Being a pro-Jedi fan is super hard.

Stumbled upon a scientific paper ‘The Psychgeist of Pop Culture’ (2024) about ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ series. It’s divided into many smaller research by various PhDs. The Boba chapters are actually very good.

And then there’s ‘Fatherhood and male emotions’ chapter. About Jedi. About attachment. The authors Keely Diebold and Meghan Sander, PhDs, are claimed as Jedi fans.

Good start. / s Bad enough Din Djarin is called ‘Djarin’ as a name throughout the whole paper (my own pet peeve about the dick move of Favreau and Filoni in the end of Season 3 which is a decision to criticize in itself). Of course, Obi-Wan wasn’t a ‘good father figure’ as claimed by Lucas himself. Neither was Bail Organa. /s

Yeah. Hypocrisy. Hey, ‘Jedi fans authors’, have you actually watched the movies? Sigh. Seriously, ‘the intergalactic therapists’ who were trying to help Anakin to cope with his emotions so much, working with ‘cognitive therapy’ – they suppressed emotions. I just… don’t have any coherent thoughts about that bullshit on the screencap. And – now we defend Palpatine. Just great.

By the way, rewatching Indiana Jones movies, I paid special attention to the moments when someone of the team is left behind and the main characters continue chasing the enemies (just like in the mentioned scene in AOTC). And it’s never presented as ‘left behind and forgotten, heroes don’t care about them’.

What is evident to me is that this all is a piece of banthashit. Mandos with the suppression of emotions – I agree. Jedi? When one of their main proverbs ‘feel, don’t think’?

‘His own interpretation’? It’s not! Why did the authors decide that’s what happened? The point is that Anakin is taught ‘compassion, which … [is] unconditional love, is central to a Jedi’s life. … we are encouraged to love’ by the Jedi, but acts in the way he wants regardless. Screams in the plush Grogu How do people manage to watch obvious in messaging children films with their ass holes?

Frankly, I suspect that these ‘Jedi-fans’ authors just don’t understand and didn’t even try to explore the meaning of ‘attachment’ in Star Wars – it’s not ‘a deep and enduring emotional bond that connects one person to another’, it’s ‘selfishness’. They never tried to google Lucas’s interviews, but only used books about child rearing. This is why we have all this crap in a ‘scientific paper’. I firmly believe that @david-talks-sw, @writerbuddha, @kanansdume, @antianakin, @smhalltheurlsaretaken and other fans could write a whole paper about Jedi and attachments – and this would be real in-depth analysis of the Jedi and Star Wars.

And a rotten cherry on the top of this shitcake I noticed just before publishing – using ScreenRant as a reference not the smartest move, really.

Now how can a reader trust your judgment if you use fucking ScreenRant as a proof? Ah, no, they cannot (see this whole post).

they just spent a lot of time not being together because of outside influences and now they just want to spend the rest of their lives together

all of phoebe + knox's family is there

plus the santoses, the bayview crew, ash & eli, and nonny

knox asks owen to be his best man and it makes phoebe cry for like three days straight

maeve is maid of honor

phoebe struggles with picking the wedding party because she should chose emma as maid of honor but maeve is her best friend and she was there for phoebe when no one else (other than knox) was

emma is actually the one who says phoebe should ask maeve

maeve throws herself into wedding planning

she and melissa are a force to be reckoned with

they're married in knox's back yard

phoebe chooses to wear a replica of her mother's dress but she asks ashton to help her sew on lace detail to make it her own

addy does phoebe's hair and keely does her makeup

phoebe plans on walking down the aisle by herself but as she's getting ready she realizes she doesn't actually want to be by herself

before she puts on her dress she hunts down cooper and pulls him aside

"it's okay if you don't want to, but you were there for me at a time when i really needed support. would you maybe want to walk down the aisle with me?"

