Hydrobase DESTROYED!

Right from Atlantis Attacks to Acts of Vengeance?

Ugh. Marvel really was trying to shake all the quarters out of its audience in 1989. And then the trends of the 90s with special covers and new number one's galore? And then bankruptcy because the big comic companies had poisoned their own waters with that kind of behavior?

I'm getting ahead of myself.

I covered all of Atlantis Attacks because the Avengers and West Coast Avengers chapters wouldn't make any sense in isolation.

I am NOT covering all of Acts of Vengeance.

I counted 50 participating issues before I gave up! That is so much! And it's not really an overarching story so much as... like a vibe? A vague theme?

Villains attacking people they don't usually villain because some masterminds think that would give them a better chance of winning.

A flawed premise because in Marvel, the idea of a strict rogues gallery is a lot more loose. Since a huge chunk of the superhero populace operates out of New York, everybody just kinda shares.

I mean, sure, some of the match-ups that took place in Acts of Vengeance were unlikely. But they were match-ups that could have eventually happened just because Superman Doesn't Stay Out of Gotham in Marvel, if you catch my point.

As the bridge between all of Marvel, the Avengers are pretty likely to eventually fight anyone.

Anyway, I'll only be covering the Avengers and Avengers West Coast. If I try to cover everything I will die.

Also, I covered Atlantis Attacks first because Hydrobase/Avengers Island shows up in it and then (spoilers) it gets destroyed here in issue #311.

Look at Avengers Island in that opening splash! The runway and roads form a sorta A shape. That's just cool!

That's the coolest the island has ever looked because other aerial shots have been pretty barren or have only showed the Avengers Mansion.

Sadly, Avengers Island never really got a chance to shine. Introduced by Stern before he got unceremoniously booted by editorial meddling and barely utilized by Walter Simonson since his run barely got off the ground. John Byrne seemed like he was going to do something with it when his run started because he had the island moved closer to New York and renamed from Hydrobase to Avengers Island.

But it got hoisted out of the sea (somehow without being majorly damaged) in the Lava Men trilogy and then wasn't really important in the Gilgamesh Is Dead trilogy and now here we are where (spoilers) its going to be destroyed.

I'm jumping the gun a little bit to eulogize but it's been a recent them of the Avengers books that interesting ideas just don't get a chance before they're taken out back and shot.

Captain Monica as the chairwoman of the Avengers. The Worst Roster. Avengers Island.

There's always someone smacking the book and yelling at it to stop trying new things.

Anyway. My unending sadness aside, this is a Quasar focus issue.

I'm not really sure when he became an Avenger because he just started showing up as one when Cap announced the Every Avenger Is An Avenger roster. So either sometime in another book or he was just nearby when Cap was gathering people and got included to pad out the numbers.

(Apparently, there was a back-up story in Avengers Annual #18 set between Avengers #303 and 304 showing that Quasar got invited to join after the Super-Nova incident. Captain America and Hawkeye fight over him. It sounds like a fun story. But I read Avengers Annual #18 for Atlantis Attacks and sometimes back-up stories are omitted on Unlimited and whoops this is one of those times.)

Quasar shows up at Avengers Island after participating in another Acts of Vengeance over in his own book.

Speaking of ideas that never really got a chance to shine: the Avengers Support Crew finally show up!

With the Avengers getting a whole island as their headquarters, some noise was made in Simonson's run that they'd be hiring more of a support crew than just Jarvis. Mostly characters from Captain America's orbit.

But with Simonson leaving the book, not a lot was done with that idea. Until now! The very issue that the new, bigger headquarters they were hired to help with is going to sink!

Anyway. We have Robert Frank Jr - Nuklo from Giant-Size Avengers #1. Son of the Whizzer and Miss America (not the modern one). He was cured of being excessively radioactive and got hired to be a groundskeeper on Avengers Island.

We have Peggy Carter. I don't need to explain Peggy Carter. She fought in World War II and was Cap's sometimes girlfriend. Then he started dating her niece instead. Which is a very normal thing to do, probably. She was hired to be in charge of telecommunications.

