in irritation, even replying to some comments from her fanbase, making it seem like they were dating.
You rarely get jealous about anything with Sam, being so secure with your relationship with him but seeing someone who has a platform freely post him made you writhe in your seat about how you should be the one flexing him like that, not her or anyone else.
You opted to call your lover to tell him how you feel but there was this side of you that didn’t want to go through a whole discourse with him through the phone so you went with the better option, cleaning the fuck out of your apartment until your agression washes away.
Plugging your phone to the sound system, you started off with Rihanna’s Only Girl in the World before grabbing the broom from the small closet in your apartment's kitchen, starting to sweep the floor. “You’re a bad bitch, Y/N. Now go clean,” You hyped yourself up in the mirror before strutting back to the living room to sweep your emotions away.
Unbeknownst to you however was the fact that Sam was well on his way home. He got to go back home earlier than expected and he didn’t tell you, wanting to give you a surprise. Jogging up the stairs of your apartment complex, he was practically rushing to make it your door so he can finally kiss you.
Finally finding the keys to your shared apartment, he opened the door and slowly creeped in, expecting to see you seated on the couch but what he saw was something else. He was stunned beyond words to see you clad nothing but his shirt and a messy bun while holding a broom, singing your heart out.
“Want you to make me feel like I’m the only girl in the world” you sang out loud, holding onto the broom as if it was a mic while you danced, awkwardly body rolling to the beat. “Like I’m the only one that you’ll ever love, like I’m the only one who knows your heart” You continued, starting to “sweep the floor again while grooving to the beat of the song, not noticing Sam who was silently watching you.
“Like I’m the only one who’s in command” Your voice blending into the music as you rocked around the room, singing your heart out to the chorus. “Cause I’m the only one who understands how to make you feel like a ma一 Sam!”
You dropped the broom, jumping up in the air as you turned around to see your boyfriend leaning by the wall, watching you with an amused expression while holding his arms out to you. “Are you just gonna stand there or come here and give me a hug?” He questioned, raising up an eyebrow at you.
Wasting no time, you paused the song before making your way over to him and jumped into his arms, wrapping your legs around his waist as you hugged him. “How long have you been here? Why are you here already? Shouldn’t you be coming home tomorrow?” Your bombardment with questions made him chuckle, his arms going under your thighs to support your weight, walking towards the couch and settling the both of you on there.
“I wanted to surprise you, baby. We finished a little bit earlier than expected so the moment we got back to the compound I was well on my way home.” He answered, one of his hands retreating from your backside to sneak up and cup your jaw, thumb tracing it gently. His eyes were locked with yours, filled with adoration and love as he continued, “turns out you have a surprise of your own for me. What’s got you cleaning so aggressively?”
You laughed, the anger you had just moments ago melting away as you lean into his touch, “It’s nothing, Sammy. Just me being a little jealous, is all.” You explained, finding it easy to admit your feelings. Your relationship with him was just like that; centered on honesty, understanding, and love. The reason why you’re so assured with him.
“Jealous? What’s got my baby jealous?” His brows were furrowed at the answer, mind trying to remember his actions prior to this conversation to see if he had done anything wrong but came up with nothing. “Did I do something?” He questioned, sitting up a bit as the conversation got more serious.
“I just saw this picture of this you and this actress posted on her instagram and一” you paused, finding it silly now that you’ve even been this jealous about this in the first place. “一I just got jealous that she could post you on their social media so freely. Kind of made me realize that I’m still not existent in the eyes of others; I should be the one posting you like that. Kind of made me realize that I’m not the only girl in the world that wants you.” you finished, not wanting to look into his eyes anymore at the sudden sadness from being hidden.
Normally, you wouldn’t even bat an eye on it but seeing how broken you were, Sam was shattered that you had to go through that thought. “There’s no need to feel ashamed that you got jealous, Y/N.” He said, the hand that was on your jaw now going under your chin to make you look at him again. “I know I insisted that I hide you from the public eye so you can be safe from harm and I’m sorry that because of it makes you feel like this.”
He sighed softly, leaning in to press a chaste kiss against your lips. “But if you’re ready to be introduced to everyone, even to the team, then I’ll be more than glad to show you to the world.” Sam said, his lips just millimeters away from yours, “The only girl I’ll ever love.” He finished, locking his lips with yours.
You swore on the fact that Sam’s lips were made for your own, the pace slow and sensual, enough to relay that he was sticking to his words and that you didn’t need to worry about anything. His plush tiers felt soft against yours, his teeth sinking into your bottom one, nibbling against it softly before swiping his tongue against it.
“Does my angel want me to show her how much she really means to me?” He whispers, pressing one more kiss to your lips before pulling back, locking his gaze with yours, pupils blown with love and adoration clouded with a hint of lust over the thought of seeing you squirm under him.
Given the fact that you were sitting on his lap, you could feel how hard he was under you. “You feel that, darling? You do that to me.” He groans as you shift, the friction causing his dick to twitch inside his tight jeans. “Be a good girl and use your words, baby.”
“Want you, Sam.” You say, mind too aroused and clouded with perverse thoughts due to the lack of touch you had from him this week to make a concise sentence. “Want you to make me feel good, please.” You beg, brows furrowing lightly in need as you watch him study your expression, a small smile forming on his lips as he easily hoists you up, arms gripping your thighs.
“How can I resist such a good girl begging for me to make her feel good?” He questions, gracing your lips with another chaste kiss as he carries you into your shared bedroom, placing you on the bed as he hovers above you. “I’ll make you feel so good tonight, sweets.”
His lips are then on yours again, his lower half grinding on yours a few times to rile you up, making you elicit a few moans that caused him to go overdrive. He grunts, taking in the scandalous sounds you make before sitting back up, taking the shirt off from your body, throwing his head back at the sight of you clad in only your underwear. “You do know how to make me go wild, baby doll.”
You smiled at him, happy that you were able to make him go haywire at just the sight of you not even fully naked. “My clothes never seem to stay on with you around anyways.” You answer, making him chuckle lightly as he started to attack your neck with kisses, nipping at the skin quite harshly making you hiss in pleasurable pain.
“You look better naked” was all he said before taking in one of your breasts, tongue swirling around the hard nub as his hand teased the other, fingers pinching on it lightly making you take a sharp gasp. He did this for a few moments before kissing his way from the valley of your breasts all the way down to the top of your panties.
Sam looked up at you with a devilish grin upon the realization of what lingerie you were wearing, “My angel looks so good.” he praises, taking a moment to admire your already fucked out appearance with lips swollen and hickey littered skin. He was quick to take off your underwear, eyes filled with hunger at the sight of your soaking cunt.
This feeded his ego to no ends, seeing you so needy for him. “I haven’t even touched you yet you’re already so wet for me, baby girl.” he commented, hands caressing your inner thighs teasingly as he took a moment to drink in the sight of you.
The way his rough and slightly calloused hands were in juxtaposition to the smoothness of your skin granted goosebumps to run along your skin, the cold air of the room adding on to your arousal. “Sam, please. Need you.” You begged once more, attempting to close your legs for some needed friction but his sudden grip on it making you think otherwise.
“Almost there, baby. Patience.” He said, bringing two digits to very lightly graze upon your slit before bringing it up to your lips, his thumb tapping your bottom lip, “Open up, sweets. Wanna see you taste yourself first.” He ordered, wanting to see you suck on his fingers.
Wanting nothing more than his touch, you easily obliged and took his fingers in without him prying them open. Your eyes were locked with his as you sucked on it, setting a blaze inside his eyes that you haven’t seen before, that lone making your stomach twist in knots.
As soon as Sam was satisfied at how wet you made his fingers, he finally gave your throbbing pussy the attention it yearned for. Inserting the two digits inside of you with ease as he slowly started to pump it in and out of your heat while his thumb rubbed circles on your sensitive bundle of nerves.
You were a moaning mess under his touch, back arching at the slightest touch he would do to your clit. You were overwhelmed with the pleasure he was providing you. “F-fuck!” You breathlessly moan, hips bucking up as you wanted more of his touch.
Sam then leaned, tongue lapping up your sweet juices as he sucked on your aching clit, the gentle suckling was sinful to your ears. He moaned at the taste of you, its vibrations against you making you whine at the contact. He curled his fingers inside you, easily finding your sweet spot upon seeing how you writhed under his touch.
With Sam’s tongue abusing your clit to no end and his digits mercilessly pumping in and out of you, the tension was all too much to handle that the knot that was in your stomach finally broke. “Go on, baby. Come for me, why don’t you.” He said, feeling how your walls were clamping up around him. The euphoria that followed made your legs tremble as you reached your high, shamelessly moaning Sam’s name mixed with profanities as he continued to finger you through your orgasm.
“Such a good girl for me” Was his words, rising up from his position. You watched as he licked up every last drop of your cum off his fingers, rolling off the bed to rid himself off from his own clothes, your mouth practically watering at the sight of his rock hard length that sprung out from the tight confinements of his boxers.
You were gonna reach out to feel him when he stopped you, “No, baby. Tonight, it’s all about you, remember?” he said, stroking his length a few times, thumb circling around his tip that was glistening with pre-cum as he got back on the bed, positioning himself on top of you. “You ready?”
“Y-yes, Sam.” and upon hearing your answer, he eased into you. Both moaning at the longing of feeling each other intimately. No matter how many times the two of you would fuck, you still couldn’t get used to his size. He filled you up quite easily, his hips meeting yours as he filled you in deep.
Ever the gentleman, he waited for you to give the signal that you were ready and upon your nod, he started to move slowly, wanting to ease you into the pace.. Sam’s groans were music to your ear, “So fucking tight, angel.” He said, one of his hands reaching up to wrap around your neck, pressing against its sides lightly.
“F-faster, Sam. Please” You said and he complied, like your words were pressed a switch in him, he started to relentlessly slam into you, fucking you into the bed and into oblivion. His other hand was on the headboard, palm spread out to gain some support, the bed shaking violently as he continued.
“Let me hear those moans, angel. Let everyone know who you belong to.” Sam said, the hold around your neck tightening slightly, wanting to see you slowly gasp out for air as you let out those heavenly yet sinful sounds, “Who do you belong to, baby?”
“Y-You, Sam!” You answer, feeling your body writhe as another orgasm was already brewing at the pit of your stomach. “F-fuck, I-i’m yours!” You continued, eyes practically rolling to the back at the immense amount of pleasure you got from him drilling you into the mattress.
With those words that left your lips, he started to pound to you even rougher, not caring if the neighbouring apartments heard your cries of pleasure or the squeaking of the bed. You were his and it was his very intention to let everyone know that. “That’s right, doll. You belong to me.” he said, his eyes on your fucked out face. “Mine to fuck and mine to love.”
Feeling the knot in your stomach about to burst, your hands were gripping the bed sheets as you cried out in pleasure, “I’m gonna cum!” body unable to handle the amount of pleasure being handed to you as Sam continued to fuck you out, riding out your high until his own climax hit with one final slam, moaning as he filled you up with his own cum.
Pulling out slowly, Sam took the time to admire his own cum mixed with your drip down from your cunt, a feeling of satisfaction spread through his chest at the sight of you. He leaned in to kiss you once again, this time it was soft and just filled with love, hand running along your sides gently, “Such a good girl for me.” he whispered, pressing one last kiss before he stood up and walked over to the bathroom.
You attempted to follow him, but ultimately failed as your legs were shaking too much from your recent orgasm. You could hear Sam chuckle as he re-emerged from the other room, a wet washcloth in his hand as he approached you. “Let me take care of it, alright princess?” He said softly.
He then started to clean you up, making sure to whisper soft praises about how you took him so well and of how you were so good for him. The moment he was done, he mindlessly threw the cloth into the hamper, collapsing on the bed and took you in his arms, eager to cuddle you. Sam pressed a soft kiss to your forehead, “I love you, Y/N. You’re the only girl I’ll ever love.”
You hummed softly, making yourself comfortable in his arms, reaching up to steal a kiss from him, “I love you too, Sammy. I’ll always love you.”

Tumblr media
30th of July, 2001
“Is it true you’ve forgotten a portion of your life?” asked Mareya, the newbie [Y/N] just hired two weeks ago. She needed a hand in her antique shop, and the younger girl pounded on the store’s door and asked if she was still looking for an assistant.