cooper can't answer for a few minutes because he's full on sobbing

of course he says yes, and phoebe is so happy she thought to ask him

there's a lot of crying at the wedding because phoebe looks so beautiful and happy and knox looks so happy and they're just so in love

they have a small wedding after kris graduates from medical school

it's at contigo

the restaurant is closed for the day

it's a small guest list: the bayview crew, nonny and lucas, kris's immediate family and friends, the santos family, and ash & eli

it's less of a wedding and more of a party since cooper and kris decided to just go to a courthouse a few days earlier

they all take turns telling stories about cooper and kris (obviously addy and keely's idea)

and luis learned how to cook some of kris's favorite dishes from germany over facetime with kris's mom

there's a lot of laughter and good food, which is exactly what coop and kris always wanted

they wake up one day, decide to get married, get married, and then plan a joint facetime with their family/friends to tell them

phoebe and maeve take it upon themselves to throw a surprise party for the girls

they bake so many desserts and buy cute pastel pink decorations

bronwyn and nate

bronwyn's parents plan most of the wedding since bron was busy finishing law school and nate became a partner in myers construction

bronwyn wears a gorgeous dress that her grandmother made for her

nate's vows are in spanish

keely has to run interference with bronwyn's makeup because she's crying so hard at the vows

maeve puts together a slideshow of pictures of the couple instead of her speech, and the last picture is one that ellen took of them when they were little and still attending st. pius together

they print and frame the picture, and it lives on a shelf in their living room

i kind of feel like maeve and luis don't get married for a while

maeve is a spanish teacher and luis is opening a restaurant so they don't have a lot of money for things like a wedding

luis proposes the night that the restaurant opens (yes this is @glitterandgoldrush's headcanon and i'm in love with it)

they just get married at a courthouse

but they have a potluck dinner that night with friends and family

Finished Heir of Fire:

Rowan really grew on me. I knew that the hawk at the beginning of the book had to be someone spying on her and it was him.

Sorscha. Sweet, sweet Sorscha.

I love Aedion. I hated him (obviously) at first but then when it was revealed what his true nature was, it was immediately love.

I'm so broken over Chaol and Dorian's friendship, but also the fact that Dorian is now under a Wyrdkey!!!

And Manon! The new additions to the story had me wondering what SJM was doing by introducing them. I actually like her a lot. Abraxos reminds me of Toothless.

However I draw the line at Luca, Emerys and Malakai. If anything happens to them, I will riot.

And Celaena, or should I say Aelin Ashryver Galathynius! The Queen you will become. I have high, high hopes for her.

i was just thinking about how thankful i am that they got luca to direct challengers like aside from him being brilliant i feel like that script SO SO needed an actual gay person’s perspective to elevate it to where it ended up… keely was telling me the hotel room scene + the shot where it shows patrick swiping on a dude on tinder were both not in the original script which just makes me like okay that movie really could have been like predictable as hell and honestly kind of homophobic. like ik a lot of people on here disagree but i do think we’re kind of beyond subtext at this point in the culture. at least in that specific form. bc ofc the movie is full of subtext it’s just not ONLY subtext it’s also able to explore that stuff in a way that’s nuanced and rich and tbh realistic in a way you can’t be when you have to be like “get it? get it?” the whole time

so i have theories about this “new ship” that anna mentioned and whether it could be:

- lucas and keely (or lucas crushing on her when she and cooper break up but nothing ever happening): chib said that he liked them as a ship so maybe it’s just a crack ship? i don’t think keely would ever do anything but the ship could still be a thing in the fandom/amongst the cast etc.

- janae and addy: addy definitely not but i have a feeling that janae could crush on her after she’s so kind to her and they become close. maybe janae tries to kiss addy and is rejected? this is the thing i think has most probability of happening in the show and on a video of them on the oouil insta jess commented “addytj shippers don’t come at me”.... don’t be suspicious don’t be suspicious

- maeve and janae: i feel like maybe janae was jealous of maeve and simon (which is fucking weird btw she totally hated him in the book) because she liked maeve herself (her liking simon is too cliche and i don’t think it would happen) and the two of them being friends in the past may bring them back together after simon is gone and rather janae becoming stressed and depressed over not being able to hold it together in front of addy, she can’t hold it together in front of maeve

- the last thing i think it could be is addy and tj: i feel like the show might go that step further than the book and actually put them together in the end instead of having addy reject him like in the book which i really would not enjoy... addy’s journey is about finding herself and loving herself independently and if they put her with tj in the end it would just ruin all of it

ALSO not a new ship that anna would necessarily ship but i just have to talk about jake and vanessa... i really think they are in on something there have been many instances where they are closer than average and they tell each other personal things (jake told vanessa about the peanut oil in addy’s locker etc.) and i feel like the show could have devised it so that vanessa had a part in the final plot. why else would she ride so hard on other theories so falsely? in the book she moves on jake after he and addy break up but it wasn’t reciprocated so maybe they took it a step further for the show?

