Divine - Kelley O'Hara x Reader
Summary: Request was along the lines of Kelley x Reader where R is like divinely attractive. like the sun always hits her perfectly and everybody is in love with her. maybe she catches her teammates watching edits of her?
A/N: it was a request and then it was on the poll from ages ago and then i told @wosobullshit that i would write it so yeah. ta-da!
No one on the team is really sure how you do it.
It seemed like no matter what was going on around you, you managed to look perfect at all times, at least in your girlfriend’s opinion.
Doesn’t matter if you just finished running the beep test, or played a full 90 in a torrential downpour, or had just rolled out of bed for one reason or another. You always looked like you just stepped out of the pages of a sports magazine, even when you were forced to wear the hideous Portland jerseys.
The thing is, your girlfriend, Kelley, can’t even explain it but she’s more than willing to stand and stare and enjoy the view.
Currently, she and the rest of the team are watching as you help some of the trainers set up the cones for a drill and for some reason it seems as though no matter how you turned, you seemed to catch the light perfectly.
“Christ,” Sonny says, whistling lowly, “the fans might be right about Y/N.”
Kelley’s quick to reach out and swat at her young friend, “Hands off Sonnett.”
“I’m just looking.”
“No looking either!”
Unfortunately for Kelley (and the rest of the team) her voice travels just enough to be heard by the coaching staff, who are quick to rush them onto the field to get practice started.
Throughout practice, you do feel more eyes on you then normal but you brush it off as the training staff wanting to keep an extra close eye on you since you were still bouncing back from an injury. Of course, you noticed Kelley staring but that isn’t really anything new as you catch her staring at all hours of the day.
There’s also the cameras that feel like they're constantly on you. Which is weird to you but you push through and get on with the drills.
That afternoon when everyone has been loaded back onto the bus and you’re on your way back to the hotel, you notice the eyes on you again and you’re also pretty sure you hear someone whispering about the vein popping out on your forehead but you’re too busy arguing with Crystal to care.
“No, Y/N/N, there’s no way that you’re trying to tell me that ‘Hit Em Up’ is a better diss track than ‘No Vaseline,’” Crystal says, “‘No Vaseline’ is the diss track.”
A very important topic of conversation.
You shake your head fiercely before speaking, “Pac started the song by saying and I quote ‘that’s why i fucked your bitch you fat motherfucker’ then ended it by making fun of Prodigy for having Sickle Cell. Cube didn’t say anything that brutal.”
“Cube also didn’t need 3 of his friends to back him up in his beef,” Crys shoots back.
“He was beefing with the dudes that helped make him famous! HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY FRIENDS LEFT TO BACK HIM UP!”
The two of you have been having this argument on and off for weeks. Always over the same two songs and there is no doubt in your mind that your teammates are sick of hearing it. Especially the ones that have to put with you in POrtland and with the national team.
“Helped make him famous?!”
“Yes!”
“Seriously?!”
“Yes!”
The two of you are both leaning across the aisle, glaring at each other at this point, faces so close together that anyone else would’ve found it uncomfortable but the two of you had grown up together and as such were unfazed by it.
Out of the corner of your eye, before you or Crystal could continue, you noticed Kelley and Sonnett sitting in the back row glancing at a phone, then back at you, then back to the phone before giggling.
“I’ll get back to you in a second, Dunny, this isn’t over,” you say before getting up and heading towards your girlfriend.
It's not that hard for her to spot you coming, being in a confined space and all. The whole tall and tattooed thing you have going isn’t really beneficial to sneaking up on people either. BUt your height is currently working in your favor because it means you can easily see the way both Kelley and Emily scramble to hide the phone (and its screen) from your view.
“Hi, baby,” Kelley says when you reach them and drop into the seat across from them.
“Yeah, ‘hi baby’” Sonny mimics, earning an elbow to the gut from her fellow Georgian.
“That’s not suspicious at all,” you mumble under your breath. “Anyway, I was wondering if the two of you troublemakers made any plans for tomorrow or if I’ll actually be able to hang out with my girlfriend at some point this camp.”
“You can have her, Y/N/N, I’ve been trying to get rid of her days,” Emily jokes.
Laughing at the offended look on Kelley’s face, you press a kiss to the side of her head before heading back to argue with Crystal.
The next day, you and Kelley are basically attached at the hip, or more accurately, the hand with the way she’s been dragging you from place to place the entire time.
And now after much convincing (read: whining) from you, you’ve finally got her to agree that a nap is a good use of your afternoon.
There’s only one issue…
“Babe, the key to a successful nap is having your eyes closed.”
“My eyes are closed.”
“They aren’t,” you say.
“How do you know my eyes aren’t closed? You’d have to have your eyes open to tell.”
“I can tell,” you say, still not opening your eyes, “because I can always tell when you’re looking at me. Even in the world’s most crowded room, the feeling of your eyes on me is unlike any other. So close them so I can sleep.”
A soft kiss is placed on the underside of your chin and there’s a bit of shuffling as Kelley tries to get comfortable. You let her squirm for about 30 seconds before you tug her firmly against you.
“Yea that’s enough of that,” you say. “And for love of God, stop staring at me.”
“You say the sweetest things to me when you’re tired.”
“Mhmm, love you too. It’s time to go night-night now.”
“That’s the tone you use with Charlie,” Kelley’s voice is indignant.
“Shhh, it’s time to go night-night.”
There’s some grumbling from the older woman but you ignore her in favor of going to sleep.
When you wake up from your nap, Kelley is nowhere to be found which isn’t very surprising. Luckily you know exactly where to find her or so you thought.
The walk to Sonny and lIndsey’s room is a quick one but you get turned away at the door by LIndsey who tells you that neither Frat Daddy is inside. She tells you that they said something about the social media team but you instantly decide you want nothing to do with that.
So instead you head off to find your best friend.
Marcel.
But to find him you need to find his mother, an easy task especially when all you have to do is follow the music. Which leads you down the hallway to the room where the PTs are set up.
Walking in, you’re not surprised to see Crystal on one of the tables getting a massage, while Lynn plays with Marcel on the ground. Out of the corner of your eye, you notice Uncle sitting on the other table getting her hands looked at, but you don’t pay any attention to that. Instead you walk in and pick your little homie up.
“Hey,” Lynn calls out.
“Sorry Lynnie,” you say, “Marcel and I have some very important business to discuss.”
“He’s one!”
“Gracie’s corner is incredibly serious stuff, Williams. Crys, I’ll come find you when he needs a diaper change.”
You hear small chuckles from Lyss and the trainers but you’re mostly focused on the way Crystal grumbles her breath while shoo-ing you out of the room.
As you leave you can just mak e out the voice of one of the trainers saying, "It's like she doesn't even know she's doing it."
Whatever that means.
You spend the next 30 or so minutes wandering around the hotel, alternating between letting the toddler run ahead of you and carrying him while he mushes his fingers against your face, babbling on about whatever 1 year olds like. You make sure to respond when he pauses, wow-ing or asking him simple questions to encourage him to continue.
Eventually, the two of you make your way down to the conference room that’s been converted to a common area for the team.
The amount of heads that immediately turn to face you makes you slightly nervous and the nerves only worsen when you see Kelley and Sonnett once again shoving their phones behind their backs.
Rolling your eyes, you go and ploop yourself and Marcel down next to Charlie, finding the company of the two toddlers more entertaining than that of your teammates.
Unnoticed by you though, both of the kids' mothers as well as a member of the social media team taking photos of the three of you. There’s also a few unheard comments directed at Kelley that may or may not have something to do with baby fever.
Life at camp continues in the same manner for the next few days with you going about your business while your girlfriend, her goofball friend, and the social media team continue to act strangely.
It all comes to a head one day after training.
The media manages to corner you before you get on the bus and they ask you to react to a few tiktoks that fans have made about you.
It takes you all of 3 seconds before you realize what you’re watching.
“Are all of these thirst edits of me,” you gasp, not removing your gaze from the screen. “This one is captioned: I’d let Y/N Y/L/N tie me. NEVERMIND!”
You manage to get through the next 5 minutes.
You stutter and blush and sweat your way through all 5 but you manage to make it through.
Not all the videos are as sexual as the first one, some feature clips of you with Marcel and Charlie but it still makes you very very uncomfy.
When you get on the bus, you’re greeted by the sight of most of the team grinning at you like maniacs, clearly already knowing what just happened.
“Who’s idea was that,” you ask, still standing up front.
No one speaks, so you groan before beginning to trudge your way to your normal seat across from Crystal.
On your way you notice the way both Kelley and Sonny can’t seem to hold back their giggles, so you pass your normal seat and go and sit with them instead.
“The two of you aren’t nearly as funny as you seem to think you are,” you say, dropping into Kelley’s lap.
“But we really are,” Sonnet laughs while poking you in the back.
“Yea it’s not our fault that the entire internet thinks you’re divine. I’m not going to be the one who argues with them.” Kelley leans up to press a kiss to your cheek but pouts when you lean away then stand up. “I love you,” she tries.
“Love you too.”

just a friend || kelley o'hara x reader ||
just some fwb smut
minors dni, 18+, smut ahead.
you looked good in kelley's bed. it was a conclusion that you had come to a long time ago, way back at your first national team camp. kelley seemed to disagree with you, but the two of you had hooked up enough times for her to come around to agreeing with you. now, she seemed to like seeing you in her bed more than anywhere else.
"what a game," you tried to start a conversation in vain. you and kelley had just finished your game against each other, and admittedly, you understood why she wouldn't want to talk about it. kelley was extremely competitive, and you had just kicked her ass.
"shut up," kelley muttered against your lips as she kissed you. you generally wouldn't have let anybody tell you to shut up, but with kelley, things were different. she wasn't being a dick, she was just eager. kelley was always so eager with you, to the point where you couldn't bring yourself to be with anybody else.
kelley did a lot of things that made it hard for you to be with other people. the woman was far more experienced than anybody your age who seeemd to be interested. kelley wasn't afraid to show off a bit, often pulling noises and other reactions from you that you didn't know where even possible.
"kelley," you whined as kelley ground her hips against you. she had you pinned beneath her with your shirt pushed up just above your sports bra. your nipples strained against the fabric, but kelley was careful not to touch your breasts, even though both of you wanted her to.
"what's wrong?" kelley asked you teasingly. she was always so cocky with you that it made you want to smack her. you had done it once, and a part of you wondered if maybe she acted like that to get you to do it again. "don't tell me that you're already getting desperate. come on, isn't anybody taking care of you in san diego?"
"no kelley, there's nobody else," you told her. kelley definitely seemed a little surprised by that, unable to hide that reaction. you wondered who she had in jersey to take care of, but a bigger part of you knew not to ask. you wouldn't be able to stomach hearing her talk about fucking somebody else. you had nearly lost your mind whenever you overheard kelley telling alex about you in the locker room one day.
"surprising," kelley said to herself as she grabbed onto the waistband of your shorts. you lifted your hips, allowing for her to quickly remove them from your body. kelley leaned over you again, this time swiping her fingers through your folds. she could feel how wet you were, and it made her clench her own thighs together as she started touching you.
"let met touch you," you told her. kelley scrambled off of the bed to remove her clothes. you weren't sure that you had seen her move that quickly in a while. kelley grabbed your hand and set it between her legs. the two of you moved in tandem, unsure who was taking the lead as you both seemed to follow each other's movements.
kelley was grinding down against your fingers as she slipped hers inside of you. she knew that you needed a little more to cum than she did, and she was happy to oblige so that the two of you could cum together. it was sort of romantic in a way that it shouldn't hae been. you had a bad habit of romanticizing things that kelley did, even if it was just to make yourself feel less ridiculous for the years-long arrangement the two of you had been in.
"fuck, i'm close," kelley warned you. she started dropping her hips down lower, grinding even harder against your fingers than she had before. you forced yourself to focus with each stutter of kelley's hips that you felt until she stopped, mouth falling open as she held herself still.
"i'll never get tired of watching you cum." you hadn't meant to say it out loud, but kelley didn't seem to notice. she had stopped things once before when you got a little too "lovey" for her liking, but now, she seemed content to fuck you until you were screaming her name. since she had moved into her new house, kelley had been more than happy to let you get as loud as you wanted to. there was no more fear of neighbors calling in complaints, and kelley was hellbent on taking full advantage of that.
"oh yeah, that's it. cum for me, let me see those pretty little eyes of your roll back. it feels so good, doesn't it?" kelley's words were only turning you on even more. she knew exactly what she was doing to you, the mixture of her words and fingers pushing you over the edge. kelley kept her fingers inside of you, curling them repeatedly until she felt you gush around her fingers. "shit, i think you ruined my sheets."
"you knew exactly what you were doing," you told kelley. you rolled away from her, always a little embarrassed whenever she made you squirt. kelley tried to chase after you a little, but you were out of her bed before she knew what happened.
"hey, where are you going?" kelley asked as she back on her heels. "you aren't leaving, are you?"
"after my shower probably," you told her. "i'm not allowed to stay, remember?"
"it's late, i can't let you leave now. we can share the guest room," kelley said. "maybe a shower too?"
"i guess it's good to conserve water," you told her. kelley smiled as she hopped off of the bed and ran past you into the bathroom. kelley surprisingly did keep her hands to herself in the bathroom, but that was not the case when you tried to get dressed again after the shower. you kept having to swat her hands away from you, even though a part of you kind of wanted them on you.