There's Fabian Stankiewicz. Good ol' Mechano-Marauder! That dingus that kept building robot suits to attack the Avengers and he was treated as a bit of a joke villain? Even getting beaten once by David Letterman. Yes, David Letterman. Cap saw potential in him anyway and hired him to maintain and improve the Avengers' technology.

There's M'Daka, a Wakandan pilot that delivered Captain America a new shield once. And apparently this made such an impression on Cap that he poached the guy from T'Challa to work for the Avengers as a mechanic.

Michael O'Brien, the former head of security for Project PEGASUS and later the Vault and was hired as head of security for the Avengers. Given the stuff that happened at Project PEGASUS and the Vault, I don't know if he's great at his job. But also the Avengers aren't great at security sometimes so its a lateral move, at worst.

Jarvis, of course, is on the payroll as butler and delightful human being. I assume he gets paid extra for being so delightful.

Keith Kincaid, husband to Jane Foster, was hired as a doctor so the Avengers wouldn't have to rely on mysterious Doctor Donald Blake just showing up whenever there's a medical emergency. And presumably to make Thor feel bad whenever he has to look at the dude that married his girlfriend because his dad made them break up.

There's also Donna Maria Puentes, a South American revolutionary that impressed Captain America with how good she was at shooting Nazi androids. So he hired her as an administrator.

Take this with a grain of salt because I'm also the person looking forward to the Avengers' 90s team jackets but I think the blue jumpsuits and red turtlenecks are a very spiffy look for the support crew.

I honestly like the idea that as a bigger, more officially recognized super-team, the Avengers would have a support staff. And since security is very hard for superheroes, it's mostly people that Captain America already knew.

This issue really goes into some depth about how Avengers Island normally operates. There's guys doing landscaping. There's guys in a security room spotting Quasar arriving and making sure the system confirms his arrival via retina pattern and fingerprints. Then they watch him as he makes his way through the Mansion towards the communication room.

When he gets there Peggy Carter tells him that she's getting reports from all over that superheroes are getting attacked by people they've never faced before.

She won't call it a plot without more evidence but she definitely is thinking the word plot very loudly.

Elsewhere, a mysterious (Loki) man in a suit sits on a throne flanked by two fancy braziers (it's Loki) spying on the Avengers' communication room with magical scrying (Acts of Vengeance plays this up as a mystery but it's Loki, you know it, I know it, and he knows it).

Definitely Loki meets with a mysterious green cloaked figure (Dr Doom, obviously) and ... Shredder from Ninja Turtles? Or maybe the Mandarin? And there's a lot of Everything Transpires How We Planned and yeah we're definitely all going to try to betray each other between them.

Definitely Doom says that he's set in motion his part of the plan.

Anyway, Peggy Carter just finishes telling Quasar that she hasn't been able to contact any of the other Avengers when Avengers Island starts to shake.

Peggy checks on the security monitor and OH NO

Dozens of robots are smashing holes in the flotation cushions that keep the not-an-island Avengers Island floating!

Since it's just Quasar and the support crew (despite the lying cover featuring Thor, Namor, She-Hulk, Sersi, and Captain America! That's a lot of lying, even by cover standards!), it's an all hands situation.

The non-superpowered people all grab laser rifles from gun lockers, Fabian gets into his latest battlesuit, and Quasar flies out and starts blasting robots.

I'm of two minds here, re: the Acts of Vengeance conceit.

The Avengers have fought Doom before. He's not showing up personally, just sending some robots. But I think it counts. So Doom attacking the Avengers with robots isn't a match-up they haven't had before.

But most of the actual Avengers are off busy somewhere. I don't think Quasar has fought Doom. So Quasar and the Avengers Support Crew versus some Doom robots that aren't Doombots is a novel match-up.

The support crew and Quasar blast the bots to pieces but the disembodied limbs keep attacking.

Rocket punch!

That ol' Doom sure knows how to build a robot.

Even as the support crew and Quasar blast bots, more continue to punch holes in Avengers Island.