Are there any relationships (romantic or not) that you hope the show explores?

yes! i'll do platonic relationships because i've talked about romantic ones a lot

1: maeve and bronwyn

we all know i'm a sucker for sisters and their relationships, but there's something special about this one. maeve actually actively called bronwyn out on her shit. nate was the one who said "so what? you're not perfect. welcome to the real world" in the books. giving similar lines to maeve in the show makes it even more powerful because little sisters are supposed to worship their older sisters. maeve pointing out that bronwyn is lying to everyone including herself is like a wakeup call to bronwyn because she's supposed to protect maeve. if the person under her care can see it... then it must be true.

also i just think they have a great dynamic in general.

2: cooper and lucas

i just really like siblings okay? lucas knowing coop is gay is honestly amazing and he's just so funny and a great younger brother.

3: maeve and nate

i think they're both hurting in their own quiet ways. they're longing for families and love but they push away the love they get because they're scared. also every time cooper and melissa are on a screen together it makes me so happy

4: cooper and nate

they could really bond over their moms, and the fact that a lot is riding on them. book cooper and nate don't interact enough so this great

5: keely and addy

they never really had any drama until addy made some to avoid jake. book addy and keely had a great relationship and i really hope it's developed in the show as well

One of Us is Lying: First Impressions (And a Lot of Comparing it to the Book Oop-)

So the show is out and these are my thoughts. I read the book for the first time a couple weeks or so ago, so that was on my mind a lot. Spoilers for the book and first three episodes. Here they are:

Where is Ashton? WHERE IS ASHTON!?!?!

I guess we’re doing Addy first. Why would they cut out Ashton? Her relationship with Addy was so good in the book. Okay, so Ashton was Addy’s older sister who was going through a divorce, and it was basically like she was Addy at some point but came out disillusioned by the whole thing and tried to guide her.

I guess excluding her means Addy either has to find that identity post-break up on her own, or rely more on the other three main characters. But I just really liked their bond as sisters in the books.

Why did Addy lie about getting Tylenol? In the book, she admitted to it but lied about why she was getting it because if she said it was for Jake, then Ashton would have thought she was under his thumb. Did she actually not get the Tylenol? Maybe Jake could have gone to the nurse’s and signed her name instead?

I feel like it wasn’t made to be a big enough deal. Like, that was a major clue, but here they bring it up during a montage?

The imagery of Addy doing something freeing like swimming, but then getting yanked up by Jake. Chef’s kiss.

At first, I felt they were telling us that Jake was an asshole, more then they were showing, but the more I think about it the more I get it. Stuff like subtly guilting Addy into going to the wake.

Also, the fact that they made Addy and Vanessa more friendly before the cheating is revealed. And that TJ and Vanessa were dating, just makes her less of a one dimensional mean girl.

And Addy mentioned that she would ‘lose her hair’ if she ever lost Jake.

I also noticed more of an emphasis on her mother, and on Cooper’s brother, Lucas. Addy’s mom is still pretty annoying, but the scene where she asks if Addy did cheat surprised me. It just showed a bit of perceptiveness that wasn’t there in the novel.

Lucas, on the other hand, was aged up. He’s shown to be a lot closer with Cooper than it was shown in the book.

On the other hand, I feel like we didn’t see enough of Nonny. And it’s Nonny!

Cooper’s storyline is already better than in the book. Him being gay is not hidden and made out to be a plot twist. Cooper has people in his life that he willingly told his secret to.

I like that we got to know Kris better. Like, in the book, Kris barely shows up in person, Cooper just mentions he’s in love but we don’t get to know them that well. Then he brings Kris along to a murder club meeting and Kris fucking raises his hand and solves the mystery for them. But here, we see a lot of Cooper’s visits with Kris, we see Kris’ opinions about the things Cooper does, we even get a story about how his day went. It’s just better.