"i'm not really tired, are you? we can get something to eat and watch a movie if you want," kelley suggested. she ran off before you could answer her, returning a few minutes later with a bowl of popcorn and a couple bottles of water. "let's watch something scary!"
"you know that i hate scary movies, kel," you whined. she didn't listen to you and put on hereditary, a movie that she knew would have you cuddling into her side with fear and probably bad dreams later in the night. "the things i do for you."
"you're the best friend a girl could wish for." kelley pressed a kiss to your temple as she put her arm around your shoulders.

Jack Of All Trades - USWNT/Reader
prompt: based off of an incorrect quote from @incorrectnwsl; Emily Sonnett: No one likes a show-off. Kelley O’Hara: Unless what they're showing off is dope as fuck. Emily: [under her breath] Fuck. That's true.
warnings: none
words: 2122
also, a note, i literally speak none of the languages that is used in this fic so i have no idea if i used the correct grammar or words as i have used a translator.
(Y/N) POV
“You’re a really good cook, you know that?” Kelley said.
I looked up at her from where I was cleaning up in the kitchen.
“You are more than welcome to take some with you,” I assured her. I motioned to where the gumbo was still sitting. “There’s more than enough there. I honestly probably made enough to feed more than my family.”
“But who taught you how to cook?” Kelley asked.
“I grew up cooking with my grandparents,” I shrugged. It wasn’t something that I had really sought out. It was just one of those things that had happened. “I loved getting to cook with them. They always cooked for our family get togethers and we were always there early. I eventually asked if I could start helping and they let me.”
“Can you get traded to Washington and come be my personal chef?” Kelley asked. I shook my head at that cause I was perfectly happy playing at Gotham. “Sonny, come convince (Y/N) that she needs to move to Washington.”
“It would be pretty awesome if you joined us,” Sonny said from her spot at the island. I rolled my eyes at that. “We could all play in Washington together. Kelley and I on the back line and you up front. Would be pretty sick.”
“You just want me there so I can cook for you.”
“I mean, yes, but like no?” Sonny said. I shook my head at that because I knew that she did want me to cook for her more if I ended up moving to play for Washington. “Like it would just be fun to have you there in Washington anyways.”
“Well, you can count it out,” I said as I placed most of the dishes I needed to clean into my sink. “I’m staying with Gotham. You two will just have to get over it and come visit me to get my cooking instead.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Who’s playing?”
I could hear the voice outside of the door ask. I didn’t pay it much mind though as I focused on hitting the right keys. Although, I wasn’t sure as to why I was so worried about messing up. I had been able to play this piece from memory for years now.
“Is there anything (Y/N) can’t do?”
My fingers slipped at that causing me to press all of my fingers down to create a horrendous crashing sound. I looked over my shoulder at my teammates as I sent them a glare.
“Will you all shut up?” I asked. A few of them made their way into the room. “It’s quite hard to focus when you have so many people talking and you’re trying to focus.”
“What were you playing?” Becky asked.
“I had made it all the way to Scarbo,” I said. I noticed her confused look at that. “It’s the third part to Gaspard de la nuit. It’s by Ravel.”
“I didn’t know you knew how to play the piano,” Christen said. I looked over at her and nodded my head. “How long have you been playing?”
“Since I was a little kid. Longer than I’ve been playing soccer,” I admitted. It was true. “I didn’t even stop my piano lessons until I left for college. This was one of the concert pieces I became good at.”
“Is it hard?”
“Is it hard?” I repeated. “You basically have to solve endless quadratic equations in your head while you play it. Is it hard. Unbelievable.”
“Can we hear it?” Becky asked.
I sighed but nodded. The rest of the group moved to take a seat around the room as well. I tuned them out as I focused on the piece.
Once I had finished the piece, many of my teammates clapped. I only sent them a smile.
“I can’t believe you played that from memory,” Sonny said.
“Like I said, I’ve been playing piano longer than I’ve been playing soccer,” I shrugged. It was just something I had developed a talent for. “I was playing this piece of nearly four years before I stopped taking lessons. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played it now.”
“But for real, is there anything you can’t do?” Kelley asked.
“Guess you’ll just have to find out.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Ooooh, here’s a good one,” Sonny grinned. She glanced between myself and Tierna. “Does (Y/N) know any other languages other than English and if so, how many?”
Tierna stared at me as I nodded. She knew this. I knew that Tierna knew this. I wrote down the number myself.
“Wait,” I said. Sonny turned to look at me. “Wait, wait wait. I have a question. Is this languages that I like know? Or does it include any languages I’m also learning?”
“That’s a good question,” Sonny said. She looked down at the paper in her hand. “I’m not sure. I guess the languages you know, but if Tierna can get the ones you’re learning then it’s an extra point.”
“That’s not fair,” Kelley whined. I rolled my eyes at her as I changed the answer. “They’re rooming together so Tierna gets to hear (Y/N) practicing.”
“Get over it, Kelley,” Tierna said as she wrote on her board. “Okay, I think I have this right.”
“Okay, on three,” Sonny said. Tierna and I nodded to each other. “One, two, three. Go!”
Tierna and I turned our boards around and I immediately looked at her board.
“Noooo,” I groaned when I saw the number. “One too high.”
“At least I got the one you’re learning right,” Tierna pointed out. She was right about that. I was currently learning Arabic. “At least I got that point.”
“Can you name the four languages that (Y/N) knows, Tierna?” Sonny asked.
This was challenging since Tierna had over guessed how many languages I knew. But I did have hope that Tierna could get it right.
“Okay, I know you know Spanish, I’ve heard you talking in Spanish a lot,” Tierna listed. I nodded at that because that was true. “You also did play in France and so I know that you did learn French. You knew you were going to go to France your senior year and so you spent the year learning French.”
“Oooooh,” I hummed. Sonny turned to me. “That is two of the four.”
“I wanna hear you speak Spanish and French now just to prove it,” Kelley said. I rolled my eyes at that because Kelley had heard me speaking both languages before.
“Ooooh, yes,” Sonny agreed. I shook my head at that. “You have to repeat what I say but in each of the four languages. Let’s start with Spanish. ‘She was between a rock and a hard place.’“
“Ella estaba entre la espada y la pared,” I repeated back to Sonny in Spanish after a moment.
“If anyone watching this video knows Spanish, tell us in the comments whether or not that was correct,” Sonny said as she turned to look at the camera before turning her attention back to me. “Now for French. ‘She won the challenge against all odds.’“
“Elle a remporté le défi contre toute attente,” I said this time in French after I thought about it.
“Again, viewers, I’m relying on you guys to tell me if (Y/N) is actually saying these things correctly,” Sonny said as she looked at the camera. “Tierna, we are still missing two languages.”
“You also know Japanese,” Tierna said. I nodded at that because it was true. “You learned it when we were teenagers so you could watch anime without subtitles.”
My jaw slacked at that. I hadn’t expected for Tierna to rat me out like that.
“Tierna, you weren’t supposed to tell anyone that,” I said as my face heated up. I turned to the camera. “You guys are cutting that out. I’m serious, the world is not gonna know that it’s actually true.”
“Did you really only learn Japanese to watch anime without subtitles?” Alex asked.
“Shut up, Alex.”
“Okay, okay,” Sonny said as she held up her hands. “Now we have to hear something in Japanese. ‘You cannot alter your fate, my prince. However, you can rise to meet it if you choose.’“
“Isn’t that a quote from Princess Mononoke?”
“Shut up and translate it, (Y/N).”
“Okay, okay,” I said as I held my hands up. “王子様、あなたの運命を変えることはできません。ただし、必要に応じて立ち上がることができます。”
“Okay, that one I really do want to make sure was quoted correctly,” Sonny said as she pointed at the camera. I rolled my eyes at that. “Do you know the fourth and final language, Tierna?”
“I’m drawing a blank,” Tierna shook her head. I groaned cause Tierna had been doing so good.
“You know this,” I said. Tierna looked over at me. “Come on, T, we were roommates in college. You know this.”
“Oh. Oh! OH! It’s, um... It’s German. It’s German!”
“Is that your final answer,” Sonny asked Tierna. Tierna nodded at that. “All right, (Y/N)?”
“It is German. I studied it in college. I can’t believe it took you that long. You used to literally hold my notecards,” I said to Tierna.
“Listen, I wasn’t concerned about learning it with you,” Tierna said. “Oh, you should say that pick-up line you would always use when we were teenagers. What was it?”
“Do you mean, ‘You know what you would look wonderful in? My arms’?” I asked Tierna. She nodded and I groaned at that. “Weißt du, worin du wunderbar aussehen würdest? Meine Arme.“
“And that actually translate to your pick up line?” Sonny asked. I nodded in confirmation.
“Dude, is there really anything you can’t do?” Kelley asked.
“Guess you’ll just have to stick around and find out.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Did you just land a toe flip?” Tobin asked causing me to turn my skateboard around to look at her. I nodded in confirmation. “Dude, I didn’t even realize you could skateboard.”
“So now you can skateboard?” Sonny asked me.
“Jealous of everything I can do yet?” I asked her. I knew that Sonny and Kelley had both been amazed at everything that they had been learning that I could do. “It’s okay to admit it, Sonny.”
Sonny only rolled her eyes at me. I turned back to look at Tobin as I kicked my skateboard into my hands.
“I haven’t been skating for long honestly,” I shrugged. It was something I hadn’t picked up when I was a kid. “I picked it up in college so I could get around Stanford easier. Plus it’s great for when it isn’t winter and I can’t go snowboarding in Colorado or when we aren’t surfing at the beach.”
“Seriously?” Kelley asked. I turned to look at her. “What are you? Just a jack of all trades?”
“No,” I shook my head. “I did only get a B in calculus.”
“I hate you,” Kelley said.
I set her a soft smile before I rode away from the group on my skateboard. I did at least make sure that I stayed close to them since we were supposed to be exploring the city together.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I grabbed the ball from the back of the net before turning to face the defenders. Kelley and Sonny had approached me while I was working on my skills and tricks once our practice had ended. They offered to defend the goal in case I wanted to get some practice against defenders in.
“You two ready to give up yet?” I asked the two.
They were both leaned over with their hands on their knees as they were both trying to catch their breath. I jogged past the two and out of the box even. I turned back to look at the two.
“Don’t worry, I can always practice these without defenders,” I assured them.
Neither of them said much as they both nodded and moved to the sideline where they each grabbed their own waters. I immediately started to move the ball. I made sure that my back was to the goal before performing a rainbow flick and then jumping up to bicycle kick the ball into the net.
“No one likes a show-off,” Sonny called out.
I knew that the two of them must have been annoyed by how many skills I had shown the two considering they had spent a lot more time with me this off season.
“Unless what they’re showing off is dope as fuck,” Kelley pointed out.
I grinned at that because I knew it meant that Kelley thought what I had been doing was cool. I was too focused on the ball in front of me as I started to dribble it again to catch what Sonny had said next.
“Fuck,” Sonny said under her breath. “That’s true.”

The Look of Love
Ali Krieger x fem!reader
“-It’s not that big of a deal.”
“Says you! It’s going to be so embarrassing for me.”
Ali turns her head and sees you and Kelley bickering back and forth. She can’t help but notice the cute pout on your face as you playfully stump your foot and huff at the defender.
“Now what are you two arguing about?” Alex asks, giving the both of you a pointed look.
“Our friend here has been invited to her brother’s wedding, but she doesn’t have a plus one,” Kelley informs while resting her hands on your shoulders, making you roll your eyes and head over to your locker.
“It’s not how it sounds. My family constantly pesters me about how my siblings are either engaged, married, or even having a kid. I don’t even have a girlfriend! I just don’t want to deal with people asking me where my plus one is on my brother’s special day.” You sigh, shaking your head and pulling your sweaty training jersey over your head.
You only have two siblings; one brother and one sister. Your sister has been married for around two years and is now pregnant with her second child, and now your brother is getting married. A little over a year ago, you were dating a girl you thought would be your endgame until you caught her kissing some other girl at a coffee shop. At the time when invitations were sent, you expected to have someone attending with you, but now you don’t.
“So why don’t you bring a fake date?” Christen shrugs as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world, so when she turns around, she notices everyone staring at her. “What?”
“That’s genius! Y/n/n you’ve got to do it.”
Everyone begins to agree with Kelley and Christen while you stay quiet with a hesitant look on your face. Ali also remains silent, observing your reactions to see what your thoughts are about it.
“Guys I- I don’t even know where I would begin to look for someone willing to do something like this, yet learn everything about them within two days.”
“Then one of us can help you!” Kelley says, expanding her arms, gesturing around the whole locker room. “C’mon, it will be a win-win. No family bothering you about your love life and your brother gets his day.”
Thinking of all the pros and cons, you eventually agree to the plan.
“Well, who’s gonna be my girlfriend for a day?” You ask, sighing at how stupid it sounds.
“I can’t because I have plans with Sam in Australia-“
“-me neither, I have to be out of state but the end of tomorrow.”
A bunch of the girls start spitting out excuses and their plans for the week. You just roll your eyes and continue packing your kit bag up.
“I’ll do it.”
Your head immediately snaps up along with everyone else’s. Silence overcomes the room, but you continue to stare at the person who volunteered.
“Wha- wait, seriously?” You stammer with your eyes slightly wider than usual.