“I’m starting to think you only wanted to work here to write an article about me,” teased [Y/N]. “I know you want to be a news writer but do yourself a favor and don’t put me in the headline.” The story spread like a forest fire when she found herself in this very shop, confused. Of course, she had never disclosed information but it’s no surprise that it had already spread through Little Whinging.
“Sorry, please don’t fire me.” Mareya was only around sixteen, about the age [Y/N] was when the memory story about her broke out. When a kid walked in the store, Mareya excused herself to tend to the new customer’s needs. [Y/N] was once again left to her own devices. She looked out of the store’s window, through the crooked figure of a wooden mannequin, waiting for something even she did not know. There was little known about her despite being the talk of the town for weeks on end.
“Okay, I’m back.” The young customer had left, and Mareya had dust sticking on her head, her nose red. “Kid was looking for one particular item that was here last month. Had to dig.”
“Cool,” replied [Y/N], her eyes still trained to the same spot outside the shop. “Cool.”
“No, not cool. It’s dusty there. Let’s start cleaning at the back shelves if we don’t want to get it crowded with spiders and termites and. . .dust.” Right, right. Clean up. [Y/N] nodded once more, not wanting to tear her gaze away from outside when Mareya snapped her fingers right in front of her face. “I asked if I could take a day off tomorrow. So, can I?”
It took a while for [Y/N] to fully awaken herself, but she eventually did. “Oh, yeah. Sure.” She shifted in her stool, willing once more for something to move outside to no avail. “I mean yeah, you can.”
“Are you alright?” Mareya pressed the back of her palm against [Y/N]’s cheek, checking for her body temperature. But then she seemed to gather more interest when she realized this might have something to do with her previous question. “Are you remembering something? Are you?”
“What? No! Get back to work, you git. And start calling me ‘ma’am,’ I’m older than you.” [Y/N] playfully punched the younger girl on the shoulder. Truth be told, she liked her company. It was getting lonely being all alone in the same place you’ve always been every single day, waiting for something. It was like having a little sister pestering you, and she didn’t mind the pestering part at all.
“So you agree twenty-one is old?”
“Oh, come on! If you don’t get back to work right now I am going to reconsider letting you take the day off tomorrow.”
“Fine, fine. My bad, ma’am.”
The two of them laughed, but [Y/N]’s thoughts were still so far away as her eyes kept going back to the same spot, waiting. . .
By eight p.m., [Y/N] was left alone in her own shop. Mareya left three hours ago, but she stayed to reorganize the occupants of the shelves and also in hopes of seeing something she refused to let anyone know. As she wiped a musical jewelry box on the counter, she looked outside once more. Nothing.
Disappointed, she stood up from her wooden stool to pull out a record and approached the dansette standing against the window. She placed the record on the turntable and adjusted the speed and put the arm. She hummed as So This Is Love played, watching as rain started to stain the side walk. Puddles reflecting the light from the lamp post nearest to it remained chaotic as little droplets joined its crew.
And, in her concerning state, [Y/N] stared at the same spot. She must have seen something — or nothing at all — for she started to weep for something she longed to keep unbeknownst to her it stood just outside the window, draped in a cloak meant to hide anything underneath it. He had come by to check on her, like he always did even five years after.
Rain soaked the top of his cloak as he just stood there in front of the store’s window, watching her as her face reddened and tears stained her face like the rain stained the now frosted window. He wanted to wipe the window and keep guarding her, but he knew there was nothing he can do.
Even in the pitter patter of the rain, he could hear the muffled tune of a familiar song from inside the shop. She always played it around this hour, sometimes staring into nothing and sometimes crying. This time, tears dripped down her cheeks. And he hated he couldn’t do anything about it.
Harry, whose only intention was to erase every memory she had of him and every single painful memory she owned did not come at a low price. He didn’t know what it was like, but he did know he messed up her mind. “I’m sorry,” he had told her the night he told her goodbye in this very spot. And, with the wish of removing himself from her mind and every pain she carried with her, he raised his wand and said an incantation he despised — “Obliviate.”
He just wanted to keep her safe. He only wanted to give her the peace she deserved but he had made matters worse.
And with that, he had disappeared into the night, hearing her drop to the same sidewalk. He didn’t look back even once and kept going. Now, as he remained stiff in front of the store five years later, he made his peace with this punishment he built for himself.
The rain had stopped now, and to his surprise [Y/N] was outside, and he could clearly see her face in the pale glow of the nearby lamp post. The tears were gone. At first, he thought she was looking at him, horror painting his face. She didn’t have a magical eye just like Moody’s, so how could she see him right now?
But no, she did not see him at all. She was looking ahead the endless road, eyes darting in every direction. “There’s nobody there,” she said to herself, but loud enough for Harry to hear. Her gaze fell to where his feet were planted and repeated, “there’s nobody there.” And went back into the store, the door creaking as she did so.

1st of January, 1998 01:03
When the clock strikes at midnight on a new year, that entire minute is dedicated to jolly cheers, fireworks exploding and decorating the once empty sky. It’s always been like that. And by that minute passes, everyone becomes silent again, minding their own businesses. [Y/N] sat peacefully in a train on its way to King’s cross. As she listened to the hum of the vehicle, she planned out how she would go home: take a cab, stop by her father’s antique shop and add her new finds (a limited edition Peter Rabbit figurine and a miniature mannequin), and finally come home.
The other passengers didn’t seem to be having a good time, so she didn’t bother to give them at least a timid smile. Other than that, the ride itself was painfully boring, what with the only sound you can hear the rumble of the tracks as it finally skidded to a stop. A monotonous voice spoke reverberated through the speakers, and the doors whistled open.
An hour has passed since midnight, so it was no surprise it was quieter than usual when she stepped out of the train. [Y/N] cradled the paper bag in the other crook of her arm to take off her coat. It was peculiarly burning hot at this time of the night and she didn’t want to sweat all the way. She’d probably get back to Surrey by around two in the morning. She folded the quote with one hand and hung it over her right arm, switching the paper bag to the same arm to keep it safe and kept walking.
There were no cabs outside, so she decided it was best to wait by the other side of the highway. She deeply considered taking a half hour walk to get to Westfield Stratford, but pushed this aside when she remembered it opens around ten in the morning. [Y/N] sighed. She was tired, having come all the way from a long trip. It’s alright, she thought. I’ll get my own car once I sell enough from my store.
As [Y/N] crossed the pedestrian lane, her shoulder bumped against that of a stranger who was coming from the other side. She pat the person’s shoulder in apology, who was now looking right back at her. He was probably around her age, only that she thought of this stranger more extraordinary than she was what with his green eyes and messy hair. Green eyes and messy hair.
The stranger now looked like as if he had seen a ghost. “Gee, it’s not like I meant to hit you. No need to cry.” She scoffed and went on her way, leaving the man dumbfounded.
He stood there for three more seconds, left aghast before he looked back to find the very person he wanted to see walking away. He was aware he had taken her memories away, yet seeing it up close reminded him how real this was. Because when you don’t see the consequences you must face, it becomes easy to pretend nothing ever happened in the first place.
Crowds of people seemed to be coming around everywhere now, blocking her from view until he could no longer see her anymore. He walked the other way, not wanting to be found in the middle of the street once the red light turned up.
The man she ran into that late night was none other than the boy who made her feel the closest thing to love she could have ever felt — Harry James Potter. And once more, they parted ways. But at that very moment, he swore to himself he’d look after her, for that was the least he could do.
You could leave, she’s doing better, a voice in his head had told him. But no, he wouldn’t. And as he walked back to the station from which she came from, he was already coming up with excuses for himself to cover up the fact that he will always refuse to admit he had only wanted to see her even if it was from a distance.
Even if she couldn’t see him at all.

31st of July, 2001
[Y/N] forgot she had let Mareya take the day off. She had baked a tiny cake earlier that day before going to work and placed it in a flat, round tin container. The eco tote bag sat abandoned on top of a dusty antique drawer. This time, she did not look outside. Instead, she left the door open and went to the back of the store, making sure there weren’t termites living in the plywoods that separated different kinds of products from one another.
She could almost hear Mareya’s rebuke: “Are you mad? There are thieves in this place! And you were at the back? You wouldn’t even know if anyone came in and took something. These are all expensive, you should know that.”
Nonetheless, she loved that kid. It’s like having a sister, a daughter, and a mother all at once. Even though Meraya was younger for half a decade, [Y/N] was the one being looked after. When she heard the telltale sound of the rain, she rushed to the door and slammed it shut. She didn’t even question the sudden change of weather anymore. It was always either too sunny or too rainy. Sometimes in between, like a little bit of sunshine but also a little bit of rain.
Customers came and went, taking something from her shop along with them. And just like yesterday, time passed by quickly. It was still raining a bit outside, so she stood up from the stool and grabbed the violet umbrella a customer left years ago. She turned off every light in the shop, and just when she was about to put out the one at the counter, she noticed the vase of Asters had withered — its petals dark and the center now more green than its leaves. Scowling [Y/N] unhesitatingly pulled out the flowers from the vase, crumpled it with her fingers and shoved it into the tiny trash can behind the counter.
She swung the door open again, but instead of stepping out, she went back to the back to check if the lights were all out. After doing a thorough inspection, she decided it was good enough and picked up the unopened tin container in an eco tote bag. Thankfully, the ants hadn’t gotten to it yet. With a relieved sigh, she slipped out of the door and locked it with her own key as the tote bag hung limp on her arm, the stick of the umbrella resting on her collarbone.
[Y/N] let out a long exhale as she stared straight ahead, aware that the spot she’d been staring at the entire time yesterday was now within reach of her umbrella. The rain was singing again. Pitter patter, it said tauntingly as ever.
With a start, she calmly closed the umbrella only halfway. It was like a stick now, but it was bound to open if she let go. [Y/N] could feel the rain wetting her hair.
“He’s taller than me this much” — she scaled her umbrella up and down the air — “and the cloth must be down to his legs. If I’m not mistaken. . .”
She dug the umbrella’s point downward then upward to her right and let go, the umbrella flapping open and taking a soft fabric along with it. It was a Cloak, and it had fallen on the sidewalk, where a puddle mildly engulfed it. As for the umbrella, it flopped and wobbled away, the hook pointing upwards to the sky.
And, as she had theorized, a familiar face stood to her right, face downcast in astonishment.
A tall figure clad in a simple get-up: a wrinkled shirt and worn out jeans.
[Y/N] faced the man to her right, now staring into his face. He was frozen, but she wasn’t. “Hello, Harry,” she breathed. “A phone call would’ve been nice.” She was holding the bag with the tin container in her left hand, keeping it tightly shut as to not let the rain get to the cake.
Harry stiffened at how she said his name. It’s been a long time since she called out to him. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. But her memories. . . ? Had she known I was with her all this time?
“I left the door open today so you could come in. Didn’t really want you to catch a cold.” He didn’t respond. “Aren’t you gonna say something?”
“I— Er— Well, how. . . How are you?”
“You would know, wouldn’t you?” Although her tone did not at all hint any harshness in it, Harry felt himself recoil. Why was he so scared? “How have you been?”
Unsure himself, Harry cleared his throat in an effort to steady himself and not cry at the sight of the woman he had longed to bring into his arms for such a long time. “Er — Good?”
She chuckled, beaming up at him as if this was simply a daily conversation you had with a friend. But were they even friends? He felt a pang of guilt gnaw at his stomach. Would you consider someone a friend if they erased memories you had of them, kept away from you, and followed you around like a creep?
“It’s, uh, been. . . Five years, yeah?” Harry whispered, impressed at himself for even being able to speak.
“Three.” She studied him intently, not wanting to look away in fear that he might vanish and dissolve. “We met near King’s Cross, if I’m not mistaken. You even almost cried because I bumped your shoulder.” [Y/N] giggled.
It was still raining, small droplets falling from the heavens yet doing a good job wetting the entire landscape thoroughly. His Invisibility Cloak lied sadly on a puddle, but he’d have to just worry about that later. “You. . . know who I am? How could you — ? Didn’t I — ?”
“See, you said to remember only my happy moments, but you said to forget you. That’s a contradiction.” She held out the tote bag containing the cake. “Happy Birthday, Harry. I made it for you.”
He ignored the cake. Instead, he grabbed her outstretched arm and pulled her into his chest, his arms wrapped around her so tight she could explode. His hand cradled the back of her head, and he could smell her hair perfectly now.