Also, there was a legitimate minute there where I was convinced that Keely was a lesbian. Had me there. But it turns out she was keeping an ex-boyfriend off her back. My theory is that it’s Simon, because of how obsessed he was with her in the book, but I feel like Cooper and Addy would know that??? Or at least that Cooper would want to know who this creepy ex is?

And super glad that Keely is in on Cooper’s secret.

It also looks like they’re setting up for Cooper’s drug tests to come up positive, which could make the fake secret a bigger deal but at the same time the detective caught him with Kris.

And they keep mentioning an incident in Mississippi, which I think could be that he had a boyfriend, or maybe tried to ask one of his friends out, and the guy turned on him and accused him of something and Cooper denied it.

The meetings come up a lot sooner. In the book it takes a lot more time for all four to get together to discuss what to do, but it felt more natural that way. Here, it kind of feels like Bronwyn was jumping into it a lot quicker, at a point where everyone was still untrustworthy to her, while in the book Bronwyn had already gotten together with Nate, befriended Addy, and Cooper had started having lunch with them, so they’d all already lost enough that relying on each other was the natural progression. Here, there’s really no reason Bronwyn would trust the others yet.

The computer storyline. It feels a little contrived that Bronwyn would take Simon’s computer. To be fair, she didn’t know it would turn into a murder plot, but that she wouldn’t tell anyone about it is just a dumb move for ‘the smart one’.

Maeve being into Simon was blindsiding. In the book, Simon bullied Maeve on his site because of a major overreaction on something Bronwyn did. I’m interested in seeing where this crush thing will pan out.

I guess the computer, and the crush, is there to eventually put more of a spotlight on the possibility that Bronwyn did it.

I feel like Maeve and Bronwyn are a lot less close. Like Maeve didn’t tell Bronwyn about taking the computer, Bronwyn didn’t know about her and Simon. Maybe they’re meant to take over Addy and Ashton’s thing where they weren’t that close, but Ashton was so supportive that they became really close.

I wish they kept the scene where Nate hangs out with them that first night.

In general, Nate and Bronwyn’s relationship seems a lot more tense, when they were mostly just cute in the novel. Most of the drama (besides the ending) comes from the murder mystery plot, and I prefer it this way. Here, Nate getting caught by her dad is a lot worse, Bronwyn gets pissed about him dealing drugs, she has a boyfriend who doesn’t trust him, but a lot of them just hanging out is cut. They still do stuff together, but it’s plot-related stuff so it’s less of a bonding experience. Nate did give her the phone, so here’s hoping we get those movie nights together.🤞

Speaking of Ethan (Evan?), even though I want Nate and Bronwyn to be less dramatic, I guess I prefer them dating at first to her having a crush she doesn’t believe will last, but then she just forgets about it until after the resolution, because he stops talking to her when she becomes a murder suspect, and then they get together because Nate breaks up with her.

Can I rant about the book ending for a sec? Just have them get back together when she visits his house. It threw off the pacing. I don’t care that Nate needed time, I don’t care if it was more realistic that way. I hate that the epilogue was about them getting back together, immediately following the chapter where they officially break up. It’s so tacked on. It was so weird for them when they’d mostly avoided drama like that. I hope the show doesn’t do it that way.

I was okay with Ethan dating Bronwyn, because I assumed he would break up with her when shit hit the fan and then disappear, like in the book, which shows how bad this whole thing is affecting their social lives. But it looks like he’s sticking around for awhile, which I’m scared will turn into a love triangle, or a romantic false lead, or cheating, or some other cliche thing to throw a hurdle in Nate and Bronwyn’s way. I kind of hope he’ll break up with her when the case gets media coverage.

I cannot stress this enough, being murder suspects is enough drama for these two, they don’t need all this cliche stuff.

As for Nate, I actually like that they made his secret worse. Obviously, what happened was horrible but from a storytelling perspective, his secret in the novel wasn’t enough to justify it as a motive. He was breaking parole so there was that. But it was played as something expected of him, so no one hears about it and treats him differently then they would have. So this kind of puts him on the same bar as the others.