“I don’t see why not. I don’t have any plans and I can help you out.” Ali shrugs nonchalantly while the rest of the room remains quiet, silently watching the interaction between you two.
“Oh my god, thank you thank you thank you!” Ali laughs when you bring her into a bear hug and bounce up and down before pulling away slightly, causing your moves to slow.
“It is an open bar, right?” She looks down at you with a teasing smile. You smack her shoulder and begin to pull away before she pulls you back in, laughing at your reaction.
Christen and Alex give each other a knowing look and go back to changing.
—
“Okay, let’s go over this one last time.” You say, scared that if people start asking questions about your relationship you’re not gonna have the same answers. Your rushing mind is stopped by Ali reaching out and grabbing your hand from across the table.
“Y/n/n, it’s going to be okay. We’ve known each other for years, so all we have to do is say how our first date was and maybe a few other details.” She starts gesturing her breathing by raising her hand up and down and pursing her lips for you to follow her lead.
Once your heart rate goes down to its normal level, you both head into the separate rooms of your apartment to get dressed. The wedding starts in about 2 hours, so you’re both just on time. When you step out of the room and into the living room, you notice Ali staring at you with her eyes widened and mouth slightly slacked.
“What? Does it look bad? Oh god, I cannot deal with the comments of-“ You ramble on while twisting and turning to see if there is something wrong with the dress.
“N-no, no, you just look…stunning.” The tall girl words breathlessly, admiring your loose lilac-colored dress that matches amazingly with your light face of makeup.
You blush and take in her outfit. She stands in a cream-colored suit that compliments your dress perfectly. “You also look great.”
After a minute of just looking at each other, Ali clears her throat and says, “We better get going if we don’t want to be late. M’lady?”
She holds out her arm with an opening between her forearm and bicep for you to slot your own in. You giggle, accepting her gesture while walking to her car. Being the gentlewoman she is, she opens the passenger door for you and offers you a hand so you don’t trip in your heels.
“Here we go.” You mumble before Ali starts driving.
—
You and Ali walk into the venue hand in hand while scanning over the crowded room.
“Darling!” Looking up you see your mother walking over to you with open arms.
“Hey, mom.” You accept her hug before introducing her to your girlfriend. Ali shakes her hand and makes a small conversation as if it’s the easiest thing on the planet. You begin to space out but a laugh and a hand on your lower back interrupt your thoughts.
“You okay, my love?” The girl next to you asks once her laughter dies down. The name gives you butterflies but you choose to ignore it, knowing that all of this is fake.
The reason you got into your past relationship was because of Ali. You have basically followed her to each and every one of her clubs your whole career. You met in 2013 when you both were signed to Washington Spirit, and you have been attached to each other’s hips since that day. You quickly found yourself blushing and swooning at everything the brunette did after a few months of knowing her and you carried those feelings all these years. The only people who know are Alex and Christen.
Instead of confronting your love for the defender, you tried everything to try and vanish them. Eventually, you got into a relationship with your ex when you finally started to feel something for someone else, but that ended up in the dumper.
Now you’re afraid that all your feelings are going to flood and resurface. Sure you never stopped loving her, but it didn’t feel as strong. The fact she is your fake girlfriend for the day is going to make it 10x harder to ignore the constant butterflies in your stomach and the blood rushing to your face with every word she speaks to you.
“Yeah, I’m alright. Don’t worry baby, you might get wrinkles.” You tease while wiping your thumb over her cheeks, causing the talker girl to squat your hand away with a laugh.
“I am not that old.”
You have a 6-year age gap, but you both never think of it because you’re so connected in ways that most people who are the same age are.
“Keep telling yourself that, granny.”
Your mother watches the interaction between you two with a soft smile before excusing herself to go talk to other members of your family. Your mom has always been supportive of you and always stood by your side through the tough times, so seeing you look so happy makes her heart squeeze.
—
After the vows and rings are exchanged, everyone heads over to the room where the reception is going to be held. Ali’s hand never leaving the small of your back, guides you to the room with music blaring out from it.
Most people go out onto the dance floor and sway to the music while you both find a table to sit at. She pulls out the chair for you to take a seat and places a kiss on your cheek, making your face turn all red.
“I’m gonna go get us some drinks, I’ll be right back.”
Once she’s out of sight, your mom pops a squat across from you and gives you an unreadable expression.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” You ask warily, scared of what might come out of her mouth.
“She’s not your girlfriend.”
You’re taken aback by the sudden admission and start to stumble over your words. “Wha- what do you mean?”
“Oh please, you can’t lie without me figuring it out. I have mom instincts.” She states matter of factly while sipping on her champagne.
You take a look around to see if anyone is near you and lean in so she can hear you clearly without having to shout. “Okay, we’re not dating but no one can know.”
“Why did you even lie in the first place?”
“Because I can’t deal with Aunt Mary or Uncle John constantly asking when I’m going to settle down and why I haven’t yet. At least not on my brother’s and sister-in-law’s night.” You sigh, looking down at your fingers as you fiddle with the tablecloth.
Your mother reaches across the table and grasps your hand before going on to say, “I know that you love her. She’s the girl you were so hung over on before you got with she devil, isn’t she?”
You snort at the nickname your siblings and mother have given your ex. They all thought she was no good from the beginning and knew you could do better, and so did Ali but she never let you know that.
“Yeah, she is.” You nod and look over, noticing the girl you’re speaking about approaching you. Your mom also sees so she quickly says something that leaves you stunned.
“From the way she looks at you, she feels the same, even when you’re not looking she can’t keep her eyes off of you. She looks at you like you’ve hung all the stars in the sky. She loves you, sweetie.” With that, she stands up and greets Ali with a smile before heading over to the newlyweds. You continue looking shocked not noticing your plus-one setting down your glasses.
“You still there?” Ali waves her hand in front of your face, grinning once your eyes meet hers.
“Sorry, did you say something before?” You ask with a soft smile to which the older girl responds with a nod.
“I was wondering if you’d like to accompany me with a dance?” She holds out her hand, hoping you’ll take it and you do.
“I would love to.”
Right when your feet hit the dance floor, a slow song turns on making you feel as sheepish as if you were at your first middle school dance. Without hesitation, Ali intertwines one of her hands with yours and rests her other on your waist. You place your other hand right where her neck meets her shoulder before you both begin to sway. The side of your forehead presses against her cheek, keeping you close together.
Subconsciously, you inhale her perfume and sigh at the smell, and what you don’t know is Ali is doing the same thing to your hair, smelling your coconut shampoo. When you open your eyes, you look over her shoulder and notice your mom smiling at the two of you. She nods her head, signaling for you to finally confess your true feelings.
You let out a shaky breath before pulling away slightly so you can see Ali’s face. She smiles at you with her eyes remaining on yours. The crinkles on the side of her eyes make you swoon and lose your thoughts.
“Do you want to know what my mom said to me while you went to get us drinks?”
“What?” She cocks her head to the side slightly, showing you she’s pretty curious as to what was said.
“Well, first, she told me she knows that we’re not dating, and second, she insists that you love me.” You whisper the last part, hoping she doesn’t catch it but she does.
She chuckles and looks up at the ceiling before returning her gaze to you and says, “Is it that obvious?”
Your head snaps up at her statement and you look at her with a puzzled look.
“You…love me?” You ask, pointing at yourself to make sure she is indeed talking about you.
“It’s impossible not to. That doesn’t scare you, does it?” Now it’s her turn to look sheepish and scared while waiting for your response.
“No, it actually makes me extremely happy. I have been in love with you since 2013.” Your confession makes the defender smile widely which you return, both of you in your own little circle. Her eyes switch between each of yours and down to your lips.
“Can I kiss you?”
“I will hit you if you don’t.”
Her fingers curl under your chin and pull you in, allowing your lips to finally touch. It feels like the movies where the girl kisses her one true love and her foot pops up in the middle of it. The butterflies in your stomach swarm like never before. Once you both pull back, your smiles never leave your faces. The comfortable silence between you two is interrupted by the newlyweds and your mother clapping and wooing.
You laugh into Ali’s neck while she chuckles and hugs your smaller form. She pecks your forehead and asks, “You wanna know what took me so long to get the drinks?”
“What?”
“The new bride and groom had a stern talk with me. They also knew about us not being a couple. Your family must be spies.”
Looking over her shoulder, you see the three wiggling their eyebrows and giving you a thumbs up, making you roll your eyes.
“Thanks to them, I can do this whenever I want now.”
You smash your lips against hers and hug your arms around her neck. Ali dips you down, causing you to squeal against her lips and her smile into it. She lifts you back up and hugs you.
“Can I take you on a date tomorrow?”
“You better.”

Collecting Strays - Kelley O’Hara X Reader (platonic)
Summary: Miss Kelley is known for making friends with younger players and taking them under her wing. When she notices you, a rookie at Gotham, are having a bad day, she does what she can to make you feel better, adding you to her collection of younger players she looks out for.
Warnings: slight angst
It had been less than a month since you signed with Gotham. Just a few short weeks ago your mom had helped you move in to your new apartment and get set up in this new city. At first everything was fine. You seemed to fit in well with the team making a few friends with your fellow teammates.
One in particular was Kelley O’Hara. One your very first day with Gotham, Kelley took you under her wing, showing you around, giving you tips during training, and just being a supportive teammate.
Normally, you were excited for practice but today you just couldn’t muster up the energy to even try to seem excited to be there. First, your coffee had spilt in your car leaving you un-caffeinated. Then, you couldn’t stop shivering as you walked outside to the training pitch. The wind was blowing in your face making you even colder despite the training jacket you had on. The sky seemed to get greyer and greyer as training went on. You also weren’t playing as well as you could.
At the end of practice you took a deep breath, not wanting your teammates to see you cry. Showering as quickly as possible and throwing on clothes, you quickly made your way out of the changing room trying to avoid conversation.
Today was just a hard day, your teammates didn’t need to know that.
You were halfway out the building when a hand on your shoulder stopped you.
“Hey kid,” Kelley said turning you to face her, “what’s up? You’ve been off all day.”
You try to shrug off Kelley’s hand, not bothering to take your eyes off the floor.
“Nothing’s up, I’m just having an off day,” you lie.
“That’s not going to work with me kid,” Kelley crossed her arms in front of her.
Still not looking up you just shrug in response.
“Come on, your gonna come over to my place,” Kelley demanded pushing you towards the door.
“Kelley, really I’m fine I just want to go back to my apartment,” you try and pull away from her.
“Spending an hour at my apartment wont kill you,” Kelley said practically dragging you to her car.
That’s how you ended up on Kelley’s couch, hot chocolate in hand watching some random show.
“So, you want to talk about it yet?” Kelley ask, once you finish your drink setting down.
“No, not really,” you say, turning your attention back to the tv.
Kelley lets out an exaggerated sigh, causing you to roll your eyes.
“I told you early, I’m fine.” Looking over Kelly arches an eyebrow, causing you to sigh this time. “Okay, it’s my mom’s birthday and I miss home and I miss my dog and I really wish I could be there celebrating with everyone and I love it here but…”
Kelley cuts you off “woah, take a deep breath,” pulling you into a hug you burry your face in her neck wrapping your arms around the older woman.
You hadn’t realized you were crying but now it felt like you couldn’t stop.
“I miss home,” you whimper in Kelley’s embrace.
“Shh, I know,” she says rubbing your back. “I know.”
You don’t know how long you to stay like that. With you practically in Kelley’s lap letting it all out as she runs her fingers through your hair and rubs your back, holding you until you calm down.
Once she notices your sobs had stopped Kelley pulls back slightly, wiping your tears away.
“I know its hard,” she says her thumb stroking your cheek. “I wont lie to you and tell you it gets easier. In this profession, you’re always going to miss something. Birthdays, holidays, weddings, but you get so much more and make so many amazing memories and travel to new places, it’ll make it worth it. I’m sorry you miss home but just know this team is here for you. I’m here for you.”
Fresh tears make its way down your cheeks and you whip at them with your shirt sleeve. “Thank you Kelley. Not just for today but for being there for me even when I first joined the team.”
“Of course” Kelley smiled pulling you in for a hug. “Now how about we get some ice cream, ice creams guaranteed to make anyone happy.”
You laugh for probably the first time today, “okay.”
It had been a few hours since your breakdown to Kelley but you were still in her apartment. A knock at the door startled you both. Kelley rolled her eyes when a familiar voice called out. You could tell that a few people were outside, namely Rose and Sonnett, but you couldn’t tell who else.
At first you had thought Kelley had invited them over but when someone knocked Kelley rolled her eyes mumbling how some people just wouldn’t leave her alone as she went to open the door. You knew her annoyance was fake though when Jenna walked through the door Jenna launched herself at Kelley. Kelley picked her up spinning the younger girl around. Rose and Sonnett followed behind walking into Kelley's apartment. You smiled in greeting to your teammates.
Sonnett and Rose made their way into the living room, saying quick hellos as Kelley sat Jenna back down on her feet.
“You guys ate ice cream without us,” Sonnett frowned when she noticed the two empty bowls on the coffee table.
“Ice creams for invited guest only,” Kelley said following Jenna and Rose into the living room.
“I’m hurt Miss Kelley,” Sonnett placed a hand over her heart pretending to be offended.
“What are you guys watching,” Rose said sitting down between you and Sonnett.
“Just some trash reality tv show,” You said causing Kelley to scoff.
