Tomorrow I'm taking my first flight without family and I'm a huge mix of terrified and excited. Terrified cause I have a huge phobia of flying (Xanax ftw) but also excited cause if I can handle this then it means I'm ready for flight travel on my own which opens up b travel possibilities for me.

I...am not ashamed to admit this has been me at points. Usually there is wine involved while grading.

i feel bad for teachers because i distinctly remember my mom bursting into tears once when she was grading papers and she was just mumbling “theyre so goddamn stupid” over and over

Current Status of Teacher Conference in Texas

Learned a shit ton just in the first day (all applicable to my history classes, yay!!), ate all the good BBQ and In N' Out, drank good local beer, sat in fellow teacher's room with other colleagues (plus more beer) and drunkenly gossiped and got classroom management advice, now drinking wine and watching SDCC Talks Machina panel at 1:30am. I have to be up by 7am tomorrow - with 3 more days of training before flying home.

Taking this PD trip has been the best decision I have made in a very long time. And I'm not saying that lightly.

I've learned so much from the training - even though my courses were ELA focused they have included so many things that I can transfer to both History and to Art. It's the first PD training in years that I've felt like was useful and applicable to my classroom.

I've gotten closer to several of my colleagues - some I've known for years and others only recently. All the awkwardness and lack of fitting in I felt during this year has been replaced with the feeling that I have friends at work and people I can be myself with and can trust to watch my back. Comfortable enough we can give each other shit and hang out in our PJs drinking beer and cheap wine in our hotel rooms while we gossip about the weird things in our lives.

I have a long time colleague, that I can now confidently call a close friend, take the time to help me work on the thing I struggle with most - classroom management - and I felt comfortable with him even when he was calling me out on the stupid decisions I made this year management-wise. His wife just got hired at our school too and has also offered to help me with this and I am stoked to work with both of them this year.

I got to see and reconnect with an old family friend who had moved down to Dallas and hanging out with her felt like nothing had changed between us in the 15+ years since I had seen her in person last. It was amazing.

I found out I am able to travel via plane without family - which for me had been a big limiting factor before cause of massive flight anxiety - and now I feel like I have the confidence to actual lead the DC trip next spring and to travel to other places.

I'm so fucking happy and content with my life for the first time in a long time, and it's because I took and risk and said "Yes, I'll attend this training in another state!"

Rewatching the SP movie for for millionth time

If I came into my classroom and students were swearing like in the movie...I would be laughing my fucking ass off.

Tomorrow I got student meet and greet and then meetings and then dinner reservations and then TRIWIZARD DRINKING TOURNAMENT which I am running Slytherin Runespoors as Head Girl and herding drunk people and-

THEN I have education panels and my shifts in Console Tourney and standing in line to playtest DMC5 and buying stuff from artists and then drinking at parties...then RIGHT after PAX I have meetings and school starting (if we don’t strike) ohgodi’mgonnadiiiieeeeeeee

I’m experiencing this while trying to find a place to live since I am moving for work. Everything is stupid expensive and then I keep getting people telling me to just buy a house - like how the fuck can I save for a down payment on a fucking house when I am paying $1600 a month in rent on a teacher’s salary??