MEANWHILE, SPACE.

Which is a thing you have to say when reading comics.

Starfox sneaks aboard Nebula's spaceship to find out what his supposed grandniece is up to. He pleasure zonks a guard unconscious and steals his environment suit so he can be INCOGNITO.

He finds his way to the bridge where Nebula and her Rigellian minion Gunthar are looking over the tablets they recovered from Omicron Seti, which hold in their ancient carvings A SECRET THAT DETERMINES THE FATE OF THE UNIVERSE. A secret that will make her scarier than Thanos.

But she'll need Paul Harker, that random old man scientist the book has kept cutting to. The one who blew up his own basement with his new invention? That guy.

The one subplot the Avengers book has been dutifully building up.

Back at Avengers Island, the support crew is getting overwhelmed. Even Stankiewicz in his battlesuit.

BUT DAMMIT THEY WON'T GIVE UP. THEY HAVE TO PROVE THEY'RE WORTHY OF CAP'S TRUST!

Wow. Cap picked well. These guys really want to live up to what he saw in them.

Quasar sees some of the robots messing with the big Quinjet fuel storage tanks but he's able to chase them away pretty easily. Too pretty easily...

But he literally doesn't have time to worry about that.

He sends Peggy Carter to go back to the communications room and try again to contact the Avengers. Despite Peggy telling him the emergency signal has been going since the attack started.

Peggy worries that the Avengers are already dead, since she wasn't able to raise them before the attack. But she's not going to think about it!

The robots retreat but the island is already sinking.

Quasar doesn't know whether this is a trick or not but he decides to use the breathing room anyway.

He orders an evacuation and orders the support crew to try to prepare as many of the Quinjets for launch as they can reasonably save.

Then he dives into the water to check to see if Hydrobase Avengers Island can be saved.

And. No.

No, it can't.

Every one of the flotation cylinders has been ruptured and has taken on water. There's just not enough time to patch all the holes before the island completely sinks.

Quasar does create a giant brace with his green lantern-ish powers to stabilize the island.

I wonder why he doesn't make a jack to lift it completely out of the water. He's thrown an entire Terminus into space once.

For that matter, weren't giant spikes put into Avengers Island to keep it in one place? Where are those and wouldn't they help keep the island afloat?

I guess that got lost in the shuffle.

O'Brien rushes into the mansion (where the flooding is ruining all of Tony Stark's art and rugs) to look for Peggy Carter. Who you may recall was sent back into the Mansion to try to contact the Avengers despite an automated distress call going out.

Way to manufacture drama, Quasar.

Peggy insists at staying at her post, continuing to try to contact help. Like she thinks she's on the Titanic or something. But O'Brien lies and says that the Avengers are here so c'mon lets hustle.

Then the secret bomb that the robots secretly left at the fuel tanks unsecretly explodes.

Knocking Quasar for a loop and rendering his plan to stabilize the island moot.

There's just no chance of saving the island now.

But Quasar does pop out of the water to save O'Brien and Peggy and carry them to the Quinjet Jarvis is piloting.

Hi, Jarvis!

Jarvis: "I only wish we had never removed our headquarters from New York City. Then, perhaps... nothing like this... could ever have happened. The proud history of Avengers Mansion would not have ended like this..."

Jarvis, I love ya, but shut up. You sound like you're speaking from the editorial, not from the heart.

Don't forget that y'all moved to the island in the first place because the Masters of Evil basically gutted Avengers Mansion. You might as well say 'I only wish we'd moved out to sea earlier so nothing like this could ever have happened' about that.

And like I said at the beginning of this post, Avengers Island was not a mistake. It was a new direction for the book that never got a chance to shine before someone lost their nerve and forced a change back to status quo.

Because, yes, before too long, Avengers Mansion will be rebuilt back in Manhattan.

And I like Avengers Mansion. Honestly, it's my favorite HQ for the team. But I wish this era wasn't characterized with timid backtracking.

Aside from that, this is a cool issue. Seeing the civilian support staff and Quasar have to defend the base while the Avengers are absent is pretty interesting.