“First, they barge in then you insult the tv shows I watch.”
“We should watch a movie,” Jenna interrupts as she squeezes herself in between Sonnett and Rose.
“I agree,” Sonnett picks up the remote, looking for a movie to watch.
“You guys know this is my apartment, right?” Kelley is still standing, her hands on her hips looking at all of you.
“Please Miss Kelley? That show was boring,” you stick out your bottom lip, giving Kelley the best puppy-dog eyes you can.
“Sonnett, look what you’ve taught her,” Kelley gasp causing the room to laugh. “My sweet innocent baby calling me Miss Kelley.”
Kelley pinches your cheeks, swatting at her hands trying to get her to stop as the others laugh at you two. “I’m not a baby,” you pout.
“You’re one of the youngest on the team, of course you’re a baby,” Kelley says finally sitting down next to you pulling you into her side.
You cross your arms sinking back into the couch.
“Does that mean I’ve been upgraded Miss Kelley?” Jenna ask leaning forward to look at Kelley.
“Ugh not you too,” Kelley groans covering her face with her hands.
“Shh guys, Sonnett picked a movie,” Rose said kicking her feet up on the coffee table.
The movie started and everyone was quite watching as the opening credits came on the screen.
“Wait!” Jenna stood up from the couch, walking to the kitchen. “We need popcorn.”
After the movie, Sonnett, Rose, and Jenna started getting their things together.
“Thanks Miss Kelley for letting us crash your place,” Jenna said pressing a kiss to Kelley’s cheeks.
“Yeah yeah,” Kelley said taking empty bowls to the kitchen.
A chorus of byes followed as the other women made their way out of Kelley’s apartment, leaving just you and her. You grabbed the remaining bowls from the coffee table, taking them to the kitchen.
“You didn’t have to do that,” Kelley said taking them from your hands.
“It’s okay, it’s the least I can do since you let me stay here all day,” you shrugged.
“If I remember correctly, I had to drag you to my car earlier,” you roll your eyes at Kelley’s response.
You lean against the counter as Kelley loads her dishwasher, “about that, how am I getting to my apartment?”
“Why don’t you just stay her tonight and I’ll drive us to training in the morning?”
You try to come up with an excuse but you don’t have one and you don’t really want to be alone right now any ways.
Nodding, your wrap your arms around yourself, “okay, thanks.”
“Yeah its no problem,” Kelley says giving you a soft smile.
Now that a few hours had gone by you realized you weren’t sad anymore, or as sad. Kelley had succeeded in taking your mind off things. You didn’t realize how desperately you had needed the company. If you hadn’t come over to Kelley’s you would have probably gone back to your apartment after practice and spent all day crying in your bed.
“No Kelley, I mean thank you, for today,” you admit. “I really needed this.”
“I know kid,” Kelley says pulling you in for a hug.

high
I stumbled onto the practice field, my legs feeling strangely unsteady. My teammates were already engaged in their warm-up drills, but I found myself swaying, unable to focus. Everything around me seemed to shimmer and twist, as if I were seeing the world through a funhouse mirror.
The grass beneath my cleats felt impossibly soft, like I was treading on a plush carpet. The sky above was a breathtaking swirl of colors, vibrant and surreal. Even the soccer ball I held seemed to morph and ripple in my hands, making it difficult to keep my grip.
Tobin, noticing my bewildered actions, approached me, her brow furrowed in concern, her voice laced with confusion. "Y/N, are you okay?"
I tried to answer, but all that escaped my lips were giggles, uncontrollable and strange. Laughter bubbled up from deep within me, and I couldn't stop myself from finding the simplest things uproarious.
"I'm great, Tobin!" I managed to say between fits of giggles. "Everything is just... so... funny!"
My teammates, in the midst of their drills, exchanged bewildered glances as well. Coach Vlatko, his patience wearing thin, joined the group, eyeing me with a mixture of puzzlement and irritation.
As the laughter faded, I was left with a haunting realization. The innocent-looking brownie I had grabbed from the kitchen before practice held something far more potent than I had ever expected. I’m going to kill Mal for bringing them back from UCLA. She probably did it to share with some people from the team but come on.
The euphoria began to recede, and a cold shiver of panic gripped me. It started as a gnawing doubt that intensified with each passing moment. My family had a history of drug addiction, and I had always been cautious about avoiding any substances that could lead me down that dark path. Panic rushed in like a tidal wave, tightening my chest and making my head spin.
“Oh my God. I am high. Tobin. I am high. I -I can’t be-e. Tobin, this is bad. I don’t do drugs,” I spiral in my thoughts and ramble.
Tobin noticed my distress quickly, her concern deepening. She leaned in close, her voice a hushed whisper. "Y/N, we can't let Coach Vlatko know what's going on. It could jeopardize your spot on the team. Just hold it together for a few minutes. Take deep breaths."
I nodded, my eyes wide with fear. I couldn't afford to let this mistake cost me my place on the USWNT.
Tobin quickly thought on her feet, turning to Kelley O'Hara, "Kelley, Y/N isn't feeling well. I think it's best if we say she's sick and needs to sit out. Can you help her back to the locker room and make sure she's okay?"
Kelley, always a team player, nodded without hesitation. "Of course, Tobin. I'll take care of her."
As Kelley led me away from the field, the amused expressions and hushed laughter of my teammates lingered in the background. My attempt at humor had spiraled into a bizarre mishap, but Tobin's quick thinking had shielded me from the prying eyes of Coach Vlatko, at least for now.
Kelley guided me into the locker room, her expression a mix of concern and curiosity. She closed the door behind us, and I sank onto one of the benches, my head still spinning from the unexpected high.
"Y/N," Kelley said gently, "are you alright?"
I tried to focus on her face, but it felt like her features were swimming in front of me. "I messed up, Kelley. I didn't know that brownie was... you know...I’m high… I’m panicking… I don’t want to be high."
She nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "It happens to the best of us. Let's get you settled and comfortable."
Kelley helped me lie down on one of the benches, arranging my jacket as a makeshift blanket. The locker room lights seemed too bright, and the sounds of the outside world echoed in my ears as if they were amplified a thousand times.
As I lay there, Kelley sat down next to me, her presence a comforting anchor in my disorienting reality. She started talking softly, sharing stories from our time on the team, hoping to distract me from the effects of the brownie.
With each passing moment, my racing thoughts began to slow down, and my panic ebbed away. Kelley's soothing words and calm demeanor worked their magic. I started to feel more at ease, more in control.
Eventually, Kelley noticed that my eyelids were growing heavy. "Y/N, it might be a good idea for you to get some rest. Sleep can help you come down from this."
I nodded, my energy sapped from the whirlwind of emotions and sensations. Kelley adjusted the bench to make it more comfortable before pushing the makeshift pillow onto her lap so my head laid on her thigh.
"Close your eyes," she whispered, "and try to relax. I'll stay here with you until you fall asleep."
I followed her instructions, my eyelids drooping. The locker room's harsh lights softened into a warm, comforting glow. Kelley's presence beside me became a lifeline, and I slowly drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep.
As I slept, my dreams were filled with the surreal images and sensations of the day, but they were no longer frightening or disorienting. With Kelley by my side, I felt safe, and I knew that when I woke up, I would be better.
... ... ... ... ... ... ...
I stirred from my slumber, feeling groggy and disoriented. The locker room's familiar surroundings slowly came into focus, and I realized that I must have dozed off. The last thing I remembered was Kelley's comforting presence and her soothing words.
As I tried to sit up, I found my limbs heavy and uncooperative. I let out a soft groan, prompting Kelley, who had been sitting beside me, to turn her attention towards me.
"Hey there," Kelley said with a warm smile. "How are you feeling?"
I blinked at her, still feeling a bit dazed. "Better, I think. Thanks for being here, Kelley."
She reached out and gently ran her fingers through my hair, her touch incredibly soothing. "You're welcome, Y/N. You had quite the adventure today."
I chuckled weakly, remembering the unexpected turn of events. "Tell me about it."
Kelley helped me sit up slowly, her strong arms supporting me. "We need to get you to the bus, Y/N. The team is heading back, and I don't want you to be left behind."
I nodded, feeling a bit unsteady on my feet. Kelley scooped me up in her arms effortlessly, cradling me against her chest. I couldn't help but snuggle into her, feeling safe and protected.
As she carried me towards the bus, I nestled my head against her shoulder, breathing in her familiar scent. Her heartbeat, strong and steady, reverberated through her chest, lulling me into a sense of security.
Kelley settled me into one of the seats, wrapping a warm blanket around me.
"Get some more rest," she whispered, her voice a gentle murmur. "I'll be right here."
I closed my eyes once more, the rhythmic hum of the bus's engine and the gentle sway of the ride lulling me back into slumber. Kelley's presence beside me was like a warm cocoon, and as I drifted off, I couldn't help but smile.
As I snuggled into Kelley's arms on the bus, my groggy state preventing me from full awareness, I could sense the curious glances and quiet chuckles from my teammates. The locker room had been an intimate setting, and now, the bus ride was proving to be equally revealing.
Alex Morgan, sitting a few rows ahead, turned to look at us with an amused grin. "Well, well, well, looks like someone had an eventful morning."
Kelley shot her a playful glare, her voice hushed but teasing. "Mind your own business, Alex."
A chorus of laughter erupted from my teammates, the camaraderie evident in their good-natured ribbing. I couldn't help but blush, my drowsy state making me more susceptible to their teasing.
Christen Press, sitting across the aisle, leaned over to give me a sympathetic smile. "Don't worry, Y/N. We've all had our moments."
Julie Ertz, sitting next to Christen, nodded in agreement. "Yeah, and at least you have Kelley here to take care of you."
I glanced up at Kelley, who had been patiently enduring the banter, and offered her a grateful smile. She returned it with a warm one of her own, her eyes filled with genuine affection.

Round of 16 | Kelley O'Hara x Reader
summary: kelley misses the penalty
warnings: none
word count: 1.1k
a/n: need an outlet after that disaster of a match and KO's one of the very first footy players i looked up to and i cannot handle that she missed that pk so here's something 🥹
♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦
Ever since Kelley was subbed on, I was begging it would not get to a point where she has to kick the penalty. But here she was now, counting her steps for her run-up. I was whispering words of encouragement, knowing that Kelley doesn’t like it when the crowd was loud.
Closing my eyes, I was begging and praying that she makes her penalty. With one last prayer, I opened my eyes, seeing Kelley swing her right foot back; the ball making contact with her foot. It looked like it would go in, but with the curve of her kick, it hit the post instead. I can’t believe it. Kelley missed her penalty.
There were a lot of things on my bingo card, but Kelley missing her penalty was not one of them. She was calm and collected before she took the kick, but the physics behind it simply beat her. I looked at her sister beside me, tears welling my eyes because I knew that if the Swede makes her kick, it would all be over. I felt sick to my stomach.
Erin placed a hand over my shoulders, comforting me, knowing I never want to see my fiancee crying, especially because of major tournaments. Kelley always played her heart out, even when she is on the bench; she always supports her teammates, sending motivation their way. She has been doubting herself if she would make the World Cup for the past couple of months, and I knew that the missed penalty kick would only make it worse. She’s the strongest person I knew, but she’s just a person too.
As the VAR check ended and the referee blew her whistle, indicating Sweden’s win, I knew Kelley would blame herself. She was walking around her teammates, comforting them. She was holding back her tears because, for her, she was a veteran, someone that the kids could count on. She didn't want to show them weakness. I saw a few tears escape her eyes, but she was quick to wipe them away. As she gathered with her teammates for one final huddle this World Cup, I cannot help but think about the aftermath of this game.
“You think she’ll be fine?” I asked Erin beside me. She looked at me and sent me a reassuring smile.
“Of course, she would. You’re by her side.” I smiled back at Erin and thought of ways how to make Kelley feel better after this tournament.
After their huddle, Kelley and some of her teammates immediately went to the stands looking for their family. Erin and their parents nudged me and encouraged me to be the one who goes down the front of the stands. Servando and Charlie were beside me, Charlie already reaching out for her mom who was already in front of her. I sent a little smile towards Alex hoping it sends a little comfort her way. I turned my eyes back into the field and saw Kelley approaching. I immediately opened my arms and reached out to her because I knew she always found comfort in those hugs. No words were said for a couple of minutes as she continued hugging me.
“I’m sorry.” I heard her say a little sob escaping her throat. My heart felt like it was crushed into a thousand pieces hearing her sob like that.
“It’s not your fault baby. You did your best. I know.”
“But I could’ve done more. I could’ve buried that penalty. I wasn’t good enough. I’m sorry.”
Kelley's words hung heavy in the air as I held her tightly, providing a comforting presence amidst the turmoil of her emotions. I gently lifted her chin, making her look into my eyes, filled with sincerity and love.
"Kels, listen," I said softly, my voice carrying the weight of my genuine conviction. "You are an incredible athlete, a remarkable person, and a source of inspiration for so many, including me. One missed penalty doesn't define you, doesn't define your career, and it certainly doesn't diminish the passion and effort you've poured into this sport."
She sniffled, her eyes still glistening with tears, but she was now looking at me, absorbing my words.
"You've faced challenges before, and you've always risen above them," I continued. "This setback doesn't erase all the victories you've contributed to this team, and the memories you've created on the field. Remember the love you have for this sport, the love that has driven you to be the remarkable player you are today."