“My hair’s wet enough from the rain, Harry. Don’t stain it more with your tears.” But she was crying as well, but she just let him drown her in the embrace and in that very moment she found herself begging whoever there was to beg to not let this be a mere dream.
“Why didn’t you say anything? Why didn’t you tell me you knew?” His voice cracked, and he wasn’t sure if he wanted to hear the answer. He felt like he knew, but at the same time felt like he didn’t. He simply wanted to hear it from her.
“It’s a punishment for trying to remove you from my memories and leaving me alone for two years,” said [Y/N]. As sad as it seemed, her voice was pleasant and careful as ever. “But you made up for it, so I forgive you. Don’t erase my memory this time, yes?” She pat his back, which she noticed was stained with both sweat and rain.
“I’m so sorry, [Y/N]. I won’t. I’ll make it up to you more. I’m so—”
“Let’s not talk about it now,” she said, pulling away and looking up at him. He had aged as well, with the hint of a stubble marking his jaw and circles under his eyes. “We can be happy in this moment. Let’s choose that instead, okay?”
In all honesty, she was angry and miserable too. But finally seeing him face to face had outshined whatever negative feelings were built up in her chest.
She had her suspicions that he was with her sometimes for the past few years, but yesterday had confirmed it when she stepped out of the shop and saw a spot in a puddle not getting wet by the rain. It was because his feet were planted in that very spot. Aside from that, he had also brought wet footprints inside the store, and that was when she was sure that he was there with her.
“I don’t want to be mad at you now,” started [Y/N]. “I spent the last five years doing just that. Let’s not waste the present in resentment for each other. Sound good?”
“Good. Yes, good.”
“Alright. Now, do you want to pick up your cloak and the umbrella and go back inside and eat this cake if it’s not yet soaked?”
Harry wanted to hug her again, but he was assured he’d have plenty of time to do that with her now that everything was alright. And with a toothy smile, he nodded eagerly.
There’ll be more tears to shed, more words you didn’t mean to say, more of everything you could imagine that could bring pain. . .but right now, they would not let a little bit of rain wash away their chance at a happy ending.

Angel || Draco Malfoy
Requested: No. Pairing: post-war Draco Malfoy x fem!reader Warnings: Lots of angst in the beginning, mentions of self-harm/self-destructive behavior, mentions of blood, quite a few mentions of the devil, ptsd, just a lot of dark themes ig (let me know if i need to add another warning) Summary: You’ve always been an angel in Draco’s eyes and now, years after the war, he’s reminded why once again.
WORDS: 3440
I’ve been wanting to write about the ‘devil on the shoulder’ trope for a while and I felt like @anchoeritic‘s 3K WRITING CHALLENGE was the perfect opportunity though i think i lost the plot a bit at some point and this probably isn’t what you had in mind.
i had to do so much research for this, probably the most research i’ve ever done for a fic. It’s a lot heavier than I’d intended for it to be (i almost cried at certain points) but I still really love it.
anyway this fic is inspired by ‘Angel’ by FINNEAS (which is a great song that I recommend listening to) and i hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
~~~
Anger.
So much anger that he doesn’t know what to do with it. Red, hot, fury just begging to be unleashed.
He takes a deep breath and shuts his eyes. When he opens them again his fist collides with the wall. “Fuck!”
The miniature Mephistopheles that’s made home on his shoulder tells him to keep going, that this is the only rational response. Draco heeds the advice until his knuckles are bleeding and there’s a dent in the wall.
He lets out a frustrated sigh as he thinks about you returning in a few hours, then he punches the spot one last time out of frustration. Draco’s own love for destruction lies parallel to the myths surrounding Beelzebub, his own virtues bringing him to peril instead of an unseen force of evil. But it’s much easier to believe that the voice always telling him to do wrong, is not his own.
Maybe this is who he is, a fucked up kid with anger issues. Maybe this is all he’ll ever be, knuckles spotted in crimson and harmful thoughts being shoved down as to not raise alarm.
He feels violated by the mark on his arm. Sobs stacking up in his lungs at the very thought, but all he can express is anger- all he can understand is the resent that crawls beneath his skin and settles into his bones like calcium.
Was it his choice? No. Did it matter? No. Choice means nothing in a world run by circumstance. Intention holds no value when there’s no action to follow through. In another world, a better world perhaps, he would’ve had the right to choose and he hopes that he would’ve chosen the right side- the good side.
Forgiveness, they say, is often practiced by the strong willed. He’d tried to forgive, he really had, but Iblis had told him that it didn’t matter who he forgave because they’d still done this to him anyway- they’d still sold his soul to the Devil.
“Draco, when will you forgive me?” She pleads and he shrugs with a thin smile.
“I don’t know mother. I don’t know.”
“It’s been years.” He turns a steal glaze toward her.
“And yet I still can’t get the mark off.”
“What am I meant to do?”
“There’s nothing you can do. It’s too late to do the right thing.”
“What would the right thing have been back then? Huh?”
“The right thing to do would’ve been to protect me.”
“I did protect you. I took the Vow for you!” She yells as she stands out of her chair and points an accusatory finger toward him. He’s seen this scene so many times before that it’s permanently imprinted in his mind, but this time he’s not a scared teenager being scolded by his mother.
“I didn’t ask you to do that.” He stands as well, “I just asked you to save me. Why didn’t you save me?”
“What?” She’s taken aback,
“Summer before fifth. You told me that you’d had enough of him, you told me that we were going to leave and run away so that you could save me from him, from all of them.”
“So now you hate me because I couldn’t leave your bigoted father?”
“No, mother. I hate myself because you couldn’t leave my bigoted father.” He tucks his chair back into the table and pulls out his wand, “Thank you for dinner mother, it was lovely.”
Then he’s gone, and he doesn’t come back.
Draco had shut himself out from the world, hoping that his loathing would dissipate with time but it hadn’t. He still wakes up every morning with that tiny voice reminding him that he’s worthless, and he still believes it.
Why had he done it? Why had he allowed them to put the mark on his arm in the first place? Why had he put his own morals, his own principles, on the line to save a family who might not have done the same for him? Why had he allowed himself to succumb to the many ministrations of Diabolous, which dragged him further and further down the dark side?
Weakness. That’s the only answer he can conceive. Or maybe that’s the sound of Lucifer on his shoulder, consistently reminding him that he’s no match for the evil that resides deep within his soul. He can’t fight it, it’s who he is. He’s weak and he’s unholy. Bathed so often in sin that it’s sunk into his DNA. Does that even make sense?
Draco shakes his head and runs his hands down his face in an attempt to ground himself. But it doesn’t work, all he can see is red and all he can hear is his own conscience belittling him for continuously making the wrong choices. Why does he always make the wrong choices?
His throat so dry it feels as though he’s swallowed sand. His palms sweaty like he’s dipped them in oil. He paces around the room in a desperate effort to remember where you’d placed the box last time this happened. He can feel himself disconnecting from the world, feel himself sinking further and further into the dredges of his mind that torment him most.
That part of his brain that holds the memories, the shame, the anguish, is his biggest obstacle in recovery. It’s always on good days, days when… He blinks when he realizes that no fond memories come to mind. Does he even have good days? Or does this always happen, is this what’s become normal for him?
He catches a glimpse of himself in the mirror and steps back in shock, completely forgetting about his mission to find the box. The man in front of him looks clean, taken care of. When had he become this man and stopped being the terrified teenager that never ate and wore bags beneath his eyelids like name tags.
There is muscle on his arms, taut beneath the dress shirt that he must’ve put on that morning before going to classes… or work? When had he earned the right to stop looking the way he felt? Which of his actions had merited his beauty returning, when the dark mark still lays clear beneath the dress shirt that he’s got on? There are hickeys along his chest- one, two, three, littered around his torso like a map to his heart- and he can only assume that they’d been left in the wake of your last meeting, because he can’t seem to piece together the memory of them being made.
You. Where are you? Why can’t he remember where you are or what you look like? Did you finally leave? Did you finally realise that he wasn’t worth any of the pain and anguish that he’d put you through? Had you ultimately decided that Draco and the dark mark could not be separated, both physically and mentally? Maybe he never managed to redeem himself in your eyes, and it hurt so much to lose you that he made himself forget.
Redemption, he’d searched far and wide for it. He’d spent the months after the war trying to find some spiritual cleanse for the ailment in his essence, had dabbled in every muggle religion he came across in hopes of finding something that would provide him freedom from guilt. The Bible, the Qur’an, the Gita, the Torah, the Guru Granth Sahib, the Tripitaka- none of the holy books he’d read had promised him enough solace to feel deserving of love from a higher entity. They had all just reminded him of the purity and innocence that muggles embodied, the same qualities he came so close to erasing.
Redemption wasn’t in the cards for him. If it had been a game of Poker, Draco would’ve been the first fold with the knowledge that he didn’t stand a chance against the better players at the table. Who were the better players? He didn’t really know, he just knew that he wasn’t one of them.
His eyes drift toward his reflection once more and he feels disgust crawl through his anatomy. Nausea, a familiar friend in times like these, making itself comfortable in the barrel of his gut. Why had he even eaten today anyway? Sustenance won’t fill the emptiness that’s making domicile in his chest, it won’t make him less of a habitat to repulsive regret and desolation.
He walks toward the dresser and picks up a pocket knife that’s sitting in-between some make up and a music box. Then like deja vu he can already feel the weapon pinching, digging beneath his skin as if it’s trying to excavate bone. He recalls blood pouring out, drowning his pale skin in spills of vermillion and carmine, and dropping to the floor. The floor, chalky tile with tiny chards of black glass engrained in it, something that he hadn’t come up with himself but liked anyway. Who had come up with that again?
Screams, familiar but unrecognizable, had filled his ears soon after. He remembers his arm being wrapped in a bandage, him being carried off the bathroom floor and taken to the Hogwarts infirmary, no, it was actually St Mungo’s. He remembers being treated and loud cries settling down into comforting whispers beside him. He remembers feather light touches being placed on his face and kisses settling onto the skin of his palm.
He remembers something good, but he doesn’t know what.
He remembers the injury, and knows that it didn’t work.
Draco takes a deep breath and puts the knife back down. Staring at his reflection once more he sees that the man standing before him is not the same child that had stepped into battle way back when. When was that? Months? Years? He can’t tell.
The box. The box will tell him. But he doesn’t know where it is, he doesn’t even know where he is anymore. This room is definitely not his Hogwarts dorm room, it’s not in Hogwarts at all, and it’s not his room in the Manor either. Where is he?
His eyes shoot up when he hears a door shutting, and soon after voices follow suit. The voices are coming toward him, in this strange room that he’s in, and Draco struggles to identify them. His dorm mates potentially? No, this clearly isn’t Hogwarts. Friends? His mother? You?
Then there’s a laugh, from a child, from two children, and suddenly none of it makes sense any more. He knows those voices, he knows those laughs, so well that they might as well be his own, but he can’t seem to attach faces or names to them.
A few of the voices drift off, further down the hall, and one gets louder as the door to the bedroom opens. Draco holds his breath as the person walks in, not knowing what to expect, and feels a confused sense of relief wash over him when he sees you standing there.
You laugh as you enter the room, “If you can get an outstanding in Transfiguration then we’ll get you whatever your heart desires.” You respond to your daughter as you recall how both you and Draco had struggled with the subject during your Hogwarts years.
You furrow your eyebrows at the state of your bedroom- documents scattered across the bed, clothes in tiny piles all over the floor, and a tiny dent in the wall beside the bathroom door. A sigh escapes your lips as you process the mess and prepare yourself for what’s about to come. You turn and your eyes land on your husband, and your heart breaks at the sight of him. He’d promised this morning that he’d be fine, it was the only reason that you’d left him alone, but clearly he wasn’t.
“Love? Are you okay?” You ask softly as you take the shoes off of your feet and close your bedroom door behind you. He tilts his head to the side momentarily in confusion, but then realisation flashes across his eyes and he takes quick strides toward you.
“Oof.” You breathe out when he pulls you into his chest and rests his forehead on your shoulder.
“Y/N.” He muffles into your shoulder and you feel your heart swell with love for him- this man who recognizes you instantly, even when the entire world is nothing more than a distant memory.
“Miss me?” You ask with a small laugh as you bring your hands up to wrap around him tightly. He mumbles an agreement and you smile, “I missed you too.”
“Bad day.” He whispers and you nod, rubbing his back in an effort to soothe him.
“I know baby, wanna talk about it?”
“No. Can’t remember.”