I disagree with the sinking of Avengers Island but it does give Acts of Vengeance some impact. Although it can't compare to the last big HQ wrecking, Avengers Under Siege.

Anyway. Quasar says he gets the feeling this whole thing isn't over. And he's right. There's two more Acts of Vengeance in Avengers and three in Avengers West Coast.

Four in Avengers Spotlight but I don't read that. It says Avengers on it but it's like Two-in-One or Marvel Team-Up but with Hawkeye.

Finally made a reference sheet for the Dim Sun members in my Pokemon Ranger Shadows of Almia Resocialization AU!

The story resumes 4 years after Operation Brighton was successfully completed. Hastings and Erma learn that the higher ranked Ex Team Dim Sun members are supposed to be released into early probabtion time. When they visit the former criminals they realize that while they have recovered from the effects of the Dark Crystal and don't seem to pose a big threat to Almia anymore they aren't quite decent people and useful members of society yet.

So with all of her chivalry Erma decides to get the Union involved in their probabtion time. Together with Hastings she comes up with a program that seeks to reform and resocialize the former villains.

Here's a short preview of the resocialization program document:

Every Ex-Dim-Sun-Member will be assigned a partner and mentor figure from the Union who holds authority over them but also takes responsibility for their actions during probation.

2. Every Ex-Dim-Sun-Member will receive a weekly schedule filled with tasks similar to community service.

3. Every Ex-Dim-Sun-Member has to support their mentor and must contribute to their job in a positive way

4. Criminal activities and prohibited behaviors of the attendants of this program will be penalized with the program and probation time being revoked.

Wyatt (Blake) Hall - Rhythmi

Kincaid - Kate

Wheeler - Wendy

Ice - Murph

Lavana - Keith

Heath - Sven

Wyatt: A bit self-conscious and still haunted by his past crimes and immense feelings of guilt. But overall he is a pretty facile person and Rhythmi does not have any trouble with him. He is a flagship attendant of the program. Wyatt completes his tasks with honesty and nothing but good intentions for the people of Almia and his mentor. Sometimes he is a bit depressed but learning to be valuable to society and a good person improves his mental state more and more. Wyatt is not sure what he wants to do with his life yet but he feels inspired to help people and Pokemon as much as he can to try and make up for his past mistakes.

Kincaid: While he understands that he had to face prison for the list of crimes he commited he is not happy with the program being forced onto him. He was an independent man before Team Dim Sun and he can find a way to live an honest life by himself. Kincaid still believes that he doesn't need to have faith in other people to achieve his goals, no matter their moral alignment. Kate acting as some sort of mentor is ridiculous to him, what could he learn from a young adult anyway? Kate and Kincaid's partnership is held back by their opposite world views and distrust. They get into arguments a lot to the point it's hindering the program. Hastings decides to cuff them together so they have to learn to work as a team. Kincaid's additionally helping Hastings with strategizing for missions and Kate has to attend every meeting of them being nerds, obviously.

Wheeler: Wendy and Wheeler get along as soon as they realize how much they can learn from each other. She expects him to have his own opinion and view of things and helps him to grow as a person. His biggest weakness was the dependency on his former boss and his approval. Once Wendy learns about his talent for cooking they spend a lot of time doing that together. (Much to the other Union members' delight.) Wheeler tries to be a friendly fella but has his snarky moments anyway. He especially loves annoying Ice and Kincaid as they both seem to be not improving much as people.

Ice: The usually cool ex boss of the Sinis Trio seems to have fallen into some sort of rebellious phase. Murph is trying his best to have Ice do the tasks he is assigned and still be a diligent Union member. But all of his attempts only motivate Ice to be more problematic. If Murph didn't know any better he would say Ice wants to go back to prison because that's easier than trying to improve. It's the path of least resistance and doesn't require Ice to work hard. With some time and lots of stupid pranks he begins to feel guilty for causing Murph so much trouble. Ultimately he is impressed by Murph not giving up on him despite his behavior and really tries to change for the better.