Kelley's grip on me tightened, and she nodded slowly as if beginning to find solace in my words.
"I know you're disappointed," I said, my voice tender. "But you're not alone in this journey. Your teammates, your family, and I—we're all here to support you, no matter what. And I have no doubt that you will come back even stronger from this."
“But what if this was my last major tournament?” She asked, fully aware that her clock was ticking with the sport she loved.
“That’s not the Kelley I know. The Kelley I know would tell me that she would give everything to be there at the next one. But if this was your last, you still have the NWSL season. I’d like to see you give them hell before hanging your boots up.” I told her with a small smile, trying to inject a bit of humor into the moment.
Kelley managed a faint smile in return, her tears gradually subsiding. "You always know how to make me smile, even in the toughest times," she said, her voice still quivering slightly.
"You're not alone in this, babe," I reassured her. "Your journey is shared by everyone who loves and admires you. Remember that your strength goes beyond what happens on the field. You've touched so many lives and inspired countless people."
As the stadium began to empty out and the players started heading back to the locker room, Kelley and I stayed embraced, finding comfort in each other's presence. The path ahead might be uncertain, but one thing was clear: Kelley was more than just a player on the field. She was a role model, a leader, and above all, she was loved.
In the days that followed, Kelley gradually found her footing again. She leaned on her support system, her teammates, her family, and me. She channeled her disappointment into determination, using it as fuel to push herself even harder in her training. The NWSL became a new focus, a chance for her to continue showcasing her skills and passion for the game.
And as time passed, Kelley's perspective began to shift. She realized that her worth wasn't solely determined by one missed penalty. She saw the bigger picture—the impact she had on and off the field, the resilience she had shown throughout her career, and the legacy she was building for herself.

First thanksgiving (Kelley O'Hara x Reader)
I don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but I wanted to write something about it. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates it!
I don't know if this is any good and it's barely edited, but I hope you enjoy :)
Combination of these two requests:
I don't celebrate Thanksgiving so I think it would be cute if the player (I don't know who, can be anyone) teach R about the tradition and the foods and maybe R try to cook a family recipe and everything just been cozy and cute!
and
r x Christen or Kelley meeting c or k's family for the first time at thanksgiving, because r isn't a soccer player.
Words: 3.2k
Kelley headed for me as soon as she got home, slotting herself against me and the back of the couch. I had been lying down watching tv, but turned toward her to wrap my arms around her, pecking her lips. "Hi love. How was your day?"
"Long, but could have been worse. I missed you today. How did your interview go?"
I held Kelley closer, kissing her forehead, "I missed you too Kel. I think it went pretty well. They said they'll get back to me after thanksgiving. I'm still thinking about saving a bit more money and starting my own business. I already have a good chunk away."
"If you do, I'll support you every step of the way. I think you'll make a very sexy boss."
I rolled my eyes, pinching Kelley side making her squeal before leaving a lingering kiss against her lips, "Of course you do."
"Hey um talking about thanksgiving. I hope it's okay, but I told my parents about us and they invited you to thanksgiving. So um would you want to come?"
We had been together for quite a while, but our relationship had started out a bit complicated and I was gone the majority of the time so Kelley had avoided telling her family until things were a bit more stable. "Why would that not be okay? If you want me there then of course I will come."
"I know you don't know anything about it or celebrate it, but I would like you to come."
"Then I'll be there."
---
There were ingredients and stuff scattered all over the kitchen, it was a mess so was I, but I was determined to make the best apple pie and pecan pie I could. Despite never making either or ever trying a pecan pie. Kelley said her family loved them so in an anxious, overthinking moment, I had decided to attempt it in hopes of impressing them. Kelley walked in, just stopping and staring at me for a few seconds.
"What are you doing baby?"
"Um well you said your family likes these pies and I'm a half decent baker so I thought I would try. Maybe impress them. I um I'm going to make some small ones so you can try and tell me if I should just throw them out or not."
Kelley wiped some flour off my cheek before pecking my lips, "A bit nervous are we? Babe my parents will love you regardless of if you baked them a pie or not."
"Two pies actually."
"You're really determined aren't you?" I nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed by what a mess I was over this. "Why don't I help you? I've made them with my parents enough to know how they like it."
That help turned out to be Kelley sitting on the counter, talking about random things and constantly distracting me by pulling me in for make out sessions. The only real help she provided was telling me that her family liked more cinnamon in the apple pie and smaller pieces of pecan. If I actually thought about it, I would have realised she was doing it to stop me overthinking so I could actually enjoy the baking process. Of course it worked. Kelley always had a way of making me calm down, of stopping or at least reducing any overthinking or panicking thoughts. Given my time in the military, it wasn't an uncommon occurrence.
With the pies in the oven and the timer set, I decided it was time to clean up. As soon as my hands entered the water, Kelley's hands covered my face. Though, her hands happened to be covered in flour. "Oh you little shit." I spun around, bubbles in hand, smearing them over her face. Kelley squealed, trying to run away, but my arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her into me before she could. I rubbed my face against hers transferring some of the flour.
Kelley turned around in my arms, giggling her ass off, "You look ridiculous."
"Love, you don't look much better."
"We could make it worse." Kelley suggested with a smirk, letting me push her against the counter, lips connecting. Kelley ended up on the counter, me standing between her legs as we lazily made out. Since I got back we had definitely been making up for all the lost time. Pretty much every spare minute was spent either cuddling or kissing in someway. When the timer went off, I pulled away quickly, there was no way I was letting these pies burn. Kelley tried to pull me back in with a whine, but I gently pushed her away, "Nope. Get off, I can't burn the pies."
"Rude."
"You love it."
Later that night after the pies were baked and everything was cleaned up, Kelley and I were relaxing in the bath, her back against my front as I ran my fingers up her arms. Kelley had reassured me multiple times that my pies were pretty much perfect and that her family would love them. I only just believed her, but was trying to push my anxiety away.
"So what exactly is thanksgiving? I know you eat a bunch of food with family."
"It's pretty much that. Thanksgiving is a time where you spend time with family, eat good food and be thankful to the things you have in your life. That's the short version anyway and all you really need to know."
"I'm thankful for you everyday Kel."
---
My leg had been non-stop bouncing since we left the house. I had met her teammates a few times, but this was different. This was the first time I had ever met any of my partners parents and ultimately Kelley's parents were the most important. Kelley was the only person I had ever imagined spending the rest of my life with, or actually wanted to spend my life with. For that reason I needed Kelley's parents to like me. I knew she loved me, but she also valued her family's opinions over pretty much anything.
A hand on my knee stopped the bouncing and the lingering kiss momentarily settled the nerves. "Baby, it'll be okay. Just be yourself and my parents will love you because I love you. Stop thinking too much into it and try to enjoy yourself. When you're ready we can go in okay?"
There was no point in pushing it out any longer so I took a few deep breaths and got out of the car before I freaked myself out more. Kelley laced her fingers with mine, squeezing gently as she knocked on the door. Who I assumed was her mum answered the door, pulling Kelley into a hug before inviting us inside where her dad was waiting.
"Mum, dad this is Y/n. Y/n my mum Karen and my dad Dan."
I held my hand out for her dad who took it with a slightly harder than normal grip, "It's nice to meet you sir." Before moving to kiss her mums cheek, "You look lovely ma'am, it's lovely to meet you."
Karen waved me off, pulling me into a hug instead, "You make us feel old with that sir and ma'am stuff darling, you can call us Karen and Dan."
"I made you some pies."
"Oh yes, Kelley told us you did. Thank you, they look wonderful."
I found myself alone with Dan as Kelley and her mum were doing something in the kitchen. Honestly, it was not a position I wanted to be in especially after only just meeting her parents. The anxiousness was bubbling up again, but I did my best to use my training and hide it. Being anxious in front of Kelley was one thing, being anxious in front of her parents was not ideal.
Dan sat across from me on the couch, stern look upon his face. I shifted so I was sitting up straighter, legs crossed. "So Y/n, Kelley hasn't told us much about you. What do you do?"
"Um nothing at the moment," I admitted, quickly realising by the look on her dads face that it probably wasn't the right thing to say. I quickly spoke up again, "I was a medic in the army, my contract just ended and I chose not to reenlist. After 16 years, the majority of that away, I decided to take some time to just spend with Kelley and my family. I've started job hunting now."
"I could have guessed that one by the way you greeted us. You'll fit right in, I'm ex-navy and Kelley's brother is currently in the Navy. Are you going to do something healthcare related?"
"She did mention that. When I was younger I wanted to do something healthcare related weather it was a nurse or a doctor, but I joined the Army at 18 instead. There were some things that I experienced that definitely changed my desire to pursue it. I'm currently interviewing for security positions and looking into starting my own company a bit down the road. My dad used to have his own security company and I quite enjoyed hanging around and learning from him when I was a teenager."
He nodded along in understanding before his stoic, stern look reappeared, "How long have you been dating my daughter? What are your intentions with her?"
How long we had been together was a bit complicated. We had been talking to each other and seeing each other when I was on leave for about 2 years before we started officially dating. We were practically a couple during that time, just without the commitment. I didn't want Kelley to have to wait for me every time I went away and couldn't give her what she needed. My past relationship had ended with my ex cheating on me because of that so I didn't want to go through that again.
Kelley later revealed that she had never so much as looked at another person in that time and she had always considered us together. Then she had forced my fears out of me and convinced me to take a chance on her. It was the best decision I had ever made. I wasn't exactly sure what to say, I didn't know what Kelley had told them. Knowing Kelley though she probably included out non-committed dating. "Four years. My intentions are simple, I just want to love and support her for as long as she'll let me. I want to continue to make her laugh over stupid stuff, cheer the loudest at all her games and anything else she chooses to do. I hope to-"
"Dad stop interrogating her," Kelley spoke up, sitting on the arm of the couch, arm wrapping around my shoulders.
"It's okay love. I can handle it."
Thankfully the interrogation stopped, instead moving into easier questions about my life and relationship with Kelley. The longer we talked the more relaxed I started to feel. They didn't seem to hate me which was a plus. The only thing left was to meet her siblings, which was still causing anxiety, but Kelley was either playing with the baby hairs on the back of my neck or with my fingers. It was enough to keep me in the moment, it always was. I slipped out to use the bathroom only to find my way into the kitchen where Kelley's mum was working on dinner.
"Do you need any help Karen? I've never made most of this stuff so I can chop stuff up or something if you like."
"You can peel and cut those potatoes then slice the brussels sprouts in half if you like."
"Sure. What sort of food are you making?"
Karen started moving around the kitchen showing me all the different food she was making. There were a few things I had never tried like green bean casserole and stuffing. There was also a few things that I didn't like, one of them being the main component which was turkey. I would eat it anyway out of respect for Karen. Afterall, she was spending hours preparing food for us. After cutting up anything needed, I decided to stay and watch how things were made. There may come a day where Kelley and I hosted thanksgiving so I wanted some idea of what to do. Karen didn't seem to mind as she happily talked through what she was doing, giving me instructions to stir something or hand her things.
"Mum, have you seen Y- nevermind she's there. What are you two up to?"
My arm wrapped around Kelley's shoulder, lips meeting her temple, "Your mums teaching me things."
"She's a pretty good assistant this one. I don't want to overstep, but I've been meaning to ask why you're not with your family for thanksgiving?"
"No, no not at all. We don't actually celebrate it. We moved here when I was younger and never picked it up, but it's important to Kelley so I'm trying to learn about it."
Kelley smiled up at me, squeezing my hand that still hung over her shoulder, "Erin and Jerry are here. Mum, can I steal your assistant away?"
Karen shooed us out of the room, but I pulled us to a stop just outside, out of the view of anyone. The nerves had hit me once again. Her parents seemed to like me or at least not hate me, now I had to make a good impression on her siblings. It was a lot of pressure because I knew how much Kelley's family meant to her. Kelley looked at me for a second before pulling me in for a tight hug, fingers running through my hair. "You're okay, this will be okay. I'll be right by your side. We can go when you're ready."
---
I found myself cuddled up under a blanket with Kelley outside as she caught up with her siblings. After the initial nervousness of meeting them, we had gotten to talking pretty much instantly. They had asked the same sort of questions as Kelley's parents, just less intense. Thankfully, they seemed to not hate me as well.
They were doing most of the talking, while I just listened and fiddled with Kelley's fingers. Seeing how happy Kelley was with her family, made me happier than I could express. Her smile was one of my favourite things about her and even after four years, her laugh still made the butterflies in my stomach erupt.
Just before my mind drifted back to marrying Kelley, her sister spoke up. "About time our girl brought someone home to meet us."
"What's wrong with her?"
I wasn't sure what to make of that, if it was an insult or not so I kept quiet for now. Kelley on the other hand, didn't. "Jerry! What the hell?"
He put his hands up in surrender, "Sorry, I didn't mean that seriously, it's just you hid her from us for four years, there's got to be something wrong, extra toe? Hidden tail?"
"You're a dork. No, Y/n doesn't have an extra toe or a tail. Maybe don't tell mum and dad this, but things were a bit complicated to start with, I mean we were good, just complicated. Then she was gone on and off for the past two years and things just didn't line up."
"You did long distance?"
Kelley squeezed my hand, cuddling further into me. This time I decided to answer. "We did. I was deployed more than I would have liked, but we made it work."