“Okay, that’s fine.” You pull him away from you and kiss his forehead with a warm smile, “We can just lie down for a while.”
He obliges as you pull him toward the bed and shuffle the papers off of it, climbing on after you and setting his head in your chest. You run your fingers through his hair and hum, trying to your best to make him feel calm and prevent another breakdown.
But your efforts are futile, within the hours that Draco had been alone he’d thought every terrible thought that he possibly could, Al-Shaitan had already tormented your husband through a series of painful misconceptions. Draco had never really subscribed to religion or faith but after the war he’d identified quite quickly with the concept of the Devil- confessing that he believed he had an evil conspirator sitting on his shoulder- and felt that his own soul deserved to be damned. You’d tried to rid him of that notion, many times, but it never worked, he was in too deep.
You tense up when you feel a cry escape his lips and his fingers tighten into the space of your torso. “I’m sorry.”
He feels terrible, terrible for ruining all of your hard work. All the effort you’d put into rebuilding him now disintegrating in the blink of an eye. But you’re here now, you’re going to fix him again, he knows it.
You try to level your breathing so that you don’t cry too, so that you don’t fall into this pit of despair with him, because Merlin knows that any pain Draco feels takes as rough a toll on you. You pull him off of you and sit up, bringing him to sit as well, so that you can look him in the eyes.
“Sorry for what Bub?”
“For being broken. I-“ He feels another sob rock through him and you pull him into your chest. “Please fix me Y/N.” He pleads, a whimper following suit.
His fingers are digging into you again, he’s clinging so tightly to you like you’ll disappear if he doesn’t stay close enough, and it hurts you to know that even after all these years he’s scared that you’ll leave.
“You’re not broken Draco, there’s nothing to fix.”
“But I’m- I’m-“  Cries start to escape rapidly and interrupt him. He can’t see clearly anymore as tears form in his waterline and obstruct his view of you. It hurts, everything just hurts.
“You’re not broken, my love.” You whisper as you cup his face, “You’re not evil, you’re not bad. You’re good. You’re my husband, I love you. Did you open the box?”
He shakes his head, “Couldn’t find it.”
“Okay, let me get i-“ You’re cut off by your bedroom door opening and your children marching in.
“Dad, you’ll never guess what happened at school today- Oh, is this a bad time?” Ariel, your daughter, stops in her tracks as she raises her eyebrows at you.
You shake your head and gesture for them to come in. “I think it just got a little much for him this year. Please get me the box, love.”
Ariel goes to the headboard and pulls out the aforementioned box from the first drawer, before her and Cael, your son, get comfortable on the bed beside you and Draco. But Draco doesn’t need it anymore, he can already sense himself coming back down to earth. He knows where he is- with you, in your house, with your children, in your bed. He’s home, he’s safe.
He takes the box anyway and begins to unload its contents in silence, the three of you observing him with admiration. It’s a small circular box that your children made a few years back after witnessing one of his episodes for the first time, containing momentos from the last 18 years of you and Draco’s lives together. Pictures, notes, a few school projects.
“Tell him about what happened at school today, it’ll probably make him laugh.” Cael encourages his older sister Ariel, and she does as told.
Draco pays a significant amount of attention to the story, piecing together facts that he’s slowly starting to understand and recognize as a part of his normal life. He intertwines his fingers with Cael’s as Ariel continues telling the story from her spot on your lap.
Love.
So much love that he doesn’t know what to do with it. Bursts of it just choking him out.
Draco remembers everything now. He remembers this house of yours, the one he’d bought straight out of Hogwarts and begged you to live in with him because “It’s nothing without you in it”. These children that you’d had 14 years ago, that’d he’d been so scared to raise because he thought they’d resent him, and that made everything in the world just seem brighter. This life that he modeled with you on the embers of his haunting past, this life that reminds him he’s good.
Before you, he would’ve been terrified to show any one his vulnerable side, especially his children, but you’d taught him that loving someone means loving all the good bits and the bad bits, all the happy moments and the sad moments. Now he knows that when days like this happen, when he gets so lost inside the mental maze of his own construction, the three of you will always be waiting to help him out.
Ariel finishes her story and Draco bellows out a laugh, feeling thankful to have you three around in his moments of weakness.
His three guardian angels- the only people who can always lead him away from the shadow in his mind and toward the luminescence that he carries within him. “All the good within us is split in the middle, half from you and half from mum, just as it should be. I hope you remember that we wouldn’t be who we are without you both.” Cael suddenly speaks up and you smile pridefully at him.
“They wouldn’t.” You add once he’s done and smile, “I couldn’t have done such a bad job without you.”
“Hey!” Ariel accuses and you all laugh.
“She’s right though, I am the one who taught you hexes at age 7.” Draco grins bashfully and you roll your eyes.
“And look at us now, acing Charms!”
“See love,” Draco turns to you, “There is a method to my madness.”
“Mhmm.” You hum with a small smile. “Go do your homework, dinner soon.”
“Yes, I’m making pizza tonight.” Draco adds as he kisses both of your children on their foreheads.
They excitedly hop off the bed and run out of the room. “I can’t belie-“
“Harry called.” Draco interrupts you and your eyes go wide at his statement but you nod for him to continue, “He wanted to know how I was doing, you know with it having been 18 years since the war and all. Offered to come spend the day with me and make sure I’d be alright while you were gone.”
“And you said no?” You raise your eyebrows and he shakes his head.
“No, I told him that I’d come by his office instead. Then when I was getting ready… I just started having flashbacks again, and my mark hurt. I felt horrible all of a sudden, like there was huge weight on my chest and this fog obscuring my vision.”
There are few things that Draco has faith in, but you, you he never runs short on trust for. You’re a constant in his life, a shoulder that he can always rely on when he needs it, and as he sits here and tells you about his day, he feels love for you hit him tenfold.
You, this beautiful, kind, ethereal being that has no place on earth. You, the one who’s managed to convince him that saints are real. You, who has given him your entire life, along with all the love that you have to offer. You, Y/N, the love of his life.
You.
An angel.
Dating a superhero meant there was a lot of restrictions; cuddles and movie dates with them are fleeting moments since you never know when they would get a call about a grape-headed alien terrorizing the planet and you couldn’t flaunt them as much as you wanted to because your safety would be greatly affected if their arch nemesis finds out about your existence.
But regardless of it all, you were thankful because Sam never made you feel less of what you really are to him. A lot of your friends who know about your relationship with The Falcon were envious about how mature the both of you are, managing to balance both of your work lives and your personal ones at home; none of them really knowing how immature the both of you are behind closed doors.
Making this another reason why you loved the privacy being hidden from the public eye; you felt like you were in your own coming-of-age, rom-com movie with Sam with all the hidden rendezvous at The Washington Mall at midnight and drive around the empty streets of the city just until the crack of dawn or just stay at home and cook countless of meals, teaching each other recipes from both sides of your families
It was the relationship anyone could have ever dreamed of.
“You’re not making this any easier for me, baby girl.” Sam said, sighing inwardly as he stuffed his duffel. He was going over to New York for a few days, probably on another mission with the Avengers (or training with them) and you weren’t having any of it; wanting nothing more than to have him home and with you for a few more days一 possibly forever if that was even possible.
You groaned softly at his response, sitting on the bed with your knees hugged to your chest as you watch him ready his things for yet another mission. “Then don’t go” You simply told him, face holding the same sad expression as your lower lip was jutted out in a small pout as you looked away, not waiting to tear up once again; him leaving for missions was always the hardest.
A chuckle left his lips, setting the suitcase down on the carpeted floor of your shared room before claiming his spot next to you; the dip of the bed from his weight caused you to look at him. “You know I wouldn’t dare to leave if I had the chance to, right?” He asked, his scooting closer to you and pressed a kiss to your shoulder. “But I always come back, right? Because you’re my home.”
You relaxed under his touch, stretching your legs unto the bed and wrapped your arms around his muscular frame, hugging him close to you in fear that he might disappear all of a sudden. “I know, but do you really have to go?” You murmur, hiding your face against his neck, the way your breath falls on his skin causes goosebumps to rise on his own.
“I have to, they need me, sweets.” He explains, wrapping his arms around your own frame and squeezes gently, enough to convey that he’ll be fine; that he’ll be safe and unharmed after all of the fighting he has due.
“I’ll be back in no time.” His reassurance made you sigh inwardly, knowing that you can’t convince him otherwise. Sam was always just like that, once something is set on his mind on something, he won’t stop until he gets it done. He rarely second guesses what he wants and he does, you’re the person he talks to.
You didn’t speak anymore, opting to let the warmth from his body consume you and lull you into sleep, his hand tracing small shapes into your back as he pressed a kiss to your forehead. “Go to sleep, baby. I love you.”
The sunlight that peeked in through the sheer fabric of the curtains was enough to wake you up, reaching over to Sam’s side, expecting to feel him there but instead you were greeted with the sound of paper crumpling from the side of your hand. Stirring awake, you sat up and grabbed the note that was folded neatly.
“I’ll be back soon, baby girl. Don’t miss me too much, I love you.” You read outloud, adoring how neat his handwriting was, hugging the paper to your chest before whispering, “I love you too” before placing the note by your bedside table, rolling out of bed to get on with your day when your phone dinged. Looking at the lit up screen, you smiled at the message from Sam.
[ from: birdman lover ]
- It hasn’t even been a day and I already miss you.
- This’ll be a long week.
- Have a great day though.
- I love you.
- Steve’s still clueless on how phones work but he’s getting there. He “greets you a hello”.
The rest of the week was your normal routine, aside from the occasional texts and calls you would get from Sam whenever he had the chance to check his phone; telling you how much he missed you and sharing stories of what’s going on inside the compound. It was like he never left, the only difference being he wasn’t physically there to give you the affection.
Saturday morning soon rolled around and you were bouncing off the walls excited that you had to wait just one more day before Sam could come back home; come back to you. You practically bounced off the walls as you did all your errands一 mainly you getting your car cleaned and your weekly Target run一 and your day was all rainbows and sunshines.
Until it wasn’t. You were scrolling through your Instagram when you saw a picture that made your blood boil immensely. It was a photo of an actress (who was extremely good looking) in the arms of The Falcon. You had to take a few moments in to fully register the fact that the woman had managed to snag a photo with him, “He’s even hotter in person.” You read the caption out loud, eyes rolling in irritation, even replying to some comments from her fanbase, making it seem like they were dating.
You rarely get jealous about anything with Sam, being so secure with your relationship with him but seeing someone who has a platform freely post him made you writhe in your seat about how you should be the one flexing him like that, not her or anyone else.
You opted to call your lover to tell him how you feel but there was this side of you that didn’t want to go through a whole discourse with him through the phone so you went with the better option, cleaning the fuck out of your apartment until your agression washes away.
Plugging your phone to the sound system, you started off with Rihanna’s Only Girl in the World before grabbing the broom from the small closet in your apartment’s kitchen, starting to sweep the floor. “You’re a bad bitch, Y/N. Now go clean,” You hyped yourself up in the mirror before strutting back to the living room to sweep your emotions away.
Unbeknownst to you however was the fact that Sam was well on his way home. He got to go back home earlier than expected and he didn’t tell you, wanting to give you a surprise. Jogging up the stairs of your apartment complex, he was practically rushing to make it your door so he can finally kiss you.
Finally finding the keys to your shared apartment, he opened the door and slowly creeped in, expecting to see you seated on the couch but what he saw was something else. He was stunned beyond words to see you clad nothing but his shirt and a messy bun while holding a broom, singing your heart out.
“Want you to make me feel like I’m the only girl in the world” you sang out loud, holding onto the broom as if it was a mic while you danced, awkwardly body rolling to the beat. “Like I’m the only one that you’ll ever love, like I’m the only one who knows your heart” You continued, starting to “sweep” the floor again while grooving to the beat of the song, not noticing Sam who was silently watching you.
“Like I’m the only one who’s in command” Your voice blending into the music as you rocked around the room, singing your heart out to the chorus. “Cause I’m the only one who understands how to make you feel like a ma一 Sam!”
You dropped the broom, jumping up in the air as you turned around to see your boyfriend leaning by the wall, watching you with an amused expression while holding his arms out to you. “Are you just gonna stand there or come here and give me a hug?” He questioned, raising up an eyebrow at you.