Lavana: Out of all the ex members Lavana for sure is the most ambitious attendant. Shortly after the program starts she announces that she wants to pick up her dream of becoming a Pokemon Ranger again. Despite some protests from Hastings she receives the position as a trainee Ranger at the Union from Erma. She is still a little princess at the start but Keith and her new job help her realize that some things in life are only attainable through hard work and passion. The people and Pokemon of Almia showing gratitude is something new but Lavana feels very accomplished every time she helped someone. However, she gets gradually annoyed with Keith being absent so often, mentally and physically. Somehow he is obsessed with making sure Kate is alright.

Heath: Sven has no trouble with Heath, he may be a slow learner but he is also very patient and obedient. Heath seems to be glad that the Union is taking care of him and sees the program as his 2nd chance in life. It appears that he is more worried about how some of his former colleagues don't take this seriously. Sven does not feel any deeper attachment towards Heath, unlike some of his Ranger colleagues. For him this is just a job that needs to be done. Heath looks up to Sven and admires his confidence and sense of morality. He becomes increasingly helpful on missions and proves to be a gentle giant when it comes to caring about his friends and former colleagues. To him Dim Sun was his family.

You know that famous saying: if there’s anyone you want in your corner during an unplanned pregnancy, it’s Shirley Partridge…

I just love these characters’ close platonic relationship, and with Shirley having a definitive leg up on Reuben when it comes to experience having and raising children (not that life with a young musical troupe under your roof doesn’t still present its fresh challenges on the daily 😞), of course she would be a dependable source of advice and consolation. 

Here’s something tangentially related I made up: I like imagining that shortly after Reuben divulged the big news (long before the happening in the above pic), Shirley gave a sort of earnest, kind “pep talk” to the kids at breakfast (Shirley: “Now, as our manager, Reuben is going to continue to do everything he has been doing for us up until the baby is almost ready to be born. But as our friend, he’s going to need our support. I mean, the pregnancy, caring for a newborn… he’s never done anything like this before.”). “You don’t say. Here I was thinking he was a natural,” Keith retorted, earning some giggles and a reluctant, unimpressed smirk from his mother. Laurie, ever the serious-minded idealist, suggested they could start by pitching in supplies like diapers and bottles, necessities that would contribute to the soon-to-be-baby’s wellbeing. (I think she’d take an interest in this, and even in challenges facing parents. Her other modus operandi throughout this pregnancy stint would be pointing out anything erring on the side of selfish or sexist that Reuben came out with.) And then, Danny piped up - “Well, I think we should make sure we put Mr. Kincaid in touch with a good tailor.” When Shirley innocently asked him why, he immediately reasoned that it was so he could get all those expensive suits taken out. 😂

Piggybacking off the question about simple picture books? When I read that, I thought like “Duck! Rabbit!” (Amy Krouse Rosenthal) or Liz Climo (LOVE HER! But her stuff isn’t super detailed). That’s what I would think of and I also kind of wonder why they can be so simple when other art is much more elaborate but considered not good enough.

I don’t understand how I didn’t already answer this in the question you are piggybacking off.

Why does something have to be ELABORATE to be worthwhile? You say you love Liz Climo’s work — would you love it more if it was covered in curlicues or something? Isn’t the simple aesthetic a big part of its charm?

Things can be simple and GREAT. Things can be quite elaborate, and shitty. Like how that bowl of fresh strawberries I talked about in the previous post is great, while an elaborately decorated but dry cake is not-so-great. Please give me a “simple” Keith Haring graffiti baby rather than subjecting my eyes to Thomas Kincaide schlock. I’m repeating myself, but hey, you asked the same question again.

So how about this: Art is subjective. Luckily there is all kinds of art in books, from very simple to very elaborate. There are even lots of books that, in MY opinion, seem to be specifically for people with terrible taste! So buy what you like and leave the rest. I promise that if people weren’t buying and enjoying these simple books, they’d stop getting published.

USS Albacore (SS-218), a 311-foot, Gato-class submarine lost 7 November 1944 of the coast of Hokkaido Japan, she was presumed lost on 21 December 1944 and struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 30 March 1945, found 16 February 2023.