"Now she's back and she's not allowed to leave me again."
"Wouldn't dream of it."
---
When Kelley was distracted with her siblings, I approached both her mum and dad, "Hey, can I talk to you guys in private for a minute please?"
They lead me to the outside seating area, sitting down across from me as I took a breath to calm me down. "Dan, you asked me earlier what my intentions were with Kelley and I never got to fully answer because she came in. Now I'm not asking permission because I'm not sure she would want that and ultimately it is Kelley's decision. In saying that I did want to let you know that I am planning on proposing to her. Kelley's it for me, there's no one else in this world that I want to spend my life with."
They looked at me for a few seconds before Karen smiled, standing up to hug me, "Good. She loves you so much Y/n. I've never seen my daughter look at anyone like she does you. She's happy, keep her that way and we won't have a problem."
Dan approached me, same stoic look from earlier before holding his hand out to shake, "We appreciate you letting us know. You continue to treat my daughter how she deserves and we'll welcome you to the family with open arms. Do you have a plan?"
"The only thing I want is for her to be happy. I don't have a plan yet, I've had the ring for a while, had it on me constantly since a week or so after I got back. I'm just waiting for the right time I guess. She deserves the best."
Karen smiled, "Maybe you'll find the right time while you guys are here, surrounded by family."
"You'd be okay with that? Me hijacking thanksgiving to propose to Kelley."
"Of course we would. It's a special moment in her life and we want to be apart of that if you want us to be."
"I thinks that's perfect. Do you do that thing where you go around saying what you're thankful for?"
"Not everyone does, but we do."
"Then I have an idea. We should get back though because I can see her looking at us through the window."
Kelley wrapped her arm around my waist to cuddle into my side. If you ever lost Kelley, she would likely be cuddled against me in someway. Every chance she got, she was attached to me. While I used to hate touch, I loved hers. "What were you guys up to? Were they interrogating you again?"
"Your parents were showing me around and we were talking. I wouldn't call it an interrogation so don't worry."
---
We sat around the dinner table filled with food and my nerves were starting to skyrocket again. It was a different type of nerves though, they were more a mixture of excitement, fear and anticipation compared to the anxiety and fear I felt earlier. I was about to ask Kelley to marry me. It was never my intention to do it the first time I was meeting her parents, but they had suggested it. I knew Kelley would love them being there. Everyone went around saying what they were thankful for before Karen turned to me with a knowing look.
"Y/n, your turn."
My fingers laced with Kelley's which rest on my knee to stop the bouncing, "I'm thankful for a lot in my life, but I'm most thankful for the women who makes me complete. I'm thankful you stayed by my side over the years, even though I know it hasn't been easy. I'm thankful for all the times you make me laugh, the times you've wiped my tears and held me close. There's no one I'm more thankful for than you Kelley. I'm thankful that I get to love you and be loved by you. I love you Kelley, more than I ever thought possible. I will be forever thankful if you would say yes to this question," I stood up, dropping down to one knee and presenting the ring as tears shone in her eyes, "Kelley O'Hara, will you marry me?"
Kelley laughed, pulling me into a tight hug, "Yes, yes of course I will marry you."
"Did you guys know about this?"
Karen smiled, hugging Kelley, "She may have told us earlier. Welcome to the family Y/n."

Sicktember 2023: 24 (USWNT)
"Did you just sneeze?"
“It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no it’s super baby,” Kelley cheers, holding you parallel to the ground as she ‘flies’ your small body around the living room.
Your giggles are contagious and they soon attract your Mama’s attention. Alex peeks into the room, seeing the chaos that has occurred.
“What are you doing to my baby?” Alex asks, a hand on her hip and her eyebrow jokingly raised.
“Your baby?!” Kelley asks astoundedly, “Your baby?!? If I remember correctly, you didn’t change a diaper for the first year. This is my baby- 100%”
“I gave up my body and my career to carry and feed our daughter, the least you could do was change a few diapers.”
Kelley holds you out straight so you’re looking at her, “what do you think, huh? Are you Mommy and Mama’s baby?”
You babble indistinctly back at her as the two women stare adoringly at you. Because they had been watching you so closely, your moms were able to watch as you took a deep breath and your eyes closed. Unfortunately, neither of your moms had a chance to react before your nostrils flared and you sneezed wetly. Twice. Right in your Mommy’s face.
“Did you just sneeze?” She asks you, her voice low as to not show any emotion. You don’t respond because, well, you’re a baby and you don’t have the words to respond even if you did know what to call that funny feeling and loud sound you just made.
Kelley turns to Alex, “did she just sneeze? On me?”
Alex can’t speak, instead nodding her head once. Kelley simply hands you over to your Mama, mumbling something about not wanting the baby anymore before leaving the room.
—-
Two days later, you and your Mommy were once again in the living room. This time, though, there was much less happy chatter and giggling.
You were dressed only in a diaper, the fever overheating you as the copious amounts of fluid that they were feeding you quickly worked their way through your small body. Kelley was sitting on the sofa and your small body was resting lamely on her stomach and chest. She had one hand under your bum, keeping you in a comfortable position, while her other hand was fiddling with her phone as she canceled plans due to the sick baby she currently had resting on her.
She can feel you take a slightly larger inhale than usual, and she looks down. She sees your eyes begin fluttering shut and she can feel your breath hitching under her palm. Quickly, Kelley drops her phone onto the cushion next to her and pulls a tissue out of the tissue box that she had taken to carrying around. She cups your nose and mouth gently in the tissue, waiting for the inevitable.
You pitch forward into her hand, sneezing a snotty, congested sounding sneeze. Kelley knows by this point not to take the tissue away, as your moms had learned the hard way that you never sneeze just once.
You sneeze again, sighing. But your Mommy can still feel your nose wiggling before you sputter out another sneeze, this one louder than the previous two.
“Bless you, bless you, bless you, you sneezy monster,” she says, planting a kiss on the top of your head after each ‘bless you.” She wipes your nose clean, dropping the tissue into the quickly growing pile and begins running her now free hand through your hair.
“Everyone alright?” Alex shouts from the kitchen, appearing in the doorway.
“We’re fine, right bug?” Mommy asks you, “cause you’re so smart and you know not to sneeze on Mommy anymore.”
With impeccable timing, you sneeze directly on Kelley. The woman stands up, holding you at an arm's length as she walks over to Alex.
“Your turn,” she simply says, pushing you gently into Mama’s arms.

Anymore - So'Hara x Reader
Summary: R is the lead singer of a punk band and performs a song that's half apology-half regret. Request was So'Hara x Famous!Reader from an Anon
A/N: I don't know if punk bands count as famous but I know for a fact that my music taste is different than most people in the woso world. This is based off the Menzingers' song 'I Dont Wanna Be An Asshole Anymore', they're one of my favorite bands but they aren't very mainstream.
It isn’t unusual for you to find yourself standing on a stage in front of a large crowd on a Thursday night.
You’re the lead singer of a punk band, it’s literally what you get paid to do.
What is unusual is for you to be spending so much time searching the crowd looking for people, your girlfriends specifically.
You guys are in the midst of a pretty big argument and admittedly you haven’t spoken to them in a couple of days (yes it was that bad) but they had promised to be here tonight. Plus, you sent them a text with the address this morning and had gotten a thumbs up in response, so you were pretty hopeful.
At least you were until now because your set is about to start and they’re nowhere to be seen.
Taking a deep breath, you shove that to the side and launch into your first song, strumming your guitar hard and pouring your soul into the words.
It isn’t until you're finishing the fifth song of your set that you see them standing in the back of the small room.
Letting the final chords ring out, you push your sweaty hair out of your face and begin to speak into the microphone.
“Thank you, guys, so fucking much,” you say, smiling widely, “We know how hard it is to get to shows in the middle of the week when you have work the next day, so we really appreciate each and every one of you for being here.”
You stop for a moment, letting the crowd cheer while you try to catch your breath.
Laughing a bit at their enthusiasm you continue, “Now, obviously, we have a lot of songs left to play for you tonight but I figured right now would be a good time to debut an unreleased one, here live in DC.”
You try to keep speaking but are cut off by the crowd’s cheers.
“Bit of backstory, that last song Obituaries was written at the start of my relationship when I was afraid of well, fucking things up,” you explain when they calm down. “This next one is so new that there isn’t even a demo version of it yet because it was written a few days ago when I fucked this up. This is ‘I Don’t Wanna be an Asshole Anymore.’”
Taking a step away from the mic, you turn your back to the crowd, using the moment to silently check in with your bandmates before you start playing again.
When you turn back around, you manage to make it through a majority of the first verse before you look at them again.
“I’m always making a mess, always stumbling out the door but,” you sing, staring directly at them, “I don’t want to be an asshole anymore, woah, baby, baby, I’ll be good to you.”
There seems to be something magnetic about singing an apology to the women you wrote it for and although you find it hard to do, you manage to stop staring at them long enough to sing most of the rest of the song. They really only need to hear the last few lines anyway.
When you get to that part of the song, you stop playing guitar putting both hands on the mic in an attempt to ground yourself.
“You’re the only lovers that I’ll ever miss, ever been hopelessly in love with,” you sing leaning forward slightly, looking at them, “Look at this tangle of thorns, I don’t wanna be an asshole anymore.”
Between both the sweat and the light assaulting your eyes, it’s hard to make out exactly what the looks on their faces could mean but it’s impossible to miss the slight smiles on their faces.
Later that night, after the concert has ended and as you and your bandmates load your gear back into your cars, you hear a very familiar pair of voices calling your name.
Turning around you’re greeted by the sight of both Kelley and Emily walking toward you at a slightly hurried pace.
“Uh, hey,” you say once they’re standing in front of you.
It’s slightly awkward but the three of you haven’t really spoken in days and you don’t know what to say.
The tension is thick and you don’t know how to break it but luckily you don’t have to.
“So,” Emily says, trying to step into your personal bubble, completely undeterred when you continue moving backwards until you collide with your car. “You wrote us a song?”
“I mean technically, I’ve written you loads of songs, you just heard a new one tonight.”
“Whatever, Y/N,” she says leaning into you, “It’s just as sweet as it was the second time.”
Out of the corner of your eye, you can see Kelley laughing at the inside joke as she comes to stand next to you.
“I think this one might fall into the same category as the first song though,” Kelley says, slipping her hand into yours.
You look down at your joined hands then at where Emily has her body pressed against yours then back again, a confused look plastered on your face before you speak.
“I have no idea what’s going on right now,” you tell them.
“About what?”
“Are we not in the middle of a fight,” you say, brows still scrunched together.
Kelley laughs again and so does Emily as she lets her hands move to grab you by the waist.
“Y/N/N, you’re an idiot,” Emily says with a slight squeeze, “It was barely an argument, much less a fight.”
“You called me an asshole and told me to get my shit together.”
“But we didn’t tell you to leave,” Kelley says softly, “We told you to get it together because it was the fourth time in three weeks you came home with a bruise on your face.”
Honestly, you don’t know how you’re supposed to respond to that, you do have a tendency to blow things out of proportion, especially when you feel like you’re being attacked, so you respond the only way you can.
“Oh.”
It feels as though everything from the last couple of days is becoming much clearer and the thing that’s become the most obvious is that you need to stop going to the bar with your drummer Dylan, who is a professional instigator.
“Oh, indeed.”
It’s then that you’re interrupted by none other than the instigator himself trying to get your attention.
“You coming out with us,” he shouts across the parking lot when you look at him.
With the help of your new found realization and the prospect of being able to sleep in your own bed instead of on his couch tonight, it’s the easiest thing in the world for you to shake your head at him before redirecting your attention to the women next to you, both of whom looked shocked.
“You’re not going for post-show drinks,” Emily asks.
“I think I need to spend less time with Dylan,” you say, “He’s always getting me in trouble. Plus, I haven’t really seen you guys in a couple days.”
“You get yourself in enough trouble without his help,” Kelley says with an eye roll, “But we wouldn’t be opposed to you hanging out with us instead.” She pauses for a moment, leaning up to kiss the side of your jaw. “We’ll see you at home.”
With that she pulls her and away from yours, taking one of Emily’s instead and begins dragging her towards the car they came in.
“Wait,” you call after them, “Can’t I get a real kiss?”
“Maybe when you get home,” she calls back.

First Christmas - Kellex/Reader
I really did probably take at least a whole year to get to this and I'm so sorry. However, I'm really excited about this one. When I was clearing out my inbox, this was one I made sure to keep because I really did like the idea.
prompt: sorry i have no idea if your requests are opened but i was wondering if you could continue your kellex x reader fic and make one where r and kellex experience their first christmas together. maybe add some cute moments in and fluff between all three? idk it’s up to you!
warnings: none
words: 1199
(Y/N) POV
"(Y/N), wake up!"
It wasn't exactly the best way to be woken up especially considering I wasn't even in school at the moment. I groaned as I looked over to my clock.
"Go away," I grumbled as I shoved my face back into my pillow. "It isn't even 11 am yet."
"Nope, you're getting up."
I felt Kelley pulling at my blanket and I immediately let go of my pillow to grab a hole of it. The two of us struggled for a moment before Kelley eventually won due to the fact that I was still practically asleep.
"Get up," Kelley said as she shook my shoulder. I only groaned again. "We're going to open up presents and then have breakfast as a family."