Wasting no time, you paused the song before making your way over to him and jumped into his arms, wrapping your legs around his waist as you hugged him. “How long have you been here? Why are you here already? Shouldn’t you be coming home tomorrow?” Your bombardment with questions made him chuckle, his arms going under your thighs to support your weight, walking towards the couch and settling the both of you on there.
“I wanted to surprise you, baby. We finished a little bit earlier than expected so the moment we got back to the compound I was well on my way home.” He answered, one of his hands retreating from your backside to sneak up and cup your jaw, thumb tracing it gently. His eyes were locked with yours, filled with adoration and love as he continued, “turns out you have a surprise of your own for me. What’s got you cleaning so aggressively?”
You laughed, the anger you had just moments ago melting away as you lean into his touch, “It’s nothing, Sammy. Just me being a little jealous, is all.” You explained, finding it easy to admit your feelings. Your relationship with him was just like that; centered on honesty, understanding, and love. The reason why you’re so assured with him.
“Jealous? What’s got my baby jealous?” His brows were furrowed at the answer, mind trying to remember his actions prior to this conversation to see if he had done anything wrong but came up with nothing. “Did I do something?” He questioned, sitting up a bit as the conversation got more serious.
“I just saw this picture of this you and this actress posted on her instagram and一” you paused, finding it silly now that you’ve even been this jealous about this in the first place. “一I just got jealous that she could post you on their social media so freely. Kind of made me realize that I’m still not existent in the eyes of others; I should be the one posting you like that. Kind of made me realize that I’m not the only girl in the world that wants you.” you finished, not wanting to look into his eyes anymore at the sudden sadness from being hidden.
Normally, you wouldn’t even bat an eye on it but seeing how broken you were, Sam was shattered that you had to go through that thought. “There’s no need to feel ashamed that you got jealous, Y/N.” He said, the hand that was on your jaw now going under your chin to make you look at him again. “I know I insisted that I hide you from the public eye so you can be safe from harm and I’m sorry that because of it makes you feel like this.”
He sighed softly, leaning in to press a chaste kiss against your lips. “But if you’re ready to be introduced to everyone, even to the team, then I’ll be more than glad to show you to the world.” Sam said, his lips just millimeters away from yours, “The only girl I’ll ever love.” He finished, locking his lips with yours.
You swore on the fact that Sam’s lips were made for your own, the pace slow and sensual, enough to relay that he was sticking to his words and that you didn’t need to worry about anything. His plush tiers felt soft against yours, his teeth sinking into your bottom one, nibbling against it softly before swiping his tongue against it.
“Does my angel want me to show her how much she really means to me?” He whispers, pressing one more kiss to your lips before pulling back, locking his gaze with yours, pupils blown with love and adoration clouded with a hint of lust over the thought of seeing you squirm under him.
Given the fact that you were sitting on his lap, you could feel how hard he was under you. “You feel that, darling? You do that to me.” He groans as you shift, the friction causing his dick to twitch inside his tight jeans. “Be a good girl and use your words, baby.”
“Want you, Sam.” You say, mind too aroused and clouded with perverse thoughts due to the lack of touch you had from him this week to make a concise sentence. “Want you to make me feel good, please.” You beg, brows furrowing lightly in need as you watch him study your expression, a small smile forming on his lips as he easily hoists you up, arms gripping your thighs.
“How can I resist such a good girl begging for me to make her feel good?” He questions, gracing your lips with another chaste kiss as he carries you into your shared bedroom, placing you on the bed as he hovers above you. “I’ll make you feel so good tonight, sweets.”
His lips are then on yours again, his lower half grinding on yours a few times to rile you up, making you elicit a few moans that caused him to go overdrive. He grunts, taking in the scandalous sounds you make before sitting back up, taking the shirt off from your body, throwing his head back at the sight of you clad in only your underwear. “You do know how to make me go wild, baby doll.”
You smiled at him, happy that you were able to make him go haywire at just the sight of you not even fully naked. “My clothes never seem to stay on with you around anyways.” You answer, making him chuckle lightly as he started to attack your neck with kisses, nipping at the skin quite harshly making you hiss in pleasurable pain.
“You look better naked” was all he said before taking in one of your breasts, tongue swirling around the hard nub as his hand teased the other, fingers pinching on it lightly making you take a sharp gasp. He did this for a few moments before kissing his way from the valley of your breasts all the way down to the top of your panties.
Sam looked up at you with a devilish grin upon the realization of what lingerie you were wearing, “My angel looks so good.” he praises, taking a moment to admire your already fucked out appearance with lips swollen and hickey littered skin. He was quick to take off your underwear, eyes filled with hunger at the sight of your soaking cunt.
This feeded his ego to no ends, seeing you so needy for him. “I haven’t even touched you yet you’re already so wet for me, baby girl.” he commented, hands caressing your inner thighs teasingly as he took a moment to drink in the sight of you.
The way his rough and slightly calloused hands were in juxtaposition to the smoothness of your skin granted goosebumps to run along your skin, the cold air of the room adding on to your arousal. “Sam, please. Need you.” You begged once more, attempting to close your legs for some needed friction but his sudden grip on it making you think otherwise.
“Almost there, baby. Patience.” He said, bringing two digits to very lightly graze upon your slit before bringing it up to your lips, his thumb tapping your bottom lip, “Open up, sweets. Wanna see you taste yourself first.” He ordered, wanting to see you suck on his fingers.
Wanting nothing more than his touch, you easily obliged and took his fingers in without him prying them open. Your eyes were locked with his as you sucked on it, setting a blaze inside his eyes that you haven’t seen before, that lone making your stomach twist in knots.
As soon as Sam was satisfied at how wet you made his fingers, he finally gave your throbbing pussy the attention it yearned for. Inserting the two digits inside of you with ease as he slowly started to pump it in and out of your heat while his thumb rubbed circles on your sensitive bundle of nerves.
You were a moaning mess under his touch, back arching at the slightest touch he would do to your clit. You were overwhelmed with the pleasure he was providing you. “F-fuck!” You breathlessly moan, hips bucking up as you wanted more of his touch.
Sam then leaned, tongue lapping up your sweet juices as he sucked on your aching clit, the gentle suckling was sinful to your ears. He moaned at the taste of you, its vibrations against you making you whine at the contact. He curled his fingers inside you, easily finding your sweet spot upon seeing how you writhed under his touch.
With Sam’s tongue abusing your clit to no end and his digits mercilessly pumping in and out of you, the tension was all too much to handle that the knot that was in your stomach finally broke. “Go on, baby. Come for me, why don’t you.” He said, feeling how your walls were clamping up around him. The euphoria that followed made your legs tremble as you reached your high, shamelessly moaning Sam’s name mixed with profanities as he continued to finger you through your orgasm.
“Such a good girl for me” Was his words, rising up from his position. You watched as he licked up every last drop of your cum off his fingers, rolling off the bed to rid himself off from his own clothes, your mouth practically watering at the sight of his rock hard length that sprung out from the tight confinements of his boxers.
You were gonna reach out to feel him when he stopped you, “No, baby. Tonight, it’s all about you, remember?” he said, stroking his length a few times, thumb circling around his tip that was glistening with pre-cum as he got back on the bed, positioning himself on top of you. “You ready?”
“Y-yes, Sam.” and upon hearing your answer, he eased into you. Both moaning at the longing of feeling each other intimately. No matter how many times the two of you would fuck, you still couldn’t get used to his size. He filled you up quite easily, his hips meeting yours as he filled you in deep.
Ever the gentleman, he waited for you to give the signal that you were ready and upon your nod, he started to move slowly, wanting to ease you into the pace.. Sam’s groans were music to your ear, “So fucking tight, angel.” He said, one of his hands reaching up to wrap around your neck, pressing against its sides lightly.
“F-faster, Sam. Please” You said and he complied, like your words were pressed a switch in him, he started to relentlessly slam into you, fucking you into the bed and into oblivion. His other hand was on the headboard, palm spread out to gain some support, the bed shaking violently as he continued.
“Let me hear those moans, angel. Let everyone know who you belong to.” Sam said, the hold around your neck tightening slightly, wanting to see you slowly gasp out for air as you let out those heavenly yet sinful sounds, “Who do you belong to, baby?”
“Y-You, Sam!” You answer, feeling your body writhe as another orgasm was already brewing at the pit of your stomach. “F-fuck, I-i’m yours!” You continued, eyes practically rolling to the back at the immense amount of pleasure you got from him drilling you into the mattress.
With those words that left your lips, he started to pound to you even rougher, not caring if the neighbouring apartments heard your cries of pleasure or the squeaking of the bed. You were his and it was his very intention to let everyone know that. “That’s right, doll. You belong to me.” he said, his eyes on your fucked out face. “Mine to fuck and mine to love.”
Feeling the knot in your stomach about to burst, your hands were gripping the bed sheets as you cried out in pleasure, “I’m gonna cum!” body unable to handle the amount of pleasure being handed to you as Sam continued to fuck you out, riding out your high until his own climax hit with one final slam, moaning as he filled you up with his own cum.
Pulling out slowly, Sam took the time to admire his own cum mixed with your drip down from your cunt, a feeling of satisfaction spread through his chest at the sight of you. He leaned in to kiss you once again, this time it was soft and just filled with love, hand running along your sides gently, “Such a good girl for me.” he whispered, pressing one last kiss before he stood up and walked over to the bathroom.
You attempted to follow him, but ultimately failed as your legs were shaking too much from your recent orgasm. You could hear Sam chuckle as he re-emerged from the other room, a wet washcloth in his hand as he approached you. “Let me take care of it, alright princess?” He said softly.
He then started to clean you up, making sure to whisper soft praises about how you took him so well and of how you were so good for him. The moment he was done, he mindlessly threw the cloth into the hamper, collapsing on the bed and took you in his arms, eager to cuddle you. Sam pressed a soft kiss to your forehead, “I love you, Y/N. You’re the only girl I’ll ever love.”
You hummed softly, making yourself comfortable in his arms, reaching up to steal a kiss from him, “I love you too, Sammy. I’ll always love you.”
eyes off you ( hermione granger )
this is for kelly’s 3k writing challenge!! @anchoeritic ily kells<3
pairing: hermione granger x slytherin!reader ( half blood prince )
gender neutral! reader ( if there is a mistake or i accidentally used she/her pronouns let me know and ill fix it! )
warnings: small mentions of abuse at home, other than that just fluff and awkwardness.
notes: inspired by the song ‘eyes off you’ by prettymuch, the lyrics are bolded and italicized. y/n is the biggest simp. please ignore my grammar mistakes and my horrendous sentence structure. this also gives off major jily vibes, so do what you will with that information. I kinda went off with this I'm so sorry if it starts to get boring. images are from pinterest.
word count - 1.9k
Tumblr media
hermione granger was a stubborn girl, that was one thing you knew for sure. when the two of you first met she had been adamant on hating your guts, excessive flirting and all. it was your persistence is what really got through to her; like starting to hang out in the library because you knew she would be there, and helping her pick up her books when some asshole seventh year—adorning the same infamous emerald green you did—tripped her up in the hall ( although not before threatening the bugger in her honour first ).
at the end of the day, the little acts of service were the things that made hermione swallow her pride and finally go on a damn date with you. at first, harry and ron were in utter shock that the girl was even considering going on a date with “the enemy” as they oh-so-subtly put it. but she just told them they were being overly dramatic, and that their input into who she decides to date was simply inadequate. so was it ever the surprise that one day when you finally worked up the courage to ask her, she actually said yes.
“are you serious?” you had expressed your complete disbelief of the words you just heard come out of the curly haired girls mouth.