The USS Albacore earned 9 battle stars, received 4 Presidential Unit Citations and was responsible for sinking at least 10 ships.

Josh Allen Dates in His League

It’s not a competition.  But I win the title of biggest Hailee Steinfeld fan. I even vaguely know why she's famous.  The voice of Gwen Stacy is now Buffalo’s First Lady as if nerds weren’t already envious of our de facto executive.  Like Jerry Seinfeld when Elaine’s dating Keith Hernandez, I’m jealous of everybody. 

I made sure to spell her name correctly to flaunt my dedication.  Copying and pasting was a worthwhile investment this past weekend that taught me through repetition.  As an expert on her career, I’ve known how to type her name correctly without checking for a few days now.  If I got it wrong, I would have to pretend it was a joke about ignorance of her oeuvre.  Simultaneously, I now don’t care for our quarterback’s ex whatshername, a free agent who can date a Patriot.

Hailee is an actress and singer, according to information I totally didn’t just glean from her Wikipedia. My expertise on all things Buffalo Bills extends to learning why she’s famous.  An actress and pop star dates a fellow double threat.

A transaction can alter perception.  Buffalonians suddenly prefer the True Grit remake to the original, which is a matter of taste and not that the city’s most beloved dreamboat is courting one of its stars. I also now have an opinion about the Pitch Perfect movie series, which may seem weird but is not much different than thinking Dalton Kincaid is just the sort of player I want to cheer for right as he’s drafted.

Life can change in a moment.  Take how her ubiquitously incessant hit Starving used to infiltrate my brain and play on a loop as a cruel joke from an uncaring universe that didn’t care how my thoughts weren’t something I wanted to think.  But I now welcome encountering her emblematically classic tune that puts anything Verdi wrote to shame.  What was earlier in the month an incessant torment that offered a preview of eternal damnation has become a chance to experience transcendent musical genius repeatedly.

In particular, the once-curious line expressing fondness by informing the singer's partner that she “Don’t need no butterflies when you give me the whole damn zoo” is now worthy of Westerberg.  Like trying to look past Terrell Owens’s myriad transgressions, we seek the upside of new allies.

Learning about who Josh Allen dates is my new offseason hobby.  Taking a very not creepy interest in his time away from work is just another way of showing appreciation.  We swear it’s dedicated and not deranged.

Caring about the doings of admired athletes shows thoroughness.  That's why I found myself interested in what bank Stefon Diggs thought was best for me.  Caring about a certain update just because a particular person is involved applies to celebrity endorsements of corporations or relationships.

Steinfeld could become even more beloved in her adopted homeland if she affects play in one direction.  A glamorous pairing is ideally part of a fully happy life.  Allen doesn’t seem like the type who finds focus in anguish like a miserable single writer who uses personal desolation to mine material and a grudge.  Fellow AFC East quarterback Aaron Rodgers has gone through a handful of romantic affiliations involving ladies with popular Instagram accounts, which could be a trend worth following.

Star power should only be the main attraction when it’s on the field.  But it's nice to recognize fellow backers from somewhere other than Wegmans. Monitoring which humans we know are sitting in suites is the result, not the goal.  The urge to align with success applies to allurement just like it does athletics.  It’s a good problem to determine who’s hopped on the bandwagon.

Following sports is already bizarre.  Zealots care more than anything about who moves a ball forward better.  Worrying intently about ligaments of people we may never meet has come to feel normal.  Wondering about partners is the next natural step in its way.

I blame the calendar for my Tiger Beat tendencies.  Charting wooing is a byproduct of just how much time fans must fill between play.  But even a 40-game NFL season would still feature some days between them.  Thinking about where players are taking flames to dinner creates a break from thinking about the next touchdown’s form.

Post this on Page Six.  Allen is turning football columns into gossip forums.  Someone with multiple talents is dating Steinfeld.  It’s a sign of just how much attention he draws that Hailee groupies who might not be able to explain a zone blitz know she’s going out with some football guy.  