"Why can't we do this at a reasonable time?" I asked.
"This is a reasonable time."
"6 am is not a reasonable time, Mama. I don't even have homework to do."
I got not response from Kelley which made me smile as I started to doze off again.
"Nope! You called me Mama, so that means you have to get up and join us downstairs because it's Christmas and you're apart of this family."
I hadn't even realized that I had in fact called Kelley Mama. It was true to be fair. I had even admitted as much to my therapist, but I hadn't exactly expressed the feelings to Kelley or Alex yet.
"Then I vote that we change this tradition to start after 11 in the morning."
There was a knock on my door but I didn't have to look at it to know who was there.
"Alex, (Y/N) isn't getting up."
"And I thought I was supposed to be the kid in this family," I mumbled into my pillow
I ignored the two as they continued to talk to each other. That was until Alex sat next to me on my bed.
"You know if you get up, you can go back to sleep after breakfast."
"Hmmm, or I could just sleep until 11."
"She's not gonna stop until you get up," Alex softly said to me. I ignored her as I only shoved my face farther into my pillow. "Don't say I didn't warn you."
I felt Alex move away from me and off of my bed. I didn't even bother to question it, but I should have known better by now.
One second I was happily falling back to sleep with both of my parents leaving me to sleep.
And then the next, I had a bowl of cold water splashing on my head.
I couldn't jump up fast enough from that.
"DUDE!"
I immediately took to shaking my head to try to get the water off of my head, which in hindsight was a bad idea because I just made a bigger mess.
"What was that for!"
"It's Christmas!"
I glared at my shorter parent. I knew I couldn't entirely blame them. They still often forgot that I didn't have the same childhood as they did.
"I don't care! Christmas for me does NOT mean the same thing that it does for you!" I snapped. It was entirely fair of me to snap at them for them just wanting to include me in their holiday traditions, but in the moment I didn't care. "For me, it's just another day! It's just a day to be reminded that I'm not like other people my age! I'm not supposed to get things on Christmas! It's always just been another day for me!"
I shoved past both of the older women as I headed for my bathroom. Neither of them made a move to follow me as I slammed the bathroom door behind me and locked it.
I didn't even bother moving toward the shower as I slid down against the door. I kept my head between my knees as I took a few deep breaths.
It had been uncalled for. It truly had. Kelley and Alex were just trying to make sure that they included me. It wasn't fair to them that I had blown up on them for doing exactly what they should have.
I sighed before I got up and grabbed a towel. I used it to dry my head off before I brushed my teeth. I was at least going to make sure I had time to gain the courage before I accepted my consequences.
I was just about to put my hand on the door knob when the door echoed through the door.
"(Y/N)? I'm sorry," Kelley said from the other side. I froze as I placed my hand on the door instead. "I shouldn't be trying to push you so hard. I know that you aren't used to this. I know that, but I just want you to feel like you're apart of this family because you are. It's something I have to work on, I know. It's just... I want you to call me Mama and I want you to call Alex Mom. I just want to make sure you know you're apart of this family."
I sighed as I took it in and rested my forehead against the door. They were both so good to me. I really didn't deserve it. I wasn't sure how long I stood there processing what exactly she had said, but I knew it must have been a couple of minutes at least.
"I'm gonna be downstairs with Alex. We'll wait on you until you are ready to join us."
I quickly opened the door before darting forward to wrap her into a hug.
"I'm sorry. I'm really, really sorry."
"Hey, (Y/N), you have nothing to be sorry about."
"But I hurt your feelings. I know I did."
"No. No, you didn't. I promise, (Y/N)," Kelley said as I refused to let her go. "I swear, you didn't. You were right. We keep trying to throw you into things that you aren't ready for. You can take all the time you need. We will even change our traditions because you are want is important here."
"I want to be apart of the traditions."
"Hey, and you will be," Kelley assured me as she pulled back so that she could look at my face. "You always will be. I promise. Alex and I aren't going anywhere. And if we have to change traditions, then we'll change traditions for you. Just keep in mind that we're still getting used to this as well."
"I love you," I admitted. It was my first time saying it. "I love you both. Please just don't leave me."
"We won't. I promise, (Y/N). We won't leave you."
I pulled her back into a hug. It meant so much just to hear that.
"Tell you what, we'll start talking with you about traditions so that we can all have fun with them," Kelley said. "How about that."
"Could we... Could we keep the early morning Christmas tradition?" I asked hesitantly. "Maybe not the dumping water on my head, but I think I'd like to have the early morning Christmas next year."
"We can do whatever you want. I promise."
"Thanks... Mama."

You can be a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare II Ali Krieger x Mewis!Reader
masterlist I word count: 2599
The heat of the day was gone, and it started to cool down in New Jersey. The breeze made you shiver, so did the words of Ali Krieger with whom you had a love affair for the past weeks: “Y/n, you’re 13 years younger than me and I just go through a separation from my wife.” “Ali.”, you tried to soothe her doubting face. Sadness lay in the eyes of the defender while she was looking at you: “I can’t do that.” “But you kissed me first and you said that it meant something to you.”, the hurt in your voice was undeniable.
Regret was shimmering through her words: “I shouldn’t have done that. You’re way too young for me.” “I’m not that young, Ali.”, you interjected. Eyerolling Ali countered: “You’re 26.” “Yes, which makes me an adult.”, you protested. Softly the older woman replied:” I know you’re.”
This didn’t change the fact that you were 13 years younger than her, this much you both knew. The defender made very clear that it was time to end the thing whatever you two had going on before anyone could get too hurt. So, you decided:” I should go.”
Meanwhile Ali’s daughter Sloane was standing right behind you and interrupted your talk, with big eyes she pleaded:” Don’t go, you promised me a good night story.” “No, she’s right. She should go.”, the dark-haired woman declared. The toddler looked disappointed at her mother: ”But-“ “It’s okay, Sloane. Maybe, we’ll do that another time in the future.” , you reassuringly hugged the little girl.
Audibly Ali cleared her throat: “Goodbye, I hope I’ll see you soon.” “We play in the same team, so I guess we can’t avoid seeing each other.”, you reminded her. Nervously the older woman went through her hair with one hand: “Yes, sure.” “Bye.”, you waved at them. “Goodbye.”
Were those tears shimmering in her beautiful brown eyes? But weren’t you the one who was allowed to grieve the possibility of what you two could have become when she ended it? Confused you left the home of the woman who broke your heart.
A worried Sloane looked up to her mother:” Why do you look so sad, momma?” “I’m not. I just have a hard decision to make. But it’s bad time for you now.”, Ali tried to shrug it off. “No.”, the toddler whined. “Yes, come on.”, the defender’s lips curled up into a tired smile as she knew all too well that her daughter would be soon asleep by the time her small head hit her pillow.
“Ali! Lynn! Doesn’t my little sister look super hot in this outfit?“, Kristie Mewis yelled a week later at Gothams next NWSL game. It has become kind of a ritual that the players took pictures of their outfits before the games for social media. You stood in front of the camera, rolling your eyes at your older sister; “Kristie, stop it.“ “Just admit that I picked it out for you!“, she protested with a laugh. You objected, frowning; “I picked it out. You just lend me the clothes!“ “I picked it out!“, Kristie insisted again. You could easily forget that she was the older one. “Whoever did it, I’m sure every queer woman would be happy to unpack her.“, Lynn interrupted your discussion with a wink.
Ali who stood next to her, waiting for her turn to be photographed, said flatly; “What’s there to unpack? She’s barely wearing anything.“ You could feel your cheeks heat with anger. Before you could answer, Kristie looked at the defender; “Don’t be mean, Ali. It’s a cute fit.“ She gave you a proud smile while Ali shrugged; “It’s true, Kristie.“ Your sister deliberately ignored her negative comments and walked up to you; “Come here. Let’s take some sister photos together to send to Sammy.“ “Sammy will pout forever about the fact that she wasn’t included in this picture.“, you reminded Kristie and immediately smiled at the thought of your other sister who currently played in Kansas. Kristie grinned into the camera; “Let’s be honest, she probably would have ruined it.“ “Still, you know her.“ “Yes, I do.“, she rolled her eyes.
You had taken a quick selfie with Kristie too and texted it to Sam. Now you held up your phone in Kristies face; “Told you. She’s already pouting in her text messages. We need to send her a good snack for when she’s doing her next podcast episode to make up for it.“ “Trust me, she’ll survive.“, Kristie replied with a dismissive wave of her hand. Lynn nodded in agreement; “Yeah, she’s already busy with other things. Sammy will forget about that photo by tomorrow.“ As her podcast partner, Lynn always knew what Sam was up to. “Yeah, you two are probably right.“, you shrugged but sent your sister in Kansas a heart emoji anyway. “We are. Believe us.“, Kristie winked.
After the match Ali was standing next to your locker, arms crossed in front of her chest: “Where do you think you’re going with this outfit?” “I’m going out.”, you shrugged with your shoulders. Although her reaction fuelled your anger. She did not have a right to react jealous. Curiously she asked: “Out? With whom?” “Oh, just with Kristie and some other teammates.”, you replied nonchalantly.
Bitterly the defender answered:” Go and have fun then.” Innocently smiling Kristie intervened: “Isn’t Ashlyn looking after your kids tonight? Come on, Ali. You should join us.” “I don’t think Ali is interested in partying with us.”, you told her. Much to both of your surprise the captain of the team replied:” You know what? Why not? I got nothing else to do.” “Great, this is going to be so much fun.”, your older sister chirmed. A small smile lightened up Alis whole face: “I’m sure it will be.” “We’ll see about that.”, you whispered frustrated.
The club Kristie chose was new and trendy and settled in Manhattan. The music was good, and you and your teammates enjoyed the night out. A stranger came up to you: “Hi, can I get you a drink?” She looked pretty and you could not help but to nod along: “Sure.” “No.”, Ali interrupted the talk between the two of you. “No? I think I can decide that on my own.”, you huffed. Determined the defender shook her head: “No, you can’t.” With these words she took your hand and walked off with you.
Furiously you glanced at her: “Seriously, what the fuck Ali?” “What? It’s impolite. You’re out with us.”, she pointed out. Annoyed with her actions you scoffed: We both know that’s not why you did it.” “Maybe not. But that doesn’t matter. The others don’t have to know.”, Ali admitted. “Don’t worry, Kristie doesn’t know with whom I spent my summer.”, you disclosed. The mentioning of your older sister made the dark-haired woman smile in amusement:” “Kristie doesn’t seem to be bothered anyway. She’s on the phone with her girlfriend.” “And where are Kelley and Lynn?”, you couldn’t help but to ask. While Ali took you on to the dance floor without asking you: “At the bar.” “Oh.”
“Come on. You should have some fun.”, she smirked. As you were starting to move to the music you wanted to know from her:” Are you enjoying your parenting free night?” “I do.”, with that said you could feel her hands placed around your hips. You tried to keep your tone light: “That’s great.” “But I do miss them.”, the older woman answered. A sigh escaped your lips:“I miss them too to be honest.” “They miss you too.” Surprised you looked at her:”Really?” “Sure. You’ve met them quite a few times.”, Ali replied while her fingers touched your naked skin which made you shiver. Secretly you hated that your body still reacted to her like this.
Apparently, she had also noticed your reaction because she quickly pulled her hand away. “Yes, that’s true.“, you replied, trying to ignore what had just happened. Ali furrowed her eyebrows, looking at you intently; “Are you okay?“ “Yes, I’m fine… I think I’ll go home now.“, you explained, turning away from her. “Already?“ “Yes. Good night, Ali.“
You took your bag and were about to leave when you suddenly felt her hand close around your wrist. “Let me bring you home. Your sister obviously isn’t going to.“, Ali decided rather than offered. You followed her gaze to Kristie, who stood off to the side with her phone pressed to her ear and giggled about something her girlfriend must have said. “We should not interrupt her when she’s talking to her girlfriend.“, you had to admit. Ali finally let go of your hand; “I’m sure the others will make sure that she gets home safe. But now let me take you home.“
Your brain was constantly screaming at you while you accepted the offer and followed Ali to her car. The car ride was unusually silent but you were half expecting the awkwardness already. When the car stopped in front of your apartment building, you realized that Ali had gotten out of the car to open the passenger door for you. You gave her a tight smile; “Thanks for bringing me home.“ “You’re welcome.“, she answered politely. While pulling the keys out of your bag, you noticed that Ali hasn’t moved.
With a sigh, you turned to her, finally asking you the question that was bothering you the whole night; “Ali… did you already find someone new?“ The defender seemed taken aback by the question; “No. I’m not looking for someone right now.“ “I see.“ “It’s all a bit much right now. I thought I’d focus on myself and my children. What about you? Are you seeing anyone?“, Ali continued. You shook your head, your lips pressed together tightly; “No. I think I’ll focus on my career right now.“ “That sounds… reasonable.“ “I know.“ You were just about to turn the keys and unlock the door when Ali spoke up again; “You know I’m sorry, right? I didn’t think when we started this. Or else I wouldn’t have put us both through this mess.“ “So you regret us?“, you asked, your voice a pitch higher than you wanted it to be. “That’s not what I said.“, Ali retorted defensively.