“yes y/n, i am dead serious.” she had echoed back to you, looking thoroughly amused.
you were astonished, the girl that you quite frankly couldn’t take your eyes off of since fifth year actually agreed to go out with you. the gryffindor girl specifically that you had set your sights on, ignoring the warnings from your friends and backlash from your family, it had all paid off. becoming more defiant with your family last summer was no easy deed, but you knew the yelling and even the hitting was better than whatever they were scheming up for you this summer. lord voldemort was getting even closer to making sure he had a solid, fucked up, but loyal fanbase and you knew you would soon be a part of it if you didn’t get your shit together. you pretty much had a foolproof plan to get the hell out of your psycho household, you just needed to wait for the right moment to act on it.
amidst all of this, you knew it was dangerous to get involved with a muggle born, and you knew you were being selfish by risking yours and hermione’s lives. but there was something about her. the way she would make you feel when your insistent nagging got her lips to turn up just a little bit, or when you did something particularly embarrassing and finally got a boisterous laugh to erupt from her mouth in the middle of potions ( snape was not happy with the two of you ).
so you knew it was dangerous, you really did. but as soon as you saw hermione in the corridor right outside of the slytherin common rooms, waiting for you like you had anxiously asked her to after dinner yesterday, you knew you were down bad. you knew you were down bad because as soon as you saw her face drop when draco malfoy approached her, your heart lurched and you basically sprinted to where she was standing. she was in the middle of telling malfoy to shut up when you slid up beside her and threw an arm around her shoulder ( because protective instincts.... duh! ), somehow managing to simultaneously tell him to “sod off” and flip him the bird while hermione sunk into your side like there's no place she’d rather be.
as the two of you ran off, you couldn't help but mutter into her ear “mione, i'm not sure.....but i think his father will be hearing about this.”
you had a feeling that the laugh she let out was one you’d be hearing in your dreams for a while.
“so, where would you like to take me y/n.” she spoke, the air of the previous laughter still heard in her voice.
“tell me anything you wanna do.”
she hummed  “i don't know. how about the three broomsticks?”
while you were mulling it over, she slipped her hand in yours. your head immediately turned to meet her eyes.
there's no touch or feeling
pleasure or pain
anything like the way you're runnin' through my veins
the sudden affection had you choked up, and you had to clear your throat before continuing “um, that sounds great.”
as soon as the consent left your lips she was dragging you up the road and into the warmth of the pub, where madame rosmerta greeted the two of you at the front door. hands still intertwined, you ordered two butterbeer before wandering off into a booth. it was cozy, and you found yourself ravishing in the feeling of it all; going on hogsmeade dates, holding hands, and curling up in a booth with your drinks. it wasn’t long before you and hermione were mindlessly chatting about anything and everything, falling so deeply into conversation. only breaking out when you make her laugh, or when you go speechless at the broad smile that completely lights up her face, something that you noticed was specifically reserved for silly stories about harry and ron or her parents. you hoped that someday she would be able to talk about you with that marvellous smile on her face.
“you’re staring.” she looked adorably embarrassed at the sentiment, heat rising to her cheeks.
“I just can't take my eyes off of you.” it was a bold ( albeit true ) statement, and hermione swore to merlin you looked like you never meant any other utterance more.
“that's very generous of you, but i'm afraid i'm not that attractive.”
you looked at her in complete disbelief, “okay, okay, i’m going to wholeheartedly disregard what you just said,” taking a pause for dramatic effect “because you are the single most beautiful girl i've ever laid my eyes on, hermione granger.”
if the girl wasn’t blushing before, she was now. the way she was scrunching up her nose was the cutest, and you found her obvious inability to take a compliment quite charming. it actually boosted your own confidence, and you found yourself wanting to shower her with praises for the rest of your life just to see her reaction over and over again.
“what?” you teased, a sly smile making its way onto your face, “don't tell me potter and co deprive you of the flattery you deserve.”
the way she tilted her head and had her eyes narrowed ever so slightly told you everything you needed to know, she watched as your eyes widened in shock but shook it off because of the awkward air that was suddenly formed over the topic.
you were quite literally panicking, what if you just ruined everything? curse your slytherin ambition, you must’ve gone too far with your allusive comments. hermione hadn’t talked for about five minutes now, opting to finish her butterbeer, and the energy full of endless conversation dissipated long ago. your mug was still half full, sitting in front of you. you were just sitting there, staring at it, frantically searching your brain for something to talk about but you were fucking blanking. you were failing at pretty much the only thing you pride yourself on, and it happened to be the thing that got hermione to even go out with you in the first place.
once hermione was finished nursing her drink, you decided to speak now before she decided to make up an excuse to leave. “I'm sorry if I went too far, I do that sometimes and I made you uncomfortable, and i'm so sorry.”
then, she did the one thing you would have never even fathomed. she laughed. the girl was chortling, her head thrown back and when she finally came down from her fit she had tears running down her face.
“I'm sorry,” she said, noticing your eyebrows furrowed in concern “i've just never had someone apologize for complimenting me.”
you let out an anxious chuckle, “well you did kind of stop talking there, i figured i hit a nerve.”
“oh no! i just used to, um, fancy ron and he hasn't complimented me nearly as much in 6 years then you’ve had in an hour.” she stumbled over her words a bit as she spoke, evidently uncomfortable discussing her previous crush on weasley.
“well,” you dragged on, “i think you deserve all the flattery in the world.”
you swore to salazar slytherin himself her smile lit up the whole room, and your heart swelled when she reached over the table to grab both of your hands and link them with hers.
“how about we go for a walk, the black lake maybe?” the suggestion brought your attention to how dark it had gotten outside, you estimated that you had about an hour till the sun set. you smirked.
“I see you’re trying to snag a sunset kiss by the black lake, granger.”
your smirk turned into a full on smile as she got flustered once again, biting her lower lip.
“it's absolutely barbaric that you would allude to that, l/n.” the sarcasm was clear in her tone as you both erupted in a fit of giggles.
leaving the three broomsticks hand in hand once again, the two of you made your way down to the lake. you take off the sweater you were wearing to spread it across the grass for you and hermione to settle yourselves on. it wasn't very big, but neither of you seemed to mind as you snuggled into each other against the nights breeze. your arm making its way around her shoulder as she wrapped her arms around your waist and rested her head on your shoulder.
you two watched the sunset in silence. it wasn’t awkward like a few minutes ago, there wasn’t a need to fill it with dialogue, it was completely comfortable. hermione adjusted under your arm and turned her head to look at you, the sudden change in direction making a few curls get caught in her glossed lips. before she could even lift her arm, you were already there, brushing her hair behind her ear. your hand found its home behind her neck as you angled your head to brush your nose against hers, her lip unconsciously making its way in between her teeth again.
you took a sharp breath and spoke, “every little thing you do drives me wild.”
“are you gonna give me that kiss, or keep talk-”
you could feel her words melt away against your lips as you took action and pushed her head towards yours. her hands tightening around your waist and her soft sighs as your lips connect act as reminders that she wants this as much as you, and you are so damn thankful that she leans back in after you separate to take a breath.
and the sun sets with the two of you, hanging onto each other like you were each others lifelines, previous thoughts about your family or the stupid slytherin/gryffindor feud are long gone by now.
you decide that you can deal with all of your problems in the near future, because now you have hermione safe in your arms, and that's more than enough motivation for you to stay right where you are.
Love You | Chapter 02
Tumblr media
Summary: A chance encounter has all the makings of a lifetime love.
Chapter Summary: Odette thanks Squad 3.
Series Masterlist
WC: ~3K
Warning(s): none I don't think
Pairing: Kelly Severide x Odette Barlow (Original Character)
“Soooo, what are you going to do?” Aria asked Odette. The part-time clerk was leaning on the front counter, scrolling through Instagram while Odette added the freshly baked red velvet cake to the wide display case.
Aria was referencing the dog that Odette had hit a couple of mornings ago on her way to her bakery. Odette was frazzled for the rest of the day, constantly checking in with the vet’s office. In between baking cakes and cookies, she used her resources at hand to attempt to find the owner of the dog. She even made the errand of running to Office Depot to print out a bunch of flyers to distribute. No one yet had claimed the pet, but the dog’s surgeon agreed that Odette could take the dog home tomorrow to allow it to recuperate after its major injuries. Hearing the poor pup would survive was a weight off her shoulders, but that hadn’t abated any of her guilt for hitting the dog in the first place.
In her head, she’d been calling him Oakley since he suddenly ran out from an expanse of large oak trees and along the road she was driving. It didn’t feel right to be taking him in temporarily without giving him a name. She made a note to stop by PetCo after work to get him some food and a comfy crate mat for the house. She hated her fixer upper home that her dad had left her after his passing, but she was now lucky for the roomy yard space it provided so that Oakley could move around some while healing.
“Well right now, I’m gonna go take some of these treats to the firefighters who helped me out. And I’ll take Oakley home with me tonight. …I don’t really know much to do after that.” Odette shrugged.
She looked around at her bakery with pride before gesturing towards the back.
“Can you go get me one of those large pink boxes, please?”
Aria went to go grab one and came back with it already folded up. Odette left a few slices of the red velvet cake out on the large plate and then bent down to get a few other trays with cake slices on them. She made sure to choose a variety of sweets to hopefully appease the taste of all four firefighters who’d assisted her. Piling it on, she was also mindful to add extra for other firefighters who may have wanted in on the sweets.
“Here’s a couple of slices of cheesecake too.”
Aria handed Odette a smaller pink box to also bring to the first responders. Odette secured the top of both of them with her glittery stickers that donned the shop’s name on them. Aria smiled at her and moved to the side to allow Odette the room to walk around the counter.
“Alright, I’m off! I should be back in about an hour or so.”
Aria nodded and walked ahead to hold open the door for Odette, seeing her off.
As Odette turned on her car and let the conditioned air roll in, she pulled up the Internet page that provided the location of Firehouse 51. She remembered spotting the Squad 3 name and insignia on the firetruck as she drove off to the vet’s. It didn’t take too much work to discover that its house was No. 51. With a couple of more clicks, the phone plugged in its address and began sounding off directions.
Being back in Chicago was still taking some getting used to. She moved away after college and only recently returned after her father’s untimely death. Her mother had moved a state over after the divorce and Odette decided it was the right thing for her to remain close to home. It had been a dispiriting thing, losing her father, but moving into his old house had made her feel closer to him. She was slowly but surely renovating the house and the process had been healing for her. His final gift, a large lump sum of cash that the cheapskate man never spent, was saved for her, his only child. His heartbreaking letter revealed that he knew his time was coming and he wanted only to fulfill one final wish: give her the means to quit the job she so miserably hated and build her own dream bakery. Between TopCake finally taking off and his fixer upper house finally coming together, Odette had climbed out of her hole of bleakness and found something resembling contentment.
As the automated voice guided her to her destination, Odette reflected on how a mere year could make such a difference. She finally found herself in a state of bliss. So much so that all she wanted to do was share that with others. She smiled to herself, proud of her frame of mind.
Still in her joyful disposition, Odette parked her car to the side of the fire house, away from the garage that held the fire trucks and ambulance.
As she walked around to the other side of her car, a blonde man popped his head out and gave a short wave. Odette smiled back and went to retrieve the boxes of treats. The man had approached her and he returned her smile.
“Can I help you?” He queried. His expression wasn’t necessarily confused, people stopping by with treats for firefighters was probably no uncommon behavior. But, the lilt in his eyes told Odette that he was curious.
“Yeah, I’m wondering if Squad 3 is stationed here?” She looked around at the trucks, but she couldn’t quite see the letterings on the rigs due to the shining sun rays that blocked much of the apparatus area from where she stood.
She was too busy looking around to notice the rise in the man’s eyebrows.
“Were you the one with the injured puppy?”
Odette looked at him and sighed with a laugh. “Yeah, that’s me.” She replied. “He’s not my puppy. I just have terrible driving reflexes and hit the poor guy. The guys who helped, their truck was Squad 3. I just wanted to thank them for their help.” She gestured towards the boxes.
The man kindly took the boxes from her, careful as he transferred them from her hands to his. “Here, let me help you with that.” He offered before taking them. Then, he pointed his head towards the firehouse and gestured for her to follow him. “Come with me.”
Meanwhile, the Squad guys were out at their namesake table playing cards. Tony had spotted Odette as she pulled up and silently got the attention of Capp. Capp looked up to where Tony was motioning and was met with the image of Casey talking with who he had nicknamed “puppy girl.”
They both smirked at each other and silently spoke with their faces only. Severide was too deep into the game and had not even noticed their shenanigans. Capp took the lead in gaining his attention.
“Hey Severide.”
“Yeah?” Kelly replied, not even looking up.
“You still thinking about puppy girl?”
Kelly huffed and glared up at Capp. He was currently losing and getting ribbed on again wasn’t helping his mood. Capp had made it a point to crack a joke more than a few times at his expense.
“Knock it off.” He retorted before looking down at his cards again.
“Well, if you’re not interested, that gives Casey the all clear to make a move.”