Okay, so in the book, Nate told people that his mother died when he was around eleven years old, but he never said it in the present, like he did in the show. That’s because his mother was alive, but left then came back. And it’s a whole thing too, Nate tells Bronwyn he didn’t want to keep up that lie, it’s just that no one has been close enough to him to bring it up since. So…. Could the mother actually be dead in this?

Also, his dad. We never get the sense that he’s more than just a deadbeat, except for at the end where it’s said that his mother convinced him to go to rehab. Here though, there are these little details. Like Nate puts a blanket on him, the dad wakes up super dazed but then asks how Nate’s been doing, Nate is against painkillers because they ruined his dad’s life. (In the novel the dad was said to be an alcoholic before getting in any accident.) So is it possible that they’re setting up for the dad to take the mom’s storyline?

Oh, and his caller id picture was of Stan!

As I said before, it doesn’t really make sense that Bronwyn would trust in the other three at this point in time. But I appreciate why it was done that way, in order to make the four of them interact more.

I do enjoy the interactions both negative and positive. Openly being suspicious of one another, judging one another, spreading rumors, but then also bonding. I liked Nate smoking with Addy (especially since he referred to her as ‘that blonde girl for the first part of the novel), and also him getting to do something with Cooper because I remember in that ‘Where Are They Now’ chapter Maeve, who was narrating, said that she didn’t think they would hang out without the rest of the group, so I do like that the show can explore how different pairings between the murder squad.

Janae singing ‘Fuck You (very very much)’ at the memorial was amazing.

Eggs > Car Crash (Who agrees to stage a car crash?)

Simon was so pretentious! They had his voice down perfectly. Exactly the kind of guy who would go ‘I am the omniscient narrator’ and then say that school shootings have become derivative.

I do like that we got to meet his parents, and get a better sense for why he is the way he is, and also be able contrast him compared to his home life.

Hated his mom.

Also, those posts that came out say the characters’ full names. Was that the case for all his posts? Because then why couldn’t the school shut it down? It counted as cyber bullying, even if it was off campus.

The teacher was super annoying, but it seems like they’re looking into her more than they did in the book, which is an improvement.

Oh and so many people ask the characters ‘Are you okay?’ And all I want is for one of them to just say, ‘…. No.’

So, those are most of my thoughts on the first three episodes of this show. All in all, I really enjoyed it, and I can’t wait for more! Feel free to debate me/add your own thoughts if you’d like, just be respectful. :)

todays my birthday 🥰 how do you think each oou character likes to celebrate their birthday? most memorable one?

happy birthday lovely!!! hope you had the best day 🥳🥳

cooper: he was never super fussed on birthdays, until his 18th when it was the first time that his parents didn’t make him a cake. it was after everything and their relationship was still on the rocks and nonny was too frail to do it, and cooper pretended so hard that he didn’t care, but he really, really did. without even knowing what had happened, addy baked him a cake the night before and brought it to school and they all split it in the cafeteria. kris took him out for dinner with nonny and lucas. it’s his favourite birthday because it reminded him how truly loved he really was, even if his parents weren’t always up to the task.

nate: i don’t think nate likes celebrating his birthday usually. after all, a lot of them went completely unnoticed. it’s why addy throws joint parties for them, because nate would never celebrate otherwise. but i think his favourite one would probably be very early on, before everything went to shit in his home life. his mom took him out for waffles and they went to the zoo. it was completely unassuming and normal, and it’s one of his favourite memories.

bronwyn: yep definitely celebrates but doesn’t go all out because she’s too practical to make a scene like that. she usually enjoys a quiet night in with her favourite food and people. her most memorable birthday was the one where nate rocked up at her door despite her being in new haven and they spent the whole night in her dorm binging new shows and trying the different take outs nearby.

addy: addy LOVES to celebrate her birthday. she has a birthday week, where she and all her friends pamper themselves all week (ashton & her get their nails done, keely and her get facials etc.) and she always throws a big party and ALWAYS (and this is key) wears a crown to her party to remind everyone that she’s an icon, she’s a legend, and she IS the moment. her most memorable birthday was her first joint one with nate because it was her first one out from under her mother & everyone got so wasted that the night played out like it belonged in a movie scene. her favourite part was stumbling out to breakfast the next morning with the b4 (& additions) in their clothes from the previous night

maeve: eh. like nate she doesn’t really celebrate that much. her birthday makes her kinda sad because she just thinks of all the ones she spent in the hospital. her most memorable birthday was courtesy of luis, who, upon realising that she had missed all her childhood birthdays, threw a party that was JUST like all those classic childhood ones (games, prizes, even took her to build a bear) it’s the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for her.