Questions about the upcoming season revolve around play-calling direction.  I wonder when will we found out Hailee’s favorite pizza parlor.  The answer could endear her even further to Erie County’s residents and enthusiasts.  A quarterback succeeding in multiple ways enjoys time with a new beau in between playing cornerback at OTAs.  Welcoming her as family is how we can make her feel at home.  Does she like football?

Kincaid background is unknown (secret) but he actually have some sort of educational background. He’s still has a skill in spotting talents out of the ordinary. The first time he met Kat she was just a troublesome kid breaking a vending machine. What impresses him more was how her parents didn’t give her an output for this? This is wasting talent!! Anyways.. when her parents were giving her a lecture for doing unforeseen robotics, he told them she would be a genius in tech. By chance, Kat was already in the best school in the area, where Kincaid is in. He now actively sponsors her. (Then they all moved to Almia in via student exchange)

Of course, given that it is an exchange program Kincaid has to keep her in check. Unfortunately, Kat is the “well now I’m not doing it now that you told me type”. So she’s giving him trouble.

Kellie was also from Fiore. He’s the son of a very popular whatever.. just think they have big influence here. He was already in Kincaid class and of course.. Kincaid is trying to get him on board with this plan. However the biggest struggle is literally convincing the boy since he’s Very. Very. unmotivated. He’s a natural social genius yet doesn’t like any interaction that doesn’t interest him.

Kellie only followed Kincaid when he mentioned they’re taking him to ranger school. Kincaid here actually works as a supervisor because Kellie has actual work in Altru including and they know Kincaid from the inside, putting trust on him. He always lived a carefree lived and his motivation is way too vague to tell. (Kincaid thinks he’s actually more at risk of drifting away from their group than Kat is)

Both Kat and Kellie were separate project. He didn’t plan for them to meet. They first began interacting in Almia Ranger School. Kat actually wonders why Kincaid needed Kellie because of course “Kincaid doesn’t really need anyone else doesn’t he?” (This leads to her investigating the organization as a whole, realizing that it’s much bigger than just robotics privileges). However instead of breaking away this strenghtened both of the two bonds.

Kincaid: what (oh sh-)

Kat: I agree

Kincaid: (huh?)

After this the two have full transparency. Anyways.. Kat realized Kellie’s background and was more like okay we’re coworkers. “I guess Kellie does play a good role in the plan..” Although…. it was kind of unexpected given Kellie were more of the “carefree type”. They got closer later on. Kat thinks Kellie should rebel more because why aren’t you extorting Kincaid more. We in this together dude!

Also Kat suspected Kellie had relation to Kincaid at first because “He isn’t the troublesome type but still here anyway”. (Referring to some sorta detention)

Kellie knew right of the bat that Kat and Kincaid were actually allies to each other by sheer observation alone. Even when both the Professor and Kat literally seems like they only got beef with each other (This is why Isa doesn’t suspect that Kat and Kincaid is in the same faction). There will be more children dramas between R!Rhythmi, R!Keith, R!Ponte and Isa but that’s a topic for another stuff..

Guest host Ralph Miller III, who worked behind the scenes on Dream Warriors provides insights and many effects development photos that are shown in the YouTube version of the podcast. Post-recording, the crew wants to clarify that Kevin Yagher was responsible for the Freddy Snake, and Mark Shostrom was in charge of the Penelope Sudrow dummy that smashes into the Freddyvision TV.

With the success of A Nightmare on  Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), following the critical failure of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985), New line Cinema firmly cemented Freddy Krueger and A Nightmare on Elm Street as one of the most iconic horror franchises of its time. Not only does Dream Warriors feature Robert Englund continuing to breathe both humor and fear into Freddy Krueger but also the return of both Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon from the original. The film also features Craig Wasson (Ghost Story) as the male lead and early film roles for Patricia Arquette and Larry Fishburne. Frank Darabont (The Mist) and Bruce Wagner join Wes Craven on scripting chores and Chuck Russell (The Blob, The Mask) directs while Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet) provides the score – a winning combination of talent.
