#movementminute !!! Get up and shake your groove thang. It doesn't take more than a minute to do something good for the body. Remember the bear crawl? Maybe, maybe not? Great for your core and hamstring mobility. Tips: start on your hands and knees, hands directly under the shoulders, knees under the hip joint, spread your fingers wide, spiral the eyes of the elbows forward (external rotation) and come up into the A-Frame shape - like your downward dog. Right hand, then left foot. Take small steps, and make sure the step with the hand is the same length as the step with the foot. Next, have fun with it! Your squat may look different, that's ok. Your twist may look different, that's ok. I did a demo at 2 different heights, it doesn't matter. Squat & twist! So I did a crazy thing! I ran in my primitive sandals from @earthrunners in a relay from Austin to Corpus Christi, TX for the Cap to Coast relay. 223 miles with a 12 man team (@rawrunning) and we took home 1st place! . But it was no simple feat. The amount of preparation that goes into an event like this is an undertaking. So thankful for the people at RAW and @underarmour for making this possible. I can't wait to see the footage as well! . Of the 3 legs I ran, which added up to about 20 miles total, I was happy with two of the efforts, while the first leg was a disaster, but also outside of my control. Long story short, I got a huge thorn stuck in my foot! . Didn't let it stop me though. Finished the rest of the 20-some-hour race bloodied, bandaged and happier every step closer to the finish line! . Moral of the story reminded me that as humans we all fail. It's simply part of the experience. You can either let it fester and spoil your mind, or push on further despite the odds. If you're not failing at some point, you're probably not pushing yourself hard enough. Important things to remember for #runners but also anyone who is struggling. My favorite gym: nature. Movement is the foundation of overall health and well-being. Have you gotten enough nutritious movement today? I couldn't agree more! The work that Travell and Simons did back in the 70's was invaluable, and practitioners across multiple disciplines now routinely use their findings to treat myofascial pain throughout the body. But I think some have missed an important point. There is a concept that describes how key trigger points are responsible for activating satellite trigger points. If you're not familiar with trigger points, in short, they are taut bands within muscles that can potentially refer pain to other parts of the body. When studying for my dry needling certification I always wondered, "so where is the mothership?" If one trigger point is created by another, where does it all stem from? I'm not interested in chasing pain. I'm compelled to get to the root of the problem. Ladies and gents, it starts from the bottom up! .