luis: growing up in a big family, luis’s birthdays were never flashy but they were ALWAYS treated like the most important thing. he got to pick what they had for dinner that night & what movie they watched which was like super honours, plus manny had to be nice to him the whole day. i don’t think he has one birthday that’s more memorable than the others? he definitely thinks of his whole childhood as like a golden glow.

kris: prefers celebrating other peoples to celebrating his own, but because of that, everyone goes extra hard when it’s his birthday since he was so amazing on theirs. his most memorable birthday is his first one with cooper, who took him ice skating as it’s something he used to love to do in Germany. (cooper sucked, this also added to how much kris enjoyed the day)

Cooper Clay Headcanons

Loves dogs, specifically golden retrievers 

Kris  grows out his hair when they live together, and Cooper loves it and loves playing with it. He also has Addy teach him how to braid and so he just starts braiding Kris’s hair randomly 

People don’t really notice it, but he’s very crafty

Makes bracelets and rings and necklaces and he’s made so many for Nonny and Kris (along with Addy and Bronwyn of course)

Gets his ears pierced as a dare but ends up loving having his ears pierced 

Also knits and crochets

Can tumble very well and will randomly just do cartwheels and handsprings and stuff but before the events of oouil he would never have thought about tumbling in front of people besides like luis 

Has thought of doing competitive cheer, but loves baseball so much that he never tried, and also Pop would not like that as Cooper always seeks his validation

He can bake very well but can’t cook to save his life and confuses everyone with how he can't do that 

He dated Keely to convince himself that he was at least bi and could still end up marrying a girl to make Pop happy 

Obviously that didn’t work 

Keely was the one to ask him out, as he is OBLIVIOUS to anyone flirting with him or like if they like him 

Loves dancing with kris 

Loves kids and when he figured out “oh I’m gay” he was upset because he wanted kids 

When he was older he was like oh there’s other ways to have kids and when he’s older he ends up having a lot of kids

A lot of kids/teens/sometimes even grown adults message him on social media about how he helped them to come out and for some they say you helped me realize that it's ok for my kid to not be cishet or something along those lines 

Wants to travel, but when he was a teen and kid he didn’t have the chance to travel much, but when he’s older and with Kris they travel all over europe together 

Pretends to hate rom-coms but loves them

He and Lucas always have a close relationship 

Lucas tells him everything and Cooper is so overprotective of him 

Once he gets more educated on the lgbtq+ community, more specifically gender, he’s like hmmmm, but is like no  not now I’ll think about this later

When he’s like late 20s he realizes oh I am not cisgender (he/they)(and no this is not projection where i headcanon all my favorite characters using multiple pronouns but also I can see it with cooper)

So, this website has posted a little bit more about some more of the cast members, and I have some questions.

We knew that Martin, Zenia, and Sara were playing Evan, Keely, and Vanessa, respectively. We also knew that TJ got recast and figured that it was George, but I’m a little confused?

First off, we’re still missing Luis, which is very unfortunate. He delivered one of my favorite lines out of the whole book, so not seeing Luis be casted is disappointing, at least for me.

Second, since when were TJ and Vanessa dating? As far as I recall, they never dated, so is the show really taking the route of TJ and Vanessa dating? I don’t know how I feel about that. Having TJ with someone like Vanessa is icky to me, but I’m a TJ Forrester apologist that doesn’t really surprise me when I say that.

We also got Kris and Lucas (Cooper’s brother) confirmed, which is cool. I was wondering who they were going to cast for that.

But, I do feel like this website is a little off maybe? Evan was never Bronwyn’s boyfriend, not until the epilogue. Did Kris actually have ties to Nate? Because I don’t recall that. (Update: I literally had to read the first line to see that this is coming from Peacock, so I’m assuming all of this is true, lmao.)

All in all, this left me more confused than anything, and I really have to reread this book before the show comes out, lmao.