Kelly’s eyes immediately snapped up and ignored the grinning faces of his crew. Instead, they were in search of Casey. They crossed around the whole apparatus floor before leaning his head a little bit and looking out at the driveway. There, he could see Casey taking two pink cardboard boxes from his spell-binding crush. They were beginning to walk towards the shade of the app floor. He stood from his chair and walked to meet them in the middle. Her smile went from curious to full blown vibrancy as their eyes met. The cooling effect it had on them was not lost to his senses. In fact, it stopped him in his tracks and his eyes widened at the new found sensation.
Her effect on him was also not lost on Casey, who had bit his lip to suppress the taunting smirk that was fighting to make its presence known. He was eating this shit up and Kelly knew he was in for it once his best friend got him alone.
“Hey, you.” Her airy voice greeted him.
There was something so dulcet about the simple greeting. It shifted his insides and just melted him. He cleared his throat, unwilling to let the croak that was resting in it give way.
“Hey.” He simply greeted.
He took a small step closer and lessened some of the distance between them and Casey. He saw the boxes that Casey held and thanked his lucky stars that she felt so moved to bring them treats. Maybe it meant that she was thinking about him as much as he had about her. He never complained when people brought in treats out of gratitude, but he’d never before been so ecstatic.
“I just wanted to bring you all something sweet for your help the other day.” She lifted the top of the smaller container and he noticed the bakery logo on the sticker over the opening clasp.
“Wow, you didn’t have to buy us food.”
She chuckled, “I didn’t, actually. I baked it. There’s plenty for whoever wants a slice.” Casey had closed the container and took the boxes to the squad table, leaving Kelly and Odette alone. “There’s a good mix, so hopefully something sweet for everyone.” She added.
“Oh, I think Severide has a liking for sweet things!” Capp shouted out.
Kelly made a note to put him on grunt work the next time he was responsible for doling out 51’s housekeeping tasks.
He walked a little closer to her, causing her to move back with him in tempo.
“You never told me your name.”
“Oh!” She’d just realized. It was only a few seconds ago that she had learned that his name was Severide.
“I’m Odette.”
“Odette.” He repeated, unable to tear his eyes off the vision in front of him. He nodded and continued to ignore the snickering behind him. He looked down at his watch, temporarily. Lunch rush was over. It didn’t completely eliminate, but it significantly decreased his chances of getting called out to an incident. With a risk, he asked, “Do you want to sit and have some with me?” He pointed back at the table where the guys were already digging in. Tony had gone inside momentarily to get plates and utensils.
Someone could have lit a lightbulb with all the electricity flowing through his body when Odette nodded yes.
Kelly turned and they walked in step back to the squad table. He motioned to his seat and pulled it out further for her to sit. Sitting in the seat adjacent to her was too far for Kelly, so he simply sat on the table at the corner, leaning back to observe the treats. The sweet aroma filled his nostrils and he smiled at the various contents within the box.
“Anything you recommend?” He asked as he looked back at her.
She grinned, “Well, the cinnamon rolls go well with coffee. Italian cream is what I usually use for wedding cakes, but it’s one of my most popular. Strawberry cheesecake is a classic, but that’s only for if you like fruit on your desserts.”
Kelly looked back at the sweets again and thought about his choices.
“They all smell so good.” He commented.
Odette giggled, “My favorite are the brownies. And I even gave you guys the center pieces so you know it’s real.”
They chuckled together and Kelly grabbed one of the brownies. He didn’t even try to hide the satisfied moan as the chocolate gooiness hit his taste buds. He only hoped it wasn’t too obscene for the current setting.
“You like it?” She held her hands together, near her face, waiting for his verdict.
Kelly wouldn’t pause his chewing for anything, so he spoke with a full mouth, “It’s amazing.” He pronounced. His mouth was like a vacuum as it gathered up the rest of the treat and ate it all up. He even licked his fingers, not wanting to waste even a smudge of it. She smiled in response and he wondered how the beam of it was so captivating.
“Well, what’s all this and why weren’t we invited?” Mouch opened the door, getting ready to do his hourly walk around the premises to keep from remaining stationary on the couch all day. Immediately, he detoured and walked closer to them. Casey gestured to the open boxes, which Mouch promptly searched for something of his desire. Hearing all the noise, Herrmann soon followed and ventured over. He noticed Odette and the closeness with which Severide was sitting to her and smirked before he too grabbed for a dessert.
If he was of clearer mind, he would have snapped at them that this was the squad table and that they weren’t even present at the incident in which he’d met Odette, but he was too calm to say anything of that. Instead, he just rolled his eyes and veered them back to Odette. She was greeting the new faces and detailing the cake and cheesecake flavors laid out in front of them.
Casey had asked a few probing questions to Odette: “Where are you from?” “Where’s your bakery located?” “Would the dog survive?”
He and Kelly had locked eyes and they softened in appreciation for his best friend helping him out a bit. It wasn’t often that Casey entertained Severide’s love life, but he was a good wingman when wanted to be.
Before long, Boden had walked out, more than likely curious as to where all his officers were. Not used to seeing so many people ganged up at the squad table, he asked, “What’s all this?”
“Ah, Squad helped this sweet young lady out the other day. She came by and brought treats for everyone.” Herrmann supplied.
“Technically, just squad.” Capp intervened. “Not everyone.”
“Hey, what kind of dog is he? He looked full grown, but still pretty small.” The Squad 3 floater asked.
“Affenpinscher. I looked it up afterwards to see if there was any specific info I should know about them while I take him in.” Odette said.
“You’re gonna keep him?” Kelly questioned.
“For the time being, at least. Haven’t found his owner yet.”
“You know, that’s really kind. Looking after him the way you are. And the fact that you were so thoughtful to bring sweets as a show of thanks.”
Casey looked over at Severide again and gave the subtlest of nods and a smile of approval.
“Thanks, I know it’s technically your jobs and everything, but still deserves some appreciation,” Odette conveyed.
“That’s very kind of you.” Boden added.
Her eyes twinkled in appreciation at the appreciation and she smiled at all the friendly faces that surrounded her.
The dispatch alarms went off and all of the companies were being called to respond to a construction site collapse on the other side of town. Without needing to be prompted, Odette could sense the urgency of the encounter and rose from her seat.
“Thank you again, ma’am, for the desserts.” Boden bid goodbye as he hopped into his Battalion wagon. Everyone else was putting on their gear and hopping into their respective rigs. Odette began to speedily walk to her car and Kelly walked with her halfway until he was at his own turnout gear and boots.
Odette kept walking but she waved at him with a smile like honey.
Kelly’s mind was currently fumbling, what with the emergency at hand, but also the fact that he had no way to contact her. He obviously couldn’t just stall right here, he had a job to do and there were people that needed him right now. But damn, if there wasn’t anything he’d do right now to just stay. He was too in his own head and attempting to find focus to say anything else to her. He waved back and got into his seat in the truck. As they headed out, she was getting into her car and watching them leave.
He forced himself to zap her from his brain by the time he got to the scene. There were several construction workers injured and the structure was still unstable and at risk of doing anymore damage. He stepped into this element, corralling people from the impact site, delegating tasks to his Squad crew for tools, stabilizing as much concrete as possible. By the time it was all over, the day was transitioning into evening and Kelly’s bones were aching. He sank into his ‘assigned’ seat at the squad table and internally begged not to be bothered.
Most of everyone had gone to the common room, with the hour so closer to dinner time. The sun was still out, but slowly making its descent to sunset. He welcomed the few degrees lost in temperature and allowed a few moments to rest his eyes and clear his mind.
The delicate winds whirred through the air and into the apparatus area, eliciting soft sounds as papers rustled and leaves lifted a bit off the ground. When he opened his eyes again, he looked out at the table, now abandoned with empty tray boxes, firehouse magazines, and playing cards. His lied faced down and on a closer look, he could see that one of the cards was torn in half.
He grabbed at it and pulled his chair in closer with confusion, looking for the other piece of it. Rifling through the various items on the table, he saw the other half of the card, a Queen of Hearts, adhered to the table with the TopCake logo sticker. Over the card’s drawing was a phone number and Odette’s name atop.
Lana's Angel
lana winters x reader
warnings: guns, violence, blood, and wounds
wc: 3k+
Tumblr media
It has been weeks and weeks of isolation. Lana had just finished a rather extensive story and was not being received very well by her peers or the community really. She had uncovered a string of wrongdoings in a local church and had been determined to expose the pastor and deacons behind it all. None of the congregation was ready to hear that their beloved clergy was really more sinister than what the bible talked about, but Lana had a job to do, and she was going to do it. In return, she’d been receiving a great deal of hate from someone. Hate mail sent to her office was normal, nothing compared to what she’d already been through, but now they’d found her house. She’d been getting letters addressed to her home with no return address, and her team felt it would be safer for her to isolate for a bit in hopes that things would die down. She’d been staying in her home for about a week now and was trying to take this time to relax and vacation per the request of her agent, but she was getting restless. Lana Winters had been through hell; she wasn’t going to let a few bible thumpers keep her inside. The most concerning thing for Lana was not knowing who was doing this. The journalist in her wants to go full Sherlock and find out who’s behind all of this, but her agent had told her he’d be in charge of all of that, and she was to stay put.
“Ladies, Charlie’s got a new one for us,” Bosley said as the four women entered the office.
“Wow, we just landed last night. Must be rather important, don’t you think, ladies.” Kelly said as she moved to sit on the couch.
“Oh, it’s definitely of some importance. Charlie always gives us a bit of a break before going back into a new case. Next day must be of the most importance.” Kris said as she took a seat, followed by Sabrina and Y/n.
“Well, Angels, I’ll tell you what’s so important. A close friend of mine is having a bit of trouble with one of his clients. She’s gotten herself into a bit of trouble. Famous author and reporter Lana Winters has been receiving anonymous letters and death threats with no return address. And her agent needs our help finding out who is behind it.” Charlie said, causing the women in the room to nod in understanding.
“Isn’t she that lesbian reporter who they locked up in that Briarcliff place a few years ago?” Sabrina asked, turning her head to the group.
“Oh yeah, I read her book. The things they did to her? I couldn’t imagine.” Y/n added as she shuddered uncomfortably in her seat.
“Well, since you all know of her, why don’t you go by her home to introduce yourselves. We want to handle this as soon as possible. Her agents want her back out in public as soon as possible.” Charlie’s voice broke through the speaker again.
“Try to make nice with her; we don’t want to offend her or anything,” Bosley warned the women with a glare. The women chuckled, rolling their eyes as they put their coats on.
“Oh, and angels, she’s not expecting you. You might have to do a bit of persuading.” Charlie called out. The four women let out groans of frustration before rolling their eyes and leaving the office.
“Y/n you’ve been kinda quiet, are you okay?” Kelly asked as they all hopped into the car and headed for Lana’s address.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Y/n answered before feeling Kris elbow her in the side.
“I think Y/n is just worried about meeting Lana Winters. She’s only slightly obsessed with her and everything she’s done.” Kris said cheekily.
“I’m not obsessed; I just…enjoy her work,” Y/n mumbled.
“Mmhm, sure.” Sabrina giggled as they watched Y/n’s cheeks heat up in the rearview mirror.
-
Lana was sitting in her office, cataloging potential stories, when she heard her doorbell sounding through the home. She put her things away, heading to the door, stopping to check her appearance on her way. She wasn’t expecting anyone, and the only person who actually came by now was her agent or Kit, but they always warned her before arriving. She looked through the peephole curiously and was very surprised to see four young women standing on her porch expectantly. She opened the door slowly and eyed each woman curiously. “Um, may I help you?”
“Hi Miss Winter, I’m Sabrina Duncan. And these are my colleagues Kelly Garrett, Kris Monroe, and Y/n L/n. Your agent sent us.”
Lana’s gaze fell on each of the women before stopping on the last woman mentioned. She seemed a bit shyer than the rest and hung in the back of the group. “My agent sent you?” Lana asked expectantly. The women nodded in affirmation, but Lana still felt a bit skeptical about the whole thing. Before she could get herself too worked up, she met the eyes of the woman before.
“Your agent, Harry Gold, sent us. You can call him to confirm if that will make you feel better.” Y/n said softly, gazing toward the woman warmly. The rest of the women seemed to fade in comparison as their eyes met. Lana wasn’t sure what it was about the woman, but she felt like she could trust her. So much so, she nodded and allowed the four women to enter her home as she went to phone her agent to confirm what Y/n had said.
As the angels waited in the living room area, they all turned their attention to Y/n with smirks. “Well, that was easy. For you, at least. We should’ve let you do all the talking.” Sabrina teased quietly, causing Y/n to scold her playfully as her cheeks heated in a blush.