You heaved a long sigh; “I guess it’ll be easier when the season ends.“ “Yes. I think it will be. That gives us more space.“, the defender agreed. “Right and we’ll never have to see each other again.“ Ali rolled her eyes at your remark; “You know, you can be a bit dramatic sometimes?“ “To be fair, I learned from the best. Kristie and you.“, you laughed involuntarily. “I’m not dramatic! Your sister is!“, Ali protested with a wide grin. “Yeah, she’s a little bit more drama.“
For a second, everything felt like the break-up never happened but then Alis’ face turned serious again; “See. I’m sure you’ll be alright. You’re an amazing soccer player, smart and pretty, and you have your two sister who always got your back. You don’t need me.“
“Ali, you know that’s not true. I do need you.”, you disagreed. Her expression was unchanged as she answered: “No, you don’t.” “I still don’t care about the age gap. I thought you should know that. Good night, Ali.”, you smiled disappointed. “I do know that. Good night.”
Yet she still did not move so you asked the defender:” Ali, why are you still standing here?” “What? Oh, sorry. I was just thinking.”, Ali blushed. “Thinking about what?” “Mistakes.”, the older woman truthfully replied. Sharply you shot back: “Well, I think you made very clear that we were a mistake.” “No. But apparently think that if you keep accusing me of saying that.”, she shook her head. You could feel your cheek turn red:” Sorry.” “ I don’t think this was a mistake. What was a mistake was the fact that I didn’t think about it before starting something with you. That would have saved us the trouble.”, Ali summed it up. Slowly you nodded:”Right.”
“But now I’m wondering if it’s a mistake to let you go.”, the defender cautiously looked into your eyes. The words left your mouth before you could think more deeply about them: “Don’t let go.” This said she closed the gap between you and pressed her lips onto yours while you replied to her kiss with an equally passion, running your hands through her dark long hair. All the emotions finally making their way out as you embraced each other. Needless to say, Ali did not leave that night.
After your now girlfriends last game where was a big party being held in her honour. All her friends were there to celebrate her long soccer career. Proudly you kissed her which made Kristie gasp out loud: “Oh. My. God!”
“Why are you yelling, Kristie?”, your other sister Sam Mewis asked amused because she was well versed in the older sibling’s talent to make everything super dramatic as if you were part of a reality show. “Our little sister is making out with Ali!”, the blonde shouted into her ear. Unimpressed the taller woman looked at her:” And?” “And seriously?!”, Kristie repeated playfully shocked.
That made Sam laugh out loud: “Yes?” “Why aren’t you freaking out about this?”, the smaller midfielder wanted to know. “Should I?” “Well, they look happy, right?”, the older sister observed as she glanced at Ali and you. Giggling the middle sibling remarked: “I don’t know. They’re about to eat each other up.”
Kristie grimaced in disgust; “Ew, gross.“ “As if you and were any better with your girlfriend.“, Megan Rapinoe interrupted the sisters, giving Kristie a smirk. Sam gasped with widened eyes, happy about the mutual understanding between her and Megan; “Don’t even get me started! You can’t even have a normal conversation without them making out!“
“Let’s try it with this new couple, shall we?“, Megans wife asked, a challenging look on their face. But before she could her plan to action, Ali took her lips off of yours for a second and yelled; “We’re busy here!“ “Get a room!“, Kristie answered. You eyed your sister with scepticism; “Coming from you?“ “Don’t talk to me in this tone, young lady.“, Kristie warned, playfully raising her finger at you. You cringed; “You’re my older sister, not my mum.“
Ali got up, taking your hand in hers; “Let’s leave, love.“ “Please.“, you answered, looking at your sisters with feigned disdain. “Bye, guys.“, Ali waved while gently leading you outside. Kristie watched you with her mouth open; “You can’t just abduct my sister.“ “This is consensual.“, you clarified with a laugh. “This better be!“, Kristie yelled after you. You smiled at her and Sam, waving them goodbye; “See you tomorrow.“ “Or not.“, Kristie added. Sam snorted; “Probably not.“ “Girls!“, you called. But Ali nudged you with her shoulder, giving you a wink; “They are not wrong though.“ “Go.“, Sam rolled her eyes, gesturing for you to finally leave. Sue smiled as she watched you two; “Seems like we don’t have to worry about Ali being bored after her retirement from soccer.“ “I was never worried about that.“, Megan replied, amused.
Kristie in the meantime had taken a step away from the group and was holding her phone to her ear. “Kristie, what are you doing?“, Sam asked. “Uhm, telling mum the news?“, her sister answered, looking at her like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Sam shook her head at her; “Oh my god, Kristie. That’s exactly why I’m mums favorite.“

Ali Krieger x fem!reader
The game is intense. Both teams have been playing hard, leading it to be 0-0 after the full ninety minutes, causing it to head into overtime. It’s 105 minutes in and Gotham has taken control of the ball. Kristie passes it downfield and it continues to move forward as Portland’s defenders scramble to guard the ball, but because they’re a little behind, it leaves a space allowing Katie to shoot the ball and hit the back of the bet.
The whole stadium goes wild, including you standing up with Sloane on your hip, cheering with the crowd. She looks around cluelessly with noise-canceling headphones, making her look even more adorable than usual. Kyle alongside you has Ocean in his arms while pumping his fist up and down at the new lead.
Only 14 minutes later, they are advancing to the finals. Ali looks up into the stands with a bright smile, seeing her family witness her journey through her career, but she is quickly pulled aside by her teammates who continue to chant they’re not finished yet.
After a few more minutes, you and Kyle make your way onto the turf with the kids to meet up with the captain. Kelley, Kristie, and Lynn all talk with her but once she sees you approaching, she excuses herself and jogs over.
“Mama won.” Sloane slurs with a cute little grin.
“Yes, she did!” You exclaim as you continue to bounce the little girl on your hip, something she has always enjoyed for whatever reason.
Ali laughs and takes Ocean out of Kyle’s arms without her smile breaking once. “I’m so happy you’re all here. I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
“We’d do anything for you, sis. Right, Y/n/n?” He wraps his arm around Ali’s shoulder before nudging you to answer. You divert your attention back to the girl and notice she’s already staring back at you.
“Of course. Wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”
You all stand around and talk for a bit with a few of her teammates. The Portland breeze picks up, making it feel much chillier than it actually is. You’re only covered by a thin zip-up, not thinking the temperature would drop mid-game and freeze you half to death. Your shivering is noticed by Ali, so she shrugs off her coat and rests it on your shoulders before taking Sloane from your hands into her other arm.
“Ali, you’ll be cold now. I’ll be fine-“
“You’re clearly cold and you need to warm up. I’m hot anyways.” She shrugs you off and talks to both of the kids in her arms. You’re lucky that the bitter weather makes your cheeks rosy or she definitely would’ve noticed the deep blush rushing to your cheeks at the gesture.
You have been friends with Ali since forever. Your feelings for her have grown stronger and stronger as time moved on to the point where you’re now sure you’re in love with her. The only problem is that she split from Ashlyn months ago and you were her shoulder to cry on through her heartbreak. To you, it’s still too soon to even think about making a move, especially when she has more important things to think about like her retirement and her kids.
Sloane and Ocean have become important to you as well, treating them as one of your own. The little girl is a goofball and the little boy is a bit of a stinker at times, but nothing makes you love them any less. Ali sees the way you interact with them which makes her melt to the floor, knowing that you’re perfect in any way.
Long before the divorce, she knew it was over with Ashlyn for a while. They both argued constantly and Ali didn’t want the kids to grow up in a toxic environment. When Ashlyn cheated, she weirdly felt relieved. Maybe it was because it made her feel less guilty for growing feelings for you. Her best friend.
When the split happened, she ran to you. Even if she knew it was going to happen, it was still devastating. No matter what caused the divorce, she’ll still always care for her ex-wife, and knowing everything is changing with her career, love, and family, it breaks her. You’re there for it all. Her ups and downs, highs and lows. You assure her she’s stuck with you forever.
So here you are now, in Portland watching the captain survive and advance to the finals. Kyle drove you and the kids since Ali had to arrive a little earlier to get ready, but she insists her brother heads back to his hotel and she’ll take everyone back with her.
“Let me go wash off and gather my things then I’ll meet you here. Are you okay with watching them for a couple of minutes?” The taller girl asks, gesturing to the two toddlers in your arms.
You wave her off the best you can with her busied hand and say, “I’m sure I can handle these angels. Now hurry! I want to get back to the hotel.”
“Jeez, I thought I was bossy.” She snarks, walking away but not before the tip of your foot meets with her behind. “Ow! Meany.” You stick your tongue out on her which she returns, causing the kids in your arms to giggle at their Mama’s banter.
Kelley walks out with Kristie and sees the two giggling toddlers. Rushing over to you, she drops her bag, holds out her hands with a grabby gesture, and takes Ocean from your left arm. Kristie quickly follows and pulls Sloane into hers, allowing her arms to relax from the removed weight.
“I’ve missed you two.” Kelley coos at the boy while sticking her finger out for him to wrap his tiny hands around.
“I want one.” The blonde next to you frowns. “Can I keep her?”
“Mmm, I don’t think Kriegs would be happy with me if I sell her children-“
Your statement is cut off by the locker room door opening, revealing the said girl with dampened hair and a bag swung over her shoulders. “I leave you for a few minutes and you’re already auctioning off my babies?”
“Am not! Kristie is thinking about stealing Sloane!” You defend yourself while pointing to the girl.
“Hey!”
Ali chuckles and wraps her arm around your waist, pulling you into her chest. You don’t know if she realizes what she’s doing, but you’re far from complaining about the closeness. You both watch as your guys' two friends continue to mess with the children before you see them yawn.
“Alright, time to go. Gotta put these two to sleep.”
Kristie frowns but reluctantly hands Sloane over to you anyway. You smile sympathetically and pat her back with your free hand.
“I’m going to call Sam and ask for one now. I’ll see you two later.” The girl hops off on her phone, most likely already face-timing her Australian fiancé.
Kelley also bids her goodbyes, parting ways from the four of you, letting you all finally walk out to the car. You both buckle them in before you settle into the passenger seat and Ali in the driver.
The car ride remains silent besides the quiet hum of the radio in the background. You keep your gaze out the window, watching the unfamiliar buildings pass and the stars in the sky. The two toddlers in the back both fall asleep due to it being past their bedtime and the eventful day they had.
As you pull into the hotel parking lot, you unbuckle your seatbelt and turn around to look at the peaceful two.
“They’re so precious.” You mumble in awe to which Ali hums in agreement, also looking with you.
You both grab their sleeping forms and head into the hotel room. You’ve been staying with Kyle at his, but since she insisted on driving you back, you follow her into her room, thinking she might want to hang out for a bit. When in the room, you both first change the kids' clothes and place them into their little cribs for the night.
Ali sighs and thumps onto the bed in the middle of the room with her hands covering her face. Her shirt rides up due to her arms lifting, exposing her muscular stomach. You sit at the edge of the mattress and admire the beauty in front of you. A clearing of a throat breaks your stare and turns your attention to the brunette who is now sat up staring at you with a ghost of a smirk.
Heat once again radiates onto your face, embarrassing you further proving you just got caught. The best moves and the sheets shuffle from her moving to sit next to you. She nudges her shoulder with hers as she continues to look at your side profile.
Breaking the silence she says, “I’m happy you came with us to Portland. It means a lot to me; you being here through everything.”
“Like I said, I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
You look up back at her and your stomach twists at the sight of her gaze remaining on you. With both of your heads turned, your nose is almost hitting against hers. For a second, you swear you saw her eyes flick down to your lips, but maybe your eyes are deceiving you, feeding into your delusional mind that thinks she may feel the same.
Surprisingly, your mind wasn’t faking you out. Her hand reaches out and rests on your cheek, the soft pad of her thumb stroking your skin gently. She slowly leans in closer when she sees you look at her lips, taking it as a sign you’re not going to find her disgusting.
“Is this okay?” The brunette asks as her lips hover over yours. You nod instantly, not trusting your voice at the moment.
That’s when it finally happens. Her lips slot into yours like a missing piece to a puzzle you worked ages on. The kiss is firm, not too soft to make you think she’s unsure, but not too rough to make you think there’s no meaning behind it. As it continues, her other hand moves down and strokes your thigh which makes you crumble even more into the kiss while your hands rest lightly on her chest.
It lasts until you two need air, pulling away you rest your forehead against hers, giggling lightly in delight.
“What are you giggling about?” She smiles at the sweet sound.
“I just can’t believe this is happening. I’m really happy is all.”
Your right-hand slides itself to the back of her neck and rubs up and down, soothing the tense muscles. She sighs in relief from the feeling and pulls away slightly to be able to look at you. If she was a cartoon, hearts would appear in her eyes from seeing you smile softly at her and your doe eyes roaming her face.
Not being able to control herself, she pulls you in again and places multiple pecks on your lips, causing you to giggle at the outburst and try to lightly shove her off. She finally stops when she hears a quiet whine from the crib which makes the both of you pause and see if you woke one of the toddlers up. Lucky for you, they must have fallen back asleep as quickly as they woke up.
Ali moves to lie down on the mattress before opening her arms wide, signaling for you to lay down with her. You slot yourself comfortably into her embrace and cuddle into her chest. She presses one final peck to your head before whispering, “You are the one for me.”
You tap her waist 3 times, telling her you feel the same, something you've both done ever since you started hanging out. Both exhausted from the thrilling day, it doesn’t take long for slumber to take over your bodies, making you miss the quiet buzz from your phone.