“Shut up, Sabrina. I just did the smart thing and said her agent’s name. You know, build some credibility.” Y/n said with a roll of her eyes before Lana joined the women back in the room.
“Well, I’m sorry about all of that. I just spoke with my agent, and he explained everything to me. How about we move to the living room to talk further?” Lana offered with a slight blush on her cheeks as she watched all the women nod before following her further into the house.
Each of the angels took a seat on the couch across from the older author and waited patiently for the woman to address them again. “So, what exactly is the plan here?”
“Well, Miss Winters, our goal is to identify and arrest whoever is harassing you. And we’d like to do that as quickly and as easily as possible.” Kelly spoke first.
“Since you are a pretty well-known author, the list of people after you could be pretty long compared to our other clients, so we’ve decided that one of us will stay with you at all times. You’ll treat her like your assistant, but she’ll basically be your bodyguard until we get all of this taken care of.” Sabrina explained. “We want you to be comfortable with all of us, but whoever you choose to stay with you will be with you at all times, so we suggest you pick wisely.”
Lana looked over at the four women; she didn’t really know enough about them to decide this. They had literally just walked into her home 30 seconds ago. As her eyes roamed all of the beautiful women, she found herself drawn to the same woman from earlier. She was quiet, but she provided a sense of comfort for Lana. She just had a calming energy about her. And Lana had to admit to herself, despite all of the women being beautiful, outrageously so, she wouldn’t mind seeing Y/n’s face a bit more.
“Um, well, since I don’t really know you all very well, don’t take it personally,” Lana said with a chuckle before her eyes landed on Y/n hopefully. “Y/n, would you be okay staying with me?”
“Absolutely, Miss Winters,” Y/n said, causing Lana to smile softly in relief before turning her attention back to Sabrina.
“Sounds good, we’ll let Bos and Charlie know, and we’ll send over your things later today. Your agent wants this handled as soon as possible, so you’re back to reporting, and in public, so we’ll try to have this all wrapped up and figured out by the end of the week. The rest of us will need to see any and all the letters and threats you’ve been receiving to analyze. So if you want to grab those for us, we’ll take them with us and then leave you both to get further acquainted. From there, we’ll continue to be in contact as the case progresses.” Sabrina finished causing Lana to nod before gathering all the materials she asked for and seeing the three of the women out of her home.
When Lana returned to the living room, she found Y/n sitting on the couch awkwardly and smiled softly at her shyness. “Uh, would you like something to drink?” Lana asked clearing her throat and coming to stand in the angel’s line of sight.
“Oh, a water would be nice,” Y/n replied, moving her eyes to the author’s eyes.
“Coming right up, sweetheart,” Lana said as she headed to the kitchen, completely missing the blush on Y/n’s cheeks.
-
They’d just hit week two of the case. They never typically took this long, but after the first week, someone found out the angels were working it. Obviously, that caused a bit more of a problem for the girls and required them to start using disguises to get anything done. Kelly had been posing as a secretary at the office Lana worked at and was scoping the office for any intel on what was going on. Sabrina was working closely with Lana’s agent, and Kris was posing as a new member of the church Lana exposed. They were all finding further information, and they’d built a pretty solid suspect list.
As all the angels worked on the outside, Lana and Y/n had developed a pretty solid relationship. They’d only left the house a couple of times within the past two weeks, but each time Lana felt more than safe with the younger woman protecting her at all times. At the beginning of Y/n’s stay, she and Lana were kind of awkward around each other. They’d have breakfast together, and then Lana would sit in her office or the dining room to work while Y/n stayed in the living room. It didn’t take long for them to settle into a routine during the day, but when night fell, things changed. It wasn’t until the third night when Y/n heard it. She was always a light sleeper, and she had opted to sleep in the living room to make sure she was ready to protect Lana if the need truly arose. So when she heard whimpering and struggling coming from Lana’s bedroom, she rushed there, ready to take down whatever was causing the woman any discomfort. When she finally made it into the room, she caught sight of the older woman tossing and turning and fighting the air. Y/n realized Lana wasn’t in any physical danger and took to helping coax the woman out of her nightmare.
After that, both women felt so much closer. Lana had been so embarrassed about the whole thing, but Y/n was quick to quell her embarrassment. She comforted her and even stayed with her all night. It was that moment Lana knew she’d made the right choice. She and Y/n’s relationship seemed to blossom past the whole bodyguard-guardee dynamic; they both considered each other a friend. It had only been two weeks, but that had to be the fastest friendship either of them had formed with someone.
“We’re fine on this end, Sabrina. Yes, Lana’s just finishing up some work before heading to bed.” Y/n spoke down the phone as she stood in the hallway outside of Lana’s office. She’d been sitting with her in the office as she’d started doing earlier in her stay. She’d read while Lana worked, and it was just an excellent time for them both. She’d stepped out into the hall when she got a call from Sabrina, not wanting to disturb Lana.
“Okay, well, we’re really close to solving this. We’ve all got suspects we want to check out tomorrow morning.” She finally said.
“Okay, don’t rule out there being more than one person, though. You said it yourself; none of the letters matched handwriting or tone either.” Y/n reminded before she and Sabrina hung up.
When she returned to Lana’s office, she retook her seat and gazed up at the older woman. She was a bit surprised to find her eyes already on her and found herself blushing deeply. “Everything okay, Miss Winters?”
“Y/n, I told you to stop calling me that. And yeah, everything is fine. Just going to miss having you around when this is all over. It gets lonely, you know?” Lana said sadly as her arms rested across her chest.
“I know what you mean, Lana. I’m going to miss seeing you sit and work all day as well.” Y/n smiled softly, causing Lana to roll her eyes playfully before smiling and returning back to her work.
-
“Y/N!”
Y/n sat up from her slumber as quickly as she’d heard her name being yelled frantically. She raced toward Lana’s bedroom, gun in hand and ready to take somebody out. Once she reached the bedroom, she saw three men crowding around the bed, one holding Lana with their hand over her mouth, the other two looking ready to rough her up a bit. Before anything could go down, Y/n shot her gun toward the ceiling startling all three men into dropping their weapons and grip on Lana. As soon as the woman was free of the man’s grasp, she rolled out of bed and ducked her way into the hallway behind Y/n. Y/n led them into a room down the hall and put her finger to her lip to keep the woman quiet as they hid. Her heart was hammering in her chest, and she was craving Y/n’s comfort right now more than ever.
“Lana, I need you to go downstairs and call the girls,” Y/n said quickly and moved to head into the hallway to face the three guys. Before Y/n could even open the door, Lana was pulling her back by her wrist frantically. Y/n looked at the woman and saw the fear in her eyes as she shook her head adamantly.
“I’m not letting you go back in there alone. No, come downstairs with me.” Lana said pulling the younger woman toward her body.
“Lana, I have to. My job is to protect you. I need to handle this; that’s what I was hired to do. I just need you to go down there and call the girls. We don’t have much time; they’ll come barreling through every room on this floor looking for you.” Y/n said, trying to persuade the woman to follow her orders.
Lana looked at the angel and seemed to weigh her options. She knew they didn’t have much time, so she needed to suck it up and call for help. She looked into Y/n’s eyes before pulling the woman into a tight hug. “Please be careful.” She whispered desperately.
Y/n nodded and hugged the woman back just as tightly, “Okay, Lana. Let me go out first, and then you run down to the phone. After you’ve phoned the girls, find a room to lock yourself in. I’ll come to find you when it’s safe. I promise.” Y/n ordered, gently waiting for the woman to nod her head in agreement. Once she got the confirmation, both women split up, hoping to see each other once this was all over.
“I can’t believe you got shot,” Kris said, looking at Y/n as she held her shoulder. They were descending the stairs together after finally subduing the men. “At least it’ll leave a pretty nifty scar.” She chuckles as Y/n rolls her eyes.
“Are the medics outside?” Y/n asked, trying to apply pressure to the wound. The adrenaline of the whole ordeal was wearing off, and she was starting to lose more blood than she’d ever seen.
“Yes, they’re outside waiting for you, hero,” Sabrina called from the front door, and she helped escort Lana’s agent, A deacon from the church, and one of Lana’s coworkers out to the police cars. Y/n still couldn’t believe Mr. Gold had been behind all of this stuff, but she was so glad that he was getting locked up for his actions.
As Y/n was about to walk out of the front door, she looked around for the brunette author she’d grown so extremely fond of. As the girls and officers continued coming in and out of the house, she got a bit worried. She headed around the lower level of the house in search of Lana, knowing she’d told her she would come and find her as soon as it was safe for her. She walked through the dim hallway of rooms and made a beeline for the farthest room on the hall, knowing Lana was far too clever to situate herself close to danger.
“Lana…” She called as she knocked on the door. It wasn’t long before the door flung open, and Lana was throwing herself into Y/n. Seeing as the adrenaline was wearing off, Y/n let out a groan of pain as soon as the author collided with her body.
Lana pulled away quickly, moving her eyes over the woman’s body frantically. When her eyes landed on the wound and blood, her eyes widened, “You got shot?” She exclaimed. “Why aren’t you on your way to the hospital? What are you doing here?” Lana ranted, turning Y/n’s body toward the front door and leading her to the closest medic.
“I promised I’d come to get you,” Y/n replied weakly as the older woman stood over her as the medics got her situated on the stretcher.
“As cute as that is, you got shot! You should’ve just come out here.” Lana said, shaking her head in disapproval.
“You think I’m cute?” Y/n asked with a goofy smile on her face.
Lana’s eyes widened, and her cheeks flushed, “Uh-well….” Lana stumbled over her words a bit before clearing her throat and squaring her shoulders. “Yes, I do think you’re cute. And once you’re out of the hospital, we can talk about that more. But right now, you need to go.”
“Yes, Miss Winters. I’ll see you later.” Y/n smiled goofily and finally allowed the medics to load her into the ambulance. Lana smiled as the doors closed and watched as they drove the angel off to be stitched up.
Happy August and welcome back to the Soukoku Library's Fic Recs! Once a month, every librarian will highlight a few fics that they personally recommend. Each recommended fic gets a review from the recommending librarian and each post will be linked on the library’s main page. Next week: Mod Dessa's Recs.
This Week - Mod Kelly
For my first rec list, I decided to go with some of my old favourites. The three fics I've chosen for this month feature a healthy dose of feel-good fluffy soukoku to leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.
As Far as East is from West by ultramarcypan
Summary He has memories, tied to each of the places they've visited together. Memories and thoughts that don't match up with the Dazai Osamu he's been warned about. Rated: Teen - WC: 3k - Oneshot - No Major Content Warnings
Review I absolutely love the way this fic is written. The way the author writes Dazai and Chuuya slowly coming together as they travel is done beautifully. You really get a sense of the intimacy growing between them through such subtle things. The ending of this fic is what really sold me. It's bright and full of hope, and yet still fits soukoku perfectly.
Just This Once (Don't Get Used To It) by Insomnia_Productions
Summary “Could you just leave me alone? You’re good at that, aren’t you?” · ~ · The day after using Corruption, Dazai runs into Chuuya—only, his ex-partner seems intent on avoiding him, not even rising to his taunts. Clearly, the situation must be remedied at once. Rated: General - WC: 3k - Oneshot - No Major Content Warnings
Review This is my personal favourite chapter 31 fix-it fic. It shows that despite how hard Dazai tries to keep Chuuya at arm's length, he can't help but react when he notices Chuuya isn't okay. Dazai's struggle against his feelings to remain emotionally distant feels in character. The author does a good job of highlighting their bond and that underlying trust that never quite fades, and they do it all through hurt/comfort fluff.
Absolutely Ridiculous by hybridempress
Summary Dazai has always found it ridiculous that Chuuya spends hundreds of dollars at a time on products meant to enhance his bathing experience and then proceeds to sit in a bathtub for hours on end for no good reason, but when Chuuya asks Dazai to join him for one of these baths, Dazai ends up finding more joy in it than he expected. Rated: General - WC: 4k - Oneshot - No Major Content Warnings
Review The author here manages to address some heavier themes in a realistic way while also keeping the overall fic lighthearted and fluffy. The whole fic is delicately balanced between seriousness and humour, conflict and compromise. The writing is lovely, with natural dialogue and attention to detail. Dazai and Chuuya are written like an actual couple working on an actual realationship, and the whole thing is refreshing.
